2023.03.31 04:30 windrunningmistborn When you encounter enemies, you're going the right way - the simplest explanation for changing the report of DRS numbers is that we've found enemies. 'They' want us to think we're defeated.
The Simplest Narrative Occam's Razor tells us that the explanation requiring the fewest assumptions is the most likely. The simplest explanation for the change in wording is that 'they' want us to stop DRS'ing.
Let's establish the simplest narrative:
- This Q4 filing, 'they' intended us to discover that only 5 million more shares had been DRS'd than the quarter before.
- The previous Q3 filing, 'they' intended us to discover that only 500k more shares had been DRS'd than the quarter before.
In addition:
- In June 2022, articles started appeared claiming that retail investors were "fatigued"
- A prominent ginger-bollocked stonker started to establish a fizzling-out narrative of DRS as far back as March last year.
'They' want us to think that DRS'ing is not working, that it is fizzling out, that we are fatigued.
They want us to think that we've failed.
We know that isn't the case because we have DRS-bot. It's been reliably keeping track. The DRS-bot's model had been modified to account for the excess of shares in Q2, but when that modification was removed the numbers made sense again. The rug-pull
validated the DRS-bot's data tracking. We are DRS'ing about 12m shares a quarter, undeniably.
The Board has Our Backs The origins of this movement go back to DFV, who championed GameStop's fundamentals. We, in turn, have stuck around through endless FUD to witness the turnaround, notably the launch of the NFT marketplace, the return to positive cashflow, and most recently the return to profitability. We've stuck around not for a short squeeze but because we
believe in what GameStop is doing. We've put our money where our mouth is and we like the stock. This has not gone unrecognized:
- Matt Furlong emphasises in the earnings calls that they are aligned with us. They want us to know that whatever we're up against, we're in it together.
- The changed wording in the Q4 filing drew attention to it being a different statistic. It's not DRS shares this quarter, it's instead shares outside the DTCC.
The next two points require a little bit of tinfoil but it fits too well to be coincidence.
- Before the Q3 filing, RC became The Book King, drawing attention to the book/plan discrepancy and, Lo and Behold, the Q4 filing has the book/plan discrepancy figuring in the reported numbers. This statistic doesn't include Plan shares, which are held in the DTCC.
- The buckled in collection created by Gamestop includes two arbitrary numbers. Last quarter, it was 71.10 and this quarter it's 83.09 - a difference of 12. Just like the 12m shares a quarter we know we are DRS'ing. Coincidence?
The board has our backs. But someone is trying to get in their way.
Who are 'they' and why are they doing this? If you're willing to buy into The Book King tinfoil, then the following timing is important:
In that short window of time, Superstonk saw right through the bullshit. We were meant to be demoralised and feel defeated, like DRS was a done thing. But instead we were bolstered. They were willing to fuck with us, to fuck with our perceptions, and to attack the DRS movement directly. The rug pull had the opposite effect than was intended.
There were lots of reasons for us to see through the rug pull. First, DRS-bot has our backs just like the board does and the rug-pull validated the DRS-bot.
But there was something else. Around the same time as the Q3 filing, we had the Ortex borrowed-shares fiasco. If you need reminding, a fuckload of borrowed shares appeared on Ortex. The number jumped by a 13m-ish chunk then increased by about a similar size chunk repeatedly over the course of a day. Those shares looked like the rug pull shares being put back into circulation.
Anyhoo. The important thing here is the timing of the above. We were meant to be shaken, but instead our resolve became hardened. They tried to fuck with us and they failed. Now we were unshakeable.
Shortly after, RC draws attention to book/plan. Why? Well, let's assume that the bad actors could see that they'd failed, that apes were not shaken. And they made a fuss. Consequently, during this window, the GameStop board was approached and told that next quarter, they would not be allowed to include shares still in the DTCC as being part of the DRS numbers -- to again diminish the number reported and make it seem like the DRS movement is dying. And, seemingly, GameStop cannot refuse.
Instead of just giving in and doing as they're told, the board elected to adjust the phrasing of the reporting to emphasise the difference between the numbers this quarter and the earlier numbers.
So who are they? Who has the power to make demands of what GameStop reports? There's a couple of candidates.
The first is the DTCC. They might have complained to the SEC that GameStop were misrepresenting how many shares were outside the DTCC by including plan shares in their DRS numbers. The DTCC manages those shares for GameStop, and here GameStop are claiming their transfer agent is now in care of them? How rude! It seems important to note that it took some effort on superstonk to establish that plan shares were still held in the DTCC -- and there was significant pushback. The status of these limbo plan shares has been a point of contention for some time.
Another possibility is the SEC itself. Us many apes with our smooth brains have read the DD (and understood a word or two), and it's easy to think this is a rigged game and the act of buying and holding shares is ripping the system apart. Those bad actors throughout the financial ecosystem have become accustomed to their infinite money glitch and, as a result, the numbers don't make sense any more. Our simple act of
liking the stock is putting the system to the test, because SHFs should be forced to close the creatively-hidden shorts but this would bankrupt the system. The SEC is the protector of the system, and if DRS breaks the system (lol) then one could argue they have a duty to protect the system.
The third obvious possibility is the financial behemoths with the power to compel the SEC. The Citadels, The Virtus, the people who stand to lose everything once their house of cards collapse, and (through regulatory capture or sheer force of importance) can compel the SEC to act on their behalf. This is tinfoil level stuff, but I think there's some support for it. Notably, Citadel has never been fined under Gary Gensler, despite repeated enforcement before his placement as Chairperson. Also, did anyone listen to the interviews between D Lauer and G Gensler? Gensler pretends to not know what DRS is!
In the latest interview, when pushed to answer whether it was ok for companies to report DRS numbers or not, Gensler avoided the question as best he could, and drew attention to there being a few companies who are reporting these numbers. He didn't say it wasn't ok, but he did his best avoid saying it was ok. Whether the SEC, and G Gensler himself, are victims of regulatory capture is anyone's guess...
What if there is no bad guy? The narrative above is simple, and makes sense. I should point out there is a narrative that makes sense that doesn't include any bad guys. If GameStop cares about having their shares removed from the DTCC, but is not allowed to say so, then this is a subtle maneuvre on their part. They have indirectly said, we like the DRS number -- after all, we've included it in our reports for a year now. But this is the number we truly value: shares outside the DTCC. Please, get this number up.
What does all this mean? tl;drs: DRS is working. Having your shares outside the DTCC has upset someone and they are doing there best to make us think that DRS isn't working. Don't let them shake you.
There might not be a bad guy, but if there is then GameStop wants their shares outside the DTCC but is not allowed to say so.
The DRS-bot says 12m shares are leaving the DTCC every quarter, and there is every reason to believe that our march towards owning GameStop continues.
BUY, HODL, DRS -- and BOOK!

2023.03.31 03:58 New_Gaming_Chair Just got back into collecting. This $70 pickup made it easy.
2023.03.31 03:53 Crazycukumbers I am very lost, and I have reached a breaking point.
I am 23. I live on my own in a decent apartment, no roommates or anything like that. Rent is expensive, as I live in a very expensive area, but my job pays pretty decently. Have absolutely no savings though.
But here's the thing: I don't feel happy. Or satisfied. Or content. Nothing like that at all. All I feel is stress and pressure and emptiness, and I have reached my limit.
To start with, nothing feels like it has a purpose anymore. I go to work, spend "only" 1/3 of my day there (not including my lunch break, not including commute, not including getting ready for work) and when I get home, I'm out of energy. I am useless for the rest of the day. I would consider myself a creative person. I like to make things. I like to write and/or make games in my spare time, but I have no energy for it now. And even when I do, it feels empty. Hollow. I feel nothing from it, except that I'm wasting my time.
And that's how I feel in general - like I'm wasting my time. I come home from work, and I don't feel like I've earned a restful evening, I feel like I traded my life and soul away for more numbers on a piece of paper at the end of a biweekly period. I don't feel like I've done anything valuable. If I spend my weekend working on a game, or a story, or with my friends, or with my family, or cleaning, or playing video games, or cooking, or vegging out and watching YouTube all day, I feel like it was all a waste of my time. I feel this constant stress, this pressure, to be doing something more productive, but no matter how I spend my time (yes, even exercising) I don't feel like I've done anything but throw my time into a garbage can.
And I am so tired of this feeling. I feel so disconnected from everything. Why is the only value in a job to put more numbers on a screen? Why can't I do something I enjoy and make a living off of it?
"Go to college" or "find a different job" or "learn to code" or "learn a trade" are the least helpful pieces of advice I've received more than almost anything else. I don't have money or time for college. I already dropped out years ago and I haven't even begun paying back what I owe on the time I wasted there. I've been looking for a different job for over a year, and the reason I haven't even really applied for any is because I just don't see the point. It's just going to be trading my valuable time for arbitrary numbers on a screen no matter where I go, so what's the point in finding something different? I'll be miserable at just about any job I go to, because at the end of the day, I'm going to come home and feel like a worthless sack of garbage waiting for my turn to die and hoping it's sooner than I think. I've tried learning to code, and you might think that, because I enjoy making games, I'd have some sort of affinity for it... you'd be wrong. I have buckled down and committed to a number of languages for a range of times, from a couple of weeks to a month each, from Python to C# to JavaScript, and I just can't wrap my head around any of it. It doesn't make any amount of sense to me. I understand the basics, but I have no idea how to make sense of every tiny quirk, how to memorize every function and every term and all of that. The only reason I can make any games (and they are all terrible and horribly basic) is because I am using a game engine that I learned to use when I was pretty young, and it has a proprietary language so my knowledge of it is entirely useless. Trades are just more jobs that will still make me feel worthless.
I've been told my whole life, from teachers to friends to strangers on the internet, that I have an affinity for writing. And I love writing, I really do. But the problem is that writing is a very saturated market. It's hard to get any foothold anywhere because everyone is also good at writing and there's no way to make yours stand out. Because of this, I stopped doing it regularly and now I'm out of practice. I've been trying to get back into it, but I struggle to find a point in it either. I'm not going to bother sharing it with anyone, because why would I? If I post it on any website, it's not going to be seen under the tide of thousands upon thousands of other pieces of writing. I'm not in school anymore so no teachers will find it, the only friends I have now will just say "it's good" because that's what they say about everything, and my family is extremely biased so they're not going to give very helpful feedback either. Especially with AI bots learning to write prose now, there's truly no point when we've got robots that can write every story never told. I have nothing to say that hasn't been or won't be said anymore. So I get excited about a new idea I have, I work furiously on it for a day or weekend or 3 hours, and then I look at what I've got, and realized that I just wasted my time.
I feel so trapped. I feel like I have nowhere to go. I had never had a mental breakdown until this past year. I've been depressed for a long time, but I never felt suicidal until this past year as well. I don't have any romantic interests because I never talk to anyone, and I don't really want a relationship or kids or anything like that anyways, because every relationship I've ever had ended up with me being emotionally and verbally abused, and in the most recent one I was even cheated on. I have nothing to look forward to anymore. I don't know why I get up in the mornings anymore. I don't know how much longer I can keep going, but each day, another year sounds like a more and more impossible amount of time to keep this up for. I feel like I'm on the verge of completely snapping. Like my brain is just going to crack and end up in a psych ward somewhere, with no knowledge of how I got there.
No, I can't afford therapy. Last I did that, I ended up in credit card debt and that has only made my life harder. It's nothing more than another waste of my time as well as money.
