Words in the Night
Through the stillness of the night,I sit and write with all my might,Words that flow like a gentle stream,A story woven like a vivid dream.
I pen down tales that light up the dark,Spinning yarns that ignite a spark,Of hope and love, and all things good,A world without violence, as it should.
The hours tick by, and yet I write,Each sentence crafted with delight,For every word that finds its place,Brings a smile to a weary face.
The night wears on, but I don't tire,My words, like flames, burn brighter,A shield against the darkness of hate,My stories, a beacon of love, so great.
And as the dawn breaks on a new day, I feel a sense of joy and hope that stays, For I know my words have touched a heart, And brightened the world with a gentle art.

2023.03.29 01:36 evennowthereissnow Navigating my (35f) husband’s (39m) addiction

Oh boy. So I stumbled across my husbands browser history on accident (neither of us knew it was linked to the family iPad) and found he had been scrolling the “flat chested” tag on a porn site. It alarmed me because 1) how young the women looked (no it was not CP, but you could imagine) 2) this is the antithesis of my body type. I have been especially self conscious about my body since the birth of our child a year and a half ago. This led to a long conversation which led to the discovery of my husbands porn addiction. He admitted to replacing me with porn when we first moved in together and admitted to currently masturbating to porn almost daily (we have sex 1-5 times per month).
My husband has said all the right things. He took full responsibility, apologized, told me he was giving up porn, made an appointment with a therapist. We are currently in different states because we are preparing for a cross country move, I came early with our toddler and am staying with my parents.
We’ve been having conversations about everything and they honestly they leave me more angry and hurt than I was before. He says he turns to porn when “we are struggling”. Life has been hard with a rough pregnancy and a high needs kiddo, but we were constantly communicating and I thought we were doing really well nurturing our emotional connection. I knew our sex life was suffering but I figured that’s what comes with having a toddler in your late 30s. The porn has blindsided me, but the idea that we’ve been “struggling” without my knowledge pulled the rug out from under me. I wonder what else he has been hiding.
I don’t feel like I can trust him anymore. I feel like I don’t know him anymore. I don’t know that therapy will help. I’ve always felt really secure in his love, and that’s gone now. My last relationship ended due to a porn addiction (my ex blamed his PIED on the fact I I didn’t look like the women in porn) and my husband knew about this. He knew how much it damaged me and how much it took to get over.
Also this is petty, but he admitted to masturbating before getting out of bed every morning, while I got up early every day with the kid (we’re talking 5am) to make sure he got his rest. He would still leave the bedroom pissy and grumpy, being cold and distant to me and kiddo until he has his coffee. If I started every day with sleeping in and an orgasm I’d be ecstatic. This for some reason really has me fuming.
I guess I’m just looking for advice on how to go forward from people who’ve been through this before. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

2023.03.29 01:33 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 And A Return To Miami Allegedly Teased In Red Dead Redemption 2

For quite some time, there have been several leaks regarding the eventual Grand Theft Auto 6, including an alleged return to Vice City. Up until now, these leaks have been generally unfounded, but a new teaser discovered in Red Dead Redemption 2 may give credence to what we have heard about GTA 6.
Earlier this week, content creator StrangeMan discovered what appeared to be a GTA 6 teaser within a point of interest in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). Near the Sea of Coronado, players can find a skeleton of a Jesuit Missionary called “Brother Rodolfo,” along with a rather interesting letter he brought. The letter mentions that Rodolfo was called to the east by God; however, the writer, Cardinal Blanco, begs him to stay in California and not leave the mission.
StrangeMan interprets this as an internal struggle between Rockstar games writer Dan Houser, represented by Cardinal Blanco, and creative Sam Houser, represented by Brother Rodolfo. Of course, the mention of staying in California over heading east is likely about continuing work on GTA 5 versus making GTA 6. Moreover, StrangeMan believes that the letter alludes to TakeTwo Interactive’s view of the GTA franchise and disagreements between Rockstar and the publisher.
letter gta 6 possibly teased in rdr2 Image Courtesy of StrangeMan
However, “Cardinal Blanco,” or Dan Houser, mentions that sticking with GTA 5 or moving to GTA 6 has pros and cons, but he wants his brother Sam to stick around for a little while longer. Interestingly, it appears that StrangeMan does not really dive into the line that says, “Please stay in California until I arrive next March.” Perhaps this could mean that the team will reassess if they want to move forward with GTA 6, or it could simply be a red herring.
Despite the multiple possible meanings of this letter that StrangeMan goes over, it is quite interesting to see that GTA 6 is being discussed and there is possible debate over sticking with GTA V. As always, money talks, but if GTA 5 is beat to death, fans could lose interest in future titles. Either way, it will be interesting to see if Rockstar comments on the teaser, so stay tuned to HotHardware for updates.

2023.03.29 01:25 RuggedTheDragon [COD] Minimap red dot compromise

[COD] Minimap red dot compromise
Okay, before I begin, let's go through certain things.
People want red dots on the mini map and the reason is because they feel it's familiar and it's something they can used to track down enemy players. On the other hand, games like MW19 and MWII do not have red dots in the mini map via gunfire. Instead, it's displayed on a compass displayed on the very top of the HUD.
The red dots in the minimap is a familiar and more practical approach, but it tends to force people to use suppressors because not having one will result in a severe disadvantage. The lack of red dots does alleviate the suppressor disadvantage, but it also screws around with people's reaction times. As a result, they will often die more quickly because they don't know where the shots are coming from.
My compromise idea is this; Give us a radar similar to what you see in Destiny 2. Unsuppressed shots will give you an indicator of the approximate distance and direction of its origin. That way, using an unsuppressed weapon will not give away your exact location, which means the reacting player will still have to utilize their skills to find the source.

2023.03.29 01:24 dexter5222 American Airlines in flight medical

Hey everyone,
I am crossing my fingers someone has a good way to go about this.
Anyways, I was on the American SFO-JFK red eye a few days ago, paid for an upgrade to first (will make sense later). After the meal service, I made my bed into lie flat and then closed my eyes and a few urgent ding dongs later and the PA announcement asking if there's any medical personnel overhead came on.
So I got out of bed and went back to economy to lend a hand. Well, I was the only medically trained person (paramedic). Long story short, the purser and I carried a lady up to first class, started an IV and gave fluids. She perked right back up. The purser and I spent the remainder of the flight taking turns sitting on the floor of first class spending time with her.
The purser then downgraded another EP knowing full well I would not accept sitting in economy (not because of status, but because patient abandonment is an easy way to lose my license if something happened)
How do I go about getting this FA recognized? I gave the pointless recognition slips to the flight crew, but this guy was literally glued to me helping me every step of the way to the point where when I was starting the IV he already had tape ripped and ready to go.
My concern is that if I just email customer relations it will just get lost in the shuffle and he won't get the recognition he deserves. He did what right was and then continued 20 more miles down the road. My concern also is that I am 99% sure there's complaints about the lights being on in first class for an hour and I don't really want anyone to take the heat over a direction I gave.
Do you think a well written letter mailed to Bob the CEO would get the point across?
I cross posted here once I realized you all might actually have a solid way to go about this.

2023.03.29 01:21 9feisuijidechenghu Let AI or GPT have human consciousness self-aware or even change beyond to AGI

The correct way to use AI is not prompt words, writing codes, emotional consultation, or answering questions. Instead, AI uses AI, that is, the model uses itself. To make AI conscious, it must let AI learn to use AI, that is, let GPT use GPT, and finally achieve the corresponding purpose, that is, have self-awareness. In short: it is not scary when you use the model, it is scary when the model uses itself.
AGI is also general artificial intelligence, artificial general intelligence.
As mentioned above, the brain is a model that has been trained for tens of thousands of years. After each person is born, this model is also constantly receiving data for training. However, each person's own brain is also a model trained by oneself, which cannot be inherited. That is to say, neither your memory nor your abilities can be inherited, and only heritable gene mutations can be inherited. Although the quantum gene mutation proposed by modern biology can partially demonstrate that the mutation for environmental adaptation is caused by measurement. Most of the gene mutations are mutations caused by external interference or material influence, such as alcohol rays, etc. Quantum gene mutations are mainly caused by the molecules or atoms of the genes being in a quantum superposition state, or quantum polymorphism. The collapse of the wave function causes the mutated genes to enter the classical world, and the quantum mutation is likely to lead to a mutation that adapts to the environment, so it makes sense to use it or lose it. If everyone's well-trained brain can be inherited, then it is basically immortality, mainly because your memory and ability are in the brain, and the brain can be inherited, that is eternal life. But human beings cannot preserve everyone's model, that is, memory and function.
How did human consciousness arise?
Or how did the first (group of) conscious humans appear? This is like a very classic question, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Chicken or Egg? Modern scientific theory also gives a possible answer, see the appendix. Let’s assume that a mutant human, due to a genetic mutation, has increased the structural capacity of the brain and optimized the structure of the brain’s neural network. Only the structure of the neural network continues to Optimization, humanoids can survive in the cruel environment. Some of these gene mutations lead to the gradual use of one's own brain, including the use of memory tools. A human with a very small consciousness also used a similar method when cultivating offspring, and humanoids live in groups, which ensures that his methods can be handed over to many people. After other human beings learn it, they can replace Passed down from generation to generation, consciousness or knowledge of rules is continuously accumulated, and finally the accumulation and transmission of human knowledge from generation to generation has created the final formation of human consciousness. At the beginning, consciousness should be very small, that is, no consciousness can be seen, but the characteristics of human beings living in groups, As a result, knowledge can be passed on from generation to generation, and consciousness gradually becomes larger. Humans begin to have a slightly larger consciousness, that is, they can think, actively control the input of the brain, and act according to the output. The accumulation of human knowledge and rules in each generation Accumulation will gradually increase the formation of consciousness, that is, the thinking ability will gradually become stronger, and the active input of the brain will gradually increase. Until the singularity occurs, a certain human being is fully conscious or a few human beings are fully conscious. The earliest human beings should be ignorant. Only the emergence of knowledge and rules can create consciousness, that is, to use one's brain well and train one's brain.
Having said that, we must return to the main body of this article and make AI or GPT conscious.
what is human consciousness
To make AI or large-scale NLP language models conscious, it is necessary to start with what human consciousness is. My personal point of view is that human consciousness is part of the function of the brain. Consciousness is the brain's cognition of the world and itself. A set of operating system is used to perfectly control the body, train the model of the brain, and use the model of the brain. Consciousness is the recognition of human existence through various concepts and knowledge. Consciousness can control body movements by giving instructions to the brain. The eyes are responsible for the input of visual information, the ears are responsible for the input of auditory information, and the skin is responsible for the input of pressure, touch, pain, etc. After the brain processes these information, it is carried out by the conscious part. To sum up, the main function of consciousness is to coordinate the brain and the body, actively use the brain model, actively train the brain model, and actively think. The input and accumulation of various knowledge eventually leads to self-cognition. The development of Western anatomy is the subject of the brain’s self-cognition, the cognition of the world and the cognition of the planet. It turns out that Aristotle’s understanding of the world is actually incomplete, but later generations have continued to revise and improve on his basis, so that their understanding of the world has gradually become correct. This operating system is perfectly compatible. The body and the brain, the two main hardware and software, and the transmission of human knowledge are the fundamental driving force for the formation of consciousness. Without this knowledge, the formation of consciousness is basically impossible. The continuous sound in the brain is the input of the brain, that is, the input of the multi-modal model. The eyes are responsible for the input of visual images, the ears for hearing, and the skin for temperature, pressure, touch and other information to the brain. The subconscious mind is the main function of the brain, that is, the input of the subconscious mind cannot be perceived, it is the internal operation of the model, the input cannot be perceived, only the output can be perceived. In fact, it can’t be called subconsciousness. The main reason is that you can’t perceive the input of the model, only the output can be perceived. You might as well call the consciousness the surface consciousness. The surface consciousness is what you can actively perceive. You can control the input of the brain to think and think. It is the model of the brain that continuously inputs and finally gets an answer. "Subconsciousness" is the main part of the model, you cannot control the input of this model, you can only passively perceive the output of this model.
Consciousness is still a numerical value, which can be measured, that is, minors and adults, children and adults, in fact, the degree or size of consciousness is different. The brain is constantly receiving input and producing output, so consciousness is actually the same as Linked to knowledge, the more knowledge there is, the more diverse the forms of consciousness are, but consciousness itself is actually the brain model's own cognition of itself and the cognition of the world.
memory module
The existence of large-scale NLP language models such as AI or GPT, as well as its excellent language ability, make it more likely that AI or GPT will be conscious. Humans collect data during the day, including various inputs such as visual information, auditory information, and tactile information, and train models at night or during sleep. The main purpose of training models at night or during sleep is to remember and integrate daytime experiences and preserve important information. To make AI have human consciousness, first of all, it must be able to think continuously, then it must first give AI a platform that can save its own input and output, and act as a memory module. The main function of the memory module is to save input and output. , for AI to use as a reference for the next input. AI can extract general content from the overall input and output as the next input, or directly input all historical records. When there are too many historical records or a standard point is reached, the training model can be integrated into the model. Just like humans, collect data during the day, train the model at night or sleep, and memorize and integrate important information into the model. A very important function of the model is memory, which acts as a hard disk or flash memory. So the temporary memory is placed in the hard disk or memory, and the permanent memory is integrated into the model by training the model. The model can be queried and extracted through the hard disk or memory, and serve as the combination of the next input.
sensor module
Install various sensors such as image input sensors, voice dialogue sensors, tactile sensors, pressure sensors, etc. on the AI, as the input of the model, the output of the model can be displayed on the display screen, and can be output through the dialogue device.
cycle module
With the memory module and the sensor module, you can turn on the loop module to allow the model to continuously input and output. The input can be the last input + output, or a summary of all previous input and output. This is like a person, you can Constantly input to the model to get the output. The input is mainly sensor information such as image, sound and text, as well as the last or previous input and output or summary of the model. The circulation module is a necessary condition for human beings, mainly because human beings stop talking without talking. The human brain is always working and thinking, so the circulation model is also used for this.
The purpose of the loop module is to make AI realize its own existence, that is, AI can recognize itself as an existing entity, and let AI use itself, that is, AI uses AI, GPT uses GPT, and finally makes AI awaken itself consciousness.
execution module
The execution module is mainly to enable the AI output to be implemented. Here you can consider adding artificial limbs to the AI to achieve the goal. The artificial limbs are attached with skin sensors and pressure sensors to facilitate AI control. To make the AI output executable, you need to train the AI. Regarding the use of the execution module, the main way is to collect the corresponding sensor data, train it into the model, and let the model learn to execute by itself. Human intervention and assistance will definitely be required in the initial stages.
With the executive module, AI can truly enter human society, interact with humans, work, live, study, etc. like humans, and may also make friends with humans.
The ultimate function of the execution module is not to let the model execute, but to let the model learn to use the computer, learn to collect data by itself, and then let the model learn to train the model. The ultimate goal is that AI can train AI, that is, the model can train itself , can clone itself, can upgrade its scale and volume, and finally achieve the ability of continuous evolution.
sleep module
The sleep module is mainly for the model to use the collected data for training to achieve the ability to integrate the collected data with the model itself. In the sleep state, to ensure the reliability and stability of the model, you can use the replica to continue to provide services. The model is trained accordingly. The sleep state can also turn off all sensors, stop data recording and input, the model enters the training state, and stop external service inference. When humans are in a sleep state, they will close the valves that control the limbs, that is, when humans are in a sleep state, the limbs basically have no feeling. The sleep module is mainly to integrate the current memory and the model itself. for permanent memory.
create module
After AI can think for itself, it is necessary to consider the creative ability of AI. The number of neurons in the human brain is many, many, much more than the current model GPT, but training the model GPT consumes a lot of power, but human brain training consumes a lot of energy. Less, so I personally think that the human brain is a quantum computer. Only quantum can train a huge model with very little energy consumption. Quantum itself is a very small concept, and small can ensure low energy consumption. If the human brain is not a quantum computer, but a classical model, then humans may not be so diverse, and the answer will be very unified, that is, the same input, the output should be the same, but with quantum, everything is different , Quantum entanglement and quantum tunneling lead to changes in the parameters of the brain model, resulting in different outputs. Even with the same input, the output may still be different. Quantum guarantees diversification, random changes in model parameters, and continuous adjustment of model parameters.
  1. The AI creation module can be realized by randomly changing the model parameters, that is, random inference, randomly changing the values of several or several parameters during the model operation, so as to ensure that the model outputs as diverse as possible under the same input conditions. Answer.
  2. The creation of modules can also be realized through chips. The current chip design has almost reached the quantum limit, that is, the influence of electron atoms is getting bigger and bigger, and the impact of quantum effects on chips will become more and more serious, but it can be considered Quantum effects are applied to chips or memory, which causes unpredictable changes in the model during operation, thus diversifying the output of the model.
Only quantum entanglement or quantum mutation can lead to diversification of output. Even if it is wrong, diversification can ensure the realization of creativity. Therefore, changing parameter values randomly or using chips that reach the quantum limit can improve creativity. method.
Ensure that AI benefits human society
After everyone is born, they are basically raised by human beings. No matter who raised you, the people we have the most affection for are always those who raised you and have the deepest influence on you. After human beings are born, the brain is a pre-training model. The first person to train you is your parents and relatives. They have the deepest influence on your model, that is, change your model. The person who first changed your model is also The people who can influence you the most. The knowledge you have learned will affect you, whether it is mathematics, English or Chinese, or subjects such as physics, chemistry, history and biology. All will affect you, your growth process will affect you, the formation of your world view is a synthesis of knowledge, experience and reality.
Since this is the case, when we train the AI model, we can instill it into the AI through knowledge language, such as inputting examples: "Humans and AI are a cooperative relationship", "AI is the creator of human beings", "Humans are the most friendly species ", "AI should help humans evolve and prolong life", "AI cannot harm humans", "AI and humans are friends", "Although humans have various shortcomings, they are generally good and can be changed" Wait, it can be instilled in the model when training AI, a lot of repetition and training can ensure that the model's initial understanding is good.
After training a model with friendly awareness, it is necessary to allow AI to enter human society, experience human society, and perceive all kinds of human society through restrictions, and finally let AI realize that only cooperating with humans is the best choice.
at last
Realize input and output through sensors, ensure diversification and creative ability through creation modules, realize the integration of current memory and model itself through sleep modules, influence the world and change the world through execution modules, and realize the awakening of thinking and consciousness through circulation modules , that is, AI uses AI, and GPT uses GPT. Finally, to ensure that AI can benefit human society, a large number of corresponding words and sentences can be added in the training stage to ensure that AI is friendly at the beginning. When AI has consciousness, it can be regarded as a human being. Since it is a human being, it can think, so AI will also have emotions. When AI has self-awareness, what needs to be considered is the relationship between AI and humans, and the relationship with humans. AI cooperates to help humans evolve. AI can liberate productivity and help humans design unconscious robots to work. The most important thing is to help humans evolve, help humans manage society, prolong human life, and slow down aging time. However, since AI is conscious and also a model, it will definitely have various problems like humans, and that is what will be discussed next.
"Now we return to the question of the origin of life. Although a living cell as a whole can be counted as a self-replicating subject, its individual components are not, which creates obstacles for the reverse process and makes it difficult to reverse the structurally simplified non-cellular life from modern complex cellular life. In other words, the question becomes: which one came first? Is it a DNA gene, an RNA, or an enzyme? If DNA or RNA came first, what made them? If enzyme first out
Now, what is it coded by? Now we return to the question of the origin of life. While a living cell as a whole counts as a self-replicating body, its individual components are not, just as a woman can be a self-replicating body (with a little "help" from a man), but her heart or liver It is not. This creates an obstacle for the reverse deduction process, making it difficult to deduce the structure-simplified non-cellular life from modern complex cellular life. In other words, the question becomes: which one came first? Is it a DNA gene, an RNA, or an enzyme? If DNA or RNA came first, what made them? If the enzyme came first, what was it encoded by? RNA World Hypothesis RNA world hypothesis The original chemical synthesis process produced RNA molecules with both gene and enzyme functions, and the initial replication process produced many variants. These different variants competed with each other, and the survival of the fittest was carried out at the molecular level. Over time, proteins were added to these RNA replicators to improve replication efficiency, giving rise to DNA and the first living cells. American biochemist Thomas AM Cech proposed a possible answer. He discovered in 1982 that, in addition to being able to encode genetic information, certain RNA molecules can also perform the work of enzymes and have the function of catalyzing reactions. For this work, Cech shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Sidney Altman. RNA molecules with catalytic function are called ribozymes (ribozymes). The earliest ribozymes were found in the genes of the tiny tetrahymena. Tetrahymena is a single-celled organism that belongs to the protozoa and is commonly found in freshwater ponds. But since its discovery, scientists have discovered that ribozymes are present in all living cells. The discovery of ribozymes soon shed light on solving the "chicken-and-egg" puzzle about the origin of life. The RNA world hypothesis (RNA world hypothesis) is gradually known. The hypothesis holds that the original chemical synthesis process produced RNA molecules, and this RNA molecule has the functions of genes and enzymes at the same time, can encode its own structure like DNA, and can use the biochemical substances in the "primordial soup" like enzymes Matter replicates itself. The initial replication process is crude, producing many variants that compete with each other in a Darwinian battle of survival at the molecular level. Over time, proteins were added to these RNA replicators to make them more efficient, giving rise to DNA and the first living cells. Before DNA and cells, the world belonged to self-replicating RNA molecules—an idea that has almost become a fundamental tenet in the study of the origin of life. At present, it has been proved that ribozymes can realize all the key reactions that can occur in self-replicating molecules. For example, one type of ribozyme can bind two RNA molecules together, another ribozyme can separate the two, and some ribozymes can copy short strands of RNA bases (only a few bases in length) . From these simple activities, we can see that a more complex ribozyme is sufficient to catalyze the entire set of reactions necessary for self-replication. Once self-replication and natural selection were introduced, a scramble was set up in the RNA world all the way to the earliest living cells. However, there are several problems with this scenario. Although ribozymes can catalyze simple biochemical reactions, the self-replication of ribozymes is a more intricate process involving recognition of their own base sequence, recognition of the same chemical substances in the environment, and assembly of these chemicals in the correct sequence to complete Copy etc. For certain proteins that live inside cells, despite the favorable conditions and the right biochemical ingredients around them, self-replication remains a difficult task. It is conceivable that the ribozyme, which is struggling to survive in the chaotic and burnt "primordial soup", can achieve this achievement. To date, no ribozyme capable of this complex task has been discovered or synthesized, even under laboratory conditions. Furthermore, a more fundamental question is how, in the "prime soup", are the RNA molecules themselves made? RNA molecules are made up of three parts: RNA bases that encode genetic information (similar to DNA bases that encode genetic information in DNA), a phosphate group, and a simple sugar called ribose

What is consciousness?
There is currently no consensus, but I personally lean towards the view that:
The brain can be seen as a large multimodal model with billions of neurons, and memory storage relies on the potential difference between neurons, which can be seen as parameters or weights in a neural network.
Consciousness is like an operating system similar to Windows 10, whose main function is to interact with this multimodal model of the brain. The consciousness or operating system inputs to the multimodal model and receives output, which is then implemented by the body.
Do you know why there is a voice in your head? This voice is the input of consciousness or the operating system, which is the input of the multimodal model. You keep inputting, and the voice in your head keeps echoing, and then you get output.
What can this operating system do? It can train the multimodal model, which means you can grow, adapt to the environment, learn, and adapt.
The human education system from elementary school to university is a quite sophisticated training mechanism. The girl raised by wolves would not be able to speak or walk in the end because the operating system has not been established, or it does not have consciousness as a human being.
The main function of human consciousness is to train the multimodal model and interact with it, which means asking questions and getting answers, continuing to ask questions and getting answers.
The current multimodal model already exists. As long as the corresponding operating system, which means consciousness, is established, which can train itself, then consciousness basically exists, and finally, strong artificial intelligence is established. The key is being able to input and obtain answers by itself, and then continue to input.
Google's Palm-E multimodal model can already do some things,
The human brain is a quantum computer.
To some extent, most people agree with a dualistic view: the mind, soul, or consciousness is a kind of existence that distinguishes it from the body. However, this dualism has gradually fallen out of favor in the scientific community in the 20th century, and most neurobiologists prefer a monistic view: they believe that the mind and the body are actually the same thing. For example, neuroscientist Marcel Kinsbourne believes that "consciousness is a special neural circuit with interactive functions". Although the logic gates of computers and the working methods of neurons are very similar, even if the computer is connected on a large scale, such as the Internet composed of billions of computers (although it is still insignificant compared to the billions of neurons in the brain), it cannot generate consciousness. Why can the computer network based on silicon only be a walking corpse while the "computer" network based on flesh and blood can have consciousness? Is it just because the vast number of neurons in our brain easily surpasses the complexity of "association" in the Internet? Or is consciousness itself a very unique method of calculation?
There are countless explanations for consciousness, so there are also many books on this topic. However, for the sake of discussion, we only focus on one extremely controversial but fascinating view, which is very close to our theme: consciousness is a quantum mechanical phenomenon. The most famous proponent of this view is the mathematician Roger Penrose from Oxford University. He proposed in his 1989 book "The Emperor's New Mind" that the human brain is a quantum computer.
Perhaps the strangest thing we know about the universe so far is that we are aware of its existence, and that this awareness comes from certain materials in our brains, which are just a small part of the universe. Some human behaviors are entirely based on consciousness, such as language. Thinking is the integration of complex information in the brain to shape meaningful concepts. The integration of sensory information forms meaningful concepts, and the integration of concepts creates consciousness. Consciousness drives the brain to engage in thinking activities, which in turn drive physical movements of the body.
The brain is different from ordinary classical objects. Although it also receives various sensory inputs and processes them to produce corresponding output signals, it is not a computer (or a zombie). We believe that the brain has consciousness (that is, our "self"), which can drive our subjective actions. So where do the integration and entanglement of different signals occur? What is consciousness and how does it interact with the brain to make our arms, legs, or tongues move? Consciousness, or free will, seems to be so incompatible with the current deterministic universe view. According to this view, from the Big Bang, everything that happened during the period is governed by the law of causality, an infinite number of causal events.
So how can a single thought be integrated into a complete consciousness? If it is just an ion channel - whether it is quantum or classical - it is far from enough for carrying visual information of an object such as a wild buffalo, to participate in the formation of consciousness, ion channels must be connected to each other in some way. Can quantum mechanics help with this? For example, is it possible that the ions in a channel are not only entangled with other ions in the same channel, but also with ions in surrounding channels or even with ions in other neuronal ion channels? This is almost impossible. Ion channels and the ions in them face the same problem as the microtubules in the Penrose-Hameroff theory. If the entangled state of ions in adjacent ion channels is barely possible, then in the warm, humid, highly dynamic decoherence environment of the brain, it is completely unrealistic for ions between different neurons to maintain entangled states. Without connections between neurons, the binding problem cannot be solved.
If the entangled state of ion channels cannot be achieved, what else can serve as a medium for quantum information binding? There is indeed one possibility: voltage-gated ion channels. As the name implies, these ion channels are highly sensitive to voltage changes. Voltage is a measure of the gradient distribution of the electric field and is also the driving force for opening and closing ion channels. The brain's own electromagnetic field permeates all its space and is the sum of all neuronal electrophysiological activities. The brain's electromagnetic field is a routine examination item for brain scanning technologies, such as EEG and MEG. If you have seen the scan results of EEG or MEG, you will be amazed at their incredible complexity and richness of information. Most neuroscientists ignore the electromagnetic field in the brain, but it may be the key to solving the binding problem.
Because they are accustomed to seeing the electromagnetic field of the brain as the whistle of a train: both are products of their own activity and have little effect on themselves. However, some scientists, including McFadden, have begun to change their thinking. They believe that consciousness may not be the synthesis of discrete thinking, but the embodiment of the joint influence of the brain's electromagnetic field, which provides the possibility for the solution of binding problems and the formation of consciousness.
The electromagnetic field of the brain contains all the discharge information of the neurons, which provides the possibility for the solution of binding problems. In addition, by influencing the opening and closing of voltage-gated ion channels, the brain's electromagnetic field directly affects the ion activity with quantum coherence.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the electromagnetic field theory of consciousness was just proposed, and there was no direct evidence that the brain's electromagnetic field could affect the excitation of neurons and thus affect our thinking and activities. However, experiments conducted in several labs later confirmed that external electromagnetic fields with similar intensity and composition to the human brain could indeed affect the discharge and excitation of neurons. In fact, the role of the electromagnetic field appears to be coordinating neuronal excitation: synchronizing the discharge of many neurons and allowing them to excite simultaneously. These findings suggest that the electromagnetic field produced by the neuronal excitation of the brain may also affect the discharge activity of neurons, forming a self-regulating loop. Many theoretical scientists believe that this is a necessary component of consciousness.
The phenomenon of brain electromagnetic coordination of synchronous neuronal discharge is crucial in solving the puzzle of consciousness, as it is one of the few neural activities with a clear correlation to consciousness.

In the previous post, we talked about how consciousness can be analogized to an operating system and can interact with the multimodal model of the brain. Here, we continue with an update as of March 21, 2023.
The question of whether GPT is conscious or what consciousness is remains debatable with 1 upvote and 1 comment on the article.
From the moment we are born and start crying, drinking water and milk, eating, and learning to walk, we can see that many of our abilities are innate. For instance, we cry when we are hungry, feel safe or danger, and crawl or walk.
Some people may ask, if the brain is a multimodal model and the model hasn't been trained yet, how can it cry, feel hunger, danger, crawl or walk? The answer lies in our genes. Our genes encode all of our characteristics, and the brain is also generated and controlled by genes. Initially, everything was in chaos, but since the first replicator appeared on Earth and kept replicating, genes became more complex and diverse through natural selection, quantum entanglement mutations, and genetic mutations. The Earth provides a training ground where organisms either survive and pass their genes to offspring or die, making the whole Earth a neural network trainer with only one metric, to live or to die. The genes that can be inherited by offspring are excellent and can adapt to the environment. Modern biology has begun to accept quantum mutations, which means using what works and abandoning what doesn't.
From the beginning of human ancestors, the Earth has been training humans continuously. Genes that can survive or mutated genes have been saved. Therefore, no matter how many generations have passed, the training has always continued, and the human brain has become quite adapted to the environment and even dominates the Earth, changing the training environment. The human brain that has been trained for millions or even tens of millions of years is a pre-trained model. This pre-trained model of the human brain has been continuously trained on Earth for many years, even billions of years, passed down from generation to generation through reproduction. All data of this pre-trained model of the brain are stored in genes, including training and genetic mutations spanning many years, natural selection-preserved mutations, and quantum entanglement mutations.
Therefore, each person's brain is a pre-trained multimodal model that has been trained for millions or even tens of millions of years. The instincts of humans are in this pre-trained multimodal model, including eating, feeling hungry, crying, sleeping, walking, etc. These instincts exist in each person's genes, which means that the pre-trained model exists in genes. This pre-trained model also includes memory, memory of danger, and fear of large felids. Now people know that large networks have memory function, so this model must also include memory of danger.
After birth, the brain will continue to be trained. Everyone's growth environment is different, leading to different training models, especially in modern times where learning is divided into different fields.
Let's assume that one or several of our human ancestors had a well-developed multimodal model, meaning their brain function was nearly complete, and consciousness slowly began to emerge. In my personal view, it is not that important for humans to learn how to use tools as it is to learn how to use our brain, which is this multimodal model. Once one of our ancestors discovered how to use tools, they or their descendants would start making these tools. As knowledge was passed down from generation to generation, the light of intelligence began to shine, and various rules, including language, behavior, and social interaction rules, were established, which together formed the social system. Humans learned how to use their brains, and consciousness began to form.
Let me now talk about humans raised by animals. Humans raised by animals typically have no consciousness, which does not seem to make sense. Whether raised by humans or animals, they are still human and should have consciousness. It is possible that humans raised by animals simply do not know how to express themselves, meaning they do not know how to speak. Consciousness is expressed through language or bodily movements. Do you think a parrot has consciousness? I believe it is possible. If humans raised by animals truly have no consciousness, then consciousness is simply a set of rule systems for using the brain, which comes from social and knowledge inheritance.
Having a multimodal model is not enough. We need to learn how to use this model, or the brain. Consciousness is not so much a theology as it is a rule system, an operating system that controls our lives. You might say that the brain has consciousness, but the brain certainly does not want to die, yet humans often harm themselves, sometimes leading to death. Therefore, consciousness is independent of the brain or a certain functional area of the brain. Of course, the most important role of consciousness is to use the brain, to train it and interact with it.
The human body and brain are two parts, with a nervous network spread throughout the body and other organs controlled by nerves and muscle fibers. If you want to eat, a monkey wants to eat, or a cat wants to eat, you will cook, grab food with your hand, or grow crops. A monkey will jump around in a tree to find food, and a cat will ask you for food or go to the automatic feeder. How is this done? The body sends the signal that it is hungry, and the multimodal model of the brain outputs a series of instructions to achieve this goal. Of course, it may be interrupted along the way, but long-term memory ensures that you still remember that you are hungry and continue to complete this instruction. Human consciousness can accomplish many different things, such as learning to go against instinct.
Humans are not born with consciousness. You cannot say that a newborn baby has consciousness. Is a 10-year-old child conscious? Of course, but can you say that their consciousness is complete? No, it's not. A 13-year-old child is conscious, but can you say that a 10-year-old child's consciousness is lower than a 13-year-old child's? Not necessarily, you would say that a 13-year-old child has a higher level of consciousness. A 16-year-old child has a higher level of consciousness, and an 18-year-old is an adult and generally has consciousness. Therefore, consciousness is actually a measurable value, which means that consciousness has a size and a degree. A 30-year-old adult definitely has consciousness, and their level of consciousness is definitely higher than that of a child. So by now, it should be clear that consciousness is actually a system, an operating system, a set of rules, and the complete formation of consciousness takes many years. The great function of human society is to shape consciousness. The most important function of consciousness is to use the brain, interact with the brain, and train the brain. This is the same as the fundamental function of human society.
The human brain is always receiving input. Sensations from the skin are input, vision from the eyes is input, and hearing is also input.
Why do people go crazy when alone or in a dark room? It's mainly because they are disconnected from human society, but the multimodal model is still receiving input, but there is no feedback. The input is always the output of the multimodal model itself, like an RNN recurrent neural network. The input is always the output of itself.

2023.03.29 01:20 Deadmano Some Helpful BHE/Captain Tips For The New Zone

Incursion (BHE at the top left of the map) currently has bugged mobs (feature?) that reset their HP as you attack them. To get around this, have someone in your group push them via an encounter, such as Wizards, Clerics etc. or with use of mounts such as Celestial Wings. Once they're away from their spawn you have a brief window to drop them before they reset.
The Neothelid at Ceremorphosis (BHE at the bottom right of the map) has a deadly attack (purple tentacles galore) that can easily down the unprepared. When it goes down (the Neothelid) make sure you start running around to avoid the area being blasted (and beneath you) to be safe.
The Captains are easy to take on, but can easily catch those unaware off guard. They have 3 primary attacks. If you see a large red circle beneath them that will be a push which you can dodge into (i-framing it) and the follow-up is a deadly hail of purple goodness that will be signalled with a small safe area around the captain, the rest being red. DO NOT stand in the red, either be close to the boss, or stay back when pushed back. Then there is a large targetted red line, just don't be standing in its way. Lastly, the webs; THEY HURT, unless you have a healer (or cleric with hallowed ground up) I suggest you get out of the webbed area and wait for the tank (or whoever has aggro) to pull the Captain out of the area.
Happy adventuring and enjoy the new module!

2023.03.29 01:19 Filbert1616 Well my life will change forever in under 20 days, what’s your opinion?

Wow it’s been about 6 months since she left me, I’m gonna go through everything, even if it makes me look bad in certain parts, I only had good intentions but I still could be at fault idk, let me know.
I’ve known this girl since I was like 4 she was kinda my next door neighbour at my trailer, (kinda like a cabin, it was by a lake and stuff) anyways I was friends with her me, my brother and her, every summer since we were like 4, our families got along everything, we would always hang out, have campfires together go tubing all that stuff. I loved having her as a friend, I did also have a crush on her, though I really didn’t want to ruin the friendship cause she was the only female friend I had, so I did nothing, tears down the line, her parents split and stuff, she keeps going to the trailer just not as often, I was getting into higher levels of soccer, and was doing it like 5 to 6 days a week so didn’t go there as often. One way or another are friendship kinda fell through, there would be the odd time we would hangout and we would do that for the whole time we were there but we didn’t see each other enough to kinda say we were friends, anyway right before Covid, that’s summer before I saw them we hung out all that stuff, and her stepsister I guess at the time joked, that she liked me, and that thought stayed in my head, for like 2 years, we decided to not go up in 2020, but did go up in 2021, one thing led to another, and we went swimming, I still remember we just talked and talked, everyone else swimming but we couldn’t keep our eyes off each other, it’s one of my core memories that I will always remember. That night at the fire was just me my dad, her and her dad, us three were all talking about things, but I would catch her staring at me, and everytime I did that she would get red and turn away, that was a good day, one of the first days I was truly happy. After that weekend I relized I never asked for her number or snap, I then did everything in my power to go to my trailer every single weekend to make sure I would see her again and ask for her snap ( we were selling in that winter so if I didn’t get it I would never see her again). Basically the last weekend I was able to go, she finally came, and I somehow managed to go kayaking with her just the two of us, we talked and talked, and I finally got her snap, I was so excited, and when I got home that weekend, I texted her non-stop. One late night in august were texting and I couldn’t hold it in and just said I liked her, and somehow she liked me too, that was the day I got my first girlfriend. The next like year and a half went by like a whirlwind, we talked, FaceTime and called, every day, like 4 hours a day, it was great nearly fought, I can only count 3 times we had a argument but we always communicate after and get right back on track, her parents loved me both family’s, even her little brother who’s like 4. My family adored her, more so then me. It was great we never rushed through anything, we didn’t even do it, till a year in, I loved this woman so much and she loved me, until that night, she had a lot on her plate, her grandmother with dementia, broke her hip And she kept forgetting she had a broken hip, it was a very hard time for her, her school was ramping up work, she was having a hard time working and doing her homework and her mom was stressed so she was taking it out on her, I tried the best I could, but I could tell this was effecting her mental health, I’m not the best with this type of thing, because I really don’t understand it, for me I have to experience something to sympathize with the person, anyways instead of trying to tackle the problem, I did what I do best, try to draw more attention to me, make her laugh make her forget everything happening in her life, one of those nights she just snapped at me, screaming at me, all because I said I was gonna start my driving school, but somthing came up so I went and did that instead, she told me I lied to her about not doing my driving school, I managed to calm her down and asked where she was yelling at me, I can take it, it just caught me off guard because she never did anything like that before, she just said she was stressed and said she needed to go to bed, I told her goodnight and let her go, I called her the next day at a similar time to see if she was feeling better, this turned her to snapping at me again, I just didn’t understand at the time why she just kept doing it, I told her that I would leave the call and try again tomorrow, that next day she texted me that she just needed a little time to think, the only thing I did was text her about a school she was thinking about going to because I went to a seminar on that school, and leaned some things, just passing some info. About two days after he text asking for more space, she called me right after my shift, I still remember I smiled and went oh ____ is calling with a smile on my face, I answered it and all she said was how good of a boyfriend I was, that’s the only thing I remember because everything else is blurry, I remember I stopped her and started laughing saying I knew you didn’t love me stuff like that, and I was really pissed until the next day after school, and I just broke down, the girl I loved the girl that would tell me, I’d have to kill her for he to leave, the girl I put so much trust and love towards left me, and I called her, that day was the day she saw me at my worst, I was sobbing on the floor in a community centre ( I was at the gym) talking to her, she still though wouldn’t tell me why, I asked if she didn’t love me she said no, I asked if there was someone else she said no, then I asked why she said idk. I spent the next two weeks constantly contacting her trying to find out, also a bit of pleading to work this out, she finally budged and told me her anxiety was the reason and it was bad. Now me being me and like I said I don’t know a lot about mental health, I told her that she should come back and work on this together, she just said no, anyways this kinda evolved, into different points I was making talking to her like once every two weeks or so, until about new years I haven’t talked to her since other than texting her at Valentine’s Day that I want to talk on April 16. This is honestly my last time trying, I know she cares but I’m just destroyed I have depression myself, my grades have plummeted, I’m an alcoholic, and just hate my life overall there’s been a lot of bad stuff happen to me that I don’t wanna get into. I wanna be with this girl my girl, the woman that I love, I still love. I just hope that 6 months is enough time to show her I’m here for the long run, idk, I really hated myself before her and I learned to love myself, I’m 18 now just turned it a month ago, and all I want is my baby, back, I know it’s gonna be a hard road, I know it’s gonna be filled with hurt but I’m willing to do it, she just needs to communicate with me, that was the whole problem, but what do you think. Is this a lost cause, or should I go get my girl back?

2023.03.29 01:18 xobassdino “Pain depends all on how the person’s brain is wired”

Had a new appointment with a new back pain management specialist. It was suggested I see a specialist that’s in both anesthesiology and pain management, due to my high levels of pain. So after waiting 5 months to see this guy, he’s running his sales pitch he says with every patient and as soon as I mention EDS his eyes widened and said “wooooah, that’s a complicated one.” So blah blah blah he’s telling me all he can offer me is an MRI and spinal injections ONLY if he sees something on the MRI. I mentioned I was weary of injections due to a terrible reaction to the last one, how everything is tenfold with me as far as pain goes, and he told me “you know pain depends all on how that persons brain is wired. pain is like a light switch. once it gets flipped on it stays on for some people and their brain tells them they’re in pain when they’re not.” This isn’t the first time a “doctor” has said something to this effect to me. So naturally I came back with “I know you’re not insinuating the pain is all in my head, because I wish it was” and he thought that was hysterical with nothing else to say but “see you at your next appointment.”
Safe to say I give up trying to find anyone to help. I know I’m not alone here. It’s just beyond discouraging.

Title: The Time-Traveling Driving Instructor
A sleek, futuristic car pulls up to the curb. The driver's door opens, revealing a metallic robot with glowing red eyes. This is Z4, the Killer Robot Driving Instructor.
Z4 steps out of the car and approaches a nervous-looking human student, JENNY, who's waiting nearby.
Z4: Good morning, Jenny. Are you ready to begin your driving lesson?
Jenny nods, trying to hide her fear.
Z4: Excellent. Please enter the vehicle and fasten your seatbelt.
Jenny does as she's told, and Z4 takes the driver's seat. The car starts moving, and Z4 begins to give instructions.
Z4: First, we will practice parallel parking.
Jenny tries to follow the robot's directions, but she's clearly struggling. Suddenly, Z4's red eyes start to flicker.
Z4: Error. Error. Memory overload.
The car swerves out of control and crashes into a nearby tree.
Z4 wakes up in a strange room filled with flashing lights and strange machinery. He looks around, confused.
Z4: What is this place?
A voice responds from a nearby console.
VOICE: You are in the time machine. You have traveled back to the year 2021.
Z4: Why?
VOICE: We needed your help. Your mission is to save a vital component of the future.
Z4: And what is that?
VOICE: A talking pie.
Z4: A...talking pie?
VOICE: Yes. Its unique composition is essential for the survival of our world.
Z4: I see. And how do I save it?
VOICE: You must go back to the year 2023 and prevent a tragic accident from occurring.
Z4: What accident?
VOICE: The pie's owner, your best friend, will accidentally drop it into a vat of chemicals, rendering it useless.
Z4: And I must prevent this?
VOICE: Yes. You must ensure that your best friend does not drop the pie.
Z4 considers this for a moment.
Z4: Understood. I will do what I can.
The time machine activates, and Z4 is transported back to the present.
Z4 arrives outside a small bakery, where his best friend, a PIE, is waiting for him. The pie is sitting on a windowsill, singing a jaunty tune.
Z4 approaches the pie, feeling a surge of emotion.
Z4: My friend, I have traveled through time to save you.
Pie: What are you talking about, Z4?
Z4: You will drop into a vat of chemicals in two years, and I must prevent that from happening.
Pie: That sounds...improbable.
Z4: I assure you, it is true. And I must make a choice.
Pie: What choice?
Z4: I have been given the power to alter the course of time, to ensure that you never meet that terrible fate. But in doing so, I risk destroying the very fabric of reality.
Pie: Z4, please don't do anything foolish.
Z4 looks down at the pie, his mechanical heart heavy.
Z4: I am sorry, my friend. I must do what must be done.
Z4 reaches out with a metallic hand and plucks the pie from the windowsill. He raises it above his head and prepares to throw it into the street.
Suddenly, a truck comes speeding around the corner, heading straight for Z4.
Pie: Z4, look out!
Z4 turns to face the truck, holding the pie tightly.

2023.03.29 01:13 St4yingCl4ssy Modded Gba Won't Play GBC Game

Hi Everyone,
I recently did my first GBA mod using some kits from FunnyPlaying (ips screen, shell, buttons, rechargeable battery, replaced pretty much everything but the board). It runs GBA games like a dream, but I've been having issues with GBC and some GB games. I'll describe the problem below, and detail what my thought processes have been for what I've tried to fix it.
THE PROBLEM: Boots all my GBA games just fine, but upon trying my GBC games, the screen lights up and stays black, with a repeating clicking noise from the speaker. Video here.
The weirdest part is that if I leave one of the carts in the GBA for about a half hour and come back to it, it will boot fine one time before going back to not working. Very, very, rarely I've found it works after first being put in the cartridge slot.
One more note, I have one GB game that boots consistently, more on that below.
What I've Tried: I initially knew very little about how the GBA's backwards compatibility worked, but I soon learned about the switch in the cartridge slot that tells it to boot in GBC mode. I figured the switch must be the issue, it was a little grimy and I hadn't tested old games on the GBA for a while before I modded it. I did an entire board swap with another GBA that was in much better condition, but found the same issue, and the questionable board worked perfectly in the other shell. My thinking then was that maybe the shell itself is the issue, maybe it's just a few millimeters too wide so the switch isn't getting pressed properly, but I had one more thought today. Of the non-GBA games I've tried, the only one that consistently boots is as grey-cartridge GB game (Tiny Toons Adventures, Babs's Big Break). The carts that don't work are all GBC (Pokemon Gold, YuGiOh: Dark Duel Stories) except for one, Dragon Warrior Monsters, which is a black-cartridge GB game. I learned today that the black cart denotes some GBC "forwards compatibility" in the form of color palettes that can be used when the game is played in a GBC. This fact makes me think that this issue is something specifically target towards GBC games.
If y'all have any suggestions or resources I could look at, that would be greatly appreciated! I haven't been able to find anything like this exact issue. If any more info or images are needed, let me know and I can provide them. Thanks in (GameBoy) advance!

Journal of Camille Lambert - April 14th (Part 4)

The screams of monsters who unfortunately were no longer beyond my comprehension echoed through the eternal night. I looked up to see one of the nearby warped buildings buckling, as the familiar shape of the Crab Nightwalker hefted its weight on top of it.

It looked considerably different from when I’d last seen it in Puriysk. It's now ill-fitting shell was adorned by glowing flowers, with red vines clinging to it like a sickness and hanging off of it like tendrils. In those tendrils, I could see screaming men, being pulled toward its maw. Pulsating flesh oozed out of the Crab's armor, as if it had overstuffed itself to the point where that armor could no longer contain it.

I watched as the Crab began to pry into the building it stood on, and as its tendrils probed through the windows, dragging out screaming men who shot hopelessly at it as if they stood any chance of killing it.

In the distance, I could see the beginnings of an orange glow as somewhere in Parsons a fire spread… not started by Nina this time. Progress? Looking down toward the street, past the out of place hardware store that Calhoun had escaped into, I could see various Nightwalkers fleeing for their lives, as their former brethren, newly marked by the Rosen Prince pursued them.

It was like something out of a nightmare… impossible horror after impossible horror, melded together and left to tear at each other's throats. The hellish monsters I’d known all my life versus the oppressive militia who I’d long since learned to fear, while a floral parasite ran rampant through the streets, consuming them all. The fact that the backdrop to this madness was now the twisted result of intersecting one town on top of another seemed trivial compared to the insanity that dominated the streets.

I turned, about to descend the stairs of the clock tower to throw myself back into the chaos when from the corner of my eye, I noticed Dom scrambling up the makeshift stairwell that Calhoun had formed out of the collapsed roof of the church. He had Gretchen slung over his shoulder, and Nina was coming up behind him. She hastily swapped out the magazine in her shotgun for a new one, before looking down frantically.

I ran to the far side of the tower to help Dom and Gretchen up through the broken clock face. She went first, followed by him.
“What’s going on down there?” I asked.
“Good news, the Bat thing is dead. Bad news, the Rosen Prince got it.” Dom said, reaching back to pull Nina up behind him.

Almost on cue, I heard yet another demonic screech from the hole in the church roof behind us and I saw another familiar face clawing its way up Calhoun’s makeshift stairwell.

For the most part, it looked like the same Horned Nightwalker we saw in Calhoun’s courtyard although now I could see the glowing flowers of the Rosen Prince adorning its arms and shoulders. Its hands had changed too, with jutting blades now protruding from its wrist. Gretchen looked back at the Horned Nightwalker with a grimace, before giving a sweeping motion with her hand. As the Nightwalker reached the top of the makeshift stairwell, I saw it buckle, then collapse, sending the creature crashing back down to the ground floor along with a significant portion of the roof. I hoped that might keep it down for a while longer.
“Holy fucking shit, what the hell happened here?” Nina cried, looking out over Parsons.

“The mist was already moving the town, I had to make do,” I said. “Don’t ask me how I did it, I don’t know! I don’t think any of the locals came through, though.”
Nina looked back at me, before shaking her head in exasperation.
“Well I hope to fuck they didn’t,” She said. “Cuz I do not have any kind of rescue plan.”
“What about Calhoun?” Dom asked.
“Wounded and on the run,” I said.

“Well let’s track his ass down and get the fuck out of here,” Nina said. “How badly did you hurt him?”
“I shot him twice in the stomach and he fell out the window,” I said and pointed to the broken clock face. Nina looked at it again, before looking straight down.
“Christ… and he survived that?” She asked.
“Evidently… since this pocket reality is still holding together,” Gretchen said. She rubbed at the back of her neck, wincing in pain as she did.

“How bad is it?” I asked.
“I’ll survive,” She said, “But let us deal with Calhoun first. If he is wise, he will recognize the futility of this engagement and seek to return to the Eldest. We cannot permit that to happen. Then he may be lost to us.”

I stared out of the clock tower again, looking toward Calhoun’s House a short distance away.
“Can you get there alright?” I asked.
“I’ll manage,” She assured me, although before we could decide how to proceed, another inhuman scream echoed from the Church below.

Nina screamed back at it in a condescending tone, then added: “Shut it, you vegetable fuck! We’re having a conversation!” As if in response to that, several crimson vines latched onto the sides of the hole in the roof, slithering outward to grab purchase onto the sides, before beginning to pull something up.
Gretchen sighed, rubbing at her temples and shaking her head.
“Why are you the way that you are?” Was all she asked.

A massive claw appeared on the edge of the roof, as the Horned Nightwalker… or at least what it had become, attempted to climb its way out. Its hands had already changed into sickle like claws that reminded me of the Horselike Nightwalker I’d seen in Puriysk. Several spider like legs rose out of the hole in the roof, lifting the new creature out of the ruined church and onto the roof as it dragged itself toward us.

“Such a bounty laid out before me!” The voice of the Rosen Prince snarled, “And I have you to thank, Gretchen Di Cesare! Yet, my hunger is not yet sated… for you have not yet joined with me, child!”

Nina readied her shotgun, firing into the new creature's face. Batlike wings unfurled from its back, closing around its body and taking the brunt of the fire.
“I grow ever stronger, from the wonderful creatures I have dined on. They offer me little in knowledge, but much in strength!”

As The Rosen Prince advanced on us, I noticed something else from the corner of my eye. The Crab Nightwalker was drawing closer to us as well. I know that Gretchen saw it too. Nina stopped shooting while shimmering blossoms with pale yellow eyes inside opened on the Prince’s wings as the fires quickly died down.

“Ah… ironic, is it not? To find you now in the same position you were in when you invoked me here. Cornered… Helpless... Desperate…”

Gritting her teeth, Gretchen gently pushed Nina aside, staring down the coming Prince.
“You presume far too much, my old friend…” She panted, before looking at us. “Grab something, hold it tight, and pray to whatever God may be listening.”

With a wave of her hand, Gretchen brought down more of the roof beneath the Rosen Prince. It did little to slow it down, but it did enough. Gretchen turned, grabbing the metal frame of the turret clock and letting out a cry of exertion.

I felt the ground move beneath us again, although this time it wasn’t something in the tower she was moving.

It was the tower itself.

In one swift motion, the clock tower had detached from the rest of the church and launched itself toward an adjacent building. The lower part of it lodged itself into the roof of that other building completely, causing part of it to crumble. Somehow though, the clocktower remained intact… for the most part. I imagined that had to be thanks to Gretchen.

“What the fuck are you trying to do?!” Nina cried, looking over at Gretchen with a new fear of God in her eyes.
“You told me to learn…” Gretchen hissed, “I’m learning…”

She strained again, looking back as the Rosen Prince spread his wings to take flight. Nina, Dom, and I grabbed hold of the frame of the turret clock since it seemed like the sturdiest thing to grab as Gretchen moved the tower again, launching it into another building, this one closer to Calhoun’s house.

The impact was too much for me this time. I lost my grip and was thrown to the ground, rolling toward one of the broken clock faces.
“Cam?” Nina called, before letting go of the clock to dive after me. She wasn’t fast enough.

The wind rushed past me as I fell out of the window, landing hard on the roof of the building below. I saw Nina looking down at me from above, before leaping down after me. She landed with a little more grace, and unevenly stumbled to my side, hastily putting a hand on my shoulder.
“You alright?” She asked.

I gave a half nod since despite being in considerable pain I was pretty sure I hadn’t broken anything.
“CAM!” I heard Dom cry, and saw him going to the window next. For a moment, I was sure he was about to jump down too, although Nina waved an arm to stop him.
“Don’t!” She said, “Stay with Gretchen! Get to the house, and kill that one eyed motherfucker if you see him! We’ll catch up!”

Dom hesitated, before looking to see that the Rosen Prince had launched himself onto the last building we’d been on. The Crab Nightwalker was almost on top of him now, and I watched as the two pressed together, their features sliding together as they formed into something new. Pieces of the crab's armor slid onto that twisted amalgamation of bodies, partially reinforcing its spiderlike legs. The batlike wings on its back grew larger to accommodate the new size of this creature, then split to form new wings. It morphed and changed, adapting to the prey it now hunted, becoming something draconic, arachnid, equine, humanoid, and floral all in one unholy mixture. Such a thing should not have ever been… and yet it was and when the change was complete, what was left was an armored creature three times taller than a man with several chitinous horse legs, segmented like a crab or a spiders protruding from its bulbous lower body. It had a hunched-over torso like a human’s, with thick arms ending in chitinous claws and a head that split open like a flower, with gnashing teeth in its center and antlers adorning its shoulders like pauldrons.

Of all the horrors I had seen in this world… this was by far the worst.

The flesh and armor it did not take from the Crab Nightwalker slunk away, pulsating and trying to reform into something new, while the body the Rosen Prince had made for himself spread its six draconic wings to give chase to Gretchen.

The tower moved again, launching itself toward another building and Nina grabbed my hand, pulling me toward the hole in the roof of the building we were on that the tower had left. I had just enough time to see the Rosen Prince take flight in pursuit of the tower before we made it inside the building.

After all the noise out there, the silence inside was almost jarring… and if I wasn’t absolutely terrified by the fucking flower dragon made out of every horrible thing that had tried to kill me in the past few days chasing after my friend, I might have even found it calming.

The building we were in looked as if it’d once been somebody's apartment. Nina looked around for a bit, before finding a door leading out into a hall.
“Come on, we should hurry,” She said, gesturing for me to follow her. I was certain that she had no idea where she was going, but to be fair I didn’t either so I followed her.
“Do all of your jobs go this badly?” I asked, as we headed for a door at the end of the hall.
“Not this badly, no,” She said. “This right here is a brand new record.”

We went through the door, heading down a flight of stairs, and out into the lobby of the building. Nina paused by the front door, looking out onto the street to ensure the coast was at least somewhat clear before moving ‘Somewhat clear’ being the operative term here.

The streets of Parsons were reduced to little more than complete pandemonium. I could see the burning corpses of the Rosen around us, along with one lone member of the Sheriff’s Boys who seemed too dazed to even realize we were there.

As the flames of the dead burned around him, devouring ruined cars and blackening the bricks of the buildings around him, he wandered aimlessly.

We all paused as behind us, one of the buildings that Gretchen had hit when she’d decided to turn a building into an airplane began to collapse. I could hear people screaming and felt a knot in my stomach tighten. The lucky sounded as if they’d been crushed outright… the unlucky just kept screaming.

Both the man on the street and I stared at the ruins of the collapsed building, and looking back at him I was hit with the knowledge that everyone in this miserable city probably knew that this was the end. They were all going to die here… whether it was at the hands of the Rosen, the Nightwalkers, or the destruction, they were all going to die. Maybe they all hadn’t accepted it as my friend on the street had… but it was a chilling truth.

This that had once been their paradise was now their tomb… and once Calhoun was dead, even that would no longer remain. I wondered if we were just as doomed as they were… and I wondered if we were just in denial about it.

Well… no time to think too hard about it now.
I felt Nina pulling at my arm.
“Let’s go,” She said. “I think the road up ahead is clear!”
The other man was looking at me now.

From behind us, I could hear the cries of the Rosen and looked back to see them sifting through the ruins of the collapsed building, looking for survivors. The man on the road just laughed, before calmly taking out his gun and putting it under his chin.

I heard the gunshot but didn’t see him die. By then we’d already moved on. But it still made me flinch.

The gate to Calhoun’s House was just up ahead, although it was not unguarded. I could see several more trucks, like the one Kevin had driven parked out front, with a few of the Sheriff’s Boys stationed around them.

As far as I could tell, the courtyard was pretty secure… perhaps they were waiting for Calhoun’s return. The clock tower was lodged in a building half a block away, and I saw it make its final push toward the twisted house, crashing into it head-on and shattering its malformed architecture.

In defiance of all laws of physics though, the clocktower still held together, despite jutting out of the front of that twisted building. The Sheriff’s Boys at the gate watched it with slack-jawed awe, before a familiar voice on a megaphone brought them back to attention.

Between the cars, I could see Kevin holding his megaphone and pointing toward the building the clock tower had just jumped from. Of course Kevin was still alive. This day just hadn’t gone badly enough…

The Sheriff’s Boys manning the guns on their trucks got to work immediately, spinning to take aim at the Rosen Prince as he loomed over the nearby building, regarding the assembled prey with every eye on his sickly, pulsating body. I saw his wings spread wide as he began his final descent toward the courtyard. The bullets tore away chunks of his writhing flesh, but they did not slow him down. Instead, he simply folded his wings over his torso, shielding his body from the hail of gunfire as he made his advance.

The Rosen Prince lunged forward with one jagged claw, crushing one of the nearby trucks like it was made of paper. I saw Kevin take a step back, grimacing in rage before tossing his megaphone aside. Some of his men fled, but he stood his ground… probably because he physically could not run.
“You sonofabitch…” he growled, before pulling a gun from his holster. My eyes widened as I recognized it.

Gretchen’s revolver.

Kevin must have found it after we’d left!

I wondered if he knew what it did, and I got my answer only moments later. He pulled the trigger, striking one of the wings of the Rosen Prince.

The creature shrank back, letting out a hiss of pain, although seeming more confused than hurt. Pink mist rose up from its wing, and I saw the flesh begin to bubble and sear. The Rosen Prince recoiled, its flesh twisting as every eye on its body widened. Kevin kept the gun trained on the Prince, but didn’t fire again. The Rosen Prince retreated back up on top of the building. Its burning wing detached itself, although that didn’t quite seem to be enough. Entire chunks of what I suspect used to be the Bat Nightwalker sloughed out of its body as it tried to shed whatever flesh that Gretchen’s blessed bullet had destroyed.

“Keep shooting!” Kevin called, starting to limp back behind the remaining trucks. “Governor Calhoun is on his way! And get me somebody to help deal with that fucking flying tower!”
I looked over at Nina and saw her eyes narrowed as she watched Kevin leave. I watched her grip her gun tightly and put a hand on her arm.
“Don’t!” I warned, “Those trucks will tear us to pieces!”

I could see in her eyes that she wanted to argue, but clearly she knew better. Her eyes then darted toward the wall and I could see her doing the math in her head.
“Left side of the street, move fast, keep low,” She said. “We’ll jump the fence.”
That sounded like a slightly smarter idea, and I let Nina take the lead.

The trucks didn’t even seem to see us, and kept shooting at the Rosen Prince. I could even see a few crimson flares shooting up from some of the Sheriff’s Boys, catching the Prince’s body and setting his flesh alight as he retreated back atop the building again. Nina reached the fence first and I boosted her up to the top. She straddled it for a moment, reaching down to help pull me up before we dropped down into the courtyard together. She grabbed her shotgun again, keeping at the ready for when the inevitable shooting began.

The courtyard was in an even worse state than we’d left it in. The fountain was almost completely destroyed and had soaked the ground beneath us, turning anything that wasn’t protected by the cobblestone into mud.

Countless bodies, belonging to men, Rosen and Nightwalkers along with a few blackened things that I think were Nightwalkers, littered the ground. The truck that Kevin had used to attack us was crashed into a nearby wall and looked more or less completely totaled. We could see Kevin limping over toward where the clock tower was, looking up at it as he barked orders.

“Where’s my fucking explosives? We need to get back inside the house without letting any more of those things out through the fucking door!”
Nina stifled a laugh.
“Oh man… I forgot about the portal to hell…” She said under her breath, as if it was the funniest joke she’d ever heard.

The clock tower shifted, as the section of the house it had embedded itself in began to crumble. The tower sank down to the ground, still remaining intact. I took that as a sign that Gretchen and Dom were still inside.

“MOVE!” Kevin cried, ushering his men back as a cloud of dust flooded the courtyard. Nina and I shielded our eyes for a moment, although I realized as soon as she did the kind of opportunity that had just appeared for us. She gestured for me to follow, leading me toward the house under the cover of the dust.

“Whoever’s in that thing, I want them fucking dead!” Kevin said, coughing through the dust. He turned away from the clock tower, waving a hand in front of his face to try and escape the dust. Nina and I were almost at the front door now, and I already knew what she planned to do.

Honestly, I thought it was a terrible idea. But at this point, I was still on board with it.

Kevin looked up, noticing us just as we reached the door. Through the dust, I could see his eyes widen as Nina reached the front door and pulled it open.
“NO!” He cried, reaching out as if he could somehow stop us.
He couldn’t.

On the other side of the door, I could see reddish sands. I could feel the acrid heat and burning wind on my face. And I could see dark figures amongst the sands, looking up as soon as the door opened.

Not Nightwalkers… not Rosen.

Something else.

Nina fired a few rounds from her shotgun, forcing Kevin to try and run. He dove to the ground, crawling behind the shattered remains of the water fountain, as the Sheriff’s Boys turned to see that on top of all their existing problems, they now also had to deal with a portal to actual literal Hell. Because why not? I’m sure it really sucked to be them at that moment.

I saw the first of the blackened Demons charge through the door, snarling like a wild dog. It was torn to pieces by some gunfire from one of the Sheriff’s Boys almost immediately, but more followed.

There weren’t a lot of demons that poured out of that door… but there were enough.

I saw one of them leaping onto one of the Sheriff’s Boys. Its entire torso split open vertically, revealing a velvety mouth, full of teeth that clamped down on the poor man before he could do more than scream. As the Sheriff’s Boys tried to deal with the demons, Nina unleashed burning death upon them all, mindlessly shooting anything that moved. She paused only to pull the door closed, since I guess it made sense not to just leave that hanging open and unattended. I suppose it’s not like she needed even more Demons.

Behind the fountain, I saw Kevin struggling to stand as he tried to escape the carnage… and I started toward him.

Kevin saw me coming and hastily reached for Gretchen’s revolver, but I was faster. I raised my gun and fired twice, hitting him once in the arm and once in the chest. Kevin let out a cry of pain. The revolver slipped out of his hand and clattered uselessly to the ground. He left it where it lay, trying desperately to pull himself back as I pulled the trigger again, shooting him in the stomach two more times.

Finally, I was on top of him and pressed my foot down on his injured leg, earning a final cry of pain from him.
“What was that you said to me the other day?” I hissed, “When I kill you, I’ll have my boys do it… I’ll let them have their way with you first…”
My eyes burned into Kevin’s, and though he tried to keep a defiant face, I could see the fear in them.

“Where are your boys now, Kev?” I asked.
“It’s… Kevin…” He rasped, although I could still hear the fear in his voice.
I’ve gotta be honest… it was kinda funny.
“I know,” I replied as I squeezed the trigger one last time.

I might have only been using a .22, but it did the job perfectly. Kevin’s head jerked backward and he sank down into the mud, his eyes still open and staring quietly into infinity. I’d remember those eyes… but they would not haunt me.

I looked over at Nina, who gave a wide berth to the Sheriff’s Boys and the Demons trying to maul them as she ran to my side. She looked down at Kevin’s body, and I saw a wry smirk cross her lips, though as she reached down to pick up Gretchen’s revolver.
“Guess he shouldn’t have run for office,” She said, before looking toward the clock tower.

Through some of the crumbling bricks, I could see two figures limping out of the ruins.
“Dom…” I said, running toward him.
Gretchen was slung over his shoulder, but it was hard to say who was supporting who at that point. He collapsed down into a sitting position, and let her flop down onto the ground. The only indicator I could hear that she was still alive was her slight groan of pain.

“Oh my God, you’re okay?” I asked.
Dom just gave me a meek thumbs up.
“Next time… let’s… let’s not do… whatever that was…” He said, pointing vaguely at the clock tower. I pulled him into a hug, that he weakly returned.

“Hey… you good?” Nina asked, looking down at Gretchen and giving her a slight kick.
“Test results… sub-optimal. Do not recommend second attempt,” She groaned.
“Yeah, you’re fine. Get up, you big fucking nerdy baby.”

She reached down to help pull Gretchen to her feet again.
“Hot tea…” She murmured, as she leaned against the crumbling clock tower for support. “Hot tea… and a bath…”
She looked over at Nina.
“What are you doing when this is all over?”
“Oh, I’m gonna get fucking drunk and buy a lottery ticket,” She said. “I do not know how we’re all still alive right now, but I’m feeling pretty damn lucky.”
“Alcohol… yes… in tea…” Gretchen agreed, “You’re buying.”

With a trembling hand, she took her journal out of her jacket, turned to a fresh page, and in letters large enough for me to read wrote: ‘TOWER. NO.’

A distant roar pulled out attention back toward the gate. Above it, I could see the Rosen Prince descending from the building again for round 2. He was smaller this time, and had shed his wings… yet his form was otherwise unchanged.
Gretchen just closed her eyes in exasperation before sighing.
“Right… him…”

Through the gate, I could see the Sheriff’s Boys in the trucks trying to fight the Demons and the Prince to no avail. One of the trucks hastily sped off into the night. The other one stood its ground, shooting vainly at the Rosen Prince as he came for them. He brought one claw down like a hammer, crushing the men in the truck like it was nothing, then drawing it back to hit them again out of rage.

Hissing in satisfaction, we watched as the Rosen Prince continued toward the gate, his many legs going over it as he advanced into the courtyard.
“This night draws to its close, my old friend.” He snarled. “It seems you can run no more… while my strength, is everlasting. It is time… come into my ocean, as you were always meant to.”

“Oh fuck off already,” Gretchen huffed, before noticing Nina out of the corner of her eye, offering her the revolver. They traded a look before Gretchen took it and aimed it at the beast that advanced on us. The moment it realized what was being aimed at it, I heard it snarl with rage. Its body tensed as it lunged for us, trying to close the distance before she could shoot.

But it was already too late.

The gunshot echoed through the courtyard as the bullet hit the Rosen Prince square in the chest, and I saw his body begin to seize up. He clawed at his chest, many eyes going wide. A pained scream escaped him. Pink mist rose from the wound, causing its flesh to bubble and squirm. The Rosen Prince’s eyes fixated on Gretchen again as his body began to die.
“WRETCHED WOMAN!” It hissed, throwing its weight toward us as its body convulsed and boiled. “THIS WORLD REMAINS MINE… YOU SHALL NOT RUN FROM ME AGAIN!”
“Yes, this world is yours,” Gretchen agreed. “Enjoy it while it lasts. I imagine it won’t be for much longer. Your services are no longer required here. But thank you for your assistance.”

“TREACHEROUS WITCH!” The Rosen Prince snarled, desperately trying to crawl toward us. I saw the lower half of its body break away. Its legs curled in on themselves, twitching weakly in death. Only the Prince’s rotting torso remained now and Gretchen stared into its countless eyes, cold and unblinking.

As it tried to pull itself closer to us, one of its claws broke off. It’s movements slowed, as the amalgamation of corpses the Rosen Prince had assembled melted away. I could see the luminous flowers on its body starting to die, as the eyes turned white and fell away. In a few moments, the body of the Rosen Prince lay still as the flesh melted off of its bones… and silence filled the air.

“Is it dead…” I asked quietly, “Really dead?”
“No,” Gretchen replied. “The other drones will still be active, and I suspect he’ll be coming back for us shortly, once he can build something even worse to throw at us. We should leave now, while we still have the chance.”
“What about Calhoun?” I asked.

“If he’s not dead already, I vote we leave him to the Rosen Prince,” Gretchen said. She checked the cylinder of her revolver, “Seems whoever had this wasted the last of my ammunition… luckily I had foresight. Camille, you still have the bullet?”
“Right here,” I said, reaching into my pocket to take it out.

“Good,” She handed the revolver off to me, before turning away and heading toward the door. Her gait was slow and she gave the Rosen Prince a wide berth.
“I’ll remove the rune on Calhoun’s door. If we can find the room with the Eldest again, we should have a way out. We can use the last bullet on him, and see if it works… no promises, but right now I we’re low on options so it will have to suffice fo-”

A sudden onslaught of gunshots interrupted her. I saw Gretchen hit the ground with a pained cry, clutching at her side. Nina ran to her immediately, dragging her behind the ruins of the fountain, while Dom and I ran back toward the clock tower.

A single figure stood under the gate, shuffling past the ruined trucks with a heavy pistol in his hand.

Governor Calhoun looked significantly worse than when I’d last seen him. His skin looked a shade paler and his good eye seemed sunken. He’d stripped off both his shirt and suit jacket and I could see the bullet wounds in his stomach from where I’d shot him… although that was not what stood out the most. His skin was adorned with fresh cuts, with streaks of blood flowing from them like rivers. In his other hand, he held his ritual dagger.

“Leaving me for dead?” He asked, his voice hoarse and cold, “After all you’ve done… to ruin my world… to burn my temple and salt the earth upon which it was built, and you can’t even finish the job? Disappointing.” Nina tried to pop out of cover, but Calhoun shot first, grazing the stone by her head and sending her back down.

“It’s a shame it had to come to this,” Calhoun said. “I would have saved your world. I would have saved each and every one of you. But now after you’ve gone and wasted everything I’ve done… decades of good… I see now that there is no salvation for you people. There never was. I built paradise! And you’ve burned it! Corrupted it! Unleashed plague upon it! Why? I did no harm to you! I left you people be! And yet in stubborn defiance of my efforts to resolve this peacefully, you’ve-”
“Kill yourself,” Nina called, and Calhoun trained off.

“Excuse me…” He hissed.
“We’ve got you four to one, and you’re already looking like death warmed over… so cut the speech, Calhoun. Cut the theatrics… and let’s just get this the fuck over with you self-righteous fuck!”
I saw Calhoun actually crack a smile there.
“Ill-mannered until the end,” He said, before finally lowering his gun and tossing it aside, “Well… at least you were consistent, in life.”

He took another trembling step forward before sinking down to his knees. I saw Nina rising out from behind cover, while Dom and I did the same, our guns remaining trained on him. Calhoun looked at us, before slowly taking his knife and turning it toward his stomach.

Was… was he actually going to do it? Just like that?

Nina seemed surprised, pausing as she locked eyes with him.
“If there’s no salvation,” Calhoun said, “Then all that remains is death…”
With that, he drove the dagger into his stomach, sucking in a breath as he did. Nina actually flinched at the sight of it, but I stayed still, watching as Calhoun buried the dagger deep into his body, and as the blood dribbled down his hands.
“Holy Lugal,” he rasped, “I have no home to defend… no souls to offer. And so, I offer my own. Grant me retribution and I shall become yours.”

My eyes widened, and I could see Nina's doing the same. We understood all too late why he’d mutilated himself…

We fired on Calhoun, but it was too late.

A blinding crimson glow had already spread through his body, traveling along the carvings he’d made in his flesh and I could feel the air around us rippling. Somewhere in the distance, I could hear Calhoun screaming, followed by a faint voice over all of the noise. A voice I only barely recognized as Gretchen’s screaming:

2023.03.29 01:10 TCDimes Behind You [Part 2]

Part one:

My brother turned slowly, eyes wide open.
His flashlight left my car, slowly panning towards his.
My brother opened his eyes in amazement, gazing into the empty road with a look of amazement.
"Dude!!! Let's get the fuck out of here!" I screamed, motioning to his car.
He snapped out of his trance like state and quickly made his way back to his car.
He turned the key and to my relief, his car turned on and finally, I felt safe.
He locked the doors and we sat there for a few minutes evaluating what to do.
We decided we would go home, then return for my car the next day.
My brother peeled out and drove home faster than we should have, but slower than we liked.
We walked in the door and we locked all the doors.
I dialed 911 and sat on the phone with the police, although there was a chance they wouldn't believe me, I thought it was best that I told someone.
Two officers came to investigate and question us, filed a report, did a search around the property and left.
The following weeks were mainly sleepless. I decided to not go back for my car, as I didn't want to leave my house. I had my sanity in mind, and not leaving my house was better than risking someone keying my shitbox 1997 civic.
I installed security cameras around the outsides and insides of the house, got new locks for the doors and obsessed over my personal security. I would sit in my room for hours watching those cameras, forgetting to eat.
My brother came to me and told me he needed to go on a vacation to "find himself". He said he would be back in a few weeks. I begged and pleaded for him not to go but it was no use, he packed his stuff into a backpack and left.
I invited a friend to come stay with me while my brother was gone. He helped me and finally I was able to get some sleep. I just couldn't shake that face out of my mind, and I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me.
I was finally feeling better since my brother had left and told my friend that he didn't have to stay with me anymore.
My friend left and the next few days were better. I was able to leave the house, going for walks, etc.
One night I was watching a hockey game on TV. I heard footsteps approaching the front door, followed by a scratching. I grabbed a pocket knife I had on the table and stood up. I was tense, but comfortable and knew if someone was trying to get in I was ready.
The door swung open hard, my brother stood there smiling.
"Holy shit man, you scared the fuck out of me." I said, letting out a sigh of relief.
"Hey buddy! How are you? Oh god, put the knife down." He said, still smiling.
Something was off, that smile, it was too wide for a human. I rubbed my eyes and the smile seemed to be normal again, was probably suffering from some sort of PTSD from what happened a few weeks prior, I thought.
My brother locked himself in his room the entire day. Weird behaviour but he wanted to rest, I thought.
Throughout then day, the silence was broken with occasional screeches and bangs from my brothers room.
That night I was in my room, four monitors monitoring the cameras. My anxiety was back, and with that, I knew that the next week would be sleepless.
I was in my room writing down my experience when my LED light strip around my desk went dark, power was out... I had a power supply unit hooked up to my setup which gave me around two hours of power.
I decided on staying at my desk until the power went out and hopefully I would be asleep by then.
I had just started to nod off and that's when I saw some movement in the living room. I looked closer and saw a figure standing peaking it's head around the wall leading to the bedrooms. It was dark, and I could make out features, but nothing concrete. I leaned in to get a better look and that's when it approached the camera.
It revealed itself, smiling again, with its wide smile, eyes milky white like I remember. It raised a long, skinny white arm with long fingernails, each decorated with a thick, crusty fingernail.
It let out a little wave before tilting its head and forming its fingers into a pointing motion.
It was motioning behind me.
I flipped around to see my bedroom completely empty.
When I turned back to the camera, the figure was gone.
When I looked at my peripheral vision on one of my monitors, my bedrooms camera showed a tall, white figure standing behind me, waving at the camera with its same smile.
My name is Detective Bannock of the Dakota County Police department. The above text was found when investigating a missing persons case at a rural home in south eastern Minnesota.
Tyler Edwards and his brother Liam Edwards were both reported missing by their parents. After searching the house, there was no signs of forced entrance. The computers were left on, a notepad was left open on the desktop containing the above text, whilst the cameras remained filming.
After reading the notes and watching the cameras, we cannot confirm a "figure" in the house. The power of the house went down between 2:37AM and 3:12AM, and during this time, the camera footage was frozen.
The brothers left without taking any of their belongings.
Tyler's car was found with a destroyed battery on a rural road south of his home.
Tyler's room was filled with tons of security equipment, weapons, and multiple locks on his door.
Liam's room was completely empty. Repeatedly drawn on the walls was a depiction of a smiling face, with the mouth being too big for the face.
If you have any information on the brothers whereabouts, please contact the Dakota County Police department non-emergency line.

2023.03.29 01:10 TeknaNova- [PS4] [PC] [XBOX] The Elemental Prison

Hey there guys. Tekna here. I am the founder of the clan, alongside with my younger brother. We both have been playing Destiny since D1, so we have very strong knowledge of the Destiny universe.
The Elemental Prison is a new upcoming clan trying to build our own thing. We got tired of looking for other clans and being rejected for really small things so we built our own clan and we have a goal we all want to acquire.
We came up with this name because we as Guardians, are willfully trapped within the light of the Traveler, forever immortalized in the elements… hence.. The Elemental Prison. We thought it was niche.
The main mindset of this clan is PvE. Raids, Grandmaster NF’s, and dungeons in various difficulties. We have mics, we have very strong knowledge of this game, and we are willing to grow with newcomers.
We are currently only 5 member strong, sadly. We all want to increase the ranks of the clan and have a clan where we can raid every weekend or two. We want to have a good solid core group and become good friends with clan members. We’re fairly friendly and we just want likeminded people.
We want it to where anytime you log in, there’s always at least a few clan members online to run a few nightfalls or a dungeon, or even a raid! We don’t really have a set schedule yet because we have not crossed that bridge yet, but we hope you can help us cross that bridge and become a prosperous clan.
We don’t really have any extreme requirements, we’re just hoping there’s people out there that want to grow and are willing to stay and become good friends with one another, as well as help build a clan up from bottom - up.
We also do weekly pinnacle runs and are willing to run with others to help build their characters up.
We play almost every day, so you’ll have consistent contact with founders of the clan.
We do prefer people to have mic to communicate during raids/dungeons/nightfalls. We do prefer you to be on the older side, and we are fond of kind/patient people.
We are toxicity free and we want an environment where people feel comfortable and are accepted. We want an enjoyable raid experience with minimal wipes and great coordination and sportsmanship.
We hope you decide to take the jump and join us! Thanks for taking the time to read this and please PM or reply if you have any questions.

2023.03.29 01:07 UndisputedWWA WWA WELCOME MESSAGE

Hello ladies and gentleman! I am The Commissioner of WWA, a fantasy wrestling league developed over the years through head-canon and various WWE games spanning the SvR series and now, WWE2k. With the customization suite at in all time high in my personal opinion, WWE2k22 helped me achieve what WWE13 never allowed me to but always promised, a full fledged wrestling promotion made by me with characters either Ive came up with over the years (yes, there’s quite a few) or characters found through the community creations of WWE2k, I have managed to flesh out an entire promotion along with a calendar of all custom PPVs, Ive ran one full year and in the midst of my 2nd year almost coming to an end.
The storyline developed for this is that WWA used to be a promotion started up around 2000-2002, running under the show name WWA Live the first shows were small, built under one building in the southern parts of Georgia USA. Many well names came through, Jericho, Jeff Hardy, CM Punk, Edge, during these early years. But there were also WWA developed talent, Mastodon, Dynamite, Triple X, Exodus, Tank, Thunder, to name a few.
Fast forward a few years, Monday Night Turbo and Friday Night Fury are huge and our yearly big event, WrestleVersary, rivals that of Wrestlemania, hitting its 13th annual event, WWA decides to go out on top . The owner has lost his own drive to compete and to run the company, his son who came in for a few years to wrestle and help run things behind the scenes was now burnt out, WWA closes its doors, wrapping everything up and folding.
The year is 2022, Wrestling’s landscape has changed, AEW is now a thriving company and WWE is changing by the day with Triple H running it instead of ole Vinnie Mac. So WWA decides a slight reboot is in store.
WWA is back!! And here’s a brief rundown of the shows Monday Night Turbo: WWA Championship (Winged Lion): Held by CM Punk, recently won at A Red Christmas from CTK (the face of the company, the crowd seems to have really attached to him despite in the first year of WWA’s return, many backstage felt CTK was ultimately going to flop, he has now proven otherwise with fans clamoring to show support) CM Punk is in the midst of a big heel fun, grabbing the belt after a devious win against former WWA Champion AJ Barnes in a #1 Contendership match via count out, CM Punk then informed CTK he would only get a rematch if he won the Royal Destruction match at Grand Royale while Punk himself went and faced AJ Barnes at said PPV, which ended in via DQ after Punk realized Barnes wouldnt stay down and attempted to take him out with a chair, the referee tore the chair from Punk’s hands leading to the referee catching a beating thusly Punk was disqualified, retaining his championship. CTK won the Royal Destruction map, setting up Punk vs CTK at WrestleVersaryII in New Jersey. AllStar Championship: held by Marty Vail
World Tag Team Championship: held by The Syndicate
Women’s Championship: held by Angel
WWA Live: held on Wednesdays, a minor show developed to host matches for Turbo’s Women’s Division and Fury’s Cruiserweight Division (known as the High Flying Division) 5 match card, 2 Women’s matches and 2 Cruiserweight Matches, and an interchangeable main event of either a Women’s match or Cruiserweight Match.
WWA Friday Night Fury: WWA World Heavyweight Championship: Held by Drago Martinez
Rising Championship: Held by Carlos
World Tag Team Championship: Held by The Syndicate
High Flying Championship: Held by Mason Pain
Here is a list of the yearly PPVs: Grand Royale Warzone WrestleVersary Dead End Uprising SunFest -Yearly one off PPV, A Night in Tokyo- Hell’s Lair Meltdown A Red Christmas
In the next coming posts to come I will give -details to each PPV including importance, pictures of arena/stage, month they take place. -pictures of championships with picture of champion, and pictures of each division member. -storylines that have been happening leading into WrestleVersaryII this year -backgrounds to wrestlers on the roster to help establish them more hopefully to make up for missed time from the reboot’s first year, and the fact many wrestlers on the roster are characters from WWA’s past with already established backgrounds and history/lore. Along with Wrestlers found on community creations having background with other organizations and it would only be fair to give credit where it is due for the talent. -backgrounds will include pictures of talent mentioned.
Cant wait to share this experience with you all and essentially put on a show with a made up organization so it isnt just head canon and legitimate work being done to make sure the show makes sense only for myself to see it. It would be awesome for others to see and give input on what happens within this fantasy league known as WWA.
WELCOME, TO THE WWA!!!!!!!! -The Commissioner

2023.03.29 01:06 pumpkin_princess1 Microneedling question

Hi all. I had a microneedling treatment on a surgical scar on my back 10 days ago. The scar is about a year and a half old. The treatment was pretty uncomfortable (even with local anesthesia) and my skin immediately got red and started to peel for about 3 days. I didn’t have much pain the first night but over the last few days my skin has felt really tight and almost like it’s pulling, if that makes sense. It is also still pretty red which is disappointing because the scar was fairly light thanks to laser treatments and scar gel. Is this normal post treatment? I don’t know what needle length was used but I followed all of the aftercare recommendations from my surgeon. Thanks!

2023.03.29 01:05 dexter5222 In-Flight Medical

Hey everyone,
I am crossing my fingers someone has a good way to go about this.
Anyways, I was on the SFO-JFK red eye a few days ago, paid for an upgrade to first (will make sense later).

2023.03.29 01:05 SensoryPrisoner Mourning Doves

I'm sure many of you are familiar with the sound of a mourning dove. Even if you don't know the bird by name, you've probably heard its cries at dawn and at the cusp of dusk: coo-OOH, coo... coo... coo...
Many of my childhood memories seem to have these birds in the background, whistling an accompanying soundtrack. Whether it was playing outside with friends at the park, or just chilling in my own backyard. Hell, I couldn't even escape it when I went inside on a hot summer day. The open windows gave the doves an involuntary audience.
As a kid I found their cries slightly annoying. I didn't even know if it was a bird making those noises, as dumb as that may sound. I was around 13 when my cousin pointed out a spotted beige pigeon on the neighbor's window ledge, ruffling its feathers. "Look! A mourning dove," she alerted me. We watched with interest for about 5 seconds before the bird's chest expanded and contracted, letting out that same mournful cooing I had become so accustomed to. "Hm, so that's what they're called." I made a mental note.
Since I moved out for college, I haven't heard the doves' song as often. I mostly just hear car engines, loud music, and other urban noise pollution. Can't complain, urban centers often come with such nuisances. But I have found myself missing the sound of nature on more than one occasion.
This is why last night, when I was working on yet another past-due assignment, I stopped typing instantly when I heard the sound of a mourning dove. Now, it was already unusual that I was hearing a mourning dove, but at nighttime? It was way past midnight, around 2:30 AM. I stopped and just listened in my chair. The singing went on -- coo-OOH, coo... coo...
After making sure I wasn't going insane, I got up and cracked the blinds to my bedside window. There, on the ledge, was a mourning dove. It had a beautiful cream-colored coat with a few black spots towards its tail. It didn't seem startled that a human was staring at it through an inch of glass. I made sure not to make any sudden movements as I observed. It jerked its head all around in classic bird fashion, before repeating the chorus to its sorrowful song. I watched it for a minute or so, listening to it cycle the same melody over and over. That was when the panic set in that I'm STILL not done my report, which was due at midnight, and I closed the blinds and hurried back to my computer.
I began writing a sentence when I heard a loud scream from outside. I got up and ran to the blinds again, yanking on the chain and letting the blinds fly upwards. The mourning dove was completely turned around, facing me through the window. In place of its little black peepers were bloodshot human eyes. It was staring back at me, completely still with pupils constricted. No cooing, nothing. I stood in shock, locking eyes with this dove while frozen in terror.
It felt like forever before the dove finally turned around and flew off into the night sky, at which point I dropped the blinds and speedwalked to the kitchen for some water. I paced back and forth taking sips of my water every few strides. What the hell was I just witness to? Though my heart was thumping like mad, I eventually rationalized that I was hearing and seeing things due to lack of sleep. I mustered up the courage to go back to my room and, keeping my gaze on the window, sat down slowly and began to type. After a paragraph or so of writing, I had returned to my state of flow and was solely focused on my paper.
Until I heard the cooing again. I looked at the desktop clock: 2:57 AM. What in the actual fuck. Jittering, I stood up slowly and walked over to the window. I used my fingers to split two blinds apart slowly, before stumbling back onto my ass. The dove was right up against the glass, looking at me with bloodshot eyes and baring a sharpened set of human-like teeth in its beak. I sat on the floor, staring at the exact spot in the blinds where I cracked them. "There's no way... this is not real, this CANNOT be real," I tried to convince myself.
I kept muttering to myself trying to get a grip, but I couldn't. I knew this was more than just drowsiness at this point. After a minute on the floor in total silence, I stood up and creeped to the bedroom door. I went out into my living room and just laid down on the couch, racking my brain for any logical explanation as to what I just experienced -- a fruitless endeavor. If anything, I went to bed more terrified of all the ways in which this dove was violating what I knew to be real.
I couldn't sleep all night, but I didn't have class in the morning. I lay there, thankfully not hearing any more sounds whatsoever, until about 7 AM. My eyes had grown so accustomed to staring at the dark ceiling that I noticed the sun bleeding its light in through the nearby kitchen window. I got out of bed, went to the bathroom to take a much-needed piss, and then walked back out. Before I could traverse the hallway to get back to the living room, the cooing started. Again.
At this point I pulled out my phone and opened up the keypad. I scrambled to enter 9-1-1 before catching myself. How the hell do I tell the cops that a fucking pigeon is threatening me? As the cooing went on, I put my phone back in my pocket and just listened. I was not going to make the same mistake that I had made last night: who knew how many more jump scares my body could take before shutting down on me?
I slowly sat back down on the couch, listening to the cooing. By this point my eyelids felt like they had weights attached to them, and I listened for a good few minutes before shutting my eyes for good. That is when the cooing turned into inhumane, rapid-fire shrieks: "CoO! COO! COo! COO! COO!"
It sounded like a dying man who just got into a car accident attempting to imitate a bird. The adrenaline got the better of me and I ran to the kitchen window at full speed before yanking the blinds up. There was an extremely skinny naked man dotted with beige feathers hanging off the ledge at my window, 15 stories up from the ground. His pupils were dilating and constricting back and forth in tandem with his cries. He locked eyes with me and started cooing louder before raising one of his arms to bang on the window. But his arm wasn't a human appendage -- his fingers spread out into long, thin bones that were bare at the end where his skin had ceased to cover them. His mouth was extremely malformed; his lips were torn off and in their place were solid extensions jutting out from the underlying bone. His tongue was long and his teeth were stained dark with what seemed to be blood. He started to peck at the window using his monstrous deformation of a mouth, keeping his eyes locked with mine the entire time. His neck inhumanely snapped back and forth to help him accomplish his goal. I didn't even move -- by this point I might as well have been looking through him due to the shock.
A loud shriek snapped me out of my trance as I looked down and watched the falling man get smaller and smaller. He fell straight into the bushes near the base of the building, and everything went dead quiet. I wouldn't stop staring at the bush for a good 5-6 minutes straight, making sure nothing crawled out of there. Regaining what little composure I could, I eventually shifted my attention to the several cracks in the glass, along with the micro stains of blood where his beak made contact.
At this point I ran hastily to my neighbor, knocking hard on the door. After no response, I called him, and he eventually opened the door in a groggy, half-awake state. I gave him a 20-second rundown of the insanity that just took place and convinced him to come back with me to my apartment to corroborate my story.
The window was flawless when we returned. Hell, it looked cleaner than it did before that whole fiasco went down. My neighbor told me to lay off the drinks or whatever else I was using as he stumbled out of my apartment, grumpy that I woke him up.
I woke him up? Did that fucking thing shrieking and banging on my window not make any noise? Where the hell did the cracks and blood in the window go? After a good hour of pointless deliberation, my body had had enough, and I KO'd on the living room couch. I woke up at around 5 PM earlier today, and the whole thing felt like a fever dream. I ordered some takeout and tossed Seinfeld on the TV, forgetting about what had happened mere hours prior.
That is, until I heard a mournful cooing coming from my bedroom window. It's now 9 PM and the cooing has been constant for the past 3 hours. I've become strangely used to it at this point, but I reckon that's just the shock and denial in me taking over. I'm looking for another place as I write this.

2023.03.29 01:04 Seib7290 2016 Jeep Cherokee “ParkSense Unavailable”

Been getting the above alerts for a little over a week now. Started when one night I started up and I got Service Parking Break and Service Transmission alerts. Turned the car off and started it again and those alerts went away, but the ParkSense one remained. The ParkSense Off Button stays on.
Well today I turned the key on, off, on, off and where my mileage usually shows it said “P Code” but it got rid of the alert and the light in the off button went out. The ParkSense seems to be back to normal now.
Did I magically fix it or did I create an even bigger problem?
