2023.03.20 23:00 Crazyvendetta04 Help find this movie please!
It's either an old Taiwanese movie or an old Hong Kong movie because I don't think China started making movies yet back then, but maybe I am wrong. This is an old erotic movie set in ancient China about a girl who was born in a brothel. I guess by law, she also had to enter the prostitution business like her mother, but she doesn't want to and instead learns all these other arts like calligraphy and poetry and etc. She is pursued by many but she instead falls in love with this poor scholar dude. He promises to come back and marry her since he had to go away for something. So she waits, but while she is waiting for him, there is this rich playboy suitor who wants to marry her and add her to his harem. She refuses to marry him and manages to avoid some of his traps, but in the end, her mother or the brothel manager helps the dude drug her and forces her to "marry" him. He basically forces her to stay at his place and does not allow her to leave, making her stuck. The scholar ends up coming back and goes to find her, but the villain drugs him and tricks him into sleeping with another girl under the villain. The main girl sees this and thinks that he cheated on her. But later on the other girl reveals to the main girl that it was all a set up by the villain. I forgot what happened next but she manages to escape the villain and reunites with her lover, but then a new official comes to town and captures the lover for some reason and he is tortured in jail. To save him, I think she agrees to sleep with the official and in the end, the lover is released and they finally get together. There is a little epilogue that says that she was successful in changing her fate to be a prostitute and they lived together happily ever after. I think that was how it ended. But yeah, if anyone knows this one, please let me know. I have been really curious what the actual name is.

2023.03.20 22:57 SteinerScoutLance 30 [M4F] ON/Canada/Online - Connect Four?! I’m just looking to connect with one!
Can I get a Monopoly on your time? Our meeting is an Elder Sign. Maybe we can Settle for Catan. Yahtzee! Sorry. It was worth the Risk.
Hey ladies! My name is Kevin, I’m thirty and looking to chat, connect with and hopefully form a long-term relationship with a lovely woman. I am very left leaning, non-religious, emotionally available and child free. I am not looking to rush into anything, or put expectations on anyone.
My ideal date would be either staying in with a nice meal, socializing over a game, movie or other shared activity, or visiting a local museum/art gallery. I’m very into giving (and receiving!) massages, and generally feel the most content when I can help my partner relax and enjoy themselves. Snowed in, cuddled up by the fireplace? Heaven!
Physically I’m a tall, chunky and bearded Caucasian guy; totally rocking the lumberjack/teddy beaSanta Clause physique! I am currently working on certification for work as a mental health mentor, while volunteering as a long-term or palliative care giver for foster cats. I currently have two very shy/scared fosters that are the last of 5 of their litter born outside to be properly socialized. I’m making progress, having even gotten the blessing to pet the torty’s belly, but everything is at their own speed!
My dream would be to open up an animal sanctuary that doubles as a therapy center for humans. I have an unbreakable love for animals, and faith in their ability to help us heal. I think seeing a battered, scarred or withdrawn animal come out of their shell, seeking love, attention and comfort is one of the most rewarding things on the planet.
Some other things I enjoy: - Tabletop (Board, Card, Miniature…) Gaming
- Trashy Reality TV
- Actually ‘good’ TV and Films (The Last of Us is so good!)
- Animals, obviously!
- A good mystery!

2023.03.20 22:57 boteva My story
Hi everyone,
I am a 44-year-old father of two amazing kids and husband to an amazing wife. I want to share my story with you, hoping that it can inspire guys like me.
My story began during my mother's pregnancy when my father hit her a couple of times, causing me to shiver inside her womb. My first childhood memories were of the hits I received from my cruel and brutal father. He worked in moving and weighed 240 pounds, making it even harder to endure. My mother was also subjected to his abuse, and one of the most traumatic events was when I saw him choke her when I was 10 years old, she almost died.
I suffered from this abuse throughout my childhood until I was 17 years old, including emotional abuse and neglect. After I joined the army, I almost shot him when he was very close to hitting me again. Only today do I understand how much stress and anxiety I experienced and still do.
Shortly after my army service, I developed an autoimmune disease called Myelitis , which caused me to use a wheelchair for a few weeks. After recovering, I started training again, doing gym workouts and running.
From 2001 to 2006, I worked in the center of Jerusalem, where terrorist attacks were frequent. I was close to most of them and to this day, I am hypervigilant from every loud noise. But I didn't let any of this stop me from becoming a better person. I started working in the high tech industry and became an expert and manager in my field. I also ran in 10km competitions, and in my late twenties, I met my wife. My traumatic childhood caused me a lot of problems in my relationships, but I am still married, and my wife still loves me, and I love her. I am lucky.
When I was 39 years old, another autoimmune attack came, and I was diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). It was even harder than the previous one, and I got a drop foot (100%). My hands also became very weak, and my whole body was affected. I was hospitalized for two months, and during this time, I got meningitis, causing me to lose 24 pounds.
During my hospitalization, I was diagnosed with two other autoimmune diseases - Hashimoto's (hypothyroidism) and Behçet's (the incomplete version). I was under high prednisone dosage (corticosteroid) - about 60 mg per day for more than a year, and I tapered down for three more years. For the first two years, I also did several cycles of Mabthera.
One week after my release from the hospital, I went back to work, managing my team and completing the internal data platform of my organization. At the same time, I got back to training, but it was awful. I couldn't even hold the pull-up bar, and my biceps were so weak that I couldn't do biceps curls of 8 pounds. I couldn't walk without a brace for my drop foot for almost four months. But I didn't give up. I started meditating, doing guided imagery, and using cannabis, which really helped me, especially with my mood and neuropathy. However, I stopped using cannabis last month as it stopped working and caused a lot of loops and paranoia.
About a year later my leg became better, as well as most of my body parts. It was very hard to train, but still, I kept grinding.
Throughout all this time, there has been one movie playing in my head - running the Jerusalem Marathon (10km). I ran it a few years back, and I can still remember every single meter of the course. Ever since that day, I have been imagining running it again someday.
During this time, I came across David Goggins and his first book, along with his Joe Rogan interview. I was incredibly inspired by his story, particularly given that he had suffered from domestic violence. I could relate to his struggles and hardships, and his success story motivated me to train harder. I have seen a great deal of progress since then, with improvements in my pull-ups (I am now able to do 16 reps), bicep curls (up to 36 pounds in each hand), and kettlebell exercises (using 16kg kettlebells for almost all exercises).
However, over the past year, I have been experiencing some sort of mental regression. Memories from my childhood and my insecurities have resurfaced, and I found myself in a deep depression. I was unable to think clearly and felt hopeless, my sleep was very poor (2-3 hours). Despite this, I continued to train. Eventually, I began psychotherapy and was diagnosed with CPTSD (complex post-traumatic stress disorder). Medications and therapy have helped me immensely, and although I still have my ups and downs, I am in a much better place mentally these days.
One month ago, I went to the park and started running while listening to one of Goggins' motivational videos. After running for about a mile, I began to consider quitting, but Goggins' voice continued to push me forward. As I passed the 5km mark, I heard him say: “Life ain’t about medals, ain’t about fucking certificates. It ain’t about houses, money, cars, fame, all that bullshit. It’s about scars. So when you get judged, you won’t get judged on your medals, you get judged on your scars. Those scars show your willingness to get to the side, They show your failures, they show your willingness to start from scratch. They show what you’re wanting to do, to go the distance, to see what you’re capable of. So make sure in life don’t be afraid to get scars.”
It touched my inner self and almost made me cry. I continued to run and eventually completed 10km, which was the first time in 7 years since I had last done it. It was then that I realized how much power was inside me.
After this experience, I decided to register for the Jerusalem Marathon. On the day of the race, I drove there with my wife. A few minutes before the race, she wished me well and “have fun” and I replied, "Honey, I'm not going to have fun here. I'm going into battle, and even if the sky falls, I won't stop running." As soon as the race began, I encountered many tough slopes on the course, as Jerusalem is built on mountains that are approximately 800 meters high. Despite the challenging track, I didn't give up, recalling every step from my imagination. I knew exactly how difficult it would be, but I never stopped running, not even for a second. Eventually, I completed the 10km race.
It was one of the most significant moments of my life, and I hugged my wife and thanked her for all her support. A few hours later, I emailed my neurologist and thanked him for his amazing treatment during the years. Many of my friends also sent their love. I had finally achieved my dream, and now I am going to create new ones.
This is my story, and I hope it will inspire and bring hope to others.
Stay hard!

2023.03.20 22:54 TimeToWumbo 28 [M4R] California/Anywhere Looking for people to chat with or play games with!
So I'm here looking to find someone who would want to spend some time together getting to know each other! I'm also just trying to pass the time at work since it's been a drag already and I'm working overtime today.
So I'll start with more information about myself. I am 28 years old living in California! Not a major city by any stretch of the imagination but it's a nice little town. I have a few pets a dog and two cats. I'm hoping to make 2023 the year I take control of my health fully and transition into a much healthier lifestyle. I also work full time currently and I'm exclusively work from home but I'm typically in meetings all day but I'mq able to text back and forth during my meetings.
Now that the general life stuff has been put out there. I'll take a bit more about the things I enjoy doing and my passions! My major hobby is playing games. I have a PC and a Switch as my main two ways if playing games. Lately I've been playing a lot of War zone and Master Duel I also play some FF14. I have been on a bit of a retro kick playing some older games as well. I also have Darktide but nobody to play with. I also dabble in League of Legends from time to time so there's that too. I also just have a ton of steam games so I'm happy to play any games if I have someone to play with.
I'm also quite an avid enjoyer of movies and shows! As far as movies go though I love the worst movies because they are just the most fun to watch and make fun of. I'm looking at movies like Troll 2 and the likes where they don't take themselves very seriously. So I'll definitely show you some of the worst movies ever made. I'm also an extra huge fan of the worst horror movies so anything that's terrible and horror is right up my alley. Although I do enjoy regular movies just as much like Tucker and Dale Vs Evil, Malignant, and old 70s and 80s horror movies. I will basically watch anything and enjoy most films. As for shows I mostly watch Netflix series that catch my eye like Ozark and I am planning on starting Wednesday today. I'm open to suggestions and I'd happily welcome someone along to watch with me! I also enjoy anime mostly have been sticking to older anime recently like Cowboy Bebop, Now and Then Here and There, Macross although I do watch newer series but not as often just anything that catches my eye. Recently it's been SpyxFamily and JoJo as well as Konosuba. I'm also very open to suggestions so just let me know and I'll give it a watch!
So yeah that mostly explains my hobbies I know they are of the more typical reddit variety. I also enjoy working on and building anything I can whether it be birdhouses or dog houses or really anything in between I'm always happy to try and build something. Although lately I haven't had the need to really build anything.
I definitely would like to find someone or people who would be interested in chatting or watching shows or even playing with me! I'm just a big fan of spending time with people just hanging out and chatting.
So if any of this sounds interesting to you please let me know! I have various platforms to chat on outside of reddit if the reddit messaging system isn't to your liking. I hope to hear from you soon and I hope you have a wondeful day or night!

2023.03.20 22:49 Historian_Little Stuck. Need help.
Hi, I'm trying my hand at writing a crime fiction novel- Guardly Gossip- Crumbs, crimes, & Apple pie.
The synopsis: Leo Thatch desperately wanted a vacation, life just has a funny sense of humor. After a freak kayaking accident sees him capsized he washes up...somewhere, far far stranger.
Stumbling about, he finds a small town, where secrets are as good as gold, and answers are rarely ever easy. No money to his name, he finds himself drafted into the local guard- between New friends, a gang of racist Gnomes, nearly getting lit on fire..twice, the insanity never sleeps.
Shadows, secrets, and shenanigans aplenty await..and maybe a bad pun or two.
Thoughts? I'm still brain storming but the baseline is basically Grimm fairy tales meets Training day- the movie.
Hope yall are well.

2023.03.20 22:46 Beginning-Month-8267 Fantasy/supernatural Boom I read when I was a teen
Hey hey, I read this book a couple of years ago and I keep thinking about it but I just can’t remember the name. I was one of those kids who liked shit like fablehaven/ Percy Jackson so I’m guessing it’s in an action/ fantasy kind of genre. Any help would be greatly appreciated:)) I’m also pretty sure it got turned into a series or a movie or smth, idk
Here are the few parts of it I remember: •a teen moves to one of their parents’ home town (I’m pretty sure it was a girl but it could’ve been a dude) •they go through lots of lil adventures and in one of the scenes, she finds out that the mayoress/Richest lady in town (or something like that), is kidnapping children and harvesting their nicest feature (eg. If you had gorgeous eyes she’d snatch em) • I also remember this part of the book where the teen and her friends jump from a lighthouse into the ocean, using a plank of wood to break their fall
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks and peace out y’all

2023.03.20 22:43 Jguy84 [M4F] X-Men Or DC RP Search
Hello! I’m a literate writer looking for literate and semi-literate partners.
As the ad says I’m looking for those open to running some fandoms! Below are my current cravings!
1: Marvel: -I’m looking to do some Marvel roleplays with romance, drama, and action!
Most importantly I am mostly versed in X-men, some Spider-man, the avengers and the midnight sons from the latest game.
I would love to write our own version of the X-men that is somewhere between the comic and the movies, or the shows even.
I mostly write male characters and I’m open to playing as heroes and villains both some of which: Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Sabretooth and Magneto.
I’d be down to try Professor X or some others as well. I’m looking for someone detailed and at least semi-active.
4: DC -Honestly wanting someone to roleplay as Wonder Woman for some ship roleplay and drama pairing her with maybe Superman or Nightwing.
This would be the same as the first idea, except more centered around the two characters and romance. I’d love some action too.
I’m also game for Catwoman but prefer Wonder Woman.
I interested at all hit me up so we can finalize and start something!

2023.03.20 22:43 Marc-Springfield Black Hawk Down is massively overrated
Ridley Scott's 2001 film Black Hawk Down, about the US special forces strike in Somalia, starring everybody and their bloody grandmother, is a mediocre war film and I couldn't believe my eyes when I went looking for threads tearing it apart... All I found was incredible praise, people saying it was the best war movie of the past thirty years, that it was as good as if not better than Saving Private Ryan, etc.
As I fought my way through the opening twenty to thirty minutes of bland dialogue, offensively American pre-Iraq war sentiment and worldview, and some janky accents by non-american actors, me and my wife looked at each other, agreeing that it was a rocky start, but that this alleged masterpiece, that everyone had so eagerly recommended, just had to get into gear...
But here we are. The straw that broke the camel's back was the scene in which the apparently animalistic, savage african stereotypes are violently undressing and parading the dead bodies of the American soldiers around...
It's been a very long time since i turned off a film midway through. I don't even remember the last one that made me do it. But the pacing was not exhilarating; instead, it seemed to make the events almost laughable. The bland performances from several of the actors, many of whom I love in other things, dragging down perfectly decent performances from others... The excessive, janky cutting making the film seem almost choppy at times, action scenes being reduced to a hundred different clips.... So many actions that hardly make any sense, people going out into the open at the strangest times, unrealistic things happening left right and center, horrible dialogue... I'm getting tired now, but i want to write so much more, but can't find the words at this late hour...
The are so many better depictions of war made in the modern era... Band of brothers, the Pacific, Saving private ryan, Fury, letters from iwo jima, All quiet on the western front, Hacksaw Ridge, Dunkirk, 1917 (perhaps the best of them all?), Beasts of no nation, thin red line... Yes, most of them are about the first and second world wars but the quality of the films are what I'm comparing, not the time they are set in..
Knowing that Black hawk down was a pre-iraq war film makes a lot of sense... The pride of the American military... The arrogance. There's a scene at start where Hartnett's character is made fun of for believing that Somalians are human beings and should be treated as such, but the people making fun of him are not portrayed as bad people by the movie. Instead, it makes it seem like Hartnett is just naive... Anyway, the whole film just comes off as a piece of propaganda, even though the whole operation was a massive fuck up..
Maybe it's me... Maybe it's just an unpopular opinion.. But I really thought it must be the most overrated film I've ever heard of or seen. But I'm sure you disagree.

2023.03.20 22:33 APoisonousMushroom Was handgun concealed carry ever popular in the US during or prior to the Old West/American frontier days?
In Old West movies and TV, you never see anyone drawing a pistol from concealment, i.e. carrying a pistol in a hidden holster on your person (under a shirt, say). Outside of possibly a derringer-style 2-shot pistol that you see depicted as a pocket gun (or even on a
mechanical sleeve holster if you're James West), the only 'hidden' guns I can recall depicted in old west shows were in purses carried by women.
In pre-modern times in the US, was it basically always the case that you could tell just by looking at someone if they were armed or not because they were open carrying a pistol? If so, why? Wouldn't you want the element of surprise to be on your side if you were in a remote frontier town rife with crime, etc.?

2023.03.20 22:23 maximusaemilius Fear and humanity. Man does not fear life or death, he fears his own mind and what might hide in the dark.
Fear... I think it would be safe to say that it is the one universal emotion across the galaxy. For most of us, fear is a means to an end: a simple mode of survival, but for humans... Well fear is something more. For us fear comes in situations where we might die, and that's it. The only thing we fear is the loss of life before our time is up. Humanity... Humanity fears implication. Sure humans experience fear in life or death situations, but sometimes they don't. Humans will jump from planes, play with fire, and swim deep under the crushing weight of water well over three to four times the pressure of their own gravity. They will tie ropes to their ankles and then jump off of high places. I don't think I have ever seen a human that was truly afraid, or at least not overtly... Not until today anyway. Sure, humans fear death, but they fear implications more. Life or death situations are hardly an issue when you have your own imagination to fear. Humans are a strange species that can leap from the sky for a thrill, but alone in the darkness and safety of their own homes, they conjure up things to fear in the dark. They see shadows out of the corners of their eyes and reflections in mirrors at their backs. They fear the implication of things that are unseen. Believe me, the human mind is a horror house of personal torture. Just watch their movies, and I promise you that some of the scariest ones to humans, do not involve natural disaster, life or death, or even dangerous killers, but they do involve the unexplainable, the uncontrollable. Those things that hide unseen in the dark and infect the mind like an insidious disease. Man does not fear life or death, he fears his own mind and what might hide in it's dark recesses. […]
"Get everything locked up, we do not want to be out here after dark."
The commander ordered, pushing through a thick strand of deep purple foliage, and out into a large-circular clearing where three of their shuttles stood, surrounded by that day's camping supplies, and a group of waiting marines.
They stood as the second team of marines trudged their way from the bushes covered in dirt, slime, and sweat from their day's work.
"Break it all down and get it back inside."
The commander ordered.
Krill, who had been waiting in camp with the marines, floated over to absently eye the marines as if for scratches scrapes and bruises.
Sunny, having problems to navigate the dense foliage with her height and her carapace, was the last to break through the trees, hauling her bulk over a mossy stone and onto the strange purple moss of the clearing.
She opened her four-pronged mouth and snorted a leaf from her face,
"Why in such a hurry, commander? Afraid of the dark?"
Her voice was playful, but the expression he shot her was serious.
She stopped,
"No, not the dark, but what might be hiding in it."
He began, locking their food away into the climate-controlled lock boxes,
"Plus, the last group of colonizers that tried to settle on this place ran screaming after just one night. According to the Galactic Assembly science teams, there was nothing particularly dangerous about this planet. On the first scans they found no big animals, be it herbivore or carnivore, just some smaller species. So, they have no clue what could have scared the settlers off. The UNSC wants to know what's up. The report had something to do with a “mimic”… Now I'm not sure what that means, the civilians were to shaken up to talk, but they seemed adamant that it was important NOT to go outside after dark, and I am not in the habit of ignoring warnings."
Sunny nodded a tiny bit apprehensive.
Whatever could have made a human run screaming was not something she particularly wanted to deal with.
Krill was as skeptical as ever,
"Probably just some strange planetary creature, no big deal. They probably saw it, assumed it was some sort of folk monster and worked themselves up enough to run away."
Commander Vir didn't say anything, but didn't look like he agreed.
Then again, he was known heavily as the kind of man that liked to give people the benefit of the doubt.
They got the camp packed up, just as the star was beginning to set in the north (the planet had a strange rotation, relative to its magnetic field), and Commander Vir made sure his marines had entered the shuttles and closed the door, remaining the last one before coming into the third shuttle and closing the door behind him.
Two other marines were watching the monitors in the cockpit, so he took a seat on his bedroll next to where Sunny sat by the wall, idly tracing one of her four claws through the striations on the floor.
Krill floated not too distantly, listening to the sound of idle conversation.
Sunset came and went, and nothing on the camera peaked the marine's interest.
They left one person on watch for that night while the other came back to select a bedroll and get some sleep.
Commander Vir and Sunny were out like lights, back-to-back with each other in the tropical warmth of the planet's midnight atmosphere.
It hardly seemed like a bad place to settle down.
Even Krill had dropped into his half-meditative trance, still partially aware of what was going on around him.
[…]
”…”
”Adaaaaaaam…”
”…”
”I’m all alone. Lost in the dark…”
”Mommy, I hear crows!”
”Is someone there?”
”There is something in the bushes…”
"Adam!"
”ADAM!!!”
Commander Vir jolted away in a cold sweat, looking around for where the voice had originated.
OH NO!
Everyone else was still asleep.
He shook himself a little.
No, it can’t be… That was strange, for a second he thought that maybe the infected starborn, the mindreading aliens he had to deal with some months before had returned to take over his mind, but... starborn couldn't survive on the face of a planet...
And he would have sworn that voice was the voice of a child.
He rubbed his eyes, stood and moved into the cockpit where one of the marines was still watching the cameras,
"Anything?"
He muttered, but the marine shook his head.
He was just opening his mouth to say something when…
”Something is out there… it knows what we are afraid of…”
*Silence*
Adam and the Marine looked at each other, both keenly aware that none of them had said something.
”…”
”…”
But they both knew they heard someone talk…
The voice they had heard came from the outside.
And then another sound came, this time not stopping, but going on, able to be heard through the walls of the shuttle…
A baby began to cry just outside the shuttle door.
The marine leaped to his feet eyes wide,
"What the hell!?
”HOLY FUCK!”
His startled voice caused everyone else in the compartment to wake up.
"Adam."
Commander Vir turned in a wild circle to face the wall behind him.
Of course, he couldn't see anything, because the voice had been just on the other side, like a small child pressing their mouth to the metal, whispering.
A few more of the marines had stood up, eyes turned to the hatch with the sound of the crying baby still echoing through the metal, slightly muffled by the door.
One of the marines got to his feet and reached for the handle, but commander Vir caught him,
"NO... that's not a baby marine. We are the only people on this planet."
The marine turned to look at him eyes wide with concern,
"But, sir maybe it's one of the settlers?”
"They may not have been coherent, but they would have told us if they were missing a baby."
"Adam, Adam, Adam..."
As the voice repeated it plunged from the high chirp of a child deeper and deeper into a demonic growl.
”I’ll help you. Follow my voice!”
"Adam!"
Something slammed against the side of the shuttle.
”I’m coming to help, where are you? I can’t see you. I…can’t… see… YOU!”
The marines yelled out in alarm.
Commander Vir jumped back.
Something skittered and clawed at the metal outside.
More voices joined in whispering pleading.
Voices rose and fell, more often than not, mimicking the sound of children.
Sunny was up now and found herself at the center of a group of humans, who had backed themselves into a circle in the middle of the shuttle eyes wide.
The sounds died away for a few moments, leaving them in the deep silence of the forest.
Then there was a knock on the door…
"Daddy... Daddy, let me in, I'm scared... Help me."
One of the marines turned his wide-eyed face to the commander and then back to the door,
"Jamie."
A hand clamped around his shoulder,
"No, marine, that isn't who you think it is."
"Daddy... Daddy please help me."
The knocking turned to a frantic banging then a thudding,
"Daddy please, something is coming!"
The sound of a small body throwing itself against the door repeated over and over and over again.
The marine's face was streaked with tears, but he held his ground.
However, as they listened, the sound of thudding grew louder and louder.
The shuttle rocked violently.
A child could not have had the strength to do that.
The marines cowered back against each other, weapons pointed towards the hatch.
The voices faded, turning themselves back into gibbering whispers.
Whispering died away, replaced by the sound of something rushing through the trees.
*Thud thud thud*
On the pad of feet.
It's movements were unholy.
It's feet or hands, whatever they were, were soft, and something dragged behind it.
Pad, pad scrape, pad pad, scrape.
"Let me in."
The voice was loud and sudden, emanating from about knee height and right behind them.
A girl's voice, throat torn and ragged, from fire...
…
Or from screaming.
The marines yelped and turned to the corner, where something now scratched against the metal.
Commander Vir was the first to voice what all the humans were thinking,
"Fuck this, let's get out of here."
With that, he rushed into the cockpit, giving a cursory glance to the cameras, but seeing nothing.
Engaging the coms system he opened a line to the other shuttles,
"Bravo, Charlie, this is Alpha leader ordering an immediate launch, do you copy?”
*Static*
*Silence*
”…”
For a horrifying moment, it seemed as if they wouldn't answer, but then two voices crackled over the line, breathless and hopeful, filled with their agreement.
Commander Vir engaged the launch sequence as the other marines strapped themselves in.
Krill and Sunny looked around the cockpit in confusion, hardly understanding what was going on.
Sure, there was something creepy outside, but it was outside and obviously couldn’t get in…
They had never seen the human's cut and run so fast before.
And they Cut and run as fast as they possibly could, making it out of atmosphere in record time.
[…]
Back aboard the ship, only the graveyard skeleton crew was there to meet them, surprised and worried to find three teams of frightened, bedraggled marines, and their more than paranoid commander eyeing the shadows in newfound paranoia.
Krill watched from the side confused.
Sunny looked on in worry.
What was wrong with their humans?
The skeleton crew got to work, packing up the gear, allowing the marines to return to the crew quarters for a rest. Commander Vir followed, but paused in the long hallway up to the captain's quarters, glancing back at Sunny.
She was about ready to head down the hall to her room when he spoke,
"You know... Um maybe it is best if... If maybe, we set up a watch for-for tonight. I mean just to make sure nothing ended up hitching a ride or... Or something."
Sunny looked at him in surprise,
"But captain, space..."
"Yeah yeah... I know, I mean... Just in case, but like in the rec room... Where we have light, and space to fight... If we have to."
She tilted her head at him, but finally nodded in agreement.
She had never seen such a look of relief on anyone's face before, and together they made their way to the rec room, set up one of the couches and began their "watch.".
A watch that simply turned into Adam leaning against her arm and promptly falling asleep.
She rolled her eyes a little, and was about to do the same when…
*THUD*
A thud echoed to her from down the hallway.
She opened her eyes, suddenly awake and alert, ready for some creature to come around the corner, but instead one of the marines poked his head in,
"Er... do you guys, you know... need help?”
Sunny looked down at the sleeping commander and sighed,
"The more the merrier I suppose."
"Oh... ok... I guess I can help."
He walked over, selected a beanbag, pulled it up to her feet, and immediately followed his commander's lead.
Sunny sighed and closed her eyes, not even bothering to open them when the next set of footsteps moved up the hall,
"Yes... we are on watch, and yes, obviously we need your help."
This marine took the other side of the couch.
By the end of a half hour span Sunny sat lording over a room full of uneasily sleeping humans, and she idly wondered if this is what it would have been like to have a brood of her own.
However, since she wasn't likely to ever experience that, she would happily protect these ones from the dark.
[…]
Other species don't mind the mimics so much. However, for some reason they have a profound impact on humans. My theory is that, like the starborn they have some ability in telepathy, and because of this, they have complete access to the one thing that humans fear most: Their own imagination

2023.03.20 22:18 Tight-Page-5192 If I wanted to hire a hacker to find a lost relative or catch a cheating spouse, is it better than hiring a private investigator?
Should I Hire a Private Investigator to Help to find a lost relative or catch a cheating spouse
When we think about private investigators, most of us imagine something out of a movie: The private investigator sits in his car, chomping a sandwich and smoking a cigar while he tries to catch a cheating spouse and lover in a clandestine embrace. But is this the way it is in real life? Yes and no.
How a Private Investigator Might Help
Private investigators are often hired to Help to find a lost relative or catch a cheating spouse, and they can be very helpful for a variety of reasons. However, more often than not, the evidence they collect is more circumstantial than what you see in the movies. When the case involves extramarital affairs, the couples are usually discreet enough that the film is PG-rated at best. Still, every P.I. has stories of catching people in the act and capturing some very private, revealing moments on film.
The Illusion of Privacy
Most people close the blinds unless they’re on an upper floor in a building where they believe they can’t be seen from the ground. But what if a private investigator manages to take video from an upper floor in the building across the street? If a house is in a secluded area, the spouse who has hired the private investigator can give the P.I. permission to walk onto the grounds of the house. The illusion that the lovers can’t be seen because of the seclusion of the house is just that; an illusion. The investigator can easily record their activity through the windows.
Example One: Video Recording In one case, a male client knew his wife was having an affair, but the investigator hadn’t been able to get any real evidence. So, the P.I. suggested that the client go on a short trip. It wasn’t long after the client went out of town that a strange car appeared at the house. The P.I. called the client and asked him to come back to town, after which the client and P.I. entered the house together and retrieved the client’s gun.
They could hear the wife and her lover in a downstairs bedroom, but the door was locked. The investigator stood by with the gun visible on his hip and a video camera in his hand while the client removed the door to the room and yanked the bed covers off of his wife and lover. The investigator had rehearsed with the client what to say because it was important that he not threaten his wife’s lover in any way. Needless to say, this relationship ended in divorce, and the investigator’s film was instrumental in the husband’s case.
Example Two: Setting Your Spouse Up to Admit Guilt In another situation, a male client was able to intercept his wife’s emails and learn that she was seeing a man who was arriving in town the next evening. She told her husband that she was going out with the girls, but when the investigator followed her, she ended up at a hotel. He observed her coming out of the hotel with her boyfriend, and while they were gone in the boyfriend’s car, the client moved his wife’s car from the parking lot. The investigator contacted the police to let them know that even if the car was reported stolen, it wasn’t actually stolen. Of course, if the wife reported the car stolen, she would have to admit that she had parked it in a hotel parking lot.
When the wife returned and frantically looked for her car, the client drove up in a van and threw all of her clothes onto the ground. He had gathered them in garbage bags just for this purpose. She was now officially caught and could no longer deny her affairs.
Example Three: Workplace Monitoring In another case, an employer was related to the spouse of an employee who was suspected of having an affair with a coworker. The employer hired an investigator to place a hidden video camera in the office, which caught the married employee and lover having sex numerous times during the day. So, this couple was not only guilty of avoiding work, but they were committing acts of illicit sexual behavior
Most of the time, people have affairs with just one person that they’ve met at work. This is why the first question an investigator usually asks a client is: Where does your spouse work, and who works with your spouse? Investigators say it’s much less common for a married person to pick up several lovers in bars or to be caught involved in prostitution. But it certainly isn’t unprecedented.
Example Four: Following Someone In one case, it was discovered that a man had placed a profile on a dating website, stating that he was separated. He began dating women in the area, and the investigator was surprised to find the man out with different women on different evenings. Eventually, the man picked up a woman at a bar and engaged in a sexual act with her in his car in a parking lot. The private investigator was able to shoot video of the couple through the window of the car.
Avoid Hiring Friends to Watch Your Spouse
What if someone asks a friend to follow the spouse or place a wiretap on the spouse’s telephone? This is a recipe for disaster. First of all, wiretapping is illegal a violation of both federal and state law. There are trespassing and harassment laws as well that the average person might not understand, so a friend could be criminally prosecuted for making an inadvertent mistake. Besides criminal charges, the injured parties could take the friend/amateur investigator to court for monetary damages.
Even if the friend stays within the law, a non-professional is much more likely to tip off the party who is being followed. Once the spouse knows they’re being watched, obtaining evidence is next to impossible. This mistake can be costly since private investigators generally charge by the hour. Tipping off the spouse may require considerably more time on the part of the professional investigator, resulting in added cost. One private investigator likens it to getting an estimate on a malfunctioning transmission only to go home and take the transmission apart. When you have to return the transmission to the mechanic in dozens of pieces, the estimate will be higher because it will take the mechanic longer to put the mess back together again.
When Should a Private Investigator Be Hired?
Even if there is nothing more than a suspicion of something amiss in the marriage, consulting with an hacker is a good idea. If the matter ends up in court, the evidence gathered by the P.I. is much more likely to be admissible in the case if it has been gathered with the guidance and direction of an hacker.
Some people believe they can confront their spouse and find a way to work on the marriage. While this is certainly a possibility, if the cheating party is unwilling to work on the marriage, it’s helpful to have the evidence before the confrontation takes place

They can provide love, and companionship, and even help children learn about responsibility. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 4.5 million people in the United States are bitten by dogs yearly, and about 1 in 5 of those bites become infected. As parents, it’s essential to teach your children how to interact safely with pets. Here are some tips for keeping kids safe around animals: Teach Children to Respect Animals Children must understand that pets are living beings with their own personalities and feelings. Teaching your children to respect animals is the first step in keeping them safe around pets. It’s important to teach children not to hit, poke, or pull on pets, as these actions can be perceived as aggressive and lead to an attack. Additionally, children should not attempt to take food or toys away from pets. Supervise Interactions Young children should always be supervised when interacting with pets. Even the friendliest pets can become aggressive if provoked or threatened. Children should be taught not to approach unfamiliar dogs or cats without an adult present. Furthermore, if a pet seems agitated or uncomfortable, it’s best to remove the child from the situation immediately. Teach Children to Ask for Permission Teaching children to ask for permission before approaching or petting a pet is crucial. This can help prevent accidents and ensure that the pet is comfortable with the interaction. Even if the pet is familiar, it’s still essential to ask permission before petting them. Children should be taught to approach pets calmly, with their hand extended, allowing the pet to sniff them before attempting to pet them. Teach Children to Be Calm Pets can be sensitive to loud noises and sudden movements. Children should be taught to approach pets calmly and to avoid screaming, yelling, or running around them. Additionally, children should be taught to give pets space when they are eating or sleeping. Teach Children to Wash Their Hands Finally, it’s crucial to teach children to wash their hands after interacting with pets. This can help prevent the spread of germs and bacteria. Additionally, children should be taught not to touch their face or mouth after handling pets. While teaching children how to interact safely with pets can significantly reduce the risk of injuries, accidents can still happen. If you or a loved one has been injured by a pet, it’s essential to seek the guidance of a personal injury attorney experienced in handling these types of cases. An attorney can help you understand your legal rights and options and guide you through the process of seeking compensation for your injuries. Hilton & Somer, LLC: Dog Bite Attorneys located in Fairfax and licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland and in the District of Columbia At Hilton and Somer, we understand the devastating impact that pet-related injuries can have on victims and their families. 2023.03.20 22:02 Forward-Shoulder-367 Skateboarding Nonprofit
Hi, everyone. Just trying to spread the word about the nonprofit I helped to create. We’re called Gift Skateboarding, and our official mission is to provide safe and accessible spaces and programs centered around skateboarding.
To translate that mission to more practical terms, we’ve built a free indoor skatepark that is open to the public, seven days a week. We use this park to do weekly free group lessons, and we make free loaner boards and safety gear available to anyone that may need it. We’re currently serving around 100 kids and adults each week at our first location in a small Western Kentucky town. We hope to eventually expand this model across the country.
Check it out and shoot us an email if this is something you’d like to see in your area!

2023.03.20 22:02 immortalis88 Equipment matters
I know it’s obvious, but I wanted to share my story.
I’ve owned an entry level Paradigm 7.1 system for over 23 years. Music sounded wonderful, but as many experience in their own setups, dialogue was weak during movies. We would always have to turn it way up…then some explosion would happen and damn near blow our eardrums 🤣
Well, at the end of last year I decided to go ahead and start a complete system overhaul, beginning with the center channel. This will ultimately be ‘my final system’ so I’m not cheaping out - and since I’m 44 and we’ll into my career, I can afford to step my game up much higher than I did with my original system.
My original setup was a mix-matched system consisting of Monitor and Cinema series speakers, including a 10” sub. Over the years I’ve powered it with different Sony and Onkyo receivers - most recently being an Onkyo TX-NR696. I never knew that when manufacturers advertise their watts per channel that it was only for 2 channels driven. So up until somewhat recently I always thought I was getting 100 watts to all 7 speakers… 🤦♂️
When deciding what to upgrade to, I was so happy with my Paradigm experience I went back to them. I saw the Founder Series and began researching and liked everything that I was reading. Although not their top-of-the line offering (which was WAY out of my price range), they definitely weren’t cheap. I decided to give them a try and see how much of a difference this level of speaker made in my room.
I got the 90C from a local dealer who gave me 10% off a display model. When I got it home and cabled up, I threw on a movie and was immediately pleased at the clarity of the dialogue. Music was substantially fully and I was pleased. So I decided to continue with building out a Founder Series set. Next up was the L/R channels to finish the front stage and I pulled the trigger on the 120H towers. I found an out-of-state dealer that could take better care of me than the local guy, and although I got a great deal…I never thought I would spend this much money on speakers in my life. This hurt the bank account…
The 120’s came in and I hooked them up…holy shit. Going from a set of Studio V3 bookshelves to these was a MASSIVE step up. I couldn’t wait to put them through the paces with Ford Vs Ferrari, Edge of Tomorrow etc. Music sounded crystal clear and effortless at high volumes. I was pleased.
Next I was going to do the sub. However after talking with my new dealer he told me the biggest upgrade I could do for my system wasn’t any specific or set of speakers - it was to get rid of the Onkyo and upgrade my receiver. I was skeptical and talked myself in and out of an AVR upgrade multiple times. I mean, how much better could a next level AVR actually make my system sound over my trusted Onkyo? But he convinced me it should be my next step, and eventually I listened.
I was going to wait but there was a sale recently at Anthems website for their AVRs and processors so I jumped on it and scooped up an MRX1140. I figured this will give me access to 16 channels and let me grow into a large ATMOS setup over time along with the ability to go 8k when prices eventually become reasonable.
The MRX provides 130w of amplification for 5 channels driven and 60w to the remaining channels. When this thing arrived and I hooked it up….Holy Fucking Shit!
This AVR woke these speakers up to a level I didn’t even know was possible. I FaceTimed my wife and I was just laughing - I told her about my experience and how stupid I felt. When she came home I played a song for her that she’s heard multiple times already on the new speakers and she goes “Oh my God!”
It was so loud. My house was shaking like never before. And again, I just began to laugh uncontrollably. Now I’m working my way back through all the movies and music I watched and listened to while testing out the new speakers 🤣
Now the sub will be next (most likely with Christmas bonus money cause I’m still paying off the 120’s for a bit, lol)
I never knew what I was missing out on by using an entry level AVR.
TLDR: the level of gear you purchase makes a huge difference.

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

2023.03.20 21:49 SouthParkiscool I've been traveling to different realities for six years. Help me. (Part 3)
Part 2 I fell backwards through the portal, landing on the ground back in the reality of hell. The dread spiked as I got back up on my feet. I thought the two blond maniacs would follow me back in, but they didn't. The portal closed, offering me a view of somebody crying over the phone on their porch across the street. Did they notice the flash of light? They're probably too caught up in their own business. The attacks being as gruesome as they are, I'm surprised I haven't died yet.
I stepped back into the house and closed the door behind me. William and Jason sit on the couch, faces pale and mouths hanging open as they watched helicopter footage of wild tentacle creatures running down streets and tackling people. A tighter dread overtook me.
Was this really it for me? Was I going to die here because my parallel self thought revenge would somehow fix things? Do I think that way? No, I don't. If she thought nobody should feel trapped, she wouldn't have been okay with making me feel trapped. I guess that's because he only cares when she's the one feeling trapped. People are human to her until they do something she doesn't like, then she lowers her standards and treats them like animals… Somehow that's supposed to make peace. It doesn't.
I asked Jason if there was a room I could stay in. I was given a spare bedroom down the hallway. Once I found it, I layed down on the bed and stared at the ceiling, hoping I'd be alive for more than another 24 hours. Any moment, some creature was probably going to crash through the window or something, or a giant monstrosity was going to smash the house to the ground. I had never been more afraid of death in my life.
About 20 minutes later, I decided I had to distract myself from all the mayhem and fear in any way possible. I pulled out William's spare phone and Googled various things I was interested in. I assumed TikTok would be filled with video clips of the attacks, so I wasn't downloading that. I watched some YouTube videos though. My adrenaline decreased, but I knew that if I ran out of things to enjoy, I would get bored and the adrenaline would shoot back up.
I'm not sure I'd say putting autoplay on was a mistake. It kinda was, but it kinda led to something interesting for me. The third video to play automatically was a video of a news report from the day the attacks began.
It started with Ontario politicians answering questions from reporters, then the Breaking News animation flashed across the screen. A video taken in Sharon, Ontario showed one of the giants moving down a street, smashing houses along its way. The uncanny look of the thing and how it moved sent chills down my spine. I tapped the screen. The title appeared on the screen.
"First news reports of the giant attacks - Full news broadcast 11 AM to 12:30 PM"
This was the very first attack. Interesting. Morbid curiosity overtook me. The attacks were historical, and if I was going to die here, why not know more about what's going to kill me.
I kept watching. Video footage taken from the Newmarket Community Center was played. It showed two giants smashing buildings down Main Street. The white church blew up, with debris flying all around. The buildings to the south were also reduced to rubble and dust. It was saddening to watch. As the giants began smashing buildings beside the Community Center, the camera operator let out a shaky "Oh my god" then backed away. They aimed to their left. A dozen of the bystanders were slowly turning away. As if they wanted to run but were too curious. A couple of them ran. A few other people from up the street ran by with pale faces. After the giants had passed by and smashed the buildings further to the south, some people in the crowd began to have a conversation.
"What is going on today…? why is this happening…?"
"We don't know why they're doing this… have they been reported elsewhere?"
"I checked the news five minutes ago. Nothing."
"I'm checking it again… nothing"
"I just checked CP-2-4 and they have footage of one in East Gwillimbury"
As they're talking, the giants smash the churches to the south, then they knock down the grey apartment building. Explosions can be seen inside as it crumbles and a plume of smoke rises up.
The next video I watched was of the two giants knocking the apartment building down but from an angle to the south based on what I knew about the location.
The next video began with the camera pointed to the ground. The camera was aimed up and a bit shaky. The camera was aimed at two giants standing a mile away. Flames were thrown at an area obscured by trees. This is Aurora, isn't it? I guessed it was since it was the first of two places to be torched. The giants torched side to side then back and forth, then the trees obscuring the area caught fire. The camera operator turned around and ran without hesitation.
Another video was taken near the Burlington Skyway Bridge. Two giants knocked the bridge down from north to south. My gut clenched watching cars fall into the water below.
As terrifying these videos were, it was interesting to see the beginning of the attacks this close. The news mostly only played footage taken from news helicopters and the same bits of footage over and over. Many of the videos I had seen on the internet so far were videos I hadn't seen yet.
I looked up videos of the attack on Central Manhattan.
One video was taken from a window somewhere to the east of the Empire State Building. One of those horrifying giants seamlessly smashed its way through the skyscrapers, leaving expanding plumes of smoke behind. Once it reached the Empire State, it focused a ton on smashing it to the ground. A plume of smoke rose up against the oncoming plumes of smoke created by the destruction of the nearby buildings.
I had seen many things like this over my journey throughout the different realities, but this just seemed too familiar to me. Nothing about this reality was different until the attacks began. Not even some detection of the Godzilla-like giants beforehand. I'm in this reality where these attacks are happening and I can't escape. I sank in a pit of dread as that dawned on me. I had to deal with the craziness of the I was in. I needed to learn as much about the attacks as possible.
I looked up a more recent attack. The one in Bradford parallel me mentioned. I found multiple videos of it. The first video I watched showed a giant leveling a two story facility as people ran by and screamed. It was sad to see a place I was so familiar with be destroyed. The second video was shaky camera footage of two giants leveling some other facility, also with people running by and screaming. One was crying. The third video was helicopter footage of four giants smashing and attacking the town. Carving up the southeastern and northern areas. As sad as I felt, I noticed they didn't attack the part of town I lived in.
Wasn't that attack supposed to kill me? Or was it just supposed to scare me? Either way, I wasn't there to witness it. Of course, I could've been killed in a part of the town that was destroyed. Maybe my parallel self was playing coin toss. Either I live or die. Either way, he'd be benefited by the fact I would be fearing for my life in the event I'd survive. Then he visited me where I was miles away, after the attack on the town. He brought his cronies with him. The evil alternate versions of two people I knew of and liked very much. I'm still not comfortable specifying who.
As I continued my watch through the footage, I found some videos of the creature dump on the place I was just in. Watching the giants pour the creatures onto the city… the creatures running all over the place… down roads… across the roofs of buildings… through parks… just chill inducing and gut wrenching. I couldn't get through one whole video. Flashbacks of escaping that thing just kept popping up in my head as I watched.
I looked up some discussion threads about the attacks. Of course, everyone expressed how they didn't know what they would wake up to the next day, how they didn't know where they would be safe… some speculated hiding out in the mountains or down in subways would be a safe bet to stay alive. The subway part of the discussion was shot down later on in the thread by one claiming the creature dumps would render that idea hopeless. Others said bomb shelters would work. I needed to know if there were any bomb shelters around. Probably useless though, as the government probably wouldn't just let anybody in. The closest mountain that could keep anyone safe would be 4 hours away. There was another comment though, one that brought up Iran and Belgium being wiped off the map entirely by dozens of miles wide giants, and they suggested any country could be next to be destroyed by giants that size. The middle of the ocean would be a safer bet.
What about Lake Ontario? The eastern half of it. It's not an ocean but it's a pretty big body of water. As long as I don't go near any shoreside cities I'll be good. I ran over to William and asked him if he had a boat. I explained to him eastern Lake Ontario may be too big a body of water for the giants to care about. Unfortunately, he, nor Jason, nor anybody they knew had a boat. At least I had some relief for a moment. I fell back into the pit of dread and walked back to the spare bed.
As I browsed through Reddit, I came across a post about a rare angle of the attacks. The video was taken from a live stream that was held in a suburban area not too far away from where the giants were standing. Chills overtook me, seeing the giants again. They were holding their giant bags of creatures. The streamer said he didn't know what the giants were holding, then the giants tilted their bags and the thousands of creatures came raining down. My gut clenched hard. The last words of the streamer were what one would expect, but they chilled me due to the context.
"What the hell? No… god… please…"
He turned around and sprinted down the road. He aimed the camera up at the incoming creatures. They blocked the view of the sun and everything was darkened by shade. The streamer aimed the camera back out in front of him. You could see the sky on the horizon, but then a wall of blackness obscured it. My gut began to ache. The streamer fell to the ground and screamed. Nothing could be seen. Loud thuds were heard, then the stream ended. Then the video ended.
The people in the comments were freaked out. Many of them mentioned the chills they got watching the video. One comment thread went like this:
"I can't imagine standing there. Thinking you'll live, then just seeing that and KNOWING with great certainty you're about to die. Chilling. This is probably the most up close video I've found of this."
"I know more videos will surface, especially because the attacks are still going on right now, but this video will be something that always sticks with me"
(I pressed the link and it took me to a YouTube video showing a livestreamer in an office. She tells her viewers she's in the Empire State Building. She aims her camera out the window towards Central Park.
"It's 1 PM right now and…" A giant pops up in the middle of Central Park. I jumped while watching it. Chills ran straight down my spine. "What the hell is that?" The giant walked south, smashing through the buildings along Park Lane. It knocked down the world's skinniest skyscraper, then it smashed its way through some more buildings, including the Museum of Modern Art.
"Oh my god," the streamer says with a shaky weak voice.
She puts the camera down and you could hear quick footsteps and the creak of a door being swung open. The giant continues its straight faced rage through Central Manhattan, smashing down the Rockefeller buildings, the East Times Square buildings and battering Times Square in dust and smoke, then it stumbles a couple blocks to the east. A man over the intercom tells everybody to evacuate immediately.
The giant smashes the low rise buildings two blocks away, the low rise buildings one block away, then the room shakes. Loud crashes echo from below, along with light crashes somewhere behind the camera. Then the office light goes out. It looks as if the giant is rising, but then you can see its triangles, then the sky. The section of the building the room was in was falling. The camera started spinning, then the livestream ended. Then so did the video.)
"Absolutely terrifying. Imagine that being the last thing you see… this stuff going on right now is probably the worst, most insane stuff to happen in a long time. You should see the video where people are hiding in a room from the literal Lovecraft-like wild creatures.
Edit: here" (I opened this link and it took me to a YouTube video showing three people, including the camera operator, in a small toll booth room. The two others, one woman with blond hair who looked to be in her 30s and an adrogynous looking person with black hair who looked to be in his 20s, were both shaking, glancing between each other and the camera operator, then there was a loud bang at the door. Adrenaline rushed through me, hoping those people could be rescued. The camera was aimed at the door, which had multiple cracks in it. There was another bang. The door shook and the cracks got longer. One of the two people on the left began to cry. With yet another bang, pieces of the door flew across the room. The door itself began to loosen off its hinges. Then with one more bang, the bottom half of the door was pushed in by a round dark gray beast with about 10 long tentacle-like appendages. It was so uncanny looking, adrenaline shot up through me. My eyes were wide open watching it. It ran up to the camera operator, who moved to his right then backed up. The creature climbed up on him. He struggled, then the camera fell face first on the ground. Nothing could be seen, but loud painful screaming, growling, and a couple wet crunches could be heard.
Further down the thread was something even more terrifying but interesting.
I wonder why we haven't seen any videos of creatures attacking people
Those videos are probably very NSFW. They likely haven't made it past content filters.
Some pictures were posted to MorbidReality and somebody found a video of a creature attacking somebody's back and legs. If you can't take that kind of stuff do not look at it. It's very gruesome.
There's some on Archive.org, along with many other videos I haven't seen anywhere else. Here's a link to an archive somebody is making.
I opened the link. I was taken to the page with the archive. The first video was titled Footage From Upper Canada Mall. It began on the roof of the mall. All that was heard were sirens and the sounds of helicopters. The camera operator aimed up at two giants being circled by two military helicopters. The giants appeared to be holding people. The giant on the right was holding two people who I can only describe as looking like a man and a woman, while the giant on the left was holding a woman. The giant on the right tossed the woman. She glided through the air. She hit the roof of the mall with a loud bang and turned into a red mist. I gagged and twitched. The camera operator kept the camera still. He had to have been in shock. He panned to the left a bit and caught the man landing on the roof of the mall with a loud thud while also turning into a red mist. I gagged again. What the hell? The camera was aimed up at the giant on the left, who was getting ready to throw the person it was holding. It tossed them towards the roof of the mall. They too landed with a loud bang while turning into a red mist.
That was something I never thought I'd ever see. People exploding into a bloody mist like they were nothing. Or just bags of blood. That's not something anyone should ever have to see. I'm glad that stuff won't make it past content filters. Hopefully, nobody who doesn't want to see that will ever see that ever. It's okay to be morbidly curious, and yes, it's historically significant, but I hope people are careful with footage like this.
The next video was titled "Seattle Explosion" and began on a freeway in what seemed to be the late afternoon. A man off camera said he was driving towards Seattle. He said he was driving down highways and filming in case he catches anything historic, and added that all his friends are doing the same in various parts of the US such as Houston, Texas. I was beginning to think about skipping this one due to anxiety. I didn't want to see people explode, but I assured myself it wasn't filmed close enough to capture such things. A minute into the video, the Seattle skyline could be seen in the distance. Seconds later, balls of yellow and orange erupted from every building.
These giants sure are making it a point to scare everybody. Dumping deadly creatures, torching entire areas, EMP Bubbles, Godzilla-like smashing, and now blowing up entire cities.
I don't know which one of those is going to happen to me.
What the hell do they want?
I'm afraid of having my guts sucked out by a creature
I'm afraid of being caught up in a torching
I'm afraid of being gassed
I'm afraid of being crushed to death
I'm afraid of being in an exploding city
I'm afraid of being tossed to the ground from high up in the air
Where are they going to hit next? Where are they going to hit next? Where are they going to hit next?
Where do I go?
I was hyperventilating for a couple minutes there. I paused the video and attempted to not judge my thoughts or feelings, then I wrote the above to acknowledge my feelings. Now I'm really starting to understand why people write sad songs about depression and anxiety. More so than I already did.
I looked at some of the titles of the next few videos in the archive. I hesitated to watch them, but I'll list the titles I read for curiosity's sake.
"SEATTLE EXPLOSION - East angle"
"Naypyidaw attack"
"Manila attack"
"Manila attack from north"
"Bradford attack from helicopter"
"Bradford attack angle 7"
(Six more Bradford attack videos, two of which are probably the ones I've already seen)
(Ottawa attack videos #27 to #2)
"Ottawa attack angle 1 - filmed by a Canadian Minister"
"Aftermath of Creature Dump in Niagara Region, Canada"
Out of curiosity, I decided to watch that last one I listed. It started in the backroom filled with boxes. The camera operator walked out of the room, into a smashed up restaurant. The front windows were shattered, tables and chairs were strewn everywhere. The camera was aimed to the right. Two bodies covered in blood were laying in the corner. It was unsettling to see. The camera was aimed back towards the windows. The operator moved up to them. A body was laying under an outdoor table.
After exiting the shop, the camera operator took a right and walked down the sidewalk. As he walked, he briefly looked inside different stores and multiple cars, all of which had shattered windows and thrashed items. No cars drove by. Not even police, fire department, or paramedics. No people were around at all. My breaths became shallow as I anticipated the worst. Something like a creature popping out of nowhere or another body.
A couple more blocks down the road, sirens began blaring in the distance. The camera operator walked by a store that had music playing from inside. It was something I hadn't thought of. Music that was being played as background noise was still being played through all the death and roaming creatures. They stepped through the shattered window, and as they walked to the center of the room, the music got clearer. It was a slow piano ballad about a woman telling her lover to go easy on her. It was weird hearing the song play in a smashed up deserted room with the world crumbling all around right outside. The words made it sound eerie in the context it was playing right in the middle of. As the song played, the camera operator moved broken table pieces out of their way and dug through some piles of table debris along the cracked wall on his left.
What is he looking for?
As the camera operator continued looking under knocked over tables, he began to sniffle. The song changed to a sad pop song with a high pitched piano melody. I knew the song. It was eerie too. It was about a breakup, but the lyrics about taking a metaphorical final bow echoed what I was feeling. The end of civilization, or at least the end of the civilization I was used to. I was getting very settled into this reality.
The camera operator walked to the back wall and looked around at the wreckage again. An ambulance drove by outside. The camera operator walked into the bathroom. It was reduced to rubble. Stalls ripped apart, toilets shattered, most of the mirrors were cracked… and blood was smeared across the wall near the back. The camera operator stood in one spot for a couple of moments before turning around and stepping out the door and back into the restaurant. They took some steps through the restaurant, then they aimed the camera at the ceiling. Then at the picture frames. One of them was lying on its face. Another one of them was tilted and ripped in half. Some happened to be in good shape.
After the tour of each of the paintings, the camera operator started rummaging the debris on the left side of the restaurant. As he did so, the next song began. This one was upbeat, juxtaposing the context it was playing in. It kinda creeped me out. It was supposed to be played for people's enjoyment, but nobody was enjoying anything. At least the lyrics were about persisting through absolutely anything. I guess that kinda fit, but things were too dark to think straight. The camera operator stopped rummaging about halfway to the back of the restaurant and stared on at the rubble that he would be digging through next. He zoomed in on what was clearly a shoe being worn by somebody unmoving under the rubble. He zoomed back out, turned around, and walked to the front of the restaurant.
As they looked at the buildings across the road, a creature crawled into view from the right, climbing above each window before climbing in through the window of a bike store. The camera operator moved back a bit. A minute later, a military jeep pulled up in front of the building the creature climbed into. Three soldiers climbed out and entered the store through its shattered front window.
As the camera operator zoomed in on the building, the next song began to play. It began with a whistle melody then led into lyrics about not being worried. Another upbeat song that juxtaposed the seriousness of the situation, which unsettled me more so. Inaudible shouting echoed from inside the building. Gunshots followed. A moment later, two of the soldiers stepped out of the building, uniforms stained with blood. They stood around, talking into their radios. Then the video ended. A couple seconds of the next video, titled Incoming Creatures, played before I paused it. That video began on an elevated platform near a forest. I was done watching videos of the attacks, so I wasn't going to stick around for more.
I checked the time. 10:58 PM. I slid the phone into my pocket and walked out into the livingroom to see what the others were up to. They were discussing what the giants may want while the news played on the TV. A woman was talking about the destruction of Town Zero… Sharon. Footage was played of a colossal giant popping up just north of the town, then with two swoops, the giant smashed the town to dust and rubble. My heart sank. We're getting colossal giants here too? I mean, of course we are. They're not just going to reserve certain things for certain areas. Clearly they will attack just about anywhere, right?
William asked me to help him get something from the shed out back. I told him I'll go out and wait for him there. I got my shoes on and stepped outside into the warm dark night. There was an eerie calmness to it. Like nature hadn't been going nearly as insane as we humans have. I stepped around back and spotted the shed. As I stepped towards it, two colossal silhouettes formed in the sky some distance away. They contrasted the light polluted light orange glow. I don't want to under describe how massive they were. Not tall enough to reach above the clouds, but tall enough to make my chest drop to the point I thought I was about to have a heart attack. They moved in my direction, their silhouettes growing, obscuring the light orange glow of the sky.
Why here? Who's here that they want? Unless it really is me. They aren't going for some random people I don't know. This is an alternate reality in which they're coming after me. But that theory seemed to small minded. I wasn't possibly going to be in multiple places in the US, China, North Korea, Belgium… maybe they're also going for my relatives… but I don't know anybody who would ever be in North Korea of all places.
I thought about it as I sprinted for my life over the fence into the neighbors yard, then over the next fence, then over the next… I kept hopping fences until I made it to the corner of the town. It was just a field. Thumps shook the ground. Car alarms began going off. I fell to my knees due to the heavy vibration. I avoided looking to my left, at the giants' massive silhouettes. I stared at the ground and hoped for the best with the worst pit of dread I ever felt.
Loud booms and crashes blew out my ear drums. I never heard loud sounds like those so up close. I covered my ears, but the piercing sounds still hurt. The smashing lasted a couple minutes, getting quieter and quieter as the giants moved further away from me. My curiosity got the best of me and I glanced at the giants. They had to have been 500 meters tall or something. For some reason, not being able to see them was more dread inducing than being able to see them. A cloud of dust hit my face. I coughed like a motherfucker and walked forward, finding my way out of the choking smoke.
William and Jason…
I looked in the direction of Jason's house. It was too dark to see anything but some fires a couple houses away. Whatever was left of those houses anyway. The giants were still smashing their way through the town when I heard a fast plane. I looked up and saw a light flying towards the giants.
Fighter jets? Missiles?
The missile struck the giant in its midsection and exploded in a ball of fire. The giant continued smashing. It didn't move differently after the hit. It continued eliminating the town. Another explosion occurred near the head of the other giant and it was the same outcome. The attack continued on for another minute, with more explosions that didn't faze the giants. Maybe the missiles made a mark. It was too dark to see those marks if so. Finally, the crashes and booms stopped. The giants stood in one spot, not moving at all, then they vanished into thin air.
That was seriously screwed up. I almost died. I want out of this. Who in the multiverse would wish this on their worst enemy? The idea of possibly being crushed, gassed, blown up, thrown to your death… I walked back to Jason's house. It only took a couple of minutes. When I got back there, it was a pile of wood, broken up walls, unrecognizable rooms, scattered roof tiles, and bricks. I hurried around to the front. When I saw Jason's arm crushed under a pile of bricks and wires, I almost gagged. I looked away and stepped to where the front door was. William's hand laid beside a growing fire.
Where am I supposed to go? I'm a refugee now. I should check the news. Any news outlet that hasn't had its data center destroyed. I haven't heard of that happening but it has to have happened by now.
I pulled out my phone and opened CNN.
"THE GIANTS CONTINUE TO BERATE THEIR ROOTS"
"Ontario, Canada is ground zero for the attacks. Everyone is still wondering why"
"WATCH: See Seattle explode in a ball of fire"
"The black chemical agent sprayed on multiple American towns and Chinese cities may not be of this world"
"Bomb shelters, caves… even sewers. Americans are desperate for safety, but some Americans claim all they need to do is stay armed and ready"
MILITARY: "Civilians shouldn't push their luck thinking standard rifles are enough to defend against Giants"
"Security camera footage shows Manila attack"
"Ukraine is free, but for how long?"
""I'm tired of living through history" The attacks from Gen Z's perspective"
It was always interesting to go into an alternate reality and look at the top news headlines. This time though… it's very serious, as I'm a full on victim of the wild stuff that's going on in the alternate reality. I sat down and read all the news articles I could. I read all the Reddit threads about every major development in this whole event. I also felt it was important enough to go back to that archive on Archive.org and download all the footage posted there for archival, especially in the case I ever made it out of here. There was a ton of interesting things I saw in the various realities I traveled to over the years. If I get the device back, I can go back and download some footage from those realities. I could become an archivist or something. But it hit me that I was more likely to die than fulfill any dream I ever had.
At around 1 AM, I heard my name being called by a familiar deep voice.
"You were supposed to die!" he said. "How are you still alive!?"
"I saw them pop out of nowhere… so I ran like hell."
"Well now we're going to have to take you somewhere else."
"Why not shoot me?" I asked, frustrated. "Why not end my life right now?"
"True Nicole said you needed to be weighed down by the stuff going on in this reality," he said, resting his hand on his hip. "Either you are scared of the giants or you are killed by the giants."
I stood up, slid my phone into my pocket, and walked away. I didn't think I was going to make it far without confrontation. A couple homes down, a pain hit my neck. Before I could process it, I woke up in the trunk of a car. All I could hear was the news. All I could feel was the car bumping up and down. All I could see, other than the interior of the trunk of course, was a light morning sky. One right before the sun rose above the horizon.
"...still no word from British officials after the attacks on London and Cheltenham, England. Reports of giants being present in London and Cheltenham came out just after 4 this morning. The number of casualties is unknown, and the British Prime Minister is still missing…"
"She's awake."
"What's up fake Nicole?"
"Where are we?" I asked.
"Williamsport, Pennsylvania," alternate me said. "We're going to Washington DC."
"How do you know anything is going to happen there?"
"She never said anything would," Ian said.
"You said I was supposed to die," I said. "You knew the giants were going to strike the place I was in."
"I traveled to a reality where it was this timeline, but one month after the attacks began," alternate me said. "Then I copied a list of everything that happened in these attacks. I know what happens next."
I froze. They really did have this planned out, didn't they…
"Now, I want you to stop talking," alternate me said. "Don't breathe too loudly either. Also, if we catch you calling for help, I will stop on the side of the road, Ian will inject you with fire ants and Billy will inject you with steroids."
"To keep you awake and energized so you feel the pain more intensely and for a longer amount of time," she said.
"Yes," alternate me said. "And you can still go on the internet if you want."
I stared up at the blue morning sky, strangled by dread. I realized I had cold sweats all over me. I pulled out my phone and Googled some more Reddit threads. 20 minutes into reading comments, the news channel on the radio switched to a Pop music station. At first, I assumed alternate me changed the station, but when I went back to the Giant Attacks search results, they had all changed to results about some unrelated game.
My hopes went up. Could it be? A slip? I was ready to believe it, even if it was mostly to ease my anxiety. I went to CNN's website. To my relief, the headlines were about… normal topics. [Top news headlines on the day I post this story]
I don't know how long I'll be back in our reality. If I even am back here… I guess you will know if you see this update.
Alternate me is swearing. I think she caught on to what happened… Now she's turning the car around. I'll update again when I'm back.
