2023.06.02 00:09 xernascarlet Help! I pretended to be a guy on Facebook, I now have a meeting with a famous Toy Company and they want to Zoom with me!
Bit of a long story but I really need some advice on what to do next, this is really embarrassing:
I set up one of my facebook accounts with a male name and no profile picture. I use this account to sell things on Facebook Marketplace. Because of the FB algorithm I ended up seeing a group started by a guy who had a successful kickstarter. I joined this chatroom because I was a fan of the kickstarter when it came out last year.
Sidenote: I recently started a company to sell a new toy invention and currently have two prototypes.
I asked in the chatroom if they thought my product would do well in a Kickstarter. People were very nice in this chatroom and to my surprise the guy who started this chatroom and the owner of the very successful kickstarter, lets call him "Paul", told me to message him privately because he thinks he can give me an intro to a big toy company. I was blown away by his generosity but this guy seriously moves fast.
I PM'd him and said I was interesting in learning more on how he could help me out... then he voice called me! I had just woken up so my voice was kind of drowsy and sounded like a guys. I answered and thankfully he was sharing a lot of information so it didnt require me to talk much and when I did I talk I kept it short and my voice low.
At this point hes been using my fake male name on Facebook throughout this whole convo. After our call ends and I send him a video of my product he asks me if I had an email I use. I quickly made a fake email on gmail [malename].[toy]@gmail.com and then he emails an intro to that giant toy company with that email introducing me as [male name]!
There's about 5 people all CC'd into this email. They're asking me to 1. sign a contract 2. set up a TEAMS pitch meeting.. Then Paul PM's me on facebook and says "I'd be happy to be a part of the meeting with you etc". FML I also have terrible social anxiety hence the fake personas online
I've dug myself into a really deep hole and I dont know how to get out of it, its also VERY embarrassing that this lie went on for so long but I have to tell you all - this happened in the span of an hour!
What should I do? I'm thinking of PM'ing Paul on facebook and telling him the truth that im actually not a guy and then taking him out of the CC emails and telling all of the company workers at this toy company that my legal name is actually [female name] and im a woman and i only go by [male name] on facebook because I sell things on marketplace and dont want to use my real identity. There's also the issue of the email they're communicating with me at which also makes things confusing. What do you think I should do?

2023.06.02 00:06 Spiritual-Ad-8348 Best way to promote a service?
Man it’s been really tough. I am working on phone repair / it service / computer repair and construction company. I am having trouble advertising my service.
I’ve used Craigslist, but I am getting a few hits but not enough
Facebook removed my marketplace ad, same with OfferUp. Unfortunately these platforms go against their terms.
Does anyone have suggestions? I also have a day job.

2023.06.02 00:05 PercentMage9 How would I remove little bugs from a CRT?
Hi all, I just recently got a small CRT with a built in DVD player from Facebook Marketplace (it was a free-be, so there's no way I could have turned the offer down), I mostly wanted it so that I could watch some DVDs on a CRT without the hassle of having an external DVD player set up. Anyways, after bringing it in, I noticed that it has some <1mm big little orange-ish bugs crawling around both on the outside and inside and they definitely seem to be from the TV and not something from mine that has passed them onto it (good thing I haven't brought it into the house yet lol). I have tried blowing the inside out with compressed air as well as hoovering the outside/giving it a good wipe down however the bugs still seem to be on it. TLDR: does anyone have a good solution for removing these little pests without damaging/major disassembly of the CRT? Thanks.

2023.06.02 00:01 GlyphCreep Any good alternatives to facebook marketplace? (I'm in the UK)
I ditched Facebook more than a year ago, but I kind of miss bargain hunting on market place. I was wondering if there were any good equivalents, Ebay is fine, but its over populated with professional sellers, whereas I want to deal with individuals and second hand goods.

2023.06.01 23:44 BarryTheBonobo What if your V5 doesn't arrive in time for going abroad?
So in an exciting turn of events, my Ducati went all Italian and threw a valve 4 days before I am due to leave for Andorra via the ferry in Newhaven.
I'm considering buying a Facebook marketplace special but I suddenly though that the new V5 won't arrive in time and whether or not that could prove tricky when crossing over? I would have the new keepers slip of course.
Thanks all!

2023.06.01 23:31 privacylmao I do electrical gigs
I'm a full-time student to become an electrician. I worked in the construction industry for several years before going to school, now the thing is I'm running very very low on money, in other words I'm in a lot of debts. I can't find jobs paying as much as doing electrical gigs in peoples homes. Where I live jobs after school I can work in a regular job like grocerie store, etc from 4 p.m to 9-10 p.m but they're not worth it (15-19$) compared to me doing electrical gigs. I've been booking appointments with customers through Facebook Marketplace for a month already (made ads offering my service) and it went well but recently I feel like Facebook doesn't let it slide anymore. They review my service ads and they shut it down. How can I promote them locally? (online preferably) Is there other platforms that don't require a business registration ID or whatever so I can spread the word and get more customers? Thank you for your time

2023.06.01 23:15 Bryerley TIFU by buying left handed golf clubs
TIFU because recently I have begun to get into the swing of things with golf. Being that it’s a new hobby of mine, I didn’t really understand just how expensive new golf clubs are. That being said I tried my luck on Facebook Marketplace…
I found this set labeled “LH golf clubs for sale” I say to myself oh great it’s only $50 for a whole set of clubs. No legs on it? That’s fine. Anyways, I go to pick up this set of golf clubs, excitedly thank the kind dude who gave me them, and drive over to the golf range.
I get to the golf range and it’s a nice sunny day. Pretty windy but couldn’t be better. I carry my clubs over and start to tee up. I take the driver out and naturally line up the swing on the left side since I’m right handed. “Hmm that’s weird it’s facing the opposite direction of the hall” I thought. That’s when it hit me. I’m right handed. I just tried to tee up with left handed golf clubs. I thought LH MEANT THE BRAND OF CLUB.
I ended up leaving the entire bag there out of pure embarrassment…guess golf isn’t my thing.
TL;DR bought left handed golf clubs thinking they were a brand…

2023.06.01 22:42 AOT1fxl Can a bad SSD ruin other components?
I understand the short answer is no, but I’m absolutely mind blown by my situation.
I was scammed off Facebook marketplace for a PC that didn’t work. As one does, with this new pile of trash, I begin to see if I can fix it.
I use my current PC to test the SSD and HD that were in the broken one. (Originally had a nvme and an old HD in it to begin with). When trying to boot with the “new” ssd crashes and bring me right to the recovery screen, no surprises. So I unplug it and try to start my computer up as normal giving myself a little break from the headache.
My computer is only booting from the HD (which I don’t even remember the windows login password to get into it). I have given the nvme boot priority and I am getting the “reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key” prompt.
I have no idea why my computer isn’t booting up normally after a quick install of this bad ssd.
With the guy who gave it to me dropping off the face of the earth after the deal I’m scared that it’s not just broken but possible contains a virus or something that erased my nvme.
Please help

2023.06.01 22:05 LarryPotaot PSU cable help
Hi all, I have some questions and concerns for power supply cables and such.
I just picked up a used EVGA Supernova NEX650G from facebook marketplace. I tested one of the CPU cables and the 24pin motherboard cable out and it worked fine. However, when I plugged in a Harddrive with one of the cables, the HDD caught on fire. With further inspection I realized it was a Corsair Type4 cable. Now I am terrified. Heres the cables I have right now:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x1NK\_DPhpCncr0kUMwszaadjL-u7vVP0?usp=sharing It appears to be 2 EVGA G+ Cables, 2 VGA cables with the letters "K21" on the little notch to keep the 6+2 cable in the connection, and one sketchy SATA cable that only has 5 pin connection to the psu despite being 6 pinned.
I only need two VGA connectors and the Sata cable to work, can someone confirm if they do? I do not want to fry another drive and/or my GPU.

2023.06.01 21:58 ThatSupermarket7375 Am I being scammed on Facebook Marketplace?
So I put up a listing to sell a dining room set, reasonable price for a fairly nice set. I got a response in a few minutes from someone with a sort of sketchy looking profile asking for a firm price and a location to pick it up. After a little back and forth on a day to meet they agreed to meet me in person at a local Starbucks. I never gave them any information other than the town I live in and I told them I wanted to meet elsewhere because their profile is sketchy.
Something about the whole interaction makes me suspicious, but I can't specifically say what. Am I being paranoid or is this some kind of scam?

2023.06.01 21:36 xRoyalGloryx Why can’t I sell tickets on Facebook Marketplace?
I have 4 tickets that I really need to sell as I accidentally bought the wrong tickets, any time I post them on marketplace it immediately goes under review then gets taken down. Is there anywhere else I can post them or anything I can do to keep them posted?

2023.06.01 21:33 REVOLUTION293 How worth it is it to buy an SX-70?
I’ve recently picked up a Polaroid sun 600 lms and a Polaroid 600 express, I really enjoy using Polaroid cameras but I find myself very limited to these cameras. I’ve found a Polaroid SX-70 on Facebook marketplace for around 280$ CAD that had just been serviced (new leather, parts replaced, and converted to 600 film) just wondering if it’s worth buying or not.

2023.06.01 20:47 styledliving JD Power Demo
I think this demo is really interesting because it's consumer applicable. While it's still an internal application, but I imagine once it goes live, if not used by trolls to poison the a.i. deliberately, it could be used to:
- provide immediate feedback to customers to help them find what they want
- directly provide market data (both sales and preferences) to vehicle manufacturers for what potential buyers actually want
The ability to filter and refine responses is amazing too.
I can imagine that at some point, someone may try to integrate all the data sources out there, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Autotrader,
Cars.com, Cars and bids, Bring a Trailer, Top Rank, Japan Auto Auctions, and ad infinitum.
You could setup automated alerts to find that highly desirable 80-series Land Cruiser with a manual transmission or that Autozam AZ-1 whenever it hits the states. Or maybe just to find an affordable Honda Civic Hybrid from the early 2000s for your kid's first car.
Now apply this to nearly every consumer industry, you won't be getting rid of customer support representatives, but you'll be giving them a tool to provide customers with more decision making info (read: actionable intelligence).
To hearken back Shyam's Ted Talk about Human/Computer Cooperation.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltelQ3iKybU This isn't something new, but it gives a whole new "human readable" spin to what Palantir can do with data and insights.
We can collect data, but analyzing it is hard because it's not structured nor arranged in a meaningful manner.
Palantir can help add structure to that data by tagging properties in terms of time, physicality, and relationship building context.
And the Analysis portion has actually always been performed by the human because we're the ones w/ the experience. We're the ones asking the questions building upon our own understanding of the world, this is our ontological understanding, but that's not really all there is, right?
There's the need to actually utilize the platform and do so with a very deep technical understanding of it. This is a technical hurdle, or wall, or silo, whatever you want to call it that prevents stakeholders from utilizing this. Typically you'd need to be paired with an experienced platform-specific analyst to do work.
Utilizing AIP, people will be able to combine the Data, the Context, and the Analysis without the needing to understand the technical layer of the platform.
Again, nothing ground breaking, but making it available to everyone is. This is why explaining "TAM" is so pointless because everyone who wants a deeper understanding of their "world" could benefit from data analysis and pull meaningful value.
