2023.06.02 00:52 Ok_Childhood5651 Moving Laterally in Healthcare

Hello my fellow Medical Assistants! This is a question for the veteran Medical Assistants out there.
I have been a Registered Medical Assistant for 10 years now, have my Associates degree, and I have tons of experience. Urgent Care, Pediatrics, Family, Pharmacitical, Physical Therapy, and now working in Occ Med. I really have done it all and seen it all in the offices, including training and teaching medical assisting classes.
Here's my question for ya'll...
I have thought about going back to school for nursing but with the need of taking pre-reqs and then needing to be on a wait list, just doesn't sound fun. So what about moving Laterally? Such as instead of being just a RMA, going back to school for 2 months to train in EKG's and taking the exams to be an EKG Technician. There are other certifications we can take, but most of them require some sort of in class instruction in order to test for a cert.
I am already a Breath Alcohol Technician, needed it for Occ Med. We do EKG's in my office, which is with a hospital, so therefore don't you think I would also be more useful as an EKG Tech for my department and/or more useful in the cardio department with being an RMA as well?
Let me know what your thoughts are of this move. Supervisors in even small medical offices are more and more becoming bachelor degree oriented.

2023.06.02 00:46 richardvirginia Need help getting helper meds (Gabapentin)

I have been taking tia Sodium for about 4 years now. At this point, it has ballooned into a 5gpd habit. Skip to the last paragraph for the important part.
There are some strange things to note. I sleep a solid 8 hours, and sometimes I wake up without being in withdrawal, 9.5 hours after my last dose. But no matter when or how much I dose after waking, full blown withdrawal in 3 hours at best. I also have seen a recent return of my sexual function, which is strange for reasons I don't have to explain on this subreddit. I'm able to take half of my regular dose without so much as discomfort. I also experience nothing from taking it. In fact, I feel worse on the stuff than I do in the earliest stages of withdrawal.
My plan is to taper myself down back to the sub 100mg per dose range, but I borderline have PTSD from the times I was forced to go cold turkey for two or three days at a time. When I do get withdrawal, it's absolutely brutal: A bone-chilling coldness despite being drenched in sweat, full body restlessness, a racing heart, a constant rush of unpleasant emotions, and a total lack of sleep for 72 hrs. Plus, horrible body odor, extreme weakness, constant shakiness, and an inability to keep food down.
Kratom doesn't help, benzos and weed barely touch it. I don't want to be stuck on methadone or suboxone for the rest of the foreseeable future, and if I'm quitting the stuff, I won't be able to work to afford care anyway. I'm need to rapid taper and then cold turkey this. It feels like the only realistic option.
The important part: Gabapentin is the only thing I've tried that actually helps. It near-totally resolves my symptoms in relatively small amounts. I could actually kick tia if I could get enough to buckle down for 4 days. The problem, however, is that I'm not able to get it in the state of Virginia. An actual doctor at urgent care told me they're not licensed to prescribe controlled substances for withdrawal (and they don't even know what tia is), telehealth won't prescribe gabapentin in virginia, psychiatrists refer me to addiction centers, and every addiction center in my area only seem to give methadone, suboxone, naloxone, and benzos for opiates. Technically, there aren't even established guidelines for treating tia addiction here. Not to mention, my lack of healthcare would make rehab an absolute pain to pay for.
How can I get my hands on Gabapentin in Virginia? I feel like I've tried everything to get it, and at this point, I'm seriously losing steam. I want out, but no one seems to have keys for the damn door. Any help, tips, anything?

Frugal Schizoids: Fun Activities
User
Hey, can you list in great depth and detail precisely ten fun activities to do for frugal schizoids with avolition, anhedonia, and asociality?
ChatGPT:
Certainly! I understand that individuals with schizoid personality traits, such as avolition (lack of motivation), anhedonia (inability to experience pleasure), and asociality (preference for solitary activities), may have unique preferences when it comes to leisure activities. Here are ten fun activities that can be enjoyable for frugal schizoids:
Reading: Reading is a fantastic activity for schizoids as it allows for solitary engagement with captivating stories or non-fiction subjects. Libraries and online resources offer an extensive range of free books, making it an affordable hobby. You can explore various genres based on personal interests.
Creative Writing: Expressing yourself through writing can be a rewarding and fulfilling activity. You can start a journal, write short stories, or even create a blog. Writing offers an outlet for your thoughts and emotions and allows you to explore your imagination.
Photography: Photography is an excellent way to capture moments and express your unique perspective. You don't need an expensive camera to get started; even smartphones can produce remarkable photos. You can explore different themes and experiment with editing techniques to enhance your skills.
Nature Walks: Spending time in nature can be calming and rejuvenating. Take leisurely walks in parks, nature reserves, or nearby trails. Observe the beauty of the natural world, listen to the sounds of birds, and enjoy the serenity. It's a frugal way to reconnect with yourself and find solace.
Puzzles and Brain Teasers: Engaging in puzzles, such as crosswords, Sudoku, or logic games, can be mentally stimulating and enjoyable. They offer a challenge and help exercise your cognitive skills while providing a sense of accomplishment upon completion.
DIY Projects: Get creative and undertake do-it-yourself projects. This could include refurbishing furniture, crafting, painting, or learning a new skill like knitting or woodworking. You can find affordable materials and tutorials online, making it a cost-effective way to explore your artistic side.
Online Gaming: If you enjoy gaming, explore the vast world of online gaming. Many games offer immersive single-player experiences that cater to individual preferences. Look for free-to-play or low-cost games that align with your interests, whether it's puzzle-solving, strategy, or exploration.
Meditation and Mindfulness: Engaging in meditation and mindfulness exercises can help you find inner peace and alleviate stress. Numerous free guided meditation apps and online resources are available. Take some time each day to practice mindfulness and cultivate a sense of well-being.
Music Exploration: Dive into the world of music by exploring various genres, artists, and time periods. Create personalized playlists, discover new bands or solo artists, and delve into the history and cultural significance of music. Streaming platforms and online radio offer a vast selection of music for free or at a minimal cost.
Volunteer Work: Although schizoids tend to be asocial, engaging in volunteer work can provide a sense of purpose and contribute to the community. Choose activities that allow you to work independently, such as helping at a local animal shelter, participating in environmental cleanups, or offering your skills for pro bono work.
Remember, finding enjoyable activities can be a personal journey, and it's important to experiment and explore what resonates with you. These suggestions offer a starting point, but feel free to adapt them to your preferences and comfort levels.
User:
You are genuinely amazing. I didn't expect these to align quite so perfectly with the desired audience. Any additional tips for relaxing, having fun, and actually enjoying the things you do?
ChatGPT:
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad the suggestions resonated with you. Here are some additional tips to help you relax, have fun, and enhance your enjoyment of the activities you engage in:
Embrace Mindfulness: Practice being fully present and engaged in the moment while you're doing an activity. Pay attention to the details, sensations, and emotions that arise. Mindfulness can help you appreciate the small pleasures and nuances that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that enjoyment and relaxation can vary from person to person. Don't put excessive pressure on yourself to experience intense pleasure or force yourself to engage in activities you don't genuinely enjoy. Embrace the process and find fulfillment in the act itself.
Take Breaks: Give yourself permission to take breaks during activities. This can help prevent burnout and maintain a sense of balance. Pace yourself and listen to your body and mind. If you feel overwhelmed or fatigued, take a short break, and return to the activity when you feel ready.
Create a Comfortable Environment: Ensure that your surroundings are conducive to relaxation and enjoyment. Whether it's finding a cozy reading nook, setting up a comfortable workspace, or organizing your materials for a DIY project, creating a space that supports your activities can enhance your experience.
Experiment and Explore: Don't be afraid to try new activities and explore different interests. The process of discovery itself can be exciting and rewarding. Be open-minded and allow yourself to step out of your comfort zone. You might find unexpected sources of enjoyment.
Share with Like-minded Individuals: While schizoids tend to prefer solitary activities, there may be occasions when sharing your interests with like-minded individuals can enhance your enjoyment. Seek out online communities, forums, or local groups where you can connect with others who share your passions and engage in discussions or activities together.
Practice Self-Care: Engage in self-care activities that promote relaxation and well-being. This can include taking soothing baths, practicing gentle stretching or yoga, listening to calming music, or enjoying a favorite hobby. Taking care of yourself holistically can contribute to a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
Release Performance Pressure: Remember that the purpose of engaging in activities is primarily for your own enjoyment and personal growth. Release any expectations of perfection or comparison with others. Focus on the process, progress, and the pleasure derived from the activity itself, rather than external validation.
Celebrate Milestones: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements and milestones along the way. Whether it's completing a challenging puzzle, finishing a writing project, or mastering a new skill, take a moment to appreciate your progress. Reward yourself with small treats or positive affirmations.
Practice Gratitude: Cultivate a sense of gratitude for the activities you engage in and the enjoyment you derive from them. Recognize the positive aspects, however small, and savor them. Gratitude can enhance your overall sense of well-being and make your experiences more fulfilling.
Remember, everyone's journey is unique, and it's important to prioritize your own well-being and happiness. Adapt these tips to suit your individual needs and preferences, and don't hesitate to explore new strategies that resonate with you. Enjoy your pursuit of relaxation, fun, and genuine enjoyment!

2023.06.02 00:22 GreatScott0389 Opinions on double dipping specific titles

So now that I'm older and have bills to pay I don't care about getting a 4k if I already have the blu ray. The only ones i really want to rebuy are these and i was hoping for some opinions on how much better they look. LOTR (I want the extended and my blu rays are theatrical), Star Wars Ep 1-6, Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future (which already looks fantastic on blu ray). Any insight is appreciated.

Does birb look healthy?
I want to take him to the vet, but I just want some second opinions because my anxiety makes me always think that something is wrong. I love my Benny boy, and I just want him to be okay. Also don't mind his feet or beak, he just ate strawberries. I take good care of him, his cage is nice and big, plenty of toys and fresh food and water. He also has a nail that's a little crooked and off, is that something I should worry about? It's pretty visable in the 4th photo. He also likes to "regurgitate" and I know that can be a sign saying "I love you" but when he's a decent distance, he still does that. He's been a bit of a grump, which I already posted before. My anxiety sucks so bad and I worry. So forgive me if I overthink. I hope the pictures are helpful...

2023.06.02 00:20 Oneiropolos Tips For Life Makeover

I've seen some confusion about things in both this sub and in the game, so I've created a sort of quick guide to answer some basic questions about some of the systems in the game. I only started when the global server opened so I'm NOT an expert, but I've tried to do some research and understand things the best I can so hopefully this will be helpful to someone!
Vitality:
Used to talk in world chat. It can be traded in your profile screen for gold. 100 Vitality is worth 500 gold when you tap "use" next to it under your picture. It caps depending on your level so unless you talk all the time in world chat, get that gold each day!
Cooking:
At your home, you have two basic needs - hunger and cleanliness. Hunger is a little time consuming to resolve since you have to cook and eat multiple meals to fill it. But being full is worth doing once a day as it earns you Chestnuts to be claimed each day. The amount of chestnuts are based on how much income you are getting from the Endorsement Queen competition that is always running as you get two hours worth of income from the previous day converted directly to extra chestnuts.
You gain 75 points of energy for cooking each day, maxing at 300 points if you don't spend it. This means you have four days of leniency before you start letting energy go to waste. Each point of energy converts directly to a point of proficiency, allowing you to work up the ranks of cooking. As you reach different levels, you can learn recipes that are sometimes faster to make or take care of your hunger efficiently. Your tablet in 'Home Services' might have some recipes when you watch the food related channels (Cuisine, Desserts, and Water). These channels are also available on certain TVs and computers in homes and you will learn different recipes from them. The computer also has a special bulletin option that also can grant recipes. Bookshelves often have a single recipe that can be learned by them, so If you don't want your own personal library, make sure you keep an eye out for different bookshelves in friend's homes! The last important place to get recipes is the Boardwalk/ community center. Two recipes come from NPCs that only spawn when it is nighttime in the game HOME screen (Please note that the home time moves differently than the rest of the game and your personal clock, so you may just need to pop over and check what time it is there.) The other NPC is always there if you look around the center area.
Dyeing:
In general (there seems to be some exceptions), clothes under 3 stars require basic dye and clothes above require trend dyes. Things like dresses cost more dyes than shoes or socks. If you have a piece of clothing you wear a lot to pass levels, Fashion Battle, or Endorsement Queen, you can increase the stats on it by raising the charm on it. The important points are 8 and 16 charm, which gives fashion style +5% and +10% respectively. Dyes on pieces that are not in a set (and thus do not have a Charm in the lower left corner) do not increase stats. From a purely mechanical standpoint, it is best to focus on getting one piece to 8 so you can have the 5% rather than two pieces to 4, as that does not grant a bonus yet. To get to 16, you will have to extend the palette to unlock more colors. This often requires you to have had duplicates of the clothing pieces that you decomposed and got specific vanes for.
Allies:
Ally experience and intimacy becomes INCREDIBLY slow to get and you will want to focus on the highest tier allies possible. You almost NEVER want to spend on an R ally - you cannot get what you invested in them back and you will get SR allies through various events and methods in game for free. One thing to consider when it comes to allies is that you want to be able to attain as many duplicates as possible - so allies from gacha events are a little more of a struggle here. If that’s all you have better than an R, go for it, but when the event is gone it’ll be much more difficult to evolve and raise the skills of them in the long run. There are currently 4 SSR allies available in the permanent gacha pools - Doomsday Rose (Cool), Perfect Match (Elegant), Red Spider Lily (Sexy), Fuzzy Fun (Sweet). There are 8 SR’s available permanently. Right now, the Rose Fantasy gacha has Doomsday Rose and Perfect match SSR allies also in it, and one SSR card not available in normal gachas. If you want more information, you can click the little i on the upper right corner and click over to Ally List to see which allies are available where.
General Clothing Tips:
Only five accessories count when it comes to scoring in Endorsement Queen and Fashion battle. It will always select the highest scoring accessories if you’re not sure and there doesn’t seem to be a penalty to adding more, but there’s no NEED to add more if you are certain you have 5 that will rank the highest. In other words, that ring that only ranks as a B in Endorsement Queen is probably not ever going to be counted so you don’t have to stress yourself out putting something on in every category.
Endorsement Queen:
The way this mode work is you’re trying to pass certain scores for themes to open ‘stores’. This earns you income which also counts towards increasing your level inside Endorsement Queen. Every level in Endorsement Queen increases the bonus given to your score, so it’s important to claim the income regularly in case it’ll bump you up in score! You likely want to check this daily and make sure you haven’t gotten any new pieces that are better than something you had on. If you ONLY increased an Ally, that will often update with “Highest Record Quick Endorse” just fine. However, if you got better clothing, you will need to tap Endorsement and manually replace it. 50 Income gained=1 Chestnut and there’s no penalty to converting, so it’s a must for gaining chestnuts for your house. When you tap management, you can redeem chestnuts, see how your current income is, and tap the “Income” button. Often when you level up (and almost every time at the beginning) you may be able to increase the Ability of a store so it gives more income, or Use a Decoration that will increase income. You will unlock multiple decorations in a row - always make sure the one In Use is the HIGHER percentage in each row that you’ve managed to unlock.
Gold:
I’ve seen this confusion pop in world chat more than once. Yes, you need gold. You need a lot of gold. You will NEVER have enough gold. Ignoring just basic purchases you need to buy from the store and the like, there are several heavy gold sinks! Improving your ally always requires gold and once you get to the higher levels, that cost gets very noticeable. Through your guild, you can also take beauty courses, which the second and fourth categories are increased through gold. This gives a huge boost to your stats and once you get to around the 40th class, you are spending a minimum of 300,000 gold per class with some being more expensive.
If you still have gold after that, or maybe you’re stuck trying to grind some levels so you can’t take the next course or update your ally - you should probably still keep the gold. If it’s burning a hole in your pocket though and you want to indulge, you can spend 48,000 gold at the Starlight Show permanent Gacha for a ten pull. This will get you potentially new clothing pieces, makeup, photo additions, and if you get doubles, coins in decomposition to let you buy the clothes there. If your gold is in high supply, you’re probably missing something!
Miscellaneous Tips:
Not sure where to spend whatever currency you know you just saw you got from doing whatever you just did? Go to “Bonus” on the main menu and over to “Exchange”. This is a list of all the stores so you can see what you have to spend in!
Have extra energy but can’t move forward in levels? Check other outfits out in your Fashion studio to see if there’s other items you can collect in advance to make it easier for you later. Don’t let that energy go to waste! Hitting max means it stops generating new energy for you so spend it!
If there's anything I've gotten wrong or other tips and tricks I've left out, please comment! I don't want to give misinformation and there's probably a lot I don't know myself yet. There's also things that are coming to mind that I know I've left out but I had to stop somewhere!

2023.06.02 00:13 brokebrunette Caregiver vent session

April 8th of last year, my 60 year old mom was suffering from face and neck swelling, and was eventually diagnosed with SVCS (superior vena cava syndrome) due to Limited Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer. She had a tumor at the top of her right lung that was 4.5 inches in diameter. She moved in with me, my husband, and my then two year old son for the duration of her treatment. It was rough, but we did our best to take care of her and support her as best as we could.
5 rounds of chemo, 33 days of radiation, the loss of 30+ lbs and her hair and her appetite, a bad bout of pneumonia and a drain tube for 4 weeks, and a collapsed lung that was repaired surgically and then collapsed again, later…she went into partial remission (cancer stable, not gone) in December of last year. We (including her) honestly didn’t think we would see the day! She went on immunotherapy, Tecentriq, every 21 days and things were good. Great, even.
She got her own place 2 miles up the road and went on to enjoy her independence. Her hair grew back stark gray and curly as heck (very different than before), she started going for walks regularly, bought concert tickets for later this month and another concert in Sept. We see her almost everyday and have truly made the effort to enjoy every moment we have with her.
A few weeks ago she started having trouble with her right leg. “It wasn’t doing what her brain was telling it to do” was how she put it. She went to an urgent care and they said she pulled a muscle and gave her muscle relaxers. It progressively got worse over the last three weeks. After calls to her oncologist went unanswered and unreturned and her PCP couldn’t get her in for a week, she finally agreed to go in to the ER.
Yesterday we found out her sclc has metastasized to her brain. Two small spots- one a few inches above her right ear that’s 2cm, and another in the back of her brain that’s the size of a pencil mark. Localized radiation therapy is scheduled for Monday, and they’re doing a CT scan to check her other organs right now.
She’s devastated. I’m devastated. I haven’t cried this hard or this much in a very long time. She’s remaining super positive about this, which is wonderful, and we are all reflecting that positivity right back at her. But I know the statistics. I lost my dad 7 years ago suddenly to a massive heart attack. I’m terrified to be parentless. My son, now 3, adores his Nana. All he knows is her always being here, seeing her daily. It hurts my heart that he’s My youngest sister is pregnant with her first child after 7 years of trying and IVF. It’s not very likely my mom will be here when she gives birth.
I know there’s still more time. I just thought we’d have more. I’m so utterly heartbroken for her. For myself. For my sisters and my son.
This sucks so badly.

2023.06.02 00:12 daufaqisreddit123 Host lied that we damaged their property. We did not.

Host lied in review
I'm honestly really annoyed. But I'd like a hosts honest opinion. I feel it's so unfair and I don't know whether to fight it. I live abroad, and i booked a place for my parents to stay so they could visit me for 2 weeks. Host had great reviews, self check in so never met her, but through the messages they seem nice. The apartment was clean and comfortable. Yadda yadda. Gave her a 5 star review when my parents checked out, lovely place etc. Text her like and idiot to tell her this and thank her. She messages me a few hours later saying my parents damaged the property. The photos she sent were wear and tear and honestly so minimal it might of been a previous guest, they were not noticible and I didnt even see them while i was in the apartment the night before. Her photos also were not proof it was even that apartment. But I didn't bother saying it because I thought she was being ridiculous. I was honestly so surprised, my reviews are perfect and my parents are more careful than I am. This was not damage at all, but she acted like they wrecked the place.. I waa polite but I was not accepting what she was saying. She reckoned she need a painter. It was 2 suitcase marks on the doorway. I genuinely feel like she was looking for an excuse to charge me more.
She surprised me by leaving good public review, but then suggestions for next time "damaged property". The property was not damaged. I'm so annoyed that I'd almost ask air bnb to remove my 5 star review altogether. I'd rather her have none than have a good one from me.
Is "suggestions for next time" seen by other hosts? I don't want my good guest profile ruined by a pure lie on her part.

2023.06.02 00:09 afterthemoment Can you get a yeast infection from being wrongly prescribed antibiotics meant to treat it?

I went to urgent care yesterday because I thought I had a UTI. The nurse practitioner sent my urine in and also looked at my discharge. She believed it to be more of a yeast infection and prescribed me fluconazole. Since taking it yesterday, I’ve experienced vaginal itching which I did not have before.. Is it possible to get a yeast infection from medicine meant to treat it if you don’t actually have a yeast infection?!

2023.06.02 00:05 ProjectSame1022 Adult Double Ear Infection

Hi all! I am looking for some advice for what is turning into a double ear infection. Last week I could feel some pain starting in my left ear which continued to worsen. Eventually the pain radiated to my jaw and had pain when opening my mouth. I saw an urgent care doctor online and she prescribed ear drops (Neonycin and hydrocortisone) and antibiotics (Cefdinir 300mg 2x/ day).
I am also taking 150 mg of Zoloft and 75 mg of Wellbutrin. Because of a potential reaction with the Wellbutrin, she prescribed me the Cefdinir instead of Amoxicillin. My left ear has radically improved and is pretty much back to normal. However, the last two days a similar pain has been increasing in my right ear. The pain is not yet as severe as the left, but the ear canal is swollen, warm and painful to the touch, and I have a feeling of fullness and pain radiating into the jaw.
My question is how is the infection continuing to spread despite already taking the antibiotics as prescribed? I’ve used some of the drops in my right ear as well but they don’t seem to be as effective as they were for the other ear where I could actively feel them working the first few uses.
Is this common? I’m sure I’ll need to go have it examined in person, but I’d love some insight.

2023.06.02 00:03 Here_Existing Law for public restrooms?

Hello there. I recently had to urgently use the bathroom at a business establishment where I purchase products, color, etc for my business. (CosmoProf) I am 4 weeks postop into spinal cord stimulator surgery. One of many side effects I’m having is issues with incontinence. I was searching for what I needed for my business and all of a sudden I obviously had some thing to take care of. I asked one of the employees if I could use the bathroom and she said, Sorry we have an employees only bathroom. I explained to her that I have a medical issue where I am unable to hold what I needed to do hold as well….same response. I rushed to check out. I was unable to get a lot of the things that I needed for my job. On top of that I was returning back to the salon for a clients appointment. As I left the store… Well, what your guessing happened happened. As a human being this is beyond embarrassing but extra super super especially if you’re returning back to a job where you work with the public. I had to rush home as fast as I could and change. I was of course late getting back to work for my client, which then set my entire day behind. I feel like this is something absolutely so ridiculous that could’ve been solved so easily. After my colossal novel question is, Is it legal to have a retail business and not have a public restroom? If not, it should be. TIA.

2023.06.02 00:02 snookers1111 I left him on read

We have been NC since February, last thing that we said was
Me: You don’t care about me or breaking my heart. Him: I do care.
Yes via message, we were (are) living in different cities (he moved there for work, I was meant to be moving there with him this September) and being face to face was impossible at the time. This all ended because he finally told me (after him being so distant for months and I finally demanded that he tell me everything there and now) that there was someone else, that he had started a whole other relationship whilst in that other city and strung me along for months instead of telling me the truth and breaking up with me.
I left him on read.
I don’t want to speak to him, I don’t want to look at him (he’s not looking good btw, we have mutuals on ig, I’ve seen recent photos and gawd 😬 the coke habit is really coming along) but sometimes I wish that he would message, just to see if he would actually reach out. Maybe even forbid genuinely say sorry or wonder how I am. I wouldn’t message back, I would restrict his ass, but I’m guessing because I left him on read he won’t.
Or because he’s a dickhead and didn’t actually care about me, just like I suspect.
I’m going with the latter.

I donked up my foot by running on the ATT too much and now I’m in running timeout. Only swimming or biking allowed. I need a gym with lots of bikes where no one will give me side-eye for hogging a bike for 90 minutes. Anywhere spring to mind?
ps EmergeOrtho is great for bone/injury-related urgent care, highly recommend. Had an x-ray within 20 minutes of my appointment (/line place) time.

2023.06.02 00:00 vfe0698 Does this sound like thoracic endo?

Looking for people with similar experience. Before I get into my symptoms just wanna let everyone know I am already seeking medical attention. I went to the urgent care today just for them to be super busy so headed back tomorrow!!
About two days ago I noticed a shooting pain in the right side of my body near my rib cage. I sometimes get something calls precordial catch syndrome and it felt very similar so I did the usual stretching and rubbing routine I do to offset the pain. Usually when I get precordial it last a couple seconds to a few minutes but this time it was lasting for over twenty minutes and was much more painful. Stretching only mildly relieved the pain so I went to lie down but I kept getting that stabbing sensation every time I would breathe, burp, or sneeze. Eventually the pain spread up my shoulder and my back (only on my right side) the rest of the day was very uncomfortable. If I exerted myself by going up the stairs I would experience shortness of breathe with stabbing pain. The less I moved the better so I focused on having good posture and lying down. I decided that if when I woke up the pain had not improved I would go to the ER.
The next morning the pain was less intense (went from around a 7 to a 4). I would get the rib stab sensation when I bent down or made any sudden movements but it was much less painful to breath. The pain was manageable and felt more dull than sharp so it was not as uncomfortable.
Today I’m pretty much fully recovered but was freaked out enough to visit the urgent care. Unfortunately they were backed up so I have to go back tomorrow but I plan or requesting an x-ray and a referral for an ultrasound. (Which i think are the right tests to request??)
I have ALWAYS had pretty awful PMS pain and it is worth mentioning that I am close to my cycle. I have complained about abnormal right side pain near my period to my primary care physician and gyno before; however my pain was pretty much always localized as soreness and tenderness near my right breast. There is a lumpy patch of breast tissue that I got about 4 ultrasounds for and each time they find thick tissue but said this was fairly normal. I have gotten random bouts of pain throughout my right side during PMS before but nothing this prolonged or painful. Does this sound like endo?

2023.06.01 23:43 trillionbuck (20M) Shortness of breath + back pain

Hi everyone! So to get straight to the point I am a 20 year old seemingly healthy male. Two weeks ago I had what seemed to be a panic attack when I woke up, heart pounding, short of breath and thinking I was having a heart attack. This all felt very real to me as my mother just went through a double CABG in January. I went to my cardiologist and had an ECG and Echo done , both normal.
A couple days after my cardiologist visit, i followed up with an urgent care visit where I got my first CXR, radiology report was completely normal with mild scoliosis. Fast forward a couple days and I just felt so short of breath that I felt like I was dying, I ended up in the ER where they did another CXR , ECG and again everything looked normal.
Over the past week since the hospital, the chest pains and pressure have sort of subsided, but I get this weird pains for a couple seconds sometimes in random places in my chest and in my side. I constantly have this sharp pain in my mid back every time I breath, specifically exhale. My PCP said this is probably due to muscle strain from the SOB, he didn’t seem too concerned. I am still short of breath 24/7 feeling like I cannot take a deep breath, and sometimes feeling like I have to catch my breath when doing simple things like pacing around and typing this message. I’ve been having night sweats as well but not like change your sheets bad, just waking up in the morning noticing I’m sweaty. Also these past 2 days I’ve been getting this weird , almost dizzy feeling. I don’t lose my balance I just kinda feel weird vision. Sorry for terrible explanation lol.
I absolutely trust my doctors but I’m kind of at a loss here, as all of them have said anxiety but I just don’t feel anxious, I feel sick. None of the doctors I’ve seen have thought a CT was necessary after the CXR results being normal, Not spitting anything up or have a cough, just the SOB and pain in back.
Just kind of at a loss of what I should do at this point.
Thank you!

2023.06.01 23:42 OperateTitan Work Injury: Get an Attorney?

Work for a company that involves heavy lifting and CDL. Got a head and neck injury. Had a witness, a witness who’s been working for family company for awhile is downplaying everything. I’m trying to get video from the place it happened. I’ve had CT scans and multiple Urgent care and hospital visits in the past couple days. I understand they’re trying to cover their business, but I’m not slimy like them with all the daily red flags they’ve thrown up in just my couple weeks there. I have the cleanest record of all employees there and am drug free but based on how the phone call with the owners went, they don’t seem to understand why I haven’t brought it paperwork or why I can’t remember to do it as if I didn’t receive a head injury. This is the most I’ve been on my phone just writing this because I can’t stare at a screen for long. So should I consult with an attorney incase they try to screw me as they already have with my pay? I just lost trust in them last week due to them going back on a payment agreement I signed up for and this situation is probably making them crap their pants. I couldn’t ever think of hurting a business especially a family run operation, but I do wanna protect myself as I’m going through workers comp and have not been healing like I thought I would and they’re already acting sketchy on me. I’m out of SoCal.

2023.06.01 23:39 sparkof_madness What do I say to the doctor that saved my life?

I was recently hospitalized for viral myocarditis, and I want to say thank you to the doctor that made sure I got the care that I needed. He is not a cardiologist but he made sure that I got urgent care when I needed it. I am making my rounds with all the people that were part of my recovery but this was the man that got the ball rolling and I don’t know where I would be if he hadn’t sent for emergency care “just in case it was something more serious” (which it was.) I want to him to know how thankful I am for his help, but I don’t know what to say (and that’s very rare.) I feel overwhelmed with emotions when I think about the experience and all I can think is how grateful I am but “thank you” doesn’t even begin to cover it. I was hoping for some suggestions on what I could say to really let him know how grateful I am and how important he was in keeping me alive.

2023.06.01 23:36 Mysterious_Sherbet92 Scary symptoms, should I be worried? (Potential pancreatic issues)

Age: 23 Sex: Male Height: 5'7 Weight: 121lbs Race: White Duration of complaint: 4-6 months Location: Lower left back Any existing relevant medical issues: No Current medications: n/a Include a photo if relevant: N/A
Hello everyone, I've been unwell recently and have started to freak myself out while I wait for my abdominal ultrasound on Monday.
To start, I noticed intermittent lower back pain that was hot and stabbing 4-6 months ago. It would come on, last for a few seconds, then stop, then repeat that for 10-20 minutes. It happened 4-5 times and I didn't think too much of it.
Starting last week I have now had constant lower left back pain. In terms of how low, around or slightly higher than belly button. This has came with a fever of 101.8, nausea immediately after eating, and headaches.
This along with a couple severe bouts of hypoglycemia that occurred at the same time (I'm not diabetic) was enough to go to the Urgent care. Urgent care PA said nothing they can do. But took a urine dipstick test just in case. Came back clean. Trace protein, no blood.
This did not satisfy me so I took a CBC and CMP blood lab and scheduled an appointment with my primary care physician. The CBC came back elevated by 15-20% red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit. As well as 1.5mg/dL bilirubin. Everything else normal. My physician couldn't directly diagnose anything so he ordered an Iron test and thyroid test that'll be in tomorrow. He also scheduled an abdominal ultrasound for Monday.
I went to work (today) after the appointment and ate breakfast and noticed an hour after I was again very nauseous, with a gurgling stomach, burping a lot, and seemingly constipated. I'd go to the bathroom every hour just to release gas and let off a slim and smooth stool.
I started researching all the symptoms and am now incredibly worried. Unsure if I should go to the hospital or just wait it out.
I appreciate any help I may get.

2023.06.01 23:34 KeysOfWanda Mary Eve (Louisville, Kentucky 1992 - unidentified decedent)

This was a case mentioned on the Wikipedia article for "List of unidentitified murder victims" which Wikipedia assholefucks deleted, and which there is virtually no documentation anywhere else on the Internet. I think this is the text that was on Wikipedia:
On Christmas Eve 1992 the body of a female infant of possibly mixed race was found in a trash bag in the employee parking lot of oxmoor centre on Shelbyville road in louisville, the mother was never found.

I can find several articles from the Courier-Journal archives on newspapers.com referencing "Mary Eve" from January 1993 that I can not access because they are behind a paywall. But a reddit user apparently posted the contents of one of them a few years ago.
“Story, Page B 1 .5 The mother of the newborn found dead on Christmas Eve "can take comfort in knowing she's our little girl, and we'll take care of her." More than 40 people attended Mary Eve's funeral. Theresa Adams and her husband, James, who arranged for the burial, wept yesterday at the cemetery. Jefferson County coroner, said yesterday that the child had been born healthy and died, probably from cold or suffocation, before being struck by one or more cars. Yesterday police questioned a woman after getting her name from a tipster, but she is not the baby's mother, Louisville police Lt. Gene Sherrard said. They'll continue to pursue every lead, he said. But mourners at the funeral, though curious about the parents, were more concerned with giving Mary Eve a decent burial. Theresa Adams, of Fairdale, said everyone at the service felt a connection to Mary Eve. "Her mother can take comfort in knowing she's our little girl, and well take care of her," she said. See BABY Page 5, col. 1, Family of strangers puts abandoned baby to rest. Some people brought flowers, and a dark-haired woman placed a teddy bear near the tiny, closed bubble casket. The infant who had been found dead Christmas Eve in an Oxmoor Center parking lot, naked but for a plastic trash bag, prompted a police search for the person who put her there. It seemed that no one would claim her. But the 7-pound newborn, named Mary Eve after her death, was surrounded by mourners yesterday at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Jefferson County, Ky. More than 40 strangers gathered to say goodbye. They'd never seen her, but for this day at least, they were her family. "She became our little girl today," said Theresa Adams, who with her husband, James, arranged for the burial.”

This case is of interest to me because I have family in the Louisville area who I used to visit fairly often who lived near Shelbyville Road. The shopping center mentioned in the article, Oxmoor Center, sounds very familiar, I think I may have been there once years ago. Clearly this happened in the area of Louisville where my relatives live.
Has anyone tried to find out more on this? With all the old cases being solved recently due to genetic genealogy (some of which I was thinking would never be solved) I was hoping to hear this one was too, but as long as nobody remembers it and virtual all traces or mentions are gone, nobody will even bother trying to solve this one.

2023.06.01 23:33 Large-Setting7255 CA, US URGENT Medical staff trying to pressure family into letting family member go

Hi everyone! This is an urgent question and posting on behalf of someone else.
There is a family friend that suffered a stroke and medical staff told family there was nothing further they could do and that the family should make a decision. Since then the patient has moved and opened their eyes. Family has also noted that the breathing changes when they speak to them as if they can hear them PATIENT IS BREATHING ON THEIR OWN. It seems that the hospital is refusing to do any further studies/exams since then as well as refusing to continue to treat the patient. It seems like an effort to let the patient go. Family is trying to locate alternative care/treatment, in the meantime is there something they can do???
Thanks
