2023.03.20 23:32 Jazzlike_Worker4924 Best Router 2023

Figuring out what the best router for your needs can be complicated. We've tested the top Wi-Fi router brands so you can find the right one for your needs.

Take a look at this list: https://quizience.com/best-wi-fi-routers-for-2022/

TP-Link Archer AX21
Best budget router

Wi-Fi Standard

Wi-Fi 6

Speed Rating

AX1800

Range

Up to 2,500 sq. ft.

Wireless Networking Security

WPA3

Bands

Dual-Band (2.4 and 5GHz)

Available for $100 (or less if you catch a sale), the TP-Link Archer AX21 is an entry-level, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router that supports top speeds of up to 1,201Mbps (1.2Gbps) on its 5GHz band. It's nothing fancy, but it offered near flawless performance for small- to medium-size homes in our tests, and it's a cinch to setup and use thanks to TP-Link's Tether app.

Best of all, when tested against other, similar routers from names like Asus and Netgear, the AX21 held its own with faster download speeds, better range, and low latency, too. Add in a functional bandsteering mode that automatically steers you between the 2.4 and 5GHz bands within a single network, plus guest network controls and even a quality of service engine for prioritizing traffic to the most important devices on your network, and you're looking at a decent home networking upgrade that's as simple and affordable as it gets. It isn't powerful enough to max out speeds on a gigabit network, but it can still hit consistent close-range speeds near 700Mbps or so, which is more than enough for most households. Read our TP-Link Archer AX21 review.

Linksys Hydra Pro 6 (MR5500)
Best midrange router

Wi-Fi Standard

Wi-Fi 6

Speed Rating

AX5400

Range

Up to 2,700 sq. ft.

Wireless Networking Security

WPA2, WPA3

Bands

Dual-Band (2.4 and 5GHz)

If you've already got a budget router running your network and you're ready to upgrade to something more powerful, the Linksys Hydra Pro 6 belongs high on your list. With a dual-band, AX5400 build, full support for Wi-Fi 6, and 160MHz channel support for moving data more efficiently, it was an excellent performer in my speed tests, even managing to outperform flashier picks like the also great Asus RT-AX86U.

The Hydra Pro 6 is a touch pricey as dual-band routers go, but the steady, consistent performance makes it a standout. Try and catch it on sale if you can, but if you just want a reliable, no-frills router that can keep up with gigabit speeds, look no further. Read our Linksys Hydra Pro 6 review.

TP-Link Deco W7200
Best mesh router overall

Wi-Fi Standard

Wi-Fi 6

Speed Rating

AX3600

Range

Up to 5,500 sq. ft. (two devices)

Wireless Networking Security

WPA2, WPA3

Bands

Tri-Band (2.4 and two 5GHz)

For the best performance from your mesh router, you'll want to prioritize getting one with support for Wi-Fi 6, plus a tri-band design that includes three separate bands of traffic: the usual 2.4 and 5GHz bands, plus an additional 5GHz band that the system can use as a dedicated wireless backhaul for transmissions between the router and its satellites. Most mesh routers like that cost at least $300 or even $400, but the TP-Link Deco W7200 gets you there for less than $250.

That's the best deal I've seen for a tri-band mesh router with support for Wi-Fi 6 -- and sure enough, it's an excellent performer, as well. In fact, the only system that managed to outperform it outright in my at-home speed tests is the AX6000 version of Netgear Orbi, which costs more than three times as much (keep reading for more on that one). On top of that, TP-Link's setup process is about as easy as it gets, with satellite extenders that automatically join the mesh as soon as you plug them in. Read our TP-Link Deco W7200 review.

Asus RT-AX86U
Best gaming router

Wi-Fi standard

Wi-Fi 6

Speed Rating

AX5700

Range

Up to 2,500 sq. ft.

Wireless Networking Security

WPA3

Bands

Dual-Band (2.4 and 5GHz)

Gaming routers promise high performance and low latency for die-hard gamers, and it isn't uncommon to find them selling for $300 or even $400. At about $270 or less, the Asus RT-AX86U dual-band router isn't inexpensive either, but it's a strong value relative to routers like those -- and the performance it delivers as a gaming router is flat-out great.

Most noteworthy is the router's latency management. In fact, it leads all of the routers I've ever tested, gaming or otherwise, with the lowest average latency across all of my tests, which online gamers will definitely appreciate. Something else you'll appreciate: An excellent mix of app-based controls and features, including a mobile boost mode, that lets you prioritize gaming traffic to your phone at the touch of a button.

Gaming features aside, the RT-AX86U offers full support for Wi-Fi 6, with strong, stable speeds and good range. If you need additional range, you can add other Asus "AIMesh" devices to your home network to make it the centerpiece of a mesh.

That checks off all of the boxes that most people want from a good gaming router, and it gets you there at a price that isn't too painful for us to recommend. Even if you aren't a gamer, this is still one of the best Wi-Fi 6 routers you can buy right now. Read our list of the best gaming routers.

2023.03.20 23:32 Tillmedic Bunch of Questions.

3 person family going on the Fantasy in October. All 3 adults, no kids.
Is there any way to get Wifi on the ship that you don’t have to pay for?
May be a stupid question but for the Adult only rooms you don’t have to show ID do you? I’m 21 and I’m not going to be bringing or drinking alcohol at all. I just don’t want be be around screaming kids.
So all the little cafes, buffets and outside food places (not bars) are free? Just not the indoor, sit down restaurants.
Anyone have a photo of the Standard 3-person Stateroom? I’m having trouble telling which kind of room I’m looking at when I look it up on Google. That’s the one we’re getting since the Deluxe is $400 extra.
Since we’re going on Fantasy, I saw on the Menu “Ships” page saying “AFT helpers”. I know AFT means back of the boat but whats an aft helper?
I don’t have a fish extender and doubt I’ll buy one. Are there any other gift exchange things like it?

2023.03.20 23:27 WPL_Eightix options/volume profile

Humbly I have little to no experience coding. I've tried to write this code 20 different ways but cannot seem to get there, my goals are:
  1. current trading price of ticker
  2. define option delta (for example .10 or higher if trading spx)
  3. define max strikes (20)
  4. define date (ODTE)
  5. this is where it gets 'fun' - i want to see the volume of these contracts horizontally on the chart of the ticker - for example today there were 61,534 calls and 21,919 puts for 3950. ideally i would like to see 20 strikes - if it's possible i would like to have calls on the right and puts on the left - or just to see calls on the right. ideally this would look similar to volume profile at the strike price of the underlying.

2023.03.20 23:23 10throwawayantsy How to help friend with ED? TW

My friend we will call Jana has really disordered eating. She used to be blatantly bulimic(apparently not anymore), now she is just disordered. We are in our 20s btw.
Jana had a myriad of random health problems that don't make sense, like random kidney infections, acid reflux, severe facial bloating even though she isn't overweight, random muscle pain, idk. Chronic issues. She's unhealthy.
Here is what she does not eat:
  1. Gluten (at all), so no bread or pasta
  2. Soy (she is "allergic" but this means she will get a pimple)
  3. Any kind of meat because it's "too heavy"
  4. Chickpeas/beans
  5. Most dairy, until recently
  6. Bananas/avocados (for a time period)
I will say, Jana definitely binges in secret, because while she isn't overweight, she's not underweight. What that food is, I don't know.
Jana won't notify events of her dietary restrictions and gets upset when when they don't have food catered towards her, she gets upset that a restaurant "doesnt have options for her" before she even looks at the menu. Jana talks about her dietary restrictions/mostly-made up allergies once every other hour, it's almost an obsessive topic of conversation for her. I say mostly made up because it may be an intolerance, but definitely nothing more. She doesn't have an EpiPen, coeliacs, or any other kind of serious disease.
It's extremely annoying to travel or go anywhere with Jana to a degree, because she self-restricts and gets upset that she's hungry and can't eat. I don't know what to do. It's also just really unfortunate because her body keeps malfunctioning, in my opinion, to tell her she's grossly unhealthy, and she's blatantly ignoring it

2023.03.20 23:22 Glass-Bobcat9926 Best Router 2023

2023.03.20 23:21 Badditor90 Hypothetical Situation: Someone is Forcing Apple's hand

Imagine yourself as Tim Cook for a moment, and you have enjoyed the experience of being Apple's CEO for a while now.
However, something on social media has gone viral, a guy is using his influence to get people to stop buying iPhone's and iPads and Apple Watches, etc, his main "Tagline" is "Force Apple into lowering the prices of their products so EVERYONE can afford an iPhone", at first you focus on those who WILL buy Apple Products, regardless of what this guy is saying, however.
The brand new iMac's, iPads, Apple Watch's, MacBooks, Homepods and pretty much any product Apple Sells has had a noticeable decrease in sales vs tech from Apple's early days, this guy clearly has a great deal of influence and he is clearly forcing your hand.
For Reference just from iPhone 14 to 15 alone, sales dropped to mere thousands, iPads dropped to mere hundreds, MacBook's and iMacs combined, mere tens, for Apple the situation has JUST become dire.
Then the guy in another video says this at the end of it
"Face facts Tim Cook, your a greedy, corrupt individual who will NEVER be Steve Jobs, your products never have enough in them to justify the high cost, competitors add far more and for a far more affordable price, if you wanna bring Apple out of the dump, your products prices need to change, iPhone 16 Pro Max, $300USD, iPad Pro 12.9", $600USD, Apple Watch, $150USD, a fully speced out iMac, $1,200USD, MacBook, $1,200USD, need I go on?, the sales figures have spoken, and so have the people, one choice, Apple goes Bankrupt, or Apple prices their products to cater to EVERYONE'S Weekly Paycheck"
As Tim Cook, how would you Respond to this?

2023.03.20 23:17 Dovvol79 New build for a beginner for $1,200 max.

I've never built a computer before, so this makes me a little nervous, but I know most times you can get a better bang for your buck out of building yourself. I know just enough about computers to get myself in trouble, so I figured I'd come ask some professionals for advice. Any words of encouragement would be appreciated as well.

  1. >**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**
  2. I'd like to be able to play games on high settings without it stuttering. Games like Hogwarts Legacy, CoD, RDR2 online and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Will do some light streaming on discord from time to time to show friends what I'm playing, but nothing over the 720p. Will also be using Microsoft office sometimes for work.
  3. >**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**
  4. Max would be around $1,000 - $1,200. Cheaper if possible.
  5. >**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
  6. Within a month. Waiting on a couple paychecks.
  7. >**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**
  8. I just need the tower set up.
  9. >**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**
  10. I'm in Ohio. Nearest Microcenter is a couple hours away.
  11. >**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**
  12. Mouse and Keyboard are Logitec. Monitors are HP and Dell. I plan on replacing those later.
  13. >**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**
  14. Never overclocked before, so probably not. Not 100% sure how, honestly.
  15. >**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
  16. I would like an SSD or an NVME drive. At least 1 or 2T. Not sure if an HDD drive is good to have as a back up or not. I'm still learning about the drives. I do download most of my games through Steam.
  17. >**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
  18. A plain Jane case without lights would be just fine, though I would like a black case.
  19. >**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**
  20. I will need windows. Not sure on the difference between 10 or 11.
  21. I would love to have a build that has a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or the 3060 Ti. It seems to be a good card for the price. I do want to be able to keep using dual monitors though. I don't care much about the difference between AMD or Icore processors. I would like to be able to upgrade components later if needed.

Figuring out what the best router for your needs can be complicated. We've tested the top Wi-Fi router brands so you can find the right one for your needs.

2023.03.20 23:13 smalltownbarista Advice for new grad student: loans and budgeting in general

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, but I thought I would try my hand and ask for some advice here. I’m about to graduate from college (F22) and I’m heading to grad school in NYC. My biggest questions are:
Am I setting myself up for success, total failure, or somewhere in between? How much in student loans should I take out, and what should my plan for the future be with them? What’s a good general budget, and what am I forgetting?
Some caveats: assume I’ll be net-zero from now until this summer, and starting in this place come September 1.
Currently: I have about $18k in savings. I work a part-time job that will be ending in May. I take home about $800/month, and can make up to $500 a month with side gigs (although it’s usually less). I’m not planning on getting a job this next year so I can focus on school, and will only be making income from side gigs, which maybe average $200 a month if I’m hustling a lot.
Expenses: I’m lucky enough to have recieved a full tuition scholarship for my program (which is three years long), so my main cost is housing. Luckily, my program offers below-market university housing, which I’m planning on applying for.
My options are a studio apartment for around $1,500 or a one-bedroom for $2100. They come fully furnished and include all utilities except cable (which I don’t need) and phone (I’m still on my parents’ plan). I’d prefer the one-bedroom, since I plan on having lots of visitors and would like some more space after living in a dorm room for four years, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it, financially. They also have a limited number of one-bedrooms, so there’s a chance I wouldn’t get one and would be placed in a studio anyways.
I technically have $2500 in student loans from undergrad, but my parents are either going to pay for it or wait for it to be forgiven. Other than that, there is no debt to my name. I pay of my credit cards in full every month and have a credit score in the mid-700s.
I have a Roth IRA with almost $8k in it (I maxxed it out last year but haven’t yet this year. Do you think I should max it out with funds from my savings, or not?). I try to put in $20 a month just to add a little in. I also have an individual brokerage account with $400 in it that I’m trying to sit on, and I add a little bit to it ($25/quarterly) from time to time, but I don’t really know what I’m doing. Happy to take any advice here. I don’t have any 401(k)s or anything else.
Other expenses: Food: How much should I budget a month? I’m planning on cooking for myself, maybe going out or ordering takeout a few times a month. Living in Manhattan so I know it’s expensive…
Health insurance: I’m on my parents’ health insurance still, but it has a high deductible so any expenses of mine are essentially full price. I’m physically pretty healthy, but am medicated for depression and ideally would like to see a therapist every week or every other week. My parents split that cost with me right now, so it costs me about $30/visit. How much should I budget for general medical costs, knowing my parents would help me out if it was something serious/we usually hit our deductible halfway through the year?
Recreation: What’s a “normal” amount to budget for recreation? Is $500 a month crazy? I like going to bars/clubs, would love to see some Broadway shows, etc…
Other: What am I totally forgetting to include?
Thank you all for your help!

2023.03.20 23:10 ThorTheTroll Might be in over my head? Please help!

Hello!
So, just a quick background: I normally work as a shipscook which means three hot meals a day for between 9 and 17 people. No plating, no tickets, just put the food out and let people put whatever they want on their plate.

I've recently gotten into business for myself and hire myself out to make food for groups (think students on a class trip etc.) so it's usually the same as my job on a ship.

Yesterday I got asked to make dinner and dessert with individual plates for a group of 6 people which is easily managed since I know what I serve, every plate is the same and the food needs to be ready at the same time. Pretty similar to what I already do.
The company that hired me was very satisfied with my work and now wants me to work a weekend in a small restaurant they own that is rigged with two induction hotplates, an electric griddle and three deepfryers and asked me to make a small menu with what I got.
The menu I've come up with is with three different burgers and a fish and chips with mushy peas and a salad. They loved the idea.
And here comes my question: how the HECK do you work in a restaurant / grill alone in the kitchen, dealing with tickets and keeping track of fry times etc when working with several dishes at once? What traps may I fall into, what do I not do / what do I do? How do I make sure everything comes out consistently and on time? Do I do several tickets at once or do I do them one at a time?
Bear in mind, I have no formal education, I'm just passionate about making good food and so far I've done pretty well for myself.
Thanks in advance,
ThorTheTroll.
