No Fap and Jazz Mastery
2023.06.07 10:06 Temporary_Jeweler_44 No Fap and Jazz Mastery
How’s it hanging fellas. I know us jazzers like our jollies, but I’ve got some knowledge to lay on ya.
You’ve got to channel the energies you waste on sexual activities into jazz. You play a horn? You’re playing the wrong horn if you haven’t signed on to no fap.
I talked to Bird the other day, just called him up on the grapevine up to Cloud Vanguard. I asked him for some knowledge. You know what he said to me? He said: “how you gunna bust out some sick lines over Giant Steps at 250 if you’ve already bust?” He then went on to tell me that when he got rejected from that first cutting session, he was worse than a Wall Street stroker—we’re talking 6-7 times a day. He said to me: “brotha, if you keep slapin Johnson, how will you slap dat bass?”
I don’t even play bass, I play guitar. I told him: “yo, man. I don’t play bass. I play guitar.”
“How you gunna be bumpin on sunset if you choke the chicken? Your hand muscles will be so tight that you’ll break a G string fingering A Minor.”
GAWT damn. I ain’t never think of it that way before fellas.
I’ve gone 1 hour and I already play the changes better.

Phish, Thursday 06/07/2012 (11 years ago) DCU Center, Worcester, MA, USA
Gap Chart, Tour: 2012 Early Summer Tour
Set 1 : Buried Alive > Runaway Jim > Torn and Frayed , Funky Bitch , The Moma Dance > Rift , Nothing , Ocelot , Beauty of a Broken Heart , Possum , Rocky Top
Set 2 : Carini -> Taste > Ghost > Boogie On Reggae Woman > If I Could , Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn) > Harry Hood > Cavern > Buried Alive Reprise
Encore : Loving Cup
Jamchart Notes:
Possum - Unusual jam which breaks into very un-"Possum"-like sections at 6:00 and again at 7:00. Not typical at all, but very exploratory for "Possum."
Carini - Deploying an array of instruments and effects, including the theremin and bass effects, the band uses these tools to create a lush, densely textured and largely upbeat jam which -> to "Taste."
Taste - -> in from a excellent "Carini." Page is great in this version, which is also features Trey playing both a "Norwegian Wood" tease early in his solo, as well as the "NICU" riff signaling the concluding section. > to a strong "Ghost."
Boogie On Reggae Woman - Segues out of "Ghost" and includes some serious hose from Trey and reaches several satisfying peaks. Drops back into a funk groove for the last minute and the jam fades away into "If I Could".
If I Could - > in from a powerful "Boogie On." Heartfelt and thoughtfully executed version adds a graceful ending to an impressive string of improvisational music.
Show Notes:
Runaway Jim included a Buried Alive tease, Possum included a Beauty of a Broken Heart tease and Taste included a Norwegian Wood tease (all from Trey). If I Could was last played on November 21, 2009 (102 shows).

Gap Chart, Tour: 2011 Early Summer Tour
Set 1 : Llama , The Moma Dance > Possum , Cities , Instant Karma! , David Bowie , Rhymes 1 , Divided Sky , Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan
Set 2 : Back on the Train > Rock and Roll > The Mango Song , Bug , Pebbles and Marbles , Halley's Comet > Meatstick > Run Like an Antelope
Encore : Suzy Greenberg
1 Phish debut.
Jamchart Notes:
Divided Sky - Determined to make up for some serious flubs in the 5/31/11 version, Trey in this instance introduces some very cool and very different staccato playing during the jam section.
Rock and Roll - Another excellent version with an extended jam that at various times is rhythmic, melodic, spacious, and powerful. Segue to "Mango Song" continues to draw praise from fans.
Show Notes:
This show marked the Phish debut of Rhymes. Antelope contained Meatstick, Bug, and Divided Sky teases. Suzy also contained Meatstick teases. After Bug, the crowd chanted "Let's Go Bruins" prompting the band to play in rhythm with the crowd's clapping. During the "Rye Rye Rocco" segment of Antelope, Trey introduced Fish as "Ladies and Gentlemen, on cymbal, Jon Fishman!" after he had missed the band's unified stop in the song.

Gap Chart, Tour: 2009 Early Summer Tour
Set 1 : Chalk Dust Torture , Fee , Wolfman's Brother , Guyute , My Sweet One , 46 Days , The Lizards , The Wedge , Strange Design , Tube , First Tube
Set 2 : Sand , Suzy Greenberg , Limb By Limb , The Horse > Silent in the Morning , Sugar Shack 1 , Character Zero > Tweezer
Encore : Joy 1 , Bouncing Around the Room , Run Like an Antelope > Tweezer Reprise
1 Debut.
Jamchart Notes:
Fee - Like 7/5/98, a vocal flub leads to an extended outro jam that quickly moves beyond the norm. Page's ambient effects and Trey's use of the whammy pedal combine to create a jam reminiscent of the late '90's sound.
Sand - One of the first great jams of 3.0. This version contains an old-school groove which goes "type 2" via a funk jam and an uplifting conclusion by way of a repetitive, descending riff from Trey.
Tweezer - The "Camden Tweezer." Old school, repetitive, amazing groove. Like a '92-'94 version.
Show Notes:
After forgetting the lyrics to Fee, Trey remarked that "We knew this one backstage." This show marked the debuts of Sugar Shack and Joy. Before the extended encore, Trey asked, "You guys in a rush to go anywhere?" He then talked about how much they had enjoyed the northeast run and that they wanted to play a few more songs before heading south (though he was careful to note that they love the south, too).

Phish, Wednesday 06/07/1995 (28 years ago) BSU Pavilion, Boise, ID, USA
Gap Chart, Tour: 1995 Summer Tour
Set 1 : Possum , Weigh , Taste 1 , Strange Design , Stash , If I Could > Scent of a Mule , The Wedge , Funky Bitch , Slave to the Traffic Light
Set 2 : Ha Ha Ha > Maze , Spock's Brain , Theme From the Bottom , Hold Your Head Up > Lonesome Cowboy Bill 2 > Hold Your Head Up , Acoustic Army 1 , Sample in a Jar , Harry Hood , Suzy Greenberg
Encore : While My Guitar Gently Weeps
1 Debut. 2 Fish on trombone.
Jamchart Notes:
Possum - Several sections have a bleak and desolate tone, especially from 4:30 - 5:45, but the foreboding sentiment returns later.
Taste - Debut. Jam section features the same spiraling Trey and Page musicianship, but the lyrics, vocalist, and ending would remain a work in progress for another year. "The Fog That Surrounds" and "Taste That Surrounds" are both very similar (related) songs performed in 1995 as the band tinkered with the format for "Taste." See the song history for "Taste" on this site for more information.
The Wedge - "The Wedge" reemerges to close a 135 show gap. Notable principally for the now-familiar Fish-driven intro, this compact version also features cool and confident play from Trey.
Theme From the Bottom - Jam section has an unusual, repeated descending chord progression. At 8:20, it morphs into a creepy, nerve-rattling jam, returning to "Theme" proper at 9:55. The quality versions from 6/25/95 and 7/1/95 have a similar descending chord structure.
Show Notes:
This show marked the debuts of Taste and Acoustic Army. Trey teased Lazy in Possum. The Wedge was played for the first time since August 20, 1993 (135 shows). Lonesome Cowboy Bill featured Fish on trombone. Suzy included an Entrance of the Gladiators tease from Trey.

Set 2 : My Sweet One , Dinner and a Movie > Bouncing Around the Room > Tweezer , Uncle Pen , Divided Sky , Hold Your Head Up 1 > Love You 2 > Hold Your Head Up , Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove
Encore : Lawn Boy > Big Black Furry Creature from Mars
1 Fish on trombone at the end. 2 Fish on trombone.
Jamchart Notes:
Tweezer - Crazy, long early version. At one point Mike sounds like he will break into into "Heartbreaker."
Weekapaug Groove - Dissonant jam with lots of "DEG"-like jamming.
Show Notes:
The Chase was played for the first time since October 26, 1989 (108 shows). The end of the first HYHU and Love You featured Fish on trombone. The opening act was The Aquarium Rescue Unit.

So I picked up an acoustic bass at a yard sale, been messing around with it but nothing sounds quite right. Maybe it’s operator error. I wanted to try an electric one. I’d like to be able to play any type of music. I like rock music but also hip hop and I like the sounds of jazz bass.
My company does those rewards points and I have some points saved. Are any of these good?

2023.06.07 05:04 popoi98 Removing paint from jazz bass so I can stain
Hey y’all, I got a little starcaster jazz bass for free, I figured I’d remove the current paint on it and get it down to the wood so that I could stain it. What all should I be prepared to do to get the job done? I bought a heat gun and was going to go that route. After the paint is removed I guess I should remove the sealant so that I can stain. What’s the best way to do that?

2023.06.07 02:48 littleninja3 Orange Crush bass 25 or Fender Rumble 40?
So my old 15w Cort amp finally died and I need to buy a new one for rehearsals and acoustic gigs. My budget is $300 USD. Found both of these online for the same price ($290). I think the rumble is more useful because it has an overdrive, a line out and is very light. But I've tried some orange amps before and I just love the tone. Which one would you go for?

2023.06.06 23:41 Itooh_ Here is the dynamic soundtrack I wrote for my upcoming rhythm game
| It is a progressive song composed of 6 layers that will evolve along the player progression. You can listen to a demo here. The whole song in Waveform If you want to know more about it, I've documented the process in a devlog. The short version is: I'v started this year to work solo on Sound Horizons, a minimalist rhythm game with procedural generation. It creates rhythmic melodies on the fly, and every player's actions make musical notes. Along with a progressive soundtrack, the game aims to provide a unique interactive musical experience! It is actually the remake of a game I have already made some years ago in Godot. The goal of this version is to have an improved version, with better 3D graphics, a richer soundtrack, and better accessibility. Back in March I was able to recreate the first game with Unity and Wwise. Well, it still lacks the visuals. But here is basically how it plays: The circle in the center is both a progression bar and a health bar With the prototype working, I've spent the last few months working on the music. Making the music this early might seem odd, but I believe it makes sense for a rhythm game. Because composition has a direct impact on the difficulty, it's basically level-design. Plus, as you might have guess, this game has a strong focus on music, it will make most of its identity. For visuals especially, the way I work is I need to set a mood in order to create art that reflects the music. I don't know if I'm the only one prioritizing music and sound-design? Or maybe it's because most of my games involve generative music. Anyway, it's almost the first time I work on a song of that scope! It's pretty short (4 sections of 8 bars each), but since it has several layers, there was a lot of variations to find and instruments to use. I usually write short loops for one mood, so it was a pretty cool exercise to play the same chords in several different ways! My main inspiration was Jaga Jazzist, particularly their song Oban. The idea was to have a piece with strong rhythmic, but slow motifs, so that the game feels intense but not too fast. Most instruments you hear play background chords or rhythmic patterns: the melody will mostly be played by the player themselves! I'm very happy with the result, so I had to show it somewhere. ^^' Now I have to export it and implement it in Wwise. I already have every logic in place, so I know what I'll have to do. It will mostly take time… And then I will finally be able to work on the visual aspect, which should finally allow me to share more interesting screenshots of the game! :D I hope you found this reading interesting. submitted by Itooh_ to IndieDev [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 23:31 XGeneralZod The Mods to my Bass so far
| I play an Ibanez Mezzo 32” Sea Foam green Bass. The 32” scale is much easier on the hands in my opinion. It doesn’t require so much stretching from the hands especially playing the low notes and playing chord type things. I added an Aguilar OBP-3TK preamp. If you are installing a preamp I recommend getting it pre wired. That will save a lot of time and heart ache. I added Dimarzio Relentless P bass pickups. These are very high output. Combined with the preamp. This bass is a high performance machine. I have crafted my tone over the years to be a exactly the way it is now. I still want to put a silver jazz bridge pickup in. Right now it’s just some old extra pickup I had laying around. And I want to add silver knobs and Hip Shot Ultralight for tuners eventually. At that point I think the Bass will be finished. Unless your Bass sounds fantastic right out of the box i recommend everyone change out everything on your Bass to make it precisely to your specifications. submitted by XGeneralZod to BassGuitar [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 22:30 Surf_N_Space Do I ditch the Sansamp?
Howdy y’all. I currently have a Fender Rumble head and run a Sansamp BDDI v2 preamp, Darkglass B3K, and a Keeley bass compressor. I’m not in love with my head and have been looking to replace with a Fender Bassman 800 or even a Darkglass Microtubes 900 v2. Something with a little higher end tone and tube sound. Do I ditch the pedals and go for better head with some more control or will my Sansamp do a better job with tone control/distortion than those heads will in particular? The DG has the b3k and VMT circuitry and a compressor knob, but the Fender Bassman 800 has a tube preamp. Let me know what you all think, no bad answers.

2023.06.06 21:55 futureEDMguy 7Hz Salnotes Zero (EQd) vs Tangzu Wan'er (EQd), which would be a better choice?
Salnotes Zero- I have listened to the Zeros before and I found the bass too weak in them but the mid and high frequency response was exceptional. Q. Have you tried them while EQing them and giving them a low shelf boost? How do they sound then? Does doing this have any negative effect on the mids or the highs?
Tangzu Wan'er- I did some more research and found that Tangzu Wan'er has a better low end response but the highs are not as detailed as that in Salnotes. So maybe giving some boost to a few high frequencies would make these sound even better? Q. Same as with zero, have you tried using EQ on the Tangzu Wan'er, and what difference did it create to these earphones?
Wild Card- I've heard KZ ZVX has better technicalities as compared to the Wan'er (than Zeros too ig, but I'm not exactly sure on this), but they have a metallic sounding and sharp high-end. Q. How would an EQ perform on these?
Usecase- I want an IEM (under 30$) that offers a balanced sound, as I will be using them as my secondary mixing earphones (I produce and mainly listen to EDM) besides my Beyerdynamics 990 Pro headphones. I also want them to have a MIC, so that I can take any meetings through them too. I will also be using them for listening to genres other than Dubstep (EDM), like rap, jazz, and instrumental, and will also need it to listen to my college lectures on my laptop.
Any thoughts on the above would be really appreciated. TIA

2023.06.06 20:40 TheReconditioner [GEAR] Bronco Bass project, pots for hot rail
A friend and myself found someone who wants to learn bass for our band. We lent him my Fender Mexican P-Bass but being that he's just beginning and will want his own bass we are thinking of modding out a Bronco bass for under $220. I'll be doing all the wiring myself, and replacing all the old wires at that. For a budget build, this thing is going to kick some ass.
I already picked out a Wilkinson strat middle position low gauss hot rail but I'm wondering what pots to use for volume and tone. 250k and 500k respectively? I'm no stranger to soldering but I don't know anything about pots. Any input is greatly appreciated.

2023.06.06 20:19 berr140 First Bass: MM Stingray v. Fender PJ/J
I’ve been looking around for a first bass and finally narrowed it down to a MusicMan Stingray, Fender PJ or J. I’ve been looking at used basses, but found a brand new Sterling Ray34 for the same price as a used model ($635 including tax). Thoughts? Should I keep looking or just buy?
