2023.06.04 00:03 GroundbreakingJob281 Sound Bar surround vs Traditional Receiver surround and Dolby Atmos

I am looking for a home theatre solution and I am a little overwhelmed. Well more of a "home cinema" solution if you will. Right now I have my eyes on the Samsung Q990C, which is ranked as number one for the best surround sound bar system, and the Bose 900 sound bar + Bass Module and satellite speakers which was ranked 1 by rtings as number 1 before the Samsung one came out.
However, there are also non soundbar solutions such as the Enclave CineHome PRO 5.1 THX certified system or the Klipsch referecne 5.1 line of speakers. What are the advantages of a sound bar surround vs a traditional receiver based speaker setup?
Also I think I want a Dolby Atmos system but there are receiver based systems like the Enclave that do not support it, but some Klipsch and Polk do. The Klipsch Reference Premiere line does not say that they are Dolby Atmos compatible but the normal Klipsch reference line says that some of the systems do have Dolby Atmos. I do not understand this since the Premiere line is more expensive. Dolby Atmos is a virtual surround technology so does it matter if a traditional receiver based surround sound does not support it since the receiver based systems surround you with dedicated channels through drivers firing at you anyway?
All things considered, I am looking for a premium surround experience with a 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 setup with Dolby Atmos, and a $2500 budget. My use case is 60% movies/tv, 20% music, and 20% gaming.

2023.06.03 23:59 TheKrister2 Anyone encountered the volume slider popup/overlay not matching the machine's actual audio levels?

Here's a small gif of what I'm talking about:
When I change the volume, a small popup appears with that shows the current audio level. I think they call it the OSD? Or maybe that's just the module or whatever. Regardless, the volume overlay doesn't actually show the correct value. The KDE system settings does though. When the system settings report 0% audio (the machine does not produce audio) the volume slider is still at 95%, though, if I keep pressing the audio decreasing buttons on my keyboard, it eventually goes down. When I increase it, the system settings show it normally, while the overlay goes from like 0 to a hundred real fast lol.
Does anyone know where the configuration files for this are placed? I want to try removing them, to see if it's just an issue with a higher value being saved than is supposed to or something. Or have anyone encountered this before and solved it? I wasn't able to find anything that fit my issue specifically.
Found one bug that was similar on the lock screen, but they fixed that upstream, so little information for my smooth brain to go on. Others didn't have quite the same issues (some just don't want 'em), but recommended just turning it off, but I wanna keep it.
It's a relatively fresh install, though on an old macbook pro 10,1. No actual problems with playing audio, just the overlay.

2023.06.03 23:58 thirdstringyeetteam Mac Pro 2010 5,1 Random Shutdown

Hello Reddit!
I'm at my wits end here but my Mac Pro randomly shut down for no apparent reason. After it shutdown by itself pressing the power button to turn it back on again does nothing. No response as if it weren't plugged in.
My first thought was a power supply issue so i replaced it. After the replacement the machine still didn't turn on when the power button was pressed. I waited a couple of days then decided to try to fix it again so I plugged it back into the wall and pressed the power button and the machine started up no problem. It ran perfectly for about 10 minutes then decided to shut down again and again pressing the power button does nothing.
I checked the little LED lights on the back board and when the button is pressed the 5V indicator light illuminates so I know the board is getting power. I stripped the machine down to only the basics of operation. I removed everything that was plugged into the machine other than a mouse and keyboard. I removed the CPU tray and re-seated both CPUs with new thermal paste.
After re-seating the CPUs the machine turned on only this time it did it itself as soon as I plugged in the power cable. Again it only stayed on for about 10 minutes before it shut down and as I am typing this the power button does nothing when pressing it.
Also, I changed the 3V coin battery on the back board.
If anyone has any info on how to resolve this issue it would be greatly appreciated. I have searched google and tried everything that any forum topic has mentioned trying yet I am still stuck.

2023.06.03 23:57 Caulibflower Defending the Draft: Seattle Seahawks

Seattle’s 2023 class represents the second half of a draft-based reload which began last year, after the Seahawks finally admitted they were suffocating Russell Wilson and traded him to Denver so that he could fulfill his destiny. We were left with an unevenly-talented but surprisingly feisty roster which outperformed expectations all the way into the playoffs.
Our front office has been candid about some of its past mistakes in the draft, the most glaring of which have come when the team goes for need over talent. Last year, with the first half of our extra draft picks, we focused on acquiring as much talent as possible, rather than trying to address specific holes. The 2023 draft is very similar in that regard. In free agency, the team was restrained but practical, and added a few mid-range players to ensure a baseline of competency at the most problematic positions. This allowed them even more flexibility and leeway to be aggressive about drafting for talent.
What Seattle wants to be in 2023: I believe that Seattle would have loved to take Anthony Richardson, but the price to trade up was clearly too high. BUT - this is also a testament to the faith that they have in Geno Smith. They were not going to give up multiple first round picks when they think that Geno’s ceiling includes the potential for a Super Bowl run. I believe that is how the front office is looking at this team: They have a boatload of high draft picks over the last two years, which means an unusual number of blue chip prospects on cheap contracts. They also have a QB who has far outplayed his expectations, and if he can continue playing to even a similar level in 2023, will be outplaying his updated contract as well. I do think that Seattle has tried to take the burden off of Geno with the way that they drafted - but again, this has always been Pete Carroll’s philosophy. Pete Carroll doesn’t want the team to live or die on the arm of the quarterback. So, Seattle drafted to make every other part of the roster stronger and more competitive.
1.05) Devon Witherspoon - CB, Illinois
While I haven’t made much of Seattle’s needs, it’s obvious to anyone who watches the Seahawks that the defense needs dramatic improvement for this team to reach the next level. Tariq Woolen was a huge surprise as a rookie and a breakout star at right cornerback, but Seattle lacked an obvious answer on the opposite side. Devon Witherspoon is a true tone-setter for the defense as well as the perfect complement to Tariq at left cornerback. Where Tariq is supremely long, fast and fluid, Devon Witherspoon is smaller but more in-your-face. He’s violent, which is an unusual as well as a very exciting trait to list among the first attributes of a cornerback. The speed at which he triggers and the force with which he strikes ballcarriers are special for the position, and that physicality is especially welcome on the left side where he’ll be playing. But he’s also an adept cover man who posted great ball production in college (3 picks and 14 passes broken up in 2022), and for as much as his hitting pops off the screen, it’s actually his mental game which is most exciting of all.
He is one of those players who always seems to know what is happening before anyone else does - it looks like he’s guessing, but when he’s consistently right, over and over, it becomes apparent that he has a truly unusual aptitude for reading the game. That’s not just my own opinion, either - in Pete Carroll’s own words: “His make-up … how he approaches the game, the way he sees his opportunities and stuff. I’ve always held Troy in high regard in that. [Devon Witherspoon] is the closest I’ve come to that, someone talking and acting and performing like that … We’ve not seen a guy like this.”](
1.20) Jaxon Smith-Njigba - WR, Ohio State
Tyler Lockett is 30, and going into his age-31 season. People talk about his upcoming cap hit, but he’s still nearly un-cuttable until 2025 due to dead money. Is a trade possible? Maybe, but that somehow feels unlikely. Does the team know that Tyler plans to retire relatively soon? It’s plausible - he does already have a fairly successful side gig going as a realtor. But where I’m actually going with this is … Seattle really needed a 3rd wide receiver even if the whole gang stays together. Dee Eskridge was meant to be that guy a couple of years ago, and it just hasn’t happened. JSN is on another level as a prospect, and by taking over the slot, allows DK and Tyler more freedom to attack the deep third of the field. I think we’ll see all three of them lined up in every position over the course of the season, but the way that JSN is able to attack the short and middle areas with body positioning and quick separation will potentially change the way our whole passing game works - even if he only logs, say, 50 or 60 catches. I’d be really happy with that from him in year 1.
It’s worth mentioning as well - our current OC (who some speculate could be our HC-in-waiting) is Shane Waldron, who was with the Rams as they unlocked the 90+ catch potential of Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. JSN has the exact attributes to thrive in that kind of scheme - lots of digs, crosses, and pop routes off of play action - probably even more so than DK or Tyler. So even if he doesn’t go huge in year 1, this feels like a slam dunk pick for the future of this offense.
2.37) Derick Hall - EDGE, Auburn
Similar to Devon Witherspoon, Derick Hall is violent. The Seahawks defense has distinctly lacked a certain intimidation factor over the last few years, and Hall is another attempt to rectify that. There were some split opinions on Hall, but there are some indications that the Seahawks had Hall rated as a first-round talent on their big board. He’s not a refined rusher, but he’s very well-built and physical, and meets blockers with speed, aggression, and power.
Oftentimes we see elite athletes at the EDGE position we assume that they’ll be finesse players, but Hall is the opposite: while he’s squatty (a shade under 6’3” and 255) and very long (34” arms), he also boasts a 93rd percentile broad and 94th percentile 40 yard dash: he’s not trying to beat you around the corner, he’s a freight train with a dragster’s throttle and he’s going to hit you at full speed. He joins an already-young and talented group of EDGE defenders that includes stud free agent signing Uchenna Nwosu and two other recent 2nd-rounders in Darrell Taylor and Boye Mafe. Especially with EDGE rushers, it’s great to have a rotation. You love having a deep group that keeps each other fresh and allows you the flexibility to adapt to situations or matchups. Taylor and Mafe bring more of the typical bend and burst you expect from athletic EDGE players, and Hall’s power and violence is a welcome addition to the mix.
2.52) Zach Charbonnet - RB, UCLA
While fantasy football nerds everywhere donned black to mourn the wasted futures of both Ken Walker III and Zach Charbonnet, I chuckled to myself. There’s quite a lot of detail on this situation in that link, but the basic upshot is this: Seattle’s front office had Zach Charbonnet very high on their draft board. He was in consideration as early as pick 37, where they took Derick Hall. Our running game didn’t work very well last year when KWIII was injured, and they want to make sure that doesn’t happen again. But furthermore, even while KWIII was one of the most explosive running backs in the league as a rookie, he was also inconsistent. He ripped off a bunch of big runs, but there were a lot of others where he left meat on the bone.
I’m not suggesting that the rookie version of KWIII is his ceiling, but there was more room for improvement than I think is appreciated by a lot of people who don’t watch the Seahawks. Charbonnet doesn’t have the same breakaway ability, but on a run-to-run basis, he appears to be more consistent at getting 3 or 4 yards in the kinds of spots where KWIII was getting 1 or 2. Pete Carroll really wants a consistent run game, and if KWIII isn’t delivering that, he might just turn out to be the most exciting 1B in the league. Or maybe he’ll really take ownership of the 1A role and this situation looks a bit like the best of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt for the next 3 years. Bottom line: Charbonnet provides high-end depth to a position that has really struggled with injuries in recent years while also offering more potential as a pass blocker, more skill as a receiver, and more consistency and physicality as a ballcarrier. It’ll be really interesting to see how that shakes out in the touch ratios, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Charbonnet comes in and takes the priority spot on the depth chart. Pete Carroll indicates that he and Ken Walker will just have to battle it out.
4.108) Anthony Bradford - OG, LSU
While Seattle managed to nab not one but two starting offensive tackles in last year’s draft, the interior offensive line continued to be a mixed bag. Damien Lewis is entering the 4th year of his rookie contract and has been a little up-and-down since moving from RG to LG after a very good rookie season, and RG Gabe Jackson is currently a free agent. One of Seattle’s only notable FA signings was Detroit’s OC/G Evan Brown, whose 1-year deal gave us a veteran baseline at both C and G going into the draft. Anthony Bradford will be expected to push Brown for the RG spot in 2023 and hopefully be ready to take over by 2024.
Bradford is another tone-setter. His agility is average, but his combination of bulk and power is high-end - he’s 330 pounds and put up 34 bench reps while still testing in the top 25% of all interior linemen for his jumps and sprints. This is a pick is another demonstration of Seattle’s priorities: they want to play a physical brand of football on both sides of the ball. There’s a simplicity to this pick, summarized neatly by an anonymous offensive line coach at the bottom of of his prospect profile: “I’ll take size and power all day over finesse guards who can move but don’t have any pop to them.”
It’s worth noting that Seattle picked here because Denver gave up their 2024 3rd round pick to swap 4.108 for pick 3.83. It seems relatively likely that 2024 pick is higher than 3.83, which in turn sort of makes this feel like a free 4th rounder. (Why does Denver want us to have so much of their draft capital?)
4.123) Cameron Young - DT, Mississippi State
One of Seattle’s biggest needs was interior defensive line, and this feels like one of the most obvious ‘need’ picks of the draft - though it’s telling that it doesn’t feel like Seattle specifically targeted a need until the middle rounds.
Cam Young isn’t a dynamic pass rusher, but he’s well-built for the interior and has very, very long arms (34.5”). He’s got a good anchor and combined with that length, gives us a viable player at nose tackle. He doesn’t have to be flashy to be an early contributor on the interior rotation, and by day 3 any consistent contribution feels like great value for any pick.
5.151) Mike Morris - DL, Michigan
Mike Morris is an interesting pick because he’s likely to play a different position for us than he played at Michigan, where he often played from a 2-point stance. He’s most likely going to be a 5-tech for us (a base end in 3-4/hybrid looks), because while he’s athletic - in the sense that he moves very well, shows decent balance, and has good hand-eye coordination - he’s not really explosive or twitchy enough to drop back into coverage or challenge offensive tackles with speed.
But he’s also huge. He’s over 6’5”, weighed 275 at the combine and will play around 290 for Seattle. Pete Carroll has indicated that he’ll play a similar role to Dre’Mont Jones and Jarran Reed, who are both 300-lb defensive ends in our scheme. Similarly to Young, a lack of depth in the rotation opens the possibility for early snaps.
5.154) Olusegun Oluwatimi - OC, Michigan
Now, he’s a pick that got a number of people pretty excited. I was personally a little bit surprised that they took Mike Morris ahead of “Olu Olu,” as center was both a bigger need than 5-tech, and Olu Olu was also widely regarded as a better prospect. But not only was Olu Olu regarded as a better prospect - many people thought that he could go as early as the 3rd or 4th round. PFF loves him, the Senior Bowl’s Jim Nagy loves him, and so did CFB’s awards - in 2022 he won both the Rimington Award as the nations best center as well as the Outland Trophy as the nation’s best interior lineman.
How did he slip to the 5th round? When you look at his scouting reports, you see terms like ‘functional athleticism’ and ‘adequate agility.’ We don’t have agility numbers for him, so it may well be that he simply knows his strengths - and that said, he does have some physical advantages. He’s about 310, which is on the larger side for a center, pretty good length, and also shows some legitimate explosiveness and power with his jumps and bench. But beyond that, he was a 4-year starter at Michigan who has loads of experience against top competition and a wide variety of defensive schemes. He’s smart. He can make all the calls, he knows where to be, and a center play goes a long way when a guy is in the right place at the right time while bringing plenty of power with him. Like Anthony Bradford, Olu will be challenging Evan Brown for an immediate role on the interior line. There’s guarantee, but there is a real chance this is our starting center for the next several years - and for a 5th round pick, just the legitimacy of that possibility represents a tremendous value.
6.198) Jerrick Reed II - S/DB, New Mexico
Not many people know who Jerrick Reed is, and that’s ok - he’s used to it. An undersized defensive back at 5’9” 196, Reed has done nothing but produce from high school, to community college, and eventually to a D-I scholarship to New Mexico State where he started for all 4 years. This continues a trend: the Seahawks again have taken a smart, tough player with lots of starting experience, who is a very hard worker, and who loves and understands the game. That will be important for a late-round pick trying to make the team, but the path to playing time might be shorter than you’d think.
When Seattle signed Julian Love in free agency, there were questions about what that meant for Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. Apparently, per Pete Carroll, it doesn’t mean anything - they intend to play a lot of 3-safety looks. It’s worth noting that this is something they were already doing at the beginning of last year, before Jamal Adams got injured (again). If this defense is playing with 3 safeties much of the time - which is made even more likely by the lack of depth and talent at off-ball linebacker - then a 4th or 5th safety is much closer than usual to being an immediate backup. Reed’s not going to get any looks on the outside, but he can legitimately back up the free safety, strong safety, and nickel positions. He also has a ton of experience on special teams, and the ability to fill 4 or more different roles on a squad is exactly the kind of thing that makes depth guys stick to final rosters.
7.237) Kenny McIntosh - RB, Georgia
Similar to Olu Olu, Kenny McIntosh is a player who many people thought could go much earlier than he did. The problem with Kenny McIntosh - in my opinion - is simply that he had a very worrying series of predraft measurements. He seemingly dropped weight to run at the combine, but only managed a 4.63 at 204 lbs. He was back up to 216 for Georgia’s pro day, but again only managed a 4.66 along with some other mediocre-to-poor numbers. Teams seemed more interested in other more-explosive backs, or runners with better resumes as pure ballcarriers.
But at this point in the draft, that lack of interest became Seattle’s gain. Because in Seattle, Kenny McIntosh is not only going to be allowed to play to his strengths - he’s going to be expected to, because there’s a specific role on this team for a player exactly like him. One of the Seahawks most underrated losses this offseason was running back Travis Homer. It wouldn’t surprise me if most people don’t know who he is, but he had a definite role as a third-down back in addition to special teams duties. Like Jerrick Reed, it will definitely help McIntosh’s case for a roster spot if he can prove his worth on special teams. But he may not have to. Travis Homer was not a particularly good ballcarrier. He was small - also around 205 - wasn’t creative, wasn’t powerful, wasn’t especially fast or twitchy. But he was a tremendous pass blocker and a serviceable receiver, and those two things earned him about a quarter of all offensive snaps (484) in games he played in over the last 3 seasons. If that seems high, that’s because it is - especially for a running back who only touched the ball 106 times in that span. Compare that to DeeJay Dallas, who had about half-again as many touches on a similar number of snaps.
While Ken Walker III and Zach Charbonnet are going to be the running backs who the offense specifically tries to feed the ball, Kenny McIntosh could easily be the running back that the team wants on the field in the most obvious passing situations. Zach Charbonnet was also one of the most productive receivers among college running backs, but Kenny McIntosh is probably smoother and more refined as both a route runner and a receiver. McIntosh registered zero drops on 90 targets, posted a PFF grade over 90 as a receiver, and is also already a very reliable pass blocker. That means there’s already a role for him on the Seahawks, and KWIII and Charbs aren’t necessarily in his way - if anything, those guys might be battling for the 3rd-down snaps that Seattle’s coaches assume will go to McIntosh. Again, as with several of these other day three picks - this 7th rounder enters training camp with a great shot to take hold of an important role early on. He may only log 20 carries and 20 catches in the stat book over the course of the season, but it might also be on 150-200 snaps, and in important game situations. And if he’s able to keep KWIII and Charbs that much fresher, and especially if he’s just the best for those situations, once again that’s tremendous value for the back end of the draft.
I’m really excited for this draft class.
Go Hawks.

Description of Original Problem: When I try to install my GPU drivers I get "error: 176 Not enough space". I have 30 Gb+ on all of my drives expect the one that isnt any of my physical drives that I think appears on anyones computer automatically that is 500Mb in size. No matter what settings I try on the Adrenalin installer it says the same thing.
Troubleshooting: I've tried pretty much everything. Have tried to install it on every drive, have deleted the driver files manually and deepcleaned with a tool that is meant for gpu drivers(cant remember the name since it was several months ago), have tried to download older versions and still it always pops the same error. I've tried fixing this multiple times over the past year but every time the same thing happens and google does not have any new answers. Only thing I can think is causing this is that the software tries to install to the 500Mb fake "drive" even when I choose other drives(mainly the OS drive).

2023.06.03 23:54 Stop-Hanging-Djs I don't like how Bleach fights are structured and paced

So with shonen I'd say a majority of fights are decided by hax or bigger number. But even in those series that abuse those story beats, there are usually a decent number of moments in which power or hax aren't the deciding factors. To my memory, this isn't the case in Bleach. Most fights in Bleach are determined by bigger hax/number. Let me try to demonstrate other factors utilized well with other series, that Bleach lacks.
The momentum of the fight and how it shifts
So, in most interesting fights you want to shift whoever has the advantage around or at the very least shift how much of an advantage the overdog has around to keep it interesting. Bleach does do this but usually only in one flavor. It's “I'm winning because now my Hax is stronger or number is bigger due to this power up”. Here are some alternative examples for context
In Hunter X Hunter there were fights in which the winner or person who held the most advantage won not because one power was stronger or had overwhelming hax off the bat, but because the winning combatant was patient and slowly built their advantage. Morel vs Cheetu for example and Knuckle vs Youpi. The momentum of the fight slowly, strategically and meticulously shifted.
Or multiple characters working together in which one uses their power to make a sacrifice or open up an advantage for their teammate to exploit and win the day. Black Clover does this a ton and One Piece is pretty good about this too. How many fights in Black Clover in which the Bulls or other make a play to give Asta an advantage? Or side characters running interferance or supporting the Straw Hats? Doflamingo vs Luffy and Kaido vs Luffy for example.
In contrast Bleach is almost always “I'm overwhelmingly winning, no I am overwhelmingly winning” 1 v 1s. The push and pull in the pacing of the fights are usually too binary in that one combatant has a overwhelming advantage until the other does. Fights aren't usually too close, the momentum shifts are almost always dramatic and they're almost always in the configuration of 1v1s
And on that note
Applying powers creatively
Alright Imma use the easiest straightest example of Bleach not doing this you've all heard before. Ichigo Kurosaki. All he does is slash hard and shoot beam. That's how he fights, and he almost never really does anything different. I don't like it cause it got dull real quick in my opinion. And a lot of characters apply their power sets in straightforward limited ways
Jojo's in which a not outwardly fatal power applied creatively in the right environment can prove deadly. Survivor, Both shrinking stands and most of Jolyne and Josuke's fights etc. Hunter x Hunter with Knuckle, Morau, Kurapika and many others.
There are a lot of examples of novel and interesting applications of powers so I won't go too much farther
An environment in a battle can be written to be integral. And this usually adds a dynamic and unique element to fights as the environment shifting can change the parameters of the fight or the environment can add or subtract a huge advantage to the combatant. Jojo's for example has a ton of fights in which the setting defines the fights. The “cat and mouse” hunt with Josuke vs Kira and the rat fight. Bruno vs Pesci and his brother on the train. In these fights the environment can be a physical hazard that can kill a combatant or grant one combatant a huge fight defining advantage over another.
Even DBZ on occasion tries to have the location matter. Don't believe me? Remember the times the Z Fighters go “Oh shit we can't fight here! He'll destroy Earth!” or “Let me run and hide while we come up with something”. Vegeta was making false moons to power himself up, Picollo and Master Roshi have destroyed the fucking moon to prevent the enemy from gaining an advantage. Villains would blow up the planet because “I can breathe in space and you can't”. Hell even with Frieza, Goku was using the water and the fact Frieza didn't really have good sensing skills to get some good hits in.
In Bleach since they're all float ghosts with DBZ movements, as far as I can remember the environment don't really have any characteristics and as such the setting doesn't matter for the fights in Bleach. For the most part in Bleach if the fights were in a DBZ empty field, an arena with ring outs or a confined house and it wouldn't make a difference. Most we got of acknowledging location in Bleach is the DBZ trope of “we can't fight here because collateral”
Final thoughts/ TLDR;
Do fights always need these factors to be good? No not necessarily. Are these metrics objective criteria for good shonen fights? Of course not. But the frequent absence of all off these factors do make Bleach's fights dull in my opinion. Mostly because imo they're mechanically and environmentally simple and can get real predictable with the pacing and “flow” of the fights.

2023.06.03 23:52 Badaa1865 Needs tips

Hello! For the past three days I’ve been practicing crocheting, for now I’ve just been aimlessly doing it just to get used to making chains and yarning over (I have no idea if I used those terms right), I’ve noticed when I have more than one row the chain or line of V’s are no longer straight and bend, even if I try to keep it straight. I’ve made few rectangles and squares but none of them will lay down on a surface flat. One of them bends like a Pringle rn, does anyone know how i could fix this? And any other tips would be greatly appreciated :)

2023.06.03 23:38 Blackjack12121 What attributes should I look for to block out random loud noises?

My job recently moved to a new location right next to batting cages. It has only been a few days and it's already driving me crazy. 6+ hours of This Sound .
I have been using earbuds with some noise cancelling but I feel it does more for constant rumbling noises. Is their a term for noise cancelling that focuses on higher pitch noises? And if you have any recommendations in the >200$ range that would be great. Wireless earbuds preferred but I could do over the ear.

2023.06.03 23:35 BeginningPiccolo6834 The Lab Coat

So I have a theory about the lab coat.
You first see Matty in a lab coat in a YouTube Session for "The Birthday Party" (the video premiered May 19, 2020). Obviously, the song is from NOACF.
While the song is about Matty relapsing after rehab, the official music video for "The Birthday Party" is about a digital detox and premiered on Feb. 19, 2020.
This article about the music video's release shared more:
"For the 3D animated video, the band teamed up with director Ben Ditto and co-directoanimator Jon Emmony to create the world of Mindshower, a place where people can take a break from technology. There, the band encounters various internet characters from Reddit, 4chan and more. The band’s movements were scanned and used to create their digital avatars. ....
... Mindshower and elements of the video will be part of the band’s live concert experience on their upcoming tour in support of Notes on a Conditional Form."
As most know, the stage team on the ATVB tour are all wearing the lab coats, which I was always curious about because it doesn't really fit in with the the house aesthetic. What does a lab or medical setting have to do with a home?
At the recent BBC 1 Big Weekend show, everyone was talking about MH wearing the lab coat at the beginning of the concert. At the end of the performance, he looks at "atpoaim" screen and says "This has all gone too far." Some were speculating it was about the issues going on with the commentary surrounding MH, but I thought at the time it seemed more a commentary on the show.
Anyhow, I DO think it is possible, as some have speculated/hoped, that this next leg of the tour is heavy on NOACF and brings in elements of the originally conceived tour. And the story of the ATVB tour to date, has been within a larger framework that ties back to the concepts of the NOACF show. It will lean heavier on the idea of simulation, technology, the online world, but also that the online world is a construct. I don't know if the lab crew are more like engineers, in that this world we live in is being created by them (maybe a comment on big tech?), or if it's more that WE are the ones constructing these strange realities with the symbolism of MH wearing the coat. I dunno. Let's see how wrong I am haha.

2023.06.03 23:29 benevida How to Troubleshoot KVM Passthrough Preventing VM Boot?

I passed through a USB 3.2 Controller. No problems. But, when I have my KVM plugged into one of the ports on the USB Controller, the VM boot does not get past the VMWare splashscreen.
Processor: AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5955WX Motherboard: Gigabyte MC62-G40 USB Controller: Allegro Pro USB-C 8-Port PCIe Card (USB3C-8PM-E) KVM: Rextron 4 Ports 8K DisplayPort 1.4 KVM Switch With USB 3.2 Gen 1 (PAAG-E3114B) Host OS: VMWare vSphere ESXi 8.0 Update 1 Guest OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2 x64 (also tried with Win11 and Linux)
The USB PCIe card I added has 4 separate controllers. I have 1 assigned to passthrough to each of 4 VMs. Other than the VM with my KVM plugged into the external USB port of the USB Controller that's passedthrough, there have been no problems. I've tried having the KVM plugged into different VMs with different OS's, (i.e. Windows 11 Enterprise, Linux) and the VM boot will not progress past the VMWare splash screen in this KVM is plugged into it, (a screenshot of the splash screen can be found here for reference).
If I unplug the KVM, then boot the VM, and then re-attach the KVM, it works fine. I get full functionality out of the KVM (keyboard, mouse, and any other USB peripherals plugged into the KVM's built in USB hubs). I've tried unplugging all of the USB peripherals from the KVM while booting, but the problem remains. This leads me to believe that the problem is specific to the hubs built internally into the KVM.
I also passthrough other PCIe devices, (video card, network card) and I passthrough USB devices explicitly (Corsair PSU, Corsair Fan Controller, USB SSD stick). I have tried not passing them through as a troubleshooting step, but it didn't help.
Windows Device Manager doesn't show any yellow bings or other obvious signs of distress, (a screenshot can be found here for reference). The chipset used on the USB controller is ASMedia, so I did some research and found out that there might be a better driver. I performed the driver update successfully, but the problem remains.
I looked through the vmware.log file of an unsuccessful boot for errors and I couldn't see anything that looks germane to this issue. If anyone wants to see the log file, you can find it here. With any luck, someone else can find something helpful. I tried comparing the file to one from a successful boot and didn't see any differences that stood out.
At this point I do not know where else to look, or what else to try.
Any suggestions?

2023.06.03 23:25 chumpsky1213 Gilles Dauvé: Peace is War

In real life, “Ukrainian politics carries on in the background, shutting down opposition parties, monopolizing television broadcasts” with “attacks on those dissenting from the patriotic consensus” (V. Ishchenko). National unity is unfavourable to profound social transformation. By definition, “the Ukrainian people” gathers all Ukrainians, and the post-war period will not go against the interests of the ruling classes. At best some mild reforms might come out of it, but Ukraine will remain a country of low wages and poor protection of labour rights.
An altogether different matter would be the emergence of groups large enough to head the resistance towards a situation of “dual power”, ending up in confronting a Russian army tired out by the stalemate, to the point of desertions and mutinies, as well as confronting a Ukrainian State also contested from within. We are clearly not there. There are not three forces vying for power in Ukraine now: the Russian invader, the official Ukrainian army, plus a popular democratic armed movement that could grow (and take over?). There are two armies fighting an inter-State war in which grassroots efforts play an auxiliary role.
War mends social fractures as much as it aggravates divisions, and many a political change can come out of these troubled times providing they appear to offer a viable solution: the Bolsheviks in Russia in 1917, the fascists in Italy in 1922. The shock of war does not ipso facto entail rebellion, and anti-war attitudes are known to have taken the most diverse forms: revolutionary, conservative, reactionary… Exactly one hundred years before Russia attacked Ukraine, Lenin, who in terms of revolutionary defeatism spoke from experience, asserted that in “the national question”, “the overwhelming majority of the working people will inevitably decide it in favour of their bourgeoisie.” (At least temporarily, that is.) The past century has rather proved him right.
In the short term, the Ukrainian population, proletarians included, have few options: defending themselves ( = joining the government’s war effort in one way or other), or lying low, or even trying to evade conscription. Meanwhile, “revolutionary defeatism” only has reality in the aggressor’s country. After the war broke out, Russian anarchists set fire to army recruitment centres, Belorussian railway workers sabotaged tracks used to convey Russian troops and supplies to Ukraine, while various dissidents voiced their opposition to the war on social media. How widespread these (usually clandestine) networks are and what impact they could have is unknown but, more important, there are reports of Russian servicemen refusing to go and fight, even more so since the partial mobilisation of reservists.
If these movements happened to continue, if protest grew within Russia and the invading troops, if the war was grinding on and becoming unpopular because of the army being bogged down, and if too many “zinc coffins” started coming home, there could be defections, desertions, mutinies or even fraternisation with Ukrainian soldiers. At the time of writing (April 2023), this is not the case (yet?).
In 1940, Otto Rühle wrote: “The question confronting us today is whether Liebknecht’s slogan ‘The enemy is at home!’ is as valid now for the working class as it was in 1914.” To which he answered: “No matter to which side the proletariat offers itself, it will always be among the defeated. Therefore it must not side with the democracies, nor with the totalitarians.”

2023.06.03 23:25 Rakuun535 Alinco DR-735T favorites and skip function

So I'm having a weird issue with my Alinco DR-735T after using RT-Systems software to program it. I am trying to add memory channels to skip and favorites for scanning, but it isn't working anymore. The manual says while in memory mode to press the FUNC key and then press the V/M key while [FUNC] is displayed and the SKIP icon should start flashing. Well, I do this and all the radio does is beep when the V/M key is pressed and nothing happens.
I do believe this used to work for me, since I had added a channel to SKIP before, but after using the RT-Systems software to program more channels into my radio, I can't seem to do it anymore. Also, after using RT-Systems to program it, the one channel I did have in SKIP was still getting scanned.
Has anyone else encountered this and know how to fix it?

2023.06.03 23:24 VegaNovus AM5 Build Advice

Hello, this is the list I've put together:
Does anybody have any suggestions regarding this?
This is a pure gaming rig, with some very light streaming.
I'll be running 3440x1440 @ 100hz.
A few questions in my mind are lingering:
  1. Is there any reason not to get the 7800X3D for AM5? Would a 7950X be better?
  2. Is the cooling OK for this? I can stretch to an AIO if needed but it looks like the NH-D15S / darkrock pro are fine.
  3. GFX card: I don't care too much about RT, I mostly want to run games on my UWQHD monitor @ 100FPS wherever possible. A lot of the games I play use rasterization + DX11/12. The 7900XTX + GTX4080 are roughly the same price - any reason to choose 1 over the other?

2023.06.03 23:23 SuperDooper900 Aprilia Dorsoduro Starting Problem.

I have a 2018 Dorsoduro. Got my bike out today, went for about a 30 minute ride, came home. After a few minutes, I attempted to put my bike away, but it wouldn’t start. Wednesday, hitting the starter button, the bike briefly halfway turns over and then stop. If you try to hit the button again, it won’t work you have to wait for a few moments then it will do the same exact thing again. This problem is intermittent. After about 10 minutes to check the battery which read 13.0 v, so it’s not a dead battery. Does anyone know what could cause this? My bike is in pristine condition, with less than 8000 miles.

2023.06.03 23:21 Ok-Reward-6390 21 [M4F] Brazil/anywhere - lonely and nice (?) poet needs a half to write about

I haven’t even flirted with anyone for such a long time that I thought this could be fun. I’d have loved to say that the idea of doing this came to me during a dream, but I haven’t dreamt in a long time.
I am a 21 years old male from a big city in Brazil. I am going to university for a social sciences degree, and I have done pretty well so far. Besides all that, I write poetry on the side, and I work for a small online newspaper.
I am fascinated fairly often by many things and I have many hobbies so you won’t be bored. Last month I became fascinated by Spanish modern history after reading Preston’s biography of Francisco Franco and I was reading about the Miracle on the Han River yesterday, while my family gave a lunch party and I had to keep myself entertained while they discussed the tragedy of a heiress’ dog many illnesses, which were mysteriously shared with his owner, and some reforms in the Vatican Bank. But yes, in general, I really enjoy the humanities. I follow politics keenly – in fact, there is some chance I might have some thoughts on your country’s politics – and I’d say I am on the centre-left – pro-choice, in favour of a robust welfare state, LGBTQ+ rights, affirmative action. If you know about Brazilian politics, I voted for Marina and Haddad in 2018 (the voting age here is 16), and Lula last year.
As you can imagine, I also really enjoy reading and writing. Besides poetry, I have often thought about reading a novel, but this seems like too much work – and it seems that it would be arrogant of me to write a novel having lived this little. I really enjoy learning about other languages and cultures and I know a bit of French, German, Spanish, and Russian, besides English and Portuguese. I am into genealogy and I have helped a few friends with it. I also really enjoy TV shows and cinema, and I am easily brought to tears. I cried during the last Minions movie, even if I didn’t want to be there. I love music and my taste in it has been described as “fairly gay”. I’d have loved to be a musician, but I’d have loved to have been many things.
I guess I am pretty introverted, polite, and timid. I am affectionate and I can be really passionate as well. And I am fairly funny, or rather, I have made a few people laugh over the years. I am an atheist, if that matters.
I asked a close friend to describe myself, and that is what he said:
I think you’re very communicative. Shrewd, funny, a good companion. Kind of withdrawn but not necessarily shy. You avoid conflict and unnecessary arguments, but love to participate in good conversations. I think you’re very kind too, besides being polite.
As for what I want to do with my life, I am unsure though I am inclined to go into academia. I have been considering applying to a PhD program in the U.S. after finishing my undergrad here in Brazil. My family does want me to go into their business, which is related to politics. I have also considered going into diplomacy.
Who am I looking for? I’d look like someone curious about the world around her, and open-minded.
Some poems I really like:
Some songs I have been listening to:

2023.06.03 23:01 Swede-speed-mead Win10 or HW issue?

I have a laptop I used in college, Acer R5-571T with Intel I5-6200U @2.3Ghz (2.4Ghz), 12GB ram, Crucial 1TB SSD and Win 10 Pro 21H2.
After updates I ran a debloat from CTT
After a shutdown which seemed to take forever I timed a startup, login, open Chrome and get on Facebook as a benchmark. 11.5 minutes. I’ve disabled as many startup applications from System settings as well as Acer’s “optimize” from Acer Care Center (which also runs extremely slow at times). This laptop I got in 2015 and while it’s practically ancient, I also have a MacBook Pro mid 2012 9,2 with a dual core i5 at 2.5Ghz Ivy Bridge, 8Gb RAM, 500Gb SSD from OWC (Mercury Electra 6G SSD). Running OS Ventura 13.3 (using OpenCore Patcher)
Running same benchmark test the MacBook clocks in at 2 min, 31 seconds. Even updated Steam while loading Chrome which I didn’t cancel.
The MacBook is 3+ years older than the Acer and while the MacBook has a 0.2Ghz lead in speed, the “Skylake” in the Acer can boost to 2.8Ghz (which it does often).
So what gives? I like using the Acer as the screen is 1080p vs 720p of the MacBook and the speakers are better. But the MacBook is much faster for even internet browsing/streaming.
Malware bytes detects nothing, Windows defender doesn’t either, even in offline scan mode. I don’t use a paid anti-virus software, but I don’t see anything unusual on process running and nothing weird in registry (so far).
Any tips to make the Acer run as fast as the MacBook or is it just apples and oranges?
