I (f20) want to end my friendship with my best friend of two years (f21) over political beliefs change
2023.06.07 11:52 imagoodcarrot I (f20) want to end my friendship with my best friend of two years (f21) over political beliefs change
I’ve had this friend for two years. I have to say it’s all online but we did plan to meet soon. She lives in another continent so it’s hard for us to just meet. Anyway she had plans to move closer to me because of a job in the next year.
She is the most healthiest friendship I’ve ever had. It was so deep and beautiful and she set my standards very high for friends, showing me that this kind of friendship, even online, is possible.
The first two years were great but a few months ago I started to feel disconnected from her. I thought it was me. I’ve had this happen before with old friends (I’m 20) but I assumed it was cuz back then I didn’t have standards and let people step over me.
The first few months I’d excuse the weird vibe because she was still nice and supportive and she’s a good person, I guess. I was mourning our old friendship and didn’t want to end it over nothing. Yet something felt very different. I realized what when we discussed politics again. We hadn’t in two years.
She wasn’t never too liberal considering her country and society but she was pretty liberal compared to now. She became a conservative and seems to slowly move towards what people call “realistic but not empathetic” view. Such as listening to the guy who made the documentary “what is a woman?” and being anti abortion or trans people having a right to compete in their new gender oriented sports.
(There is a lot of debate about this and I’m not fully sure about my answer yet, I do believe they deserve rights and they deserve proper investigation whether they can compete or not)
Two years ago I was liberal but I was way more ignorant than now and had the mentality she has now when it came to certain things, especially trans. But lately these few months I’ve started being more empathetic and caring about people.
It’s like we both hit the two years mark and just grew apart and changed. She sounds almost dismissive now, she thinks it’s being realistic but compared to before she definitely feels less empathy and I feel that she is bitter and just adapting to her family’s views to survive her society.
It’s not just politics, I felt this in many other areas of life. We are growing apart but we still get along and have fun. It just makes me wonder when everything she believes in will turn against me, since she doesn’t believe in empathy anymore.
But for now she accepts me, while I cannot accept her. When my standards for friendship changed, I promised myself I will never step over my boundaries and beliefs just to not be alone.
I’m not against conservatives and I am open to understanding more but I just… cannot relate to her. I’m losing respect for her because of her new attitude and not because of her conservative beliefs. What do you think?

2023.06.07 11:48 SpecialistNo1435 1/- Naked mole rats and there extreme uniqueness genuinely you might wanna take a peak. I talk about their division of labor, cooperative care, communication, aspects of biology. I’m only talking about the most interesting ones to me.
(Remember in all this there almost 100% blind)
Now this will be multiple posts as i can’t put out the amount of info i want too in just one if your interested in one of the other ones go to my page posts and they will be the first ones at the top What i talk about in each part so you can see if your interested in any: Division Of Labor - Roles (Queen, soldiers, workers) - Caste system/Hierarchy - A second caste system in workers
Cooperative care: - Roles - Babysitting - Training and socialization - Nursing and grooming - Tending to weak.
Communication: - How they communicate - Each family having there own accents - Tactile signals - Chemical signals
Aspects of biology: - Having evolved an insanely strong cancer resistance - Living to 30 yrs when rodent sized usually die after 2-4 yrs. - Ability to survive with very low oxygen.
(Whichever number is in the title is the part that post is)
- Division of labor:
Naked mole rats have a eusocial colony like ants and bees with very efficient work schedules
Queen: Each naked mole rat colony has a single breeding female known as the queen. She is the largest individual in the colony and is responsible for reproduction. The queen is the only female that breeds and gives birth to pups, ensuring the continuation of the colony. The queen also makes the other females reproductive organs stop working with ways like: • Pheromonal inhibition: The queen's pheromones suppress reproductive development and ovulation in subordinate females.
• Social inhibition: The queen's dominant behavior discourages subordinate females from reproducing.
• Behavioral suppression: Subordinate females exhibit non-reproductive behavior, reducing sexual behavior and fertility.
Workers: The majority of naked mole rats in a colony are non-breeding individuals known as workers. These workers are sterile and do not reproduce. They are responsible for maintaining and operating the colony's infrastructure, including tunneling, nest building, foraging, and defense. Workers perform a wide range of tasks and exhibit a division of labor based on their age and size.
Caste system in the workers: The naked mole rat colony has a hierarchical caste system, where workers are divided into three distinct groups based on their size and age: small workers, medium workers, and large workers. • Small workers: The smallest and youngest individuals in the colony, typically around one year old. They are responsible for tasks such as digging new tunnels and chambers, gathering food, and cleaning the nest. They have smaller bodies that enable them to navigate through narrow tunnels efficiently.
• Medium workers: As small workers age and grow, they transition into the medium worker stage. Medium workers are responsible for expanding and maintaining the tunnel system, collecting and storing food, and participating in defense activities. They form the bulk of the worker population.
• Large workers: Large workers are the oldest and largest individuals in the colony. They are responsible for tasks that require more strength and endurance, such as defending the colony against intruders, enlarging the tunnel system, and moving heavy objects. Large workers also participate in foraging expeditions to gather food from outside the colony.
Soldiers: In addition to workers, some naked mole rats specialize in defense and are known as soldiers. Soldiers have larger heads, powerful jaws, and prominent incisor teeth, which they use to protect the colony from predators or intruding mole rats from other colonies. Their primary role is to defend the nest and the rest of the colony members.

2023.06.07 11:47 Gablepres Stanton Swann, Lord of Stonehelm
Discord Username: JB Allye#1218
Character Name and House: Stanton Swann
Appearance:
Stanton Swann is an older man, regal in bearing and strong-backed despite his mostly-grayed hairs and wizened eyes. He stands a bit shorter than the average knight, five foot and ten with a lean and powerful frame honed by constant exercise and battle. Scars line his body beneath plate, male and cloth, and a blade wound traces a white streak from the left side of his neck nearly to his ear.
Age: 45
Gift:
Leadership Skills: Strategist(e), Tactician, Cautious, Covert
Talents: Running, Horse breaking, Swimming
Starting Titles: Lord of Stonehelm
Starting Location: Storm's End, with Quentyn Baratheon.
Family Tree:
- Stanton Swann (MC) - 162 AC
- Carolei Estermont (spouse) - 169 AC
- Shirei Swann (AC) - 187 AC
Biography
Stanton Swann was born in the first moon of the year 162 AC to the Lord Ryger Swann and his wife, Lady Lynesse. He was the second born of their children, but the first to survive past his first year, and he bore his elder brother's name. An altogether normal child, at least by most standards, Stanton grew up healthy and mostly happy, though not without challenges. Ryger Swann was a harsh taskmaster and an equally stern father, and though Stanton would not be a man until his sixteenth year, he wasn't a 'boy' by his ninth.
Stanton took to his harsh instruction well, and though he was not the most skilled warrior in the Seven Kingdoms (not even the most skilled in his own keep), he was a very intelligent young man above all else, something that his father both appreciated and cultivated in the boy. In matters of state, he was competent, in matters of court, he excelled, but it was in tactics and warcraft that the boy showed his genius. His father, no slouch in command himself, was overshadowed by the son, and he hardly minded. Instead, he simply drilled the boy further.
By now, though, it was time for the future Lord Stanton to start doing the business of Lords, and part of that was squiring for a worthy knight. That worthy knight was Brus Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, and while not as harsh as Ryger Swann, Brus didn't take it easy on the boy. In his own words, he knew 'the lad can take it'. Take it he did. Stanton proved a worthy second to the Lord Baratheon, and along the way would cross paths with, and befriend, his son, who he affectionately knew as 'Billy'. Though Billy himself would be afield as a squire, they spent some time together as children that would only become more common as they both stepped into lordship.
After his ascent to knighthood, and with it, his ascent to manhood, Stanton would return home a different figure than he was when he left. He walked with a newfound confidence and ease about him, with the look in his eye of a young man who had supreme faith in his own abilities and poise. Already a strapping young man, this made him something of a heartthrob within court, and he had no shortage of flirtations with various women of the realm in his wilder years. One such conquest, and the one nearest to his heart, was Carolei Estermont, second daughter of the Lord of Greenstone. Arranged to marry a Rosby man, Stanton would charm her into breaking her arrangements and eloping with him to be wed in Stonehelm, and through means that no man or woman in the House of Stonehelm can decipher to this very day, he was somehow able to convince the Estermonts that he'd done them a
favor. Alas, the marriage was far less eventful than the courtship. Despite...
vigorous attempts, the two could not seem to conceive, and Stanton worried that the troubles that plagued his own parents with their children had been passed down to him, after a fashion.
Sadly, the life of a lord is not all flirtations and dalliances. Soon enough, Theory would become Practice, and Stanton marched to war for the first time at the age of 24... alongside his friend, the Lord William Baratheon. Stanton was no warrior, or at least, not a particularly outstanding one, but as a tactician he was immaculate. Mostly an outrider for the Marcher forces accompanying the host, Stanton would claim few notable scalps of his own, but his men would demolish the flanks of the opposing force in concert with the royal army, and he would quickly acquit himself well as a leader of men, earning praise from his father and his fellow Lords alike. What few were willing to talk about openly, including Stanton, was his other, more...
unsavory activities in the war. Stanton was the leader of the forces ordered to flush the would-be-usurper out of hiding in the Dornish villages and countryside, and he took to the task with grim determination, hunting his quarry with a viciousness and ruthlessness that disturbed his men, though they followed their orders without much protest. Many scars still line the Boneway, and Stanton can claim credit for a troubling number of them.
Though his father would linger on for five more years after the Red War, he would abdicate his seat in favor of Stanton due to his advanced age, leaving the 25 year old as the Lord of Stonehelm. By this time, he had finally had a child, born while he was away at war. A hearty baby girl, who his mother named Shirei. Stanton, uncharacteristically, was rather miffed at the situation. Seven years he'd been wed, and after seven years of trying the gods saw fit to spite him with a daughter. He would never share his feelings with his wife and daughter, however, instead doting on her in the same fashion he doted on his wife. Despite his actions in the war, the image presented to the realm was one of a devoted husband, a devout knight, a fair lord, and a loving father.
All that would subtly begin to change.
As he aged, Stanton would continue trying for a male heir, but once again, a long drought would plague his line. In that time period, William would be blessed with a family of his own, something that caused no end of private envy in Stanton, though he dared not speak it aloud, out of love for his dear friend. He would quickly take to the heir to the house of Storm's End, Quentyn, and even at his young age Stanton treated the boy with the same love and respect he held for his father.
That said, Stanton's subtle descent continued. Conflicts with the Marchers of the Reach over their new conquests drove a wedge between former allies, and Stanton was quite vocal of his personal distrust of their former comrades-in-arms, a position he still holds to this day with much more vitriol. Once a gregarious and outgoing man, Stanton would slowly become reclusive and stern, much like his father. A public feud with Richard Morrigan drew censure from William, and similarly verbose and public displays of vitriol towards their Reachman neighbors only served to make it clear that something was very wrong with Stanton Swann.
That wrongness would only elevate further with time. As he grew older, Stanton became paranoid that the Marcher Lords of the Reach were spying on their Stormlander neighbors, a belief that he came to hold so closely that he would pace the floors at night, seeking anyone who acted suspiciously. A long-time family servant, Lyle, would be found to be acting 'suspiciously' one night, and rather than act reasonably,... Stanton would beat the elderly man to death with a fire iron...in front of his daughter. As it turned out, Lyle had been skimming from the Swann coffers to afford better accommodation for his family, but Stanton had no proof of such a thing, or even a suspicion of it, before killing the man.
Stanton's new demeanor was not a temporary fit, and his episodes have continued, though much more commonly in private now, as William was able to convince his longtime friend to ease his temper, if only somewhat, and the one thing that hasn't changed about Stanton in his later years is his love for 'old Billy boy'. Even going into his fortieth year, the man had no sons, only two more daughters to his name, which meant that unless there were some miracle, Shirei would be the executor of his will and estate, if not the Lady of the house, as he himself had only one brother, and that brother is a Maester. Atop all this, his daughter was hardly a 'catch', a plain, mannish woman much like her father in her stoicism but not nearly as intellectually inclined. If anything, he wished more that Quentyn Baratheon, or Damon Morrigen, the nephew of his hated rival Richard, could be his son, but alas, such a thing was impossible.
Now an aging, bitter man, Stanton Swann turns his attention towards his legacy, that of a good man turned a bitter, wizened butcher by war and time. Skirmishes alongside the Carons against the Dornish, border disputes with the Reachman, and the appointment of his dear friend William as Hand of the King loom large over his head along with the state of his house, and Stanton has come to a realization. He cannot die without a male heir. He mustn't. And he would do anything, and he meant
anything, to make that happen.
Even things that no sane man should consider.
AC
Character Name and House: Shirei Swann
Age: 21
Appearance:
Shirei is a tall and lean girl that looks much like her father when he was a younger man. with a slight figure, sharp features, and deep brown eyes. She has a few scars of her own from afield and minor accidents with the family sword, but otherwise remains an unassuming, if not particularly beautiful woman.
Gift:
Champion Skills: Swords (e), Defender
Talent(s): Swimming, Singing, Woodworking
Starting Title(s): Heir to Stonehelm
Starting Location: King's Landing, with the Hand.
Note: Shirei is the current bearer of
Swan's Song. Biography
Shirei Swann is the first of the three daughters of Stanton and Carolei Swann, and from birth she was always a strong, boyish little thing, though not as much so as she is now. Stanton and his wife doted on her, as any good parents would, and Shirei grew up loved and healthy, surrounded by care and comfort. Among her household servants, an old man named Lyle, who had seen her father reared, was her favorite, and the old man would constantly watch over the little Lady as she played in the yard or caroused around court.
Shirei never knew her father as the world had known him before his turn for bitterness and hatred, only seeing how others reacted to the man. With her, he was mostly gentle, though sometimes his temper got the better of him, or he was harsher with her than was warranted. The man never struck her, never abused her, the most he did was perhaps raise his tone to her a bit too harshly, and he would always apologize upon doing so, assuring her that it was not her fault that he was troubled so. She believed him, of course. She loved her father dearly.
Alas, this perception of her father was colored dramatically by the death of her first and oldest friend. She was hardly ten when Lyle was caught 'acting unusually' by her father and beaten bloody before her, her mother, and her then infant sister Serra. The beating was an uncomfortably long one- Lyle, an old and frail man by now, was dead long before Stanton stopped swinging the iron. The experience traumatized young Shirei, and she's never quite gotten past it. She also hardly believed the tale that Lyle had stolen from the family coffers.
Aside from that, however, her childhood was fairly typical, though not entirely so. Family friendship with the Baratheons meant that Shirei spent some time around Quentyn, and she envied the heir of Storm's End's skill at arms, learning the sword and shield to better accompany him in the yard and join in on his carousing, whenever he stayed in Stonehelm for a short time. The same would be said for Damon Morrigen, nephew of her father's most heated and hated rival at court, who she bore very little ill will towards. In fact, as they were both about the age where one begins to think of such things, Shirei quite fancied him, though as the heirs of their respective houses, such a match was all but impossible.
Stanton did not discourage his daughter's pursuit of arms, especially when she showed quite the knack for it, and grew into a rather tall and lean woman, taller than him in fact. He didn't encourage it, either. If anything, to Shirei's dismay, the man seemed utterly indifferent, passing off onto her the family sword,
Swan's Song, and telling her not to do something stupid.
Now a woman grown, unwed at twenty, and positioned that she may one day lead a House Swann that has alienated all but its closest friends, Shirei is uncharacteristically nervous under her mask of stoic acceptance. Fearing for her father's declining mental state and her own place in the wider world, Shirei nonetheless does what she sees as her duty. Currently, she's petioned her father to remain in King's Landing, partly out of loyalty to her 'Uncle Billy', and partly out of a desire to be away from her father for some time.

2023.06.07 11:39 deathbygluten_ what would you say to an 18yr old girl trying to find her path in life?
*TW: SH, eating disorder, suicide*
TL;DR: my little sister is having a complicated and stressful transition to adulthood, i want to know what others might say to her during a time like this
apologies this is long but even if nobody reads it i had to get it all down somewhere, being the family therapist is tiring.
i’m 23 and big sister to the coolest, smartest, most gorgeous 18 yr old sister ever. our 16 ur old brother is the golden child, we both readily admit he’s way more chill and far cooler than us lol. unfortunately for my sister, she’s grown up with a pretty hard road of mental health issues, including multiple stays in behavioral hospitals, severe self harm, food restriction/anorexic tendencies, and several suicide attempts. she’s been in therapy from age 12, medicated since 13. recently she’s gotten in trouble for drinking at school and admitted to me that she’s smoking weed nearly every day. she also described to me stronger feelings of what sounds like DP/DR. if i could bear it all for her i would genuinely do it in a heartbeat.
here’s the thing. she’s got two weeks left of high school and has been working like hell to get her grades up to passing so she can graduate. she really wants this and i know she will achieve it, but school has always been hard for her so her emotions are all over the place with all this stress. it has also taken a toll on my family to help make everything happen in time for graduation—though i will say i’m proud of us all for how quickly and strongly we’ve each rallied around her despite our own plates already overflowing. we’ve been there for meetings with teachers, cops, and school admin, helped with catch-up tests, assignments, and homework, went to family therapy sessions with her reg therapist, as well as helping her thru a night of borderline alcohol poisoning… all in the past threee weeks.
tensions are kinda high with everyone because we’re all helping in so many ways to get her to the finish line (esp spicy btwn her and mom rn), and she seems to be in constant crisis about what happens next. our parents want her to live at home or on campus (20 min across town) and use the year of college they had prepaid for her when she was a child. it’s not so much about going to succeed or do well, just going to have tried it, to see if the experience is for her. she wants to move out on her own and start working immediately, but we’ve talked about how that’s not exactly feasible in our city—plus, she can’t drive yet so getting to a job is harder.
i just want her to focus on enjoying her summer, celebrate the win of graduating for a bit, then start the positive steps she says she wants to do that are good building blocks for any path, like get her license, find a part time job, practice managing her own money, etc. if she wants to keep working or try college it’s ultimately her decision and i know we will all have her back either way.
she’s just having so many struggles with purpose, identity, self image, self esteem, self confidence—more than i did, so i feel lost in guiding her… i just wish i could wave a magic wand and show her how awesome she is, how much better life gets once you’re out of the high school bubble and in a new setting. i tell her all this often but it doesn’t really stick—which i get, all that positive stuff sounded like a bunch of hooey to me at 18.
internet family people, what message do you think she should/would hear the most?

2023.06.07 11:39 jesslov3 I feel like I’m starting to despise my brother
I’ll try to make this short as I am unsure of what to do at this point although the answer is very clear but everything is easier said than done right? But anyways! My brother moved into my husband and I’s home a year and 2 months ago. Stupidly it was my idea. He moved from California to Arizona which is a huge change for anyone especially being single with no friends. In the beginning everything was alright I suppose. I’ll get to the point. It has been a literal nightmare. Barely helps around the house, doesn’t respect the house, is immature, annoying, drinks excessively, is always trauma dumping, can’t read the room. I’ve repeated numerous times to him of several incidents and always has the excuse that he’s just so tired from work but the most recent one health issues and his mental state. I’ll give one example of what the last straw was for me. Over the weekend my husband and I went over a friends house to get in their pool. We had drove there with the idea of leaving the car there since we where going to be drinking so we did. We Ubered back home and decide to continue drinking and listen to some music. It was already midnight maybe . About an hour later we start getting calls from family members. We ignore the calls. They decide to call again. My husband finally answers because now we’re a little worried that they’re calling so late. My brother is blacked out at the bar and security is about to call the cops if no one picks him up soon. Ubers won’t take him since he’s so wasted. My husband is drunk out of his mind already. I’m a little more sober than him but still drunk but conscious enough to tell him “no you are not driving to pick him up ! That’s his issue ! You are not risking a DUI for him ! It’s not worth it. At this point one of my sisters is screaming at the top of her lungs to my husband to pick him up. I’m like nope nope idc no this is his issue! I’m livid at this point!! I try to come up with solutions and decide to have my husband call one of the our very good neighbors who are also our very good friends. Thank god they where awake. They take us to pick my brother up. Soon as we get to the bar my brother is covered in throw up and clearly unaware of anything, extremely wasted! I’m angry !!! Next day acts like nothing happens. My husband decides to have a talk with him. Husband says he acted like he didn’t give a shit about what scene he caused and obviously had an excuse as he always does. Idk what to do at this point this is not the first incident and I know it won’t be the last. I know the obvious answer is to kick him out. But i can’t seem to follow through with it because stupidly both my husband and I feel sorry for him . Any advice would help 😭😭 Also fyi he is 34 I’m 31 Husband is 35 Idk if that matters

2023.06.07 11:36 DevourMistress Emma trigger help
I have two potential situations in mind for trigger event, however i'm not sure which one would be better and more accurate for the situation. I'll explain the events and then the two potential triggers.
Background info, Emma has trigger potential but didn't trigger in alley due to shadow stalker interference. May of 2010, Emma solo ambushes Taylor who's eating lunch on the school roof (Madison is sick and Sophia is skipping school to hunt some E88 thugs). Emma insults Taylor like regular, the two get into argument as Taylor stands up for herself (since it's just the two of them), Taylor snaps and calls Emma ABB bitch who got raped (heat of a moment insult, in this universe she knows Alan and Emma were ambushed and saved from ABB, though she doesn't know details).
Emma snaps at this insult, punches Taylor in the face. Taylor's too shocked to react as Emma angrily follows the punch with heavy push that throws Taylor off the roof. Reality hits Emma as she looks over the edge at Taylor's limp body below (Taylor barely survives, Emma doesn't know this yet) and thinks she just killed her former best friend.
Trigger 1: Emma triggers right there and then, her guilt, shame and great need to escape reaching crisis point. This results in her triggering and then fleeing [either takeoff or transit mover trigger], with Emma later either found and arrested or she turns herself in (either solo or after family convinces her to).
Trigger 2: Emma panics and flees the school, feeling guilt and shame etc. at her own actions as she mindlessly runs away from the scene. The police later locate her hysterical and bring her in, only to arrest her for attempted murder when they realize who she is. Emma triggers from stress during police questioning, gaining thinker powers [I'm thinking social thinker, but feel free to suggest]
So, which do you think is more likely trigger and what power manifestations would they create? i'm open to suggestions, since Emma will be a side character in the story.

2023.06.07 11:36 NeedleworkerNo1494 I have an insanely toxic sister that enables an even toxic niece. How to deal with this level of intoxicity without going insane.
-Please don't say move out. It's not an option. My mom needs me around, and I love to help her. I need some form of strategies to deal with this mess.
My niece is turning 23. She gives off major teenage boy vibes. Probably pre-pubescent boy vibes. And I'm not being mean (I probably am, as I'm typing this spiel about her, but her actions warrant it).
- Due to an incompetent SIL, I pretty much babysit my toddler (2.5yo) niece all day. It's one thing looking after her, but add in a grown woman (second niece 23 yo) who triggers her, takes her things, calls her dresses ugly, tries to eat what I make her, or takes her snacks (causing toddler meltdowns)... it can get absolutely unbearable. Anyway, so the 23yo is constantly on the toddler's case how she has to respect her. And harps on how I am teaching her to be disrespectful and with bad manners (complete moron can't see how she behaves, the toddler is mimicking it back to give her a taste of her own medicine).
I kid you not, I have to be very sensitive when I break up one of their fights up, because it can cause the 23yo to have a meltdown of her own and go on a swearing tirade against me, to then involve my mum.
- So night time is when I get to work. This teenage boy of a niece would come back from the gym, sit on my furniture after working out (i repeatedly tell her not to do it), takes my things, If I don't respond to her she will literally get in my face (not to start a fight, but to annoy me). She throws things at me. She is a very NEEDY attention seeking person, and can't handle if someone doesnt have time in their day for her.
- She does 0 housework. She expects her mom (use to be my mom, but we (other sister and I) got her to see through her ways) to pay for everything for her (even when she works and makes enough to cover her expenses). She then goes on to rail on how much mature she is than everyone else.
- Perhaps if it was left at that, I could tolerate her. But her and her mom work as a dynamic duo to leech off my mum and emotionally and financially abuse her. She got my mum to pay for her 12K car. She crashed it, made my mom do her insurance claim. She now looking at a BMW, and wants my mom to pay half of it (saying she will pay installments back). Insurance claim got accepted, so she got a car to drive in the mean time, so the BMW won't be coming. Anyway we have to hear how she's a victim, because one time she went to a parking lot of professionals and they were all driving teslas, audi, bmws, mercs etcs, when she was driving a volkswagon. What annoys me is how my mum can eat up her cunning talk and genuinely believe there is 1% chance she is deserving of anything of that nature.
- An office my mom bought years ago, my sister (her mum) has claimed it as an art gallery. It just sits there with her name over it. She doesn't do anything to make it work and to earn an income. Worst of all, this niece has her eyes all over it. She is eyeing it from her own mum (lol). Now you might consider me as wanting it for myself, but I genuinely don't need a cent, and have zero intention to ever take a dime that I don't work for, esp from my mom. I work from home. If I were to use it, I would pay my mum RENT.
- I have to be VERY strategic how I speak to them with my mom. They have convinced her, they are the outcasts of the family, and speaking up against them can easily be conflated as picking on them which can worsen the situation. It's an ugly cycle, driven by these two manipulation queens.
- She use to mock my physical appearance all the time. At one point in time, i use to have very thinning hair. She mocked me incessantly, whenever I did my hair in a cute style she was there to tear me down and how it looked (this is just an example of the level of manipulation she has to try and control how I feel). My hair grew in since then, so she can't mock me anymore.
So please feel free to let me know have I gone bonkers where behavior like this is acceptable, and I am just some uptight 30yo. Thanks

2023.06.07 11:32 BoysenberrySure8063 AITAH for not telling my best friend I think her boyfriend is cheating on her?
I (21f) and my best friend (19f) have been friends for nearly 8 years, and she is the best best friend I could ever ask for. We as totally different but just the same in so many ways, and all my best life experiences have been with her by my side. She has always been close with my entire family, my sister(17f) and I the most. Last year, early 2022, my sister began hanging out with a new friend of hers, we'll call him "Louie(18m)", and he instantly became one of us. Not going to lie, he was a total player in the beginning of the friendship, bouncing between most of our female friends, excluding me since Im in a relationship. His personality is amazing, he's literally me in male form and he fits right in with my family and friends. A few months into us all hanging out, him and my best friend start to hit it off pretty well, and before we know it he pretty much cuts ties with all the other females and it suddenly just him, my best friend, my sister and I. We've all been extremely tight this past year, my mom even considering him a son, and his parents feeling the same about us. Louie and my best friend have been together just over a year now. Between the four of us, our trust has never been anything but 100%. Louie is the only man I trust when Im drunk, my best friend has full faith that he cant stay wit us, or us with him, and nothing fishy would ever happen.
Well now my best friend works a hell of a lot more, and cant always come out and stay at our place like she used too, so more often then not, Louie will just come for the night and hang out. At first it was normal, nothing weird, my sisters boyfriend was usually here, and I dont share my bed, as well as we had a twin sized matress in our living room for Louie to sleep on. As for more recently, my sisters boyfriend stays home more for work, so hes not around when Louie is over, so hes been staying in my sisters room. Which like I said before, we all have full trust, so this wasnt necessarily a red flag, but it has been putting me off the past two times. When I've walked into my sisters room unannounced, they've almost always seemed to be in a spooning position, with my sisters ass against him, in her boxers. They normally move slightly away from each other, but not too much. I know it was also rumored beforehand that my sister and Louie had slept together at the beginning of their friendship, which my sisters best friend has also told me was "true" recently, but they had both denied it nonchalantly. My sister and him have always been close, but Ive noticed their energy towards each other has been different then when my best friend is around.
Normally I would tell my best friend in a heartbeat, if it was any other circumstance, but in this case, I'm so worried about bringing up drama and hatred between all the people I love the most, especially if it is all in my head. A situation like this would absolutely destroy what I consider to be my family. I cant not choose my sister, who I live with, but I also cant betray my best friend, who I consider my platonic soulmate.
So AITAH for not telling my best friend I think her boyfriend is cheating?

2023.06.07 11:25 ConsiderationOdd7708 my 17F mother 40F passed away
TRIGGER WARNING FOR SA
my mother and i lived alone although i have many other siblings all step or half siblings except my youngest sister (14F) who is 100% biologically related to me. i despise the rest of my family apart from my mother or sister because when i was younger i was rped by my brother and mlested by my father and only my mother believed me.
my mother was the kindest woman you could know, of course she had her issues but who didn't. she had drinking problems, i always begged her to stop but it never worked. my younger sister pleaded with her as well but it never helped.
my entire life i had never gone more than 2 days without talking to my mother, we were as close as you can be to one another. the week prior to her passing her drinking was exceptionally bad and she had a fall during the week and i wanted to maybe speak to my school and see if they could help me get her help, the entire staff dismissed me. throughout the week i was being super bitchy and blunt to my mum because i was sick of her drinking, she was so bad i started taking photos and recording all our conversations. i even tried calling helplines for her but nobody wanted to speak to me. saturday night i had a party to go to and i was having a friend come back to my house after the party to stay the night but before i left for the party my mums room which she hasn't left most of the week reeked and she wasn't eating any of the food i was giving her even after se complained her blood sugar was dropping and her blood pressure was rising, doctors described her as a ticking time bomb because her medical issues were so bad. but that night i still felt like going to a party. at the party i started feeling extremly sick although i hadn't drank or anything i was looking at myself and i was going green and i couldn't help but just lay backwards on a bed trying to keep my eyes open. i started saying something was wrong and i tried calling and texting my mum for an uber home because i wanted to leave but she wasn't replying, when i eventually got an uber home i didn't greet my mum like i usually would when i arrive home from an event i just went straight to bed with my friend. and in the morning i went to say good morning to my mother and just saw her laying on the floor with blood streaming from her nose i went to go her cpr But i couldn't work up the courage to touch her so i screamed for my friend to call the ambulance and i ran outside throwing up and calling my other best friends be i know i couldn't do this alone. i had to see my brother who raped me as he was the only family i had in the state which just made it all so much worse for me and as i'm only 17 my brother was made senior next of kin and he was making all the decisions on everything.
mums memorial was this past saturday and today is one month since i found her, i have never gone over two days without speaking to her and it's been a month. i don't know how i'm gonna do this it's so scary for me and i need her so badly i miss her with my whole heart i act like i'm okay but i can't do it the dark scared me running water scares me simple noises scare me the wound of abulace scares me i am so scared i've never imagined life without her i always told her we would live together when we're both old now i'm 17 and i've moved in with a friend but i have so much love around me but nothing is the same as it was before.
i don't know what to do without her all i see when i close my eyes is her dead body just laying there and i try leaving her alone that night so badly.

If you would like to be kept up to date with the upcoming lists, please subscribe to my newsletter by clicking this link. I don’t send out letters too often, pretty much once a month when this list goes out… and occasionally if I release a book or something. As always, this is not a comprehensive list, but only includes all the books I have heard about so far. If you have a fantasy novel you are self publishing in June or beyond, let me know by filling out THIS FORM, and I shall add it to the page. There are but 3 requirements: 1) It must be a self published fantasy novel. 2) It must have a Goodreads page. 3) It must have a cover. -- 1st June – The Pyres of Vengeance (Swords of Dominion #2) by N.C. Koussis Epic Fantasy, Grimdark After losing everything she knew, Selene struggles to keep hope alive. Terrifying threats from the capital test her in ways she never thought possible. Richter can’t destroy himself or the corruption that lives in his body. He won’t let anything stop him from his mission, though – to kill every other werewolf on the Continent. The Order of the Golden Sword cares not for the laws of men. They’ll do anything to wipe the lycanthrope haven of Palerme from existence. But no one has ever faced an army of werewolves before. Goodreads -- 1st June – Tristan’s Regret (The Return of King Arthur #3) by Jacob Sannox Urban Fantasy, Sword & Sorcery, Historical Fantasy In the 5th century, Tristan and Isolde are at the mercy of the scheming Morgana Le Fay, who seeks to undermine King Arthur’s alliance with Cornwall. The consequences of their actions echo down the centuries and, in 2021, Arthur, Tristan and the Knights of the Round Table desperately hunt the last remaining followers of Malagant, an immortal ally of the dead sorceress. Will Arthur finally live up to his own legend, and can anything put an end to Tristan’s regret? Goodreads -- 1st June – The Exile of Zanzibar (Railroad to Zanzibar #1) by Daniel Maidman Epic Fantasy, Historical Fantasy Claire built a device to fold space and time. It had a flaw… When the smoke clears, she finds herself halfway across the world, thousands of years in the past, and no device in sight. In bronze-age Florence, war has lasted for generations. All Claire wants to do is get home, but she’ll need help from the locals. She wins an ally in Marcus Diophantus, a pickpocket turned soldier turned general, who hopes to turn into something more than just her champion. Together, they broker peace between Florence and its enemy. If Marcus is going to help Claire, he’ll have to survive. Peace has upset the balance of power in the capital city. The king stands increasingly alone against: the Constantines, a commercial enterprise as much as a clan, who aim to profit from peace as they have from war – the warrior nobles, descended from the founders of Florence and quick to turn against a weak throne – and Reburrus, the high priest of Florence, convinced Claire answers to hostile foreign gods. As the city comes to a boil, Claire and Marcus – and Marcus’s formidable army – will have to decide where their allegiance lies. Claire becomes a reluctant participant in a savage campaign. While Marcus leads the battles, she tries to gain control of the unimaginably powerful Ctesiphôn – a ghost tower in the heart of Florence, shrouded in magic and myth. Goodreads -- 1st June – Captain (All that Glitters #2) by Shalaena Medford Grimdark, Gaslamp Mere weeks have passed since Tsingsei “Song” Gould’s world fell into ashes. Now she must accept her role as captain of the Stars’ Bounty. The crew returns to the skies to do what they do best: piracy. They travel the world, visiting new countries and finding an adventure wherever they go. In the frigid south, Song finds there are answers to her questions about kijæm…with a caveat. In the trading country, she gains confidence in her notoriety. In the exotic west, she makes a terrible mistake. However, one of Song’s dearest friends has become a wanted man, and they must find a way to free him of the price on his head. Will she commit the highest crime in the world, or will she lose him to the gallows? Goodreads -- 1st June – Buzzard’s Bowl (Tragedy of Cedain #2) by John Palladino Epic Fantasy, Grimdark Cedain continues to collapse. Ashmount’s destruction shatters the Magicai while the culprits responsible continue sabotaging the world. All the while, the next season of Buzzard’s Bowl begins and Edelbrock, in his constant fight for survival, desires a vengeance he can only find in the arena. Seradal and Villic find themselves in the middle of a war between Remeria and the Camel Clans, and may end up on opposing sides, while the threat of Calrym looms over all of them. At the behest of the woman he loves, Demri finds himself thrown into the Elkavich, a not-so-secret order of Magicai who are intent upon fixing the world. Ashen, a former urchin rescued by a noble with selfish aspirations, works to dismantle the nobility of Calrym. Death is assured to all who walk the world, the only unknown is when they will perish. Goodreads -- 1st June – On Winds of Ruin (The Deimachy #2) by Lincoln Law A friendship betrayed. An unfamiliar land. The winds of ruin blow. Roisin is still reeling from events at the end of A Crown of Blood. She feels lost, broken and alone in the world. Torn with what to do next, Roisin chooses to make the fateful trip across the Skybinder border into enemy territory in the hopes of gaining new allies for the fight against the Soulmongers. At her side is her fox companion, Vulpo; the last of the Bloodsingers, Mei; and a Skybinder of questionable allegiance named Giack. However, Roisin’s actions draw the attention of the Skybinder nobility, entrapping her into political machinations with deadly outcomes. Piritta, newly reborn Soulmonger, is tasked with the search for the final member of the Soulmonger Triumvirate to lead the army to victory. And Kaori, leader of the Soulmongers, is given her own task, granting her more power than she could have ever imagined. The choices these young women must make will tear them apart, fracture them all, leaving cracks for something darker to seep in. And in the end, only the one with the strongest resolve will endure. Goodreads -- 1st June – The Nameless Restaurant by Tao Wong Urban Fantasy, Cozy Fantasy There is a restaurant in Toronto. Its entrance is announced only by a simple, unadorned wooden door, varnished to a beautiful shine but without paint, hidden beside dumpsters and a fire escape. There is no sign, no indication of what lies behind the door. If you do manage to find the restaurant, the décor is dated and worn. Homey, if one were to be generous. The service is atrocious, the proprietor a grouch. The regulars are silent, brooding, and unfriendly to newcomers. There is no set menu, alternating with the whim and whimsy of the owner. The selection of wine and beer is sparse or non-existent at times, and the prices for everything outrageous. There is a restaurant in Toronto that is magically hidden, whose service is horrible, but whose food is divine. This is the story of the Nameless Restaurant. Goodreads -- 4th June – Gold, Lock and Key (Grimdark Fairytales #1) by E.J. Doble Grimdark “All it needs, is a bit of tenacity… and three little bears.” Goldie, an outlaw and contract hunter of the Baron’s State, accepts a new assignment from her employer to find an old cabin in the woods, home to three ‘shapeshifters’ who can morph into bears. Considered to be little more than a myth, Goldie assumes at first that the shapeshifters are an exaggeration – but with the sizeable bounty her employer is offering, she soon realises there may be more truth in it than she realised. And that isn’t the only thing on her mind: she discovers her main rival – a manipulative and incredibly cunning trapper named Southey – has also taken on the contract, and will be contending for the same bounty she so fervently desires. Having waited many long years to have her revenge and outsmart Southey for past mistakes, Goldie sees the new contract as a perfect opportunity to do so. All she has to do is play her cards just right. And kill three bears… Goodreads -- 4th June – Waybound (Cradle #12) by Will Wight Progression/Cultivation, Epic Fantasy Years ago, Lindon left his home as a powerless Unsouled. Now, he goes to war with the most powerful beings in the world over the future of Cradle itself. The Weeping Dragon has a grudge to settle, and Lindon intends to take out the Dreadgod with his friends by his side. But rival Monarchs know his plans, and they won’t let things end so easily. If Lindon does win, he will ascend to the heavens. But he may not find a safe haven there either. In the worlds above, Suriel and Ozriel face off against the Mad King to determine the new shape of the cosmos. The victor will decide the fate of countless universes. Whether he wins or dies, Lindon will soon leave this life behind. Goodreads -- 6th June – Champions of Light (The Light Series #1) by Althea Damgaard Epic Fantasy Rhoanda runs away when her father betrays her trust by arranging her marriage without telling her. She had freedom to be herself, unlike her sisters, but in the end, she should have expected this. Winter still hangs on in the mountains, unlike the beach she left, and it could be another month until the pass to the west opens. Her funds run out and the city guard catches her stealing. Instead of a cell, they take her to the Cathedral of Light, which rivals a fortress. There she learns the truth about the Light while trying to hide who she really is. Her parents, who embrace the Dark, have the power to take over the mountain kingdom and could use her as the excuse to do so. Sergeant Vern can’t shake his desire to drink nor his anger at the Lord of Light for the disease that crippled and killed his sister at a young age. The cathedral lets him work with the class of deviants under his alias, but time is running out. The worse spring thaw of the century arrives and despite the great Cathedral of Light, the Dark has found a deep root in the kingdom. Worse, prophecies of the spiritual war manifesting in the physical come true as a mural changes before their eyes and its images step into their lives. Vern needs to accept the truth that sets him free of the curse cast upon his family so he can step into his true role. A truth that his sister professed about the Light through all her pain unto her last breath when angels took her home. Will their faith in the Light be enough to overcome their trials and save a kingdom? Goodreads -- 6th June – imPerfect Curse (The imPerfect Cathar #2) by C.N. Rowan Urban Fantasy I’m exhausted. Done in. Needing a stiff drink and about a week’s sleep. But that’s not going to happen. Because Franc is dying, struck by a curse placed on him by the Sistren Of Bordeaux, one of the most powerful groups of Talented in France. And because of our deal, it’s on me to find out what the hell is going on, and how Franc has offended the Sistren. Apart from by simply existing, of course. Except a simple trip to Bordeaux turns into a living nightmare as the past comes back to not just haunt me but to kick me square in the nuts, and I’m sent to the one place no Talented ever wants to go. Where those with magic either vanish or get ruined, left as nothing but empty husks. This time, it might not be the world at risk. It might be my very soul. Goodreads -- 6th June – Lira by Armanis Ar-Feinial Grimdark, Horror Lira is an innocent little girl, struggling to survive in a cruel, heartless world. This is a horrifying reality that no child should have to face in a brutally poetic tale Goodreads -- 6th June – Girl Squad Volition (Volta Academy Chronicles #2) by Maya Lin Wang Progression/Cultivation, YA Magical girls, mystery, and martial arts! Goodreads -- 13th June – Fat Witch Summer – Lizzy Ives YA, Cozy Fantasy Dumplin’ meets The Craft in this body-positive fantasy novel for fans of summer road trips, female friendship, and magic. She is plus-size, but she doesn’t hate what she sees in the mirror—that’s the realm of her mother, Osmarra, a slim and elegant Glamour witch. When Thrash unexpectedly breaks a mirror with her mind, she discovers she has a knack for magic and will receive one of the three sanctioned Gifts: Glamour, Growth, or Sight. The only problem is that mothers choose the Gifts, and Osmarra is convinced that the Gift of Glamour will fix her daughter’s looks. When Thrash fails to persuade Osmarra to accept her as she is, a trio of cool witches who call themselves The Lunes offer her an out. Eager to discover his origins, Laila travels from her idyllic seaside realm into a land of unspeakable horrors, relying on her wits to survive her journey. She arrives aiming to establish peaceful contact with the aid of the besotted prince. However, it becomes clear that the heartless demon king does not desire peace at all, only war and conquest. When diplomacy fails, Laila turns to the king’s suave and manipulative bastard son in the hopes that she can inspire both him and his trueborn brother to go against their father. But soon it is her heart she must keep from being torn between their centuries-old dangerous rivalry. Goodreads -- 16th June – The Orb and the Airship (Turrim Archive #1) by Jenelle Leanne Schmidt Steampunk, Cozy Fantasy A rogue airship captain. An ambitious youth. A clash of powers beyond their imagination. With scholarships to a prestigious military school, Grayden and Wynn are thirsty for adventure. Then a straightforward pillaging mission on a ship of fresh academy students leads to betrayal from one of his own and an unlikely friendship forged by necessity. His prowess with a rifle draws the interest of the Locusts, a clandestine faction within Revance’s ranks. It turns out that not all aboard the fortress seek to stamp out the plague of molten flux, the mysterious liquid metal that fills the bodies of the dead and makes them walk again. Some seek to profit. The reanimated corpses —known as autominds— are used to control enormous contraptions of magnetically enchanted metal, forming the backbone of The Droughtland’s factories. The only thing stopping the smelters from expanding their illicit industry is Revance. The Locusts make Ryza an offer. Either help overthrow Revance to do the smelter’s bidding or reveal his father’s legacy as the very thing Ryza now fights against. The former is unthinkable. The latter means death. Ryza resolves to infiltrate them and expose the mutiny, plunging him back into the murky underworld of the smelters, testing his convictions, and even leading him to the ancient origins of molten flux itself. Except now Beatrice has gone missing, leaving Jen alone to face the shadowy organization and its 11 members by herself. Goodreads -- 21st June – Hierachy of the Unseen by B. Pigeon & Fell A. Marsh Epic Fantasy Demons and humans are locked in endless struggle. This is an intrinsic fact of nature. The demons believe their salvation lies in bleeding humanity of the life-force called light, while the humans are equally determined to defend it. Within the sprawling empire of Lu-nevet, the two sides have settled into an uneasy peace, employing less violent tactics. But this peace can only hold for so long. The state religion of Lukeira sends devout demon hunter Mitzli deep into the borderlands to bless the victims of demonic pranks. Once they arrive, however, they find unexpected signs of violence. They team up with irreligious hunter Veleiry to investigate—and the destruction the two uncover is an ominous sign of what’s to come. Meanwhile, shiftless demon Kor falls under the scrutiny of his vampiric commander, Mant—meaning he must actually do the work of tormenting humans, rather than taking credit from his now-ex-partner Yez. Slowly, he begins to realize that the demons’ strategy is shifting, and may be heading down a path he cannot follow. Mitzli and Kor will have to betray their respective factions if they want to put an end to the violence before it escalates. 2023.06.07 11:17 Joe_Ligma420 Fuck it, *worst* ending for every squadmate
Aka the post that will guarantee I go to hell
TL;DR List of Deaths at the end
--ME1--
Surprisingly, this run begins with a fairly normal playthrough, minus one small hook.
Garrus- The small hook in question, leave him on the Citadel.
Wrex- Get his family armor, this will make sense later
Tali- Get the geth data for her, again will make sense later
Liara- Recruit her after Virmire
Make sure to romance the human option for your Shep
Important choices: Don't do any side content other than the personal missions I listed, Kill the Rachni Queen, spare the Asari on Virmire, kill the Council, kill all the colonists on Zhu's hope, don't save Kirrahe
--ME2--
Now this is where the fun begins
Firstly, cheat on the VS, preferably with Jack or Tali if you're Mshep, any option is fine for Femshep
Upgrades- Armor only, no shields or cannon
Jacob's Loyalty- don't do
Miranda's Loyalty- do, but side with Jack in their argument
Zaeed's Loyalty- do after SM, choose Paragon route, leave Zaeed to die
Kasumi's loyalty- Do, either choice is fine
Mordin's loyalty- Do, choose to destroy Maelon's data
Garrus' loyalty- Do, don't let him kill Sidonis
Jack's loyalty- do, manipulate her into killing Aresh.
Grunt's loyalty- don't do, in fact, leave him in the tank until just before the SM
Tali's loyalty- do, incite the crowd or choose the persuade/intimidate option, resolve her argument with Legion either fairly or in her favor (if you resolve it in her favor, remember to apologize to Legion later to regain his loyalty)
Samara's loyalty- do, choose Samara
Thane's loyalty- do, but fail the tailing
Legion's Loyalty- Do, Rewrite the Heretics
I originally wanted to sell Legion, but him not being present lead to the death of either Mordin or Tali during the hold the line segment, and come on, their tragic deaths in 3 are much worse than selling Legion.
Unlike other "max casualties" runs, you do NOT have to wait 3 missions before the suicide mission, but me wanting some characters to survive means I don't need death at every opportunity, and the crew can just die of no escort instead.
--Suicide Mission--
Bring Kasumi and Tali with you to fight the Oculus, Thane and Garrus will die.
(Any ME2 death is the worst ending for Thane, Garrus will die because the cannons failed, imagine not getting hired by Shepard after asking, and then 2 years later when they do bring you on board you die thinking you failed at your job)
(You MUST bring Kasumi and Tali, or else they'll die here instead.)
Send Kasumi to the Vents, choose Miranda as the First Fireteam Leader
(Kasumi dies doing the job she was likely brought on to do in the first place, and Miranda may begin to question her skillset.)
At this point all the crew except Chakwas will have become alien Gatorade, but Chakwas still needs to get to the Normandy. Send no one.
(There really wasn't anyone who's worst ending lied in dying here, except Grunt, but he needs to be the Second Fireteam Leader or someone else may die in a "non-worst" way.)
But we still need a Biotic Specialist, choose Miranda. For your two squadmates, bring Jacob and either Mordin or Tali.
(Jacob, Miranda's closest friend on the team, will die because of her own failure.)
Send Grunt out as the Second Fireteam Leader. He was made to be the perfect soldier, I'm sure he'll make it out fine, right..?
(Wrong! This death was tied with Crew Escort for worst, but for reasons I specified already on Crew Escort, I chose this one.)
At this point, your survivors will be:
Miranda (1 point), Zaeed (3 points) Mordin (1 point), Jack (1 point), Tali (1 point), Samara (2 points), Legion (4 Points)
This is a crew with an astronomically low hold the line score, so here's what we do:
First of all, BRING MIRANDA. This is her only opportunity to die in ME2, and her death in ME3 is far from her worst (dying saving her sister).
That leaves one of the loyal 1 pointers as our second option, the average of 4, 3, 2, 1, and 1 is 2.2, meaning no one left behind will die.
So, for your squad, bring Miranda and anyone I listed as being worth 1 point.
After the suicide mission, do Zaeed's Loyalty, and get him killed through the Paragon route.
Important choices: Be a dick to the Virmire Survivor, Destroy the Collector Base, make sure you have low materials (easily done by running out of fuel repeatedly), don't do any side quests
--ME3--
This is where all the ME1/2 survivors get killed off.
Mordin- Sabotage the Genophage, shoot him
(He regretted making the Genophage, when he went to undo his regret, he was shot dead by his own commander.)
Wrex- Will automatically die after Priority: The Citadel 2, due to how Mordin died.
(While this death takes longer, I don't think I need to examine why it's worse)
Virmire Survivor- Neither Thane nor Kirrahe will be around to save the Salarian councilor, and you've been a dick to them these last 2 games, once you meet them in the Cerberus Coup, shoot them dead.
(Shot by their ex-lover who also cheated on them.)
Jack- Don't do Grissom Academy
(Jack grew up being abused by Cerberus, then they're saved by Shep, who then manipulates them in the very place they were abused before, and then Shepard consciously decides to ignore saving the place where Jack happens to be stationed, leaving them to be kidnapped by Cerberus and letting the abuse come to an end through brainwash.)
Tali- Side with the Geth
(While this death already sucks, what's even worse is you had Tali's back up until now, helping her with her Pilgrimage and siding with her during an argument on the Normandy, so seeing you suddenly switch up must be even worse on her. Even even worse if you don't take the Paragon interrupt to at least try and stop her suicide.)
Samara- Let her shoot herself, then kill her last daughter immediately afterwards
(Don't think I have to explain why this one is terrible)
Legion- Always dies in 3
(Again, wanted to sell him, but couldn't)
James & Liara- Low EMS final run
(This is as much their worst death as it is their only death.)
Now, that leaves us with the ending, while renegade control is the worst overall imo, this is about making life suck for squadmates, not making life suck for everyone, so we choose destroy to check Edi off the list.
Final Deaths: 18
VIrmire Casualty (Swarmed by Geth)
Virmire Survivor (Shot by Shepard)
Jacob (Failed Biotic Specialist)
Miranda (Crushed by Debris in Collector Base)
Zaeed (Betrayed During Loyalty)
Kasumi (Failed Vent Specialist)
Mordin (Genophage Sabotage)
Garrus (No Gun Upgrade)
Grunt (Failed Fireteam Leader)
Jack (Turned into Phantom)
Tali (Suicide)
Morinth (Samara's Loyalty)
Samara (Suicide)
Thane (No Shield Upgrade)
Legion (Forced by plot)
James (Crushed by Mako)
Liara (Crushed by Mako)
Edi (Shutdown by Crucible)

2023.06.07 11:16 NightCities13 88 Years Later-Game 10-Reapings and Train
Quell
President Zenia Heavensbee stood in front of the camera with a box in her hands. She opened the box and removed an envelope. Slitting the sealing on the envelope, she pulled out a slip of paper.
She read aloud the quell terms. “In order to reward the mayors for their great service, they will be selecting the two tributes who will possibly become their victors.”
Many in the Capitol were excited for this quell, with many surmising that potential grudges could take place in the form of mayors taking revenge on their enemies by reaping their children.
District 11
Pedro Romular (Game 9 victor) stood next to the bowl, but would not be performing the reapings this year. Mayor Lillian Cantrell walked up to the staircase, and descended the stairs. She walked into the crowd of females, many of whom looked scared.
She stepped into the fifteen year old sector, and grabbed the hand of a young lady with dark skin and braids. She selected the girl, and as both walked up to the stage, the girl burst into tears. The young girl introduced herself as Rosetta Ross, and Mayor Cantrell admitted to choosing the girl due to having a dispute with her mother, who she angrily stated had stolen the man that she loved.
Mayor Cantrell then walked up the stairs again, passing Rosetta’s brother, much to his relief, and chose seventeen year old Chayote Findley. As the ebony skinned boy walked to the stage, a braided ponytail of hair flowing behind him, Mayor Cantrell admitted that Chayote had rejected her daughter’s advances.
Booing was then heard from the crowd, as Rosetta and Chayote were taken into the town hall for family visits.
Rosetta was visited by her parents and younger brother, Sedge. She cried in her father’s arms, who angrily spoke of his hate for Mayor Cantrell, as his wife had died six years ago, and her grudge should have ended by now. Rosetta was then taken to the train.
Chayote was visited by his twin sister Alocasia, and younger brother Agave. He promised to return, and to prove Mayor Cantrell wrong.
Once on the train, Rosetta and Chayote met their mentor, the now 22 year old Terra Pruitt, who tearfully hugged both of them, apologizing for their reaping. Terra taught Rosetta and Chayote how to throw knives.
Once they arrived at the apartment, they were informed that the parade would not occur for quells. The next afternoon, Terra turned on the television to show District 2’s reaping.
District 2
Grudges were not seen at District 2’s reaping, where Mayor Demetrius Dalton instead selected training academy attendees.
He selected seventeen year old Fabiana Coleman for the female tribute, and a pretty young lady with golden hair and blue eyes walked to the stage, and shook Mayor Dalton’s hand, excitement shown on her face. Fabiana was known for being best with a spear.
In a surprise move, Mayor Dalton selected one of his own sons, eighteen year old Decimus Dalton, to be tribute. A young man with ebony skin and a dark afro of hair walked to the stage, hugging his father and thanking him. Decimus was known for his amazing sword skills.
Fabiana was visited by her parents and younger brother Claudius. She promised to bring the family glory, before being taken to the train.
Decimus was visited by his father, and two older brothers, Leviticus and Nicodemus. Decimus promised to return and bring District 2 glory.
Once on the train, Fabiana met her mentor, the now 27 year old Horus Greenstaff. He worked with her one on one, and helped her improve her spear skills,
Meanwhile 21 year old Atticus Cross worked with Decimus on his sword skills, and seemed impressed with Decimus’s overall brutality.
Once at the apartment, Atticus turned on the television to show District 10’s reaping, claiming that it’s tributes had made it into the top ten a lot during the past ten years.
District 10
As Pedro Romular had won the previous year, District 10 would be the last to be reaped, per custom in the new era.
Mayor Randall Stonewall was known for his hatred of Pedro, and this year’s reaping was based solely off of that.
First Mayor Stonewall selected Pedro’s fiancée and mother of his two children, eighteen year old Hermosa Lopez. A hateful look crossed Pedro’s face as a young lady with bobbed curly caramel hair and hazel eyes walked to the stage. Hermosa’s notably refused to share Mayor Stonewall’s hand.
Mayor Stonewall then selected Pedro’s brother in law, eighteen year old Juan Torres. A tall, muscular young man with olive skin and dark curls of hair walked to the stage, and also refused to shake Mayor Stonewall’s hand. Juan was married to Pedro’s sister Patricia, who was now seven months pregnant with a daughter, their first child.
As Hermosa and Juan were taken into the town hall, Pedro walked up to Mayor Stonewall, stabbing him in the stomach with a kitchen knife multiple times. The crowd began to cheer for Pedro, and the peacekeeper forces notably just stood there, as Pedro was good friends with all of them. Pedro was never punished for his actions, as President Zenia Heavensbee refused to allow him to be arrested, claimed that she felt sympathy for him.
Mayor Stonewall bled to death on the stage, and his body was taken for burial afterwards.
Pedro arrived in the town hall to visit his fiancée and brother in law, and told his sister that her husband Juan’s reaping had been avenged. His other sister Rosalina promised to watch Buster and Silvia, until Hermosa and Juan returned, as both were parents and could be revived.
Pedro escorted Hermosa and Juan to the train, and taught both how to use a machete, and informed them that they had to kill whoever it took in order to return.
Once at the apartment, Pedro showed them both his Games, and gave them advice for a variety of arenas.

2023.06.07 11:07 -JJ-153 Young, sweet cat. Moral/ethics advice needed.
I 23M have had my now 5 year old cat since he was a few weeks old. Very sadly, i've come to realize that keeping him is unfair to both of us. I live with my family, who does not like animals in the home, but were kind in letting me keep him here with me when I had to move back home 2 years ago.My cat and I share my bedroom and he is not allowed outside of the room unless crated and leaving the house; such as for a vet appt. My room is larger than many, but not enough for him to get any real exercise in. (I do not possess the finances to move out, or I would do so and keep him. Nor do I know anyone willing and able to take him in for any length of time). I am gone 10-18 hours every day and he is alone without sufficient stimulation aside from what he sees out the window, which is still fairly entertaining, but primarily a brick wall and the sky. My window faces a sideyard, so there isn't much activity. There are lizards and birds, but no cars or people he can see. I don't have the time to play as much as ideal and i'm getting to the point where I don't have the energy for him because his zoomies keep me up at night, like now as I am writing this. He is well fed and has a decent life compared to many house cats. My ethical concern with rehoming is that I know he is a very finnicky and sensitive cat, but also lacks much survival instinct. Which is why I took him home from the barn I worked at. He wouldn't get out from under my boss' car even while she was honking the horn. Because of this, as well as his personality, I don't see him being safe in any household that has children, he would get hurt easily. He also would be difficult to place in a home with dogs for similar reasoning, and I just don't see shelters being a valid option as he would just be terrified and likely get placed in a home with children. At that point I would just try to continue tolerating minimal sleep and seeing him upset he can't chase the bird like he did as a kitten. I may be exhausted, but at least he is safe from injury at that point. I have tried to just let him do his thing, but it is not sustainable long term. I cannot afford an exercise wheel, extra toys or anything I have not already provided. My financial position shows no chance of improving unless I get a second job or pursue higher education which would both essentially make him alone 24/7 because at that point I would not even be able to make it home for him. I would have to live in my car purely for logistical reasons. Another thing to note is that I dread living here. It is not good for my mental health to live here. My friends have expressed a drastic difference between living at home vs living on my own. Home being far worse. While I will do a lot for animals, I can not come home any more than I already do for my own sanity.
TL;DR Would you consider it negatively selfish for me to euthanize my young and healthy cat that would be difficult to rehome safely and that I just cannot realistically keep while being fair to and safe for both of us? Seeing I have limited income and options for placement.

2023.06.07 11:04 ted_dyy How do you tell a mother no
My mother is a huge animal lover, and for a period of her life she trained dogs, and she still does sometimes. She's incredibly good at it, and every pet we've ever had has been well taken care of, so props to her.
But recently I've noticed something, around March we got two cats, and we had a dog prior to getting the cats, they got along fine but it was a bit crowded.
Then my sister moved in, and she was so upset about some family stuff, that my mother decided to buy her two guinea pigs, she takes care of them but doesn't acknowledge them past feeding and stuff.
I expressed that we shouldn't get any more pets, 5 was more than enough. Last month we adopted another kitten, I will admit I fell hard and its come to the point where she's known as my cat, but I still stood by the fact that we have too many pets.
Now my mother is in the makes of adopting another dog, a rescue and I know I need to put my foot down, there's not enough food and money for everyone and the pets. We aren't broke but we do live from month to month and sometimes money is scarce to the point where I'm having to put my own hard earned cash into helping pay for food and electric.
I don't know how to tell her to just stop
For context the residents in our house 4 teens/young adults 2 adults (one disabled) 1 special needs child And currently 6 pets soon to be 7
My mother also has a habit of dragging me into her ideas, so whilst I've said I don't want another dog, I'll be the one who has to do all the walking because of her disabilities.

2023.06.07 11:04 lechatheureux The Tonpa Kingdoms Part 2 (The Kingdoms of Jangshun and Monyul)
Check out part 1 for context
The Tonpa Kingdoms Part 1 (Overview and The Gods) : worldbuilding (reddit.com) There are 5 connected Kingdoms that have Tonpa as their main religion these are.
Jangshun A Place of snow-capped Mountains and green Valleys, said to be built upon the ruins of the ancient Jungar people who controlled much of the area of Jangshun and the nearby kingdoms of Monyul and Taishigang.
Very little is known about the Jungar, their ruins are scattered throughout the landscape of Jangshun, and are often characterized by simple stone structures, pottery shards, and other artifacts. Based on these remains, it is believed that the Jungar were a relatively simple society, with a lifestyle that revolved around farming, herding, and other basic activities.
Despite their lack of sophistication, the Jugar are an important part of the history and culture of the region many myths and legends have grown up around them, the people of Jangshun often see the Jungar as a symbol of the enduring spirit of the region, and take pride in the fact that they were able to survive and thrive in a harsh and unforgiving environment. In addition to their physical remains, the Jungar have left a lasting impact on the people of Jangshun in other ways. Their language, customs, and traditions are thought to have influenced the culture of the later kingdom, and many people still feel a strong connection to the Jagun and their way of life.
The Capital of Jangshun is called Druktse, founded by Dragon Priests and the legendary Namgyal dynasty the city is known for its unique architecture, with buildings made of wood and stone, intricately carved and painted with colorful designs and motifs, the streets are narrow and winding, with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze and the sound of temple bells ringing in the air.
At the center of the city is the Royal Palace of Jigme Wangchuk, a majestic building that serves as the residence of the Royal Family, the palace consists of several wings and halls, each with its own specific function. The main hall is the center of political and ceremonial activities, where the king held court and received important guests. The royal family's private quarters were located in a separate wing, with opulent living spaces and lavish decorations.
One of the most impressive features of the palace is the Eagle Tower, a tall structure that houses the elite Eagle Guards, who were responsible for the king's security the tower is covered from top to bottom with intricate carvings of the bird of prey.
The palace is surrounded by lush gardens and fountains, and it is guarded by soldiers in traditional Eagle attire, the Eagle Guards of the palace of Jingme Wangchuk are an elite group of soldiers tasked with protecting the king and the royal family, known for their fearsome reputation and exceptional combat skills, the Eagle Guards are considered one of the most prestigious units in the Jangshun army.
The guards are named after the majestic eagles that inhabit the mountainous regions of Jangshun, and they were trained to emulate the hunting tactics of these birds of prey. They are adept at using the terrain to their advantage, and are particularly skilled at scaling steep cliffs and mountainous terrain to surprise and overwhelm their enemies. In addition to their exceptional combat skills, the Eagle Guards were also known for their loyalty and dedication to the royal family. They undergo rigorous training and were selected based on their physical prowess, intelligence, and character, to become an Eagle Guard, applicants must be graduates of both the School of the Father and School of the Dragon.
The Eagle Guards are outfitted in distinctive uniforms that featured a stylized eagle emblem, and they were armed with a variety of weapons, including bows, spears, and swords. They were also known to use eagle feathers and talons in their armor and equipment, as a nod to the unit's namesake.
Druktse is a hub of cultural and religious activities, with several monasteries and temples located throughout the city.
The most famous of these is the Tashicho Dzong, a stunning fortress monastery that serves as the seat of The Gyelpa (The Duke) the secondary ruler of Druktse and the center of Druk-Ta worship. The dzong is surrounded by high walls and towers, and is accessible through a grand gate that is guarded by soldiers. The interior of the dzong is a maze of courtyards, chapels, and offices, all connected by narrow passageways and staircases.
One of the most impressive features of Tashicho Dzong is its towering central fortress and monastery, which rises above the rest of the complex and can be seen from miles around. This fortress is home to the Dragon Priests and is one of the most important structures in Jangshun. The fortress monastery is also famous for its beautiful architecture and intricate artwork. The walls of the courtyards are adorned with colorful murals and paintings, while the chapels are filled with statues and other religious artifacts. Visitors to Tashicho Dzong can tour the complex and learn about Jangshun history and culture, as well as observe the daily routines of the monks who live and work there. The Monastery is open to the public during certain hours of the day, and visitors are advised to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the chapels. Even though the current royal family of Jangshun are connected to The Father, The Dragon holds a special place in Druktse.
The people of Druktse are known for their warm hospitality and their strong sense of community. They celebrate several festivals throughout the year, including the annual Tshechu festival, the 3 Gods Festival which features colorful dances and rituals performed by monks and laypeople.
To the north-east of the Kingdom lies the second biggest city in Jangshun, the city of Lhagyal, often called “The Fire-proof City”
Lhagyal is a mass of stone walls and buildings with precious little wood being used at all, the walls of the city are imposingly high and even the central palace is relatively flat and does not rise above the walls, there are 4 gates made of pure steel and those are the only entrances and exits.
Inside the city walls, the streets are narrow and winding, with tall, tightly packed buildings constructed from rough-hewn stone. The architecture is distinct, with flat roofs and ornate metal doors decorating the doorways and windows, many of the buildings are built into the city's walls, their backs resting against the ancient stones.
There is more to the city than what meets the eye. Beneath the streets lie a labyrinth of tunnels and catacombs, built for both practical and spiritual purposes. Some are used for storage or as escape routes, while others are filled with ancient artifacts and sacred relics. The catacombs are also home to a complex network of underground temples and shrines and busy streets that are home to underground residences and businesses.
Despite its rugged appearance, the city's architecture is a testament to its resilience. It has withstood numerous attempts at invasion over the centuries, including attacks by powerful enemies armed with the latest in siege weaponry. The city's fortifications are a marvel of engineering, designed to withstand even the most devastating attacks and yet, for all its defensive prowess, the city has never lost sight of its cultural heritage.
The most famous instance of this was when the neighbouring Confucian Kingdom of Jinyun attempted to invade Jangshun with its impressive military might, scores of loyal foot-soldiers hardened by decades of conflict and advanced siege technology that included weapons that used fireworks.
The city withstood months of warfare with Lhagyal earning its nickname of “The Fire-proof City” The stone structures withstood the fireworks and the hard rock of the walls withstood the Jinyun catapults, outside the city several guerilla efforts by the Eagle Guards, The Company of the Hand and The White Tigers from Monyul lending their support repelled attempted on-foot invasions by the hardened Jinyun soldiers.
In the south-west of Jangshun, near the borders of Monyul and Taishigang lies the town of Gyalpeling, a place revered by monks and pilgrims alike. Gyalpeling, meaning "Abode of the Victorious" is a small yet vibrant town located in a remote corner of the kingdom. Its strategic location, surrounded by imposing mountains and blessed with fertile lands, has made it a crucial hub for spiritual activities and monastic life. The town is centered around a grand monastery, which serves as the heart and soul of the community. The monastery, known as Samtenling Monastery, is a majestic complex of ornate buildings adorned with colorful murals, fluttering prayer flags, and the sound of chanting monks echoing through the air. It is a revered place of worship and learning, drawing scholars, practitioners, and seekers of wisdom from far and wide. The streets of Gyalpeling are lined with modest housing for monks, adorned with intricate woodcarvings and colorful paintings. The locals, known for their warm hospitality and deep reverence for Tonpa, every activity the townspeople engage in helps the monastery in some way, whether trading, farming or craftsmanship, every resident of Gyalpeling helps out the monastery in some way. The town also boasts natural hot springs, believed to have healing properties, which attract pilgrims and visitors seeking solace and rejuvenation. The pristine rivers and lakes surrounding Gyalpeling add to its enchanting beauty, serving as places for meditation, ritual ablutions, and scenic walks. Gyalpeling is not only a place of spiritual significance, but it also serves as a center of learning, with numerous scriptoria, libraries, and meditation caves where monks engage in intensive study, contemplation, and meditation, prospective monks come from all over the 5 Kingdoms to study in Gyalpeling, as monks educated within its walls are valued in any court of the Tonpa Kingdoms.
One of the most valuable cities in Jangshun isn't far from the capital, a short 1 hour horse ride east of Druktse stands the city of Jangtse, a jewel in the crown of the kingdom. Jangtse, meaning "Silver Peak" in the local tongue, owes its fame and prosperity to the rich veins of silver that run through the nearby mountains, making it a thriving center for mining and trade. At the heart of Jangtse rises a magnificent conical palace, known as Jang Potrang, or the "Silver Palace." The palace, glistening like a beacon atop the tallest hill in the city, is adorned with silver-plated roofs, walls, and pillars, reflecting the sunlight and casting a mesmerizing glow over the surrounding landscape.
