Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse Streaming Release
There’s been no official announcement regarding Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse’s streaming release. However, given it’s a Universal film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse will eventually be released on Peacock rather than Netflix, HBO Max, or Disney+.
As for a potential release date, we know the Universal-Peacock deal requires movies to be released on streaming no later than four months after their theatrical debuts. Universal’s past two movies to hit Peacock — Knock at the Cabin and M3GAN — were added to the service 49 days after their debuts. This, theoretically, puts Mario’s streaming release date as early as May 24 and as late as August 5.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse Available On Amazon Prime Video?
Universal Pictures has not yet announced when Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse will be released on streaming platforms. However, it is safe to assume it will be streaming on Prime Video since Amazon now owns Universal pictures, as of 2022. It looks like the movie will be in theaters for around 45 days before it becomes available on Amazon’s Prime Video or any other streaming platform.
We’ll update this space when we have more information about when it’s due to arrive on streaming. Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse is currently screening in the US, the UK and plenty more markets around the world after releasing on Wednesday, April 5.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse Be On HBO MAX?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Warner Bros. movie. The company previously released its movies on the streamer and in theaters on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
While we don’t yet have a confirmed streaming release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse, we can look at other Universal releases in 2023 to get a sense of when it might be available to watch at home.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse Be On Netflix?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse will likely not be on Netflix any time soon, seeing as it will go directly to Disney+ after its theatrical run.
A similar timeline would put the rental release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse in the UK in early May, but it’ll then be another month or two until you can buy and own a copy of the movie.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse Be on Disney+?
While a streaming release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse has not yet been announced, Disney typically sends their movies to Disney+ around 45 days after the theatrical release — and more specifically, on the Friday after that mark. With this strategy, we could be watching Avatar: The Way of Water from the comfort of our homes by early April 2023.
What is Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse About?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse is an animated, feature-length film based on Nintendo’s iconic video game property. Here’s the official synopsis from Universal Pictures

2023.06.08 00:37 Longjumping-Zone-732 GRAND UNIFICATION THEORY BY TRENT THOMAS THE PROPHET OF MEDICINE

Although more writing is imminent, the world needs to know about this. It connects the quantum web, and allows all laws to be valid Inter-Dependent of one another across the board. It is all linear, and always relative within nature. This unlocks the biggest secrets of scientific study.
All research done by myself, without having ever entered a university level education. Copyright Trent Thomas, 2023.
GRAND UNIFICATION THEORY
THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING
GOD IS IN THE COSMOS
GOD IS EVERYTHING
BY: Trent Thomas the Prophet of Medicine
June 6th, 2023.
We come into the world the same way that we go out, they say. Out with the old, in with the new. Metaphysical reality, quantum mechanics, and relativity have yet to be unified. Until now. We are all safe to say that in this reality we will all be alive for a very long time. We will be happy, Joyous and Free. We will sing songs to our Father the Sun, and our Mother the Moon; on our Father the Earth, with our Mother Water. Everything is relative. The sun, the moon and the stars represent the wave, the particle, and the Aether. The experiment performed in the 1960’s called “The Double Slit Experiment” made way for a new paradigm of thinking. In old ways of thinking, people thought that particles could connect all the way around the earth. This experiment showed us that light is both a wave and particle at the same time, dependent upon whether it is observed or not. In the experiment, they cut two vertical, parallel slits on a piece of black 35mm film, and projected light through the slits. With a device measuring which of the two slits the individual photons fired would go through or a conscious observer present, the pattern of light on the screen below would be as expected, two vertical bars of light with dots, as pictured below:
📷
When they repeated the experiment and removed any device to measure the particle and also removed any conscious observers, the light manifested as a Wavelength with an interference pattern; as if two ripples in a pond were to overlap, as pictured below:
📷
Thinking of particles as inaccessible vessels of information telling us the story of our origins and what we are made of should take less precedence over understanding the Almighty Laws of Nature that govern the bodies of everything within the feedback loop that is the cosmos. None of histories most esteemed scientists have ever been able to unify all of these Laws which have been proven in their individual right. However, when one uses the Wavefunction Particle Trinity as the unifying unit of measurement across the strings of the Aether, it becomes evident that the reality one sees is compromised entirely of this single unit of energy. It harnesses all virtues of electromagnetism, light, radiation, seismology, all the way down to nuclear physics and astronomy. Everything is relative. Feedback loops in mirrors are relative to fractals, as everything in Gods great energy is relative to nature’s perfection. God does not make mistakes. Each observing particle creates a chain reaction through the chain gang network of the Aether, which spreads with a velocity inversely proportional to its size as a subatomic particle, which creates the metaphysical reality that we can all simultaneously co-exist in. This is why we all perceive the same things, at the same “time”, relative to our position on the planet to the other observer. Time is merely a construct used to take measurements. Space-time is literally all the same as this single golden fiber of the Aether. This is the unit of the Trinity, the Wavelength, the Particle, and the Aether. This supple environment of strings that vibrate or ‘resonate’ at a very high wavelength like taut strings of a Piano long after the hammer has struck it lends fertile ability to manifest itself anywhere along the 3-dimensional axis of our perception via particle disturbance on a subatomic level. When thinking of the Big Bang Theory, one must understand what it is we are taking part in. We are within a feedback loop of energy, comprised of the holy Trinity of metaphysical reality; which is linear and is a spectrum of relative energies. When studying consciousness in humans as a measurement of how everything in this dimensional plane is relative, one must consider the wisdom of animals. Inversely proportional to their ability to verbally communicate and teach, is their actual understanding of the Cosmos and their ability to sense Energy. In humans with downs-syndrome or other mental health diagnoses such as Schizophrenia, it is the same. In the latter with Schizophrenics, it is relative to their ability to cope with the intensity of the power of the true Spirit of the Divine. Same is true with Savants or individuals with specialized abilities in certain mental faculties, where other areas lack. I.E. advanced mathematicians, musicians, etc. who do not have very much social intelligence. This manifests in many other ways in psychology as well. Narcissists, for example; are creating their own reality by manifesting what they believe to an extent that they literally believe it themselves. But relative to the amount of belief there is in any given thing, is the response by natures feedback loop of medicine. This is what leads to frustration when dealing with these kinds of people, or Cognitive Dissonance, which, again; is the perfect example of relativity. This manifests itself as a measurable example of nature’s Karmic scale, through observation of people changing their behavior as to align it with their beliefs and moral scale. Morals, Values, and Ethics are the holy trinity of mortal existence on this linear plane. Without these, we are headed towards destruction.

2023.06.08 00:35 BeautifullyInspire My boss took my name off an Emmy award win

I know this is first world issue and people have other problems. But please give me the opportunity to vent.
Bit of background to set the stage
I hold a degree in linguistics and I have been working in the video industry for 10 years. I have some mental issues, but Im considered high functioning. I suffer from extreme low self esteem, depression, and have social anxiety. I am not considered attractive and I am female. I was misdiagnosed with borderline retardation as a child, which delayed my education. Therefore, it’s difficult for me to get people to take me seriously.
Main: actual vent
My boss told me that I was going to win an Emmy for a series I worked on with she and a colleague. It would have been my first ever. Turns out my name got left off the award. It only allows 5. Three names were dedicated to production, two others were sales and accounting.
My colleague who worked on more episodes than me rightfully got credit, but my name was removed and my boss announced to the whole station that it was because of "lack of space." It's frustrating because I worked on the series too. Honestly, if anyone deserved full credit, it was my colleague who did 4 episodes. I did 1 and my boss did just 1.
I wish she could have left both our names off or included mine as well…and deleted the admin people. Plus, she already has two Emmy wins this year, so it would have been nice for me to get some recognition too.
In addition… I was invited to attend the Emmy awards but my boss said they only would send people who were actually in the lineup to receive an award and if I wanted to go I would have to sit out-of-pocket. So I said I think I’d like to go…and then she went and freaking changed her mind saying that “there’s not a lot of hotel space so maybe it’ll be rude of you to go, (my name)”

2023.06.08 00:35 The-Grand-Potatoe Knife Questionnaire

I’m overwhelmed in the world of Japanese knife makers… please help

  1. What budget, currency, and region are you based in/can purchase from? -
    1. Idealing i’m looking for something in the $100 - $150 range, but can go over that for the right knife, USD, I’m in the Seattle Area of the United States
  2. What length, handle type, and profile are you looking for? -
    1. I’m looking for a paring knife or small Petti (90mm -130mm), Ideally a Japanese Octagonal handle, but open to a western style.
  3. Intended use case of the knife? Be as specific as possible -
    1. Primarily used for cutting fruit (no stone fruit) and decorative cutting. Example scoring bread or cutting fruit to decorate baked goods.
  4. Do you prefer a high performance knife with a thin, fragile edge or a knife that trades off cutting performance for a more durable and forgiving edge? -
    1. Looking to prioritize cutting performance over durability
  5. Do you require a stainless knife? -
    1. No, I’d actually prefer a high-carbon knife that will patina over time.
  6. What knives have you owned? What do you like/dislike about them? -
    1. Zwilling Bob Kramer Carbon Steel 2.0 10 inch chef's knife. I love this knife, the patena is beautiful, the edge retention is better than anything else I have, and I like the weight of it.
    2. Shun Kanso Asian Utility Knife. This was my first eastern style knife. I love the flat profile, this is my workhorse for most veggi prep. I really like the shape and look of this knife. Down sides, it’s a little heavy and thick, it has a tendency to wedge a bit. Its edge retention is also sub-par for what I expected from Shun… I will likely replace this knife with a thinner, higher performance knife in the future.
    3. Victorinox Rosewood Santoku Knife, 7-Inch. I bought this for my wife so she wouldn’t touch my other knives. I needed something that she could leave in the sink without making me cringe. That said, I actually use this knife a lot… I love how light it is, how thin the blade is, and the edge retention is great. It just doesn’t look very nice…
  7. What knives are you considering? What knives from the flowcharts interest you? Provide links where possible.
    1. I’m a little out of my depth here… hence why I’ve come to this group for help. Here are a few that i’ve found that I’m initially drawn to.
    2. Takamura Knives Chromax Steel Hammered Petty-Utility Japanese Knife 130mm Brown Pakka Wood Handle
      1. I don’t know much about Chromax steel… But I really like the hammered look and the “rustic” handle. Although I would prefer a dark wood octagonal handle
    3. Kikusumi BLACK GHOST 5″ Petty Knife
      1. This is well above my stated budget, but the size and style are perfect. I also don’t know much about G3 steel in comparison to high-carbon steels.
    4. Tsunehisa AS Kurouchi Petty 80mm
      1. This would be great if I could find one.
  8. Any other additional context that you would like to give? (finishes, special requests, specific materials, height requirements, etc.)
    1. I prefer darker handles. I don’t like Damascus finish, but I do like a hammered finish.

2023.06.08 00:30 JeliPuff Felix Vail: The Pedophile Serial Killer Caught After 54 Years (PART 1)

Yesterday I had multiple people ask me to post this, and their comment has 552 likes at the time of me writing this, so I have spent the last day and a half editing, and adding information so it's up to standard. Overall, it has taken me close to a week to make. It probably isn't perfect, but I will edit it if I notice any mistakes. I hope you enjoy ❤
I would like to start this off by saying that this is an incredibly long write-up. This case spans 54 years, and this write-up is over 8650 words long, and is in fact so long that it exceeded the character limit, forcing me to make 2 parts. u/that1guywiththehat has already covered this case, and their write-up is much shorter. I will link it here, and you can check it out if you'd like. They did a fantastic job. 😊
https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/g3wqcc/after_18yearold_annette_craver_vail_vanishes/
Secondly, this write-up borrows EXTENSIVELY from "Gone," a 35,500 word book about the life and crimes of Felix Vail. It contains information that you simply cannot find anywhere else, and I'd estimate that around 80% of this write-up uses it's information. While it's extremely long, being over 4 times the length of this write-up, it is well worth the read. I will also link it here so you can check it out if you'd like.
https://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/local/felixvailgone/2016/12/29/felix-vail-gone-one-wife-dead-two-other-missing-jerry-mitchell/95895894/
Now with that out of the way...

PART 1:

MARY HORTON:

Born on the 16th of February 1940 to Floyd and Lillie Horton, Mary was popular, beautiful, and well liked. She became homecoming queen at Eunice High School and wrote for the school newspaper. After graduating she began attending McNeese State University where she was so popular that all 5 sororities invited her to join. She eventually chose Chi Omega.

A FATEFUL ENCOUNTER
In 1960 she began dating William Felix Vail Sr, who goes by Felix. He was 6’, slender and in the words of another sorority girl “looked like he’d been touched by heaven.” In her diaries and messages to friends, Mary spoke of being happy and excited. However, not everything was sunshine and rainbows for the young couple.
On June 20th, 1960, Mary confided in a friend “I really do love Felix, but I don’t think that I like him anymore. He really is sweet, but we don’t see eye to eye on things.” She requested that a friend set her up on a date with another man in the hopes that Felix would leave her.
In response to this date, he came to Mary saying he suffered from a disease. She asked what disease he had. He meant Mary.
The 2 had a conversation that Mary described as ‘Felix doing all the talking, and her just listening.’ He told her that he had changed, and she said that she had too.
The 2 began dating again, but Mary continued to see other people. She attended a house party with Kelley McFarland, who afterwards heard that Vail was so angry he ‘wanted to kill him.’ McFarland tracked him down, eventually meeting him in dark woods. The 2 exchanged no blows, and they went their separate ways.
After this incident, Mary described herself as “miserable” and Felix as “jealous”, although she reiterated her love for him. There was reportedly an incident at a pool party where Felix “walked up to Mary and just slapped the heck out of her,” according to Mary’s high school boyfriend Leonard Matt.
Despite everything, Mary continued to defend him, calling him a “wonderful person.”
THE MARRIAGE
On July 1, 1961, in Eunice, Louisiana, Mary Horton and Felix Vail got married.
https://www.clarionledger.com/gcdn/-mm-/3a212b032aef874dfc60297c45f3a63946f5aeee/c=0-304-1765-2658/local/-/media/2016/12/28/JacksonMS/JacksonMS/636185193505145184-1022maryhorton003.JPG?width=300&height=401&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp(Mary Horton in her wedding dress, July 1st, 1961.)
In the fall of that year, Mary began her job as a second-grade teacher at Moss Bluff Elementary School. That December, she found out she was pregnant. Another teacher, Myrtis Quinilty said Felix didn’t want a child.
Her sister-in-law, Sue Jordan, told Mary the only reason Vail believed she wanted to get married was to have a baby, and not because of him. Mary blamed herself, saying “I can see, looking back, from many things I said how they could have been misunderstood.” Mary insisted that the couple were happy but did comment on how unattractive she felt while pregnant, a sentiment that Felix shared.
On their anniversary, Mary gave birth to William Felix Vail Jr, who they called Bill.
https://www.clarionledger.com/gcdn/-mm-/c701d4cdc0e5ff127e79b575a1c137adfa57d585/c=0-0-180-240/local/-/media/2016/12/28/JacksonMS/JacksonMS/636185195986996911-TCLBrd-08-11-2016-ClarionLedger-1-A001-2016-08-10-IMG-636047953682196834-M-1-1-G0FAJ00I-L860703094-IMG-636047953682196834-M-1-1-G0FAJ00I.jpg?width=180&height=240&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp (Mary holding Bill in 1962)
Within a month, Mary suspected that she may be pregnant again. At this time, strange things began to happen in the couple’s apartment. One morning, the couple awoke to find their front door had been removed from its hinges. Another time, they found the front door of their apartment wide open. Nothing was stolen.
Mary began receiving threatening calls. The couple concluded that whoever was calling must be watching them because the caller only ever did it when Felix wasn’t home.
Mary spoke with her mother about divorcing Felix. Her mother, a devout Catholic, urged her daughter to stay and work things out. It would be a fatal mistake.
MARY'S DEATH
On October 28th, 1962, at 7:30pm, Felix Vail drove up to Shell Beach saying that his wife had fallen in the water of the Calcasieu River while they were running trot lines. It took 2 days to find her body, close to where Vail had said she disappeared.
Her funeral was held on October 31st. Vail never paid a cent for it.
On November 4th deputies arrested Vail at work, hauling him to jail and questioning him. He refused to take a lie detector test. The coroner ruled Mary’s death an “accidental drowning,” a sentiment not shared by the officers who found her body, or the community at large. Days later, Vail was released without charge, as the D.A declined to prosecute.
Months later, he picked up his son, Bill, from the Louisiana home of his late wife’s aunt and headed for Mississippi. According to Bill years later, Vail told him that he and Mary were out fishing, that a boat had come by and caused a big wave and knocked her out of the boat. Mary didn’t know how to swim, had no life jacket (despite being afraid of water) and so immediately sank and drowned. He said he had almost died trying to rescue her.
I will go further in depth into Mary’s death further down this write-up when I go through the investigation that followed, decades later. There are more details that I will cover there.
ROBIN SINCLAIR:
In this section I will cover his relationship with a girlfriend between the murders of Mary Horton and Sharon Hensley. Vail was a full-time scumbag and I want to illustrate that, as well as show some of the other lives he’s impacted, and other people he’s hurt. I will be covering multiple instances like this one. If you only want to read about the 3 murder victims, feel free to scroll down, I have them clearly marked for convenience.
AN 11 YEAR AGE GAP AND A DEAD-BEAT DAD
In 1967, Vail met a 17-year-old Robin Sinclair at a bus stop in San Diego. (Vail would have been 28 at this time. Large age gaps will be a theme in this write up.) She was spending the summer there with her sister, and the 2 began dating. When summer break ended, she left without him, returning home to San Francisco.
In October of 1968 while attending an Iron Butterflies concert, Vail appeared again. Sinclair took it as a sign that the 2 belonged together. He had his young son Bill, and the 3 bounced from place to place together. Sinclair would later describe how Bill was poorly looked after, neglected and that Vail would even give the young boy drugs. Bill would later recount his father giving him LSD as a child.
While watching over another couple’s home during the Christmas holidays, she learned she was pregnant and shared the news with Vail. He said, “Well, I don’t think you’re emotionally stable enough to handle the pregnancy.” The next morning, Vail and his young son had vanished. A friend told Sinclair that he went back to Mississippi, that it was time for his son to go to school and that he didn’t want to be with her.
Heartbroken, Sinclair would move in with her parents. In August of 1969 she gave birth to her daughter, who she named Simone. She wrote Vail an angry letter, and 2 months later he showed up on her doorstep. She told him to leave, and that she never wanted to see him again. She never did.

SHARON HENSLEY:

Sharon Hensley was born on December 20th, 1948. Growing up in the state capital of Bismarck, North Dakota, she dated football players and belonged to the high school’s 'Demonettes', an award-winning dance team founded by a former Rockette.

(A photo of Sharon Hensley.)
She graduated in 1966, and attended Bismarck Junior College, where she took classes in dance and acting, performing in a play with her older brother, Frank.
In 1967, aged 19, Sharon discovered she was pregnant. Wanting to escape her hometown, she followed her brother Frank and other classmates to San Francisco. After arriving, she stayed in a home for single mothers, where she gave birth to a girl she named “Cherry” after the popular Neil Diamond song. She told friends she wanted to keep the child but was unable to. Two years after leaving for California, Sharon was in jail and her mother, Peggy, headed there with a $5,000 cashier’s check to bail her out. When she returned, Sharon wasn’t with her.
“She said she had lost her daughter,” her younger brother Brian would later say. “She cried almost every night. She was never the same after that.”
MEETING VAIL
While house-sitting in a high-rise apartment, Vail would meet his future girlfriend, Sharon. She was 20, and attractive, having even modeled in her teens. They became friends, and then started a relationship despite the 10-year age gap.
While hitchhiking across California, Vail would confess to Hensley that he had killed Mary, something his son Bill overheard. Because of this, Bill would later go to the police to report his own father for murder. The police at first didn’t believe Bill, but after camping out on the front steps, one detective listened. He told the detective that he was hungry, tired of using the drugs his father gave him, that he wanted to go back to school, live like other kids, and that he had overheard his father admit to killing his mother.
At a beach along the Merced River, police found his father and Hensley, carrying a bag of LSD capsules. Police charged the couple with LSD possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Vail received a six-month jail sentence, plus three years’ probation, after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of LSD possession.
California police shared their information with Louisiana authorities. Once again, the district attorney in Lake Charles once again passed on prosecuting Vail for murder. Another fatal mistake.
Bill returned to Mississippi to live with his grandparents, who then gained full custody. On January 23rd, 1971, Vail and Sharon showed up in the driveway. Bill thought Vail was there to kill him, and his grandmother had to reassure him that he was safe.
The father and son eventually sat down and had a talk. Vail told Bill that he didn’t blame him for the time he spent in prison, but instead blamed Sharon, which the young boy found strange because “she had nothing to do with it.”
The family wondered how the couple could even legally be in Mississippi if they were supposed to be on probation in California. They couldn’t. After a visit from the Sheriff, the 2 were smuggled out of town and given enough money to get back to the West Coast.
In the Summer of 1972, the couple appeared unannounced at Sharon’s childhood home in Bismarck. The more the family saw of the couple, the more horrified they became. Sharon wore a mini skirt with no panties and had armpit hair and leg hair "like a man." She had been losing weight and losing clumps of hair.
Her younger brother Brian said it felt like his sister had been brainwashed. If someone asked her a question, “either Felix would answer the question for her, or she would look at Felix while she was giving the answer.”
The couple left then North Dakota and traveled to Mississippi, where they stayed with Vail’s family. On the dairy farm the family owned, they helped paint the home. The couple also sunbathed in the nude, drawing the ire of neighbors.
Peggy Hensley received a telephone call from Sharon, who said she and Vail were heading to New Orleans and then to Miami to make pornographic films. She believed it was a cry for help as “what daughter tells her mother she’s going to do a porno?” Sharon’s parents wanted to travel down to get their daughter back but couldn’t. (The 2 did end up shooting pornographic scenes together, but I won’t get into any of that.)
In early 1973, Sharon called and talked of traveling to South America with Vail, where they would eat natural foods and write a book. It was the last conversation the family would ever have with her. Soon after, she would send her final letter. It contained a photo of her holding a pen, captioned “making travel notes.” It was the last picture ever taken of Sharon Hensley.

THE DISAPPEARANCE
In March of 1974, Peggy received a letter from Vail, claiming he was in West Florida. He wrote that he last saw Sharon about a year before in Key West, with an Australian couple that was traveling around the world. All he recalled was the first names of the couple (John and Vanessa), who were talking with Sharon about “island hopping around South America, the West Indies, --- Hawaii for a while, maybe a couple of years in the Philippines, then India, Egypt and the Mediterranean islands and coasts. I don’t know which of these (if any) they decided on or in what order.” Peggy didn't believe a word of it.
In the fall of 1975, Vail’s mother wrote to the Hensley family, saying that her son was surprised the family hadn’t heard from Sharon during that time. Interestingly, Vail told his mother the names of the couple that Sharon left with were Frank and Sally, different names than he had given a year earlier. Vail explained to his mother that before Sharon left, she had burned all her identification cards, got new IDs, and declared that she would become a completely different person.
Bill recalled his father mentioning Sharon. “He said she would never bother anyone ever again.” The words upset Bill, who believed his father had just confessed to another murder. “There was not a soul I could tell about it because I had had my experience in court when I was 8, no one would believe me. It would be my word against his, and no one would believe a 13-year-old.”

SHARON CAMPBELL:
I want to talk about this relationship because of the egregious age difference. For reference, Campbell is only 4 years older than Vail’s son.
While riding a bus to north Mississippi in 1975, Vail sat next to 17-year-old Sharon Campbell. Despite being literally twice her age, he commented on how fit she looked, saying "he needed someone like her to keep him fit." In spite of this, she felt flattered and shared her telephone number with him. Not long after she got home, Vail appeared in a yellow Volkswagen bug.
Vail said he wanted Campbell to travel with him, and she told him the only way her parents would allow it was if they got married.
On July 24, 1975, they did, honeymooning in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
In court years later, she would tell prosecutors that they never consummated the marriage because “he was unable to obtain an erection.” (This isn’t relevant, I just wanted to include it out of spite because fuck this guy.)
Several weeks later, she went with Vail to visit his relatives in Louisiana. There, she said a niece told her, “You probably need to know that he killed his first wife --- they arrested him. We all believed that he did it, he drowned her out of a boat.”
Campbell didn't believe them, telling herself that he would be in prison if he was a murderer. But as the months passed by, she concluded that he “had no value in the female gender,” and that “he hated women.”
She later traveled with Vail to his parents’ home in Montpelier. While there, he was outdoors working on the Volkswagen and Campbell walked closer without him noticing. He opened a compartment, and she said she saw “sinister, surgical looking saws of all shapes and sizes in a neat formation.” To her, the sight screamed evil. “It scared me. I said, ‘I’m not going anywhere with you.’” She left, annulled the marriage, and never looked back. It was likely the best decision she ever made.
After the divorce he would marry a woman named Carolyn in 1977. The relationship would end after he cheated on her with a woman named Alexandra Christianson during a double date. When Carolyn called Vail’s mother and asked her if the behavior surprised her, she simply replied “no.”
After being served the divorce papers, Vail smashed his car into her MGB Sports Car. A month later he would call her saying “I love you.” She did not reciprocate. She would later describe Vail as “mentally deranged.”

ALEXANDRA CHRISTIANSON:
Alexandra is the woman Vail cheated on Carolyn with. She eventually got married to him in Mexico after he officially divorced Carolyn. Not long after their marriage, she heard that Vail was cheating on her.
After a motorcycle accident, he came to rest up at her condo in Costa Mesa, where she confronted him about the cheating. He reportedly got agitated and said, “you know my first wife died.” When she replied saying he’d told her she drowned, Vail shot back “I could have saved her, but I chose not to.”
After telling him to leave, she went to have a shower. While in the shower, Vail attacked her, wrapping his hands around her neck. Hearing her screams, Alexandra’s young brother came in, grabbing Vail and forcing him to the ground. Vail then left.
Soon after this, she found out she was pregnant. The child was still-born, and Alexandra was heart-broken. She would later lead important investigators to witnesses that were used in Vail's eventual trial.
In part 2, I will cover Vail's final victim Annette Craver, and the lengths her mother went to to finally secure justice.

2023.06.08 00:28 EnviroNew1919 Please Help me decide 4090: MSI Titan GT77 vs Alienware M18 vs Razer blade 18, as Desktop Replacement

I know this is not a new question but I still can't decide after watching a bunch of reviews, so any suggestions would be really appreciated cause I don't want to regret spending 5000$
My use case might be a little different as I expect to use the laptop really as a "Desktop Replacement", put it on a cooling pad and use with at least one external monitor for most of the time. Right now I have a 27inch 4k 60hz LG and plan to get a 27 inch 4k gaming monitor. In day time I would use both to work, and afterwork I want to use the laptop display or only the gaming monitor to play some FPS and 3A games.
I hope the laptop is powerful enough to use with a 4k gaming monitor and can achieve as high frame rate as possible. I guess this is related to graphic card so I am looking at 4090, but not sure what other specifications also matter. I also hope that it can be durable, can run for 10 hours a day, play games on an external display for 2-3 hours without too lagging, and be able to be used in this way for 2-3 years without parts wearing out or breaking down.
MSI Titan GT77: The most powerful and the closest one to a Desktop Replacement. Probably have a better longevity. But also the most expensive and tbh I don't really like its design.
Alienware M18: Also a huge machine and I prefer its design more than GT77. I hope its size bring the consistent and durable performance I need, but I've found some negative reviews concerning its liquid metal, cooling, and screen quality.
Blade 18: Premium build quality and design. I checked various reviews and it seems that for this generation blade 18 have quite good cooling and performance while using less watts. No sure about the longevity because its the thinnest and customer support is bad, but I would buy at Local Micro Center if that helps.
I did not mention Scar 18 cause I owned an ROG before and want to try something different, but would definitely love to know if it could be a good fit or if there is other choices . Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
P.S: I hope to consider laptop over desktop first because I probably need to relocate some times in the future.

2023.06.08 00:27 Aware-Material507 A Robotic Overmind for a Dungeon 24

First Previous
Advancing with my remaining fully functioning forces, I stop at the first of the four warehouses doors. They were large, about twice my height and three times as wide, and completely made out of some rather dulled plates of steel. I position my two scorpions to face the doors and have the rest of the group form up behind and on the sides of them. Once they are all set up I push the doors open with a heave and quickly rush to the side, giving my scorpions better sight lines.
It is a good thing I did too as they proceeded to fire their beam tails into the poorly lit interior of the warehouse. While the light from the beam faded swiftly, it was long enough for me to see a glimpse of what was inside of the room for a moment. I managed to spot a total of around 10 drones, four of which were scorpions and the rest were a scattered group of spiders. From the looks of it one of the beams managed to hit one of the enemy's scorpions but the rest of them began to give off the familiar humm that my scorpions released just a few moments ago. Realizing what they were about to do I ordered for my drones to break formation and scatter but it unfortunately was too late as 3 beams struck out from the scorpions in the dark, hitting two of my hounds and one of my scorpions.
My four hornets that I brought with me fired off their spikes into the unlit warehouse and from the sudden halt of two of the silhouettes of dark red light coming off from the drones, marking them as MAI's, I would presume that at least a couple of the spikes had found their mark. My hounds were next to act as they all at once rushed into the structure in search of the drones that dared fire upon them and their drones in arms. I ran forward with them, but due to my much greater mass, I only catched up to them after they had begun ravaging a spider drone that was caught out in the open.
The lighting in the warehouse was poor, with only some side windows high on each side of the structure. Thankfully it was enough to see the general contents of the room which was full of crates of various sizes. Seeing a faint glow in one of the said crates I walk up to it and pop the lid open and I find a spider shivering in fear. Looking at it I feel slightly bad for it as it was obviously scared shirtless and was fighting for the wrong person, not that I could do anything about it. Or can I?
I was able to convert that one small drone works to my side so why should it not work on drones too? As I begin reaching down to gently pick up the spider I hear a loud crash followed by the barking of a few of my hounds. I guess it will have to wait. I put the lid of the container on and locked it before rushing over towards the sounds of combat further into the warehouse.
As I pass another pile of containers I find one of my drones stunned against the right wall. Turning to my left I see three of my hounds all teaming up on two of the scorpions. As I start to wonder where the third scorpion is, I dive into the cover of some nearby crates as a beam of energy pierces through the air and hits where I was just a moment ago.
Thankfully more of my drones, in the form of another hound and a hornet, rush forward and reinforce the ongoing brawl. The hornet fires off their spike in the general direction of the one unengaged enemy scorpion but, from the look of it, the scorpion in question managed to duck in time. I really need to find or make a dedicated weapon instead of just picking up whatever it is around at the time.
Sighing as I scoop up a few rebar poles, I take a step back before hurling the pole. Although I am not the greatest javelineer in the universe, through a stroke of divine intervention I managed to impale the scorpion that fired upon me straight in-between their eyes. With that, the engagement has swung into my favor considerably. And just to add salt to the wound, some of the drones the scorpions hit with their stun beam began to regain their control and joined the fight.
Not long after that, the last of the scorpions fell to my hoard of drones and all that was left were the scattered spider drones all across the building. Ordering my drones to capture instead of kill if possible I get a message pop up notifying me that I have defeated the garrison of this outpost. I guess there was nothing else hiding in any of these other warehouses. I wonder what's in them.
I guess this is the perfect time for now, I order a few un-damaged hounds to guard the captured spiders and I send everyone else to get tended by the repair team. With that settled I walk over to the second warehouse and pop open the door revealing much of the same compared to the previous warehouse. Moving over to the third I open up the doors and am greeted with a collection of drone and resource producing equipment. There was a small drone works along with a medium as well and in the corner of the building was a refinery.
If my memory serves me right, the medium drone works need an external power source to function for any extended periods of time. Which means there is something that can generate electricity somewhere. Looking through the doors of the building and to the final warehouse, I could guess where it might be located.
Opening the final door I reveal a generator along with a few small mountains of barrels. Taking a look into the barrels I find a faintly yellow substance residing inside them. Inspecting the generator a description pops up in front of it stating that it was a chemfuel powered generator. I guess that's what is in the barrels. Taking a look at the piles of said barrels, I see that I have a decent supplement of chemfuel which will probably last me for quite a while.
Deciding that I did not need to start up production anytime soon, I left the generator be for now. Walking out of the warehouse, my eyes land on the batch of six spiders. Wait, weren't there seven before? Then I spot the mangled corpses of a spider around a half dozen feet away from the rest of the bunch. Well that explains it.
Stepping towards the imprisoned drones, that were still being dutifully guarded by a couple of hounds, many scuttle as far away as they could before their captors began to growl causing them all to freeze. "Hey guys, I'm not here to hurt you, I'm going to cut you all a deal," A few relax a smidge when they hear me say that I wouldn't hurt them but most still huddled together and looked back with a fair amount of skepticism. "I guess that's fair, I did shut down your scorpion cousins. But that aside, I offer that you can join us or I will let you free on the condition that you give up your ties to my enemy."
I draw a line in the middle of the group, "If you wish to join me then step on the left side, if you wish to be let out into the wilds than move to the right." A pair of drones begin to hesitantly step to the left but are then attacked by 3 their seemingly more zealous brothers and or sisters. I quickly grab the three aggressor and place them away from the group and have my hornets quickly end them.
Once I finish with that I see the remaining spider drones have decided on their fate. The two spiders that decided joining me were better or the threeish options have stepped on the left side and their glowing joints have turned blue that matched the rest of my drones. The last drone had stepped to the left without me noticing and their joints had turned into a neutral gray.
Keeping my word I pick up the gray spider and release them into the wild. Hey, maybe they'll start their own spider colony I jokingly think to myself. I have the turncoat spiders join the others and as they begin to mingle I notice that the turncoat drones are made of a slightly darker metal.
Then a notification pops up stating that I gained a new skill. Expanding the pop up, I see what it was referring to.
"New skill gained: Minor Drone Conversion. Have a 25% chance to successfully convert a captured small drone."

Posts might come in late over the summer due to family outings and such but I'll try to keep this going on my free time if possible.

2023.06.08 00:25 DM_Pheemy Black Earth 3051

I'm gonna write a few journal entries from the perspective of a Jade Falcon Mechwarrior left behind during the year that the Bloodnamed warriors returned to Strana Mechty to elect a new IlKahn. The setting is, of course the IP of Topps and Catalyst. OCs and events are my own creation.
- Dezzy
Trell I 0330 hours Zulu 05 Nov 3050

Star Captain Josey Falcon, F Binary, 322nd Cluster of Delta Galaxy stood just outside his Star Colonel's staff office.

"Enter." came the short response to the chime announcing Josey's arrival. The voice was terse, and the sharp way it was delivered through the door set Josey's senses on edge.

Josey Falcon did not possess a Bloodname. Worse, he was a freebirth. The sole reason he even had his rank was from an exceptional performance during his trial of position just before Operation: REVIVAL. Even then, he'd had precious few opportunities to participate meaningfully in the Offensive. Constantly bid away during planned system invasions, assigned garrison duty or meaningless "mop up" patrols. Worse still were the times his Binary was assigned pacification duty on conquered worlds, putting down partisan and resistance activity. Using 75 ton Battlemechs to fight civilian militias armed with hunting lasers, shotguns and the occasional Agrimech retrofitted with munitions hidden away in Civil Defense caches.

He wondered gloomily what punishment Star Colonel Elijah Manley was going to inflict on him this morning as he entered the office.

To Josey's surprise, the Star Colonel, and his clerks were busy packing the office. In a hurry.

"Star Captain. I have news. The IlKahn is dead." Star Colonel Manley spoke in short, curt statements, like even spendng the breath to elaborate to Josey was beneath him. The Star Colonel continued. "As consequence, all Bloodnamed Warriors are called to the system Paulus Prime. You, and your Binary are being reassigned. Be ready to leave by 0900 06 November. That is all, dismissed."

Josey remained at attention in shock for a moment too long, trying to process the announcement of the IlKahn's Death.

"Dis-MISSED Star Captain!", Star Colonel Manly ordered with irritation of having to repeat himself.

Josey gave a salute, then retreated from the office, not turning his back to his superior officer until he was in the hallway with the door shut.

"IlKahn Showers is dead?" Josey thought to himself as he went to inform his Binary of the new order.

Black Earth 1616 hours Zulu 14 Nov 3050

Star Captain Josey's Binary makes planetfall on board the Emerald Dusk, a Union-C Dropship. The Emerald Dusk bringing Josey, his Binary, and a Nova Star They picked up from Derf along the way. It made for a crowded trip. All fifteen Mech Bays filled, His Mechwarriors, the five Mechwarriors of Nova Captain Blaze's Star, all the technicians assigned to the Mechs, and twenty-five Elementals of Point Commander Danute's Star, under the command of Nova Commander Blaze. All their equipment, gear, and support personnel. For 10 Days of in-system travel between Trell, Derf and Black Earth, everyone was double and triple bunked. Even the Elementals. Everyone was in everyone's personal space and the fact that most of the Elementals, and Nova Commander Blaze were trueborn made for short tempers and a throroughly miserable trip.

Josey watched his, wait. No, not his. Clan Jade Falcon's Timber Wolf to which he was assigned, emerge from the dropship and stride towards his Binary's hangar. Josey and his Mechwarriors walked to their assigned barracks. They had less than 45 minutes to get their bunks sorted, maybe visit the fresher and learn where the briefing was being held.

At 1700 hours Zulu; Josey, Star Commander Yeva of 2nd Star in his Binary, 11 other Mechwarrior Officers, 2 Aerospace Star Commanders, 45 Technical Officers, 9 Infantry Officers, 12 Infantry NCOs, and the 5 Elemental Point Commanders crowded the Officers' Mess. Star Colonel Mingati and her executive staff, which comprised the entirety of 1st Star, A Trinary brought the briefing to order.

"Operation REVIVAL has been suspended until the conclave of Bloodnames elects a new IlKhan." Mingati began. "During this period, we are designated as the 53rd Provisional Garrison Cluster, Delta Galaxy under the operational command of acting Galaxy Commander Mentari. He will direcctly involve himself only when necessary and then through the Chain of Command. We ae expected to function as a formation efficiently and independantly, maintaining order on this world, and ensuring the Lyrans and their Mercenaries continue to cower before the conquests of the Falcon."

At this, the Elemental Point Commanders chanted their approval in the ancient rituals of Old Earth until Mingati raised her hand to quiet them.

"This world has been pacified for six standard months. I am not expecting any change among the local population. However, a change in this scale may encourage underground partisans to probe our resolve, and seek weakness. If they do we will show them only beak and talon for the Jade Falcon has no weakness." Mingati continued with her introduction.

"Our primary concern are threats coming from the Lyran systems within a single jump of Black Earth.", a holographic display of nearby star systems flickered on next to Mingati and in front of her Executive Staff. She highlighted each system as she announced them. "Barcelona, Kikuyu and Mogyorod are our most immediate concerns. Newton Square, Clermont, Chahar, Blue hole and," she sighed with a mixture of amusement and derision, "Kookens Pleasure-Pit." Mingani paused while the assembled officers laughed, made crude remarks, and exorcised any remaining immaturity out of their systems.

She brought the room back to order saying, "May I continue? Thank you." Mingani's eyes rolled to the ceiling briefly. "They are outside of a single jump into this system, but deserve watching. The world of Pasig is the local territorial capital for this region of Lyran held space. While it is outside our normal radius of scrutiny, it merits intelligence gathering. It is the belief of The Watch that any coordination of a counteroffensive will first be generated here."

"I turn to defense of our own systems now." The Holograph of local space focused on the jade neon greed region that designates Jade Falcon conquered systems. "There are Provisional Garrison Clusters on Roadside, Hot Springs, Beta and Golandra. These are all within a single jump of Black Earth. In the event that the Lyrans attack with a force greater than a single cluster can reasonably defend against, reinforcements can be drawn from any or all of these systems. We will be expected to hold out until they arrive, but that help will be on planet in no more than 7 standard days. Likewise, we are expected to answer calls for assistance from any of these systems if they find themselves in a similar engagement. Delta Galaxy Command does not expect any such counteroffensive this far out from the front. But, should the suspension of Operation Revival give the enemy enough time, an strategic flanking attack is possible."

"The Bloodnamed will return with a new IlKahn and the liberation of Terra will proceed with all of the success Clan Jade Falcon has enjoyed this past year. We will perform this mission as JADE FALCONS are expected to perform every mission, with exceptional success. Our Bloodnames will return to find their conquests secure and ready to launch the final push to Terra." Mingati scanned the room, making eye contact with as many trueborn as she could find. Josey was keenly aware that there were very few officers who received the honor.

"You are dismissed. I expect each of you to have duty rosters and a schedule of Officers of the Day on my desk by 2000 hours." The room stood to attention, saluted, and remained at attention until the Star Colonel made her exit. Josey and Yeva returned to their barracks to brief their Mechwarriors and develop duty rosters as assigned. Tomorrow will be when the real work begins. Star Captain Josey looked into the sky. This was going to be a hard mission.

What he didn't realize then was how long that mission would take.

2023.06.08 00:25 RealAd1811 How to be more likable at work?

I’ve always struggled with this. I am 30F. I have always been very capable at work and a hard worker, dependable and highly accurate, organized, and efficient. I struggle socially, though.
At my first office job, the director and my manager were grooming me for management, but what they struggled with with me is that I “didn’t smile enough,” and “didn’t talk in the break room enough.” I’ve always been known as very nice, but very quiet and timid. In other circumstances I’ve been told I smile too much, but that’s probably just my social anxiety. I am quite the introvert, and offices give me some anxiety, and the lights make my eyes strain, so maybe I don’t look the happiest.
I also had to give presentations with my manager to new sales and service reps, and definitely felt pretty awkward. I don’t exactly want to be a manager, because I don’t know that I’d be social enough or good enough to manage people, maybe I am more of a worker bee.
At my last office job, we were remote. I connected pretty well with one coworker and alright with the others, but definitely felt a bit outside of the group of 7.
I’ve been at my current job for 2.5 weeks. I went from being remote for 3 years to in office full time, and it is an adjustment. I was very stressed the first week especially, and not used to interacting with others (I live alone). My coworkers have made several comments about how quiet I am. However, I think my boss is now very happy with me since I started actually doing work the last few days after training finished, and I have caught on extremely quickly and am entering orders with no errors, when she is expecting me to have errors for a while. Two of my coworkers keep making comments about how quiet I am, and one said I better start talking more and contributing on my second day.
I also am worried about being “too good” at my job. One of the supervisors sent me a confusing order that she knew I’d have trouble with yesterday without mentioning it’s a hard one, and I did it perfectly. I felt like at my first office job my boss was threatened by me, as I was very young and doing a great job and the higher ups really liked me. I am nervous for that to be a situation here.
I hope I don’t come off as bragging or self important. All I am is a customer service rep, but I have lots of experience and I’m good at it. I just need feedback on how to act socially. I still remember a comment a coworker made ten years ago, about how I don’t invest in people. I always see jobs as temporary as well, and never really commit myself to the company or even career. I believe in myself, know that I’m sharp and capable, but I don’t know that I see customer as a long term career, as it is bottom of the rung, doesn’t pay very well, and I don’t think I’d be a good manager of people since I’m not very social. But, my degree is in communications, and I’m not sure what would be a good fit.
Any advice? I always feel like an outsider and obviously the problem is me.

2023.06.08 00:23 jazzymoontrails HELP...B2B is so different than DTC.

Hello! I wanted some opinions from fellow EAs. This is fully remote, and my prior job was fully remote.
TLDR at the beginning: started out in DTC ecomm, CEO and directors were angels to work for, stayed up late to solve problems WITH the team, very hands on. Now I am in B2B with 2 finance bro co- founder CEOs who are the opposite from the DTC CEO. They have never ever scaled a business themselves, and are trying to scale one to which I am their EA/operations person. Having a massively difficult time with how out of touch they are with the reality of internal ops, not reading shit I send, not sending me documents I literally NEED to do my job, and an overall weird culture of SALES SALES SALES only with ZERO care about literally providing me with the minimum requirements for internal harmony- example being I have asked for the same thing 4 times with no follow up and I cannot submit something important without it. Is this normal for B2B or nah, and what do I do?
Context is necessary.
My last job was in the DtC ecomm sphere. It was a startup brand with products in a very particular niche. We blew up and began rapidly growing on social media. Eventually we redirected a lot of time into lifestyle content within the niche...the CEO loved marketing and social media stuff, totally excelled at it, and wasn't shy about not jiving much with CX stuff and operations. That is where I came in: I LOVE CX, ops, and internal stuff. Eventually I built out the CX department with another person, helped build out operations procedures, KPIs, SOPs, the whole nine yards, and aided the CEO wherever needed. At that time, CEO was a one person show...no board of directors, no C-Suite team. It was pretty much just him, the warehouse manager, HFinance guy, and myself + one other person in CX. The dynamic was very interesting. I didn't exactly even have a title, but we referred to me as a "CX/operations supervising manager" until my promotion.
By the promotion, we did have a Director of Brand Management, but no C-Suite. We ended up hiring a Director of E-commerce but that person didn't begin until my promotion started.
The promotion was to become our company's "project manager" where I worked specifically right under & with the brand director, mostly focusing on the marketing team and contractors vs working with customers and operations. This wasn't a huge change as far as what I did internally...my role before, while in CX, was primarily making sure that all things CX ran smoothly, training the team, developing best practices, doing literally any and every task that was sent my way from the CEO or marketing manager (who became the Director of Brand Management). The only thing that changed was not dealing with customers anymore and having more official responsibilities + a title. I still worked with the same folks, was basically the same as far as hierarchy went (although technically higher up due to the other title changes and no longer being responsible for any basic CX stuff), and my relationships with those in the company only slightly changed due to departing from CX stuff. This is all to say that things were VERY chill, my coworkers and higher ups were freaking amazing, and I will always love them. I sadly had to quit because I needed to find a job that had a certain benefit that this company sadly didn't qualify for, or else I'd still be there. Basically, my work was not EA but everything I did was assisting the CEO and stuff he needed to make the operation run smoothly from everything but marketing, to my best ability.
Now, I have become an EA for a B2B sales startup. HOLY FUCK. HELP. I have nothing actually bad to say about the two co-founders I work for as people, but man it is so so so so different.
In DtC, we stayed up until the sun came up solving operations problems. We literally had no "off" switch which I know was not healthy but like...we didn't let things slide? We ran a tight but chill ship bc we were just...all on the same wavelength? Idk.
The CEO was not your typical businessperson- like I said, very creative minded and into content stuff. Everything was extremely straightforward. I never had to guess what was up, if there as a problem, best believe everyone knew. I feel that this next point is also relative, just to understand the culture of the prior company: CEO and every other major person on the totem pole I mentioned was high functioning autistic/neurodivergent. They've been open about this on public podcasts and shows, so sharing this isn't a problem. But with that, things were about as straight forward and blunt as you could get, but also really keenly aware of how they acted bc of masking. I have ADHD so I kind of get it, but we were open with this fact and idk it was nice I guess. Hard to explain.
Now, my new company is nothing like this. The co-founders are two finance bros who were kind enough to bring me on to help, as I do know them IRL. This job accommodates the thing I couldn't get at my prior job due to location. The first, guy one, is literally like the your typical transactor archetype who is an ultra mega "Chad" frat boy, he is actually very funny and full of life. The other, guy two, is like a lone wolf archetype of salesman with absolutely zero time for humor or BS. Talks big smack on Guy One not having his shit together (receipts, contracts, the whole nine yards) but does the same things, but is not at all self aware that he does the sameeee shit. Thats fine, I know that is part of it and tbh it is my job to take that stuff over now, thank God. I report to Guy Two, but take tasks from both.
So to continue, all that is fine, I get thats how things work especially in the beginning. But where I am struggling is the gravity of how drastically different they are than the prior guy + team I worked for. I do also get that no job is alike, but after years working under literal angels of a CEO + directors who basically never fucked around and you always knew where you stood, this is so different. I think this is because we all scaled the business together and DtC Ecomm is very different than B2B sales.
Guy One and Guy Two both literally have never once had to scale a business on their own so they do not understand the basics of what needs to get done. Zero structure, boom thats where I come in and what they need help with due to my background. When I establish structure, they literally have NO problem telling me they didn't read anything I said but "good job thank you so much". But then, when Guy Two and I meet, he is confused and he doesn't understand why something is the way it is despite me having everything mapped out.
This weeks meeting, Guy Two and I finally met to go over the stuff I had been establishing internally. This was a shit show. I literally had to remind him that everything he was seemingly worried about, he had literally commanded me NOT to touch with no updates or clearance to touch or ask about, lol. It got to the point where I had to just stop saying "well, in my notes I do have it down that I was asked to not touch that, but I am happy to shift gears and take that up now" and just drop the whole reminding him that he told me not to do it and just say "I am happy to take that over". Literally after 45 minutes of meeting, he couldn't handle any more operations and basically had a tantrum and vented to me about how badly he needed a drink and how he had so many meetings today and we would pick back up later next week. WHAT? No!! We needed this done NOW. When is it my authority to manage up? It is very difficult to manage up to your CEO, and not very common...right?
My questions do not get answered, I cannot get ahold of them easily, and they do not do what they say they're going to do. I know I am there to help but I NEED THE DOCUMENTS and other shit to HELP. This is all remote, btw. Like there is serious serious serious money involved here that I am responsible for since I am doing all the reporting right now. Some of the reporting requires a bit more than others, to which I literally need an answer for in order to get us all paid properly. I could go on and on, but it seems like they just have zero capability of thinking of anything but SALESSSS MONEEYYYYY CLIENTS!!! and thats it, but want a good operation, but do not care to review what I am establishing, and then get confused.
Is this normal for sales bros? Am I just a total noob of an EA? What do you do to change this shit so stuff doesn't keep skipping thru the cracks with MY needs in order to perform MY job without pissing them off, bugging all day? I did start a channel specifically for urgent questions but like...I have asked for important documents from Guy Two like 4 times now with no result! Do I bug him daily? That sounds miserable but like, I need these documents to do his accounts. I am so lost dude, SOS. I did not have this problem in my prior role, ever. Yeah, the CEO was overwhelmed, but he always got shit back to me after the 2nd nudge.
I have a digest every day of what I am doing, and a digest weekly of what got done and what needs to get done next week... but like I said, they do not read it. They read NOTHING. If they aren't reading anything, and do not want to do meetings, what are my options?

2023.06.08 00:23 sonofabutch Smoked out tonight, so let's remember a forgotten Yankee: Tom "Smoke" Sturdivant

The 1950s Yankee dynasty had some great hitters -- Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Moose Skowron, Hank Bauer, Gil McDougald, just to name a few -- but the key to going to eight World Series between 1950 and 1959 (and winning six of them) was a pitching staff that led the league in ERA in five of those 10 seasons -- and in the top three in all 10!
Whitey Ford was the ace of the staff, going an unbelievable 121-50 (.708 W%) with a 2.66 ERA (140 ERA+) between 1950 and 1959. And that was with Casey Stengel often skipping Ford against weaker teams to save him for tougher match-ups, meaning that most of those wins came against top competition. In 1956, for example, the Chairman of the Board had 10 starts against teams with losing records, and 20 starts against teams with records of .500 or better. He went 7-1 with a 2.27 ERA against the losers, and 12-5 with a 2.59 ERA against the winners!
But behind Ford were some pretty good if less famous pitchers, including Allie Reynolds, Eddie Lopat, Tommy Byrne, and Bob Grim. And another, even lesser known hurler won two rings as a key member of the Yankee rotation: Tom Sturdivant.
A hard enough thrower in his youth that he got the nickname "Smoke," by the time Sturdivant reached the Yankees he was called "Snake" because of the way his pitches moved. He threw a curve that broke away from right-handed batters, a screwball that broke away from lefties, a sinking fastball, and a looping change-up. All were good pitches, but none of them was great. Ted Williams was asked how Sturdivant was so successful without overpowering stuff, and he replied:
"Maybe he hasn’t got a thing. But I notice one thing. He keeps winning."
Eventually he did find a thing, though. Particularly later in his career, Sturdivant became known for his knuckleball. He would call it his "money pitch." He also complained about the pitch like an unruly pet, saying "it just won't act right 'til late in the season."
Born in Gordon, Kansas, on April 28, 1930, Thomas Virgil Sturdivant grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Capitol Hill High School. Sturdivant was signed by Yankee scout Tom Greenwade, who also signed another kid from Oklahoma, Mickey Mantle. Like Mantle, Sturdivant was signed as an infielder. But Sturdivant also was a pretty good pitcher as a teenager, as Greenwade told a reporter:
"Used to be a high-school pitcher in Oklahoma City, you know. And one of the greatest. He set some kind of record. More than 100 innings without being scored on."
Sturdivant struggled to hit his first few seasons as an infielder in the minors, hitting .246 in 281 at-bats in 1950. He then spent all of 1951 and much of 1952 in the U.S. Army, and -- as happened to most major leaguers drafted into the service -- spent most of his time playing baseball for a base team. (As Whitey Ford once said: "Army life was rough. Would you believe it, they actually wanted me to pitch three times a week!") Sturdivant's success pitching in the Army, as well as a leg injury that cost him some of his running speed, convinced him he should ask the Yankees to try him at pitching.
"I knew I wasn't getting anywhere, batting .246 in Class B, so I decided I'd better try something else if I wanted to stay in baseball, which I did, badly."
He returned from the Army in time to pitch 86 innings with the Yankees' Double-A affiliate, the Beaumont Roughnecks, and went 3-3 with a 3.56 ERA. His days as an infielder were over.
Sturdivant went 10-7 with a 2.98 ERA in Double-A the following season, and 8-9 with a 3.57 ERA in Triple-A the year after that. Yankee pitcher Allie Reynolds, a fellow graduate of Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City who had gone 20-8 for the Yankees in 1952, had retired after the 1954 season. That winter, he worked with Sturdivant and told him he might make the Yankees in spring. Sturdivant's hard work that off-season impressed manager Casey Stengel. "We learned that he can be a fighter, and that's what we want with this club," he said.
He made the team out of spring training and made his major league debut on April 14 against the Red Sox at Fenway Park -- Boston's home opener. Bob Grim started the game and was bombed for five runs on seven hits through six innings. Sturdivant entered the game in the 7th, with the score 5-2, and gave up another run. The Yankees battled back in the bottom of the 8th, scoring two runs on back-to-back singles from Elston Howard and Jerry Coleman to make it a two-run game, but Sturdivant gave up a two-run single in the 8th to pitcher Ellis Kinder to put the game out of reach again, and the Yankees lost, 8-4.
In 33 games that year, Sturdivant posted a 3.16 ERA and a 1.302 WHIP, not bad for a rookie. He didn't give up a lot of hits, but he did walk 41 men in 68.1 innings. Stengel didn't mind that, though. In a 2020 article, "Big Walkers", Bill James wrote about how Stengel employed a strategy of "pitching around" power hitters. When a slugger was at the plate, pitchers were coached to work the edges of the plate, not giving him anything good to hit. He might chase pitches and strike out... he might hit something off the end of the bat... or he might walk. Any of the three, in Stengel's opinion, was a better outcome than throwing a pitch down the middle to a guy who could hit it 450 feet.
As a result, the Yankees often were near the top in walks allowed -- but also in fewest home runs allowed. And also in double plays. And also, not coincidentally, in earned run average.
In his five seasons with the Yankees, Sturdivant walked 221 batters in 524.1 innings (3.8 BB/9), but only gave up 45 home runs (0.8 H9). He also induced 44 double plays. James, in looking at what made the Yankees successful in the 1950s, discovered that they had a huge differential in HR-GIDP. In 1955, Sturdivant's first year in the league, the Yankees hit 175 home runs, and grounded into 101 double plays (+74). Yankee opponents had 108 home runs, and grounded in 145 double plays (-37). In 1956, the Yankes were +86, their opponents -53.
James wrote:
This is not a typical championship team pattern. In many areas, the 1950s Yankees were just an ordinary team. They really had only one outstanding starting pitcher, while Cleveland usually had three or four. But the Yankees huge advantages in Home Runs vs. Double Plays enabled them to win almost every year.
Sturdivant rode this strategy to back-to-back 16-win seasons, going 16-8 with a 3.30 ERA (118 ERA+) in 1956, and 16-6 with a 2.54 ERA (142 ERA+) in 1957.
After those two great seasons, though, Sturdivant's career went up in... well... smoke.
In Spring Training 1958, he held out for a raise, eventually signing for $18,000, a $4,000 raise from what he'd made the year before. He gave up 10 runs in his first two starts of the year, and then missed a month with a sore arm. When he came back, he was hit hard in his next three starts, and was banished to the bullpen. After a pretty good month (8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K), he was put back into the rotation, and went 3-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 32.2 innings, but his arm still wasn't quite right, and he missed some time in August due to a heel injury. He was on the World Series roster in 1958, but didn't pitch.
All off season there were rumors that Sturdivant was on the trading block, and after another slow start -- 0-2 with a 4.97 ERA, and still bothered by his sore arm -- he was dealt to the Yankees' favorite trading partner in the late 1950s, the Kansas City Athletics. "Snake", along with Jerry Lumpe and Johnny Kucks, was dealt for Ralph Terry and previously forgotten Yankee Hector Lopez -- a pretty good deal for the Yankees, as Terry and Lopez helped the Yankees to five straight pennants and two championships between 1960 and 1964. Lumpe, a little used utility player with the Yankees, proved to be a solid regular for the Athletics and then an All-Star with the Tigers in 1964. But Kucks, an All-Star with the Yankees in 1956, was done, going 12-21 with a 4.78 ERA (84 ERA+) in two seasons with the Athletics, and was out of baseball after the 1960 season.
Sturdivant would hang around another five seasons, and pitch for six different teams! He went from the Athletics to the Senators -- not the original Senators, who were now the Twins, but the expansion team founded in 1961 that would become the Rangers in 1972 -- then the Pirates, the Tigers, back to the Athletics, and then rejoined Casey Stengel on the Mets in 1964. Over that stretch he went 21-20 with a 4.16 ERA and 1.301 WHIP as a swingman.
The 34-year-old Sturdivant announced prior to the 1964 season he was running for the Oklahoma State Senate and that he'd quit baseball if elected in November. The Mets beat him to it, though, releasing him in May after he posted a 5.97 ERA in 28.2 innings. Maybe more as a campaign ploy, in July Sturdivant signed with the Oklahoma City 89ers. He went 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA and 1.365 WHIP in 74.0 innings. He lost the election, and retired from baseball.
After that, Sturdivant owned a trucking company and tried to drum up support for the Hall of Fame case for his old mentor Allie Reynolds.
In 2000, the 69-year-old Sturdivant was in a serious car accident. Someone -- he never learned who -- found him on the roadside, thrown from his truck after it had rolled five times. When the ambulance arrived, they thought he was dead. They strapped his body to a stretcher and loaded him into an ambulance.
Sturdivant told sportswriter Brian Jensen:
"When we were driving to the hospital, I was in the back and they had me strapped down and I guess when I came to, I raised my head and I said, 'hey could y'all call my wife for me,' and the driver almost jumped out of the van. It just wasn't time for me to go."
He had broken his back, both hips, his pelvic bone, his tailbone, multiple ribs, and had a punctured lung. He never recovered.
"I don't have a life," Sturdivant said. "You know, I have a hard time remembering a lot of stuff and I'm kind of slow. I kind of have little spells where I pass out and have a hard time walking straight."
Sturdivant died on February 28, 2009.
Smoke Show:
Sturdivant remained a Yankee for life. After his playing days were over and he was living in Oklahoma, he was an early adopter of a subscription service that allowed him to watch Yankee games!

2023.06.08 00:21 Trash_Panda_2365 What stitches and seams are best to use for athletic wear?

Hello Reddit Friends,
Question for my sewing pals that know a ton more than I do.
I am in the process of starting a womens golf clothing brand, and am working this manufactures to create my products. (Think golf dresses, skirts, polos - made from 220-240g nylon spandex blend stretchy quality fabrics)
Having ordered from a few different manufactures, I am really starting to notice and pay attention to the stitches being used and the seam quality. (Which a lot are lacking in the quality area lol, and my goal is quality even when it’s turned inside out, and durable. No one wants a hole to form in a seam etc.)
SO MY QUESTIONS FOR YOU ALL: (so I can sound smart and like I know what I am talking about when talking to manufacturers)
  1. What would you say are considered high quality, durable stitches to use on athletic wear?
    • example flatlock (I think)
  2. Same question, but recommended seams to use? (Or phrases I can say that get my point across that I want quality)
    • example maybe being “squat proof?”
  3. Are there specific machines I should be asking if they have it?
    • for example an industrial flatlock machine.
  4. Any other key words, machines etc that I should look up and know what they are and mean.
    • ex SPI (had no idea what that was and recently learned higher SPI means higher quality)
Off topic but if you know the answer that’d be awesome.
  1. What on earth determines “high quality” performance fabric?
 - I received 2 dresses from 2 different manufacturers that used 220g 70% nylon and 30% spandex fabric… but the fabric is still different. One is shinier, almost wet feeling to the touch. And the other is more cotton like to the touch. The wet to the touch seems better for medium intensity sports. But I don’t know what to ask for, that makes it like that since the “ingredients” are the exact same.
I know I’m asking a lot. If you are someone who knows a lot about this topic, DM me so we can chat more and I’ll happily pay you pay for your time and advice.
THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance.
