Choosing the right American Racing Wheels
Here are some easy to remember tricks.
> Determine your vehicle's bolt pattern and sizing requirements:
Before you start shopping for a set of aftermarket wheels, it's essential to know your vehicle's bolt pattern and sizing requirements. The bolt pattern refers to the number of lug holes and their arrangement on the wheel hub, while the size refers to the diameter, width, and offset of the wheel. Check your vehicle's owner's manual or consult a professional for accurate information.
> Consider the type of driving you do:
The type of driving you do will play a significant role in determining the best wheel for your needs. If you primarily drive on highways and city streets, you may want a wheel designed for comfort and fuel efficiency. However, if you frequently drive off-road or participate in motorsports, you may require a wheel with greater durability and performance capabilities.
> Choose the right wheel material:
American Racing Wheels are generally made from cast aluminum, which offers an excellent balance of strength, weight, and affordability. However, there are other materials available, such as forged aluminum and high-quality carbon fiber. While these materials may provide additional benefits in terms of performance and weight reduction, they often come with a more premium price tag.
> Research and compare wheel models:
Once you have a clear understanding of your vehicle's requirements and the type of wheel you need, it's time to research and compare various models. Take your time to read a lot of reviews, gather feedback from fellow enthusiasts, and consult with professionals to ensure you choose a wheel that meets your needs in terms of performance, durability, and style.
> A word on budget and aftermarket support:
When choosing American Racing Wheels you intend to use for a long time, it's essential to consider your budget and the level of aftermarket support available. While some wheels may be more expensive upfront, they may offer greater durability and performance, ultimately providing better value for your investment. Additionally, consider the availability of replacement parts and aftermarket accessories, as this can have a significant impact on the overall cost and convenience of maintaining your wheels.

2023.06.07 11:03 BleakWinterUnblack Creating an Unblack metal band. Thoughts - see below.

Hey all, as this is the only Unblack page on Reddit, I figured it needs some fresh posts.
The black metal project is "Bleak Winter", I know, the name has been completely been overused and appears in many albums and songs.. but you know what.. I don't care and I love it :)
The music project is a bridge between old and new Black/Unblack metal. Now this is has been done before, again and again, except that I am designing the music as an adventure to be undertaken with a character that both Black and Unblack listeners can enjoy. I won't be revealing my aces as there are ideas that I don't want to release En Masse, or our 62 members :), this album with be littered with mature themes, and gruesome sound effects, all this will be of course Christian in foundation, however not in complete reverence to Christ, as in my personal life.
A small example to explain the above statement is, I only like Black, death and all metal as long as it's Christian. I also like John Wick and LoTR, I still love the lord, however like most, not absolutely every single aspect of my life is Christian (as obviously if Christ was here in person I am quite doubtful he'd enjoy John Wick). Though my foundation is Christ (always), the music/album will be about a story and character, and the content, heavy enough that Black listeners, will only know it's Unblack due to my usernames, email addresses and advertising here and on Bandcamp that I rep Jesus :). I hope this makes sense and I haven't lost you. If I did, here is the summary -- I'm Christian who is making Unblack metal with a project dark, gloomy, spiritual, brutal, mature, without compromising Christ or swearing, etc.
The music which has already started, which I'm too nervous to release any demo out, just yet. However may need guidance and assistance as I have never played instruments. I just have been screaming for around 17 years. So I have my scream and 3 songs sorted.. mostly.. two of them are instrumental :P.
The scary thing is without instrumental knowledgeable and my desire to share this with everyone, I am left to two decisions, to be open and transparent that I use all software instruments. Or gathecreate a network of people who would assist, help or wish to be a part of an Unblack metal project.
This decision is hard and has led me to starting to learn guitar, as that will take time to be a shred tremolo king I either have to release songs software made with me screaming as my only "talent", or whether or not releasing that would be an instant destruction of the project -- as "real" Black metal listeners would be appalled at the use of this.
What are your guy's thoughts, are you interested in an adventurous style of Black metal, of both new and old, ambient and Atmospheric with hints of break downs, chugs, heavy growls mixed in with shrieks and wails of terror, pain and anguish, battling spiritual beings, going on an epic quest in a historical fiction mixture of music - can software be used with a project that will be all of Black metal styles and influences in one. Can people just accept not everyone can play guitar, bass, drums and scream, all while mixing, mastering and creating all material, music, songs, lyrics from scratch (Like all other bands lol).

2023.06.07 11:02 Less-Document4584 I’m worried my little sister is going to commit suicide, and it’s taking a toll on my mental health

My little sister (22f) has been struggling with her mental health for years now. Among other things, she has severe anxiety, an eating disorder, and I suspect depression as well. Her mental health took a turn for the worse when she entered high school, and it has been bad with waves of even worse ever since.
She’s been seeing a therapist for a long time but it doesn’t seem to be helping. And I feel so guilty, but I am so angry because it just seems like she’s not doing anything to help herself either. She took herself off of her medication last year without telling anyone. She’s not eating nearly enough and is at a dangerously low weight. She doesn’t bathe regularly or clean her room. She doesn’t leave the house, ever. She doesn’t attend in-person classes or have friends at school. She has no hobbies, no interests, no aspirations. She sits in the dark playing video games every moment she’s awake. She doesn’t want to enter a program for help or change therapists. I am so, so incredibly and sickeningly worried about her and have been for years.
It’s terrifying. I’m terrified. I’m worried every moment of every day. Every time I get a text from her saying “I love you” my stomach falls through the floor. Every time she ignores a text message I start panicking. In the past, I’ve had to sit with her through nightmarish panic attacks. She’d be curled up on her bedroom floor, sobbing and tearing at her clothing. I’d sit with her and watch her every move, take every sharp object out of her hands the moment she grabbed one, pull her nails off her arm as she scratched at herself, and tend to her wounds once she was calming down. I’ve driven her to the ER in the middle of the night and sat with her outside until her panic attack subsided. I’ve had her scream at me on the phone to get over to her because she’s in the middle of a panic attack.
These days, she keeps far more to herself but we all know she’s not doing well. She still talks to me about her troubles from time to time and I say and do what I can to help, but she usually winds up ignoring me. I still get the random late night texts that make my blood go cold. I see her new clothing torn, holes ripped into them during recent panic attacks. And yet she doesn’t want help.
What’s been eating me alive lately is that I’m growing tired of offering it. I’ve found myself becoming more and more frustrated, more and more resentful of a situation I have no business being angry over. But I can’t help it. I’ve dropped so much to be there when she needs me. I’ve seen and dealt with things no young adult should have to. I’m in my mid twenties, I should be having the time of my life. I don’t want to have to worry about my little sister taking her own life every waking moment. I don’t want to worry about my father’s declining health because he can’t sleep out of worry for my sister. I don’t want to worry about my mother becoming more and more stressed as she watches her daughter grow skinnier and skinnier before her, with no ability to help. I don’t want the topic of every family meal, every gathering, every celebration to be how bad my little sister is doing, what are our next options, how can we help her, “we’re so glad she at least talks to YOU, OP”. I want to live my life without feeling like my family is being stalked by the grim reaper. I don’t want to play spy or therapist any more. I don’t want to lose any more sleep or decline any more plans.
I feel so guilty feeling like this, making this situation about me, but I am so, so tired. I am sickeningly frustrated. I have no tolerance for anything any more. Nothing is enjoyable for long. I would move away but the worry would only multiply tenfold. I just want her issues to vanish. More than ANYTHING. I want her to have a normal life. I can’t imagine how she must feel dealing with all her issues if I feel like THIS just from being around it all.
But also, I want my family back, I want my life back. I can’t deal with any forms of stress any more. I’m spent, absolutely exhausted. All I want to do is sleep. I’m seeing a therapist myself, which helps a lot, but at the end of the day I’m still living at home with all this stress and absolutely nothing I can do about it. I have no power to help beyond what I’ve been doing and that clearly isn’t enough.
I love her so much. I want her to get better and she won’t. I want to escape and I can’t. I spend every day terrified that today will be the day I get the call. I have never felt so trapped and so miserable as I have the last few days, and there is no end in sight. I’m being dragged into a tunnel that is just getting darker and more terrifying with every step, and I can’t escape. There is no way out.

2023.06.07 10:55 Babycloud20 Dealing with Skin Changes During Pregnancy: Tips and Advice

During pregnancy, it is common for women to experience various changes in their skin due to hormonal fluctuations. While some changes may be temporary and resolve after pregnancy, others may require additional care and attention. Here are some common skin changes during pregnancy and tips for dealing with them:

Stretch marks: Stretch marks occur when the skin stretches rapidly, causing the collagen and elastin fibers to break. To minimize the appearance of stretch marks, you can try using moisturizers or creams specifically designed for stretch marks. These products often contain ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, or vitamin E. Regular massage and keeping your skin hydrated can also help.

Acne: Hormonal changes can trigger acne breakouts during pregnancy. Avoid using harsh acne medications or products containing retinoids, as they may not be safe for use during pregnancy. Instead, wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser and use oil-free moisturizers. Consult your healthcare provider for safe acne treatment options during pregnancy.

Melasma: Melasma, also known as the "mask of pregnancy," causes dark patches to appear on the face. Protect your skin from the sun by using sunscreen with a high SPF (30 or above) and wearing a wide-brimmed hat. If melasma persists after pregnancy, consult a dermatologist for appropriate treatment options.

Linea nigra: Linea nigra is a dark line that appears vertically on the abdomen during pregnancy. It usually fades on its own after delivery. You can't prevent it, but avoiding excessive sun exposure may help minimize its appearance.

Itchy skin: As the skin stretches, it may become itchy. Avoid hot showers or baths, as they can dry out the skin further. Apply moisturizers regularly, especially after bathing, to keep the skin hydrated. If the itching persists or becomes severe, consult your healthcare provider, as it could be a sign of a more serious condition called cholestasis of pregnancy.

Skin sensitivity: Some women may develop skin sensitivities during pregnancy. Avoid using harsh chemicals or irritating products on your skin. Opt for gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturizers to minimize skin reactions.

Remember to consult your healthcare provider if you have any concerns or questions about specific skin changes during pregnancy. They can provide personalized advice and recommendations based on your individual needs and circumstances.

2023.06.07 10:51 TortoiseTGN I need help designing a character in my head

I've had this story in my head for a while and I have a vivid image of my main character but I'm just awful at drawing characters
Female, Light skinned, her hair is short, similar to Attack on Titan Mikasa in Season 4 but it's very dark blackish brown, she has dark brown eyes, she has a very dead and cold expression ("Kuudere" meaning a character who is calm and collected on the outside and never panics. They show little emotion, and in extreme cases, are completely emotionless, but they may be hiding their true feelings deep down.) kinda like Levi Ackerman or Aki Hayakawa. She has gone through massive trauma in her life. She wears black semi-tight jeans, and a thin black turtle neck shirt tucked into her jeans with a dark gray Eren Yeager-Style jacket over it. Her breasts are quite small (Just a small curve on her chest) she has a scar on her left hand ring finger, Starting at the top of the palm going up to the ring finger ending about half an inch away from the tip. And has black nail polish.
Sorry if I broke the rules of the sub, I've been trying to create this character for a while and I've been struggling :(

2023.06.07 10:42 Carter5ive 50F What to say or ask the Ophthalmologist to help diagnose this mystery condition?

Been trying to get a diagnosis for a condition that's been progressing over the past several years. Been bounced between multiple optometrists and ophthalmologists who can't figure it out. All doctors believe it is refractive but can't say what it is or what to do. The primary optometrist is very confident in his script. Finally been referred to see the most senior one available. It's my last hope, so I'm wondering what I as the patient can say or ask to help the doctor solve this?
Case details below...
Started around age 45 and has progressed through age 50. Had some dry eye symptoms age 45 but cleared up with compress and eye drops. No medications, alcohol, drugs, or medical conditions.
Always had better than 20/20 with eyeglasses until this started. Prescription stable for 30 years, -4.50 OD/OS, with astigmatism (cyl?) values changes a bit from year to year. Presbyopia set in over age 45-50 currently +2.50 add. Pterygiums on the less common side of each iris.
The symptom is that in the center of vision, high contrast things are blurry, and the blurriness seems to be caused by an offset ghost image that is a double vision of whatever detail I'm looking at, but sort of greyed out. It's like there's an 'extra' astigmatism happening. The offset second image can be above/below or to the side or both. The offset can be different for each eye, which apparently means this is monocular (?) and more rare.
The effect is most pronounced with text or lights. So black text on white, white text on black, a point of light in the dark, that sort of thing. Just looking at a regular daylit "scene", the effect isn't bothersome. But anything with text, movie credits, street signs, lights, high contrast items, those are all blurry and bothersome.
A white point of distant light in the dark has an odd symptom - the colors can split out, like a prism. In other words, I see the point of white light, but I also see an offset double image of blue or purple copy of the light.
Eye chart becomes difficult, though I can puzzle it out by trying to isolate the "main" image from the lighter double vision version or deduce was is being blurred.
Strabismus-type testing was done but deemed somewhat irrelevant because of the monocular double vision. However the tester noted that 1 out of 3 pairs of eye "muscles" seemed to be almost not responding because I can't easily focus on close objects.
Diagnostic glasses made of pinholes didn't seem to help, however when I just try looking through a single pinhole at home, it seems like it might (?) be better.
The condition never goes away, but is noticeably worse if I or my eyes are tired.
Hard contact lenses (RGP) were tested to eliminate any issue of eye surface being uneven (or something like that?) with no improvement.
Lots of scans of cornea, retina, etc. Cornea apparently thick and healthy enough. Perhaps the beginning of early cataract. Supposedly not keratoconus.
A special eye trace wave scan (?) was done with 256 laser points which determined some possible minor high order aberration starting but supposedly too slight to explain this.
This specialist is basically the last resort in figuring out this condition and whether I can do anything to stop the progression. So I want to know what to say or ask to help give the doctor the best chance to solve this.

So I built before COVID a PC and because I refused to pay the highly inflated GPU prices, I just bought a cheap/old GPU AMD RX 550, yes you heard me right :) with the intention when prices go down to upgrade it with something more potent.
So my PC is the following:

I was wondering what would you recommend me of changing apart of the GPU, which is obviously outdated.
I was thinking about the following 3 parts:
  1. GPU - I did finish a ML/DL course two years ago and since then I am thinking of playing a bit more with building my own DL/ML models as a hobby projects. I am also thinking of playing a bit more with stable diffusion, etc. and I guess that means that I need to get Nvidia, but honestly, I really despise this company and I am very reluctant of buying their products. On the other hand I am not sure how much time I would have on my hobby projects. I occasionally game, but mostly play older games. I don't care so much about RT either. The problem is that I don't want to spend 1000+ on the GPU alone as it doesn't make any sense. I know for ML/DL the obvious choice is 4090 because of its high VRAM and ludicrous power efficiency but I think that would be an overkill for casual use. 4080 is really bad in terms of price/performance, especially 4090 being so close in price, so not an option. 4070 and 4070Ti would have been perfect candidates if they were with 16Gb VRAM, but Nvidia... So I am really torn here. For the record I live in Europe and here the secondhand GPU market sucks, like delusional people selling used GPUs for 75-80% of the MSRP and it doesn't make sense too. Plus another factor to consider is that here the energy prices are really high, I pay 35 Euro cents (.38$ per KWh), so I want the whole system not to break the bank, considering I would work on this PC 8-10 hours per day.
  2. Monitor - I am thinking about upgrading to the 42 LG C2 but I am worried about I am using my monitor primarily for work and just secondary as entertainment, but I am moving my desk to the bedroom and I was thinking that I can use it as a TV at nights if I want to watch something. I am also using Linux with tiling WM meaning that I can hide the toolbars and when jumping between different workspaces the burn-in risk won't be so high but I haven't decided on this one.
  3. RAM memory, I am just not sure how much of a difference that would make.
  4. SSD, upgrade to 2Tb Samsung 980 Pro or even 990 Pro, since the prices are really low at the moment
  5. PSU - I guess here the deciding factor would be the GPU

The world was gone. Veris paid no attention to the raised voices that echoed around him nor the hunched figure of his father kneeling in front of the men that crowded the tent's opening. None of that mattered.
This thing wasn't his mother. It couldn't be. It was impossible. Its lips were bruised, purple, and bloated. Through its small mouth gap, Veris saw Cracked and smashed teeth daggering into its gums. He almost fell back at the bloody sight. His mother's smile could warm their entire tent in the winter. His mother's skin was soft and flawless, not like the beaten leather draped across a shattered resemblance of a lady. The wrist snapped into the wrong position. Chest caved in. Thick, Raven hair ripped out in patches and dyed in blood. NO. She wasn't this cruel to look at. His mother was the sunshine, the first warm summer breeze that traveled with the smell of sugar plumbs and Perfumed silk. His mother was alive, not this destroyed, dead thing splayed out on his kitchen table.
This was one of the Abara boy’s tricks, an illusion meant to scare Veris into believing something that couldn’t happen—ringing filled Veris's ears. His Tears felt like oil running down his face. He fell from the chair, collapsing on the hardened dirt they had for a floor. How could this happen? She was just going out to get food. How could this happen?
"Tell the boy to rise," shouted a commanding, unfamiliar voice. Veris raised his head and locked gazes with the speaker. A light-skinned Tusta caste soldier dressed in a crisp white uniform adorned with silver bells. Three other soldiers stood beside him, their uniforms tinged with shades of grey denoting their lower rank. The justice of Tylansi had come to Veris's home—sudden and brutal. Veris was ensnared, lost in the man's cold and ruthless eyes. He was like a demon from the scriptures given flesh. Solid shoulders and a great, black beard that swallowed his face. He was tall and muscular, not like a hero, but like the stories of trickster devils that stole wives out of their husbands' beds that Veris’s mother read to him.
"His name is Veris. The almightly himself blessed him with it. Tusta or not, you will not disrespect his god-given dignity." A voice Veris knew well chastised the soldier. It was humbleman Nara, the village's holy leader. The elderly man was wrapped in a sheer gossamer robe interwoven with strings of blue and green. The colors of the Acaska caste. The lowerest within the Tylansi sovereignty. Veris had rarely seen the kind man raise his voice at anyone. Let alone a man of a higher caste.
A gray-clad soldier darted towards Nara with his hand on the strap of his gun holster. " Watch your tongue—Acaska filth. You are in the presence of your lords. Mind yourself under the almighty's watchful eyes." Shouted the man, only inches away from Nara's face. Nara tried to stay firm, but Veris noticed a shaking in the older man's frame.
"We are here for remuneration, not the execution of holy men. Begone Cosia. You are not needed in this matter." The white-clothed soldier looked to the other. "Yes. Sir. I'll secure the area. Some of these Acaska are as sly as snakes," The young man saluted to his leader. Turned, spat in Nara's face, and marched into the village. Nara displayed no emotion, but his shaking lessened.
His father's thin form hobbled to the side of Veris and stared down at him. Veris met his father's amber eyes with twins of his own. He would never have imagined a gaze as lost and helpless could ever belong to his father. His father stabbed his skeletal fingers into Veris's thigh. The boy jerked up at the touch. His dress robes were smeared with dirt and grime. The stitched design of a dragon his mother had sowed onto it fell off as he rosed. Veris raced to catch it but was stopped by his father's firm grip.
"Get up, little bear. We have to welcome the Lords to our home. They are here for judgment." Glaris Al'dan, Veris's father, spoke softly into his ear. Veris sprang forward and wrapped his slender arms around his neck.
After the village famine began, his father rarely spoke to him. "You look them in the eye when they ask you a question. Veris. This is serious. They have to believe your words. okay?" Glaris patted Veris on the back and gently pushed him toward the entrance.
"What about Mama? Are they here to help her?" Veris asked shakily. " Hush now, my brave little bear. Your mother is in the hands of the Almighty. She's singing in his divine choir and spreading your name throughout the heavens. We must protect ourselves now." Glaris spoke. Veris wiped away the new tears that tracked down his face. He wouldn't give the devils a chance to bottle his tears.
Five feet away from the soldiers, they halted. And just as they had practiced before, they did the honorable position of submission when addressing a higher caste. Hands-on knees and head bow to the waist.
" Veris Al'dan, are you aware of the crime brought against you and your family on this almightly day?" The white leader asked. The voice was dead and cold.
" No, my lord surpeme. I was woken up from my sleep by my father's cries. My mother said she was going to the village over to barter for food, " Veris said in a voice laced with pain. He knew
" Your mother was found attempting to steal bread from a Tusta-owned bakery. When confronted, she attacked the owner and ran. The owner's sons caught her. She has paid for her transgression against the law.” The white soldier stated with

He knew

Using Color Theory To Create Meaningful And Memorable Designs .
Utilizing color theory is a highly impactful approach for creating designs that are both meaningful and unforgettable. Colors possess the ability to evoke emotions, communicate messages, and shape the overall perception of a design. By comprehending the principles of color theory, one can effectively tap into the power of colors to develop designs that deeply connect with their intended audience.
Let us see some of the fundamental concepts to keep in mind.

Color Wheel:

https://preview.redd.it/x5fqqyelyj4b1.jpg?width=284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=748a63aa4e6dadc8468a48ddb31324a0a35d5000
The color wheel is an essential resource for comprehending and using colors. It takes the form of a circular diagram that arranges colors according to their connections, providing valuable guidance for developing harmonious color schemes. The color wheel consists of primary, secondary, and tertiary colours, each plays a significant role in color theory.

Colour Harmony:

https://preview.redd.it/59it4h7nyj4b1.jpg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b731276c9545cbe28bbf4ea8c7eacceb30f278c2
Color harmony means choosing colors that look good together in a design. There are different ways to achieve color harmony, like using colors that are opposites on the color wheel, colors that are next to each other, or three colors that are evenly spaced. When colors harmonize, they create balance and make the design look unified and pleasing to the eye. You can also approach a best Graphic design Company in Coimbatore or in your nearby places to get the finest output for your project.

Colour Symbolism:

https://preview.redd.it/96je5vtwyj4b1.jpg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91e6adbb96597383bb872cc7ac056a1cc7e65af8
Colors carry symbolic meanings that are tied to them. For instance, red can symbolize passion or danger, while blue often represents calmness or trust. When selecting colors, it’s crucial to consider the emotions and messages you wish to evoke. However, it’s important to remember that the symbolic associations of colors can differ based on cultural and personal factors. Therefore, it’s vital to take into account the preferences and interpretations of your specific audience.

Colour Contrast:

https://preview.redd.it/0itw1poyyj4b1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7390db17132f133515de5db4a04c98126d58d760
To make designs visually striking and easily readable, contrast plays a vital role. Contrast can be achieved by incorporating differences in hue, value (lightness/darkness), and saturation (intensity) of colors. For instance, using a dark color on a light background enhances legibility. Skillful utilization of contrast can also help direct attention to specific elements or establish focal points within a design.

Color Psychology:

https://preview.redd.it/nva3d3c0zj4b1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48a07f3f5d7fc219c699b2852e9b012b3681d15f
The choice of colors can impact people’s moods and behaviors on a psychological level. Warm colors like red, orange, and yellow are often associated with energy and excitement, while cool colors such as blue, green, and purple tend to evoke feelings of calmness and relaxation. By comprehending the psychological effects of colors, you can align your design with the intended emotional response you wish to evoke.

Cultural Considerations:

https://preview.redd.it/32wj495jzj4b1.png?width=770&format=png&auto=webp&s=b79f064e5bf12ebdd5b6e437c2a5c930c8b92020
The meanings of colors can vary across different cultures. For instance, in Western cultures, white is commonly associated with purity, while in certain Eastern cultures, it symbolizes mourning. If your design targets a global audience, it is essential to conduct research on color symbolism in various cultures. This ensures that your color choices are appropriate and well-received, considering the cultural perspectives and preferences of your audience.

Color Accessibility:

https://preview.redd.it/vob27zjkzj4b1.png?width=770&format=png&auto=webp&s=927a8d4e4724b93bdd9bf13597872d1abb6b2bcc
When designing digitally, it is crucial to prioritize accessibility guidelines, particularly concerning color choices. Pay attention to contrast ratios between text and background colors to ensure readability for individuals with visual impairments. Additionally, it is important to provide alternative methods for conveying information, such as utilizing patterns or labels, to accommodate individuals with color blindness. By considering these factors, you can create designs that are inclusive and accessible to a wider range of users.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, color theory holds immense potential in shaping the significance and impact of designs. Designers who grasp and apply the principles of color theory can craft harmonious color palettes, evoke specific emotions and messages, and establish visual contrast to guide viewers attention. It is essential to consider the cultural associations and individual interpretations of colors to ensure effective communication with the intended audience.

Chapter 1: Wings of Doubt

The swirling mists of the Warp slowly receded as Ciaphas Cain, Commissar of the Imperium, opened his eyes. The last thing he remembered was the deafening explosion aboard the Chaos battleship that had threatened to consume him. But instead of being cast into the embrace of oblivion, he found himself in a vast chamber of ethereal light.

Gone were his worn-out uniform and battered laspistol. Instead, he wore ornate golden armor that radiated a divine aura, its intricate details embellished with celestial motifs. He could feel the weight of a pair of immense wings on his back, their feathers shimmering with an otherworldly glow. As he surveyed his surroundings, Ciaphas realized he stood in the presence of a magnificent being—a massive figure seated upon a golden throne.

Ciaphas's breath caught in his throat as he gazed upon the enigmatic figure. Though the being was silent, an overwhelming sense of power and purpose emanated from it. He knelt instinctively, overwhelmed by the palpable force that seemed to fill the chamber.

A surge of emotions enveloped Ciaphas, an intangible connection that conveyed a mixture of approval, guidance, and unspoken purpose. But as his eyes met the celestial figure's, doubts and fear surged within him. The familiar voice of self-doubt whispered in his mind, reminding him of his true nature—a coward masquerading as a hero.

"How did I end up here?" Ciaphas thought, his mind racing with apprehension. "I've spent my entire career avoiding danger, always seeking the easiest way out. How can I, a false hero, possibly fulfill this monumental task?"

His inner monologue waged a relentless battle against the call to rise and accept his new destiny. He feared exposure, the revelation that his cowardice would be laid bare before the Imperium and the God-Emperor himself. The weight of the golden armor and the majesty of the wings felt like burdens upon his shoulders, symbols of a responsibility he doubted he could shoulder.

He questioned his worthiness, his ability to inspire others when his own heart trembled with fear. How could he rally the weak when he doubted his own strength? How could he strike fear into the hearts of enemies when he himself was a victim of his own fears?

Ciaphas's doubts multiplied, threatening to engulf him in a sea of anxiety. But even as the tumultuous thoughts churned within him, he couldn't deny the flickering ember of duty that remained. The image of those suffering under the weight of darkness, yearning for a glimmer of hope, pulled at his soul.

In the depths of his inner turmoil, he realized that perhaps his flaws were precisely what made him suitable for this mission. Perhaps it was his own experiences with fear and self-preservation that allowed him to understand the struggles of others. The false hero had survived countless battles, not through unwavering courage, but through cunning and calculated retreats. And maybe, just maybe, those experiences could ignite a spark of resilience within those who had lost hope.

With a deep breath, Ciaphas steeled himself against the doubts that threatened to paralyze him. He had always been a master of deception, skilled at projecting an image of bravery in the face of danger. If he could deceive countless soldiers and citizens, he could deceive even himself.

Embracing the unknown future, he rose from his kneeling position. The weight of the golden armor and the unfurled wings served as constant reminders of his role as the angel of the Imperium. But beneath the majestic facade, the doubts and fears still lingered, refusing to be silenced.

As he took the first steps towards fulfilling his new purpose, his inner monologue persisted, whispering tales of his true nature and the impending exposure of his cowardice. But Ciaphas chose to confront those doubts head-on, accepting them as a part of himself.

In the face of danger and uncertainty, he would strive to inspire others. He would wage a secret battle within, determined to overcome his own fears while shielding them from the eyes of those who looked to him for guidance. The false hero, now an angel of the Imperium, would navigate the treacherous path before him, forever haunted by the possibility of being unmasked.

And in doing so, he would forge a new legacy—one that transcended his own limitations and ignited hope in the hearts of those who needed it most.
Chapter 2: The Lurking Shadows

As Ciaphas Cain contemplated his newfound role as the angel of the Imperium, a familiar figure emerged from the ethereal light. It was Jurgen, his loyal aide, still alive and steadfast by his side. Clad in his ragged uniform, melta-gun in hand, Jurgen's presence offered a glimmer of familiarity amidst the overwhelming uncertainties that surrounded them.

"Jurgen!" Ciaphas exclaimed, a mixture of relief and surprise flooding his features. "I thought I had lost you."

Jurgen offered a lopsided grin, his eyes twinkling with the mirth of an old friend. "Thought you could get rid of me that easily, sir? Not a chance."

Ciaphas couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude for Jurgen's unwavering loyalty. Despite the chaos and mysticism of their current situation, Jurgen's grounded presence provided a semblance of normalcy.

"We have a mission, Jurgen," Ciaphas began, his voice laden with determination. "We are to journey into the Eye of Terror, the heart of darkness itself, to face the treacherous Fulgrim, the first heretic. It will be a battle like no other, filled with unimaginable peril and ancient evils."

Jurgen's grin widened, revealing a glint of excitement. "Sounds like a right proper adventure, sir. Count me in."

Together, Ciaphas and Jurgen ventured into the inky abyss that lay before them, the Eye of Terror swallowing them whole. They traversed through a twisted realm of shifting shadows and malevolent energies, their every step fraught with uncertainty. The air crackled with an otherworldly malevolence, and the darkness seemed to whisper secrets that threatened to drive them mad.

As they pressed forward, guided by a sense of purpose and the distant echoes of Fulgrim's presence, the fabric of reality distorted around them. Eldritch abominations, spawned from the darkest recesses of the Warp, clawed at their sanity, testing their resolve. But Jurgen's melta-gun blazed with righteous fury, disintegrating the monstrosities that dared stand in their way.

Time lost all meaning as they delved deeper into the heart of the chaotic realm. Each encounter with the denizens of the Warp pushed them to their limits, the struggle between the divine presence within Ciaphas and the lingering doubts within his soul growing more intense with each passing moment. But Jurgen's unyielding faith in his commander acted as an anchor, grounding Ciaphas amidst the storm of uncertainty.

Finally, they reached the inner sanctum of Fulgrim's lair—a chamber shrouded in a sickly haze, where the air reeked of corruption and depravity. The fallen Primarch, once a paragon of martial prowess, now stood before them, his features twisted and distorted by the foul taint of Chaos. His eyes gleamed with malicious glee as he regarded the unlikely duo that dared challenge him.

"Fulgrim," Ciaphas declared, his voice steady despite the tremors of doubt that threatened to consume him. "Your heresy ends here."

Fulgrim's laughter echoed through the chamber, a cacophony of derision and mockery. "Ah, the false hero and his loyal lackey. How quaint. Do you truly believe you can stand against me?"

The room seemed to tilt, reality warping under the weight of Fulgrim's corrupted presence. But Ciaphas, bolstered by Jurgen's unflinching support, pressed on. He drew upon the divine power that coursed through his veins, unleashing a righteous fury against the fallen Primarch.

A battle of mythic proportions erupted, with Ciaphas and Fulgrim clashing in a dance of blades and raw power. The chamber crackled with energy as their weapons met, each strike shaking the very foundations of the Warp. Shadows writhed and twisted, merging with the chaos of the battlefield as ancient curses and whispered incantations swirled through the air.

Through it all, Jurgen stood by Ciaphas's side, his melta-gun blazing with righteous fire. His presence acted as a shield against the horrors that sought to unravel their resolve. The mystic energies that danced around them seemed to respond to Jurgen's unwavering faith, adding an element of divine protection to their cause.

The battle raged on, the clash of wills and steel reverberating through the abyss. Though doubts gnawed at Ciaphas's core, threatening to undermine his every move, he pressed forward, drawing strength from the unyielding support of his loyal aide.

In the end, it was a combination of Ciaphas's newfound celestial powers, Jurgen's steadfastness, and a touch of cunning that led to Fulgrim's defeat. The fallen Primarch crumbled before them, consumed by the forces he had once embraced.

As the echoes of the battle subsided, Ciaphas couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and lingering doubts. He had emerged victorious, fulfilling his divine mission, yet the shadows of his own insecurities continued to haunt him. He wondered if his true nature—a coward masquerading as a hero—would ever be laid bare.

But for now, he stood as the angel of the Imperium, a symbol of hope and resilience against the encroaching darkness. With Jurgen by his side, they would continue their journey, facing new trials and horrors, and perhaps one day finding the redemption they both sought amidst the labyrinthine realms of the Warp.
Chapter 3: The Illusion Unveiled

In the aftermath of their supposed victory over Fulgrim, a disquieting truth began to unravel around Ciaphas Cain and Jurgen. What they had believed to be their noble quest to defeat the heretic Primarch was, in fact, a cruel deception—a fabrication meticulously crafted by an ancient Necron Lord who held them captive within a sprawling tomb world.

As the haze of the simulated battle dissolved, the illusions that had surrounded them fell away, revealing the cold, metallic walls of their prison. Ciaphas and Jurgen found themselves confined within eerie, cocoon-like structures—creches designed to keep them in stasis while their minds were immersed in the nefarious virtual realm created by their captor.

Grim realization settled over them, intertwining with the lingering doubts that had plagued Ciaphas throughout their journey. The false hero had unwittingly played into the hands of a being far more sinister than Fulgrim himself. The very essence of their triumph had been a charade—a cruel manipulation of their hopes and desires.

But as their eyes adjusted to the harsh lighting of their prison, a hollow voice echoed through the chamber. It emanated from an unseen source, the ancient Necron Lord who had orchestrated their torment.

"Welcome, false heroes, to the heart of my domain," the voice reverberated, laced with a sinister undertone. "You have served your purpose well, unknowing puppets in my grand scheme."

Ciaphas's heart sank, the weight of his own inadequacies amplified by the cruel machinations of their captor. How had he been so blind? How had he allowed himself to be manipulated into playing the part of a hero when he had always been a reluctant coward?

The voice continued, its tone dripping with ancient malice. "You see, I sought to exploit your greatest weaknesses—the doubts that gnawed at your very souls. The false hero, plagued by self-doubt, and his loyal aide, burdened with unwavering faith. Such contradictions make for a tantalizing tapestry of despair."

Ciaphas and Jurgen exchanged somber glances, their spirits crushed by the revelation. Their struggles, their victories, all nothing more than a meticulously crafted illusion. The Necron Lord had seized upon their insecurities, manipulating their hopes and fears to further his own twisted agenda.

"And now, as the final act of my grand performance," the voice hissed, its words echoing within the chamber, "I shall leave you with the knowledge of your own futility. You are trapped within the confines of my tomb world, destined to live out your days in this simulated prison, forever ensnared by your own self-doubt."

The room fell into an eerie silence, save for the distant hum of machinery. Ciaphas's mind raced, desperately searching for a way to escape this nightmarish predicament. But the realization of their captivity weighed heavily upon him—every option seemed futile, every glimmer of hope a mere illusion.

In a final act of cruel mockery, the Necron Lord delivered a monologue to an empty room, its words directed at no one but the heroes ensnared within the simulation creches. His voice dripped with malevolence, a symphony of disdain for the beings he held captive.

"Know this, false heroes, you shall forever dwell in the shadows of your own failures. Your cowardice and unwavering faith, forever etched upon the annals of this tomb world," the voice intoned, relishing in their despair. "And as for me, I shall bask in the triumph of your defeat, reveling in the knowledge that even the falsest of heroes can be broken."

With those chilling words, the voice of the Necron Lord faded into nothingness, leaving Ciaphas and Jurgen alone in their simulated prison, adrift in a sea of despair. The weight of their captivity pressed upon them, their hopes shattered, their struggles rendered meaningless.

But amidst the darkness, a flicker of defiance stirred within Ciaphas's heart. A whisper of resilience urged him to confront his fears, to defy the fate that had been thrust upon them. The false hero, still burdened by doubt, resolved to forge a new path—one that would defy the expectations of the Necron Lord and reclaim their stolen destinies.

With Jurgen by his side, Ciaphas steeled himself for the arduous journey ahead. They would defy the odds, fight against the despair that threatened to consume them, and seek a way to escape the clutches of the ancient Necron Lord.

For even in the depths of their darkest hour, the spirit of heroism refused to be extinguished.

2023.06.07 09:34 AdministrationOk8223 How I went mute

I work at a big third party chemical company that produces stuff like nail polish remover, paint thinner, ect. One day a new company signed with us and was making their own “No smell” nail polish remover. They had lavender, lemon, cucumber, strawberry, and orange scented polish remover. I don’t know why but the orange one just smelled too good and I would catch myself sniffing it every time I walked past the vat. This day after hours when everyone left for home and all the vat were closed I went back and opened the orange one. God it smelled so good, I couldn’t get enough. I just stood there smelling it getting a little head high for what seemed like 2 min, but in real time it was 20 minutes. 20 minutes with my nose deep in the vat smelling this orange chemical. As soon as I seen he time I got out of there fast. On the drive home my throat felt a little itchy but I played it off as the crust winter air. I got home and went sound asleep with no problem, the nightmare began as soon as I opened my eyes. It felt like my throat was on fire, like a million fire ants were biting my esophagus. Trying to brush my teeth to sooth the pain but it made it worse. Nothing was helping so I had no choice but to go to the hospital. I barged into the emergency room clutching my throat in agony. The nurse asked me what’s the problem and when I tried to speak nothing came out but a painful squeak. The chilling realization hit me that I couldn’t speak, not even whisper. The nude checked my mouth and from the back of my throat was nothing but disgusting red and purple burns and dried blood. They threw me on a bed and I went straight to the OR. When I woke up a whole day had pasted without me even noticing. I was in surgery for 9 hours from chemical burns all the way from my nasal cavity down to the middle of my esophagus. Once again I tried to speak but nothing, not even a squeak this time. The doctor soon came in and told me due to me inhaling the chemicals for so long I permanently damaged my nose and throat resulting not able to smell correctly for a while and completely damaging my vocal cords. To sum it up he told me I was never going to speak again. It’s been 4 years that I’ve been mute now and I would say it gets better. My insurance was able to get me a speaking device that I type and I reads out loud what im typing. Not a day goes by I wish I didn’t do something so stupid but it’s just life’s funny way of saying you live and learn. Even if your lesson is losing your voice forever.

"Shortly after I got started in this, we got involved with Los Alamos [National Laboratory] oratory] on a project called—well, we were building a system called a Z system, and this was designed to—this was a pre-Vela [Uniform] activity and it was designed to look at air fluorescence of a nuclear burst out of space, out in the outer atmosphere. The X-rays would impinge on the atmosphere and light it up at certain precise wavelengths. So we built this system to look at that. And it was deployed around the world. (pg 2)
Dominic was the Pacific test program and, was kind of a period where we tested, I guess it was over 100 tests, every day almost. And I was supporting a branch of the Air Force at the time. And we had a KC-135 that was filled with instrumentation, cameras, antennas. We looked at electromagnetic pulses and photographed things. And we flew on the airplane. Whenever there was a test, we would fly down to Christmas Island or wherever the test was, collect data, and fly back. Lived in Oahu, so we worked out of Hickam Air Force Base [Hawaii] for months and months.
In July of ‘62, I think it was ‘62, [07/09/1962] we started the high-altitude series, which the first test was Starfish. Starfish was a large-yield device, 400 miles up or something. It’s in the book someplace. [DOE/NV—209 Rev 15 December 2000]
But anyway that lit up the whole sky. You could see that the sky turned green from Hawaii to Samoa. It was just spectacular. I had a copy of Life Magazine that had that on the cover and I can’t find it.
It would be in ‘62; ‘62 issue of Life. But after that particular test, there was concerns about what the Russians were doing, and the plane that I was supporting went to Russia. I stayed in Hawaii and took a trailer of equipment, and the government rented a freighter, a Portuguese freighter called Private Frank J. Petracka. My trailer was strapped to one of the holds on this freighter and we went down to Johnson Island, and I spent forty-six days anchored off Johnson Island looking at the rest of the high-altitude series plus some atmospheric shots. The shots down there, the famous one was Bluegill because it took them three tries to actually get that successfully fired. The first one blew up on the pad. The second one blew up shortly after launch, so there were parts of rocket motors and things falling down. And the third test was successful. (pg. 4)
(Zavattaro is mistaken here - it was the 4th test of the Bluegill device that was successful).
But after Dominic was over, I became more involved with Los Alamos. The first thing that happened after the test series was over was coming up with a readiness program for resuming testing in the Pacific, and that was called the Future Off-Continent Program, FOC. And I worked on that until the program was cancelled. Basically, it was a clause in one of the safeguards, Safeguard C, that said we had to be prepared to promptly resume atmospheric testing in the Pacific. So they came up with a concept for that exercise. The concept was that to so that to solve some of the logistics problems of the past test series—because weather in the Pacific is really spotty. You never know where you can see things. So the concept was they would have a flying experiment. They would have the drop plane fly and they would have an array of airplanes follow it and they would find some nice clear place in the Pacific and fire the test. So this was the concept, and to support that, each of the labs had designed an aircraft for experimentation. Sandia had their own, [Lawrence] Livermore [National Laboratory] had their own, and Los Alamos had their own. So they modified these three aircraft, which were called NC-135s, which were refuelable KC-135s, at Fort Worth [Texas]. General Dynamics modified the planes. And I supported—we would go down and we designed the camera mounts and a lot of the stuff that went on the air—a lot of the supporting infrastructure, cameras and things, that went on the airplanes. And then after they completed them, they moved them to Kirtland Air Force Base [New Mexico]; Holmes and Narver designed an array of pad, three pads, for the aircraft, and they were stationed down there. And we had an array of trailers and we staffed it with people from Boston. The first test of this system was called Crosscheck, and we had an experiment. We went out to the Pacific and checked out with a flare and cameras and the whole nine yards to see if everything worked. (pg 5)
What was going on in Boston, supporting Los Alamos, was looking at the high altitude data. We were digitizing all the thousands of frames of data that we had from the highaltitude tests with very sophisticated digitizing equipment at the time. And the lab felt that the arrangement was too costly to have this interface, so they wanted us to move our resources that supported them to Los Alamos, and that’s when we basically opened the office there. I moved to Los Alamos in ’70 to set up an engineering department; and I moved about, I think it was thirteen or fourteen people that worked for me from Boston to Los Alamos."
Now, which division or group were you supporting at Los Alamos?
This was J-10.
J-10 was the field division, the real test division, and at that time that was the biggest, the key group. It was headed up by a guy named Herman Hoerlin who was a quite famous scientist from Germany, and he was a very interesting guy. (pg 9)
And who was the head of J-Division then?
It went through a few people. Herman Hoerlin, after Herman left, God, I can’t— A whole bunch of people. Don [Donald M.] Kerr was there for a while. Hard to remember all these things. It’s been so many years. (pg.11).

Interview with James Arnold Hodges (EG&G) January 17 2005 https://special.library.unlv.edu/ark%3A/62930/d16m33f80
"Well, not originally. Actually, I went into that pretty quick, too, into the taking pictures. I worked with Harry Smith who had some cameras called, oh, well, what were those called? We were up at Building 400 and we had rotor cameras. They had a rotor in them that turned 4,000 rps [rotations per second] and they would—oh, streak cameras, that’s what they were called. When the bomb went off, they made a streak with time and that showed you, since you knew what the speed of the rotor was and how long the film was, it showed you how big the fireball got. They used that for measurements on the yield, yield measurements. And I did that quite a while. When I wasn’t doing the streak camera measurements, I was working in the office in the other photo camera stations. We had photo stations everywhere sitting out there with cameras in them, all types of cameras, all speeds from Rapatronic cameras that took a picture in four billionths of a second to so-called cloud cameras that took a picture every few seconds and traced the cloud as it was going up. (pg. 4)
Some of the pictures that we took are still classified. One of them was taken by a Rapatronic camera. I had a streak camera with a sixteen-foot telescope on it and it looked right into the cab of the tower and you could see the case of the bomb. We have a picture of a crack appearing in the case as it started to blow up. That picture’s still classified. And then I took one at Johnston Island from the deck of the Boxer, that’s an old aircraft carrier with an old wood deck, it was an old one. And they classified the picture because it was some clouds which had, of course, the aerial bomb went off way up in the atmosphere and there was a cloud shaped like an angel, so they said, Oh, we don’t dare publish that picture. People will say we’re punching a hole in the sky and all the air’s going to run out and everything else. And so they classified that picture, and as far as I know, it’s still classified. I don’t think it was ever released. (pg.6)
I was there for the so-called high altitude sun tests. We took pictures from a high altitude airplane.
So you took pictures from the plane.
Yes. Of the sun. I don’t remember just why.
And did you take those, or again did you have equipment set up to do that?
We had equipment set up to do it. I shot some stills from Johnston Island, from the deck of the carrier, I shot some of those stills. That’s in fact the one where the angel was, I shot that one. And like I say, that one’s hid somewhere far, far down in the—
So none of your stuff ever went out to the media or the press.
No.
This was just all for in-house EG&G?
Yeah. I guess since then they released some of the shots. (pg.25)

Interview with Vernon Henry Jones (EG&G) October 4, 2005 https://special.library.unlv.edu/ark%3A/62930/d1q23rb6p
"Right. Now physically what happened with the film? Because I have no idea. The cameras are there. You remove the cameras. How does that work?
Cameras, no. We would remove the film only from all of them. Some of them, you just take the film reel out of them and we had regular film-carrying cases that we would put the film in. Some of them had film magazines on top of them. Some of them were quite large. Like the Fastax camera had a thousand-foot roll of 35-millimeter film on top of it. The Fastax, the name of the camera, it was a real high-speed camera, and it would go through that whole thousand feet of film in one and a half seconds.
No way!
Oh, yes! You should hear that camera when it ran. It was like, stand back!
In what sense?
Noisy! The noise would scare you, hearing that thing wind up the way it did. That camera had a drive motor on the film feed and the take-up spool. That’s how fast that turkey went. So there was probably an average, I don’t know, six to eight cameras in each station. Some were small; some were there for just cloud cover, to see which way the cloud went after the shot. Of course they were real slow-speed cameras. And the others, we had the Mitchell that generally ran at a hundred frames per second. I don’t know offhand what they were really after, but it was one of the cameras, and various other ones in there. We had some high-speed Eastman cameras, slowspeed Triads, and others, I don’t recall their names. (pg.11)
Photo. Setting up field photo. Now there were other people helping me some at times, but for the most part I did the majority of that by myself. A lot of the cameras were mounted on a tripod, small cameras. The camera was called by letters GSAP, which stood for Gunsight Aerial Photography-type camera. It’s a little bitty thing, run on 24 volts, had a fifty-foot roll of 16-millimeter film in them. These were all over the place, taking pictures of all these different things (pg. 52)

Interview with Wayne Albert Violette (EG&G) January 12, 2005
https://special.library.unlv.edu/ark%3A/62930/d1h12vk31
"This was actually done on film. When the bomb would go off, there would be oscilloscope traces recorded and it would record like the alpha growth rate of the bomb. The first few thousandths of a millionth or nanoseconds of the bomb going off is what the critical information was because after that it was all over.
And is that what you guys looked at?
Yes, the first few nanoseconds. That’s where they would get most of their information as far as the effectiveness of the bomb and the efficiency of it, and I’m not sure what the physicists were really looking at, but the alpha growth rate was primarily what we were looking at, right at the very beginning. (pg.10)
I was also sent for two or three weeks to Albuquerque to work on some of the—I think KC-135s, they’re 707s, I believe—was the civilian name for the planes. We went back and we worked on those for putting equipment in them; they were preparing if they went to atmospheric testing again. These had a big window on one side and the equipment was set to where they could take pictures out of it. I had my particular little thing to do, installing certain equipment, so I wasn’t privy to a lot of the details of what they were doing. But that was very interesting, too, to go back there and just be part of it. Sandia built the bombs, and Sandia Labs was back there. (pg.13).
We didn’t process—we came up with negatives. They would look at the negative. It was actually a negative image. It looked like a dark image on a light background, rather than the white image on the dark background. When we would set the equipment up, we would have to get them focused exactly. Very critical on focus and getting the right intensity so they would be the best image possible. We used a lot of Polaroid film doing that. We’d go through boxes and boxes of Polaroid film on the setup of it. The actual photo, though, was then done on an actual negative. So I know Polaroid must’ve made a lot of money off the test site because we used a lot of that, and yellow tape." (pg.15)
Military v Civilian control
It also appears that there were problems within the U.S. Government bureaucracy regarding the military maintaining control over nuclear weapons. This is rectified somehow by the wording in the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, and is explained here by the Defence Special Weapons Agency's Associate Dean Byron L. Ristvet.
Interview with Byron Leo Ristvet, (DSWA) April 17, 2006 https://special.library.unlv.edu/ark%3A/62930/d1qf8jw7j
"So the British never had that civilian control quandary that we did. And let me just tell you bluntly, when Truman wanted the Atomic Energy Commission created and in civilian control because he didn’t trust the military, guess who was his strongest supporter? George C. Marshall. Leslie Groves. They both testified secretly at the time that they did not want the production of weapons under the services. They wanted the control of special nuclear material, the design, and the production to remain totally a civilian enterprise.
And what was, their reasoning there again? Was it the knowledge?
No, their reasoning was, is they just felt that the military shouldn’t be in control of such awesome power, that the Constitution had basically said civilians should be in power, and so this way it made it very positive. I think had the Goldwater-Nichols Act been in place where the secretary of war and the secretary of the Navy had control over the CNO and over the chief of staff of the Army who at that time reported directly to the president. It would’ve been different. But the Defense Department really didn’t gain the civilian control power until ’85.
Well, you know, there were changes, and the biggest change to the Atomic Energy Act was ’54, when the military was allowed to have custody of special nuclear material. Prior to that it was always under the control of the AEC, and that was because we were going to these sealed designs, and even where the what’s called the capsule ball assembly was not inserted into the high explosive, it was still carried on the weapon; it was integral to the weapon and you couldn’t manually insert it in flight, it was automatically inserted in flight, and as a result, you had to grant the custody—plus the response times were getting less and less and less. You know, the late forties, three days. By the time you were in ’54, you were getting down to three-or-four-hour kind of response times, about half the time it takes to fly over the poles. By the time you were in the late fifties, you had missiles. Of course we didn’t know the missile gap was sort of nonexistent, but in ’58 the response time was getting down to thirty minutes. And by the time you were in the ’66-’67 time frame, when the Russians had their first fleet ballistic submarines, you were now down to fifteen-minute response time. That’s why the Cuban missile crisis in ’62 was such a huge thing, because now you were looking at seven-or-eight-minute response times. (pg.32)
This is of interest here because according to the Majestic Documents, it was claimed by Allen Dulles that these changes to the Atomic Energy Act 1954 allowed him exclude President John F. Kennedy from knowing the details of the MJ-12 program:

Dulles response to President Kennedy

It would be interesting to know if Pharis Williams and Oke Shannon had any involvement with the J-10 group at Los Alamos or have knowledge of the Bluegill Triple Prime anomaly.
For the past five years, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) weapon physicist Greg Spriggs and a crack team of film experts, archivists and software developers have been on a mission to hunt down, scan, reanalyze and declassify film recordings of the U.S. atmospheric nuclear tests. In this video, Lab science communicator Maren Hunsberger interviews Greg Spriggs to answer some of the most frequently asked questions we've received about the test films since sharing them on YouTube.

Boomerang Monkey
This part has to be included along with the Lych Soul rework with Paragons which is finally making it in this update after necessary delays. As Boomerang Paragon’s knockback hits so many times so quickly, we need to make it more reasonable when applied to targets that aren’t immediately destroyed.
Bomb Shooter
MOAB Assassin fills a useful role of a pure long cooldown ‘single target assassination’ in the game, but when compared to something like First Strike it feels a little lacking that it is unable to carry damage through MOAB Layers
Tack Shooter
Blade Shooter has always struggled to find much value without MK or as a step to Maelstrom, so to give it build value on its own we feel like this should be a part of the base value on the upgrade.
Ice Monkey
Lowest tiers of ice monkey are far too effective for their cost against ceramics, with this scaling well all the way to round 100, we feel like ice duration against ceramics needs to be reduced to counter this but for now this reduction will only apply until T3.
Glue Gunner
The Bloon Solver’s rework has been very popular, however, we’d like to have a better lead up into the new mechanics by introducing this earlier at the tier 4 now.
Sniper Monkey
This will allow Cripple MOAB to take out regular MOAB layers in one shot until round 100; for such a slow attacking single target tower we feel this will help top path flex, even if mostly for show.
Monkey Buccaneer
Reworking Grape Shot crosspathing as it gains far too much crosspath value by T2 but then is lacking in purpose at higher tiers, double shot will only work as one extra grape however Destroyer will now apply its full attack rate buff to the grapes and Flagship will equip aspects of Grape Shot on the mini planes.
Monkey Ace
Spectre is shifting a little of the ceramic bonus around into basic all damage at the cost of reduced pierce, which should make up for lack of single target damage while also making the pierce crosspath more necessary when being used for cleanup focus.
Heli Pilot
Even with the map-range advantage, rotors are weak compared to any other constant AoE circle like this. Chinook feels like it’s near a place we are happy with now, however we want another tiny nudge on cost while keeping cash generation value the same. Pushing some higher values on the last Comanche Commander changes as the missile attack is effectively such a small portion of the tower’s total damage late game.
Mortar Monkey
As the Rapid Reload crosspath has actually fallen behind in value compared to Burny Stuff for top path Mortars we want to try a slight stun duration increase as this buffs the base path with a larger benefit to Rapid Reload mortars as a stalling option. Mortar consistency is lacking at x3x making it tough to spend on even though x4x is fairly good, so some of the T4 rate is shifting down to help out with this. As the camo property has grown quite weak and currently Signal Flare is considered the best decamo tool, we want to push back slightly on its cost and by reducing the blast radius of the decamo area while emphasizing crosspathing for effectiveness there.
Super Monkey
As Engineer sentries do this already, newly spawned Mini Avatars from temples will now by default match the target priority of the temple.
Ninja Monkey
We’re changing the Ninja Monkey Paragon’s focus as a fighter against camo, as we feel like a greater strength and tactical value against camo will be the full reveal of all camos rather than all camo removal.
Alchemist
Alchemist Transforming Tonic is in a weird spot with the transformation unable to attack through walls when the base alchemist is able to. Also with this, including a QoL fix for the T5 that currently prevents transformed towers from functioning with target priority.
Druid
While the tornado doesn't do anything to MOABs, it still spends itself on them which wastes a relatively long cooldown, so addressing this flaw. Avatar of wrath doubles the base attack speed before any scaling is applied, but this hasn’t ever applied to the 205 Lightning, so taking care of that as well. Housekeeping - even deep in the forest, it does actually make life better.
Spike Factory
We’ve heard the feedback, so Spiked Mines get a tweak to get more mines exploding but with less pierce on each, to overall increase quality of life in more frequent use but less wasted pierce. This will help out with some of the problems it has scaling into late game super ceramics.
Monkey Village
A minor QoL for cheap Monkeyopolis creation, we included a small base amount of cash production to the generation formula.
Engineer
The 005 crosspath fix in the last update left XXXL Trap slower than previously even if crosspathed to 205, so we are increasing that base 005 slightly to match up the 205 crosspath again so that it isn’t any slower than before.
Beast Handler
As our newest tower to be added to BTD6, we went over feedback for every path and made a large number of adjustments addressing a variety of points.
Gwendolin
Removing the stacking aspect of Gwendolin’s burn damage over time, but increasing the damage as she levels up so that it actually scales up in power now.
Adora
While they are complicated individuals, Adora can now fully appreciate the sacrifice of the newest Monkeys in the struggle against the Bloons.
Admiral Brickell
We aren’t happy with strats that start looking like exploits with frequent sell-replace loops.
Psi
Psi’s stalling out of the end of round is an odd mix of useful / annoying / out of control, so we are for now capping this to a 3 seconds of overtime stalling. Psi’s Psychic Blast ability also has weirdly low pierce for a long cooldown ability with no damage, we are increasing the base pierce greatly but it no longer increases in pierce at Lv7 since the extra pulse brings more pierce anyway.
Event / Boss / Relic / Knowledge
Looking Forward
Five months of 2023 done and dusted, which feels to us like it has zoomed by, perhaps because the Auckland office where the BTD6 team is based has only just reopened after the severe flooding at the end of January. All of Update 36 and the majority of Update 37 were completed while again working from home, but we’re very excited to have the office repairs done, the flood wall almost finished, and the ability to work shoulder to shoulder again on fun new things for the monkeyverse! Here’s the latest gaze into the crystal ball:
