2023.03.22 04:10 InfernoAA Blitz XVII ~ "DAMN, I'M THIRSTY. I WANT A BEER. WHAT ABOUT YOU? YOU WANT A BEER?" Results
STEEZ, he’s a hothead. Last week in Quebec some Canadian starts talking smack and STEEZ he just snapped. Beat him to death. Turns out that Canadian is a somebody and now STEEZ, he’s into the Canadians for a million.
Non-Title: FBE World Heavyweight Champion Inferno vs Simon Brown With the lovely Simon Brown stepping back into the ring, the Junior Division original took it to the reigning FBE World Heavyweight Champion in a match they’ve long awaited since 2020, and it was every bit worth the wait for both men, nothing short of uber competitive in their conquests to leave victorious. Inferno dictated the pace here between the two, the more experienced under this ruleset, but Brown was just as natural in keeping up, putting on a Pure Rules performance many second-timers would be envious of. Feet on the acceleration from start to finish, the action only grew hotter with each passing second until they hit their top speeds, the smell of burning rubber accompanying Baba Blitz notching his career’s 70th win, remaining in top form as Unbreakable V continues to near!
Inferno (12) def. Simon Brown (0)
D Block: James Scott [0] vs Erick Koeman [0] With the first two points of D Block in play, this was a true battle of hearts, once crowd favourite James Scott steadying his arrow at the apple sitting on the head of one of Blitz’s more popular recent additions, Erick Koeman. The Purest Protagonist wrestling an absolute banger in his in-ring return last week, it was clear he hadn’t missed a step in all those months, but with stakes to this one, he knew he couldn’t risk going 15 minutes again. Unlucky for him, the Flying Dutchman knew he’d need to drag his Aussie foe into deep waters if he wants a chance at drowning him, bringing exactly the opposite to Scott’s approach, trying to tire him out given the PROVINCE member’s more consistent endurance from being around lately. Though James would continue to run ahead of Erick by mere hair lengths, Koeman stayed on his tail without quit, falling just short of the finish line, Scott paring it first to take the points home!
James Scott [2] (7) def. Erick Koeman [0] (6)
B Block: Joey Joey Siwa [0] vs Hunter Maguire [0] In true Past vs Present dream encounter style, OG Junior Division graduate Joey Joey Siwa faced off against its latest graduate, Hunter Maguire, in a battle of two twisted fellows upstairs (though Siwa having his screws somewhat knocked back into place after his Moore arc). JJS’s first tournament appearance in 3 years, a standout in the first Gedo Classic, the odds weren’t in his favour when paired against the latest Gedo Classic’s runner-up, yet he still shot out the cannon swinging, initially overwhelming the Death to Juniors member in an all Siwa start to the match, short and snappy offence working in his favour. As the pace gradually began to slow though, Maguire worked inversely proportionally, picking up his own game, draining the hope from the ex-Superbubbly bit by bit. Another encounter so close you could only thread a finger through it, Hunter’s comeback worked favourably, securing him his first win as a Heavyweight!
Hunter Maguire [2] (7) def. Joey Joey Siwa [0] (5)
Desmond Caid vs Karma When teacher and student met for the very first time, the world stood still, knowing it’d bear witness to something special. In a love letter of sorts to Magnum Opus, Desmond Caid and Karma turned back the clocks to their famed alliance of the year prior, the creatures of the darkness stepping under the Maestro’s spotlight to let their undoubted chemistry be illuminated. And much like Logan vs Corey weeks prior at New Beginning V, these two knew each other like the back of their hand, very evenly matched as time constraints pressured them into throwing down their best hits in rapid succession so as to not fall behind. Punctuated by constant references to old tandem moves now stripped down to solo acts, Karma certainly had the man who gave him a helping hand impressed throughout this bout, but at the end of the day, it was the teacher that held close to his chest his hidden trump card of wisdom, dealing his biggest and final lesson here to put Karma away!
Desmond Caid (7) def. Karma (6)
D Block: Joshua Epps [0] vs Kentaro Sakamoto [0] Two forces of nature here on Blitz, it was the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object when Joshua Epps and Kentaro Sakamoto stood toe-to-toe. Two fighters in every sense of the word, God’s Greatest Athlete summoning all the blood, sweat and tears poured into Hodges’ Gymnasium, and El Cráneo cocking and loading his guns for hands, a highly abrasive showdown had the crowd on the edge of their seats, Epps and Sakamoto pulling no punches. Every point mattering, it reflected in both men’s unyielding persistence here to not give the other a single inch, knowing just how easily that can turn into the full yard, rather keeping one another in tight quarters, holding strong the proverbial clinch on the competition. Though Kentaro shone, his barrel was empty when he needed it most, Epps firing the final bullet through his skull instead to score 2!
Joshua Epps [2] def. Kentaro Sakamoto [0] by forfeit
B Block: Cactus Mike [0] vs FBE World Tag Team Champion Capital STEEZ [0] Hold onto your Smirnoff because this next one was a doozy. Denzel Washington front row for the action, there was but one question on the big man’s mind: have either of these two ever had their sh*t pushed in? Starkville, Mississippi firmly in hometown boy Cactus Mike’s corner, Capital STEEZ had a whole rowdy, packed 10,000+ capacity crowd to deal with, Humphrey’s Coliseum not letting the outsider off easy in Cardiac Cactus Country. Mike searching for redemption after their Lifeline Classic meeting two months ago, he poured his soul into the chase, giving his legendary foe an even closer and tougher battle than last time.
But it wasn’t just the FBE World Tag Team Champion that had to weather a storm, The Ark sent tossing and turning on the Seven Seas, though never sinking, Cactus keeping one hand on the wheel and another pointing at the mast’s flag reading ‘HAIL STATE’, fighting not only for himself but his people too. They were neck-and-neck till the very end, but ultimately STEEZ proved that King Kong ain’t got nun on him, scoring his career’s 75th win – ¾ of the way to the big 100!
Capital STEEZ [2] (8) def. Cactus Mike [0] (6)

That’s Night Two of the Shining Light League in the bag! Some movement taking place in all blocks now, you can say the competition’s starting to begin now as competitors define the role they’re going to be assuming for the next couple months. Still a couple lads left to have their first block matches though, it’s going to be crucial for them to make an impact so as to not fall behind their peers in the game already. But that’s a matter for the next week’s show. For now, remember, pure rules.

Now Installing PaceMaker?… No, not a popular WinAmp plug-in. Sunday, July 9th, around 8:45 A.M. I wake up and go check on Mom. She's not feeling good at all, so I quietly leave her room to go get a small breakfast bite and a quick shower for the day. Very lucky I did that… At just shy of 11:30 A.M., we both hop in the Jeep that we had and drove all the way to St. Joseph's Hospital (without telling anyone, B TW!) The staff had no choice but to admit her immediately for a very low heart rate. At one point, it'd actually dropped to 39 beats a minute. They keep her for the next almost two days. Little did I know I'd be spending the night there on Monday… Literally! You see, someone came by to take me home later, but on Monday night, Dad and Justin decide to bring me to the hospital to see Mom. They must've wanted me to spend the night there, because they failed to bring me back home before 9:00 P.M. when visiting hours had expired for the day. So I'm stuck there and just can't get a wink of sleep. The following morning, a man from MedTronic, the company who makes the pacemaker, shows up to test it out, just to make sure it's all good and properly working. He nods approvingly. A job well done. So life resumes again… Things were relatively quiet till Easter Sunday of 2007, then… Oh? Wait? We were finally able to move back in to old territory on Sunday 4/15/07. But things weren't that quiet for too terribly long. Tuesday 5/1/07 Great Grandma Helen's Passing Around 1:05 A.M., I was just about to get some sleep on a decent early Tuesday – when I got a random call out of complete left field from my mom. "Grandma Helen just now passed away." Helen was my mom's grandmother, whom that omniscient darling of a martyr Jean Pesa despised at all costs. She treated her like a kid, more like a third-class citizen! Once again, she only cared about her image, not her health. Never mind that at the ripe young age of 89 (just 49 days shy of her 90th birthday), she had advanced Alzheimer's. No Aricept allowed here! So my mom would make regular trips to Village Towers to check on her. They abruptly ended on Tuesday 5/1/07. Oh, how so happy my darling grandmother was when Helen finally passed away. Think she wanted to collect on Helen's life insurance policy. The following Monday 5/7/07, we're at the funeral and omniscient-as-hell Jean A. Pesa pours all of the holy water on Helen's grave, not even leaving us a single drop. Don't worry, I had made sure not to show it, but I was extremely pissed off! While at the grave site, Aunt Carol (my grandmother's sister's) grandson, Nicholas, held my hand the entire time, tears still streaming down his face. He was shaking in profuse sadness. All he wanted was one thing: Me to play videogames with him and brighten his day. He didn't say it, but I kinda got the impression the other family and neighborhood kids were going soft on him. He needed a rougher opponent. He had no idea what he would be in for… How funny, because we go back to Aunt Carol's house for the wake party. The kids fire up the Sony PlayStation, pop in a copy of Mortal Kombat and off we go! Someone got me a Coke and we're off to the mat . The fighting session loads up, and I totally hit him with everything I've got! And maybe a kitchen or bathroom sink; Maybe a siphon toilet?! He's completely shocked! He can't even stand up before I knock him down yet again! My fingers still tapping buttons in particularly random patterns and moving the arrow pad around very fast, Nicholas calls his sister over to try to help him out. Um, yeah right. I nail her, too! I kept it up like the Energizer bunny, probably because I was (and still am) very pissed off with the way that omniscient-claiming-to-be Jean Pesa acted at that funeral, almost as if Grandma Helen didn't even belong in our family! They're completely blown away by my effort. Aunt Carol even comes in at one point. She's even in disbelief. Nicholas, despite my complete annihilation of him in a videogame, wanted me to come back for more again because he enjoyed my playing style. He gave me a very tight hug (still crying a bit, but this time with joy) and said I was always welcomed around him. But alas, the party ended soon and we had to head back home to Tampa's old territory, and dramatizingly-filled gangsta-ly lifestyle. And now, we'll move on. Next, a real thought for me; Yes, Larry actually thinks about me, finally! Laptop at a Restaurant Twas almost a full twelve years since the child support drop and now Thursday 4/24/08. A few weeks earlier at one of our regular dinners, Larry had informed me that something was slated to arrive down the proper pipeline for me. This is the date that the drop of water in the aquiphor (ok, flood gate-compromised dam) arrived. We'd just finished dinner at Chilli's (me a cheeseburger and French fries; him a rack of baby-back ribs) and were in the parking lot, sitting in a white 2005 Ford Explorer just passing some time. He reached over towards the back seat, pulling out a leather briefcase. (Joking around, he says there's some paperwork inside that I need to fill out and sign.) "hand me a pen, Bio-Pop?" He does. I even go so far as to print my name on the case as if I'm signing some sort of legally-bound non-exclusive, non-negotiating and totally non-transferring contract. Um, yeah, right… I carefully open it. To my Persian Gulf War shock and awe, it's not paperwork, but rather, a plastic outline of a case? Via further viewing, I see a few plug slots for common items… Uh–Oh, a full-fledged laptop! I spent a little time getting reacquainted with Windows XP Service Pack 3 Pro (5.1.2600) then put it in hibernation because I knew we were getting close to home. As we pull in to the driveway, I gather my things and close my eyes real tight, and shake… As if to cry. I quickly got out of the car, unlocked the house door and walked inside; didn't even look at him as he was leaving. Mom and Dad looked at me curiously. "what if I said my sperm donor finally thought about me for a change? In the last 12 years since filing the cease and permanent desistance of child support? Not to mention the spending of the savings bonds? We'll just say I got a new partner in crime?" I pull out and open the laptop Mom, you just got a new Solitaire. Dad, now you can look up those Florida Lottery numbers you always want. And btw you still haven't won yet..." A few USB flash drives and a Logitech EX110 wireless keyboard and mouse (or two) later, the first of a series of Bratcher Bashes happens. But before the bash, around August of 2008, we were in a renting dispute, so we had to move out. New temporary location: 2402 Hyland Ave.; Tampa, Florida 33602. Also before the bash (about a month or so), we say goodbye to BrightHouse Networks and hello to Verizon FiOS. Thursday, 10/30/08 (around 2 or so in the afternoon)was the drop date for BrightHouse; Apparently one of our neighbors thought it'd be cute to steal cable from us, as in ordering pay-per-view content. All being done behind our back. I'll never forget during the call I actually had to tell the personelle there that I'd just moved in to a kind of dangerous area where I could not afford to leave their darling equipment on the front porch to be picked up and stolen by one of the famous New Tampa gangsters, more like druggies. Keep in mind, my eyes are also tearing up, too. Like the neighbors even cared… Finally, Thursday, 11/6/08 (about 11 A.M.-ish), after getting stung by a wasp or two while trying to set it up, Daron (our installer), is able to get Verizon FiOS going for us. Yes, that's right, stung by a wasp. A new wireless router we now had serves all things FiOS to us, not just tv but also the internet and phone service. If memory served me right, it was the ActionTec MI424-WR. I'll come back to this later… Bratcher Bash 08 Saturday and Sunday, 12/20/08 and 12/21/08 By this time, we still had a rent dispute and moved out of the old house; When.... At about 2:30 P.M., that same trusty white 2k5 Ford Explorer shows up. I have my laptop and a change of clothes packed for the evening. It's time for me to get shipped off to Clearwater for a night over with those two darling individuals. Actually, three. Maggie (their daughter) would be there later on that day. They care about my image so much that they even want to wash and dry my clothes to get the cigarette smoke out! Um, wow! Really? I guess they disapprove of me hanging around my mom who smokes fulltime. Sure feels like a Camp 14 in Clearwater; like Larry and Rhea even care… Any who, the clothes are done before 4:45 P.M. and we hop in the Explorer to go to Carraba's Italian Restaurant. We had Maggie with us. This (and all the other Bratcher Bashes) also featured Heather, Scott, Branden, Kourtnie, and Kolbie. Should be a TV show called Party of Nine? (Later you'll see why it's a party of seven). Tonight stands out for one very distinct reason: The very long wait. Carraba's was packed solid. We had a 3&½ hour wait to eat. So Branden and Kolbie thought it'd be cute to bring along laser pens and shine them in to unsuspecting eyes, car windows, and even hotel windows. And maybe, an airplane or two? The rest of us are just minding our P's and Q's, like one of Larry and Rhea's little unwritten rules. Finally, by about 9:00, we're eating. We head back to the house to open gifts around 10:00. BTW, I said Larry and Rhea only care about image? Right? Good; because this and every Bratcher Bash, I'm always getting clothes, even if the pants don't fit snug, or the shirt's too small. And of course, there's plenty of socks and underwear. I'm still supposed to appreciate every single gift I get and NOT have any regrets about them. Yup, another one of Larry's unwritten rules. And, I must also model all of my new clothes before the congregation. Finally, after the modeling session, I was given two distinct boxes that I was NOT supposed to open till I got home tomorrow. Oh, the contents of the two bigger boxes, you ask? First was a Dynex USB 802.11G Wireless Network Adapter. The second: a Logitech Clear Chat Pro™ USB Wireless Headset. Then I got two smaller boxes which had USB flash drives. Alas, it was time to hit the hay and prepare for tomorrow. Something told me this was gonna be a very compressed morning so I'd need to be pretty quick in the getting ready department. Nothing could've been further from a lie. The following morning (Sunday 12/21/08 at around 6:30/45A.M.), I get a shower, pack up my gear, and get ready to go to Three Coins. It's a local Clearwater restaurant. While eating, the waitress was making some small conversation with us. I remembered one more of Larry's unwritten rules: Keep your disability to yourself; Better yet, don't advertise it, even if you're asked about it. So I just kept my mouth shut the entire time and enjoyed my country-fried omelet with hash browns. Yup, feeling like an outsider now. Remember, I'm not supposed to show any form of discontent or independence outward. Can you say a second (or third) class citizen? So I finally get to head home. The following Tuesday, 12/23/08, omniscient Grandma sneaks by totally unannounced. Her offering: a laptop case and a U3-certified 4-Gb USB flash drive. Once Christmas passes, it's back to the old grindstone. One of the big saving graces on this Verizon FiOS service is that no one on the outside can tap in to it. But that won't stop a neighbor of ours, Brandon, from hanging out in a downstairs bedroom to get his pay-per-view fix. Which he did for almost three months, just before our move back to old territory. (If we didn't move on our own we'd be forced to evict anyway courtesy of: Yeah, weed boy, Justin himself). By mid/late February, Verizon FiOS comes back with us during our move back to old territory for a $35 transfer fee. But not for much longer (about another four or so months). Meanwhile, In March of 2009 I had to sell the Yamaha PSR-275 keyboard to combat the drug show that Justin and Chris were putting on, not that they cared. I mention this in particular because a month or two prior I put the audio editor GoldWave through some seriously tasking work of editing out the 'dry' sounds off of that keyboard, knowing for certain I'd never hear it (or possibly any of its samples) again. Nevertheless the task was done complete with a ReaperMedia folder set up to hold all the sounds (and extras/random things I wanted to hold on to). Reaper is a digital audio workstation that allows me to record and manage audio live in realtime. But anyhow, around Tuesday 6/2/09, the Verizon service which had served so well (more like served Justin and his movie-ordering addiction) was officially cut at 6:00 A.M. I should know; he was watching a racing show on a channel called Speed (channel 112), and I was just about to go surf the web. However, a "Verizon walled garden" page with the address '
http://NoAccess.Verizon.net' shows up. Oh, forgot to mention, Mom was also working at WalMart (overnights). The Pizza-fied Desktop? Exactly a full week and 3 days later on Friday June 12th, 2009, around 2 P.M., a random 2005 Ford Explorer honks a horn outside for a quicky... In the backseat sits an interesting desktop, the HP Evo D510SFF. Carrying it was rather curious, like two pizza boxes molded together. I carefully got its contents inside, locked the door and let life carry on as normal (all the while knowing that the proper viewing of all things analog broadcast television were officially deemed dead, done and no longer honored as of 12:00:00 Saturday June 13th, 2009. Fwiw! I can get away from those two image-only-caring creeps with their silent contract! Or can I?; We do it all over again at Heather's house in Brandon. Bratcher Bash 09 Wednesday, 12/23/09 Around 2:30 P.M., that same trusty 2k5 Explorer shows up. It's off to Brandon for this hell of a bash. (Note: Western Digital rears its head for the very first time at tonight's all-star party.) Before that, a seemingly short five-minute drive is made out to be forty minutes due to a lot of traffic. After the dinner session at a local restaurant named Cheddar's, we head back to the house to open gifts. Going back was a lot more like it; five to ten minutes tops. Yup, more clothes for me; so it's an automatic model session. Darn, I keep forgetting how expendable I am at your expense. Finally, only one (1) digital gift this year. A slightly rectangular box was placed in front of me. I was given even more tightly specific instructions, although they really only said the exact same thing as last year. Once again, don't open the box till you get home. I was, however, given one very important warning as to what was in the box: A Western Digital MyBook Essential™ USB drive with one terabyte of storage space. Talk about completely out of left field. Line drive down the left field line, this ball's way back back back back back… Out of the park! Walk-off home run! Alas, time to head home and face the Tampa reality. Sure enough, I get home around 9:00/9:15 P.M.; My brother's girlfriend, Christian Brokaw, is still there. So my mom takes the slow time to tell her about the Bratcher dynamic and its long list of unwritten rules and regulations, all while I get the WD MyBook set up. Although she almost wished she hadn't the next morning… Things were slated to go from bad to worse if a pill head's on the loose… Domestic Violence Report Florida (not Deborah Fernandez) vs. Justin Bratcher Thursday, 12/24/09 The exact following Thursday after my getting the Western Digital MyBook hard drive. Yeah, that's right, Christmas Eve! Really inconvenient time for a family fiasco. Alas, Justin decided to play high all night long last night. You got it: Being on pills. Me and mom were the only people on the ground, so to speak. Things were fine till around 7:00 A.M. when my mom takes a look outside and sees him working on Christmas lights. The rest of the morning was kinda on edge, till around 11/11:30 A.M., when Justin decided he wanted to show his ass. Chris was getting a shower to get ready for work at a barber shop. At noon, my mom told Justin that he had to leave because he was getting in the way of the Christmas spirit and all he cared about was the next high. In other words, the next Mount Everest, anyone? He decided that he was gonna play the role of a greedy man, however; No "George Thoragood" here. in doing so, he scratches my mom and tries hitting her. She places a call to 911 and has him removed from the property, along with Chris. I'll mention Friday, 1/8/2010 very soon; there's some curious info you'll wanna see there… For now, it'll suffice to say that when the sheriffs showed up, they filed a report with the state of Florida; Not just on Deborah's behalf. So Justin had some major answering to do. Friday 1/8/10: What would've been Elvis Presley's 75th birthday "Stay off of my blue suade shoes!" Oh hi, you two love birds Justin and Chris. Around 10:30 A.M., a UHaul truck shows up with them in it; and even a police escort as an unmarked car. Or so he thinks… Justin has no idea he's going to get arrested for the domestic violence he committed back on Thursday 12/24/09. The same two sheriffs tell Mom not to say a word to him. He gets his things (except for the big tv he had here) & piles it all in to the UHaul truck. Note: The sheriff had no proof of purchase for the tv, so it stayed behind. Just as soon as the last item is put in and the UHaul podbay doors are sealed, out come the handcuffs! Christian gets to drive the UHaul home. As per Justin, he's hauled off to Orient Road jail, only to be bonded out by –? Jean Pesa! The all-mighty wonderful Satanic martyr of a soul who spreads joy, (more like pain), for all the world to see. We got a call the next morning, Saturday 1/9/10, at exactly 6:30 A.M. confirming the bond-out. The lady from the state office also told us that we needed to file a restraining order a.s.a.p. for our own protection. We promptly did that. He was ordered to take (and pay for) domestic violence classes, but never did; nor even pay for them. Darling know-it-all! I'm technically still pretty pissed about that even to this day.

The Black Gangster Disciples began as the Devil's Disciples in the 1950s in Englewood between 56th Street down to 67th Street. The Disciples started in Englewood from 56th to 67th their original first Englewood set. The Black King Cobras Nation was made in the early 1960s by Jerome "Shorty" Freeman. The Black Gangster Disciple Nation was started by a man named David Barksdale. David Barksdale was putting together gangs for The Black Gangster disciples. Jerome Freeman broke away and went back to being the Leader of the Black Disciples Nation . The wars between the Bds and Bgds in the 80s and 90s left the Bgds to drop the B from their name and go by the Gds. In 1994 The Gds made the The Growth and Development concept.
In 1994 the Black King Cobras begin to come back out as the Boss King Cobras/ Boss Queen Cobras. As a symbol of David Barksdale's life the six-pointed star {Star of David} was used by the BGDN as well as crossed pitchforks pointing up. The Boss King Cobras/ Boss Queen Cobras has a new leader but the original Chairman of the nation was Jerome Shorty Freeman. Jerome Freeman passed away in 2012. Many members still are close to the Black Discipes Nation. The 2010-2020 Gd V. Bd war made many Boss King Cobras to leave Bdn over hate. The Boss King Cobras are close with the New Breed Gangsters. The New Breed Gangsters of 67th/70th-Loomis/Justine /J-Town are the closest to the Boss King Cobras of 69th Halsted-Racine. 2023.03.07 21:05 GrowthSpare4396 Seem weird to anyone else?
2023.03.06 16:24 PlumAppleOrange I am 27 years old, make $74,000 working in Film/TV in NYC, and this week I quit my side hustle (kind of)!
Assets and Debt
Retirement Balance: $21,481 in a Roth 401(k) and $1,485 in a Roth IRA
Currently, I only contribute to my 401(k) up to my company’s match; this total includes a rollover from my previous job. I opened the IRA last year with cash from a bonus at work, and am only contributing minimally to it ($85/mo) until I pay off my student loans. It’s small but I’m proud of it regardless! (Thanks to @personalfinanceclub on Instagram for walking me through that process!)
Savings Account Balance: $4,650 in emergency savings
At the height of the pandemic this was up to $7k; I’d love to get this back up to that amount but I’ve been prioritizing loan payments and investing over this, so I’m not super concerned about it.
Checking Account Balance: $118.54
Ideally I’d like to keep about $500 in my account at all times as an extra buffer, but I have this overdraft linked to my savings, so even if a stray Venmo charge hits at an off time, I don’t have to pay any fees. I put all expenses on my credit cards and only pay rent and utilities directly from this account at the end of the month when I get paid.
Credit Card Debt: $0
I put all purchases and recurring subscriptions on this for the points and pay it off at the end of every month. In the last year I got a fancy new ~premium cc~ off a recommendation from a friend and I'm still sussing out whether its worth it or not, especially with a high annual fee ($250). There are perks to retroactively make this $10/year but I have my doubts. I usually put my card down for big group meals out and use Tab to have people pay me back so I can rack up enough points to justify this.
Student Loan Debt: $61.5k total. $34,500 in private @ 4.02% and $27,000 in federal loans currently on pause for a BS in TV, Radio, Film at a Private University.
After graduating this was closer to $120k total! In 2020 the private total alone was around $66k, so I’ve really put some work in the past few years. A 8-9% interest rate during school really racked things up; luckily by chance I met my friend’s uncle at her family barbecue who refinances loans for a living. They hooked it up and got me down to the 4.02% rate I’m at today.
I’m the first person in my family to go to a 4-year college, so when the time came for me to go, I hadn’t the slightest idea of how much debt I was taking out. My parents come from the Boomer School of “If you work hard and get a degree it will pay off!” (lol). To rub salt in the wound, of the handful of schools I applied to, I actually got a full ride to a small private school near my hometown, and I turned it down to go to my ‘dream school.’ But hey…I had a great time at least…
I joke with myself that coming to terms with my decision to take out these loans is similar to the 5 Stages of Grief, and I’m happy to say I’ve finally made it to acceptance (mostly!) The #1 goal of my mid/late twenties is to pay this off by my 30th birthday, and I’m proud to say I’m over halfway there. I used to have a lot of shame and bitterness towards peers who came through school debt-free, but learning to deal with this debt has introduced me to personal finance, taught me discipline, and given me a sense of pride. I’ve halved my debt while working in a notoriously low paying industry in a notoriously VHCOL city! Still, I wouldn’t wish this burden on anyone and hope that that $10k federal relief comes through. I’m le tired.
Income
Income Progression: I was, at any given point between 16-22: a cashier at a pharmacy, a day-camp counselor (minimum wage to babysit 12 7-year olds?! This was easily the worst.), a dietary aide at a retirement community, a ski rental attendant, a waitress, an admin assistant, a wedding photographevideographer, and a beer brand ambassador.
I’ve been in the Film/TV Industry for 7 years, two years of which were internships. Since I’ve been a full-time employee I’ve considered changing careers to advertising where pay is more lucrative or pursuing an MBA (lol no more debt plz), but I just can’t bring myself over the hurdle to fully commit to it. I do genuinely feel passionate about the industry I’m in (not necessarily what I do specifically) and believe that the more non-trust-fund kids behind the scenes, the better off we’ll all be culturally. It feels self-righteous to think of it that way, but it keeps me going. I want to help artists tell their stories!
I held one unpaid internship that I would actively leave early from to go to one of my paid pt jobs. The industry is infamously full of barriers to entry for anyone not wealthy and well-connected, and I have a putrid hatred for unpaid internships. Exposure doesn’t pay the bills
Job 1: My starting salary after graduation was $38k (actually illegal in NYC). Whilst in this same position, I was bumped to $47.5k and then finally $58.5k because I pointed this salary law out before moving to my current company. Luckily, I held onto this position throughout the beginning of the pandemic even when work was nearly at a standstill. During peak ‘Rona I waited tables in my home state under the table while checking my laptop for emails in the kitchen during downtime. This is how I started paying down $1k+/month on my loans and building out my emergency fund.
Job 2: I started with my current company at $65k, and recently was promoted with a title and pay bump to $74k. I know I’m still underpaid for my given role, but I’m fully WFH and want to have a calm summer before I dive into the job hunt.
Main Job Monthly Take Home: $4,158
Side Gig Monthly Take Home: ~$400
Since last summer I’ve been spending weekend mornings manning the front desk at a boutique fitness studio. I love the calm atmosphere and the sense of community there, and I can take free classes too! The only kicker is that this is so far from my apartment. I live or die by catching the bus at 6:30am on a Saturday and….I’m over it! With my new promotion at my main gig (and a new relationship I’d like to spend lazy Sunday mornings relishing in) I’m gifting myself my weekends back. This week I told my manager I’d like to be phased out of the schedule by May, so I’m still here for now, and I’ll honestly miss it! If I happen to move closer to the studio when my lease is up, I’d happily consider picking shifts back up.
I’m going to focus this summer on re-upping my previous side-hustle: photography! Every now and then mostly through word-of-mouth I’ll shoot headshots, weddings or other events. I enjoy getting to be on my feet and be creative while making something that brings people joy. If I didn’t love the security of a fixed paycheck, I’d honestly pursue this as a more long-term serious career.
I also dogsit for friends (I have 3 god dogs and counting) for usually around $35/night.
Expenses
Rent: $970 (my share of a 3bd 1.5ba apt)
I’ve been in my current apartment for going-on 4 years and I feel SO lucky to pay as little as I do (with in-unit washer dryer too :’) ). We’re finally breaking up the band at the end of this lease though, and I have a lot of anxiety over my next move. Because I’m WFH I’ve considered moving back with my parents for even a few months to pocket cash to throw towards my loans, but that feels like such a stab to my independence, and I’ve made it this far, right? Odds are, any future job would either be here or in LA, so I’m at a crossroads as to whether I should enjoy my freedom of movement while I have it, or keep staying the course…
Utilities (Gas, Electric, Internet): $75 (my share)
Subscriptions:
Disney+, Spotify, Hulu (split on a family plan with who knows how many people at this point): $10.25
Gym: $13.45
Wax: $52 (I debate cancelling this often but…it’s so quick and convenient and shaving sucks and can’t we have nice things!)
Trade Org Dues: $200/annually
I should honestly pitch this to my company to be comped for me but…I get to see a lot of advanced movie and TV screenings through this org, so usually it pays for itself since I’d otherwise pay to see these in theaters. The screenings usually have talent Q&As as well and I can bring guests for free, so it’s a nice bonus as well as a networking opportunity.
Debt Payments: $1000 to private student loans
After refinancing in 2020 I’ve been going HAM on these. I try to do more than $1000 a month, but usually this is the most I can muster. Before federal loans were paused I had those on an IDR plan so that I could continue throwing the majority of my cash at the private loans. Once they pick back up in the summer I hope I can still keep this momentum going. I try to think of this as an extension of my rent, since a lot of fellow peers pay around $1900 for their apartments, and that makes me feel better for some reason.
Parental Help: Phone plan, Netflix, Amazon Prime
There was a period of time where I was paying for my share of the phone bill, but I think my parents see this as the one place they can pitch in financially, and I’m grateful for it!
Diary
Day 1:
6:00am: It’s Saturday and that means I have to be at the gym by 7:30 for my shift. My boyfriend, M, wakes up like clockwork to turn the coffee machine on for me. Despite being perfectly capable myself of hitting the ‘on’ button, I love that he’ll always insist on doing this even when it’s the ass-crack of dawn on the weekend. He passes back out, I shove some oatmeal down my gullet and wash it down with coffee, then grab the subway to the gym. $2.75
1:00pm: My shift goes by without a hitch, and I hang back a few minutes after to see if there’s any no-shows for the 1pm class with my favorite instructor so that I can drop-in. Unfortunately, everyone’s on time and accounted for, so no class for me today. That’s alright though because I’m also dogsitting today! The dog’s owners, two dear friends, headed out around noon, so by the time I head back to their place, he’ll be ready for some cuddles and a walk. I subway back up to M’s, who happens to live a block away from my charge for the weekend. $2.75
2:00pm: Realizing I’m starving and craving baked goods…luckily on my walk from the subway back to M’s I pass by a plethora of options! I settle on a croissant for each of us and a lemon loaf to share. I text him to put the tea kettle on so we can enjoy our afternoon treats before bundling up in the freezing temps to take the pup for a stroll. $11
3:00pm: With all three of us in our winter jackets, we head over to Central Park. M and I both agree it’d be nice to have something warm to sip on while we walk, and the nearest joint we spot is a Starbucks. I grab us a pistachio latte to share…which doesn’t really taste like pistachio at all…and we do a solid 2 mile stroll despite the cold. I can tell M and the pup are doggin’ it and freezing by the time we head back home. $7.24
4:00pm: I pop into a grocery store to grab some cucumbers before we head inside; we’re planning on making poke bowls tonight! You know that annoying feeling when you’re frantically browsing an unfamiliar store for one small simple thing? This turns into a whole ordeal and I finally find the little Persian cucumbers I want. Why are they $6?! Ugh, whatever, M grabbed wine and the rest of the ingredients for dinner tonight, including fresh tuna, so I cough up the cash for my expensive lil’ cucs. $5.99
7:00pm: The poke bowls actually slap and were so easy to put together! We gorge on our bowls with some wine, cuddle it up with the pup and some comedy specials, and I pass out by 10:30 in a heap of my two furry friends.
Daily Total: $29.73
Day 2:
9:30am: Normally I’d work at the gym at 10am on Sundays, but it’s easy enough to get shifts covered, so when I knew I’d be dogsitting I gave up today so I could sleep in and have more pup time. Plus, what my friends pay me ($50) for a night makes it easy to justify dropping a 5 hour minimum wage shift. I call it even-enough! The three of us lounge in bed and take our time getting up for the day. We finally gear up for another Central Park walk; this time M grabs the coffee and pastries.
12:00pm: My friends will be back soon, so we hug the dog goodbye and leave him back at their apartment with a chewy stick. So many of my friends are getting pets now, which makes me 3-fold grateful that I 1. Have magically inherited an additional side hustle 2. Have a plethora of new furry friends to shower with affection 3. Have a plethora of new furry friends to shower with affection that I don’t have to regularly be responsible for or pay for. It’s huge. I’m like the fun aunt. I’d love a dog one day, but when I’m loan-free and in a bigger space.
1:00pm: M recently treated himself to a PS5 with some of his tax refund, and he just started Hogwarts Legacy. I used to be a big gamer when I was younger, so I’m lavishing in some rare weekend free time to finally create my witch! We make mimosas with a bottle of bubbly that we’ve had waiting in the fridge for a lazy Sunday and top them with some pomegranate arils. I’m having the time of my life…I cannot wait to get my weekend days back as I’m phased out of the gym schedule. Eventually, I head out to the subway to meet my friend S for some shopping and strolling. I realize I’ve hit the 12-rides-then-its-free mark for the subway this week, so the rest of my rides for the day are free! Yay!
4:00pm: S and I have a great time popping into shops and walking from 5th Ave down to Union Square. She’s on a mission for a new work outfit and I’m on the hunt for some new pants and running shoes. I try on a bunch of clothes and make mental notes to check online for when I can snag them on sale while she pulls the trigger on some fire fits. We finally get to the sporting goods store and I just can’t land on a pair I love. I’m a big runner (NYC Marathon this year!!!), so I usually set aside up to $120 for a new pair every Spring (usually from my tax refund) and I pore over the commitment annually. I try on a final pair I like but check my phone at the last minute to find that they’re actually 40% cheaper from a different seller. Huzzah! I’ll grab them online this week. We seal our successful day with a tradition, which is grabbing bubble tea and gossiping on the subway back to Brooklyn. $6.26
7:00pm: S invites me over to her place to make dinner with her roommate B, who also happens to be another dear friend! We stop at the grocery store for the goods and some wine, and she covers the bill since she picked up some extra things for her work week. S makes a great quick pasta with vodka sauce, veggies, and plant-based sausage while B and I sip wine. Overall, a stunning weekend! I eventually head to the subway for my final ride home, and Venmo S $10 for my share of dinner and wine. $10
Daily Total: $16.26
Day 3:
8:00am: Definitely one of those not-ideal mornings where you oversleep, then kick yourself for oversleeping by moping about it, then start a vicious cycle where you just aren’t very productive for the majority of your day. Working fully remote has it’s perks, but one of the downsides is definitely being completely alone on some days, especially when you could use energy from other people to pick you up!
3:00pm: It’s supposed to finally snow tonight and I have a run to make up for that I didn’t get to this morning, so I use the impending storm as a push to finally get my butt into gear for the day. I bust out some emails and check-in calls, and go to order my new running shoes, a bright spot in an otherwise Monday-of-all-Mondays. They come out to $69.78, way cheaper than I had planned for, so I add a few items that had been pending in my cart to round out my purchase: protein powder to replace my current dwindling stock ($28.44), and a skein of yarn ($11.53) to finish a blanket I’ve been working on crocheting for M (this was supposed to be a Christmas gift but I kept running out of yarn and not finding the proper colors in stock…bless his patience I should be done in the next week or so.) $109.75
7:00pm: I finish up my run right as it starts sleeting sideways into my eyes and use the momentum I’ve finally mustered up to grocery shop for the week. I settle on a menu of black bean soup and quesadillas for my planned meals for the week since a lot of the ingredients overlap ($44.67).
My roommate’s birthday is tomorrow and while we already celebrated by having a laser tag party the week before, I stop at a cute gift shop in my neighborhood to get her a little something small to open in the morning. I pick out a fancy chocolate bar and a candle ($24.50). We’ve had a sparkly paper birthday garland saved for the past 4 years in our apartment, so I make sure I go to bed after her to set up the garland and her gift. $69.17
Daily Total: $178.92
Day 4:
6:00am: Roomie and I have started an accountability routine to hit the gym on Tuesday and Thursday mornings together. When I ran my last marathon in 2019 I was so good about being up at 5-6am to get long runs and workouts in before having to be at the office, but the struggle to find motivation while working at home is real, so I’m grateful to have her. On our way home I stop at our neighborhood coffee shop to pick up some fresh grounds for our home machine. The shop gives you a free coffee with a grounds purchase, and I give this to Roomie as an additional birthday treat. I whip up a protein smoothie for breakfast along with some yogurt and homemade granola. $8.62
12:00pm: Lunch is the black bean soup I made for the week and guys it….is a total let down. It tastes like its halfway to being chili and then gave up. I’m going to be eating sad soup for the next four days. Big sigh. Can’t win ‘em all.
6:00pm: It’s Tuesday and that means…discount movie tickets! I love going to the movies and while I often get to see them for free through work, I usually never turn down an opportunity to see something out of work context with friends especially on discount day. Today’s choice for Roomie’s bday? COCAINE BEAR!!! I purchase a ticket for myself and M ahead of the showtime ($10) and he grabs us some beers and candy from CVS.
Our showtime isn’t until 8:30pm, so M and I have some time to kill in Manhattan before meeting up with everyone ($2.75 subway). We eye up a tiny Thai restaurant next to the theater and split a killer dinner. We get lychee martinis, crab fried rice, crab rangoons, and tofu pad thai ($56.74 for my half). I feel a little guilty since I hadn’t planned on buying dinner out tonight, but for the amount of food and drinks we got the price actually isn’t bad, and I don’t have any dining out plans on the docket for the next week or so. $69.49
10:00pm: COCAINE BEAR is a fun time! I love Elizabeth Banks and I’m so happy that she’s helmed a whacky ride of a movie. I can’t wait for the two highest grossing movies directed by women in 2023 to be COCAINE BEAR and BARBIE. I subway back up to M’s for the night, bathed in the afterglow of pure cinema. $2.75
Daily Total: $80.86
Day 5:
8:00am: I sip some coffee in bed with M and lament having to trudge back home to work. Eventually I scoot out the door and subway home, lining up my workday in my head on the ride back. $2.75
12:00pm: More sad soup and work :(
6:00pm: A friend from college is getting married this year and invited me along to join the bachelorette party next month. It’s starting to feel like wedding expenses (including/especially for weddings that aren’t your own) are a woman in her late 20’s biggest financial gripe, and the other NYC friends that were invited and I have discussed this topic in depth. The majority of us decided to go, and I already paid for my flight with miles earlier this year. The 2nd half of the Airbnb expense is due today to the bride, so I Venmo her my share. I’ve had this on my calendar for months, so I’ve anticipated this payment. I’m excited to see everyone and have a girl’s trip next month! I know bachelorette weekends can occasionally be an overrated dramatic money suck, but knowing this bride and the girls involved, I think it'll be a great weekend. $176
8:00pm: Finally not sad soup for dinner! I whip up some mushroom quesadillas from a recipe I saw online…these definitely make up for SadSoup. I relish my ‘dilla and work on M’s blanket before passing out.
Daily Total: $178.75
Day 6:
6:00am: Roomie and I head to the gym for our Thursday date. I make this a 2-for-1 and get my run in immediately after as well. My new shoes should arrive tomorrow and I cannot wait to burn this current pair and never wear them again. (I won’t actually burn them…but I will donate them and then slather my poor decimated heels with ointment and lotion.)
12:00pm: We have our first cohort of interns this season and I find out the main one I interact with will be in town next week! We make plans to work out of our parent company’s office in person next week and I make a note to ask my boss if I could comp lunch for the two of us beforehand. I feel like I’m losing the ability to casually interact with people in a work setting so I’m looking forward (and simultaneously anxious lol!) to this.
7:00pm: I talked such a big game on these mushroom quesadillas to M that he’s heading over to try some. I ask him to snag some oyster mushrooms from his grocery store, since I want to really kill it with this second round and my store was out. I pick up a few more supplies for a midweek re-stock at the grocery store and get rolling on the ‘dillas with M on Sous duty. I forget how much mushrooms cook down, so our ‘dillas end up a little underfilled but are still delicious. We’ve been enjoying cooking and iterating on recipes together, so we make a note to double our shroom supply for the next go at these. After cleaning up, we catch up on this week’s episode of THE LAST OF US and try out a new board game he picked up earlier this month. I win :) $9.74
Daily Total: $9.74
Day 7:
Rejoice, it is Friday!
8:00am: M and I work from home together at my apartment today, since we have plans for a bar-and-boardgame night with S and her boyfriend in my neighborhood tonight. I make us my morning smoothie recipe and some coffee, and we have an otherwise quiet work day.
12:00pm: S texts to cancel for tonight since both she and her boyf are feeling under the weather. I’m bummed but we quickly make plans to reschedule. I still have to be up at 6am tomorrow to get to the gym for work, so I reason that I should use tonight to rest (and maybe finish this blanket project…).
5:00pm: M heads home since I decide to take the night for myself. I leave some work projects that are downloading up, but otherwise decide we’re done with work for the time being.
8:00pm: I almost went all day without spending for once this week but decide that since I was planning on going out tonight initially I deserve a little wine, as a treat :) I pick up a bottle from my neighborhood spot and settle on THE HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE as tonight’s movie. It’s cute, quick, and funny, the perfect cozy movie to enjoy on your own in place of a hug. I polish off the last of the sad soup (finally!), work on the blanket (almosttttt done) and head to bed early for work tomorrow morning. $13.34
Daily Total: $13.34
Weekly Total: $507.60
Reflections:
My two big purchases this week, running shoes and the bachelorette payment, definitely hiked this number up ($261.82 without), but I had anticipated both purchases so I’m not too shaken by this. Since I’m only two pay cycles into my new salary, I’ve been staying the course with my budget. I’m hoping to revisit it in a few weeks to see if I can add on to my monthly loan payment, but I’m also trying to fret less about small comfort purchases and enjoy myself more at the same time. A constant balancing act!

2023.03.06 13:45 boutell New US CCS chargers report for February 2023
Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in February 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
- Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
- Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
There were 194 CCS charge points added in January 2023. That shows continued growth month after month. For comparison, there were only 87 new CCS charge points in February 2022.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can
sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself.

2023.03.05 02:20 JMantilla Moving plant sale - Central district
We are moving out of town soon and have several plants that will need living parents. Most of these are houseplants but I also have 3 very healthy pepper plants that were overwintered (1 ají amarillo, 1 rocoto and 1 habanero). Indoor plants include 2 snake plants, 2 wax begonias, 2 jade plants, 2 Easter cacti, 1.5 variegated pothos (one is not doing so great), 1.5 tradescantia zebrina, 1 small cactus, and other assorted succulents.
We will be having a garage sale tomorrow 2/5 at 2 pm (corner of 18th Ave and Lane). Please DM or stop by if interested!
