Coffee stir boat motor
I.. don't think I'm the first one to wake up anymore...
2023.06.02 00:02 Yousaidthat I.. don't think I'm the first one to wake up anymore...
Hi...
So. I don't really know how much time I have left -- but I'm hoping I can maybe find someone else who has experienced this before ... or maybe just warn others. Before this week, I'd never had any kind of mental health issues beyond the odd bout of anxiety or depression. No history of anything severe in the family either. This all just... came out of nowhere.
So on Tuesday morning, early -- like, before 7 or something, my partner woke me up with her usual morning routine. Shower, sink, etc. etc. Nothing out of the ordinary - Usually I have my roll around the bed in existential denial and then get up to brew us some coffee. Now, I obviously fit in my denial roll but when I tried to sit up... it happened.
My dog, a small little dachshund, started growling and snarling viciously. At the same moment... it was like I lost forward motor function in body. Everything gave out in my back and my head hit the pillow. I lost consciousness. I don't know how long I was out but when I woke up, I had several texts from my partner with varying levels of concern ...basically just telling me to go to bed earlier tonight so I can get up and have breakfast with them the next day.
Weird... but forgettable.
But that was just how it started.
Because the next day, it was basically the same thing -- stirring in the morning, rustle, rustle, roll roll -- sit up - dog growls - fall back to sleep. When I woke up, I had no texts at all. Shit, she must be really pissed at me. So I texted her right away.
"Hey babe! I'm so, so sorry about that! I don't know what's going on, I swear I came to bed at a normal time."
I sat there stewing for a second. That's when I noticed my dog was sleeping on the floor on the other side of the room.. well, not sleeping. Watching me. A chime from my phone --
"What are you talking about? You got up and we had breakfast together...We did a lot more than that lol. You made me late for work... you just wouldn't stop. It was hot though ;)"
I still remember the mixture of confusion, anger and...jealousy?? that hit me immediately. All the obvious questions hit me and none of them had any reasonable answers. What was going on with me? Was I going into a miniature fugue state?? But what kind of fugue state lasts 2 hours? It fucked with me... hard, that first day. I didn't want to worry her but I knew it was going to be hard to keep it from her.
So I had an idea. I would try recording myself. I've got a small nanny cam from when we had someone dogsit (i know, I know) and I placed it inconspicuously on top of one of our shelves so it would catch my attempt to sit up. I wanted to see if it looked like anything was giving out in my back.. or even how long I stayed asleep. I just had to make it through the night without weirding out my partner too much... which turned out to not be an issue. She was all over me when she got home and, honestly, we tired ourselves out. I meant to do some sort of prep-work or something before the next day but honestly I just passed out.
And when I woke up I had 5 text messages from my partner.. and instead of it being 10 or so in the morning, it was almost 6 in the evening. My chest and body were burning with... scratch marks... all over them. The room was chaos. Bed sheets strewn around and dressers knocked over. I had dried blood all over my shirt and the camera was smashed into fragments against the far wall. I opened the texts.
"Why did you do that to me?"
"I don't know anything about that camera.. I can't believe you would act like such a psycho and not believe a single thing I told you."
"I don't think I can ever trust you again, Stephen. My brother is going to be by later to get my stuff. Don't even ask about Dobie."
The next two were from much later in the day. Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt my world come unglued.
"If you ever come near me again I'm calling the cops. I don't know what's happened to you but you need to seek professional help.. right away. I could barely keep my coworkers from calling the cops on you. What were you even trying to say?? Look I don't even want to know -- you need help."
At this point I was sobbing quietly into my hand. I felt so alone and completely unhinged. My eyes scanned the room for answers or explanations. They came to rest on something, finally, as I read the last text sent 20 minutes ago,
"Stephen... has Alex come by yet? He was supposed to be back an hour ago."
I haven't done very much since reading that text - I don't know what's going to happen next. I don't think I'm very good at hiding bodies.

I’m a regional AeroPress 2nd place holder (losing against the three time current regional champion), and lost in the first round against our current national AeroPress champion in the national championship. When I’ve spoken about my experience it had some interest, so I thought it might be a good thing to write a little summary of my findings.
An AeroPress Championship is a competition in which you brew a coffee with an AeroPress, normally at the same time as two other competitors, which then normally three judges taste, without communicating with each other, and then choose the best-tasting one, by pointing to the winning cup. The name of the contestant is written under the cup, and switched places before the judges taste them, so there should be no way of knowing who’s cup is which.
There are three rules that must be observed:
You can’t use more than 18 grams of ground coffee. You must present a coffee of at least 150ml. You have to brew and present it within 5 minutes. You can grind and heat your water before the timer starts. The beans for the competition will normally be ones from the organizers or sponsors of the competitions. They are the same for everyone. They will be made available for the participants 10 days before the competition, either for pick-up or by sending them to you. You’ll get one bag of 250 grams of beans, and another bag of the same size the day of the competition.
In those 10 days, you can experiment with the beans all you want. Keep in mind that if you use 18 grams of beans each time, you can only brew 13 cups, so be mindful of how you use the beans.
For me, the best strategy was first picking up a well-renowned good water for coffee in my country. You can try different waters and do a cupping first if you really want to nail the water first, but it takes a lot of effort (you have to brew each water independently), and I don’t think you get much out of it in the beginning.
From there use a well-known to you recipe that you normally use for the AeroPress. For me, it was the James Hoffman Method:
12g beans 200ml water 100º C water 2:00 shake, 2:30-3:00 press. Now you have a baseline for what it tastes like, and you can experiment. The good thing is that all variables are defined and there is somewhat of a golden zone.
Water: You should look for a well-renowned water for being good for coffee in your country. Other than that, I know that Calcium, Magnesium, and alcalinity are important for coffee extraction, but not enough to tell you the exact proportions, sorry. You can go as deep on this as want. You can use a Britta or BWT Filter, you can buy water packets from specialty coffee vendors, or you can create your own with distilled water, and then calculate the quantities of sodium bicarbonate and magnesium sulfate you need to add to get the quality in the water that you want. This will give you very marginal gains in terms of taste, much much less than having a good recipe, so I’d say that unless you know what you are doing, at most buy a few easily available and well regarded waters, and with your recipe determined, try which one tastes best.
Temperature: Most recipes recommend brewing between 80º C to 100ºC, so try 3 brews changing only temperature, 90ºC, 80ºC, and 100ºC. I recommend trying with 90ºC first because it is more likely to being close to optimal, so you’ll have a decent reference to start from. The generally accepted wisdom is that darker roasted coffee is preferably brewed at a lower temperature, and lighter roasts at almost boiling temperatures. I’d say lately the lighter roasts being better at boiling points affirmation has been more in contention, especially with experimental fermentation coffee. In any case, taste is king.
Brew time: Most recipes start from at least 1 minute. Since you have a 5-minute time limit to make and serve the coffee, I would recommend not brewing more than for 4 minutes. Keep in mind that you’ll also have to prepare the AeroPress, pour the water, and cool down the coffee in that time. Technically the longer you brew it, the sweeter the coffee will be, but extraction can be sped up with stirring. Stirring is less likely to be consistent brew to brew so be wary of that, since you’ll be going round through round with the same recipe, and its a good thing to be consistent.
Grind size: Start with the grind size recommended for the AeroPress for your grinder, and go finer until you notice astringency (it dries out your mouth) and go one step coarser. That’ll be the perfect grind setting for you. They’ll most likely offer you a few different grinders during the competitions, but if you don’t know the perfect setting for your recipe on that grinder I would refrain from using them, even if they are much more sophisticated, because it’ll most likely produce different effects on your recipe. It has been said that grinding twice, first very coarse and then those ground beans to the final desired size may be beneficial, as it may be a way to reduce ultrafines and create a more even grind, and the current AeroPress World Champion has certainly done so, but I do not think that she won solely because of that.
Proportions of coffee and water: This is a difficult one. The AeroPress can hold at most about 300ml, and that would be pushing it. If you brew normally some of that will bypass the coffee without actually extracting much, which will the reduce the strength of the coffee compared to using the inverted method. This is not necessarily a bad thing just something to account for when trying recipes. Since you can use only 18g or less and the AeroPress can only hold about 300ml you have two upper limits here, which coincidentally makes for a somewhat golden zone ratio, as that would be 1 part of beans to 16 parts of water (also normally expressed as 1:16) You can manipulate it by using more water after brewing but it is a good reference to have. I’ve seen people go as low as 1:20 and as strong as 1:10. So that would be 10 grams and 20 grams of ground beans for 200ml of water, respectively. It has been said that bland coffees benefit from using stronger ratios, and flowery and experimentally processed coffees from milder concentrations to let the smells and taste develop, but I’d say it is very bean specific. Just determine it according to your own taste.
Filters: According to the official rules you can use any kind of filter as long as you use the normal filter cap from the AeroPress itself. You can use official paper filters from AeroPress itself, the fairly recently produced official metal Aeropress filter, or a cloth one if you want. I’ve also seen competitors using two paper filters at the same time, and Aesir filters, which are a premium type of filter said to provide more clarity.
Other considerations: Additionally, it is important to keep in mind that the judges will taste the coffee short after brewing it, so if it is still hot, it will not be judged favorably. I have an external thermometer so I’ve determined that the optimal serving temperature for me was 65ºC, which I managed to reach quickly by switching the coffee from mug to mug a few times to get it to cool down quickly, because the heat of the coffee will dissipate in the cold mug. Optimal drinking temperature has been said to be 60ºC, so I keep it a little higher because I don’t know how long the judges will take to cup the brewed coffee. Keep in mind that the judges will base their judgments of your coffee by sipping the coffee (loudly) from a spoon, much like cupping, so the whole brew won’t be judged as such, just those sips. Make sure you optimize taste for this, then.
While calibrating your recipe keep in mind to only change one variable at a time, and in order to do comparative tasting I would actually recommend using more than one AeroPress if you can to keep the brewed coffee temperatures similar at the same time.
On the day of the competition I’ve seen people spread out their beans to filter out defect beans which can improve flavor. I’ve also seen the Kruve and other sifters being used to filter out the ultrafines after grinding, as they have a tendency to overextract and taste bitter. If you have it and want to use it do so by all means, but otherwise I wouldn’t even entertain the thought.
Final thoughts: I would like to clearly state that I only wrote this out to put a method to my own process of optimizing a recipe for a specific bean as a learning process, and that the most important part of participating in an AeroPress competition is having fun, getting to know other people that have the same passion as you, make new friends and grow as a person. At the end of the day, you can think you have the best recipe ever, but if it is not according to the tastes of the judges there is nothing you can do, so relax and have fun. You are likely to see people who have been years in the industry with very expensive tools, but don’t let that intimidate you, because in my experience they are as likely to win as the newcomers if their recipe is more according to the tastes of the judges. Everybody there will share the same passion as you for the beverage, so take the opportunity to make some friends in the industry.
I hope this text gives you a little bit of direction in the search for the perfect AeroPress recipe! Also, feedback is extremely welcome!

2023.06.01 19:54 CIAHerpes I worked as a park ranger in Alaska. There were inhuman things living in the vast wilderness (part 1)
I worked as a park ranger in Northern Alaska for years, from when I was in my early twenties until my mid-thirties. At first, when I took the job, I was trying to escape, but over time, I learned to love it- the endless wilderness, the snow-capped mountains, the muffled way everything sounded during blizzards. With no light pollution, the stars up there look like tiny chips of diamond. And during the winter, the Northern Lights roll in, twisting and shimmering in strange, alien colors.
But a few years ago, things got much worse. People up here have started to go missing at an alarming rate. And I started having strange experiences around the park and the nature preserve.
One of the strangest parts of my story started on a freezing, dark night in 2018. I was on a snowmobile out in a terrible blizzard. The conditions were nearly to the point of being impassable. The snow was falling so thick and fast that it looked like a moving, shimmering wall of white on all sides of me.
Another ranger, a huge, lumbering man named ‘Ace’ Acosta, pulled up behind me on a second snowmobile. I looked at him, standing six foot six with majestic peaks stretching up into the night sky, and thought about what a great picture this would make. As I was looking around, I saw the faint tracks in the snow. Ace’s snowmobile lights were pointed in their direction, and I had been standing almost on top of them without realizing it- which is fairly easy to do when a few inches of snow are falling every hour.
At first, I thought it was the frozen tracks of an injured animal. I saw the drops of blood soaked into the superficial ice first. Following their direction with my eyes, I realized there were footprints pressed into the frozen crust leading away from me and towards the flat stretch of the tundra. I squinted, getting down on my knees and leaning inwards. I didn’t want to trample the tracks.
I quickly realized I was looking at human footprints- naked human footprints. But who would be out here in December in -40 degree winds without shoes? They would die rapidly out here. Just for me to drive across the tundra on a snowmobile required me to wear three jackets, long-johns, snow pants, thick jeans, a ski mask and multiple layers of socks and gloves with hand-warmers. I wore special water-proof boots with composite toes that wouldn’t freeze like steel toes. And despite all of this, I was still cold.
I moved forward, and saw handprints mixed in with the footprints, all of them bloody. The ice was thick enough to slice open human hands and feet, undoubtedly. The logical conclusion was unshakable- someone had crawled through here, maybe naked, on all fours, and their frozen body would be somewhere up ahead. I sighed, turning to Acosta. He still stood in the same position, his face covered in a red scarf with only his eyes showing. I saw one ice-covered eyebrow raise questioningly.
“I think we got us a body somewhere nearby,” I said, getting back on my snowmobile and starting it. He did the same.
“What kind of freaked-out tweaker would be walking around here without clothes on?” Ace asked in his deep baritone. “Man, I need a hit of whatever that guy’s on. I’ve got two sweaters and two winter jackets on, and I’m still cold. Eh, Kelton? Eh? What do you say?” He started elbowing me jokingly. I frowned, not responding.
Ace always had a smart aleck remark. He was next to me when I was interviewed for this job originally, down at the recruitment center in Washington state. The old lady doing the interviewing was a bloodless, angry-looking specimen of a woman with huge glasses that magnified her eyes twice over. She spat out each of the questions like a drill sergeant talking to fresh meat in the Army.
“Are you a member of any organized religion?” she had asked brusquely. Ace shook his head.
“No, ma’am, but I am a member of a disorganized religion,” he said. “We call ourselves ‘the Servants of the Old Ones’. We’re waiting for the ancient reptilian gods at the bottom of the ocean to awaken. So far, however, they haven’t responded to any of our texts.” I thought about this as I revved the engine twice, a sign that I was about to pull off and that he should stay close.
We took off, going slow and following the tracks as close as possible without destroying them. But the tracks just kept going, the bloodstains seeming to grow fainter as we moved forward- and strangely enough, the distance between the hand and footprints also started to get longer, as if someone were running on all fours and speeding up. We were nearing the beginning of the forest of evergreens when I saw a white flash just up ahead.
The thing that ran from us was humanoid, but I knew at once that it was no person. It ran on hands and feet, totally naked, its skin a pale, lifeless white color. It turned its head towards the lights of the snowmobiles briefly. I saw a hairless creature with skin that clung tightly to its simian body, its lips permanently pulled back from its mouth as if they were eaten away. Underneath it showed mottled black and red gums covered in thick, clotted blood. Its nose appeared as little more than two irregular holes, and its eyes- they reflected the light of the snowmobiles, like the eyes of a raccoon or opossum. They were huge and sunken in its starving, monstrous face.
And I saw what was leaving the bloody trails. The creature was, as far as I could tell, totally uninjured. In its permanently grinning mouth, between rows of crooked, sharp, blood-stained teeth, it held the body of an infant. The baby’s head lolled from side to side, the neck seemingly broken, and blood dripped constantly from its mouth and nose. It had deep puncture marks in its tiny parka, half-rings of teeth marks that must have broken its ribs. The bloodstains on the snow were becoming fainter, because the heart was no longer pumping in the body of the one leaving them.
I had a loaded rifle inside my snowmobile, and kept a 12-gauge shotgun slung around my back, mostly in case of bear or moose attack. I always kept the shotgun loaded with slugs, which were, in my experience, the most versatile ammunition for stopping any large animal. The .308 might take down a polar bear, at least with a good headshot, or it might just piss it off on a bad day. But a shotgun slug to the head or heart will stop any bear or moose in its tracks.
Of course, this was no polar bear ahead of me. For all I knew, it was something far worse. I looked down at the speedometer to see I was going twenty miles an hour, in the dark, in a blizzard. And yet this strange humanoid creature was still losing us, its seemingly never-ending store of energy still sending it forward at a superhuman speed. Its pale, bony legs and arms pumped back and forth so fast that they were just a blur. It kept its sharp teeth around the nape of the dead infant’s neck, like a mother cat carrying its young.
I kept one hand on the steering wheel while trying to free the strap of my shotgun over my head. I slowed down below twenty, and the creature responded by going even faster. It was making a break for the mountain forests that started only a few hundred feet away. I got the gun free and quickly stopped the snowmobile and raised it. I centered the sights, taking a deep breath to steady myself, and fired.
I missed, though I don’t know by how much. Shotguns had the drawback of being significantly less accurate at further distances than the rifle. But by the time I got the .308 out, I knew the creature would have long since disappeared in the thick brush and trees. By this point, Ace had also stopped and opened fire, but the creature had already gone.
“God damn!” Ace screamed. “That was one fast motherfucker. I can’t believe he got away after all that.” I heaved a deep sigh.
“I think we better go find out where he got that baby from,” I said. “We might have a lot more corpses on our hands than we realize.”
***
We found a radio in the snowmobile and messaged in what had happened, or at least the basic gist of it. I left out the part about naked, half-human abominations, and said that it was an unknown animal. There wasn’t much law enforcement up in these parts, because, hell, there were barely any people. The rangers as well as fish and wildlife agents regularly worked with the police officers in small towns, at least those that had police officers. Dozens of the local tribal villages had no police at all. These people would come to forest rangers and fish and wildlife agents most of all, and were always some of the county’s friendliest and most helpful residents.
By the time we got back to the original blood-stained footprints, the snow had covered up the tracks completely. However, based on the direction that the creature had been going and where the tracks had come from, I thought I knew where it might have started. Following the path in a nearly straight line led to the Lutna Peak Trailer Park. Ace and I drove off at max speed across the rolling hills and flat plains, the snow coming faster and heavier now. They say eskimos have dozens of words for snow, and after being a ranger up here, I can say I’ve seen every variation of it a thousand times. This was turning into the kind that was wet with huge flakes and tended to stick to everything. We would probably have to find refuge soon, especially if it got any heavier.
I heard the screaming before I saw the commotion. As we came around the sharp right turn where the dirt road turned into the trailer park, I saw dozens of people out, flitting like gnats around one of the trailers at the back corner of the park. All of the lights were on in that particular trailer, and I saw one woman comforting another who was bent over and crying.
Even though almost everyone knew us here, I pulled out my badge identifying me as a federal law enforcement officer. Up here, all the rangers were technically federal agents, allowed to carry guns and make arrests like typical police, except we were licensed under the Department of the Interior rather than under state law enforcement agencies.
I ran into the trailer, and after one long glance around the place, I knew there was no need to call for any ambulances. Ace followed close behind me, his heavy, thudding footsteps shaking the trailer slightly as he ascended the steps. We said nothing for a long moment. The entire family was dead.
There was blood everywhere, even spotting the ceilings. Most of it had frozen in the cold, and I wondered how long the door had been left open. Body parts were scattered across the floor, an arm in the corner of the room, a head standing up on the kitchen counter, even a random tooth embedded into the sheetrock. The savagery was brutal, and the amount of strength required to carry out such an attack must have been extraordinary.
“I think we’re going to need a lot more people on this than just me and you,” Ace said. I nodded, already bone-tired, and with so much more work to do tonight before I could go to sleep.
We phoned both state and federal authorities in the area. Since much of the land was tribally owned, we had to deal with multiple branches. Eventually we got CSI out there in the middle of a snowstorm, though they had to come from over three hours away. We just secured the scene while we waited, constantly being brought into neighboring trailers where townsfolk would tell us the latest gossip. They also brought us hot coffee and tried to milk us for any information we might have, as they usually did in such situations.
“No, Maggie, honest,” Ace was saying to one old lady wrapped up in an ancient fur coat, “I don’t know any more about it than you do. You can be sure that you’d know if I did.” By that point, police cars were slowly pulling in, one by one. Ace and I told them a simplified version of the night’s events, said goodnight and left the scene to them. I went home and took a scalding hot shower, trying to force the night’s coldness out of my bones. Then I slept deeply, though I had nightmares of that creature’s face turning to me, holding a dead baby in its mouth and marking me with its emotionless, reflective eyes. I didn’t know it then, but that would be the last time I would sleep in a bed for many days.
***
The state police assigned us an officer the next day, stating they wanted an official representative of their interests involved in the case. It was, by this point, a fairly high-priority case. We didn’t even have many assaults or robberies up here, less likely murders, and the murder of an entire family really stirred up the locals. The fact that the CSI techs couldn’t make heads or tails of it made it even worse. They hadn’t even agreed on whether it was done by humans or animals or a combination of the two, like men with fighting dogs who went berserk. With no leads, they wanted us to go back to where we had seen the creature the previous night and see what we could find.
The police officer who would be tagging us, a woman named Officer Melinda Jansen, had the look of someone who just started a new job, and doesn’t realize how terrible it is yet. She was all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and when she shook my hand, she nearly crushed the bones together under her iron grip. I saw Ace wince slightly when he shook her hand too. When she turned her back, he looked at me with one eyebrow raised, as if he were saying, “What can you do?”
It didn’t take us long to find the spot from the previous night. When we got close to the forest where the creature disappeared, I saw a branch that had been hit by a shotgun blast, and knew we were right on the money. In the daytime, I saw that there was a slight, curving trail through the trees here, maybe an old deer trail. It was just wide enough for us to take our snowmobiles through if we went slow. Occasionally, I would have to get off, being in the lead, and move large branches that lay across the path, but overall it was faster going than I had expected.
The trail followed across the top of a rolling hill, went down and then spiraled up around a mountain. We were high now, at least 7,000 feet above sea level, and the view went for hundreds of miles. It was breath-taking, seeing the frozen white landscape below us, mountains lining one horizon and the Arctic Ocean on another. A couple hundred feet ahead of us, however, the trail just stopped. I saw an opening in the mountain. Slowly bringing my snowmobile up, I looked into it and saw what looked like naturally-formed stone hallways.
The halls sloped down at a steep angle without stairs. An eerie silence radiated from the gradually thickening darkness. The other two snowmobiles cut out right behind mine, and Officer Jansen came walking up, flicking on her LED headlamp. Immediately, I saw a strip of light blue cloth. I walked forward, bending down to confirm what I had already suspected: that this was a piece of the missing infant’s clothing.
“That looks like more than enough cause to me. Let’s do this,” Jansen said. “I’d like to be back before sundown.” She kept walking without waiting for confirmation. Ace and I slung on our packs and turned on our headlamps. I tried using the radios and sat-phone to share our location, but neither was working. The bright, artificial lights showed that the natural stone walls of the hall just kept on descending into the mountain. A warm breeze blew past me, an acrid, sulfuric smell following in its wake.
“This is just a body recovery mission at this point,” I whispered to Ace, giving Officer Jansen a wide space so I could talk. “So why are we potentially risking our lives here? We should be waiting for back-up. We both know that the infant is dead, and has been for a while.”
“You know what I think…” Ace whispered conspiratorially, before a low shriek stopped us all in our tracks and ended conversation. I never did get to hear what he thought. By this point, it was much warmer than it had been outside, and I had the urge to start stripping off jackets. The shrieking had intensified, and was now being answered by dozens of others that surrounded further away in the stone halls.
Officer Jansen had pulled out her gun, which I saw with some astonishment was a .454 Ruger, a large caliber gun with good stopping power. I saw enough magazines strapped around her hips to decimate an entire herd of buffalo. I also pulled off my shotgun, making sure it was filled with lead slugs.
“Do you have any idea what we’re up against?” I asked her. Ace was right behind us, his shotgun already cocked and loaded, the muzzle pointed downwards. I was sweating heavily by this point. The air in the tunnel just kept getting warmer. It felt like I was walking into a sauna. Thin clouds of mist and droplets of hot condensation clung to the smooth granite ceilings. The hall continued to descend at the same steep rate, but now I could see something at the bottom: light.
“Not much more than you, really,” Officer Jansen said with a slight sneer. “My only advice is to shoot first and ask questions later. Kill anything that moves. This place has taken a lot of people already, people who were too fat and slow to watch their own backs…” I squinted as I examined the lights. They seemed to emanate from some sort of organism growing on the stone’s surface.
It wasn’t electrical lights, and it certainly wasn’t natural sunlight. It glowed like the lights of millions of fireflies, a purplish-blue color that painted the granite floors and walls in a totally different light. We were walking as quietly as possible by this point, but I still hadn’t seen anyone. We reached the bottom of the stone halls, where strange mushrooms glowed in the darkness, their mycelium giving off that black-light color everywhere as it stretched across the threshold of the opening. I turned off my LED, seeing my comrades do the same, then poked my head through, looking back and forth.
I saw more of those creatures from before, their lips missing, their skin pale, their eyes huge and rabid. They constantly twisted and snapped their heads to the left or right, as if hearing something only they could perceive. Two were dragging an elk that had been mutilated and torn down the middle. Another was dragging an old man’s dead body forward by the upraised legs. I saw the old man’s head was missing, his wrinkled hands trailing behind the body. I watched where all this activity was headed, then I gasped.
A huge, insectile monster sat lazily against the stone wall as these creatures brought it meat. The monster was so fat that I wasn’t even sure it could stand up. It had a blood-red, chitinous exterior with a hood like a rattlesnake’s that extended around its head. Its teeth trembled together constantly as it shoved more gory offerings into its mouth, sending blood gushing forwards in thick clotted rivulets that dripped down its chin. Its long, thin arms had sharp knife-like digits, and its six legs branched like those of a praying mantis, splayed out on each side of its body, shining a dark red color in the strange light of the chamber. Its belly stretched far in front of its body, and with horror, I saw it drop a cluster of eggs, each as big as a dog. Their surfaces writhed and trembled, looking tight and ready to burst at any moment.
The creatures that fed and cared for this monster rushed over, dragging the eggs to the corner of the warm chamber. I saw that there were dozens more of them over there, and that some had already hatched.
Whatever that monster was, it had already given birth, and now those things were walking around, totally free to kill anything, or anyone, they wanted.

2023.06.01 19:49 ddelta9 looking for expert in QWET etc
I've recently adopted the Quick Wash Ethanol (QWET) extraction method for cannabis, and I must say, it's been a game-changer. However, I've run into a few questions that I can't seem to find answers to online, and even my trusty AI, ChatGPT, is stumped. I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on my queries.
Here's my current process: I start with 4oz of 20% flower, which I freeze, along with 500ml of 99% food-grade alcohol. After decarbing my flower, I transfer it into a large mason jar. I then slowly pour the alcohol over the flower, gently stirring before placing it in the freezer for 5 minutes. This is followed by a 1-2 minute shake. I repeat this process two more times for a total of three cycles.
Next, I pour the mixture through a large sieve to remove the bulk of the plant matter. This usually results in about 250ml of liquid, which strikes me as a significant loss of alcohol. I then filter this liquid through coffee filters a few times until I'm satisfied with the clarity. At first I discarded the remaining 4oz of plant material, assuming it was usless. I then started to wonder if there were still cannabinoids left in the remaining 250ml of alcohol. So, on my next run, I added an additional 500ml of alcohol to the spent plant material and left it in the freezer for an hour before filtering again. This second strain didn't have a strong cannabis taste, which was my goal. It was still golden, albeit slightly darker in larger volumes, and yielded an additional 500ml. I've since left it in a jar as I'm unsure of its potency.
here are my questions:
What should the potency be for my first strain (250ml) and my second strain (500ml)?
Is this the best method to extract 95% of the cannabinoids? If not, could you suggest an alternative?
If there isn't a foolproof way to extract 95% of the cannabinoids, is there an affordable and straightforward method to test my tincture?
I'm based in New Zealand, so I'm open to making a larger batch and sending a small sample overseas for testing, provided it's a reliable source.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

2023.06.01 19:25 kkkkk420420 Have lots of misc boat questions
I am looking to buy my first boat. Going to pay all cash - looking for a used boat preferably under $6k. I know this doesn’t get me anything shiny or fancy but I live in MN and there’s endless boats for sale. I’d love to hear advise or recommendations on a good style/brand/length/etc etc.
- I have 2 kids age 9&10, and 2 dogs. I want to bring a few people on the boat. Don’t care about fishing but maybe once in awhile?
- I’ll be trailering it every time I want to use it and storing it in my garage
- My SUV has a 4500lb max tow capacity
- I’ve launched a boat a few times in my life - I want one easy to launch and take out and hopefully easy to back into my garage although I know this is 100% skill based.
- Leaning towards pontoon but see concern 4 as well as concern 2
- What is an appropriate size motor for such a boat? We will be cruising, maybe tubing.
- I know the boat brand matters less than the motor brand - any reliability recs? Mariner Honda Evinrude seem most popular.
- Stained or damaged seats don’t bother me as much as rotting floor or dents in the outside. What are major red flags to look for?
Thanks all - appreciate any advice you could give me! I also know what BOAT stands for. I have money to maintain it but obviously want to avoid a true money pit.

2023.06.01 19:09 MeowFat3 31[M4F]WA - Looking for my person
Hiya!
I'm a 31M and a recent transplant to Washington! I sincerely love it up here, the weather, the people, the scenery and nature. That said, I left friends and family behind to get out and start a new chapter in my life, and so far so good! So, why am I here? Well, I work from home so getting out there can be hard sometimes - not to mention the dating apps are bleh.
A little about me:
- I do archery pretty regularily, my goal is to compete in barebow someday
- I work (remotely) in the video game industry! Yes I play games too, but dont worry because
- I spend as much time outdoors as I can. Hiking is a big favorite, and theres so much to do in washington.
- I love being out on the water. Like motor boating, sailing, kayaking, etc.
- I enjoy watching anime. Some of my favorites are Samurai Champloo, IGPX, DemonSlayer, SpyxFamily (season 1 was best lol), Eureka7, and many more. I went to my first anime convention last year! I'd love to go to more.
- I like to travel.
- I like pizza.
- I've been reading the wheel of time series recently. Its... fun. Im not convinced its as hyped as everyone says it is though.
And theres lots more, of course 😁
I do wanna say, I've been going to the gym consistently for a while now - I'm on a fitness journey, and I'd like for someone to join me in that. I'm not attracted to overweight or physically lazy - sorry :/
Looks wise, I'm 5'11 and 185lbs, long blond hair with blue eyes and a light beard - very viking
Reddit chat please! Hope to hear from ya!

2023.06.01 19:04 flouncingsnape Life in the Valley Perfume Collection Is Available! (Inspired by Stardew Valley)
Hello everybody!! My Life in the Valley collection, which has been 10 months in the works, is finally
live on Morari! Here are the notes and descriptions for each scent:
Salmonberry Season Notes: Freshly-picked salmonberries, foliage, petrichor, daffodils, morel mushrooms
Description: This perfume oil is inspired by the springtime foreagables in Stardew Valley. I like to imagine that this is what my farmer would smell like when they get home after a long day out in the Cindersap Forest.
Salmonberry Season opens with the tart, juicy smell of fresh salmonberries, alongside vibrant green foliage. As it blooms on your skin, a heady floral emerges: daffodils. Petrichor and morel mushrooms linger in the background.
Funny story – prior to making this perfume, I’d never smelled a salmonberry before, and they don’t grow where I live. I ordered some salmonberry jam from Alaska & held spoonfuls in my mouth while I worked, until what I was smelling matched what was in my mouth. And then I added some greener materials to make it smell like a fresh berry, rather than jam. If you’ve never smelled or tasted a salmonberry, it’s sort of like a cross between a tomato and a raspberry. Very unusual, and so yummy!
Eat My Dust, Abby Notes: Chocolate, lollipops, sweaty skin, the sweet smell of victory (a straw hat)
Description: This perfume oil is inspired by the Easter Egg Hunt in Stardew Valley. I don’t know about you, but it always enraged me when Abigail would win EVERY SINGLE TIME! I swore my vengeance year after year, until I’d finally mapped out the perfect path to swoop up as many eggs as possible. I reveled in the prize – that glorious straw hat, earned through my farmer’s blood, sweat, and tears. This scent rubs my farmer’s victory in Abby’s (admittedly beautiful) face.
It opens with a blast of chocolate candy, quite similar to the Tootsie Roll note in my seasonal “Day After Halloween” perfume. As the chocolate starts to abate, a delicious fruity lollipop emerges, which makes up the bulk of the scent’s weartime. Underneath it all is a slightly animalic musky note, alongside an accord I crafted for a straw hat (a combination of hay absolute, dry grass essence, and some other dry, earthy, slightly green materials).
Meadow Waltz Notes: Tulips, crisp petticoats, cherry blossom petals, dandelion fluff, dew-laden grass
Description: This perfume oil is inspired by the Flower Dance that takes place every spring. Let’s say that this particular scent is grabbed from the second year of the game (I can never get anybody to dance with me in the first year, and that’s too depressing to think about, hehe). So, Spring of Year 2: your farmer is standing across from a special someone (read: Leah), waltzing merrily through the meadow. Cherry blossom petals and dandelion fluff float through the air, lending an ethereal floral note. The floral note is deepened further with a tulip accord - a little green, a little powdery, a little honeyed. The grass beneath your feet is damp with dew, and its green smell perfectly balances the cottony smell of the dancers’ freshly starched petticoats.
Summed up, this is a very fresh, aldehydic, “clean” scent that leans toward soapy, but it’s pulled away from feeling too synthetic with the complex floral accords.
Midnight Market Notes: Salty sea air, black coffee, seashells, algae-covered docks, pearl musk
Description: This perfume oil is inspired by Stardew Valley’s Night Market, which takes place every Winter. As your farmer steps onto the creaky pier, the sights dazzle your eyes – mysterious merchants selling amazing wares upon their docked boats, a turbaned figure providing strong, black coffee, and beautiful lights strung up everywhere. A salty sea breeze tickles your nose, mingling with the earthy aroma of seashells and the algae-covered dock wood. You’re holding a cup of coffee in your hands, made from freshly ground beans; the smell is divine. You catch a whiff of a pearlescent musk… you think it might be coming from the Mermaid Show boat.
Out of all the perfumes in the collection, this one took me the longest to complete. Not just because the Night Market is my favorite event in Stardew Valley, but because it was hard to toe the line between wearable and experimental. Many failed versions teetered on the side of “smells super interesting, but I could never wear this outside of the house.” This final version, though, has a beautiful balance between the more experimental notes (algae & seashells) and the familiar coffee and musky notes.
Please note that this perfume contains Choya Nakh, which is derived from seashells. No marine life is harmed in the making of Choya Nakh, but it is technically an animal-derived ingredient, so I wanted to disclose that.
Am I the Baddie? Notes: Joja Cola fished out of the river, smoke and ash from a burning valley
Description: If you’ve ever taken the Joja route, this perfume is for you. Tsk, tsk. The river is clogged with cans of cloyingly sweet Joja Cola, and smoke and ash linger in the air. The Cindersap Forest is being cleared out, to make room for a Joja Corp office building. The very life you sought to escape has infiltrated the valley.
Just a little note…. I’ve put 500+ hours into Stardew Valley. I have 200 mods, some of which do some very ridiculous things, but I’ve never taken the Joja route, hehe. Not to shame you or anything ;)

Thank you for checking this out! <3

2023.06.01 18:31 Sketchy_Troll Trolling motor Thoughts
I have a 2020 Bayliner Dx 2250. Weight approx 3500lbs. 22 feet long. Really an all purpose/family boat, but i spend most of my time fishing. Tired of having to turn motor on every few casts and reposition boat. So i’m thinking of getting a trolling motor but curious if my boat is too big/not the right type/etc for a trolling motor. My only real desire is to have it hold me in place. I don’t expect speed or even true trolling, but would be nice to have the boat be able to stay in one spot for a good period of time.
thanks for any advice.

2023.06.01 18:16 Jumpy-Candy3683 GI/ Stomach Issues after quitting weed
Hey everyone,
I have been weed free for over three weeks now, and have been feeling mostly great. Clearer mind, better short term memory, motor skills functioning properly etc. One thing I’ve noticed that is unpleasant is GI/ Stomach upset. Diarrhea, bloating and bouts of discomfort burgeoning on pain have been really bothering me. I know these can be withdrawal symptoms, but all of my other withdrawals have almost entirely subsided so I’m getting concerned. One of the reasons I decided to stop smoking was because it was messing with my stomach, but now it actually feels worse after stopping. I had blood tests looking for GI issues last year and nothing came up.
It’s worth noting that I was a daily user of almost ten years and had been smoking since 14. Also the last 6 months was heavy wax vape use which is usually 80 - 90% THC, I was getting through a gram cart in two days.
I am aware that cannabis can ease/ slow the growth of ulcers and tumors and my anxious mind is running amok making me think the worst. My symptoms aren’t unbearable, but it’s hard to remind myself that when I am in a panic.
My question for you folks is, did or are you experiencing something similar? Are my symptoms to be expected or is this a cause for concern? I’ve also been improving my diet by cutting out fried/ processed/ sugary foods as well as coffee and alcohol.
Thank you!

2023.06.01 16:27 blackmalt Can a V60 with a Gabi Master B diffusion screen brew a good cup with no agitation or stirring?
I'm planning to do cupping-like comparisons (of beans and grinders) using 3x 1-cup V60 drippers and 3x Gabi Master B diffusion screens. I'm trying to find a method that's as consistent and repeatable as possible, but that still brews a good cup. Agitation by pouring, swirling and stirring are all not that repeatable, so I probably want to avoid them.
What inspired me to use a dispersion screen is
this video by the The Coffee Chronicler, where he uses 2-cup V60 drippers and Hario Drip Assist diffusion screens to compare three grinders. Unfortunately the Hario Drip Assist doesn't sit straight on the 1-cup V60, which is why I opted to get the Gabi Master B.
Any suggested recipes that focus on consistency?

2023.06.01 15:41 hell-schwarz Don't know what to do until launch? - Let's talk about mealprepping:
As I'm writing this there are still about 10 hours left until Diablo IV launches in my region. But I can use that time for something I haven't done before: Preparing meals so I don't need to order Takeouts or live from snacks and microwave food.
My Plan is to have enough meals until Monday/Tuesday, so I will prepare the following:
- 1 Pot of Curry
- 1 Pot of Rice
- 1 Bowl of Tiramisu
- 1 Bowl of Salad
- 1 Banana breads
- Some stuff for Breakfast and Snacks in between.
Curry:
This takes about an hour to make. That's why we start with this. You need:
- Curry mix (I use Golden curry but there might be other brands in your Region)
- about 500g of Meat (I use Beef, Goulash fit's pretty well here)
- about 350g Onions
- 3 Medium sized Potatoes
- 3-4 Carrots
- about 600 ml water or broth
- some vegetable oil
And these secret ingredients:
- 1 Tablespoon of Apricot Jam
- 2 cl Worcester Sauce
- 20g Dark chocolate (I use 85% cocoa)
Step 1: Chop the Onions into rings. No need to be precise, you aren't Gordon Ramsay. Take a big pot and heat some oil. Then roast the meat until it's slightly brown and place it on a Plate/Tray. Now place the onions in the same pot and fry them until at least slightly brown or further (to your liking). Then fill the pot with 600ml of Watebroth and put the meat back in, leave it on medium heat. Set a timer to 40 minutes. Now you have time to peel and chop the potatoes and Carrots (should take you about 10 minutes). Add them to your Water with meat and onions.
Step 2: If the 40 min are over you should test if the meat is tender. If it's not, leave it for about 10 more minutes. If it is, reduce the heat and add the curry mix to the pot. Let it simmer for about 5 more minutes and you're done. UNLESS you want to try my secret ingredients - if you do, add them, too and stir until the chocolate is completely melted.
The cooking time depends a lot on which type of meat you use, some need more and some need less time cooking.
CURRY DONE - it gets tastier after a day in the fridge, so this is perfect. An alternative to Curry would be a pot of goulash, but I prefer curry.
Pot of Rice
Step 1: Cook rice.
Step 2: you're done. Unless you don't know how to cook rice, in that case: Long grain rice needs double the amount of water, short grain rice needs the same amout of water. So if you use long grain you take a cup or some container and fill it with rice, add it to a pot, then you fill it with water, add that to the same pot and then you fill it with water again and add it to the same pot. If you want to make double of that amount... well I guess you can figure it out. I advise you to fill it with rice first, since if you start with water the grains will stick to whatever container you used. With short grain rice (also known as "sushi" rice) you only add as much water as you added rice (in volume). Then you heat it until the water boils and leave it on medium to low heat until the water is either evaporated or sucked up by the rice.
Or you use a Rice cooker and follow the instructions there.
Tiramisu
This is probably the most complicated recipe on this list, but it's tasty.
You need
- 750g Mascarpone
- 300g "Ladyfingers" (google said that's the correct translation, they are these things )
- 1,5 cups of coffee
- 75g Sugar
- 1/2 cup of Amaretto
- 4 Eggs
- cocoa powder
Step 1 Seperate the eggs into yolks and whites. Mix the Yolks and amaretto. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the sugar until stiff. Mix the Mascarpone with the Egg yellow/Amaretto. Then carefully add the egg whites.
Step 2 Now you take the container for the tiramisu (A caserole for example) and add layers of ladyfingers and mascarpone, starting with the ladyfingers. Dipp them in coffee, but don't let them get soggy. Then add a layer of mascarpone. repeat until you're satisfied or out of ingredients, usually 4 layers (2 of each) are enough.
Sprinkle the top layer with cocoa powder and put it into the fridge.
Salad
This is very quick, my salad contains these ingredients:
- 1 cucumber
- 3 Tomatoes
- 1/2 cup of green olives
- 1/2 cup of black olives
- 2 spring onions
- 100g of feta cheese
- 1/2 Pomgranade
Preparation Wash and chop the ingredients and add them to a container with a lid. Do not add oil, salt or vinegar yet - they will damage the veggies and they'll get soggy quickly. Add them shortly before you want to eat the salad.
Banana Bread
This is an easy recipe, you can make it while you wait for the curry to finish to save time.
- 300g flour
- 80g Honey
- 3 ripe Bananas
- 6 Table Spoons grated coconut
- pinch of salt
- 1 Table Spoon baking powder
- 1 table spoon Vanillin Sugar
- Cinamon to taste
- 200g nuts (whatever is available in your area, I use hazelnuts, almonds and walnuts)
- as many nuts as you need for topping, I used 100g hazelnuts
- 450ml Coconut milk
- 50ml Water
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
Mix together and bake for 45 min at 175 °C in a convection oven
Breakfast
I bought 4x500 ml of Quark and will mix it with Cherrys and some seeds. This mixture is rich in protein and fiber, so it is a good breakfast for anyone who isn't lactose intolerant.
I also bought some Nuts, peanuts and dried fruit as healthy snacks.
And don't forget to hydrate.

2023.06.01 15:16 Knotty83 A rock bottom story
| Minor trigger warning for the NEWLY SOBER What follows is a humorous mostly true account of a tough day I had in Amsterdam whilst still an active alcoholic. Some leaps of logic have been made as my memory of the time is not how you would say “perfect” and some events have been streamlined for ease of storytelling. I’m posting to hopefully make you smile, and to remind myself of just how far i have come in my sobriety journey. https://preview.redd.it/odjwlxbmpe3b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ede6fefeed4bd179e068be0e229df74775ef6f18 “HEY!” Oh god, why does consciousness always hit like a ton of bricks “HEY!” The world hurts Today, what did I do last night?I can taste vomit,How much did I drink? Why am I wet? “HEY!” Oh man my head “GET OFF OF MY BOAT” I wish that man would stop yelling……Did he say boat? Cautiously I opened my eyes, the painful rays of light make the throbbing in my head worse. The man doing the yelling, is a big bearded man who in any other circumstance would have had a kindly face. “Excuse me” I manage to squeeze past my aching vocal cords. “Oh good” the man exclaims with a heavy dutch accent “He’s not dead”“Daisy, Nee”(no) He says to a young woman brandishing a bucket of water standing next to me. She reluctantly relaxes from her attacking position. I try a smile, it makes my face hurt, so i go back to painless bewildered look. Using all of my strength I squeeze out “Where am I?” “In Amsterdam” he responds “Now hop it” Amsterdam? But that’s miles from my sisters. I need more information, how did I get here? What day is it? Why is the floor rocking? I sum all these questions up into an eloquent sentence, fix the man with my best steely look ready myself to speak and …proceed to throw up in his potted daffodils. The man looks to the woman “Doe Het” SPLOOSH the bucket of water is as refreshing as it is painful. “Now get off my damn boat” The woman has grabbed a mop and is pushing me towards the edge.I clutch my side and roll over, staggering onto my feet. I hop off the boat and onto the footpath, steadying myself on a bicycle.I try to stand upright but find hunching hurts much less. Seeing a sign that points towards Amsterdamn central train station I start to hobble in that direction. It hurts to breath but each fresh lung full of air hits me like a healing wind. “Its going to be ok” I tell myself. Stopping next to a cafe I lean my arm against the window to keep my balance. For the first time that day I get a grips of my reflection.I’m not wearing a shirt?! What the hell, I’ve got a chipped tooth and have bruises everywhere. Was I in a fight? What the hell happened. Looking past my reflection and into the cafe I see a Well dressed woman on the other side of the glass trying to enjoy a morning tea and crumpets. I try smiling (ouch) I should really stop that. The sight of food make my stomach do a somersault, I’m not sure if I’m Hungary or about to throw up again. I wave the lady goodbye and make my way towards the station. I watch a child walk past me eating some mayonnaise chips, she dumps the half finished packet in a bin, bearing no care for my surroundings I dive into the bin after the food. I throw a few of the greasy salty chips in my mouth…… Moments later I return them to the bin covered in a second wave of vomit. The station is only a few hundred meters but it feels like a marathon. Flashes of the night before go through my head, Beers, shots, Schnapps Toilets, Vomiting, Kebabs I make it to the station, I spend far too much time trying to focus on the big clock…. I think its 0930 in the morning. For the first time I think about my phone. My hand shoots to my pocket. OF COURSE my phone will have the answers!!! I pull it out, wipe the water from the front, it is, of course dead. Filled with a new purpose I look around for a solution. A waiter is taking chairs off tables at the Cafe Loetje. I run / hobble over to him and in my incredibly broken dutch including several miss used words of French and some German try to communicate id like a phone charger. He says in perfect English “We open in half an hour, but shirts are normally a requirement for service” I try a smile, It hurts, i go back to looking pitiful I must have looked a complete shambles as his resolve soon crumbled, “Sit at the table in the corner” he said. I fall into a chair in the corner and lean back My chest is killing me. A plane flies over head, this seems important but I can’t put my finger on why. The waiter walks over to me with a charger a t shirt and a coffeeI don’t remember asking for the coffee but I reach into my pocket pulling out €1.50 I hold it out hopefully. “Don’t worry party man, this ones on me, just do me a favour and put a shirt on” I thank the waiter , I watch him as he goes back to the counter and gets money out of the tip jar to pay for my coffee, a pang of guilt hits me. I plug my phone in The screen lights up!, At least its not broken. I sip at the coffee and feel the sun on my face while the phone charges enough to boot up.These old buildings are really pretty, maybe ill move here one day. Under any other circumstances this would be a beautiful morning. The phone dings and dings AND DINGS.So many angry messages, so many confused messages, from strangers, from people I haven’t thought of in years though have apparently been messaging while blacked out. Too many to go through, ill apologise to them all later. I just need to find out where my stuff is. I swipe closed the multiple texting apps and open my email. Scrolling past the online check in for my flight tomorrow I find my hotel reservation. Nice looking place, cheap enough, about 1.2km away. Ill sit here until my hangover recedes a little more, wit the coffee an the sun, then ill wander back and crash for a bit, Ill come back tonight and return this waiters shirt. Maybe take him out for a drink to repay his kindness. The phone dings again. Mum “Great to see you on Monday, Have a good flight” Monday? Weird way for her to talk about yesterday and she got my flight wrong its not till tomorrow. The bottom of my stomach falls out. I run up to the counter and try to get the waiters attention. “Hey, Um, What day is it?”“Chill out party man, its Wednesday” Wednesday!!! But I went out for a drink on Monday night! Wednesday I have a flight Wednesday afternoon! FUCKING WEDNESDAY! I glance up at the clock, 10:30! If my flights at 1pm I need to be at the airport by 12 absolute latest,I should go get on a train. But my stuff is at this hotel. (I hope) I throw the water his charger and start to RUN my phon on 28% battery guiding the way. Trying to do the maths in my head. The hotel is 1.2 km away , I could run that in 10 min. But that’s sober and I feel like I’m about to die. Oh fuck it just run. You idiot. Exhausted, I find the hotel, 12 flights of stairs to the lobby and 5 more to my room. These old building can suck my dick, I get to the check in desk. My stuff is in a pile in front of it. “I’m sorry” I blurt out. The cashier gives me a dirty look and holds out a credit card machine €150. Miraculously my emergency credit card and passport are in my suitcase. Lacking the time or ability to argue the charges I tap the card and pray that it will go through. Ding , it’s accepted. Thank the old gods and the new. The cashier holds out a receipt, I snatch ti and grab my suitcase and throw it down the 12 flights of stairs. Apologies to the U11’s soccer team that we’re making their way up. Back on the street I check my phone, 18% battery 11:03 A train leaves for the airport in 27 min……RUN Dragging my suitcase through the cobbled streets of Amsterdam,I run to the station. As I pass the cafe, unable to breath I pull off the t shirt leant to me by the waiter and throw it at him. “Merci” I yell. That was French you idiot, AND he speaks English. No time to explain, get on that train. I drag the my suitcase into the station, tap my credit card and run to the platform. As I set foot on the train the doors close behind me.Collapsing into a seat I grab a shirt from my bag then open my emails and check into my flight, 8% phone battery. The train gets to the airport and I head over to digital check in and get through security. I get through security, random bomb check (of course) then head over to my gate. THANK GOD THERES A BAR I have ten minutes till boarding, time for a swift drink I order two pints and a shot, finish them with time to spare so order another pint. I fix her with my most charming smile. It hurts, I should really stop doing that. Get onto the flight, stinking of booze and puke, Pass out sleeping on a broken rib and multiple bruises. Get back to Australia get the cab home to stop at the bottle shop, don’t get any food. Get home cry drink through the pain. This is NOT my rock bottom story. It would take me 3 more years to admit I had a drinking problem and another 2 to actually take action. I am currently 1296 days (or 3 1/2 years) sober and my life couldn’t be more different.I’m married, have a daughter, and a job that I love. I still get stressed, and sad on occasion but don’t drink to deal with the demons any more. If you’re on day 1 or day 1000 of sobriety or you’re just sober curious know that you are loved , I believe in you and I’m glad you’re here. 2023.06.01 14:29 Melted_INC How many of you got HPPD from only Weed specifically Edibles?
I want to hear from people who may have a similar experience to me on the onset of HPPD
I did high concentration THC weed brownies from October-Feb 2023 this was the only drug i took in conjunction with this drug i at times had very large doses of caffeine which i used to stay up all the time and avoid sleep (Idiotic i know)
In Feb 2023 i came down with a ‘hallow feeling’ in my skull that was then paired with severe visual snow, sensitivity to light, strong floaters, intense colours and depersonalisation
Ive been battling hard in conjunction with strong commitment to sobriety including no coffee or sugar and have seen a great deal of progress i also took sumatriptan which is used to treat migraine and got almost instant relief from my head and eye pressure
Im having more good days then bad now but find it very fascinating that weed is what gave me these symptoms id like to hear from people in similar boats
- how often did you do weed and in what form? Smoking or edibles?
- what type of high did you have? For eg my highs were very visual in that my brain felt like it was ‘dreaming’ and i was able to view them in real time i guess a ‘psychedelic experience’
- did you ever feel like you were doing damage to yourself when you did weed?
- what is your attitude of weed and weed culture now?
- if you did psychedelics how did they differ to edibles (for people who did both)
Thanks in advance for any responses

- You can’t use more than 18 grams of ground coffee.
- You must present a coffee of at least 150ml.
- You have to brew and present it within 5 minutes.
- 12g beans
- 200ml water
- 100º C water
- 2:00 shake, 2:30-3:00 press.

2023.06.01 12:31 Muduck133 Recipe for bigger brews
I usually make 1 cup brews for myself in my v60 01. Whenever I make bigger brews with my 02, the recipe doesnt scale and it turns out not so good. I tried changing grind size but it never really gets as good as my single cup brews, which is not very good either hehe.
This is my single cup recipe:
12g coffee, 12 clicks on the commandante
0:00 pour 36g water, swirl 0:45 pour to 180g total water, stir
draw down is usually 2-3min
Is there a particular reason this recipe isnt scalable? Do you have any other recipes or variations to this that would work better with bigger brews? Do you have any general tips on my single cup brew?
Thanks a lot :)

2023.06.01 11:01 GoldenThatcher Making Magic Jelly, Tea & More
If you're anything like me, you hate the taste and texture of our friendly shrooms and would rather take them in any other form. As such I have experimented with turning our trips into a tasty, not only trippy, experience.
Making Tea To achieve my goals I began with the technique of making Tea and adapted it. The simple steps for a tea and our basis for our snacks are as follows:
- Crush / grind your mushrooms.
- Place into hot BUT NOT BOILLING water, along with your tea.
- Stir intermittently for 5-10 minutes.
- Strain the liquid, as many times as desired, I usually do 2/3 times.
- Drink on up.
Magic Water Now this strategy works quite well, but isn't ideal for turning into other forms. Primarily for making jelly, this wont be hot enough to melt the gelatine. Therefore my steps for infused water are as follows.
- Crush / grind your mushrooms.
- Using a pot, bring some water to below simmering. You should see some whisps of steam but if its bubbling you risk losing potency.
- Add in your mushrooms and stir for 5-10 minutes, making sure to not heat up the water too much.
- Strain your liquid several times.
Magic Jelly At the end of these steps you should have a discoloured liquid with relatively few bits. From here you can take several routes, I will describe how I carried on to make Jelly.
- Once again warm up the liquid to below simmering.
- Add in your cubes/powder of gelatine and stir until dissolved.
- Pour into a suitable jelly container.
- Add some fruit to taste.
This resulted in a very tasty Jelly that was very pleasant. So good I couldn't even tell it was magic until the trip began! Photos of the endeavour
here.
Your Own Magic The possibilities for what you can turn your
Magic Water into are almost endless. The only requirement is that it has a relatively good water content, hence why Jelly is pretty ideal. But some ideas of what you can turn it into are:
- Tea / Coffee / Hot Chocolate
- Smoothie / Milk Shake
- Jelly / Gummies
- Soup / Sauce? -- I tried magic bolognaise sauce but it was quite heavy on my stomach.
- Rice? -- If the psilocybin survives the boiling, you could have magic rice for a curry?
Ensuring Success No matter what you are making be careful of temperatures! Anything over boiling
WILL harm your potency and I would suggest against even getting close to that. I wouldn't heat them over a light simmer at most.
Be conscious of your desired dosages. The jelly I made had around 12 grams, so I divided it into 6 so each dose would be around 2 grams. Just like any other edibles, the distribution can be uneven and should be respected. Especially with a sweet treat, it can be tempting to take more too soon. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
Some people get nausea during the early stages of ingestion, so be careful with what you select to eat with. Jelly wasn't a problem at all, but magic bolognaise was very heavy on my stomach and I would suggest against.
Summary There's a whole world of possibilities for infusing food and your trips. To do so we must ensure both our active ingredients and ourselves are safe. Be cautious and never do an amount or activity you aren't comfortable with.
That being said, have fun and let me know your experiences along with your suggestions.
Love, GoldenThatcher.
