This is chanceme but without the toxicity! It’s a place where average students can get help and advice for college admissions without constantly being bombarded with humblebraggers who have a 4.0 gpa and 1600 SAT and started 15 nonprofits freaking out about how they won’t get into their 80% acceptance rate state school.

2023.06.07 12:01 Shoddy-Calendar-7031 AITA for picking a college far away from my girlfriend?

I (M18) have been dating my girlfriend (F16) for over a year. She is an incredible person and the best thing that’s ever happened to me. We supported each other through a very difficult situation a year ago, and I truly love her more than I have any girl before.
When it came to applying to colleges, I chose all universities that aren’t too far from our hometown, so that her and I could stay together and be long distance. This included my dream college - that sadly did not accept me.
The problem is that I applied to one more school without telling her, because I didn’t think I’d get in - but I did. It’s an Ivy League school in a really cool city, very far from where we live. Staying together would be a challenge, but it’s my top choice and I can’t not go.
Last night I broke the news to her that I might be going there in September, and she took it really bad - because of the distance and because I hid the application from her. I begged her to stay with me and try long distance but she ended up breaking up with me.
She said she understood why I had to go there and encouraged me to go - she even admitted she’d do the same in my situation, but she also acknowledged it was an impossible choice for her because there was no way she’d be able to deal with the distance.
She has abandonment issues from when her mother left her as a child, and is incredibly hurt that I would leave her too. The only reason I hid the application from her was because I didn’t think I’d get in, and didn’t want to cause her this much pain needlessly.
AITA? I’m heartbroken and overthinking whether I should go there. Thanks

2023.06.07 11:57 StellaStars222 I am so desperate to escape my controlling, racist mother

I (25F) live in California with my mother. If you don’t know, California is a very expensive place to live, so I’ve been taking advantage of the opportunity to live at home whilst going to college. I love school, my grades are great, and eventually, I will collect a degree in psychology and find myself a good paying job. However, while I am still young it’s been my goal to spend my college years traveling and preforming with the Circus. For the past 7 years I’ve had my mind made up to buy myself a truck and trailer and spend a few years with them, for the experience. While I’ve obtained the skills necessary to work in the circus, I haven’t been able to make this a reality for a variety of reasons, but mainly because of my mother deliberately doing everything she can to stop me.
So my mother has always been very opposed to my plan of joining the circus, and she’s done a really good job over the years at making that crystal clear to me through her words and actions (the reason is because she is racist and believes that the people in the Circus are all criminals and shady people. Even though they are literally just acrobats). Her first step in hindering my plans was to buy herself an RV(literally as soon as I asked her if I could buy my own to park in our driveway)- which eliminated the possibility of me buying my own trailer and putting it close enough to my home to work on it. Without anywhere to put an old beat up trailer that I could work on, my only option would be to buy an RV that’s already in livable condition (which I simply could never afford).
Fast forward to last January, I’m starting to feel desperate. I feel like I have no options left but to give up on my dreams, because I can’t make them a reality. I’m extremely depressed, and I try to talk to my mother about it because she recently sold one of the cars and now there is finally space for me to put a trailer. I reached out to her, I was honest and open about how I felt like she’s holding me back from my dreams and I need to do this in order to be happy with my life… She completely shut me down, acted like I was attacking her and wouldn’t even talk about it. She has been stonewalling me ever since (so 6 months now).
Before I attempted to talk to her about the parking space in January, she he had planned to gift me her old car when she bought herself a new one. Well now that she is stonewalling me for the last six months she has decided that she doesn’t think I “should” own a car yet (on the basis that I smoke weed). It’s feels like such a bold attempt at gatekeeping that I can’t even wrap my mind around it. Again, I’m a 25 year old woman. I’m going to get a car when I decide to get one. I feel like this is just another way for her to hold me back in her mind.
Living with a mother that’s this controlling is really starting to hurt my mental health. I honestly have no idea how to get myself out of this situation. I know my first step would be to buy a truck, that way I can haul a trailer somewhere where I can actually work on it. The problem with that is I have no idea how to look for a used truck that’s in good condition, and nobody willing to help me. I think I might have to go to the dealership by myself and just accept the fact that I might get scammed. I wish so bad I had parents who were willing to help me, or at least some adult who knows what they are doing. I’ll take any advice I can get…

2023.06.07 11:40 sampsonite3000 Death of the Casual: How EA has taken the joy out of FUT

My FUT journey started back in FIFA 13. I got it for Christmas, and through YouTube (KSI, W2S, AirJapes, Nepethez, Kazooiee… you name it), I got introduced to the game.
Back then I was just a kid, no credit card or anything like that. Having one IF player made your team elite. Gold Messi/Ronaldo were essentially the same price from Start to End. You could rip a silver squad through Division 1. Cutting back across goal wasn’t called being a rat, it was called being sweaty, and people did it ALL. THE. TIME. You think going down the wing and cutting back is a new phenomenon? Wrong! Don’t believe me, go watch a KSI video from 2012.
Before moving on, let me take you down memory lane…Mayuka, Agbonlahor, Wallyson, Benteke, Pato, Wellinton, Felipe Santana, David Luiz (End Game CB despite being common gold), Akinfenwa, Ramires, Di Natale, Miccoli, Emenike, Kelvin…I could go all day. No SBCs, no Objectives, TOTY was basically the only promo, and there was just one. Skilling was hilarious, finesse shots were broken, near post OP…..it was a pure madness, shithouse game that was fun as all hell and just not. that. serious.
After Fifa 15, life was getting too busy to put time towards the game. So, put FIFA to bed, went to college, got a job, and fast forward 8 years later, I got back into it along with a couple of old friends for nostalgia’s sake. I am lucky enough (lotta hard work to be fair) to have a comfortable job, so figured I could use that to buy packs and avoid grinding. I just wanted to play for fun. Little did I know what I was getting into…
I bought a couple million coins (yeah, whatever), bought a bunch of fun players, and figured that the high rated squad I had back in Jan - Feb would be enough to last me through the game. I couldn’t have been more wrong, as the players are insane for the first week or two, then started playing like normal golds. This is the conspiracy theory I think is most responsible for the game’s current state. You are rewarded for getting new players with juiced up stats behind the scenes, and when that wears off, you want to get new players again. I fell into this trap, bought coins again, and got banned from the transfer market because I did way too much, way too fast. Only then, when I literally couldn’t buy more players, did I realize how ridiculously insane the game (and my own mentality) had become.
In its current state, FUT is absolutely, positively, fucking, CRAZY. There are a million posts a day on this so I won’t harp on it, but compared to the game 10 years ago, it’s unrecognizable. Grinding 10s of boring squad battles games for fodder? 500k packs? Absurd objectives for XP that lead to nothing? Ass servers? Terribly timed updates? Logging in every day to get two 81 overalls? A "community limit” on overpriced packs to create false scarcity? The toxicity surrounding Champs? EA's general incompetence? It’s insane! FUT is not a game mode for someone looking to have fun, and the casual player is dead.
Guys look — variety is good. It’s cool that they have so many different players in the game. High rated players are now easily affordable. But EA’s exploitation of gambling addiction and people’s propensity for liking colorful cards has taken a casual, fun game, and turned it into a fucking disaster for anyone who doesn’t have 2+ hours a day to grind.
To be clear, this isn’t a rant. I only play the game for fun and just try to score fun goals. I have a great team, I play Rivals, and if someone is cooking me, I just quit and find a new match. I don’t care about my record, or my striker’s Goals/Game ratio, etc. I play to play, and that’s about it.
If anything this is a sad reflection on what the game has become.
Not that anyone cares, but I’ll see y'all in August when they apparently hand out high rated cards like candy. Stay strong brothers, avoid breaking out the credit card at all costs, and remember that video games are supposed to be a break from your stressful reality, not the other way around.
Happy summer!

2023.06.07 11:28 webuyequipment Tips for Selling Heavy Equipment - Interstate Heavy Equipment

Tips for Selling Heavy Equipment - Interstate Heavy Equipment
It’s not easy to sell large machinery. And deciding which equipment listing sites are worth the time and effort against which aren’t. Many construction equipment businesses have difficulty selling their products via the internet. With that in mind, here are nine of our best online tips for selling heavy equipment.
Heavy equipment is a niche market—few individuals shop for quarter-million-dollar construction machines, and even fewer have the funds to make a purchase. Even if you discover a few interested people and have the financial means to buy a $100,000 excavator or a $300,000 bulldozer, they may not live in your area and be unwilling to bear the price of transporting the machine across the state or nation.
Selling heavy equipment is similar to selling real estate in that you must be willing to play the long game. The average 972M wheel loader, for example, waits on the market for 105 days before being purchased, according to MachineryTrader.com. So, keep trying if you still don’t have any sales. The suitable buyer will eventually discover you if you do your best to get your equipment listings seen.

1. Place an ad on Machinery Trader for your equipment.

Intestate Heavy Equipment is still one of the most popular websites for heavy equipment shopping. At the top of Google search results, it routinely appears for high-volume search terms such as “excavators for sale” or “heavy equipment sales.”

2. Place an ad on Craigslist for your equipment.

Although you might not think of Craigslist as the first place to look for expensive construction equipment, it does have an entire heavy equipment category dedicated to it. The Craigslist Heavy Equipment page for Las Vegas, for example, featured 1050 local sales listings at the time of writing.

Pros:

Equipment owners’ listings are free. Furthermore, “heavy machinery for sale Craigslist is an online classified ad service”is a popular Google search word. It indicates that many individuals are looking for heavy equipment on Craigslist.

Cons:

Sellers are discouraged from offering equipment outside the city where their business is situated on Craigslist. For example, if your company is based in Las Vegas and you try to list your equipment in other cities, such as Los Angeles or Phoenix, your listing may be marked for removal.
Don’t include your email address when listing your equipment. Scammers and hackers have used Craigslist to send phishing emails. However, if someone is interested in purchasing something, they will call—so all you need to include is your phone number and website.

3. Post your machines in Facebook Heavy Equipment Groups.

Pros: Some advertising packages include comprehensive data and analytics. You can track the number of impressions and clicks an ad receives, as well as the number of phone calls it produces. You may even record incoming phone calls so that a supervisor can listen in and provide salespeople input on improving their lead-to-conversion rates.
Cons: Listing equipment on Machinery Trader might be costly. Their pricing plan is still based on their print magazine, which explains why their advertising expenses are more significant than expected.
Machinery Trader does not currently allow equipment dealers to list their equipment online—you must also pay for a position in their print magazine if you want to market your equipment on their website(s). Ad packages that include unlimited inventory listings start at $295 per week and start at $50 per week per machine.
Over two dozen Facebook groups buy and sell agricultural and construction equipment. Some are broad “heavy equipment for sale” groups, while others focus on a specific machine category—forklifts, for example—or a specific geographic area—the Southwest United States.

Pros:

Using Facebook groups to advertise equipment is free, and the platform allows you to send a single item to dozens of groups at once. The procedure of listing a piece of equipment takes only a few minutes.
Thanks to a recent modification in the newsfeed algorithm, Facebook groups may also prove to be a terrific way to get equipment spotted by potential clients. The admin altered Facebook’s algorithm at the time of writing to “prioritize the Pages and groups we anticipate an individual may care about the most,” resulting in postings from groups being at the top of many people’s feeds.
Cons: Many Facebook heavy equipment groups have thousands of members, and new listings post multiple times a day on each group’s page. It can be challenging to break through the clutter and notice your listings.
Pro-Tip: Use high-resolution photographs and provide a link to your website in the article description. Even if no one from Facebook buys your machine, including a link on your page can assist drive visitors to your site and raising brand awareness.

4. Build an email list of people who are interested in what you have to say.

Email marketing may be a powerful tool for selling heavy machinery when done correctly. Encourage individuals to join your email list by adding an email capture plugin to your website. For example, you could run a Facebook ad that targets your Facebook fans and people who have previously visited your website.

5. Make contact with local vendors.

Why not contact an equipment sales rep directly instead of posting a Facebook ad, commercial, or billboard and hoping someone finds it? For example, if you have many Caterpillar machines for sale, search for CAT dealers in your area and contact them by email or phone. First, of course, you’ll need to obtain the person’s name and direct email address. However, many equipment websites have their sales agents’ contact information displayed on their directory page.
Pros: Making a phone call or sending an email is quick and straightforward. Even if the sales agent doesn’t have money to buy your equipment right now, you’ll have gotten on his radar, and he could remember you the next time he needs something.
Cons: Because salespeople phone heavy equipment firms all day, they may be cautious about accepting a cold call without an appointment.

2023.06.07 11:23 aggrievedrejected AITA for telling a girl to "get over it" because I'm not interested anymore?

Throwaway because she uses reddit.
Backstory: I (31M) was adopted at birth. Around when I was in high school, they had a son of their own and I was basically ignored. It got so bad that I never went back home during college and instead in my junior year my adoptive dad's second cousin and her husband invited me to stay with them for the summer and I've basically lived with them since. The husband has a daughter from a previous marriage, K (22F). Basically, K and I aren't related at all. Due to the custody agreement for K, K and I never really hung out, that changed the past couple of years when we moved states to near K's college. We started hanging out a lot more and honestly I fell for her, she's grown into a gorgeous woman, she's super smart and funny. K graduated this year and is spending the summer here with us and for the past 2 weeks it was just us at home, parents went abroad. We had a blast and I thought she was falling for me too/flirting back at me.
I told her I was attracted to her but she said she wasn't ready for anything like that and I told her I understood and she left and I figured that was that. Well I guess I was wrong cause when I sent her a meme she responded with a long ass paragraph about how things would never be the same between us and how dare I think it would and I made her uncomfortable and she didn't want to see me or talk to me. Tbh the second I read that I immediately lost all attraction to her, I thought she was a mature adult but obviously not.
The next day she told me we need to talk and I tried to forestall her but she launched into this whole speech about how she regrets treating me nicely, how I violated her trust because she treated me like a brother, called me selfish apparently if I'd considered her feelings I'd know she'd never want this. At this point I had to interrupt her and explained I was no longer interested first of all, so this issue is over and done and she is blowing things out of proportion. That I don't regret treating her nicely and I will continue to. That I can accept that she isn't interested but I didn't violate her trust because I'm being honest to my feelings and trust is about honesty. And how am I supposed to consider her feelings when I clearly can't read her, I thought I had a 50/50 shot.
At this point she blew up and started yelling over me, tbh I was shocked I told her idk where this anger was coming from I thought she was a nice person and she's clearly just looking for an excuse to hold onto her anger against me, I didn't do anything wrong, if I had to redo my confession I'd do it again, she's gorgeous and funny and any guy would fall for her, I did apologize that she felt uncomfortable but she needs to get over this. She yelled at me to shut the f up and left and childishly slammed the door. That was 2 days ago and she's left the house, I think she's way overreacting but her mom called today to scream at me and I'm not sure now. So, AITA or did I dodge a bullet?

2023.06.07 11:19 FlyBird_ Laptops prices in USA and Canada

Greetings from Turkey! I'm planning to buy myself a gaming laptop as I'm going to college soon. but it is very expensive due to Turkey's tax policy and the increase in exchange rates. A friend of mine is going to Canada soon and I'm going to ask him to buy me a laptop. Most of the prices and videos I've looked at so far are people living in America, so I don't know the prices of Canada.
If I need to summarize briefly, how is the price difference between Canada and America?
Examples of prices: 40.000 TL= 1.700USD but the same laptop in usa websites is 900USD = 20.000 TL

2023.06.07 11:19 bisexualgirlie Struggling to finish basic life tasks

I’m (F) 24, I don’t have a driving license and I don’t have a high school diploma (reason was chronic depression). I’ve only recently found out I have a problem with learning and focus because I have Type 1 ADHD. Things that do interests me I’m good at and have no problem learning, but where I live high school diploma is a must and that paper is more important than your knowledge. But what really prevents me from not having a job is not having a driving license. I set up for a driving class and started learning 3 years ago but procrastinated since then because I can’t focus on something that bores me. I have until july to pass my driving test. I’ve accepted that I’m gonna have to restart with the classes at this point because I forgot what they were teaching but I know I’m gonna get bored of learning about cars and procrastinate again. Everyone thinks I’m just lazy and dumb but I’m losing my mind. I know I’m smarter than people think because I was tested and I have a high IQ. No one understands and even my psychiatrist prescribed me with some antidepressants that I’ve read can make ADHD worse. And she was the one who diagnosed me. Where I live they only give ADHD pills to kids. I had a mental breakdown because I feel like I’m a joke to everyone. Last year I almost ended up in a mental hospital because of attempting suicide. I just want to be a normal adult that can finish school and that can drive. When I was little I planned to go to college and now I feel like a dissapointment. What do you recommend? Do I need some ADHD pills? I’m really lost at this point.

2023.06.07 11:09 Sea-Transition-3659 How to find a good teacher?

Hey everyone How do you find a good teacher?
I have been asking around in local online communities and so far no luck. I have tried to contact several teachers with good reputation. They did not respond or they are unwilling to accept (adult) amateur beginners like me.
Some of the others work as musical directors and do not even have qualifications. Some of the coaches do have degrees from renowned colleges and have performed in several musicals or operas, and I am sure they are good singers, but it seems that they don’t have lots of teaching experience.
Any advice?
Thanks.

2023.06.07 11:09 Tylandord M/24 the road to self improvement is a long one, but I hope it's worth it.

I am not providing any advice nor condoning any mental health decisions made without the supervision and council of medical professionals. This post recounts my struggles with involuntary suicidal ideation but does not encourage, condone, or glorify self-harm.
If you're in crisis, go to the ER, call emergency services, or a crisis hotline. There are people who can help.
So my journey with mental health and various diagnoses is long, and I feel that sharing my multiple diagnoses and their timelines is essential to my story. That said, I'll try to be brief (no promises).
I seemed like a relatively normal kid until around the age of 3. I was difficult to potty train (I have memories from that time, which was traumatic for me and my mom). I believe this is due to my ongoing struggles with interoception. My family was also concerned about my delayed speech development. I am the youngest of 24 grandchildren and was often doted on as a child. For years my family just assumed that my development was delayed during that time because everyone did everything for me and that I lacked any need to speak for myself or toilet train because people spoke for me and found that changing me was less of a fight than trying to deal with outbursts with potty training. Then, I suddenly went from hardly speaking to one day speaking in complete sentences far beyond what other children my age could.
By age 4, my parents felt I was hyperactive and unruly. My dad, being a pharmacist, thought I should see a pediatric shrink to see about some stimulants as he had been diagnosed with ADHD and was hoping to get me treatment as early on as possible.
For the most part, nothing changed until I was 12. By this point, my family and I had spent the better part of 7 years jumping from stimulant to stimulant to control my seemingly uncontrollable nature. It was at this point in time that we decided I should have a complete Neuro-psych evaluation. At this time, I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, bipolar tendencies, and dysgraphia, but not ADHD. I was put on enough Seroquel to tranquilize a horse and gained 40 pounds in about 4 months.
It took me a long time to learn to accept this diagnosis as a kid, and I didn't want to be seen as the "kid from Parenthood" or as Rainman.
At age 14, I was hospitalized at a pediatric psych ward for 9 days. I wasn't keeping up with the medications I had been prescribed (pretty sure it was bupropion), which caused violent mood swings. I was struggling. I was relentlessly bullied for my lack of social skills, being overweight, and effeminate demeanor. I was called every homophobic and neurodivergent slur, often in front of faculty. My peers would throw rotting food at me on my walk home from school. I had no friends and had lost all hope in the public school system. It got to the point where I decided to take matters into my own hands as I felt that the adults could no longer protect me in this environment.
I now know there were better ways to handle my situation and that I had more options at my disposal, but nevertheless, I chose to say something that would ensure that I would never have to return to public school ever again. The school district learned of the negligence from the staff, and my expulsion was lifted. I would be allowed to return to school the following year. In the meantime, I was to attend class at the district office with a personal instructor, away from my peers (thank god).
My mom decided to investigate various private schools for kids both exclusively on the spectrum, and more broadly affected by various neurodivergencies. I shadowed these schools and attended each one for a week. I concluded that their resources would be wasted on me as I knew other kids needed their services more than I and would feel guilty if I took that from someone who needed it more.
After attending these schools, I decided it was up to me to learn to adapt to the world around me, and I dove into teaching myself social skills, masking techniques, coping skills, healthy living, and mindfulness. I returned to in-person instruction after earning my GED at 17 and immediately proceeded to college.
At 17, I had another evaluation completed to fulfill the accommodation requirements at a community college. At that time, I was then diagnosed (by the same clinician) with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Dysgraphia. My psychiatric team now lacked the bipolar suspicion, as they believed those symptoms, at age 12, resulted from a poor home life.
And to be honest, until I turned 19, I was fine. I had been unmedicated without issue since I was 16. I was working at the college bookstore during rush week, I got a student-elected job as a club liaison, my grades were good enough for me, and I learned to buckle down when needed. I had grown, made friends, finally found myself at a healthy weight, got involved with student government, and "become popular," and while I wasn't the most dedicated student, I was progressing. I felt proud of myself.
That would all soon change. After beginning to doubt my decision to study physics (as many people had told me that it would result in more debt than I could afford and likely working in IT/CompSci like every other physics Ph.D. wannabe). I decided to change majors to Data science and move away to a full-fledged university. I hated my studies and struggled with large classrooms. I moved in with two other students who were complete strangers in an apartment off-campus. My eyes had been opened. I was not ready. I struggled with time management, public transportation, and social isolation. And then, before I knew it, I would be hit with perhaps the most distressing symptom I've ever experienced.
Disclaimer: The following paragraph contains my experiences with involuntary suicidal ideation and visual OCD. Its purpose is to shed light on my experience with mental health. It is by no means a glorification of, or encouragement to attempt, any form of self-harm. I will not go into graphic detail about what I saw and continue to see, as it is unnecessary and potentially triggering to others.
This is when the symptoms, which I now understand to be visual OCD, began. I would start to see the aftermath of my own demise regularly. At first, I would attempt to reason it away. After all, I'm happy, intelligent, and more emotionally aware than ever. But the flashes of horrific imagery continued to become more graphic and frequent, causing me to become increasingly distressed by the day. I didn't want to die, so how could I be seeing these things? It got to the point where I didn't know what to do. I was at my wit's end and felt like I was losing my mind.
I decided to see a campus NP once I had begun to fail all my classes, and he very abrasively diagnosed me with Bipolar Depression and ADHD, concluding that I was never on the spectrum. I got a medical withdrawal, my term was refunded, and I felt like a failure. I would then go on to take my classes online the following semester, but as my grades began to slip and with little hope for a brighter future, I withdrew again.
I would then dive head-first into a relationship with another man to run from my problems. I moved almost 1500 miles away from my family to be with him, and I had hoped that if I ran fast enough, my problems wouldn't keep up. This flawed thinking blinded me from the issues within the relationship and encouraged me to ignore red flags about my now ex-partner.
At 22, after trying to ignore my visual OCD for the better part of 3 years and missing the glaring issues, I finally fell into the most profound depression of my life. Despite trying online education again (and barely meeting my credit requirements), I was constantly ill, depressed, and often unwilling to get out of bed. My relationship had been falling apart since we had moved in together, and I had grown tired of running away.
My ex-partner was unexposed to mental health struggles before being with me, and rightfully assessing that it was not his responsibility to be my caretaker, he gave me an ultimatum. Either I do something about it or go home and let my family take over. I decided to try a few medications I had been on in the past based on my mom's best recollection of what was most effective growing up. No success.
Six months later, I finally came clean about the hallucinations/flashes when my best friend took her own life. I couldn't risk keeping this secret any longer if I was to have any chance of making it. I had to persevere. For myself, for my family, for her.
By this point, I had been on almost every class of drug used to treat mental illness, excluding MAOIs and tricyclics. I needed something different and fast.
That's when I learned about ketamine infusions for depression from my mentor. He encouraged me to go to a clinic and see if they felt I was a good candidate. I was, and it's the best treatment I've ever received. I'm fortunate that I can afford it with the help of my family's financial support.
I had found relief from the visual OCD and gained clarity regarding my relationship. Over Thanksgiving of 2022, I broke things off with him and moved back in with my folks. I have been continuing my treatment here, and my new psychiatrist finally revealed that I have OCD, ADHD, and ASD. He also told me that depression and anxiety are accessories to these other issues.
My treatments have been helping more than anything has in the past. But now more than ever, I feel like I'm still struggling with the fallout of the last 5 years. I think I've wasted precious time and let naivety dictate my decisions for far longer than reasonable.
I've been enrolled in online school for the last year and a half in a program I love, but I've lagged behind. Lacking the motivation to continue and feeling ill-equipped to confront the road ahead of me, I'm stalling.
I know I'm bright, but I feel it's unearned when people talk about me in high regard. I don't feel I've accomplished anything when I complete a course ahead of schedule. I don't feel happiness in success, and I struggle to carry out my goals.
I'm still struggling to take care of myself. Keeping my surroundings clean and organized, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule (even when practicing seemingly perfect sleep hygiene), bathing myself, socializing with others, and managing my time all feel like ginormous tasks on their own (let alone maintaining all of them simultaneously).
I often wonder... "What happened to me?" "I was doing so well." "How did things get to this point?" "I want things to go back to how they were."
The last 6 months have been the best I've been in 5 years, but it's still hard. There's so much to do, so much to relearn.
When I returned to my home city, my friends had all moved on. I tried to make new friends by joining a league at a local pool hall (billiards is a passion of mine), but I couldn't make a good connection with any of them. The things I used to love, like video games, mountain biking, billiards, music, scripting projects, and drawing, are all met with anhedonia.
I'm seeing a therapist, and it's helping some, but I still feel like cogs and gears are missing from my clock. Pieces are missing from the puzzle. I feel unwhole. I want to live up to "my potential" and have something to feel proud of, but I feel anxious and self-conscious whenever I pursue an activity. I want to do things again.
Part of me wonders if I even have the proper diagnosis, if there's something we still don't know about. I have a hard time trusting that mental health professionals that diagnose and prescribe can help me anymore because they've all had a different idea of what I have, with no new ideas for treating my mental illness.
I keep trudging along, trying to find joy in the process, but I can't help but feel the weight of the tasks ahead. I know results-based thinking isn't sustainable, but when you feel like you're stagnating in the process, it's hard not to feel hopeless for the years to come.
I'm not suicidal, but I'm beginning to question what all this is even for. I'm unlikely I'll ever find complete relief from my symptoms. Life is probably going to keep being hard. I'm just hoping that one day all this work and dedication will pay off, the other shoe will drop, and I'll finally find meaning and joy in life.
Until then, I'll keep persevering with the ebbs and flows, trying to maintain whatever kind of good habits and routine I can until I feel comfortable enough to try adding something new.
Hopefully, this post doesn't get flagged, as I actually found typing this out pretty therapeutic. We aren't alone in our struggles.
There's hope out there... I think. Maybe not now, but hopefully, the page will turn, and the sun will shine for a brighter tomorrow.
Edited for improved reading clarity.

2023.06.07 11:08 BabyTogue Need advice please. Is it possible to start over as a freshman?

Context: (I'll try to keep it as concise as possible please bear with me)
- I graduated High School before K-12 was in place, so I'm not an SHS graduate
- Got accepted into one of the top Universities
- My mental health got in the way
- F'ed up my chances, not to mention I was around 16 and so naïve about college
- Moved to a different school, felt isolated as an irregular student and things just got worse
- Got diagnosed from a psychiatrist and started taking medication
- Grades at the 2nd school got worse too over time.
- Stopped going to school after the pandemic started and still not in school until 2023
- I'm going to therapy now
My question is, is there anyone here that can tell me if its possible to start over as a freshman in a different school? I've been lamenting over my mistakes for years now. Is it possible to not have my old classes and grades credited, and retake everything?

2023.06.07 11:00 Citizen639540173 Cost of Living crisis: why not add strategic price controls and dividend controls?

Am I missing something?
Inflation keeps rising, and the BoE keeps on increasing interest rates, which become unaffordable for people at some point (personal to each mortgagee). Worse case scenario is people are forced to sell to clear their mortgage debt, or the bank takes the property.
In both cases, many properties probably get sold to unscrupulous commercial or private landlords at knock-down rates for quick sales, which restricts the housing market further for individual buyers, and they don't pass on savings to people they rent to to protect their own profits.
Those who already rent also have problems with interest rate rises as their landlords pass on those increases at the next opportunity.
Meanwhile, the cost of living is increasing most other places. Sure, energy prices have risen and the government's put in place some very limited measures to help with caps, etc - but people are still paying way more than they did, and they've now removed the additional cap and allowed energy providers to fiddle with standing charges and rates to continue to squeeze whatever they can out of people as the weather improves and energy use drops. They introduced a windfall tax, but then lots of loopholes that allow companies to get away without paying those windfall taxes, including if they "invest". Instead, the government could have increased taxes (and introduced permanent excessive profit taxes to all sectors), and then the government could use that to help with energy prices as well as deciding where and how to invest rather than leaving it to private enterprise.
Food and other goods have increased massively. For sure, this is in part due to increased costs - materials/ingredients, transport, etc, etc.
But clearly, there's also been a lot of bandwagon jumping - people hiding behind increased costs to make more money. This is evidenced by the rich continuing to get richer, corporations getting richer... But the average person having the biggest drop in living standards since records began, and the biggest gap between the average income and average house price since 1876.
And yet the BoE's increasing interest rates to try and stem inflation isn't working.
Why? Because a lot of people have already cut a lot of non-essential spending. They have little choice but to pay the inflated prices on housing, food, energy, transport, etc, etc.
Surely a much better way to control inflation would be to add strategic price controls?
Doing so should include rent price capping. With other goods and services, it seems a little difficult - because if you cap prices below what they cost to produce/provide, especially with rising costs, then that could cause companies to go bust. But there's maybe other ways to do it - maybe restricting profits (price above costs)?
Also, shouldn't we be considering dividends freezes or caps? Because those dividends often always seem to be paid - whether people are laid off, whether prices are increased... If there's less incentive to raise costs because the money can't be released to shareholders, would it help stem inflation?
I accept that none of these things are perfect solutions. Everything has potential issues, too. But what's happening now isn't working, and we need other solutions to help more people and not just serve to benefit the rich, the powerful and corporations? Sure, there will be balance points that need to be found - but carrying on as we are isn't working?

2023.06.07 10:58 bayouboho Are comorbidities worth diagnosing?

Social media has been filling my feed with all kinds of stuff this month about ADHD + fibromyalgia, POTS, connective tissue disorders, hypermobility, IBS/IBD, psoriasis, even being tongue tied, etc.
Is it worth mentioning to my doctor any of this? Like, if I’ve made it this long without dying from it, it’s probably fine, right? ….right?
I’ve had IBS since middle school (complete with vasovagal syncope—yay which was brought up to docs numerous times growing up, but I never took a dump in front of my doctor so I never fainted on the toilet in front of my doctor, and since they never SAW it happen, they assumed my mom and I were just being dramatic).
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in early college, took meds off and on and ultimately decided they just weren’t right for me after a few years.
My SIL was diagnosed with dysautonomia a few years back and all the symptoms she struggles with, I noticed I’ve experienced since I was a child—most notably the intolerance to temp changes and getting overheated at the drop of a hat (then being stuck feeling like garbage with a nasty headache the rest of the day).
I’ve always had dizziness/tunnel vision when standing after sitting a while. I’ve just learned to be really mindful of my posture and movements, like knowing better than to bend down to tie a kindergartener’s shoe at school or else I may start to black out upon standing and land on top of the poor child.
Today I made sure to check my heart rate on my Apple Watch every time I felt dizzy (aka every time I’ve stood up) and it’s jumping to 120-130+ bpm immediately when standing up from resting position.
If my blood pressure gets weird and suddenly drops, I know to just find a place to sit ASAP and remain completely still until it passes so that I don’t lose consciousness (especially in public—ain’t no strangers calling an ambulance for me to spend the rest of my life paying off!).
I am hypermobile, but not to the extreme of suffering dislocations or anything.
My tongue tie was never corrected as a child (though, my scary dentist always mentioned that and my upper lip frenum at every appointment and said he could get rid of my lisp if my mom gave permission to snip them…how terrifying as a child lol), but I’ve learned to compensate for my lisp. I do live with TMJ and a terribly audible popping sound in my jaw when I eat or chew gum now…wonder if they’re related.
I guess what I’m saying is…isn’t it kind of weird to just drop all this on my doctor now after dealing with it most of my life?? Would diagnosing anything really help, or just give me more doctors to see?
Only thing I’m currently treated for is psoriasis and ADHD, because while I can for the most part mask all the other symptoms, having noticeable bald spots and plaques all over my scalp and eyebrows was affecting my life enough to say something about, lol. Hmm maybe I should mention the heart rate and dizziness thing…

2023.06.07 10:36 RingAshleyNL Can a UK resident take out a finance agreement on an engagement ring in Canada and continue to pay when back in the UK?

Long story short, I'm travelling back to Newfoundland in August to visit my girlfriend and thinking of popping the question.
Instead of getting a ring financed here in the UK and pay over say, 24-months, I'm wondering if I could benefit from the UK - CAD exchange rate and get something whilst in NL.
I'm guessing it may be a case-by-case basis with the jewellery store whether they want to accept the "risk" or not, but legally speaking, can I take out a financial plan(?) whilst in NL, but continue to pay it whilst back home in the UK from my UK bank account?
I believe my bank would charge me 2.99% of each monthly repayment as it would be an international transaction, but if my maths work out, that would still work out better, financially.
