I spend much of my morning watching Coda and my ratlings working on Rocky’s ring, though I do check in on Violet, too. I’m trying to not get impatient and rush her, especially after Rezlar saying I’ve been growing way faster than other dungeons.
She’s actually sending centipede expeditions to scout the area before she expands, being cautious. To be fair, I don’t know what will happen with the scythemaw eggs in the area when she expands. They scythemaws proper are delvers, so would they become Residents? Dwellers? Delvers? I think Tarl said the townsfolk would become Residents if I expanded… or did he say Dwellers? I’d think Dwellers, since Residents seem a bit more connected.
Violet doesn’t seem too concerned about them, though, and seems more like someone looking to buy a house, and wanting to make sure they don’t discover the pipes are garbage or something. Whatever the eggs do, I just have to be patient and not push her too hard. She’ll get there.
Around noon, I feel familiar feet, with an unfamiliar set joining them. I smile to myself as I see Freddie and Rhonda, along with Fiona and Lucas, as well as an elf who feels familiar, but I can’t quite place him. I don’t need to send Teemo to go say hi, as he’s already on his way.
The kids are looking eager to do some delving, while the new elf is looking a bit nervous, but doing his best to hide it as Rhonda points at the porch.
“And there’s the notice board and the quests from the aranea!”
“We should get a quest. It’ll be a good way to help him get used to how Thedeim works,” points out Freddie. Teemo walks out from under the porch and grins as he sees the new elf.
“You guys snagged a newbie, eh?”
The kids look a little confused at the term, and the elf blushes a bit in embarrassment, so Teemo continues. “Nothing wrong with it. Everyone has to start somewhere. And with these two, you’ll be just fine.”
“He’ll be a great help to us, too,” points out Freddie. “He’s a fencer. We’ve been missing a good damage dealer.”
“Could have fooled me and the Boss. You kids can pull out some serious hurt when you need to.”
Rhonda waves that off. “We have to do a team up attack to do most of that kind of stuff. I only beat Rocky that one time because I tripped him up and basically made him hit himself.”
The elf’s eyes widen at that, as does Teemo’s grin. “You think the new guy could go toe to toe with Rocky?”
Freddie and Rhonda exchange a look, before Freddie shrugs. “We haven’t really seen him in action yet. I think the three of us together could at least give him a proper challenge.”
Teemo is definitely enjoying the poor elf’s misery at that idea. “What’s your name, anyway? Sorry about talking about you like you’re not here. Freddie, Rhonda, Lucas and Fiona are friends of Thedeim, and any friend of theirs is a friend of his.”
He looks even more terrified at that thought, but Rhonda and Freddie smile and motion for him to introduce himself, so he tries to steel his courage. “I’m Re- er… Larrez. Uh… just Larrez,” he manages, tripping over his words a bit.
Teemo eases up on him a bit at that and nods. “I’m Teemo, Thedeim’s Voice. Just Teemo’s fine, heh. Anyway, you kids were looking for a quest?” he asks of the whole group, and everyone, even Larrez, nods. “There should be one to do something down in Violet. You kids could take that one and take the long way. You know, show him the ropes and what all the Boss has to offer, maybe introduce him to a few of the other scions.”
“Is Rocky available for a sparring match?” asks Freddie, clearly wanting to actually test if he’s right about how they’ll fare.
“Eh… kinda. The Boss is working on a new arena for him. The big lug won’t say no, of course, but he might be a bit distracted by the call of his new ring.”
Freddie looks interested at that, and Rhonda speaks up. “Maybe we’ll just stop by to say hello, then. I’d love to learn more magic from him, too, but I wouldn’t want to interrupt.”
Teemo shrugs. “I don’t think he’ll mind if you drop in. Anyway, I’ll let you get to it. It was nice to meet you for the first time, Larrez. Just take it slow and learn to work together, and you’ll all be fine.” Larrez pales at Teemo’s exit, which makes me certain I’ve seen him before, but I still can’t place him. Teemo chuckles as he heads down a shortcut, and I decide to keep watching the young party as they look over the quests.
As they peruse the hanging pieces of wood, Rhonda speaks up. “Oh, this reminds me!” She levels a finger at both Freddie and Larrez. “You two should get a gathering skill!” Larrez looks confused, while Freddie looks thoughtful.
“We probably should, yeah. I don’t think I’m interested in any crafting skills of my own, but gathering could be useful. What do you think, Larrez?”
The elf, still looking a bit uncomfortable after having talked with Teemo, slowly nods. “It… would probably be smart, yes. I do not know if I would be any good at a crafting skill, but gathering is a good way to supplement adventuring income.” He gets a little more confident as he speaks, and I can practically see him reading it out of some book or another on adventuring.
“Anything stick out to you two?” asks Rhonda, excited her suggestion is getting followed through on. Freddie shrugs.
“I think the classic for a paladin would be mining or maybe lumberjacking. I even have an axe. But… neither really sounds that interesting to me. Larrez?”
“Um… I have always been intrigued by mining,” he admits, to the curious looks of his party. After a few moments, he continues. “It just seems… relaxing? Slow and methodical, nobody around to bother you while you work?”
Freddie nods at that. “You could even take up smelting to turn your ore into ingots. It’s not the most glamorous crafting job, but there’s no shortage of demand for metals.”
Larrez looks relieved for the support, and is even bold enough to ask his own question. “And you, Freddie? If not mining or lumberjacking, what gathering skill would you like to pursue?”
Freddie considers as his eyes wander the quests, before he picks one. “Field dressing is interesting. There’s a lot of magic in the herbs Rhonda gathers, but there’s also a lot of stuff in the things we fight, too. If nothing else, most skins and hides are worth something to a tanner. And… maybe cooking as a crafting skill.” He chuckles as he nods to himself, and smirks at Rhonda. “If we’re going to be a party,
someone should learn to cook. Alchemy doesn’t count.”
She sticks her tongue out at him. “Alchemy soup totally counts,” she says with mock seriousness, before giggling and not arguing the point. She grabs a quest plaque to gather mushrooms in Violet, and Freddie shows his to skin three cave bunnies.
“How about you? Violet doesn’t have any mining nodes… I think, but Thedeim has ones all over in the tunnels and caverns,” says the goblin.
“I… do not have a pick,” admits the elf, but Rhonda doesn’t accept that excuse.
“We can get one from a ratling. Or, if they don’t want to let us have one, you can use your water affinity to erode the rock and get some ore, right?”
“...in theory?”
“Great! Then grab a mining quest, and we’ll give you the grand tour of Thedeim!”
He reaches out and takes a quest to mine some tin, then looks confused as he looks over at what the other two accepted. “Why do your quests say Violet?”
“Ah,” says Freddie, realizing they haven’t been explaining things very well, and motions for Larrez to follow him off the porch. “Violet is another dungeon, one pretty deep down. Thedeim found her and has taken her as his protege.”
His eyes widen in concern. “
Another fast-developing dungeon!?”
Rhonda giggles and shakes her head. “Nah, she’s a lot more mild than Thedeim is, at least as far as Freddie and I can tell. Though she
was kinda stuck behind the scythemaws for a while, so there wasn’t much expanding she could really do anyway.”
“But now the tunnel horrors are gone,” points out Larrez, still looking worried. Freddie smiles.
“Sure, but she’s still young, and Mr Tarl says she’s still acting like it. Thedeim is helping guide her and giving her advice, but if she was like him, she would have expanded as soon as the maws were gone. I’m pretty sure she still hasn’t.”
“She’s also looking like she’ll be a toybox,” points out Rhonda as they round the house and head for the simple herbalism nodes. Her quest might be for mushrooms in Violet, but the simple herbs seem to be a base for a lot of things, so might as well get some on the way.
“A
deep toybox,” emphasizes Freddie. “Apparently, most deep dungeons are belligerent at best. If she keeps this up, the Dungeoneers will probably expand their guild here to ensure she’s safe and happy. The kind of resources she could provide could end up putting Fourdock on the map, even if Thedeim wasn’t here.
With him here…”
Larrez sighs and I finally recognize him as he speaks. “With them both, the Mayor is going to have his hands full.”

Decisions: - Ryzen CPU has a stock cooler (which later I will replace). Going for a 5700x or higher, is more expensive, it doesn't come with a cooler and performance isn't that different.
- RAM is on the memory supported list of the motherboard (should be ok to activate DOCP), its CL16(16-16-16-36) and CPU compatible.
- Motherboard has 1 PCIe 4.0 for SSD NVME and has WIFI which I will need.
- P5 Plus 500GB (PCIe 4.0) for Windows 11 and P3 1TB (PCIe 3.0) for games
- 6800XT is currently at 310€ discount (from 939,90€ to 629,90€)
- PSU has very good reviews
Questions: - 6800XT specs says 750W its the minimum. Should I go with 850W just for comfort? I don't pretend to update anytime sooner (I will just buy extra fans, the case only comes with 3)
- 1TB PCIe 4.0 for OS and games or 500GB PCIe 4.0 for OS and 1TB PCIe 3.0 for games ?

2023.03.20 20:49 tdciago Pearl and Dragon Imagery
Has anyone else noticed the preponderance of pearl and dragon references, going all the way back to
Fargo the movie?
Women's names related to
Margaret are all derived from the Greek word for
pearl. We also have characters directly named Pearl. These include Marge Gunderson, Pearl Nygaard, Greta Grimly, Peggy Blumquist, and Ethelrida Pearl Smutny.
In season 1, Lester stands in front of Norm's Pizza, with Dragon Pearl Restaurant (a real location) in the background. It's a nice call-back to the movie to have both Norm and the word
Pearl in this shot, as a possible allusion to Marge. And, of course, foreshadowing of Pearl Nygaard's fate.
At the Salesman of the Year Awards, the centerpieces look like shining pearls.
Later, Lester and Linda plan to go to Acapulco,
The Pearl of the Pacific. Linda has the plane tickets on her when she's killed, with an assist from Lester and his coat. Maybe a reference to the first wife he killed. After losing one glove, he throws away the mate. May as well have the pair.
In season 2, we have the Pearl Hotel, and Peggy also guesses that dragons are locked up in castles.
Lester has a dragonfly wall hanging in his house.
Malvo is intentionally associated with dragons. He carries a weapon that looks like a dragon's claw. He talks menacingly about maps once warning, "Here be dragons," and how the dragons are still there. The smoke and vapor during the traffic stop with Gus were intended to bring dragons to mind. After the elevator murders, Malvo is silhouetted against blood spatters that resemble dragon's wings.
Don watches a bearded dragon in the pet store while buying crickets to terrorize Stavros.
Photos:
https://imgur.com/a/UMjdNav The story of the koi dragon may have special significance for season 1, given Lester's fish poster:

2023.03.20 20:49 DueHall9387 How could I run the Palace of Heart's Desire in one session?
This is definitely just brainstorming as I feel like I'd have to cut too much.
One of my players is moving away in 2 weeks so we only have one more session with him. The expectation is not that we finish in time, but that we carry on after. However, they will begin the next session by arriving at the Palace, and it just seems so within reach that I'd love to finish with him there if possible.
A few things that will make their Palace experience faster already are - they have the unicorn (or at least, they restored Elidon, and he will meet them there), and they know (or at least I think they do) Zybilna's true name.
We have also had foreshadowing for Bloodybeak, the Jabberwocky, the Fomorian, the League of Malevolence, and Valor's Call. In addition all the hags are alive, so there is the opportunity for an all out coven battle. These are the things that make me think an abridged 1 session version would be losing too much.
But on the other hand, we've already gone way over the predicted amount of sessions - a mixture of "short" (3 hour) sessions, and my group taking a lot of time to do things 😅 So as much fun as it has been, I'm kinda super ready for the finale, and being able to have that finale with our party intact would be chefs kiss.
Also, running the Palace as written looks like a slog of a dungeon crawl, and with my group that could legitimately be like 6 sessions 😂
What are people's thoughts on an abridged Palace? How would you run it in one session? And in your opinion would I be missing too many things out?

2023.03.20 20:48 Blackkenjii [Online] [Other] [GMT+1] The Land of Krynn
From lush and verdant plains to deadly deserts, the land of Krynn is a vast place filled with all manner of adventure. Formed by the primeval dragons of creation, it is divided into eight courts - one for each of those enormous and immortal beasts that gave the world its life. Through millennia, the dragons reigned unquestioned.
But now, chaos has broken out, as the Green Dragon of Life has been found murdered, a cataclysmic event that is sure to bring untold mayhem to the world. As civil war threatens to erupt between the Green Dragon's many children, the hungry eyes of the other courts are drawn to the now rulerless place...
Hello, everyone! My name is V, and I am on the lookout for a couple of players to join me in a (hopefully) long running campaign of
Burning Wheel. Now, most people will probably not have heard of the system, but don't fret! I will expound on it later. But first, I shall give the usual technical details.
Platforms and programs The game will be played on Roll20 for character sheets, dice rolls and Virtual Table Top (if needed), and discord will be used for voice chat. Camera is optional, but I do like seeing who I play with. No other program is needed.
Scheduling While the day is not totally set in stone, my preference is
Thursdays, ideally starting at 6pm GMT+1, give or take an hour. As for frequency, I enjoy
weekly or at the very least bi-weekly games. Games would last three to four hours.
Application To apply to this game, simply shoot me a message here on reddit, or add me on Discord: superuser#4642 If I don't respond immediately, don't fret! I will definitely get back to you even if it doesn't work out, but it might take me a little bit. In your message, please tell me the following:
Your age, name and preferred pronouns. I am asking for age, since I am looking for players that are in roughly my age group (late twenties). In my experience, that simply works out best.
Any RPG experience you might have. It doesn't matter whether you are a hard core veteran or a total newcomer, I just like to know so I can adjust my play style.
Specifically, any experience (if any) you have with the system Burning Wheel.
And anything else you feel might be relevant! Please include all this in your opening message, it will help me immensely! Afterwards, we will try to find a time that works for both of us to have a small call and get to know each other, so I can decide whether you are a good fit for the game. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
THE GAME This section is dedicated to explain the basics of Burning Wheel. It is a very peculiar system, and while it is my favorite TTRPG of all time, it is quite different from most others in ways that might turn you off or frustrate you, so I find it best to quickly lay out the fundamentals so you can make a judgement call on whether or not you want to join.
1.) Burning Wheel is not a combat heavy game. I am leading with this since it is one of the things that heavily seperates Burning Wheel from DnD, Pathfinder, and many other popular TTRPGs. Now, don't get me wrong. Burning Wheel does have a combat system, and it is a very good one, with lots of crunchy mechanics to get into. However, it is only used very rarely, for very climactic battle scenes. The reason for that is that the system is hard, complicated, and lethal. Even if you win, your character will probably suffer severely because of it for some time. So if you are more interested in a Hack'n'Slash adventure, then this system wouldn't work out for you.
2.) Burning Wheel is character driven. This might sound odd, after all aren't all roleplaying games character driven? Well yes, but Burning Wheel really puts the player characters front and center in determining where the game goes. In opposition to most TTRPGs, the story progresses more as a dance between what the players want their characters to achieve and the GM throwing obstacles and wrenches in your path. To achieve this, players write down
Beliefs for their characters, which can be philosophies or goals. These are very important, as they give the GM a sign, what you want out of the game, as well as tying into the central reward mechanism for the game. Simply put, if you pursue your Beliefs, you get XP (or the equivalent).
3.) The odds are stacked against you. Burning Wheel wants you to fail. It wants you to have to really fight, put your blood, sweat, and tears into what you want to achieve, and to have you suffer for success. There are a lot of mechanics in the game that seem unfair at first glance. I can guarantee you, you will at some point say: "But that is impossible! How the hell am I meant to succeed here?" And while that may seem daunting, its the thing that makes play so very memorable in this system. Failure isn't a dead stop in this game; by design it will propel you forward. Failure will never be as flat as "Well, its over and nothing's to be done." instead, it will complicate the story, force you to make tough choices, and really bring the drama into the game!
4.) Basic mechanics I wanted to get my three major concerns out of the way first! But also, you should probably know how the game actually works! I will explain in more detail when we have a chat, but for now, I will write down the basic elements here with brief explanations:
- Dice Rolls: In Burning Wheel, to resolve a test, you roll a pool of six sided dice. If a die comes up with a 4, 5, or 6, it is a success! To succeed on a check, you need a number of successes equal to a difficulty number the GM gives the task.
- Beliefs, Instincts, Traits: These are the core of the game. Each character can have up to three Beliefs. Those are long or short term goals, or ideals. Something like "Murder is wrong" or "I will return prince Leonard to his rightful seat on the throne!" These are what your character wants and what play is about. The Beliefs grant players a lot of power in determining, where the story goes! Each player also has up to three Instincts and a vast number of Traits. Instincts are what they sound like: instincts your character has. Something like "Never leave the house without a knife" or "always carry coin on me." Traits are too big a topic to get into here. Most importantly, all of these elements reward you if you play them out! You will gain the central currency Artha through it!
- Artha: Artha is a meta currency players gain by pursuing their beliefs and playing out their instincts and traits. Artha could be compared to Inspiration in DnD 5E, Fate Points from Fate, or Plot Points from Shadowrun: Anarchy. They are a currency you can spend to enhance your dice rolls, like rerolling sixes on a check, adding bonus dice, evading danger, and many, many things more!
- Skills and Advancement: Burning Wheel has a wide array of skills, and those are where you will get your dice for checks. They are measured from 1 to 10. For example, if you have a Sword skill of 3, you get to roll 3 dice on your check! To advance a skill, you simply need to use it! While it is a little more complicated than that, to raise your skills you simply need to roll them a bunch of times!
And that's it! I think. If you got through this wall of information, I really appreciate it! If you have any more questions or something I wrote is unclear, feel free to let me know in the comments or in DMs!
Thanks for reading! I am looking forward to hearing from you!
All the best!
- V

2023.03.20 20:47 Arctic_Dreams Regisfall: Roleplay Shard
| According to my scroll, I've been playing this shard for over 200 days so I thought I'd share about it here! Website Discord Regisfall is a free custom RP shard with a familiar foundation for those what have played T2, RoE, or FoE. It is a great blend of nostalgia and new features for me. The classes have received a lot of love and attention and there are new features being added regularly that keep it engaging even for veterans. There has been some recent teasing of a weapon augment system in the works for example. This really feels like a labor of true love with the staff - things are updated frequently and responsive to player feedback and ideas. The community has been a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing it continue to grow. There are a lot of wonderful roleplayers spread throughout the different cities and guilds - it definitely entices you to try different characters and experience the different interactions and scenarios with various groups. Although the cities and races are familiar to me from past shards, this is the first time I've seen Elves be the most populated nation and Humans not ruled by a King. There's a little something here for every RP lover. Whether you're casual and here for just the story or a more mechanics minded individual, you can find a spot here. Tavern nights to group hunts and everything in between. While there has seldom been PvP interactions in character so far, plenty of folks enjoy a good spar or tournament. I would say I fall more on the casual side. Even running into someone on the road has been a delightful little nugget of an RP moment. I've really appreciated the thought everyone has put into their characters and even an idle moment in a tavern can become an important character interaction. I'm smitten, I tell you! There are - of course - dungeons to test your skill against quirky enemies and punishing bosses, but you best forge some strong bonds to call upon a group for the Burning Depths. This timed dungeon is designed for higher level players who crave a challenge and to put their teamwork to the test. submitted by Arctic_Dreams to ultimaonline [link] [comments] |

We've all seen dragons who are huge and powerful and magical, but what weaknesses do your dragons have? What can your average human do better than your average dragon?
Dragons are generally more "sinful" in nature, more susceptible to greed or anger or whatever, but what cultural or biological flaws do they suffer from?

2023.03.20 20:45 pleuvoir_2019 Legendary Drop Rate Seems to Be Fine
Even though you get a lot of legendries at lower level, there are a lot of things to consider.
- There is a higher tier item that we did not even see yet.
- Yes, you do get a lot of aspects but it's really hard for you to get an aspect with good stats (since most of them have random stats). I only saw one aspect with a really high stat that I may want to keep until I progress to level 50+.
- You can only use your aspect once and you can't extract it from an item once you use it. So even if you get a really good aspect with good random stats, you will have to make a choice to use it at an earlier level because you can't recover them anyways. Sure, you can get subpar aspects and use them for a while, but we have not seen how things are for III or even IV difficulty dungeons. We are merely at II at most and I don't think we will be able to clear IV dungeons as fast as we do now.
- Aside from aspect, it is really, and I mean REALLY hard to get legendries with decent stats when in comparison, you can get a pretty good rares with good stats. Also, you can't even reroll stats on Legendaries in beta and we are not even sure if we will get a lot of those reroll mats for legendries when the game fully launches.
I find it perfectly fine that we can clear dungeons fast enough until 50+. We are all technically at an early stage of the game at level 25 and I don't feel like having a discussion about how fast things are now carries that much weight.

2023.03.20 20:43 Zibani Looking to build a one-shot that takes place entirely in initiative. What are your interesting ideas?
Years ago, around the time that Volo's guide came out, a buddy of mine offered to run a one-shot that was supposed to be the setup to the campaign he was going to publish.
The setup was basically "You wake up, fully naked, chained to a wall with a bunch of people you don't recognize. You are told that you have five minutes (or some similar number) to escape this compound. Good luck. The chains release you. Roll initiative."
The session mostly consisted of splitting up and rushing around a fairly large complex, fully confused, scrambling to grab whatever gear we could find, entirely in initiative, sometimes meeting up, trading objects, teaming up to fight the occasional monster. Kind of like an in-initiative escape room. There were cool special rooms, some interesting, a couple of homebrew rules for standard action attunement, just so people could use the magic items in the game.
It was far and away one of the most engaging sessions of D&D I've ever had. We don't really game with the guy who wrote it any more, but we still occasionally enthuse about that session, and the couple of times we re-ran it to playtest it for him.
I'd like to recapture that excitement, so I want to make a spiritual successor to that dungeon, and I'm looking for ideas.
In a session that takes place entirely in initiative, where the party is expected to split up and explore, what fun interactables and items might you include? Why is the party in such a hurry? What homebrew rules might you include to help streamline things? (Like how far you can hear someone yelling in these echoey rooms?)

2023.03.20 20:43 Stojokes Potential Emblem Arval Skillset
I had a lot of fun making a potential skillset for Emblem Shez (which you can read
here if you want) and made another one for Emblem Arval cuz Three Hopes brainrot never left me. These skills and weapons may be busted or really bad, I just wrote down whatever I thought sounded cool and accurate to the character.
Bond/Engage Skills: -Bond Skill "Duality": At the start of odd turns, grants unit Def/Res+3. On even turns, grants Atk/Mag+3.
"Duality+ and ++": grants Def/Res+4-5 and Atk/Mag+4-5 [Qi Adept] also grants bonus to adjacent ally with the highest HP [Dragon] also grants Atk/Spd+1-3 on odd turns and Def/Res+1-3 on even turns.
-Bond Skill "Agarthan Arcana": If foe initiates combat, units deals 25% of damage taken to foes and enemies within 2 spaces of foe after combat. Minimum 1 damage. (Inheritable)
-Bond Skill "Cycle Keeper": When units HP drops below 30%, completely fill the engage meter. Has a three turn cooldown.
"Cycle Keeper+, ++, and +++": increases threshold to 30%, 35%, and 40% respectively.
-Engage Skill "Metamorphosis": While engaged, doubles the effects of units personal skill or increases its range by 1 (so
Not Quite grants Avo+20, Generosity now applies to allies within 2 spaces, etc.)
-Engage attack "Rite of Souls": Use to attack an opponent within range and heal both unit and adjacent allies for 50% of the damage dealt. If this attack defeats an opponent, unit and adjacent allies are also granted Def/Res+4 for 1 turn. Range 1-2 [Mystical] increases area of effect by 1
Engage Weapons: -Miasma Δ: Basic black magic. Range 1-3
-Luna Λ: An extremely heavy tome with only a single point of Mt, ignores half of enemy Res. Range 1-2
-Hrotti: A mysterious relic wielded by Emblem Arval, calculates damage using the higher of units Atk or Mag. Range 1-2
Extra Inheritable skills/proficiencies: -Vigilant Gaze 1-4: grants Hit+10-25 to unit and inflicts Dodge -5-20 on opponent during combat.
-Tome Proficiency
-Staff Proficiency

2023.03.20 20:41 juukbra I don’t know about y’all, but I’m so excited for what the new core set has in store! Personally, I’d love to see the return of highlander support, some cards from DoD and Dalaran, and maybe even the old gods reworked like the dragon aspects of this year! What’re y’all’s thoughts?
