2023.06.02 00:44 ngxmanu She wants to go backpacking all alone and I have 3 choices.
Hey there! In the beginnings of the relationship with my gf I had some trust issues. So I gave everything Ive had and still do my best to work on this problem.
A week ago I even said that it is no problem for me that she goes on vacation for a week in a van with her male bestfriend. (they will sleep in the same bed for a week). But since I have worked on myself - no problemo!
But two days ago she introduced me into her new idea: She wants to make a big expensive vacation with me for 3-4 weeks and directly after that she wants to go backpacking alone in Indonesia for a month (she said she found very nice backpacker stays), since this summer will be the only time for the next 2 year where she‘ll have enough free time to do such.
Unfortunately I really have to work hard this summer and can‘t afford me another expensive vacation ( we already had one this year). And I dont wanna touch my savings for a vacation.
So basically I cant really go on this vacation with her and probably she will do both all alone.
So she asked me for my opinion on her plans. I would never forbid her not to do what she wants to do! And then, not knowing what I should say, I just said: “nice!“
So now I am stuck between: - Should I tell her that I don’t really like her plans (she is the type of girl which would give up her plans for me) = selfish choice and not good for her (this is the option that I probably will not pick, my goal is that shes happy because i really do love her)
- Should I say nothing and hope that she combined no bs in this 2 months and in the meantime continue to work on my issues? = very difficult and very risky
- Should I leave her now? So that she can follow her dreams fully and doesnt have to fear that I potentially could feel bad. = Hurts as f but easy solution
Has anyone had a similiar experience or a great idea to solve my problem?
Note: I really love this woman
Thanks in advance!!

2023.06.02 00:43 carmichael561 How the Fed Will Make Bank Transfers Truly Instant
| While many countries now offer bank payments in the blink of an eye, moving funds between accounts in the US can still take days. Electronic platforms such as PayPal Holdings Inc.’s Venmo and Block Inc.’s Cash App offer various workarounds to speed up the process, but they are essentially intermediaries that interface with the slow banking system. Now the Federal Reserve has created a high-speed transportation lane that allows for bank transfers within seconds. Here’s what you need to know about the new service, FedNow, which launches in July. - Why are US bank payments so slow? Transfers using the Automated Clearing House — the legacy system invented in the 1970s — can take days to complete, partly because it lumps transactions together and processes them at specific intervals. Newer instant-payment tools like Venmo are fine when you’re doing something like buying a hot dog or sending cash to a friend who uses the same app. But when you want to pull money back off those platforms, the funds grind their way through the legacy banking system before they show up in your account. The same thing happens when you receive a paycheck or pay a utility bill. A survey by American Banker in 2021 found that 21% of consumers had abandoned a financial transaction or account opening because it took too long. The current slow transfers often lead to late fees for missed bill payments or penalties for overdrafts. So for the millions of Americans who live paycheck to paycheck, the delays can be costly.
- Why can’t banks solve the problem themselves? All the income from those overdraft and other fees meant banks had little incentive to come up with a faster solution on their own. A bank can also temporarily sweep transfer funds held overnight into short-term securities to earn a yield. US banks have the right to hold your money for as long as 10 days for the purpose of making sure it is not the proceeds of a crime. A group of big US banks did come up with a rapid-settlement platform of their own, known as real-time payments, or RTP, but have marketed it mainly to business customers because they already offer a peer-to-peer system called Zelle for consumers. While this is sold to consumers as a real-time transfer service, in some instances the transfers are settled over the legacy batch system and the banks in effect extend short-term credit until those payments settle.
- How will FedNow work? FedNow will offer instantaneous payments from one bank account to another 24/7, all year round. Because payment occurs instantly, customers will know right away if the transfer has completed or failed. The person receiving the funds will be able to use them almost instantly. The flip side is that, unlike a check, you can’t put a hold on a FedNow payment or cancel it. Once you’ve made that payment, the money is gone for good. And unlike a credit card, there are no rewards, points or fraud protection.
- What are the fees for using FedNow? Payments will cost a few cents, but it’s not clear who will pick up the tab — the bank or the customer. With ACH, it’s often the bank that pays the fees unless the customer is making a large number of payments.
- How can I sign up for FedNow? You can’t, as there won’t be a FedNow consumer app. First your bank will need to sign up to use the system and plug it into the back end of its own banking website or app.
- Will this kill providers like Venmo or Cash App? That’s certainly not the goal: The Fed has always said consumers are best served by a competitive payments landscape with multiple players. FedNow will both complement and compete with existing electronic payment systems. Almost 10,000 US banks and credit unions will be able to join and use FedNow, giving the country’s patchwork of regional lenders and credit unions a better chance of vying for payments business against giant banks and financial technology firms.
- Is the US leading the way here? Europe’s Single Euro Payments Area already allows instant payments across 36 countries, while the UK introduced instant payments in 2008. One limitation of FedNow is that it doesn’t allow for “pull” transactions in which utilities, phone companies or other service providers can trigger a payment from a customer account on an agreed date, a capability that makes it easier for those businesses to manage their cash flow.
- How soon will my bank offer FedNow? Fed officials expect the adoption to be slow and gradual, and it could be many months before FedNow shows up on a bank’s website or app. While there were just over 100 banks in a FedNow pilot program, there’s no obligation to use the service and it’s not known how many will choose to do so.
- Will FedNow invade my privacy? Since this will be a bank-operated system, the same privacy infrastructure that exists around other payment systems will apply. Like it or not, your basic information is all over your non-cash payments, from your credit cards to your bank checks, which have a lot of information about you written right on them. If you want more privacy, stick with dollar bills.
- Is FedNow a step toward a digital currency? Various commentators on social media have suggested FedNow is a scheme to phase out physical cash or part of a plan to introduce an official, government-backed digital currency to replace the dollar. (Some politicians, including long-shot Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., have seized on some of those talking points, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has railed against the idea of a central bank digital currency in the US.) The Fed denies this, saying the new payments service will simply be a faster way to move deposits and that it will continue to provide notes and coins for those who still want to use cash. The people most responsible for the declining use of hard currency are consumers themselves. Commercial payments in cash dropped to about 20% in the pandemic year of 2020 from 30% in 2017.

2023.06.02 00:34 cr34ms1cle My experience meeting Kurtis Conner today
| Today…. Was just amazing. Kurtis had his Pop-up shop Downtown Toronto today and to say that I was had a great experience would be an understatement. My day started by taking the train to the closest station to the venue. I proceeded to wait in line with my son for over three hours. Kurtis’s manager made his rounds every 30 minutes or so to give the people waiting in line bottles of water. At one point, his manager asked if I wanted to come in ahead of everyone else because of the heat and my son’s fussiness and I refused because people had been waiting longer than I had. He accepted my decision and went back inside. 30 minutes later, we were all allowed into the venue (the rumour was that Kurtis had other affairs to attend today and he had left). I was escorted over to the elevator and went to the 3rd floor where the pop up shop was being held. The merch was cute and I eagerly stood in line. As I was waiting in line, his manager approached me and told me to come with him to this room on the far right corner of the shop. I was very confused and he told me that I wasn’t in trouble. He closed the door behind him and I was nervously waiting with my son for a few seconds. And then….. KURTIS FUCKING CONNER APPEARED!! I was shook. He was so awkward and sweet. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A FANFIC BUT IM NOT JOKING!! This is just…. I’m still speechless. We took photos and I commended him for his amazing channel and videos. Kurtis thanked me for being a fan of the channel. The manager asked for my name like three times and I was like…. Hmm. Okay. Odd but I went with the flow. I left the room and entered the shop again. I stood in line for another 30 minutes and when I finally went to the checkout to choose my merch, they TOLD ME IT WAS FREE AND ON THE HOUSE OMG!! I told them that I had to pay and I wouldn’t accept free merch and the cashier told me that it was what his boss told him to do. I left with a sweatshirt, a t shirt and a tote bag. I’m… still shook. Kurtis Conner literally gave me free merch. I’m still not sure what to do with myself right now. I’m still in a daze. Today has been such a great day. TLDR; I met Kurtis Conner and admittedly got very special treatment. He allowed me to take a photo with him and gave me free merch 😭💗 so happy. submitted by cr34ms1cle to kurtisconner [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 00:29 NancyAurum Debuking the "Nancy Follows Trends" Accusations
| I have recently found myself facing accusations of following trends and jumping on the machine learning bandwagon, particularly after the release of GPT-3. However, I must clarify that my interest in Markov Models predates the emergence of GPT-2, dating back to 2007 when I embarked on the Symta programming language project that required a pattern matching engine. My knowledge of generative grammars and Markov models originated from a Common Lisp example, although I swiftly dismissed the single token-approach due to the inherent limitations of natural language as a context-free grammar. At that time, I actually developed a rudimentary attention-based Markov Model, employing a voting process to establish correlations between various elements within the input and output in the C programming language (which I elaborated upon in my book, "One Life in Russia"). My aim was to handle the entire state as a whole and transform it into multiple output values, rather than a single token, in order to achieve greater generality. Unfortunately, the model proved to be prohibitively slow, and lacking any reference to existing research literature, I ultimately abandoned the project, returning to the classic POP-11/Refal pattern matching paradigm. Subsequently, I chanced upon the concept of word embedding, which involved the introduction of a vector space to represent natural language words. While intriguing, this approach did not offer significant utility for my language project at the time. Regrettably, I failed to recognize how it could optimize the functioning of the Markov model. Moreover, my understanding of linear algebra was limited, as I regarded it solely as a tool for 3D graphics, rather than recognizing its broader applicability, including its relevance to Markov Inference as a matrix multiplication. I possessed knowledge of KD-trees and BSPs, but their connection to Markov models eluded me. Consequently, I dismissed these advancements as mere academic noise. Suddenly, another transgender individual contacted me, expressing that Markov Models were now capable of performing advanced pattern matching and more. I was taken aback and questioned how this problem had been solved. This prompted me to delve into the current research, and I discovered the elegant methodologies employed to address the issue. It made me wonder if it was finally feasible to integrate the solution into Symta, which had always been my aspiration. Therefore, I must emphasize that my engagement with Markov Models predates any trendiness; rather, I am genuinely enthusiastic about the elegant resolution of a problem that I previously found too challenging for my skills. Nevertheless, even if I had possessed the necessary mathematical proficiency, I would have been unable to construct a robust model for such complex pattern matching. https://preview.redd.it/f692kes8gh3b1.png?width=1879&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5e687022e817aae8380dbc98cafebe6af7243c7 https://preview.redd.it/4fot9s6agh3b1.png?width=1882&format=png&auto=webp&s=8af9a46356a6173c5bfe6229ac42784b5a21035f submitted by NancyAurum to symta [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 00:27 okdepend Being really needy with my friends post breakup
I (28m) have never been a very clingy person. I'm usually quite self contained, happy to have a weekend in if everyone is busy, no drama, no fuss.
6 months post breakup (8 year relationship). Moved back to my home city where I have a good supportive group of friends. I live alone now, after living with my ex doe 5 years.
I find myself being unbelievably clingy for my friends' time, in a way I've never been like before. I'm constantly asking them if they're free, constantly trying to organise things, clearly absolutely terrified of spending a weekend alone.
I see them all the time, but I dont have many new friends outside of that group so if they're busy I'm screwed. They're all in relationships and understandably want to have chill weekends at times, but they seem to get very anxious and seem to dread telling me that they're busy when I ask if they're free. I totally understand and have no issue with them being busy, but their level of remorse in telling me that they're busy made me realise that I'm very demanding of their time and they know I have no one else to hang out with, and I hate to have put that kind of pressure on our friendships and I'm scared of overburdening them to the point where I become a big awkward presence.
I know the cause - I'm scared of being alone after a long relationship.
I know the solution - be at peace with spending time alone and/or find additional friends and branch out a bit.
But how the hell do you make new friends as an adult!? Has anyone else also experienced being uncharacteristically clingy and demanding on their friends post breakup?
More of a rant than a question I know.

I’m the sort that never understood the complaint about ads. I skip ads with 45 second skips so it isn’t a big deal. I just got the subscription to show my support of the pods.
But todays episodes of ICHH (great series about the border from James, if a little depressing) and BtB have been really lovely without ads. The ad music is just a nice little interlude between sections. The tone shifting about getting lucky or leftovers or gold or online degrees, even in tiny bits, really messes with the flow of episodes.
I highly recommend the ad free experience if you have the means.
Edit: loftus content alert!! Jamie is guesting on

2023.06.02 00:23 acryptotalks The Reality In Monetizing User-Generated Content
Is all jobs real job? Let's have a look at one unique solution discovered recently.
Good quality content needs to be rewarded. A lot of social media users today spent time online without earning just because of a lack of the right information. Imagine, you pick information about a project and share it through your social media account, you should be rewarded for creating good content because you have consumed time and resources. This is where Social Mining becomes something of importance, this is never hardware mining. This is a solution that monetizes all your activities on social media.
This idea valued users' time, skill, and resources and create a merit-based system to reward their community members for contributing to organizational growth. With its fair decentralized autonomous organization governance solution, digital footprints and public awareness is achieved for a centralized and decentralized organization and rewards are dispersed accordingly through the same solution to all the members.
Becoming them member of this community is free, you only need a social media account (Twitter) with a minimum number of followers of at least 50, and you will start generating rewards for your activities. Let's start the discussion by dropping your comment, and let's analyze more on this solution more because it gives multiple streams of income and have nothing to do with hardware mining.

2023.06.02 00:19 Unjust_Whistle A Reflection on the RDR2 Video: (Rousseau was a Soy Boy, Burke was a simp for the past, and Dutch is an Enlightened Despot)
| https://preview.redd.it/bnf5szdssg3b1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=e2fe085c686149b7aab7c019ef426cc15adcd01c The recent video Red Dead Redemption 2: Was Dutch Right (Sorta)1, by u/DJ_PeachCobbler , was a deconstruction of the flaws of the enlightenment. While watching I was hoping to see something about Rousseau, as all of that french revolution stuff was influenced by him. I was glad to see Cobbler use a direct quote that accurately described Rousseau. I love studying the enlightenment, and I have some reflections to share on the same concepts. This post will first discuss the involvement of Rousseau in the vid, then the Cobbler's analysis of Dutch as an Enlightened Despot, and then finish with commentary on how Arthur's attitude rejects Dutch's philosophy. The video's commentary on the origins of the enlightenment is great, but it won't be discussed here. Lets get the master of contradiction, the citizen of Geneva, the degenerate himself, Rousseau out of the way. This guy loved to have relationships with older women, and loved to expose his bare ass to them in public, then lunge backwards at them, hoping they would spank him. The dude ambandoned all his children to die in an orphanage, while being an advocate for proper child care. He called himself a citizen of Geneva, despite being banned from Geneva. He would confess to all this himself in his book "Confessions" 2. He did this while living with David Hume. He believed Hume was spying on him, and avoided him at all costs. It turns out the crazy fucker was right, and Hume was spying on him. Cobbler could not be more wrong when he said that his writing was dry and boring. Any book written by a deranged crazy person, who was correct in his paranoia, about the crazy shit he did is entertaining. Cobbler uses his philosophy correctly in a general sense, but since the title was about Dutch it would have been great to see some of Rousseau's other work. The Social Contract3 would have been great to see in the video. Not just for the first line "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains", but also for Rousseau's "general will", and "legislator". Which lead to justification of every kind of violence, from Robspiere to Stalin. Rousseau would go on to burn part of his manuscript for The Social Contract because he thought it was dangerous, but what he did publish is the same enlightenment bullshit Cobbler discusses in his video. The use of violence for enlightened ideas is perfectly encapsulated in The Social Contract. Rousseau blends the enlightenment ideals of popular sovereignty with authoritarianism. Rousseau believed that the government should rule for the common good (The General Will). This arbitrary General Will is said to be easily identifiable by Rousseau. But since self interested individuals (like maybe criminals, or industrialists) will not want to push for the common good, then an aristocracy must enforce it. Rousseau goes further to identify the aristocrat, the "Legislator", that must condition the people to be receptive to the general will. In his book about the social contract Rousseau advocates for a "legislator" to enforce a vague "general will" on the people, for their own good. If Dutch read this, he would certainly latch on to it and use it as justification for his own control. This directly supports Cobbler's claim that the corruption of Dutch comes from enlightenment ideas, not just personal greed. When the gilded age, the founding fathers, and Tacitus are brought up it would have been great to hear more about Rousseau. In many ways the control over the gang Dutch says he is advocating for is found in Rousseau. Dutch's hypocrisy can be seen as Rousseau's hypocrisy. It is almost impossible to enforce enlightened ideals with sheer violence as a powerful leader, without becoming a despot. To be an enlightened despot then really means becoming a leviathan. Hobbes (a part of the late Scientific Revolution/early Enlightenment [1649]) says in Leviathan4 that life without a violent government is "Solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short". His solution to this is to have a government that strips the people of some of their individual rights, in exchange for order, this deal is not meant as voluntary. This is the original social contract. While people like Dutch claim to be acting in favor of the people's best interest, what they are really doing is enforcing a Hobbesian contract. The members of the gang are forced to participate in Dutch's schemes because he is the leader that secures the group, it is a part of the deal to follow what he says. The reason they follow is because of a belief in the ideals that Dutch will never uphold. Arthur's opposition to Dutch is described as just doing the right thing, or taking care of folk. Cobbler uses this to oppose the bullshit that people who take Rousseau's Social Contract to heart. However, it goes further than just denying the influences of the french revolution. Instead it is a fundamental disagreement on what the purpose of the gang is. While they are definitely criminals, the gang claims to be for it's members. Dutch sees this as a system that needs a leader to guide it, a la "legislator" from Rousseau, but Arthur sees it differently. Edmund Burke was a member of the English Parliament in 1789, he published an open letter named Reflections on the Revolution in France5 . In this letter he denounced the enlightenment ideals of the Social Contract. He would say that a country is an agreement between the living and the dead, as well as those who are not yet born. Where as Dutch sees the group as his responsibility, Arthur sees the group as a agreement where the security of the members are most important. Because the gang is not a medium by which ideals can be enforced, but a method for securing the people in the group. It is an agreement between the members of the gang to fight for the group to stay alive that kept it going, when Dutch decided to blow that up in favor of his idealism fueled fever dream the gang truly died. Whether this was in the last chapters of RDR2 or before the game even starts, does not matter. While Arthur would never say what Burke did, his attitude towards Dutch's so called "progress" mirrors Burke's response to the Rousseau fueled french revolution. If you haven't already, watch u/DJ_PeachCobbler video. I never saw a connection between the enlightenment and RDR2 before watching it, although maybe I should have. Our modern society is defined politically, in part, because of Rousseau and Hobbes. Include Locke and Smith into that for America. This has lead to us adopting the same contradictions of the enlightenment, Red Dead Redemption 2: Was Dutch Right (Sorta) shows that. Endnotes: - DJ Peach Cobbler. 2023.06.02 00:08 NBAjjchamberlain NBA Finals 2023 - Five Strategies to Watch
This year’s NBA Finals is already historic. The Heat are the first play-in team to claw their way out of a 44-38 record and 8th seed to land themselves in the NBA Finals. The Nuggets have never made a Finals, had the best record in the battle hardened West and the city is absolutely stoked. What are NBA heads saying about the series? What are fans around the world hoping to see? How are coaches going to keep these ballers away from Denver’s number one trending story of the year: Shotgun Willie’s Gentleman’s Club, which infamously siren songed the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant into stacking cash on every inch of the private dance room? Slap a booty and get ready for the last NBA basketball of the year.
Thanks for reading JJ’s Substack! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
1 - How to stop Nikola Jokic?
The two time MVP is having yet another killer season. He’s been, arguably, the best player in the playoffs of all time. He’s averging a triple double on 29.9 points, 13.3 assists, 10.3 rebounds and around 1 block and 1 steal per game. This guy can do it all and has undoubtedly contributed to the Heat coaching staff’s lack of sleep. Luckily the state just decrminalized a fanny pack of plant based drugs that may help.
Everyone knows how much the Heat love running zone defense. Can the zone even stop Jokic? Doubt it but the Heat are going to try. They run a fluid 2-3 zone which can flow directly into a 1-3-1 formation. The Heat need to pack the middle of the floor and push Jokic to the sidelines on the pick and roll using their 1-3-1. If the Heat can keep Jokic out of the middle of the floor that limits his options on the center-point guard pick and roll that he runs to perfection with Jamal Murray. Look for easy rebounds and putbacks on the weak side from Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter Jr.
Can the Nuggets outshoot the zone? Damn right they can. Will they? We’ll see. The Heat run out and defend every single three point attempt. They held the sharp shooting Boston Celtics to 30% from 3, down from 37% during the regular season. However, this series may be won from the three point line if the Nuggets can run and the Heat can get Butler into the lane for kickouts.
2 - Who can guard Jimmy Butler?
Aaron Gordon most likely. We will see if he’s too slow to stay in front of Jimmy. If Butler still has that nagging injury he’s been battling the past two series that will help out AG. There are a couple bodies that the Nuggets can throw at James Effin Buckets. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is an underrated defender with sneaky strength. Reggie Jackson is rusty but used to be able to defend at a high level. Bruce Brown has the heart of fiesty chihuahua but he’s too small. Jamal is too small too. We’ve all seen what Jimmy’s done to smaller guards, he’ll bully his way to the lane and make defenders look stupid with his pump fakes, footwork, interior passing and little chip shots. If Jimmy gets stuffed this series, who will show up for the Heat?
3 - Malone vs Spo
Erik Spoelstra has solidified his standing as one of the greatest coaches of the era, possibly all time. This will be his 6th NBA Finals since taking over the reigns from Pat Riley in 2009. I have no doubt that Spo has some tricks in the bag and having the Godfather on speed dial doesn’t hurt either.
But Malone is no stranger to NBA legacies. His father Brendan was an assistant for the champion Pistons in the late 80’s and then again with the Knicks Finals run in 1999 and the Reggie Miller Pacers in 2000. Michael himself was an assistant during LeBron’s first Finals in 2007. So he does have some experience here in the promised land.
This coaching matchup will come down to, you guessed it, in-game adjustments. Each coach’s ability to change on the fly will be crucial to finding the weak points in each other’s schemes. Every possession will matter in these games. Look for Malone to push the pace with his crew and try to get some quick transition buckets before the Heat can set up their defense. Jokic excels in the rebound-and-go game. In the half court, Malone will try to move Jokic around to different points on the floor and it will be especially interesting when he puts Joker back to the basket in the post. He has the passing, vision, strength, length and creativity to be dangerous that close to the basket.
Spoelstra on the other hand will walk the ball up, play through Butler and try to swing the Nuggets defense from side to side. Expect him to set up Duncan Robinson and Max Strus on the wings where they can be dangerous driving or shooting the three off the Butler-Bam Adebayo pick and roll. Kevin Love can still knock down an open jumper and may have some post move tricks up his sleeve. But he’s so old he can’t even drive a golf cart anymore. Love can be another big body that Spo can put on Jokic to give him different defenders.
4 - Bench Scoring - Who will shine?
The bright lights may burn the bench guys but some will bask in the glory. Kyle Lowry is due for a big game after struggling against the Celtics top tier wing defenders. The Nuggets don’t have the bench defense to hold down all the Heat shooters so we will see a game won by a Heat backup, like we’ve seen in plenty of games so far this playoffs.
The Nuggets bench has issues. Jeff Green is too old. Christian Braun is too young. Reggie Jackson and Thomas Bryant have yet to work their way into the rotation. DeAndre Jordan is a mascot. However, expect some decent minutes from…Vlatko Cancar if the Heat bench is outperforming Green, Brown and Braun. Cancar can guard Love and Robinson. Really this Nuggets bench goes how Bruce Brown goes. If he has a hot game on both ends, the bench looks unstoppable. If he withers like a winter flower then the Heat bench will dominate like they’ve done all year.
5 - The crowd, the altitude, the experience, the refs
Intangibles. The stuff numbers can’t measure. The Nuggets crowd will be loud, fired up and intense. The Heat crowd, not so much. They’ve been spoiled over the years, show up late and leave early. They do wear the white shirts though which looks nice but makes the empty seats even more noticeable.
Do players play worse at altitude? Short answer, yes. Long answer, it depends. The altitude will effect the Heat at the beginning and end of games. The biggest concern is dehydration which means keeping the Heat out of the club and focused on basketball. Heat culture will play a big role here with everyone, top to bottom, 100% ready for each game.
The Heat have much more experience in the Finals than the Nuggets. They have two NBA champions in the rotation in KLove and KLow, three if you count the corpse of Udonis Haslem. They also have a few returning from their 2020 bubble Finals against the Lakers where they lost a heartbreaker to an Anthony Davis fall away three. This grizzled Heat team will be angry and hungry but what else is new? Their Finals experience may end up being the overriding factor in this series, especially among the coaching staffs. The Heat will stay calm and collected even with the intensity through the roof.
Finally, the NBA’s middle management, the refs. Who does the NBA want to win? What will revenue more? This is a coin flip. With the Lakers, Knicks, Celtics and Warriors all on the couch, gone fishin’ or 1-2-3 Cancunin’, the refs will likely call this series as even as they can. A Jokic ring would be the icing on the cake for Eastern European basketball which hasn’t ever had an MVP champion.
So who ya got? The Nuggets in 5 seems like a solid bet at +225 against a hobbled Heat team. But if the Heat push it to six and get back home expect them to finish hard and force a game 7. Heat in 7 is +1000 and it’s tough to bet against them the way they’ve defied all odds.

2023.06.02 00:05 PercentMage9 How would I remove little bugs from a CRT?
Hi all, I just recently got a small CRT with a built in DVD player from Facebook Marketplace (it was a free-be, so there's no way I could have turned the offer down), I mostly wanted it so that I could watch some DVDs on a CRT without the hassle of having an external DVD player set up. Anyways, after bringing it in, I noticed that it has some <1mm big little orange-ish bugs crawling around both on the outside and inside and they definitely seem to be from the TV and not something from mine that has passed them onto it (good thing I haven't brought it into the house yet lol). I have tried blowing the inside out with compressed air as well as hoovering the outside/giving it a good wipe down however the bugs still seem to be on it. TLDR: does anyone have a good solution for removing these little pests without damaging/major disassembly of the CRT? Thanks.

2023.06.01 23:42 hellspawnofPlurge I can't stand living with my FIL
I (26F) have been with my husband (31M) for 2 and a half years (married for 6 months) and I have lived with him and his dad almost our whole relationship. I can see how our relationship and marriage probably seems very rushed but I don't have any issues with my husband himself so I don't really think that's relevant. And I guess I'm only here to rant so it probably doesn't even matter. I think to start I will say we bought our home just over 2 years ago. (I'm not going into the details here because it would make this post massive, but I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments if our timeline or living situation seems odd) My husband is independent and does well for himself. He's just always lived with his dad. They started a business together around 10 years ago, it's not big but it does well. They have no employees, and they work together and share a bank account. I guess it had just always made sense for them to live together since they shared funds that way. When we moved into our new home the plan was always to find a place his dad could live by himself (he will be 66 this year and at the time it didn't seem far fetched. My grandparents are independent well into their 70's after all) But things changed after his dad was hospitalized.
In short, he's never taken care of himself, and believes doctors are idiots. He ignored having high blood pressure for almost 10 years to my horror. He was held in the ICU for over 2 months after having 16 mini strokes and the removal of a brain tumor (1 of 2 tumors supposedly benign but I don't know all the details because it was a lot of information at the time) The doctors also said he has many other issues including early stage dementia.
Since leaving the hospital I've been very stern with him and make sure he's always taking his medicine and going to any doctors appointments that his primary needs him to attend.
It's been a nightmare ever since. I'm not heartless. I know it's not reasonable to make him live alone, I know he'd probably die very quickly.
But he's mean, and very demanding of my husbands attention. He doesn't have a good relationship with any of his other children (I think I was told my husband has 6 siblings but I've only met 1 and they're just not close) who all live very far away, and he has no friends so he exclusively relies on my husband for companionship.
My husband is a kind man and trying to make everyone happy. But if we ever want to go out I get put through the ringer because FIL hates when husband isn't home in the evenings and will yell at and berate him for abandoning him if we're gone for more than a couple of hours. If I have company over he complains that we're pushing him out of the house he lives in. We have to cook him separate meals because he is an extremely picky eater after being in the hospital. He complains endlessly but when solutions to his problems are offered he won't hear it. He smokes a whole pack of cigarettes and drinks half a case of Mountain Dew every day so his health isn't getting better.
I've already brought up retirement communitys with nursing care and check-ins (I think full on assisted living would be too cruel) but my husband won't hear it. He's too afraid of abandoning his dad. But I don't want to live with him. I want to be a young child free adult and live independently. I'm not going to leave my husband over this, he's probably having a worse time than me dealing with this.
I'm so depressed. I'm afraid that I'm just starting to wait for my FIL to die because it's the only way I'll have freedom in my own home
I feel absolutely rotten.

2023.06.01 23:42 timbradleygoat My mood seems to be almost completely dependent on recent validation from others. Is there any way out of this?
tl;dr if I've received validation from people recently, I am content, confident and love to live life. If I haven't, I'm depressed and near hopeless. Is there a solution besides trying to find consistent sources of validation?
My trauma was developmental; I (29M) did not feel love or emotional care from my parents growing up. I am only just realizing the impact this had on me. When I receive validation - which I'll define as attention, interest, appreciation, or love - from people in life, I become what (I hope) is my "normal" self. I am fairly happy, I am optimistic about the future, I am inspired to try new things and meet new people, and I want to help other people however I can. When this validation is withdrawn, or some time has passed since I last received it, I become depressed. I feel hopeless, I do not have interest in new things or people, and I no longer want to help people.
The changes between these two moods is often abrupt. I'll give a weird but illustrative example from last weekend. I was having what should have been a nice Saturday. The weather was nice, I visited an art museum and I rode my bike around the city, all things I like. But I had not been recently validated, so I was depressed. Then I checked my phone and noticed I received a new Hinge like from a woman who seemed enthusiastic to talk to me. IMMEDIATELY I felt my mood rising. Suddenly I was happy, and felt that way the rest of the day. I'm fully aware this is not ideal, and realized this at the time. I actually laughed out loud at myself and said "this should NOT be affecting me like this."
Unfortunately though, this is the case. I need hits of validation like this, big or small, and I need them constantly. It also doesn't seem to be something I can control consciously. When I got that like, I didn't think "I have a new like, which means I matter as a person," and good feelings flowed from that thought. My mood improved even though I knew that like wasn't that big of a deal.
Some other examples:
- I instant message two coworkers who work in other states. They don't respond in the same day. I feel neglected and get depressed. They follow up with me and apologize the next day. Now I feel good again.
- I attend a wedding with all of my closest college friends (we all live apart now). It's as if no time has passed and I have a great time. These positive feelings last a few days, then the depression returns.
- Two members of my work team from other states visit my workplace for a week. We work closely and get lunch and dinner together each day. I feel validated. Not long after they leave and I'm working mostly alone, I feel depressed again.
One way out of this would be to treat the symptom. I could look for consistent sources of validation. I could look for a relationship with an understanding woman. I could find a social group with supportive people. I could leave my job for one where my team members are local. I've had each of these in the past, and they do work. Of course, none of them actually fix the problem, and the relationship ending, the social group disbanding, or the conditions of the new job changing would have a dramatic effect on my mood.
But ideally, I would eliminate the need. When I haven't been validated in some time, it wouldn't bother me, because I know I matter, I have people who care about me, I have my life in order, I take care of myself, and the future is bright (all things I believe no matter what, but don't seem to change my mood). My question is, is this possible? Is there a way to get rid of this deep dependence and neediness? I'm discussing this with my therapist but wanted to see if anyone here has experience with something similar.
Thanks for any support you can provide.

2023.06.01 23:27 Hereforthepeople1 Major Issues with Verizon 5G Internet - A Gamer's and Remote Worker's Nightmare
I feel it's important to share my recent experience with Verizon's 5G Internet service, which has been catastrophically underwhelming. As a gamer and a remote worker, reliable and fast internet is not just a luxury, it's a necessity. Being surrounded by Verizon towers, I assumed I'd benefit from a solid 5G experience. Unfortunately, this has not been the case.
The first warning sign was the massive packet loss and packet bursts I experienced during online gaming - a disaster for any gamer. Games demand a consistent data flow, and with this unstable connection, lag and connectivity issues have been a maddening constant. The most frustrating part? These problems persisted even while I was hardwired to the modem.
But this issue extends beyond just gaming. Working from home requires a dependable internet connection, too. On numerous occasions, my work has been disrupted by these persistent connectivity issues, causing significant delays and added stress. By the way, all of my devices are hardwired to the modem during this entire process!
My girlfriend, who also works from home, had an even worse experience. She hasn't been able to connect her laptop to the WiFi at all. In a world where remote work is becoming increasingly prevalent, this level of service is simply unacceptable.
Seeking a solution, I reached out to Verizon, suspecting my modem might be the root cause. It was an older model, and I was only getting around 25 Mbps. They suggested a replacement due to their inability to update the firmware on my current model, blaming the firmware on the equipment being from 2022.
Eager to resolve this, I went to a Verizon store, got the new modem, and hurried home. Plugged it in, fingers crossed, only to be met with the same dismal speeds and my girlfriend being unable to get a strong enough signal to connect to the internet. The new modem hadn't solved the problem. All the time, effort, and money spent on it felt utterly wasted.
So here I am, stuck with my initial problem of low speed, unreliable connection, and a new modem that hasn't improved anything. I'm not just disappointed - I'm frustrated and let down.
I wanted to share this story so that others who rely on their internet for gaming and work from home know what they might be getting into with Verizon 5G. For me, it's been a disastrous letdown.
I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions from the community. Meanwhile, it seems I'll need to explore other service providers.
TL;DR: Verizon 5G has caused me significant issues in gaming and remote work due to massive packet loss and slow speeds, despite being hardwired to the modem. Upgrading to a new modem didn't help. My girlfriend hasn't been able to connect her laptop to the WiFi at all. Open to any and all suggestions.

2023.06.01 23:23 Neptunianx Friendship advice, kind of?
Ok, so I don’t even know where to start here. I have someone in my life who’s been clinging on to me for over a decade. It started off with my mom making me play with her bosses granddaughter.
Anyway, I never really clicked with her, she was always very demanding and as a doormat of a human I always tried to give her what she wanted and knowing it would effect my mom too if her bosses granddaughter wasn’t happy it always felt easier to just go with the flow when she’d come to town.
Now we’re adults, and for some reason she always expects me to jump for joy when she comes to town, and man I barely have enough time for my own friends. She’s staying from July to October and is going to expect me to make tons of time for her, drive her around to the mall, to get ice-cream, the works. I just am dreading this, I have a job, husband, child. I can’t be her entertainment all summer. It’s just not really fair for me to take this on when I have my own life now. As kids it was like ok whatever I have to bring her along to do my kid stuff, frustrating, but also I didn’t have any responsibilities really other than chores so giving up free time wasn’t as painful as it is now.
How can I be free of this burden I’ve been carrying since childhood, I hate saying it that way, but man I didn’t foresee this carrying on into adulthood. I thought at some point she’d let me go.
One time I had taken her to the mall, we wrapped things up and my husband(boyfriend at the time) called and said he had locked himself out so I said ok I’ll have to drop you off at your grandmas now so I can let him in and she had a fit saying she needed ice cream so I had to leave my husband locked out for over an hour waiting on me because I lived at least 45 minutes from where she was staying. We were in our 20s like come on, ice cream isn’t that big of a deal?
I’m curious how I should go about this, would I be an asshole to stop catering to her now? Help 😓
