2023.03.20 23:31 LeedeOwO Is Uchigatana easy mode?

Hey Reddit, I've been playing Elden Ring and finished Renalla today and I like the game so far. After talking with some friends we realized that the game seems to be "easier" for me or at least some areas/bosses that I finish with less effort then my friends said they had. After a while they told me that it could be because of the Uchigatana, I started as a Samurai and use the Uchigatana as my main weapon without knowing how strong this starting class infact is. So now I've reached a point where I'm not sure if I want to keep playing the Uchigatana if it really just puts the game in "easy mode". What do you think about it or what would you say I should do?

2023.03.20 23:29 Meme_master420_ I asked ChatGPT (AI) to write a hotline miami movie script and sequel. Here's the results. Seems on par with how a Hollywood director would treat a hlm film adaptation without any passion for the source material

FADE IN:
INT. A SEEDY BAR - NIGHT
Jacket, a man in his mid-twenties, sits alone at the bar nursing a drink. The bartender eyes him warily.
BARTENDER You new in town?
Jacket nods.
JACKET Just passing through.
The bartender doesn't seem convinced.
BARTENDER You look like you could use a job. I know a guy who's always looking for muscle.
Jacket takes a sip of his drink, considering.
JACKET I'll think about it.
BARTENDER Suit yourself.
The bartender walks away, leaving Jacket alone with his thoughts.
CUT TO:
INT. JACKET'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Jacket is lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He's surrounded by newspaper clippings, each detailing a gruesome murder.
JACKET (to himself) This is what it's come to, huh?
He reaches for the phone and dials a number.
CUT TO:
INT. A DARK ROOM - NIGHT
Jacket is sitting across from a man in a suit, known only as "The Phone Guy".
THE PHONE GUY I hear you're good with a weapon.
JACKET I've been told.
THE PHONE GUY I have a job for you. A group of Russian mobsters have moved into town. They're making trouble for my associates.
JACKET What do you want me to do?
THE PHONE GUY Take them out. All of them.
Jacket nods.
CUT TO:
INT. A RUSSIAN MOBSTER'S HOUSE - NIGHT
Jacket bursts into the house, guns blazing. He takes out the first few guards with ease, but the rest of the gang is waiting for him.
A brutal gunfight ensues, with Jacket using every trick in the book to take out his enemies. He fights his way through the house, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake.
Finally, he reaches the mob boss. They stand across from each other, guns drawn.
MOB BOSS Who are you?
JACKET Nobody.
They fire at each other, and the mob boss falls to the ground.
CUT TO:
INT. THE PHONE GUY'S OFFICE - DAY
Jacket enters the room, covered in blood.
THE PHONE GUY (smiling) I knew I could count on you.

THE PHONE GUY There's always more work to be done.
Jacket nods, knowing that he's found his calling.
FADE OUT.
{continue the script}
FADE IN:
INT. JACKET'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Jacket is sitting in his apartment, surrounded by newspaper clippings of his recent kills. He's lost count of how many he's taken out.
JACKET (to himself) What have I become?
He hears a knock at the door and cautiously approaches it, gun in hand.
JACKET (CONT'D) Who is it?
VOICE It's me, Rick.
Jacket recognizes the voice of his neighbor and unlocks the door, peering through the crack.
RICK (surprised) Jacket, what's with the gun?
JACKET Just being cautious.
Rick enters the apartment and looks around at the clippings.
RICK You're not in trouble with the law, are you?
JACKET No, just taking care of some business.
RICK I don't want any part of this, man.
JACKET You won't be. Just stay out of my way.
Rick nods and quickly exits the apartment.
CUT TO:
INT. A SEEDY STRIP CLUB - NIGHT
Jacket enters the club and is immediately greeted by a group of thugs.
THUG Hey, you're not supposed to be here.
JACKET I'm here to see the boss.
The thugs laugh and move in on Jacket, but he easily dispatches them with his guns and fists.
He finally reaches the boss, a middle-aged man with a cigar in his mouth.
BOSS (smiling) I've been waiting for you.
JACKET What do you want?
BOSS I want you to take out a rival gang. They've been encroaching on our territory and I can't have that.
JACKET How much?

Jacket nods and leaves the club.

He reaches the top floor and sees the rival gang's boss, a young man in his early twenties.
JACKET (to himself) Kid doesn't know what he's gotten himself into.
He opens fire and a gunfight ensues. The young boss is no match for Jacket's skill and is soon lying on the ground, bleeding out.
Jacket makes his way out of the building, knowing that he's just made himself even more enemies.
CUT TO:
INT. JACKET'S APARTMENT - DAY
Jacket is sitting on his couch, looking at his hands. They're covered in blood.

FADE OUT.
{Continue the script}
FADE IN:
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
Jacket is standing in front of a group of men, all dressed in suits. The room is filled with boxes of drugs and money.
JACKET (to the men) What's the job?
LEADER We need you to take out a rival cartel. They've been causing problems for us and we need them eliminated.
Jacket nods, his expression unreadable.
JACKET How much?
LEADER Twenty-five grand.
Jacket nods again and takes the job.
CUT TO:
EXT. RIVAL CARTEL'S COMPOUND - NIGHT
Jacket approaches the compound, guns at the ready. He takes out the guards and begins to make his way through the building.
He reaches the top floor and finds the rival cartel's leader, a ruthless man in his forties.
JACKET (to the leader) It's over.
LEADER (smiling) You think you can stop us?
A gunfight ensues, with Jacket using all of his skills to take out the rival cartel's men. The leader is the last one standing, and he's no match for Jacket's speed and accuracy.
Finally, the leader falls to the ground, dead.
CUT TO:
INT. THE PHONE GUY'S OFFICE - DAY
Jacket enters the office, looking tired and worn.
THE PHONE GUY (smiling) You did good, kid. Real good.
JACKET (to The Phone Guy) I'm done.
The Phone Guy raises an eyebrow.
THE PHONE GUY Done?
JACKET I can't keep doing this. It's not who I am.
The Phone Guy considers this for a moment before nodding.
THE PHONE GUY I understand. But just know, if you ever need work, you know where to find me.
Jacket nods and leaves the office.
CUT TO:
EXT. JACKET'S APARTMENT - DAY
Jacket is sitting on his balcony, looking out at the city. He takes a deep breath and sets his gun on the table next to him.
JACKET (to himself) It's over. It's finally over.
FADE OUT.
{Write a Sequel to the previous script you just wrote}
FADE IN:
EXT. JACKET'S APARTMENT - DAY
Jacket is sitting on his balcony, enjoying a cup of coffee. He looks relaxed and content.
Suddenly, his phone rings. He hesitates for a moment before answering.
JACKET (on the phone) Hello?
THE PHONE GUY (V.O.) Hey, Jacket. It's me.
JACKET (sighing) What do you want?
THE PHONE GUY (V.O.) I need your help.
JACKET (shaking his head) I'm done with that life.
THE PHONE GUY (V.O.) I know. But this is different. It's personal.
JACKET (skeptical) What do you mean?
THE PHONE GUY (V.O.) One of my guys was kidnapped. I need you to find him and bring him back.
JACKET (resigned) Alright. Where do I start?
CUT TO:
INT. THE PHONE GUY'S OFFICE - DAY
The Phone Guy hands Jacket a file.
THE PHONE GUY This is what we know. The kidnappers are a small-time gang operating out of the industrial district.
JACKET (nodding) I'll check it out.
CUT TO:
EXT. INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT - NIGHT
Jacket makes his way through the dark and desolate district. He finally reaches the gang's hideout and sneaks in through the back.
He takes out the guards and makes his way to the back room, where he finds the kidnapped man tied up and gagged.
JACKET (to the man) Don't worry, I'll get you out of here.
As Jacket unties the man, he hears footsteps approaching.
Jacket readies his gun and waits.
The gang leader enters the room, flanked by his men.
GANG LEADER (smiling) Well, well, well. If it isn't the great Jacket.
JACKET (calmly) Let him go.
GANG LEADER (laughing) You really think you can take all of us?
A gunfight ensues, with Jacket using all of his skills to take out the gang members. Finally, he faces off against the gang leader, who puts up a good fight but is ultimately no match for Jacket's skill.
Jacket and the kidnapped man make their way out of the hideout, with the sun just beginning to rise.
CUT TO:
INT. THE PHONE GUY'S OFFICE - DAY
Jacket hands the man over to The Phone Guy.
THE PHONE GUY (smiling) I knew I could count on you.
JACKET (turning to leave) Don't call me again.
THE PHONE GUY (calling after him) Jacket, wait.
Jacket stops and turns back to face The Phone Guy.
THE PHONE GUY (CONT'D) You should know that there's a new player in town. They're making some big moves, and I think they're going to cause some problems.
JACKET (resigned) I'll keep that in mind.
FADE OUT.

2023.03.20 23:29 Ygdrowen Holy shit!!! I killed Malenia on my first try ever and it got me so stoked!

So I started playing Elden Ring a few months back, and I’ve played every other FromSoft as well. But I didn’t got around playing ER until now (stuff got in the way.)
I did manage to stay spoiler free until the end but watching some stuff online, looking up some guides and such still gave me enough info about a boss being incredible hard, and I managed to understand that boss was Malenia and it was in the Haligtree.
Still I had not seen any videos of the fight and didn’t know what to expect. What I did know was to have a solid plan if I wanted to succeed and I wanted to be able to kill this boss on first try.
So I choose my spells, geared up, equipped mimic. And went in to the room. As a sort of ‘proof’ you can se its my first try since the cinematics is showing at the start of the fight. Also, I get the trophy after - indicating first time killing her. I get some of you probably think this is just bragging for the sake of it or that I’m straight up lying or faking. But I’m proud! It felt awesome. link to video

2023.03.20 23:26 Upstairs-Argument-92 Critique would be helpful, and also appreciated

This is just the intro, and the 1st chapter of the book I'm working on, I'm going for a adventure/supernatural kind of thing, I haven't asked many people to read what I have so far, so I was hoping I could get some help here, thank you, and enjoy what I think I'm gonna name Lineage of Sin

Introduction
A human can do many things, some good, some bad, but they cannot comprehend the world that was given to them by god, but the men and women we’ll be talking about are not of this world, nor were they created by god. Well, I can’t say they are just men and women, they are more than that, I suppose you could call them beings of sorts. Powerful beings, so powerful their very own birthplace couldn't contain them, the pits of hell itself.
Chapter 1: Friendly Reunion
A man is walking down the streets of New York City, he was someone you would notice if you walked past him, his outfit was slightly unusual, but he was well-dressed. He wore a big black coat with fur on his sleeves and on his collar, underneath he wore a white dress shirt over a gray vest and a black dress jacket, with black tailored pants with gray dress shoes, Unusual looking rings on each of his finger on his left hand, and a large black briefcase with a white inlay in his right, and long white hair that went past his shoulders. The man was walking to his favorite restaurant, five-star of course, he had a craving for meat. The man hardly had a care in the world, just thinking about whatever he desired, but while lost in thought he managed to notice something that didn’t belong. Something he was hoping to avoid during his stay in New York, he realized he was being followed. The man realized he probably won't be able to make his reservation on time, so he looked through the corner of his eyes to see who or what was following him. A man dressed in formal attire, as if he is a lawyer, or an important company's Ceo, but the man knew better, he knew he wasn’t some average joe you’d see on the street. The man looked around his surroundings, he walked towards an alley he spotted on his right, the strange man continued to chase after him down to the alley, but when he looked down the alley there was no one there. The stalker carefully, yet casually walked down the alley, the stalker was worried he would be discovered, so he wanted to end his business quickly, he walked down to the end of the alley, nothing but overfilled garbage cans. The alleyway was a deadend, so he assumed that he may have climbed out of the alley, but he doubted it since there wasn’t much time for the man to do so, he was starting to to believe that he actually climbed out of the alley, since he was nowhere in sight. He decided to turn back around to continue to search for the man he was tasked with stalking. As soon as he reached the entrance to the alley, he heard the sound of rocks, rocks falling on the ground. He turned around to face the man he was stalking, who was standing in a hole in the ground. “You were hiding underground? What are you, a mole?” The stalker mockingly said. “More demon than mole, really. You smell human, but I sense a strong flow of magic coming off you, are you a mage?” The man questioned the stalker, hoping he could find the reason why someone sent a magic user to follow him. He had few people in mind who would do this, but he knew none of them had a reason to do it, so he will have to question the stalker to answer the questions he needs to know. “I’m a Conjuration Mage, a fairly good one, if I do say so myself, and I’ve been charged with escorting you to my employer.” The man sighed, he scratched the back of his head a couple times, it appeared to be a nervous habit, which is very unbecoming for someone like him. “Well, I guess it can’t be helped, you should know the chances of you making it out alive are pretty low, nothing against you, of course, I just think maybe we can both agree that I’m far stronger than you, that is of course, if you know who I am.” the stalker tsked, he had loosened his tie, so that he may toss it onto the ground. “Do I know who you are? You are one of the seven deadly sins, Mammon, the sin of greed, correct?” The man known as Mammon softly cackled, almost like a maniac, but more subtle, more like the craziness is under control, yet slowly leaking out. “Yes, you know who I am, but I don’t know who you are, you told me you’re a mage, but that isn’t a identity, that is a affiliation, and besides, I can tell just by looking into your eyes, that you take no pride in being a mage, you desire more than that, you want to be stronger, you want to be the strongest mage of all, an archmage.” The stalkers eyes widened, he had never told anyone his one true desire, the last time an archmage was alive was nearly 3,000 years ago, but he had read books upon books on how to become an archmage, but it all pointed nowhere, he has been trying to become an archmage for almost 20 years, but has failed in every attempt, granted that even if you trained your entire life to become a archmage, the chances of you achieving it are incredibly low, it requires true talent to become an archmage, but there just aren’t any genius around anymore. “It appears you aren’t called the sin of greed for nothing, you know exactly what my heart desires, what I have yearned for all my life, and my name is Samuel, Samuel the Golem Tamer.” Mammon whistled, as if he was impressed. “If you specialize in golems, than all that training to become an archmage wasn’t all for nothing, the last time I saw a mage who was actually good at controlling golems was about a thousand years ago, controlling one golem is immensely difficult on its own, but judging the quantity of magic I sense from you,you can control at least three of them at once, but I’m guessing they’re size is smaller than a normal golem.” “It’s like you can read my mind, yes your right, I can summon up to three at a time, but the size of them isn't all that impressive, so that's why I’m just going to make one big one to subdue you, I’m not ignorant enough to underestimate someone like you, a sin I mean.” Samuel had studied more than your usual mage, he knew very well who the seven deadly sins are, Lucifer the proud, Satan the furious, Leviathan the jealous, Beelzebub the voracious, Belphegor the indolent, Asmodeus the lascivious, and finally Mammon the avaricious, that is the demon that stands before this human mage, and he is also one of the five founder demons of hell. At the beginning of creation, god first made heaven, and then the earth, and finally he decided to create hell, but what god did not expect was that he would not be the only creator that day, out of some unknown source hell itself created the five founder demons, Satan, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, Mammon, and Belphegor, one of the benefits the founder demons discovered is that when they gained the powers of hell, or dark magic, they gained the power of the five elements, Mammon is the soil of hell, or also known as the earth, meaning he has complete mastery of earth magic, which is how he helped humans discover and mine gold, that is also how he was hiding in the ground, but when god learned that his own creation would follow his example, he was impressed and decided to let them be, later on these demons would consist of the majority of the seven deadly sins, Lucifer and the Leviathan would later be exiled to hell, after Lucifer rebelled against hell, with the Leviathan aiding him, god left the seven of them alone, he believed that they would figure something out on their own, and they all fought to see who would reign over hell, Lucifer ended up being the winner by a small margin, but what should be mentioned is that Mammon and Satan, the sin of greed and wrath, did not participate in this bout, they thought it would be a waste of time, but if the two of them did join that fight, the winner might not have been Lucifer, It may have been one of the two who did not participate for the thrown of hell, but we will never know for sure, but regarding all that, the demon who is standing infront of this human mage, is more far powerful than he realized. Mammon had walked towards Samuel, his left hand in his pocket, his right holding on to his, what appeared to be a briefcase, while he was walking towards him, Samuel had recited an incantation, when he had finished a barrier appeared at the entrance to the alley, leaving no way to escape, Samuel had done this for two reasons, one was to hide themselves from normal humans, on the other side of the barrier is an illusion, showing no one standing in that alley, when regular humans learn that a mage and a demon clashing in a small alley, there tends to be a bit of a panic, the second reason was to shorten the moves Mammon could make, he could not retreat or try to hold a human as a hostage, of course Samuel didn’t know that Mammon wouldn't have done either of them, he wouldn’t want to waste time like that, he decided to let it be and just let him continue with the whole good samaritan thing, letting him think he was helping people. “Mammon, I told you I specialize with summoning golems, which I do, but what I did not tell you that these are the golems of the ancients, a elemental golem, but I took that old magic and added something else to it, the fusion of elements.” Mammon had ceased his advancement, so he decided to jump back a couple steps, with an excited, yet slightly nervous grin on his face. “I summon a golem made of water and lighting, with the earth as its base.” He gripped his wrist with his left hand, he raised it to the sky, then slammed it onto the ground, which formed a magic circle, and what came from it was a golem, made of rocks, infused with the power of water and lighting, a good way to subdue someone, a good shock could knock one out, so long as they aren’t human, if they weren’t they would surely die, but despite being a golem with more than one element, the size of it completely towered over a small building, to the point that it could hardly fit in the alley. “Your golem seems a bit cramped, since I’m nice I’ll help it out.” Mammon placed his hand on the ground, the space between the two buildings that made up the alley had expanded, he had shifted the earth under the buildings to expand the space of the alley. Samuel seemed surprised, it was the first time he’d seen the earth move buildings, so who could blame him? But he did not let that make him drop his guard, he knew who he was fighting, he knows that he could be killed, he commanded the golem to attack Mammon, the golem swung its arms around, splashing water in every direction, Mammon, however, stomped his foot on the ground, causing a pillar of earth to shield him from being splashed. Samuel had forced the golem to turn it up a notch, to where the golem was shooting a condensed ray of water at him, causing the pillar t quickly erode and collapse, while the water beam had managed to hit him, he seemed fine, his clothes were soaked, which appeared to make him lose his temper, he swung his arm over in front of his body, and like magic, his clothes were dried, after he fixed his outfit, the golem had launched an assault of lighting magic in his direction, even though he himself was not drenched in water, the ground was, and with water being a good conductor for electricity, shocked Mammon to a extreme extent, if it wasn’t a demon standing in the middle of that, any other being would have been vaporized. Samuel had canceled his spell, in which made the golem fall apart, leaving nothing but rocks soaked in water, with electrical sparks coming from it, Samuel who seemed tired from using a large quantity of magic, managed to limp himself over to Mammon, who was lying on the ground, completely motionless, Samuel had assumed that he was unconscious, only to discover after he knelt to the ground to confirm it, that Mammon was not unconscious, he was faking it to lure him closer and make drop his guard, and as Samuel tried to back away, Mammon plunged his hand into his stomach, and piercing it clean through, he pulled his arm out which was soaked in blood, when he then cleaned it the same way he dried his clothes after the golem had drenched him. As Samuel was about to collapse to the ground, left to bleed out, and die, Mammon had grabbed him by shoulders, setting him against the wall, where he then sat next to him, hoping he could chat with him slightly longer, before he will ask him who his so-called employer is, Samuel does not have long left in this world, as one would expect after a hole was left in there stomach, for humans at least, Mammon had placed a magic circle on his fatal wound, causing it to slow the bleeding, to keep him around slightly longer, he didn’t want him to die mid-conversation, that would just be rude. “H-how did y-you resist the electrical shock? I didn’t hold back against you, I put just about everything into that.” While gasping for air, he wanted to know what made him fail, what led to him with a hole in his gut, while talking to a demon. “I am one of the seven deadly sins, unlike normal demons, I can’t just possess someone so easily, there are two conditions if one of the sins wants to possess someone, one, they must permit them to possess, like how angels do it, and the second is that they have to be part human, a sin cannot possess someone if they are human, just part human at least.” “So? What is the guy you are possessing?” He asked out of pure curiosity. “His name was Victor, and he is a Homunculus, a human that has been altered with alchemy, and since his whole body has been altered with a fusion of science and magic, this body is magic proof, sure you can place a spell on this body, but you can't harm it with magic.” After he finished explaining himself, he reached into a pocket inside of his coat, he pulled out a box of matches and pulled out what appeared to be a joint. It's better than cigarettes, but it’s a bad habit nonetheless. When Samuel saw him smoking it he chuckled. “I wouldn’t have pegged you for a smoker, marijuana no less.” “Are you kidding me? This is by far my favorite of humanity's creations, the only thing I hate about this thing is that I didn’t discover it, I would have killed to take credit for this, but as soon as I smoked this I was head over heels for it.” Samuel and Mammon laughed, almost as if they were long time friends, but Mammon knew the spell he placed on him wouldn't last any longer, so he decided to stop beating around the bush and start being serious. “You said that you would escort me to your employer, but I don’t suppose you know who and where this employer is?” Samuel sighed. “I didn’t get a name, but I did get a location I was supposed to leave you at, and in return he would give me a journal, the journal of Solomon, who was an archmage, and I was sure that I might be able to become one with it, but I’ll never know now.” Mammon had looked at him perplexed, he then thought to himself and then realized who was the mysterious employer. He let go of his briefcase he was holding with his right hand, and rubbed the ring on his middle finger on his left hand, and suddenly a black portal appeared, he reached into it and pulled out a book, the portal closed after his hand was out and he tossed the book over to Samuel. “That is the journal of Solomon, I bet your employer would have just gave you a knock-off, and regrettably it doesn’t tell you how to become an archmage, it’s just filled with him complaining about his responsibilities, don’t get me wrong, he was an archmage, but he was also a manchild, I too thought it would contain some juicy information, but nothing.”Samuel flipped through the pages in the journal, and Mammon was right, nothing but useless garbage, he placed the journal on the ground and looked to Mammon. “Thanks for being honest.” After his final words, thanking the one who killed him, he drew his final breath, while facing the sky, which he had hoped to reach with his own strength, but all things must come to an end. Mammon stood up, turning around to face Samuel once more, he had almost regretted killing him, but what's done is done, he flicked the joint out of his hands and faced the shadows of the alley. “I’m curious to know how you knew where I was, I thought I was being careful, wouldn't you agree, Mephistopheles? From the shadows of the alley, a man emerged from the dark, a man who appeared to be somewhere in his mid 60’s, but his look was more than just intimidating, mid-length gray hair, wore formal attire, similar to the outfit Samuel wore. His facial expression and the glare from his eyes said that you do not want to engage with him. “I would, if you hadn’t killed him, if you didn’t I wouldn't have found you, sin of greed, Mammon.” “Well it’s his own fault, wait a moment, now that I think about it, why was a human mage, out of all the creatures on earth, following me?’’ “He was cheaper, and more ignorant than the other mages I spoke to, so I placed a tracking spell on him, in case he died, and it appears he did, as well as stall for time.’’ Mammon had been annoyed about what he said about Samul, but he stopped caring as his suspicions grew of Mephistopheles, he wanted to know why this dangerous demon had a mage follow him, and try to kidnap him. “Stall, for what, exactly?” The tension between the two of them was thicker than steel, so tense that no one would dare step between them. “Why her, of course.” Mammon had felt a sting on his neck, he knelt to the ground, he pulled what was jabbed into his neck out, two vials with red stains in them, it appeared to be blood, but it had such a draining effect on him. He turned around so that he may see who just stabbed him in the neck, a woman with long scarlet red hair, wearing plain clothes, such as a hoodie with jeans and an old pair of sneakers on. “My, oh my, didn’t know you have such a bland taste of fashion, my little lustful Asmodeus, by the way, the hell is this stuff? It’s giving me a headache.” “Bland? I’ll have you know I'm quite comfortable, maybe you should follow my lead and try to fit in, I would be able to tell it’s you just by your outfit, also that stuff I pumped into you, is the blood of a priest, turns out it’s very harmful to demons, the blood of a priest won't kill you, but it can at least knock out a demon on your level .” First of all, I’m comfortable and stylish as well, hell, second of all, what do you want? I highly doubt the two of you, out of all the demons in hell, would team up just because you missed me, s-something important g-going down? As he was trying to act calm and keep his composure in check, the blood finally hit him, and his vision became blurry, the only thing he could do was listen to Asmodeus. “Yes, something is going down, and we’re gonna need the help from the rest of the sins.”

2023.03.20 23:24 falkentyne Elden Ring White Screen on startup fix

To prevent white screens on load 100% of the time, add this to the launch options.
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Has something to do with the renderer switching on launch, getting flagged by EAC as some sort of 'cheat' attempt, then the game hardlocking randomly.
This prevents the white screen 100% of the time but doesn't always prevent the GPU from crashing randomly on the black screen right before the logo appears.

Copying and pasting what I've posted before seems lazy but honestly, coming up with a different and more interesting way to present the same information about myself is just ridiculously hard. It's probably why I never hear back from interviewers.
Things I like, the lazy version: -White Album 2, the visual novel -House of Fata Morgana -Infinite Space, an old Nintendo DS game I've probably replayed over 10 times -SRPGs in general -Reading
-Writing -Fanfiction -Oregairu -Handball, although I haven't actively played in years -Fallen Hero Rebirth/Retribution -Keeper of the Sun and Moon/Day and Night/Life and Death -Light novels -Manga, although I haven't touched anime in over a year -Space -Singing badly
Random facts: -I've broken both hands back to back -I've dislocated my knee trying to jump over a bike to save a shot while playing handball -Learned the hard way that physical pain is easier to ignore and get over than emotional pain -Once had a resting heart rate so low that it would set off the hospital monitors by default. Trying to get back to that point right now. -I'm in the process of learning how to person again. -I'm apparently the type of person to make all or nothing decisions. If I'm being wishy washy about something that means I'm still undecided. -I'm also apparently the kind of person who gets burned once and well, let's just say that time does not heal all wounds. -I'm playing Baldr's Gate 3 now, but wouldn't mind getting back into FFXIV or modded Elden Ring Random things I think about, possibly controversial:
-Free will vs fate and how it's really all about control at the end of the day. The idea that the control of our lives is all in our hands vs the idea that the control of our lives is entirely out of our hands. Then I go down tangents like religion and willingly ceding control to some mysterious unseen figure as a form of ironically enough, asserting control. There's a difference between choosing to have no control vs being forced to have no control and people hate the latter. -The only meaning in life is whatever we make of it. Everything is meaningless until we ascribe whatever meaning there is to it. -Subjective truth. Thanks, The Things They Carried and high school creative writing.

2023.03.20 23:18 AhogadoEnImpuestos The unsatisfying "main villain turns into giant ass monster" trope

Imagine this: you start a game and a few minutes into it you’re presented with the main bad guy. You know it’s the main bad guy because he has a certain look and/or a certain personality, like red eyes, a devilish laugh, or a cocky “I own this place” face. Then the game makes sure you hate him by making him do something awful, like burning down your village or killing your grandma or something.
So the game gets going with your character finally having a motivation: to make this guy bite the dust.
A few hours go by and the main bad guy has only shown himself a few select times, which are all very methodical. He shows up for a second to tease you and then vanishes. He traps you in his lab before unleashing his scary failed-experiment creatures. He kills your sidekick. All these moments are meant to fuel your hatred for him, and to build up tension for the final battle.
And then you get to the end.
You’re both trapped with each other. There’s a ring of fire surrounding you. Your save file reads “89% completed” (you missed a few collectibles). It’s here, the moment you’ve been waiting for, the moment the game has been teasing from the very beginning…
And then he does a Goku scream and turns into a giant ass monster.
This is something that has bothered me for a long time, but the realization, the moment I first became conscious of my hatred for this trope, came to me while playing Guacamelee, of all games. The game builds up a confrontation with the main antagonist, Carlos Calaca, but when you finally get to him, what happens? He turns into a giant ass monster, of course. You DO get to fight him in his “regular” skeletal form for a bit, but the final FINAL battle is against this devil-looking creature you’ve never seen before or care about.
Dear devs, I couldn’t care less about how big you make these creatures. I couldn’t give less of a fuck about how many horns they have or how sharp their nails are or how red their skin is. When I get to the end of a game, all I truly want in life is to 40-hit combo the bad guy that killed my gradma.
This old wound was recently reopened when I played Resident Evil 8. The game first does this with Lady Dimitrescu—which is FINE I guess, since it happens rather early into the game and the battle against its giant-ass-monster form is pretty cool. But then the game does it again, and this time it stings much more. I was really looking forward to the battle against Father Gascoigne—I mean Walter White. He's this badass looking dude with a big hammer, he teases you, he makes you think you’re about to fight him only to blue-ball you many times... So you go through the majority of the game. You get to the factory, the place where Walter White resides. You beat that area and you finally come face to face with him. But then… something happens. As he’s tossing you out of the place, he turns into nothing more and nothing else than a giant ass monster. And this is where disappointment hit me like a truck, because I knew exactly what that meant: his “boss fight” wouldn't be against him, but against a giant ass metal monster. Why? Just why? Why would you tease this guy so much if I don't actually get to fight him? Why would you give Walter White a gigantic hammer if he’s never gonna get the chance to bash my face with it?
I mean, imagine if at the end of God of War 3, you come face to face with Zeus and he just turns into a huge thunder demon or something and you have to fight that instead. But no, GOW got it right. After a long build up across three whole games, it delivers exactly what you want: to beat the shit out of Zeus. ACTUAL Zeus, the muscular dude you’ve been chasing through the entire trilogy. And while he does turn into some kind of ghost at some point (I don’t remember very well), this is just a short phase that doesn’t take away the pleasure of repeatedly bashing Zeus’s bleeding face against a sharp rock :)
Please tell me I'm not alone here.

2023.03.20 23:16 EvreaoftheWind I REALLY enjoyed playing as a Paladin and thought I'd share.

So originally I didn't want to play a paladin because of the whole Holy Warrior with a sword and shield thing didn't really appeal to me. Then I thought why use a shield then! lol. Anyways I ended up absolutely loving it so thought it share the build I used, pics with a few sentences to explain what was going on in my play through for fun.
https://preview.redd.it/fbsj4c1a1yoa1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=bc6b5e21b675144ad21e76b4332c227a7ebb6ba3

Everything started simply. I was wondering around the world looking for a cause to serve when I suddenly had visions of gold that lead me to The Lands Between. The first time I saw the Erdtree I knew It must be protected and order must be put into place by restoring the Elden Ring. With that said I made my vow to protect the Erdree and restore order at all costs and took the name "Erdtree paladin".

Early/Mid game Build
Build wise I choose spells I thought reflected the Ertree and the Golden Order best IMO. Choose the armor to help boost the Aspect spells slightly and for looks.
Stats:
Vigor: 40
Mind: 20
Endurance: 20
Strength: 18
Dexterity: 13
Intelligence: 9
Faith: 70
arcane: 7
Class: Vagabond
Spells:
  1. Lightning Spear
  2. Lightning Strike
  3. Aspect of the Crucible: Horns
  4. Aspect of the Crucible: Tail
  5. Aspect of the Crucible: Breath
  6. Golden Vow
  7. Blessing of the Erdtree
  8. Protection of the Erdtree
  9. Great Heal
Weapons:
Finger Seal Early Game.
Erdtree Seal Mid/Late Game.
Lordsworn's Greatsword: Sacred Blade. Early Game.
Inseparable Sword: Sacred Blade. Mid game.
Armor:
Head: No head Armor.
Chest: Crucible Tree Armor.
Gauntlets: Crucible Gauntlets.
Leg Armor: Nox Greaves.
Talismans:
  1. Flock's Canvas Talisman.
  2. Warrior Jar Shard ( Yes i did feel like a horrible person ).
  3. Millicent's Prosthesis ( See above ).
  4. Dragoncrest Shield Talisman/Spelldrake Talisman/Flamedrake Talisman/Boltdraek Talisman.
There was something about the combo of a Greatsword, these spells, and Sacred blade Ashe of War that just kicked so much butt. Even though some bosses may have been resistant to Holy damage I honestly never noticed it much and the play style was very fun and rewarding.
https://preview.redd.it/6nxorbew1yoa1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=dc70329af56f2d95a1077e9191a4c42dc4e1cf74
\"The one who walks alongside flame, shall one day meet the road to Destined Death\" Melina
Eventually with the help of Melina I came to understand the only way to restore the Elden Ring was if I betrayed my vow and broke my Oath to protect the Erdtree by committing the Cardinal Sin of burning it.
Watching it burn I tore out my own eye so I never forget my sin and so the last thing it saw was the Erdtree burning.
I replaced "Lighting Spear" and "Lightning Strike" with "Giantsflame Take Three" and "Burn O Flame!" to reflect my broken vow and my new place as a Oathbreaker Paladin.
https://preview.redd.it/0ekjm85l1yoa1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4fc765578eb7c2cd6244d41b1b4993aaf85f5dc

And when I came across Maliketh and Destined Death I understood I was never doing the will of the Erdtee or even the Greater will. It was the same person that has been guiding me from the begining. Melina, The Gloam-Eyed Queen! With my broken vow, cardinal Sin, and newfound knowledge i continued my journey as..
The Death Knight

Red eyes, well eye....
At this point I completely changed my build to reflect my new place as a Death Knight and bringer of a return to the normal cycle of life and Death.
Stats:
Vigor: 40
Mind: 20
Endurance: 30
Strength: 50
Dexterity: 13
Intelligence: 9
Faith: 50
arcane: 7
Spells:
  1. Black Blade.
  2. Black Flame.
  3. Scouring Black Flame.
  4. Black Flame Ritual.
  5. Golden Vow.
  6. Blessing of the Erdtree.
  7. Protection of the Erdtree.
  8. Flame, Grant me Strength.
  9. Flame, Cleanse Me.
Weapons:
Maliketh's Black Blade: Destined Death.
Clawmark Seal.
Armor:
Maliketh's Armor.
Maliketh's Gauntlets.
Maliketh's Greaves.
Talismans:
  1. Flock's Canvas Talisman.
  2. Warrior Jar Shard ( Q.Q ).
  3. Millicent's Prosthesis.
  4. Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman/Spelldrake Talisman 2/Flamedrake Talisman 2/Boltdrake Talisman 2/Pearldrake Talisman 2.
With all things considered. The Gloam-Eyed Queen, Destined Death, The burning of the Erdtree I felt the Black Flame spells would work perfectly along with destined death and the usual buffs and wasn't disappointed how strong and fun the build was to play.

And thus the natural flow of life and death was returned.
In short, I started as a Paladin, became an Oathbreaker Paladin, and then after the Cardinal Sin of Burning the Erdtree, Breaking my Vow, being lead by the queen of Destined Death and ultimately Controlling it myself I became a Death Knight.
This was an extremely fun play through and probably the one I enjoyed the most so far.
Anyone else have a particular play through they loved?
Also forgive any grammatical or spelling errors, I'm not perfect.

2023.03.20 23:14 0111010101 Synthetic Space Angels

This concept derives from several fringe theories that are not necessary to the plot of a book but will help one to understand it and see where it could lead. Maybe material for a science-fantasy prequel, or a twist ending.
First, the intelligent plasma theory of paranormal and unidentified aerial phenomena. This is the idea that UFOs are sentient non-physical or para-physical beings. They could be naturally occurring, a form of life science has not yet identified. Under the right conditions, ball lightning could spring into existent, cause a bush to catch fire, and spontaneously gain consciousness--became an "I AM" who feels compelled to flag down the nearest prophet in the desert and talk his ear off.
Alternatively, there's secret US government technology that can project sound via laser. If fired from a satellite at a bush in the desert, the bush would ignite and appear to start talking.
A third possibility is that aliens could develop such technology. Not just sound projection but the actual intelligent plasma. That's what I call Synthetic Space Angels. So, an alien satellite shoots a laser at the bush and manifests intelligent ball lightning.
MORE FRINGE THEORIES
That hypothetical alien satellite could be what Philip K Dick called VALIS. I highly recommend that book, and skimming his Exegesis (about 8,000 pages of rambling notes he'd written trying to explain his mystical experience or psychosis). He thought that an alien satellite had hit him with a beam of pink light, and that it had struck other people the same way. Whether PKD knew this or not, self-identified alien contactees have reported similar experiences, being struck by a bright light and receiving sudden knowledge or communication from aliens, and gaining special abilities. Such people often go on to start UFO cults. (The movie Phenomenon, with John Travolta, was based on such contactee stories.)
Another possible source of the beam could be what John Keel called The Eighth Tower. He wrote a book theorizing that an ancient advanced civilization, or possibly aliens, built an artificial intelligence designed to watch over this planet and guide its development through contact with individual humans.
If a civilization developed Synthetic Space Angels, they could beam them across the universe at the speed of light, like non-physical robots, programmed to guide intelligent alien life in preparation for human colonization. This is the big concept.
EVEN MORE FRINGE THEORIES
Whether intelligent plasmas arise naturally or are sent here by aliens, it's possible that ancient technology developed to control them. This could be what built the pyramids. Imagine a pre-dynastic Egyptian using a scepter to command an intelligent plasma; it would look like magic. (It was said that Jesus went to Egypt and learned magic, which is how he was able to perform apparent miracles. The apparent magical ability of Moses could have worked the same way. Being a prophet is just a different way of interacting with intelligent plasma.)
The pyramids themselves may have been like enormous capacitors that, when discharged, created intelligent plasma. Or, they may have been like Star Gates for receiving them from another planet. The ascension of pharaohs may have been transformation of human into intelligent plasma, possibly beaming them off to the home world of the gods.
Another place this technology may have developed was in Ancient Israel. King Solomon possessed a ring that he used to command 72 demons to build the first temple. Same technology as the Egyptian scepter described above. "Demon" is just an unkind word for gods (intelligent plasmas) that aren't Yahweh. So-called demons may or may not be less powerful than Yahweh; it's not really relevant.
The Ark of the Covenant may have literally been a way to transport their god, to carry Yahweh into battle with them, just like they said it was. It probably would play out just like in Indiana Jones, if anyone were foolish enough to open it.
None of this stuff about Egyptians and Jews has to be true, in-world, but, if the technology to create Synthetic Space Angels were real, then it could be true. Realizing this could be a twist ending, like, "Oh no. We weren't the first to create this technology." Or it could be like, "Oh no. We are the aliens." Imagine this ending: a crazed, half-starved, alien is roaming the desert, when a bush spontaneously ignites and starts talking to him about religion.
I think that's pretty much all of it. Basically, the creation of non-physical robots for space colonization. If intelligent plasma were impossible, it would be nanobots, or larger space probes controlled by AI, but I like the mystical aspect of "gods" being involved.

2023.03.20 23:09 militxa What's the best route to take with a new character?

Hey guys, Just finished my first run in a year with a new character last night, explored the heck out of everything to try get most things like weapons, talismans, graces etc and won't be going into NG+ with this character as it'll be my main for DLC....
However I'm interested in starting a 2nd character and doing a strength/colossal build, Since getting most things and exploring top to bottom on my main, I don't really want to explore on this new character... Is there a certain route to take on a new character to get leveled and fight just the main bosses? Need some tips as exploration has always been incorporated into my Elden runs...
Thank you 🤟🏼

2023.03.20 23:09 KwikMafs Experienced Civ VI player, just finished my first game of Stellaris...

...and got married, had a child, bought a house, and retired. But seriously, I thought Civ games took a while, but my first game of Stellaris took maybe 36 hours of constant play (spread out over 4 days, and after playing half a game initially to learn the ropes). I ended up winning with a score of about 130k to 2nd place's 120k while winning a 1v8 war at the end.
I had a few questions though:
  1. How does automation of sectors work? I tried turning it on and putting monthly EC and minerals into the shared stockpile, but it seems like the shared stockpile just never decreased and the "automated" sectors never built anything, so I had to micromanage all my planets/habitats/ring worlds myself. Relatedly, should I just be dumping all my minerals into the sector stockpile? As far as I can tell, minerals aren't useful to actually have lying around.
  2. From what little I've read on this sub, "Auto-Best" ships are actually pretty bad. Should I be making my own designs? And is there a mod or something that makes Auto-Best actually be Auto-Best?
  3. Also from what I've read here, it seems that I should be specializing my planets instead of trying to make a bunch of general ones. Should I also do the same with ecumenopolises (like have 5, each one dedicated to a different type of ecumenopolis district)?
  4. Are there megastructures I should be prioritizing? Obviously the mega shipyard seems good if I want a big navy, and the Dyson sphere and matter decompressor seem good, but I can't tell if ring worlds and orbital rings are worth the huge time and influence investment (habitats seem good tho).
    1. The quantum catapult seems pretty bad but in my game there was Ultima Vigilis which was completely inaccessible from the galaxy so I just yeeted 300k of my navy and 3 science and construction ships at it and enough actually landed in the system that I could kill the enemies, survey and outpost it, and blow up the AI world and get the relic that allows you to build 2 of each speciality megastructure. Is the quantum catapult the only way to get to Ultima Vigilis?
    2. Also I used the catapult to shotgun half my navy at an empire that declared a war on me and take them over super quickly which was fun. Is that the intended use??
Overall, really enjoyed my first game. I was Commonwealth of Man since "big navy shoot enemy" seemed like a fairly straightforward strategy to me, but I'll try some others as well as maybe up the difficulty a bit.

Beyond the fog Hall of Champions 2023-3-20

Welcome to the Hall of Champions

Brave Tarnished... Thy strength befits a crown.
Spoken echoes of Queen Marika linger here. Shall I share them with you?
In Marika's own words. My Lord, and thy warriors. I divest each of thee of thy grace. With thine eyes dimmed, ye will be driven from the Lands Between. Ye will wage war in a land afar, where ye will live, and die.
Then, after thy death, I will give back what I once claimed. Return to the Lands Between, wage war, and brandish the Elden Ring.
Grow strong in the face of death. Warriors of my lord. Lord Godfrey.
Greetings, traveler from beyond the fog. Welcome to our hall of Champions, here we gather to celebrate all of those who lay down the golden sign to aid those in need, to those we've a toast to make.
To your valour, my sword, and our victory together. Long may the Sun shine!!
Someone once said, -we are amidst strange beings, in a strange land. The flow of time itself is convoluted; with heroes centuries old phasing in and out.
The very fabric wavers, and relations shift and obscure. There's no telling how much longer your world and mine will remain in contact.
But, use this and lay your golden summon sign down, to summon one another as spirits, cross the gaps between the worlds, and engage in jolly co-operation!

2023.03.20 22:57 Astice_Pensante Let Me Solo Her plays modded Elden Ring run where every enemy is Malenia (03/20/2023)

Let Me Solo Her has become Let Me Solo Them in a quite frankly terrifying challenge run of Elden Ring.
The streamer became legendary in the game's community for assisting players struggling with its most difficult optional boss: Malenia.

2023.03.20 22:55 JustTheCrust RL1/WL+0 recommendations

Would your weapon recommendations change if it is a WL+0 run vs a WL+25 run?
What weapons did you use/recommend for WL+0?

I did check the mega thread but most comments did not include WL+0.

Developed by Paradox Tectonic - the studio headed by Rod Humble, former Sims boss and CEO of Second Life studio Linden Labs - Life by You's marketing immediately slings shade in the direction of The Sims 4, describing the title as a game that'll let players "create humans and live out their lives without loading screens".
While the fundamentals - from house building to character creation - all seem very Sims-like, Paradox is trumpeting an "open game world where everything is customisable", alongside "real language conversation" and the ability for players to directly control their digital humans if they'd prefer something more hands-on than the default third-person view.
