2023.03.29 03:16 Ok_Dragonfruit9420 (PA) wife refuses 50/50 custody of 3 kids
Long story short, I am the breadwinner and my wife is stay at home, with 3 kids all under 4 (youngest 6 months). I make very good money and have provided my family with what they need. I have been a part of their lives everyday, cooking, changing, baths, all the basics. My wife wants a divorce because in her mind I haven’t done enough in the past to help her (eg I didn’t help her enough with baths or kids). I work 15 hours a day and I did take a step back to allow her to run the household, as that is what we agreed on.
Of course I know I could have done more to help, but I think that is true for all relationships, and I even said I see how this could have affected you, and I will do better. Three kids is rough, but in now way shape or form was I not a loving and caring father and part of their everyday lives. Kids are very well off and there isn’t a want we can’t get them.
I know for a fact her mom is in her head and pushing this along to leave, saying she will help her and you don’t need him. I know this because she paid for and went to the lawyer consultation with her. She is a narcissist and wants me gone so she can move in since she hates her husband. Validated this as she has 2 sons that won’t speak to her because of her ways. My wife has essentially chosen her family over ours.
We went to counseling a total of 4 times before she threw in the towel, and states their is no reconciliation at all. I am fighting to keep family alive, and to at least exhaust all options before we walk away. I think that is reasonable enough given three small kids, and we can then walk away knowing we tried. I have let people walk all over me my entire life, and have lost my sense of self worth.
We are still living under same roof and sleeping in same bed, as I won’t leave the marital home. I have offered to nest and split time with kids to give her space, but she says she will not sleep somewhere where her kids aren’t. I told her she better get comfortable with that because if you want a divorce, that is inevitable….
That brought up the custody conversation, where she is not coming outright and stating what she wants, but says we will let lawyers hash it out. She left her legal paperwork on the kitchen table and she wants me only to have every other weekend with kids. It is absolutely insane of her to think of me with such disgust to take the father of her children out of the picture to the full extent of the law.
I just want 50/50 of the kids. I work from home so no problem. I don’t want this divorce, but I can’t stop it and she is a good mom and I believe what is best for the kids is equal parenting in their lives.
I wouldn’t put it past them to try and paint a picture of me being the worst father in the world. My question is, I live in Pennsylvania (Montgomery county). What are my chances of 50/50. I am willing to go bankrupt to fight for that. I won’t agree to anything less. Just because I didn’t do as much as the stay at home mom did when I was working, shouldn’t mean that I am unfit or unable to care for them in the future.
I am terrified so would love some insight to what I may expect.

2023.03.29 03:14 ryhoyarbie A Nightmare on Elm Street/Freddy's House
I always wondered why they never demolished that house that Freddy, and then Nancy, and then Jesse lived in since various people were killed in it.
Seems easier just to flatten it and build a new home in its place or leave the land there and plant some flowers and let Mother Nature take over since we see in the 4th film that the house is boarded up and abandoned with an aging for sale sign.
Wonder what the neighbors thought.

2023.03.29 03:13 RamblingMuse Advice for my dad on a truck
I'm trying to help my 77 year old dad buy a used truck, but we're running into some roadblocks. He lives in a rural area in Iowa, outside of town on about 15 miles of county gravel road. About 3 times a month, he has to go up to the state VA that is about 2 hours away (paved hwy) for various health check-ups. His needs are: 4WD, crew cab, small/medium size truck for easy access, automatic, V6, PW, PL and reliable. He would like leather seats because he takes his German Shorthair dog on trips, but he can go with cloth if needed. Personally, I would like it to also have back-up camera/navigation and lane departure for obvious safety reasons.
I've been trying to talk him into something a little newer, within the last 3 years, to get those newer safety features and maybe even have some warranty left. But, the biggest obstacle is he can be very cheap, so it's hard to find something that he's willing to pay. He doesn't want his payments over $500/month. He does have a 2013 Buick Enclave (2WD) with a little over 98,000 miles on it that he could possibly trade or sale, but I'm not sure he'd do that because it was the last car he and my mom bought before she passed away. I also believe he could put around $2000-$3000 down on something. He's been looking at the Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado but he's not found anything in his price range. Is there maybe something different that would fit his needs and still be in line with his price?

You’ve stumbled across this page for a reason.
It’s not because you’ve heard of this crazy new business model called ‘SMMA’ and it’s not because you’re struggling to sign your first client.
It’s because you’re exasperated. You’re frustrated. And you know you can do better.
You’re stuck in a pair of “golden handcuffs”: running a mildly-successful agency but beholden to your clients, your staff, and your phone.
You’ve broken the one inviolable rule of running an agency and not kept a full pipeline.
You know that you can reach the upper echelon of agency owners making six-and-seven figures, whilst working less than six-and-seven hours a week.
You just don’t know how…
My name’s Iman Gadzhi and since 2017, I’ve run IAG Media. In this time, I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, enjoyed six-figure months and made my clients millions.
I’ve also lost multiple clients in a row, been over-worked and chained to the agency that I started to give me freedom.
All the while, I’ve refined, tweaked and optimized my agency whilst also creating GrowYourAgency.com – the world’s largest education company for agency owners.
But in early 2020, I realised there was a problem. For every beginner agency owner desperate to sign their first client, there were three experienced agency owners desperate for guidance, systems and processes, and a solution to their broken agency model.
It’s why I created Copy Paste Agency…
…not so I can show you how to sign a client or perform basic outreach.
So you could take, copy and paste the exact methods I use in my own agency into your agency.
Copy Paste Agency students learn:
How I continue to run a multiple-six-figure agency from home with a skeleton staff and minimal expenses.
How to command higher retainers… and retain those clients for longer.
How to automate, delegate, and optimize every area of your agency from lead generation and sales to service delivery and client communication.
Plus get access to the latest tools and software used by my own agency, IAG Media such as reporting templates.

2023.03.29 03:09 Frosty-Pop3721 If I signed my title to a Car Dealership after agreeing on a trade value, are they legally bound to that value? They did not fill out the dealer info before backing out.
LOUISIANA
I went to a car dealership today, chose a car, and had them appraise my potential trade-in. The salesman came back with a sheet showing the breakdown of the price of the new vehicle, my trade value, taxes, and fees. My trade allowance was $45,000, about $15,000 more than I expected. He assured me that I would be owed a little under $12,000, and I confirmed that amount multiple times because I couldn't believe such a high appraisal. After he reassured me, I agreed to the prices, and they had me sign the title to my trade. I did not sign any other contracts.
The salesman disappeared for a while and returned to tell me he thought he had heard the sales manager say 45, rather than 25. I argued that we had already agreed on the prices and that I had already signed the title. He countered with the fact that they hadn't filled out their portion of the title yet, so I technically "didn't sign the title TO anybody." I went to the sales manager directly, and although he seemed nervous, he walked me through it like a child and gave me nearly the same exact words as the salesman. I went home with my signed title and the sheet that outlined the values showing that I would have been owed just short of $12,000.
There were 4-6 other employees around, along with the managers that the salesman spoke to, and my wife, they were all aware of the mistake, but also aware that I "made sure" before making an agreement.
Who's in the right here? Am I entitled to make that deal at the agreed-upon trade value of $45,000? Or did they slip through on technicality for not filling out their end of the title?

2023.03.29 03:02 StepwiseUndrape574 Surge In Carjackings Has A Chicago Politician Calling For A Grand Theft Auto Game Ban
Violence is on the rise in Chicago, and lawmakers are looking for ways to drive those numbers back down. One stat that has drawn attention in recent weeks is the city's number of carjackings. According to Chicago police, carjacking surged by 134 percent for 2020, bringing the total to 1,415. Rep. Marcus Evans Jr. (D), whose district covers Chicago's South Side, wants a sales ban to minors on violent video games like Grand Theft Auto. Evans is proposing an amendment to an existing 2012 law that prevents the sale of violent video games to minors. Illinois House Bill 3531 (HB3531) has been updated to add the following language:
Modifies the definition of "violent video game" to mean a video game that allows a user or player to control a character within the video game that is encouraged to perpetuate human-on-human violence in which the player kills or otherwise causes serious physical or psychological harm to another human or an animal...
Modifies the definition of "serious physical harm" to include psychological harm and child abuse, sexual abuse, animal abuse, domestic violence, violence against women, or motor vehicle theft with a driver or passenger present inside the vehicle when the theft begins.
The above-bolded text is pertinent to Grand Theft Auto, a widely popular game franchise that allows you to perform carjackings (among other violent and heinous acts). However, what's interesting is that games like Grand Theft Auto and its ilk have been around for decades; this is nothing new. A game like Grand Theft Auto alone couldn't possibly be responsible for the rise in the city's carjackings. Still, lawmakers and city officials are seemingly trying to tie the young ages of some of the carjacking suspects with the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic means that many children are at home, spending more time playing video games.
grand theft auto carjacking The youngest [recent] carjacking suspect was just 12 years old, and a 14-year-old was arrested in January for "taking part in multiple carjackings," according to Fox News.
"I feel like this game has become a huge issue in this spectrum," said Walker in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. "When you compare the two, you see harsh similarities as it relates to these carjackings."
As a counterpoint to the rumblings in Chicago, a decade-long study concluded that this is no credible link between kids playing violent video games and, in-turn exhibiting violent behavior.

2023.03.29 03:02 Existing-Magazine-92 Law Enforcement Career Change advice?
Hello everyone,
I am currently a Local LEO with 5 years of experience on patrol in a smaller, suburban police department. Not much opportunities for investigations or “detective” style work which I want to do eventually. I have not completed my bachelors degree yet, it is in progress. Also, I am a military veteran.
I am looking into an opportunity to work full time at a county drug task force as an investigatoagent. The only issue is that it pays $65,000 per year and my current job is $90,000. It wouldn’t put a huge strain on our family financially, but we’d have to cut back some.
I’m unsure if I should make the move or if it’d be worth it if down the road if I’d like to work state or federal as a special agent and to get some investigation experience.
Some perks of the job would be normal hours, 8-4 M-F weekends and holidays off. Also a take home car, newer Ford Explorer. My current job is 12 hour shifts rotating days and nights/weekends. Please let me know what your thoughts are!

2023.03.29 02:41 sudoku1984 Full-time stationary through grad school?
Hey. Could anyone point me in the direction of where to do research?
I start grad school in the fall, 7-8 years, then plan to move. I want to live alone with my cats. I found land for 40k. It has a well, septic, electric and can get broadband. I thought about putting down a trailer, but average sale price right now for a single wide mobile home in that area is about 50k, so that's a waste of money. My thought is if I buy an RV, at least I have something when I'm done.
I'm the kind of person sometimes takes a 1-week road trip and sleeps in my car to save money. I love doing that, so I think I will enjoy having the RV when I'm done.
I'm worried about climate control for my cats, especially if I'm away for 8-12 hours for classes/whatever. Average low in winter is 21F. Average high in summer is 82F. Is that doable?
How much work is this going to be? I'm pretty handy and have fixed appliances and done minor plumbing work when needed.
Any thoughts about electric/wateseptic hookups? Especially hooking up to a septic tank?
There's an RV place going out of business not far from here and I'm hoping I can find something I can afford. Any thoughts on all this? Thanks for your help.

2023.03.29 02:39 Consistent-Jury9849 I did it
I got the job. The one where the Ops manager chuckled through the phone call when he scheduled my first interview.
Ops manager told me he didn’t take me seriously until he met me in person. After that, he immediately called my (now)boss and told him he had to meet me. Two days later, I drove two hours away to meet regional sales and ops managers and interview with them. Two weeks later, they sent me an offer. I literally snatched the job out of the hands of a previous employee that everyone knew and loved.
I am, once again, the first an only woman to work at this branch.
Yesterday was my first day and I crushed it! Every single person I met was so cool and so supportive. Today I drove my first ever work truck home.
6 years ago I was waiting tables with no degree. Today I have an amazing new career with a great company, great pay, and great benefits. I clawed my way up. I made it. I feel like such a bad bitch right now.
Thank you for your support during this process and thank you for reading my story

2023.03.29 02:32 ArgonTheEvil [USA-OH] [H] Entry level Gaming Desktop PC i5 and GTX 1060 3GB, Custom PS5 Controller [W] Local Cash / PayPal
https://imgur.com/a/xDvrTkJ CPU-Z validation Local Zip: 43616 Desktop - $200 local / ? shipped Custom PS5 Controller - $100 local / $110 shipped Couple items to share today. First off is my old gaming desktop from 2017. I intended to use this as my home server / game server hosting machine, but I decided to get something more CPU heavy and thus have no need of this anymore.
The PC is an HP Omen 870-224 that has been slightly upgraded from its stock build.
Full specs are as follows: i5 7400, GTX 1060 3GB HP OEM card (uses a flower style cooler), HP OEM motherboard based on H170 chipset, 16GB (2x8) 2400mhz RAM, 250GB SSD+1TB HDD, and 500w 80+ bronze PSU. CPUZ Validation lists an extra 1TB SSD that is NOT included with this sale.
Price is $200 local but willing to ship, and would have to get an estimate on shipping. As a result I’m going to prioritize a local sale (Zip code: 43616) on this item.
The PS5 controller is an Aim Controller I had custom designed and built last year around this time. I honestly thought I’d be playing Apex Legends more, and it was something of an impulse purchase. Used it for less than 10 hours total and charged it maybe 3 times in the past year. The spider paddles are also fully programmable.

2023.03.29 02:31 AdventurousUnion1 AITA for suggesting it’s time to start acting like an adult towards my girlfriend?
Me (19) and my girlfriend (18 almost 19) live about 45 minutes away from each other, and live in totally different areas. She lives in a county area and I live in the city, and it’s only connected by a big expressway.
My girlfriend has expressed multiple times that she’s uncomfortable driving on the expressway and wants me to drive out there to get her. It takes about a quarter of my gas and we see each other a fair bit, so it gets expensive. I’ve done it for a while, and I decided one day to tell her that she needs to learn how to drive on the expressway to make it fair for the both of us, I’ve offered to teach her and recommended her places to take proper lessons but she’s refused. I’ve been polite every time I’ve asked her to try and she refuses unless her mother is with her. She’s been very attached to her mother, and expects her mother to do everything for her, like driving her places, filing her taxes, signing her up for doctors appointments, and so on.
Recently I brought everything up to her and suggested that it’s time to start acting like a grownup and doing things to prepare for adulthood. I told her that she can’t live home and rely on her mother forever, and that even though it’s tough, I’d be willing to support her and teach her everything she needs to know.
She snapped back at me saying that everything I said was extremely rude, and that she’ll do everything when she feels like it. AITA?

2023.03.29 02:29 thelizziepants Divorced over 1 year. Ex’s family and friends keep reaching out to me. Ex is struggling.
Short version: ex-husband and I split at his request 4 years ago. He started going through a mid-life crisis. We were together for nearly 20 years and have 2 kids.
He has struggled with some mental health issues. In the entire time we were together he had been very reluctant about fully disclosing how bad his issues really were out of fear around how it would impact finishing his education and his career. He goes into manic phases of being a complete workaholic and then crashing into a crippling depression where he could barely care for himself. He would bounce between states of extreme paranoia and extreme social anxiety. He would be fearful of crowds and places being attacked. We weren’t allowed to go to any of his graduations because he was convinced someone was going to “get him”. We couldn’t leave the county for our honeymoon because we would be kidnapped. We couldn’t have a wedding on the beach because we would be held for ransom. He would only bury himself if activities where he could hide from people. For years I was enabling this cycle by filling in the gaps of where he needed and constantly covering our finances and home life. I didn’t realize the extent of how extreme some of the things were until we started living apart.
Our divorce was rough. He drug it out for over 3 years and even then was reluctant to settle it. We have known each other since we were kids and it’s like I am this weird security blanket for him. It is clear he isn’t as happy as he wanted people to think with his attempt to “reinvent” himself.
We limit communication to items around the kids. I do not interact with his family or friends but am not closed to the idea. It just seems to stir up a very sticky situation with him. In a way I am scared for him to see how happy I am now that he is gone. A lot of things that stresses me out were manufactured scenarios by some of his health issues.
Recently I have been contacted about him from his friend. It was clear he is struggling and it is now apparent to other people. Doesn’t sound different than past situations he would get himself into but seems to be the first time they are experiencing signs of this spiraling.
Every time I see him he is depressed, disheveled, and generally stressed out. His girlfriend seems scared and worried for him. I feel bad but this is not my concern. His friend seems to think I need to intervene.
He initiated the breakup. He found his “better” relationship with his girlfriend. She is a nurse and better equipped than I am to deal with whatever is going on. My feeling is that he walked out on our marriage and I don’t have an obligation to support him like I did in the past.
Part of me is nervous though that this could be signs of something serious like him potentially harming himself and I will feel guilty if he does something bad.
He doesn’t live alone - his girlfriend is there full time. My kids are with them 50/50.
I feel like I made so much progress in putting myself first and I don’t want to undo any of that. My kids are so much happier. My life is more peaceful. I am seeing a lot of successes where I need them for me and my kids by not being caught up in the never ending cycle of him needing everyone’s help.
Am I wrong to not do anything to intervene? How much is really “required” of me?

2023.03.29 02:29 SolidPomegranate877 Low Real Estate Offer? Is this a bad offer? What would you do?
Were selling our house and just received an offer that is essentially ten grand under our asking price. Were in WV and were asking 159,000 for our beautiful 3 bed, 2 bath ranch style home in the country. We received an offer for 157,000 asking us to pay $6500 of the buyer's closing costs, buy them a warranty for $620, agree to cover the cost of extermination if termites are found (another $620), plus it's contingent on them selling their house. Furthermore, they didn't offer to put any earnest money deposit down. The buyers are selling their current house in Oregon. I looked up their address on Zillow and found out that they stand to make more or less $100,000 off the sale of their current home. I see in public records that they bought it in 2018 for $125,000 and now have it listed at $230,000! They stand to make close to one hundred thousand dollars from selling their home, but they made us a lowball offer with a bunch of contingencies attached to it. Once you add up the cost of all those concessions, their offer is essentially $149,000, a full ten grand under our asking price! Am I crazy to be offended by this offer? Would you consider this a bad offer? Would you consider this a fair offer? The buyers seem to be in a much better financial situation than us just based on how much money they're making from the sale of their current house. I'm definitely not going to accept this offer as is, but I'm considering making a counteroffer. If you were me, what kind of counteroffer would you make? Or would you just decline this offer and wait for the next one? Our house has been on the market for 5 months now, but we're not in a hurry to move. As long as we move by this summer, we will be satisfied. I feel like if we accept this offer, we may be missing out on a better offer that could come along. Let me know what you think I'm in desperate need of advice. My realtor says it's a fair offer, but after learning more about the buyer's situation, I feel it's less than fair.

2023.03.29 02:28 lookfatbutdontfeelit I look fat but I don’t feel fat
New to FIRE and recently got Chubby/Fat. Been lurking here for a year or so. 49(m) and married. Semi-RE. Married with 3 kids(18,14,7) College next year for the 18 yo. Nothing fancy, instate tuition $25k/year.
- $3.8mm liquid-combination of 401k and equities-Bulk of it in Equities due to the sale of one of my businesses.
- 3 personal/vacation residences-2 are newly built vacation homes that were recently finished/acquired and we just started to STR-Total equity-$2.5mm no debt. Hoping to generate $40k-$50k per year starting in 2024. Currently they are covering their monthly expenses with the STR booked already. I have long term sale plans (5-6 years) for my main residence and retiring to the two vacation homes-both in VLCOL areas.
- 2 SFH LTR $250k equity- no debt. Generating $18k/year cash flow
- Commercial real estate-$2.2mm in equity but very little cash flow Not worth counting. There is debt here but the tenants(my former businesses) are covering the payments and building small amounts of cash and equity at a good pace. Not sure when I will sell these though as there are other partners involved.
- Land valued at $1.8mm (no debt) that I plan to sell in the next 3-5 years and will likely continue to increase in value. $15k/year in taxes though.
- Income from one business of roughly $100k after taxes. I am unsure as to how long this will last. Could be 1 year or it could be 10yrs. Partners can be complicated.
- Currently pulling $50k/year from my liquid investments to cover shortfall in income.
Our annual spend has been closer to $200k in 2022 but it’s been very cloudy due to building and furnishing vacation houses, some travel to the houses, and all the noise from selling my business and adjusting to a different lifestyle. I think I’d like it to stick at $200k and I’d be very comfortable with that number.
So, I have a shitload of assets that don’t generate a ton of income, a good chunk of cash but I still feel like I am living paycheck to paycheck to cover my annual spend. I would like to pull more out of my equities to make things just a more comfortable but I am having withdrawal anxiety because I’ve never not had a paycheck before. I’ve traditionally been a saver and not a spender. It feels like I still don’t have enough. I’ve always been comfortable but not wealthy until recently. How does one calculate a SWR when there are so many different factors? Additionally I officially retired from my day to day Jan 1, 2022-pretty bad time to retire due to sequence of return on my equities. I factor a SWR at 3% at $125k but it doesn’t feel right pulling that out yet for some reason. My wife keeps telling me not to freak out and that we will be just fine, but having so much tied up in real estate with so little cash flow seems scary to me. Not sure what exactly I am looking for in this post, maybe it's just validation that it's alright to pull more out of the market and just rely upon the sale of future real estate to fund the remaining time of my retirement. Any guidance or comments would be welcome.

2023.03.29 02:18 RaidCan My Flight Simulator Journey - A Tribute
Recently I've been thinking of what I consider meaningful - the people and places and things that have had a significant effect on me. And without a doubt, Flight Simulator lives high on that list. I've been thinking of what makes it so impactful and how my experience has changed over the years, and I wanted to share my journey with you all in the hopes that it sparks the same introspection and fond memories for you as it does for me.
It starts for me in the mid 90s. My parents are engineers and I'm six or seven years old in California and love airplanes. Much of my extended family is in South Asia and my uncle there is an engineer for an airline. On family vacations I get to experience the magic of going to work with my uncle for one or two days. I get to admire DC10s undergoing maintenance in the hangar, sit in the engine, walk on the wing, pretend to be captain in the flight deck. It's magnificent.
At some point in the late 90s I'm walking through a store with my mom or dad. I think it was a Staples. I see a computer game called "Big Jets." It looks absolutely awesome - there's a 747 Jumbo Jet on the cover. I beg for it, my parent acquiesces, and I bring it home. Incredibly exciting! We get home and put the CD in the family computer - one of those beige boxes with a CRT display. I can't remember exactly what popped up on the screen, but I can still vividly feel the disappointment: Big Jets wasn't a game, at least not on its own. It was a payware add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. It wouldn't run. To this day, I think about this and laugh about the fact that my first Flight Simulator purchase was payware. But I wasn't laughing then - I was pretty sad. We put the CD back in the box and put it in a closet. I eventually stopped thinking about it.
Some months later we're at another store and I see Flight Simulator 98 for sale. I manage to convince my parents to get it. I want to clarify that I didn't get many presents growing up - mainly on a birthday and maybe a major religious holiday, but they agreed and I brought it home ecstatic. My parents also liked to ration gifts, meaning I could install Flight Simulator 98 today but would have to wait some undisclosed period of time before getting to install Big Jets. Okay, that's fine. I get to play Microsoft Flight Simulator!
So began my journey with Flight Simulator. I was only seven or eight years old so I certainly wasn't very good at it. I didn't know what I was doing at all. My parents still joke today about how whenever I would play they'd come in a few minutes later and see the cracked windshield graphic on the screen, because naturally I had crashed. That's all I really did - take off, fly around for a bit, and eventually crash because I had no idea how to land. I didn't even know how to find other airports after taking off. But it was so fun. I remember discovering that you could open a second view on the screen (like Picture in Picture), and if you set it to the map mode, and zoomed out all the way, it would show the globe. So it was essentially like being on a transcontinental flight and seeing your position on the little inflight display. Useless for my aimless flying - but so cool! FS98 also came with a booklet of airport charts - I didn't know what to do with that but I would keep it open on my desk because it made me feel more like a pilot. Eventually I do install Big Jets. There's a 747 in Ansett Australia livery - that one was my favorite.
A few years go by. We move. We eventually get a DSL internet connection and I'm around 13 years old, actively browsing the early 2000s web while chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger. I don't play Flight Simulator as often but with this new access to internet search engines - I wonder - was there ever a new Flight Simulator?
I want to pause here. This might seem ludicrous. How do you not know what games are coming out? But I think it's important to recognize that I was a 10-something year old who had just recently gotten internet access, spent most of his time outdoors, and didn't go to any stores unless I was already with my parents - and they sure didn't go to gaming store. So it was pretty easy to be in the dark about this stuff.
Imagine my complete jaw dropping surprise when I see images of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 on the internet. The airplane models! The scenery!! Holy shit it is the most realistic thing I have seen in my life! How did I not know about this? Wait...there was a Flight Simulator 2000 and 2002 this whole time too? While I've been using 98? Quite the mix of emotions.
In any case, some time goes by and I get FS2004 for my birthday. I install it. It runs like absolute shit on my Dell computer with integrated graphics. But I make do. This is also around the time that I discover the world of freeware addons (Avsim) - and eventually - Project Open Sky (Posky), a developer forum I join and become an active member of for several years. Unlike a lot of the members, I still don't have a dedicated graphics card. I do, however, have Photoshop and a burgeoning interest in Graphic Design, so I take screenshots of my FS2004 flights and then photoshop the jagged edges with the blur and smooth tools to make them look better. It must have worked, because I eventually start running a screenshot competition on the forum.
Between 13 and 18 years old I really enjoy FS2004, and eventually FSX (this time, I knew it was coming, because of the internet and developers/forums like Posky). I also make a lot of friends. Back in the day they would say to be wary of people you met on the internet, but Posky feels like a tight group of people. The developers themselves are friendly, the community is fun. Eventually I dabble in making my own repaints (a Korean Air 747SP comes to mind), and support fellow simmers in their endeavors to build aircraft, airports, liveries, and so on. We on Skype about flight sim and life. And then I go off to college and my time for Flight Simulator all but disappears as I get busy with schoolwork and college life.
Unsurprisingly, I study engineering in college and graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While in school, I'm blessed to earn an internship with Boeing in Seattle, and upon graduating, I join the company full time. Over the next five years I have various opportunities at Boeing across engineering, manufacturing, and customer support - which was ultimately my favorite, as I serve as the point contact at Boeing for two leading airlines - one in Europe, and later one in Asia. During my travels to Asia, I eventually reach out to one of my old flight sim buddies from Posky who lives there and we hang out during my off hours. I can truly say Flight Simulator has made me friends around the world. I stay in touch with some of the others - one now works at Southwest, another moved on from Posky to QualityWings, another is a famous flight sim streamer.
I've since left Boeing and now work at a smaller company in the industry, and I've just recently gotten back into Flight Simulator with Microsoft's latest installment. I know this sub is no stranger to singing the software's graphical praises - but I'll say it over and over: the latest Microsoft Flight Simulator is the most visually stunning piece of software I have ever experienced. It's more than that though. It brings me back to being eight years old and flying aimlessly for hours because I don't know how to land. It reminds me of when I discovered the world of freeware add-ons and subsequently spent hours creating my own repaints (but getting others to take screenshots for Avsim because I didn't have a dedicated GPU). It reminds me of laughing with fellow flight sim teens on completely unrelated Skype calls.
Luckily I'm at a place now where I can afford to have dedicated graphics cards, and I don't have to wait months between getting a game and getting a payware add-on, and I know how to navigate to and do an instrument landing at the airport of my choice. And that certainly enhances the experience. But Flight Simulator has always been more than just a flight simulator for me. It's been the source of fun and joy and friendship, a career guidance counselor, an anxiety soother, and so many other things that have deeply enhanced my life.
Thanks for taking the time to read - I really appreciate it.

2023.03.29 02:15 Existing-Magazine-92 Need Opinion on Career Move.
Hello everyone,
I am currently a Local LEO with 5 years of experience on patrol in a smaller, suburban police department. Not much opportunities for investigations or “detective” style work which I want to do eventually. I have not completed my bachelors degree yet, In progress. Also, I am a military veteran
I am looking into an opportunity to work full time at a county drug task force as an investigator.
