Is the democratic party corrupt? Sure. Should you participate in the democratic party? Why not?
2023.04.01 21:26 subheight640 Is the democratic party corrupt? Sure. Should you participate in the democratic party? Why not?
What does it mean to be a "Democrat" in the United States? The only criteria to become a Democrat is to merely vote in a Democratic primary or caucus. That's it. There's nothing about adhering to some party line.
The Democratic Party, and the Republican Party, care about three things:
- How much money you have to spend.
- How many voters you can get to vote for you in the primary & general elections
- How much volunteer labor you can muster.
The Democratic Party, and essentially all parties and organizations, will be biased against the interests of the working class because the working class is the least able to volunteer and expend money on political campaigns. Volunteers will tend to be people who:
- Have their fundamental needs already fulfilled and are looking for some higher calling. This includes retirees and well paid professionals and the exceptionally ambitious (and if I'll be honest, people like me).
- People who participate in the political industry and have a professional interest in volunteering (oxymoron I suppose, but for example an engineer might also volunteer in an engineering society, which builds professional credibility to feed him more work). These are fundraisers, lawyers, lobbyists, door-knockers, campaign staff, etc.
Insofar as the Democratic Party has a bias against the working class, it just so happens that the working class is terrible at fundraising and rallying votes.
Moreover to come to the obvious reason why organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America are biased in favor of middle-class / professional-class values, well, the DSA is a volunteer organization, and volunteers usually skew against the working class.
In other words we have a correlation / causation confusion. The platform of the Democrats is a mere expression of power. The Party does not empower you. Instead, you need to bring your power to the Democratic Party if you want to influence it. The Democratic Party is merely a platform for elite competition of the powerful.
Typical criticisms in this sub against the Democratic Party are an admission of your own powerlessness, your inability to organize the masses to compete against the elite and the wealthy.
So should you vote for a Democrat, or a Republican? It depends. In the ideal, organizations - whether it be the DSA or labor unions, or SOMETHING needs to do the actual organization and power concentration. At a sufficient level of power they can then field a candidate for either the Democratic or Republican Party. And that's how US politics works. If you already have organized collective power, voting in a Democratic Primary is a merely an expression of power you already have. If you don't have collective organized power, voting in the Democratic Primary is virtue signalling (Yet is this virtue signalling bad? Virtue signalling is a way to demonstrate a behavior you'd like other people follow. To build collective power you'll probably have to start virtue signalling). The crux of the issue then isn't that the "Democrats are corrupt" (of course they are, as are most organizations). The crux of the issue is, "How the hell can we create working class power?" My only suggestion here is to stop doing the same damn thing over and over again and try something new, which is why I'm a big fan of sortition. Again and again, formerly working class organizations tend to get corrupted - power becomes concentrated into individuals as a vehicle for themselves rather than a vehicle for the working class.
Instead of voting, some people are waiting for I suppose an armed revolution. Well, if you can't even collectively organize to vote, you assuredly won't be able to organize to fight. Voting and fighting come hand-in-hand. It is not eitheor.
Instead of all this crap, I suppose you can also do nothing, which honestly isn't that bad of a thing either. There's no guarantee that working class organization will ever work out. I don't see a historical inevitability here. Alternatively if you do want to participate, in my opinion the goal is to organize to a sufficient level that you can meaningfully participation in elections.

READ BEFORE POSTING
If you are having any issues, including but not limited to; games or programs crashing, blue screens of death (BSoD), system freezes, data corruption, system shutting down randomly, lower than expected performance or any other issue, please try the following before making a post, the overwhelming majority of problems can be resolved by trying these next steps
- Make sure you are running the latest updates for your operating system, games and applications
- Scan your PC for any Viruses or Malware using Windows Defender or another reputable Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware solution
- Make sure you are running the latest AMD drivers and reinstall them if needed. To reinstall GPU drivers and software, we recommend using the AMD Cleanup Utility — If the AMD Cleanup Utility doesn't work, you can also use Display Driver Uninstaller to perform a clean installation of the drivers, a guide on using DDU can be found here
- If Windows Update is overwriting or replacing your GPU drivers, please try the following guide to prevent Windows Update from overwriting or replacing installed drivers, then try reinstalling the latest drivers again
- If you are on Windows 10/11 and experience flickering or stuttering, try disabling Multiplane Overlay (MPO), some users report that this resolves their issues — more information in this thread
- If a game is crashing, verify game files/repair the game through Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, EA App (formerly Origin), Battle.net or whichever game client you are using
- If a program is crashing, reinstall the program or attempt to repair the installation using the program's installeuninstaller
- Make sure you are running the latest BIOS, Firmware and Drivers for your motherboard, laptop or desktop
- If you have any overclocks, underclocks, undervolts, custom power curves or similar: revert everything to stock clocks and voltages, this includes disabling XMP/EXPO — just because your system turns on, doesn't make it stable. Many will have unstable systems but not realise it until specific conditions are met, e.g. high temperatures under a certain load or a specific game/application that stresses the system harder etc...
- If you are asking about safe temperatures or if your temperatures for your CPU/GPU are OK, please see the Wiki — Most AMD Ryzen CPUs are specified up-to 95c and most AMD Radeon GPUs have junction temperatures specified up-to 110c
- Stability test your system with the utilities linked below if you experience crashes, freezes, system shut-down or just want to check
OCCT — Good all-round stress testing utility
Prime95 — Good for testing CPU stability
AIDA64 — Good for testing CPU and RAM stability
Furmark — Good for testing GPU stability
MSI Kombustor — Good for testing GPU Memory (VRAM) stability if you enable the 'Artifact Scanner'
MemTest86 and/or MemTest86+ — Good for testing RAM (memory) stability
SeaTools — Good for testing SSDs and HDDs for faulty NAND or bad sectors
Running these utilities can help you narrow down which component(s) in your system are faulty or have unstable overclocks. If you require help using any of these utilities, please use Google and YouTube, as there are a plethora of guides available and these utilities get updated periodically
- If you have a custom built PC, recently upgraded or started overclocking, use a PSU calculator and make sure the PSU you have can output enough power when your system is under load — OuterVision, Cooler Master, Seasonic, FSP, Newegg, be quiet!
- If you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11, use the built-in SFC and DISM commands to check for corrupt operating system files and attempt to repair them, a guide is available here
- Try and apply common sense to an issue, for example if you have flickering on your TV/Monitor, try simple things like changing the cable and port you are using. If you've recently installed a mod and now that game crashes, uninstall that mod. If one of your memory modules is no longer being detected, is there any physical damage to the module itself, the DIMM slot on the motherboard or pins, have you tried reinserting it etc
- If you've tried all of the above and are still facing the same issue, please backup any important data and completely reinstall your operating system — we recommend using the latest official ISO image available. The use of 3rd party, custom or 'slimmed' versions of Windows can cause stability and compatibility issues. We also recommend performing a clean reinstall with a USB. Windows 10 and Windows 11 ISO images can be downloaded from the Microsoft's website
If you have done all the above steps and are still facing an issue, please follow the below template for submitting a request, the more detail you can include the better. If you post something like 'cod crashes' or you don't list your PC specifications or what you've tried; don't expect a response, as there's not enough information to go on.
Below is an example template you could use
Summary of issue: Freesync doesn't work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II with Radeon Software Version 23.3.2, however rolling back to 23.3.1 WHQL release works fine.
What I have tried: I have reinstalled 23.3.2 with the AMD Cleanup Utility, reset my in-game graphics settings and confirmed Freesync is enabled in the Adrenaline settings.
System Specifications:
- Operating System: Windows 11 22H2, OS Build 22621.1413 (Windows Key + R and type winver)

2023.04.01 16:37 SpiegelGeist Requesting assistance/recommendations on choosing the best decision for the final (Capital)gate issue, #797 "(Capital)gate: Yesterday’s News"
I was just wondering if anyone could assist me on which option to choose, since I am split between three options. To assist anyone kind enough to offer guidance, this is how I responded to the (Capital)gate issue chain thus far:
Issue #789:(Capital)gate (
https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Issue_No._789 ) I chose option #3: "“Instead of working against Mr. Maxman, why not work with him?” suggests Frankie Willis, your Minister of Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows. “Barry is pretty popular, and it wouldn’t hurt you to borrow some of his credibility. We... no... YOU need to apologize to him, along with anyone else who was victimized, and work with him to improve your public image. I bet you’ll find that you’ll survive this scandal much better by playing nice as opposed to acting belligerent. Who knows, he might even have some good ideas on how to actually run this country!”" ("@@
[email protected]@ is frequently seen begging critics to stop insulting the government.") this led to:
Issue #792:Why Can’t We Be Friends? (
https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Issue_No._792 ) I chose option #1: "“Thank you for agreeing to meet with me,” remarks Mr. Maxman, after handing you an autographed copy of his latest book, Johnny’s Government. “Now let’s get down to business. What I want, and I suspect many @@
[email protected]@ agree, is ridding this government of corruption once and for all. Scumbag corporate lobbyists and dirty politicians infest your government - they must all be arrested! You also need to guarantee freedom of the press, and ensure that the government will never again spy on private citizens in any way, shape or form. Finally, you personally must apologize for letting things get this bad, and agree to full government transparency forevermore.”" ("Politicians who misplace decimal points on expense reports are fired for gross incompetence.") which led to:
Issue #793:Knock Knock. Who’s There? Not You Anymore! (
https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Issue_No._793 ) I chose option #4: ""Well you've cleaned house, but there's still one thing you haven't done," observes Barry Maxman, who is currently in the process of writing a tell-all book about his ordeal. "Even if you say you weren't directly involved in these corrupt activities, they still happened under your watch, and under your administration. I suggest that you take responsibility for once in your life, and throw yourself in prison. It's the morally right thing to do. Remind the people that nobody is above the law, not even you."" ("@@
[email protected]@'s new office is 6 by 8 feet with steel walls and a barred door.") which leads to the final issue
Issue #797:Yesterday’s News (
https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Issue_No._797 ) I can't decide between
Option #1:" "The lesson from history is absolute power corrupts absolutely, and government cannot be trusted," points out Barry Maxman, whose new novel chronicling @@
[email protected]@gate recently topped the best seller list. "@@
[email protected]@gate was about unchecked corruption, censorship, and your gross incompetence. We must remember @@
[email protected]@gate, to make sure that no other person is intimidated the way I was. That should be its legacy."" ("Schoolchildren are taught to boo and hiss at @@
[email protected]@'s name.")
Option #4:""The lesson from history is the free press safeguards democracy," reminds media baron @@
[email protected]@, handing out free newspapers to everyone in the room. "If it weren't for the media, we might never have found out about the government's shady dealings. @@
[email protected]@gate reminds us that the free press must be protected at all costs, otherwise a dictatorship just might be around the corner."" ("Political cartoons depicting @@
[email protected]@'s face on @@
[email protected]@ @@
[email protected]@'s buttocks are selling like hotcakes.") and
Option #6:""The lesson from history is that democracy is the best form of government, for all others have been tried," states your sister, who now works as a democracy advocate throughout @@
[email protected]@. "This was a healthy reminder that we need to be a nation that freely elects its leaders, and we won't allow some dictator to walk all over us. You chose the noble path, dear @@
[email protected]@, and we'll continue to make sure that @@
[email protected]@ is respected throughout the land!"" ("The nation is regarded as a paragon of democracy.")
Considering how I navigated this event chain, which option should I choose, and why should I choose it? Would love to hear everyone's options and suggestions.
Thanks for reading this thread, and I hope everyone and their loved ones have a safe, happy, and healthy 2023! :)

2023.04.01 12:00 coolnavigator The Masculinity Dialectic
Background
To understand some concepts I'm going to use, I would invite everyone to
listen to this video. It's a reading of "Feeling Is The Secret" by Neville Goddard. You can obviously just get the book as well. It's only 44 pages. I think it happens to be something that works well as listening material for a 30 minute walk or drive. This is introductory material for self-initiation into the mysteries of the ancients. It outlines how one develops intent, after which the subconscious turns this intent into reality (internal reality), after which the self more or less acts automatically (still with conscious choice but an inherent limited capacity) to turn the internal reality into external reality. You may recognize its argument as being similar to popular book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne, but Goddard's treatment is far more profound and detailed, and it's only getting started!
I also suggest studying archetypes, which is really just symbolic/abstract psychology. A few avenues: Carl Jung, Jordan Peterson, Tarot cards, ancient pantheons from Scandinavia to Rome to Sumer, "tree of life" myths from Scandinavia to the Jewish Kabbalah, and other similar systems. Also useful are the dualistic concepts of the Chinese Yijing (philosophy of change). Even Plato. Plato’s cave is analogous to the internal reality which we confuse with external reality. It's not literal so much as it is a figurative cave we focus upon instead of coming and observing bare reality, with no ideals or assumptions blocking our view.
I'm going to try to put all of these together and arrive back at the original question of masculinity and the damage currently done.
The Mind
At a very early stage in one's life, the mind is whole. There are no separate archetypes — just one thing. Over time, the mind divides. At a physical level, the more obvious and significant division is the left/right hemisphere divide. At an archetypal level, it is the father / mother (or simply masculine/feminine) figures and the hero / adversary figures. I believe you can keep going with no real end. Every "figure" or archetype in the mind can be divided into two more, allowing for an infinite variety of models that the self is developed from. Within the father, you can develop the good father, the bad father, the strict but fair father, the hippie but wise father, etc. Same with the variations on the mother. I won't list out all of these variations but instead focus on the first level to really illustrate how this works.
What's actually happening here? I believe the fathemother divide isn't truly based on gender, but the genders do have a typical expertise in one or the other. Based on Goddard's description of the process from visualization to physical reality, there are two major steps:
- the creation of want (deciding what you want and visualizing it before bed)
- the realization of want (the dream-state where the subconscious is trained on the feelings produced before bed).
The creation step is the "masculine" part, which "impregnates" the subconscious with feelings to be realized. The realization step is the "feminine" part, which "births" a "new mind" (or "new life", if we are using reincarnation terminology) when you wake up. Roughly speaking, this implies the conscious part of the mind is "masculine" and the subconscious part of the mind is "feminine". I'll just say this one last time: the genderization of these parts of the mind are firstly symbolic of their role in the creation of the self, and secondly may or may not contain some truth as to how the two genders' minds work slightly differently.
The other dualistic concept is the hero / adversary. As in the Egyptian Osirian tradition, Horus (the hero) is merely a reincarnation of his father (Osiris, the father figure). Thus, the hero is merely the "newborn" conscious mind upon waking up. Given that the conscious self (the ego) can adhere to its predetermined code (from prior training in the subconscious), or it can go against that code, you naturally have a hero vs adversary contrast within the conscious mind. The adversary is simply the self which denies all assumptions, all ideals, all past truths. This is not strictly "bad", although it could be bad in some situations. More commonly, this is merely depicted as mischievousness in myth, and it is very useful, important for things like creativity.
Now, it's time to discuss where we are at as a society and what the real meaning of the memetic trends are.
The Change
The primary symbolic change in western culture is the "bad father" (or toxic masculinity). This has created a dialectic:
- Some people reject the father entirely. The participation trophies, the overprotective parenting, etc — that is acceptance of only the mother.
- Some people embrace the bad father. The "greed is good" ideology, the promoters of the Dark Triad, the growth of criminal and corrupt mindsets — that is acceptance of the bad father.
- Some people don't necessarily embrace the bad father concept, but they take a reactionary stance and reject the mother entirely. If you only embrace the father, you're creating want, but you don't know how to realize it. If you can't dream, the only thing you can do is see physical/existing reality. Thus, you have a sort of physical materialism. This is where materialism comes from: acceptance of only the father (and only the senses which are consciously registered).
This leads to a diminishing amount of people who:
- Still love the father (see masculinity in a good light). This is the idea of positive masculinity, is an expression of the ideal evolutionary game theory solution, which is protective altruism colloquially called "Tit for Tat". This is an expression of a system of thought which has the capacity for forgiveness and punishment, in order to limit the tragedy of the commons in repeated games scenarios (an accurate description of human interaction).
- Embrace the mother as the father (not love the mother as the mother, but who use fatherly love to love the mother). This is the masculine idea of guidance, is a preference for outcome-based morality rather than intent-based morality. This is founded on a belief of reason — actually living according to rational thought rather than the emotional creations of the subconscious. It is the idea that you "walk the dog" rather than letting the dog walk you. You're not really adding anything to the situation if you just love the mother as the mother; randomness + randomness = more randomness.
What all of this really means is our thought processes are fundamentally limited. The "masculine" is the conscious self, the "feminine" is the subconscious. In preferring the subconscious and in turning the conscious into an anti-social beast, we are a ship lost at sea. The conscious self isn't directing the ship towards its rightful destination (truth, virtue, human goodness), and the subconscious isn't able to steer the ship alone. A full human needs both of these parts. Without both, were are in some way inhumane. Barbaric, partial humans.
Historical Origins
It's beyond the scope of this to fully describe the origins of such a cultural shift. However, I will outline a few places to look and draw a loose connection through time. This isn't meant to be a proof, but a roadmap to guide the reader for further research (with personal verification).
There were two distinct types of attacks on authority in the past 500 years.
- One was republican (I will only say this once: "republican" does not mean the Republican political party) in nature, spawning humanist and republican ideals from the Italian renaissance to the American revolution and constitution.
- The other was collectivist in nature, spawning the Reformation, Marxism, and later "cultural Marxism" (or nearly everything you identify with modernist and post-modernist thought, including its latest spawn, wokeism).
These two groups claim to have a common enemy, an authoritarian elite, but their actual philosophies differ greatly.
- Individualism is a core (but not the core) philosophy within republicanism, which is in stark contrast to collectivism. The republicans (from Plato to George Washington) believed in a natural order that must be encouraged through freedoms but tempered by the state, which must be stronger than the strongest cartels in private that would otherwise "rule" the people in a de facto sense (like we have now with state corporatism).
- Collectivism denies any inherent goodness of a natural order (insofar as it is described as a hierarchy), striving for a sort of created equality. It argues the true natural order is equality, and this is only tainted by essentially the inherent "evilness" of humanity, or at bare minimum the negligence of humanity.
As you can see, these two views are diametrically opposed. One views the creative power of humanity as essentially good, albeit flawed. The other views the creative power of humanity as essentially bad. You can see this thoroughly in modern and post-modern art, which acts as a parody to the human condition. It is consumed as the contrived, vain laugh by the very bourgeois that it claims to oppose. This self-hating (or completely out of touch, if they don't realize their own hypocrisy) class of people rules our current society as "the establishment", "the cathedral", "the regime". They are more directly left wing, but they are thoroughly within the right wing and thus represent both choices in our false dialectic of not only our political process, but the morals of our society as a whole.
To return to our cultural shift, the "bad father" arises from an attack by the collectivist schools of thought on all of society for the sins of a small minority. One way of elucidating this is: a few men at the top did some bad things, so
all men are bad. It wasn't immediately like this, however. It started with the idea of: "if some Catholic leaders are bad, then all Catholic leaders are" (Reformation). Then, "if some men are unfairly attaining higher status after birth than other men, then all men are essentially cheating themselves from this theoretical 'blank slate' of existence" (Lockean philosophy). Then, "if some corporations (or owners of capital) are out of control, then all of them are" (Marxism). On and on, into the 20th century where we saw arguments by people such as Marcuse to return to a state of primitive sexuality and by feminists to return to a state without even a concept of gender to the latest thoughts, which outright make the claim that men are the enemy of all people, particularly any men which cling to any of the older modalities.
This is a war on human reason, which is a war on human nature itself. Nietzsche saw reason as a fusion of the Apollonian and the Dionysian. There are two equivalent ways of breaking down that terminology, but the intent is the same. Perhaps the Dionysian is the good and pure masculine figure, whereas the Apollonian is the adversary figure, thus making the preference for the Apollonian a sort of highly masculine, bad father-esque philosophy. Perhaps the Apollonian is masculinity as a whole, and Dionysian is the femininity as a whole (albeit depicted as a male Dionysus because, ya know, Greeks). Either way, the point is that you need a balance of these figures. And so, to return to the original quote I used as theme "God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him.", the gist is that an imbalance was created, either by killing a holistic concept of a unified "god" in the self (creating the male vs female dialectic), or by assigning this "god" concept to either the conscious or subconscious part of the mind and killing it. As stated above, the clear meaning of Nietzsche's arguments is the creation of the dialectic, the splitting of the whole, and the imbalancing of the the bicameral mind in everyone.

2023.04.01 07:45 GrayWitchMidnight [P5V1] A crack theory about their names
As I said in the title this is a crack theory not a serious one so feel free to dismiss it if you don’t like it.
Do the names that Rozemyne receive for the God of Darkness and Goddess of Light have any impact on the story or any insight into her character’s future? I began wondering this because each archduke candidate receives their own version of the names and as far as we can tell, being that no one shares them, they are unique to the individuals so it could be that the meanings of the names could have some insight of the person receiving them or their future. The names Rozemyne received are Schicksantracht, which appears to be derived from the words schicksal, meaning fate, and eintracht, meaning unity/harmony, for the God of Darkness and Versprechredi, which appears to be derived from versprechen, meaning promise, and redi, meaning lady or corruption, for the Goddess of Light. As such we can read their names as meaning fated union/harmony and promised lady/corruption, but since these two are a pair the first and second parts could be switched around giving us fated lady/corruption and promised union/harmony.
With this we can interpret that Rozemyne is or will be someone who will change/altedestroy the country as it currently is and unify it in the process, such a thing she is already in the process of doing.

Rinaldo Rizzo, Dubin’s chef, testified that sexual activities occurred between Dubin and a 15-year-old girl, which led to him and his wife quitting as personal chefs of the Dubins. Dubin’s wife, Dr. Eva Andersson-Dubin, dated Epstein for a long time before she married Dubin. The couple was so close with Epstein that even after Epstein was convicted in 2008 and officially a registered sex offender, they invited him to Thanksgiving dinner and wrote a letter to his probation officer that they trusted him around their children, who were all minors at the time. Multiple sources say Epstein was actually their children’s Godfather, but a spokesman for the couple denies it. Glen Dubin and Epstein helped each other with their business ties, as well.
