2023.05.30 23:19 Peanuttttssss The Pure Order Program
I had a drug problem, and I lived a very chaotic live. I frequently went to bars just to do cocaine with friends and fight people in the bar.
One of my female friends was very concerned about my way of living. I said that it really wasn't that bad. But one day when I got very high on cocaine and I crashed my motorcycle in a farmfield somewhere and laid there until sunrise, I knew it was time to try to change my life. The female friend, named Emma, was very reliefed that I had the courage to ask her for help.
She immediately started to figure stuff out to help me, and after a while she told me she found a program somewhere in the mountains deep in the forest that helped people get rid of their addictions.
The name of the program was ''Pure Order''. I was a bit sketchy at first, but I love the mountains and nature so I thought I could always give it a try.
The only problem, was that I was from New Jersey, and the program was in Montana. But Emma was willing to pay along for the trip, and she'd even come with me to drop me off to make sure I arrived safely.
At the airport, a car, that was part of the Pure Order program, would take us there. The driver was a man in a suit, with combed black hair, a well kept goatee and mustache. He was wearing a dress shirt, suspenders and cowboy boots.
It was a peculiar look that I instantly noticed. It was a very hipster look, but also a very country look. It was a 5 hour, if not more, ride from the airport to the place where the Pure Order program was. It was very deep in the woods and mountains, and very far away from civilization.
When we arrived, I saw 10 feet high walls, made out of wooden beams, with barbed wire at the top. It kinda looked like a military camp to me, but also like a scouting camp. It was close to a very big lake, surrounded by a dense forest.
The big wooden doors opened, and a nice dressed gentleman was standing in the door opening. Also with suspenders, big beard, combed hair, tinted glasses, nice white dress shirt, a black Bolo tie, and a suit jacket.
I noticed some kind of dress code, but I thought that was to tell the staff members apart from the people. The man who greeted me was a very nice man, and super welcoming. Then we heard a gunshot in the distance, and I saw birds fly up from the treelines.
The man was obviously startled by the gunshot, and me and Emma looked at each other. The man said ''Its hunting season, we take the people outside hunting as one of the many outdoor activities we have around the camp'' in a laughing tone with a smile.
The man welcomed me in, and Emma was not allowed in since she wasn't part of the Pure Order program, so they politely asked her to leave. And the driver would take her back to the airport.
The man talked to me for a bit, while we walked to my bed where I could put my stuff and ''Make myself'' at home. I walked into one of those typical summer camp sleeping places, with two rows of bunk beds on each side of the walls, once again very military like.
The man noticed the look on my face and he told me not to worry, as we would only sleep here, and we would be doing activities all day.
Lastly he asked me if he could have my phone, so I'm not distracted by the outside world and we can focus on me getting better instead. I was hesitant at first, but the way he said it just made sense, and before I thought about it I handed over my phone.
Not that my phone had any signal anyway.
He asked that if I had any questions, I could always ask him. I was scared to ask questions but for some reason I just blurted out all the questions I had.
I asked about the barbed wire, why we are so far away from civilization, why I had to hand my phone over even though I didn't have any signal.
He politely told me that the barbed wire was because the wildlife would sometimes climb over the wooden walls. He told me we are so far away from civilization because they don't want anyone to get the urge to get distracted by day to day society, and fall back into our old habits.
I had to hand over my phone because I would be distracted by it, even though I didn't have any signal, they just wanted to be completely sure that I would get better.
That night we would gather around the campfire, the staff members were there, and the other people in the program. The staff introduced me, and I was kinda awkwardly sitting there, but the other people in the program were very inviting as well.
They told me about the program, they had big smiles on their faces and they looked genuinely happy. They showed interest in me, asking me where I came from, what my goal was, told me about their issues and how the program have really helped them so far.
I felt like I wasn't alone, and that I could actually be helped. Almost all my suspicion disappeared. The heat of the fire was getting a bit hot, so I took off my flannel, revealing some of my tattoos. People in the group were very interested in my tattoos.
I had a tribal tattoo that looked like waves, with a boat sailing on the waves. I said it was because one of my best friends was in the navy, and he sadly lost his life in was, and I had the tattoo out of respect for him.
One of the staff member showed me his tattoo. It was a tattoo on his forearm. It looked like a ''Phi'' symbol from the Greek alphabet, but instead of the circle, it was an eye. He said he got the tattoo when he ''Reached enlightenment''.
I didn't know what that meant, but you know, I don't judge, we all got our things, and I was just happy he ''reached his enlightenment''.
As I was getting ready for bed, one of the other people in the program came up to me and told me ''Welcome to the program, one piece of advice, make sure to smile.'' I thought he meant that we had to smile so we don't bring down the mood for the other people and we keep things positive.
So I brushed off what he said, and made sure to keep a positive mindset.
The next day we did all kinds of activities, we painted, we went fishing, we had a couple (Non alcoholic) drinks and it was a very good experience.
When I was getting another drink from the cooler, one of the staff members came up to me, saying that I had a very rough look, with the tattoos and I had a cut in my eyebrow from a bar fight when someone pulled out a knife and tried to cut my face.
I told him about the fight I've gotten in, and said that I could ''basically defend myself''. He said that if I'd like, I could sign up for a boxing match that would be happening that night. He said that they would have boxing matches, so the people could blow off some steam, and since I had a history of fighting he thought it would be something for me. I was actually very excited, so I decided to sign up.
That night I put on the boxing gloves and fought one of the other people in the program. It was a close match but I managed to win. He was laying on the ground, still consious. As I was celebrating they told me to ''End the fight''.
I had a very confused look on my face, the fight ended, he coulnd't fight anymore and I won. But every staff member kept chanting ''End the fight''. I realised I had to kill him. The man that welcomed me at the door, told everyone to be quiet and he told me ''End the fight, prove to yourself that you have what it takes to make a change. Otherwise you don't have what it takes, and we would be forced to take matters in our own hands.'' while putting one hand on a revolver. When I looked around, I saw the other people in the program just silently looking at me. Their eyes looked empty. All of them knew what had to be done, because they were once in my spot.
I realised that if I didn't kill the man in front of me, I would be the one that would not make it out of here. I looked at the mans face, he had this facial expression that begged me for mercy, but he also understood what had to be done. I shut off my mind, and my survival instinct just took over. I killed that man with my bare hands.
I came to the realisation that this wasn't a program to help people get better. This is a cult. And now that I killed that man, I had officially joined the cult.
I walked up to the man who greeted me at the gate the next day, as I got the impression that he was most likely the leader of the cult. I overheard some staff members drop the name ''Head of Order Edgar'', so as I walked towards him I said ''Edgar?'' and he looked up and asked what was wrong?
I tried to maintain calm but couldn't really contain myself and I asked ''What the fuck was that all about yesterday?'' in a very shaken voice. Edgar told me that I had to choose a new path in life, that I had to make a change in my life, and have the strength to make a life or death decision. As the was telling me these things, I noticed the ''Phi'' tattoo in Edgar's neck. The exact same one the other fella showed me before.
I looked at him with a scared but understanding face, while in my mind all I could think was ''These guys are absolutely nuts.'' I knew I had to escape somehow, even though it could be my death with all the wildlife out there, I had to at least try.
The next few days I went along with all their activities, while trying to figure out the patterns of the cult members. I managed to find an oppurtunity to escape. I noticed that every night, after all the program members would go to sleep, the cult members would gather around and they would have a few drinks.
I knew it was risky as it would be very easy to detect me if I were to sneak out, but I had to try.
So after a couple nights, I gathered the courage to sneak out. I slightly opened the door and I noticed the cult members gathered around the campfire. There were even more cult members then I thought, all dressed in the dress shirts, long beards, suspenders etcetera. I sneaked out of the cabin and the door cracked as I opened it.
The cult members heard the sound but brushed it off, but they did stay on their guard. I thought about sneaking back inside the cabin but I knew this had to be my moment, now I had the courage to make a move. I decided to keep going, and sneak towards a weaker spot in the wooden walls.
As I got closer to the wooden wall, a dog in a cage started barking at me. I panicked and kicked down the weak part of the wall and managed to get out of the walls. I felt so free, but I wasn't out there yet. I didn't have time to think and I heard the cult members scream and load weapons.
I didn't think about anything, I just started running, and I heard the screaming get further and further away. I just kept running, I had no idea what way I was running, where I was, it was pitch dark, I guess around 3 am. I heard bullets whizzing by my head, bullets hitting the trees, right next to me.
I zigzagged and all my legs could do was just run. I kept hearing the screaming in the distance, then it got closer and closer and I kept hearing bullet whizzing by. Then out of nowhere, I felt a sharp pain in my leg, I tried to get up but my leg felt heavy, I thought I was struck by as bullet, but my leg got caught in a bear trap. I tried to pry it open, I screamed from the pain, the screaming from the cult members got closer and closer. My heart was raising. And as I looked up I was looking directly into the face of a cult member, with his weapon leaning on his shoulder. He didn't look happy.
They dragged me through the woods, like I was some kind of animal. They said that they had a place for ''people like me''. They dragged me to a tiny shed deep into the woods. It had no windows, just some very small holes in the wood of the shed that let some light from the upcoming sun in.
They strapped me to a chair, and put tape over my mouth. I heard the sound of a shotgun getting cocked behind me. I felt a very cold metal rod getting pushed into the side of my head, the barrel of the shotgun. I was breathing very heavily, I couldn't scream. I felt one single tear roll down my face.
As I looked through one of the holes in the shed, I was looking at the sunrise. I heard a gunshot, and all my pain disappeared. All I could see was Edgar welcoming new people at the gate, as he smiled and said ''Aahhh, hunting season.''

2023.05.30 23:17 Character_Plenty_891 New eldar player, what are some units to get started with?
For context- I’m not new to 40k, been playing for over a year. Looking to get started with eldar in 10th, because I figured the best time to learn a new codex is when the entire thing gets revamped and nobody knows anything anyway.
With that said, what are some standard unit choices that aren’t expected to change in 10th? I want to get some stuff to start painting before launch. I already plan on getting a farseer and guardian defenders, but what else is a solid bet to be playable? Dire avengers? Some of the bikes? I really have no idea, any input would be great.
I’m not asking what is expected to be “the best”, I know rules change and all that. Just what can be counted on to probably be playable.

2023.05.30 23:13 Brick_Block_297 "Don't Look Up" (2021), and the idea of political satire being "too heavy handed". I'd like to look into how the reception to this film can show us how general audiences perceive socio-political commentary, and what kind of commentary they're comfortable with.
Guess I'm a bit late to the party on this one...but honestly, maybe that's for the better. Internet discourse of film, and other narrative based media feels like its at its worst, and I think "Don't Look Up" is a great film to use for opening this discussion.
(...Also, this is secretly a hate-post for "The Batman"...)
For some context, "Don't Look Up" (2021) is an Adam McKay movie centered around an asteroid hitting the earth. The asteroid is an obvious commentary for climate change, and our protagonists are two scientists (played by Leonardo Dicaprio, and Kate Dibiasky) who desperately try to convince the US government to take action. The government has the ability to stop the asteroid, but refuses to because a tech CEO obviously based on Mark Zuckerberg makes a deal with the Republican president (played by Meryl Streep). Leonardo Dicaprio's character sells out to the tech CEO and Republicans, only to regret everything when its too late. The asteroid hits earth, and the top 1% escape on a spaceship.
This film is extremely, and I mean extremely in your face about its sociopolitical critique. The movie constantly makes fun of how working-class Republicans will parrot whatever the president says. The title itself, "Don't Look Up", is a slogan meant to be joke stand-in for Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again". The way the government refuses to take action against the asteroid is an obvious commentary on how our governments barely do against climate change. The film also makes fun of performative progressivism, as with the sellout scientist and concert scene.
Anyway, I've used the word "obviously" so many times now, its clear "Don't Look Up" is a very heavy handed film. I don't know if Adam McKay is the hardcore progressive leftist his film makes him out to be, but regardless, I absolutely love "Don't Look Up". Its heavy handed commentary is what makes this film for me.
However, upon release the film was met with a mixed reception. It currently stands at a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes, and much of the discussion was about how the film was pretentious, due to its heavy-handed message. Especially on Reddit, which seemed to hate this film. And I was really surprised honestly. The internet embodiment of "☝🤓 ermmm, ack-shually!" was calling for more subtly in this film's political commentary? The same website that doesn't shut up about Idioacracy and Blazing Saddles?
But, I think I know why "Don't Look Up" was hit with this reception. It isn't just that don't look up is a heavy handed, in your face kind of movie...its that the themes, messages, and setting, are all directly linked to our current world. It isn't a hypothetical dystopia like Idiocracy, or a century old wild west like Blazing Saddles. "Don't Look Up" takes place in our current political climate.
When "Don't Look Up" criticizes Republicans, it isn't talking about a cartoonish stand-in for the Republicans. Its talking about the current, real world Republicans. When it criticizes media propaganda, it directly references the tactics used by the very real Donald Trump. When it criticizes billionaire CEOs, it uses a character that is identical to our real world billionaire CEOs in all but name.
"Don't Look Up" did what most political commentary is too afraid to to...it directly tackled the issues it was commenting on. Even the fictional asteroid is still really on-the-nose about what its meant to be. It reminds me of when Gareth Marenghi said this...
"I know writers who use subtext...and they're all cowards!:
Maybe he was exaggerating for the bit...but I love this qoute. Because honestly, in our current political climate, what use does subtly have? In America right now, the political climate is constantly getting worse. The removal of women's rights, the attack on LGBTQ+ people, the slow death of the working class, and as "Don't Look Up" shows, the constant enderdagement to our environment. If you're gonna' talk about these very real, very harmful issues...why tiptoe around it? To make the people causing the harm more comfortable?
I think its important to note that on social media, I saw dozens of posts by people in the climate field praise "Don't Look Up", specifically because the on-the-nose nature of this movie represented how they felt. And honestly, that's pretty good proof that being subtle would've been to the detriment of this film. This film did what good political satire is meant to do. It appeased to the people being drowned out by those in power, and relentlessly critiqued those in power.
The funny thing is this...I'm always seeing people post about how they want more "mature" content that tackles real world issues. Especially on Reddit, in which people never shut up about the idea of the "mature reboot". And the thing is...this website actually loves media with heavy-handed messaging. But as I mentioned earlier, people don't want the messaging to actually be directly relevant to a real world topic. They just want media that alludes the the idea of socio-political commentary.
Its why Reddit loves media such as The Witcher III, Idiocracy, Blazing Saddles, early Game Of Thrones, Cyberpunk 2077, Blade Runner 2049. Yes, these pieces of media are very heavy handed in their themes, but because they use fictional stand-ins for their messages, it makes them safer to all audiences, and makes their critisizm less direct in some ways.
But I think the best example of how the internet interprets socio-political commentary, and what kind of commentary this audience is comfortable with, is Matt Reeve's "The Batman" 2022. This movie is currently one of the ineternet's darlings, and people are obsessed with just how "mature" and "deep" this movie is.
Thing is though, as far as socio-political commentary goes...The Batman is a big nothing burger. The movie starts by introducing a bunch of very real socio-political ideas, such as the corrupt police, the politicians being controlled by a few rich people, the underground sex-trafficking in Gotham, or how domestic terrorists use the internet as a means of recruitment. And yet by the end of the film, none of these ideas amount to anything. They're all just window dressing for a fanservice Batman flick whose only moral theme is "Batman doesn't kill", as a corporate apology for Batman Vs. Superman.
The big moral moments of this film are Batman stopping Selina from killing the man who controls all of the corruption in Gotham, and Batman feeling sad because he punched a domestic terrorist too hard. Its almost hilarious honestly, because its clear that the Riddler's terrorist gang was based off of Q-anon, and if anything, the only thing that stopped them on January 6th was when a shot was fired into the inserrectunist crowd. So the whole "Batman needs to be more merciful to the villains" arc is actually the opposite of a real-world critique.
But that's the thing. The Batman isn't actually mature. It has nothing to say about our current world or political state. It just takes real world issues, and uses them as an aesthetic for a moral theme that doesn't actually fit in with said issues. And the thing is, The Batman is an incredibly heavy-handed movie. Just as much as Don't Look Up honestly. But the difference is, The Batman's heavy handed narrative is used only for Batman's "no kill rule", not any of the real world issues the film is introduced with.
And that's kinda' my whole point. There's a reason most people online love movies like The Batman. These movies treat socio-political commentary as window dressing, using some real world issues in the most surface level manner possible, then never making an actual conclusion in them. Because of that, movies like The Batman are incredibly safe movies, and are basically "enlightened centrist" fantasies with no bite.
Whereas something like Don't Look Up will actively target real world issues, and directly build its entire film around them. The film pulls no punches, and its clear what the targets of its commentary are. And because of that, this film's meaning can't be twisted in any way. There's no "both sides are just as bad" narrative here to make all audiences feel comfortable. This film knows what its about, and sticks to it.
And here's the thing...I'm not saying all movies that tackle real socio-political issues need to be super direct, and call out real names like Don't Look Up. The examples I listed before The Batman are good media, and they have a place in the world of film, TV, and gaming.
But what I am saying is that it feels like most audiences are just flat out afraid of any meaningful socio-political commentary. Even when it comes to a political satire, its as if audiences will only feel comfortable as long as the film is vague enough that it never directly makes a statement on a real world issue. And even if it does directly comment on something, as long as its disconnected enough from our reality, they'll be safe with it. Because it means it doesn't have to make them uncomfortable with the current state of our world. And because of that, when they're met with a socio-political commentary that actually has some bite to it, they're immediately bothered by the heavy-handedness of it. Because that means they have to confront real world issues in media, and for a lot of these people, media should be escapism, and nothing more.
To end this off, I'd like to mention the original piece of political satire...Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal". Written to offend the ruling class by comparing their treatment of the poor to cannabilism during a period of mass poverty in Ireland. I can guarantee you that some people thought Swift had went too far with this paper. Thing is, who do you think those people were? And who do you think his supporters were?

My mind toys with the idea you're fucking with me.
Anyways...
I'm trying to forgive myself for not being who I want to be right now. Although, the thought that it's being used to paint a portrait makes me anxious most days. Sometimes I feel bad for letting you take on most of the work, sometimes it feels selfish. Although, I don't think you cared much when you did it to me for the larger part of our life. So I guess I shouldn't feel bad because the reality is your just making up for what you failed to do in the first place.

2023.05.30 23:05 LeonardDaVinxi USA under $750, primarily buying it to use Microsoft Office more effectively. But I also would like to do some light gaming, (HOI4, Minecraft, Universe Sandbox).
The title pretty much says all, I have an M1 MacBook but MacOS still isn't as supported as Windows for my accounting classes, so I'd ideally want something that feels similar or looks aesthetically pleasing. Im open to refurbished or renewed products, I've looked at this
Asus Vivobook 15 and the
Lenovo IdeaPad 5.
I have a PS5 so heavy gaming isn't really a must, but just like I said light gaming once every blue moon, but will be mostly used for browsing and doing homework!

2023.05.30 23:00 KedarBayley012 Complete list of notable Kendall losses.
- Vote of no confidence - Logan kills him. (1.06)
- Failed bear hug due to his involvement in the waiter’s death - Logan now owns him. (1.10)
- Forced to axe his greatest contribution to the company in Vaulter, for nothing more than a move from Logan. (2.02)
- Attempted suicide failed due to installed glass windows. (2.04)
- Forced by Logan to visit the waiter’s family, as nothing more than a power play. (2.07)
- Chosen by the family, largely due to Shiv’s words, to be the human sacrifice for cruises despite his brilliant DC testimony. (2.10)
- Emotionally abused by Shiv in an open letter to the public, detailing his private life. (3.03)
- Physically assaulted and abused by Roman at his own birthday. After being made aware of their plan to acquire GoJo, which was his own idea. (3.07)
- Verbally and emotionally abused by Logan for his role in the waiter’s death, denied an exit from the company and a fresh start. (3.08)
- Failed suicide attempt and failure to prevent Logan from selling the company. (3.09)
- Zero notable failures throughout Season 4 until the failure.
- Blocked by Shivs during the final vote to secure control as CEO and keep control of Waystar. (4.10)
Just a few observations whilst writing this list. Firstly, Kendall’s failures are so extensive. Secondly, his arc during the fourth season is noticeably different, he is an entirely different person. Finally, I’m just not convinced his fate was deserved or even logical, considering the lengths the writers went to in painting him as a vastly different Kendall from that of Season 1, 2 and 3.
Probably the most tragic character in television history. Almost zero positive moments until S4 in a 40 episode series.

2023.05.30 22:55 PenroseKnight Just Finished Assassins Creed Unity.
Ok, so going into this just want to make a few things clear.
- I am fairly new to the AC franchise, only started in 2020.
- My first AC game was Brotherhood, which I only played about 5 hours of, then I played through and completed AC3 before returning and finishing BH
- I LOVED AC3, Combat was an absolute dream, Experiencing the Parkour basically for the first time was very fun, The setting is awesome, I thought Connor was interesting, and honestly liked him more than Ezio (still kinda do tbh), and really just enjoyed every aspect of the game, (accept a few of the minigames revolving around leading a squadron of troops, or anything involving riding a horse.)
- After I was finished both BH (enjoyed the game, not as much as 3 but still had a great time overall) and 3, I decided to give Unity a try after reading some reviews saying it was a rough start but game was polished now. Played maybe 3-4 hours total
- Got busy with life, forgot about Unity for a while, ended up buying Black Flag on sale and playing 10-15 hours before I remembered about Unity and decided to return to it, where I then finished it (NOT DEAD KINGS, HAVE NOT FINESHED IT, SO I WILL NOT BE TALKING ABOUT IT)
That Is all the context needed for where I'm at now.
I do not like Assassins Creed Unity.
Now hear me out, before all you Unity fans jump at me screaming "UNITY IS MOST UNDERRATED GAME OF ALL TIME BLAH BLAH BLAH!" remember...
- At time of release Unity was called terrible because it was a buggy mess, Then they fixed the game so it actually works as intended and now everybody sings its praises... This game is not underrated, People love this game and if you look at the comment section of any YouTube video even mentioning Unity people cant help but say "Unity is my fav game omg so underrated".
- I'm not an old school Assassins Creed player who would sell there firstborn child to meet Ezio, I don't dislike the game just because "its not AC2 or BH so its bad".
- I do genuinely think there are good things about this game.
- This is just my opinion.
Ok, so lets start with what's good about Unity.
- Parkour. An obvious one, when you start to understand the controls it is gorgeous to look at and flows like water.
- Paris. Place is pretty. NPCs look good, The larger landmarks are really cool, and they nailed the atmosphere.
- Music. Soundtrack is good.
- Arno's Weapons. The single Hidden Blade animations, the Phantom Blade, Cherry bombs, all cool, fun to use.
- Animations. As mentioned above, the single Hidden Blade, and generally just most animations looks super good.
- Detective missions. Play as Sherlock Holmes for a bit, pretty fun.
- Don't honestly care about the modern day story, but the World War Eiffel Tower segment was really cool.
Now lets talk about the average.
- Combat. Nothing to write home about. Perfectly serviceable, not incredibly fun (I understand the point of Unity, and all AC games really, Is to be stealthy and avoid combat, still keeping it in the average category.)
- Stealth. I've heard people Praise Unity's stealth and honestly, I don't get the hype. Its fine, better than AC3, that's for sure, but not as good as BH, so idk.
- Arno. He didn't annoy me, so that's good, But planks of wood leaning against a building don't annoy me either. Lukewarm 5/10 protagonist.
- Elise. I really want to like Elise, but I feel like she got less interesting as the story went on.
- Bugs. If your wondering why this is in the average category, its because at no point did they feel worse then the other 3 AC games I played. Pretty few and far between, and rarely game breaking.
- Open world Objectives. There are lots of them sure, but there for the most part pretty easy to do and don't take long.
And finally the Bad.
- The UI. Weird opener, right? But for real, The UI felt very... Obtrusive? Maybe that's unfair, as I suppose its not technically much different from the other games, but I found my self playing without it most of the time, which was frustrating because I kept needing it for things. (Maybe not a fair point, but I'm just relaying my experience.)
- The Story. It felt like the Devs made no effort in trying to make the players care. Sure it opens alright, and the betrayal had at least some emotional impact, but stuff keeps happening and it doesn't really feel like there are any ramifications, Like Arno gets kicked from the Brotherhood and within one sequence you would literally have no idea that was the case, and Elise's Death didn't really pull the heartstrings.
- Setting wasted. Sort of a combined point with above, but more egregious. Whoever wrote the story for this game to the LITERAL FRENCH REVOULTION, on of the most interesting historical events in the last 500 years, and did jack shit with it. The trailers paint this picture of Arno rising up against a tyrannical French government, and guess what? That never happens. Super disappointing.
- Gear Stats. Want to look like badass assassin? Well fuck you, The Phantom Hood with the stupid feather in it has way better stats then what you have, and you have to wear it unless you want to be handicapped.
- Microtransactions. I payed full price for the game, Ubisoft, stop trying to make my buy "Helix credits".
- Unskippable cutscenes that last way to long.
- Eagle Vision needs to recharge. Why.
I'm not saying Unity is objectively terrible, I was just very disappointed.
Would be happy to hear everybody's thoughts.

2023.05.30 22:53 Visible-Excuse8478 In all my talks I am giving a new interpretation to words
As I have said repeatedly, words are only of value if they convey the true significance of the ideas behind the words. If you remember this, then there will be no confusion. You cannot describe something which is indescribable in words; but words must be used, as a painter uses paint on a canvas, to convey the significance of his vision. But if you are merely caught in the technique of painting, then you will not catch the full significance of the idea which the painter wishes to convey. In all my talks, I am giving a new interpretation to words. It will be very difficult therefore for you to understand, if you are merely caught in the words. You must go beyond the words, and strive to catch the significance which I give to those words, and not just give to them your own convenient meaning.

2023.05.30 22:37 Toothyers Lagoona repaint concepts?
Had the idea to repaint/ touch up the gem 3 lagoona if I got her- there’s two directions I considered; a more “creature-concept” (2nd pic) (grey siren eyes, fangs to match her show version) or a more touched-up version of what I’m guessing Mattel tried to reach aesthetic-wise. Any preferences to either of these? submitted by Toothyers to MonsterHigh [link] [comments]
2023.05.30 22:30 gravygrowinggreen Two companies, two case studies in communication.
Last week, the developers at Ghost Ship Games released previews of a cosmetic DLC pack they planned on selling next month. The reaction to this cosmetic pack was mixed to say the least. People did not believe it was up to the usual quality standard of Ghost Ship Games. In light of that, this week, Ghost Ship Games released a new communications update on a central platform (Steam, with mirrored posts on Reddit and other forums).
They explained that the customers were right, and in light of that feedback, they had redone the cosmetics, with significantly improved details to make the guns stand out a lot more. They included a detailed video and image preview of the new cosmetics. And to top it all off, they promised to include both versions of the cosmetics in the upcoming content drop, with the old version of the paint job being included in the free update. Note the steps taken in this communication.
- Admission of the issue.
- Detailed explanation of how the issue will be resolved, that leaves nothing to the imagination.
It is a simple formula. Only two steps. Of course, step 2 requires that a solution for the issue be in the works. Crucially, there were no announcements about the announcement. No "next week's" about how you'll hear more. No countdowns to patch notes. It is a strategy so simple, I'm only able to write this much about it. It is a good strategy. A strategy so good, that I, a very creative complainer and whiner, can't find anything to complain or whine about.
Now consider essentially 6 months of communication by Fat Shark. Let's track one issue. Crafting.
- In the first month of release, communications largely promised that a complete crafting system was coming soon. Some week in December (2022, being implied).
- What followed was a long period of chained in sequence "next week, we'll tell you more", cementing the phrase "next week" in darktide meme history.
- Eventually, after Catfish assumes the duties of community manager, and to her enormous credit, we get the "open letter". This was perhaps the closest Fat Shark has had to having good communications. Unfortunately, old habits die hard. The open letter identified issues (incomplete crafting system; unsatisfying progression loop; poor performance optimization), and at least implied a solution (delaying seasonal content rollout and the xbox series xls launch, while suspending the upcoming releases of premium cosmetics; in order to have a "sole focus" on addressing feedback). Things are looking up. A new communications manager has taken over, and communications appear to be if not great, at least significantly improved.
- Unfortunately, soon after this still somewhat vague letter, Fat Shark was back to its old habits. The crafting update came out, along with steady performance optimization. But open, candid communications slowly ceased. After the crafting update came out, Fat Shark has been virtually radio silent on the failure of that update to address the game's issues. If one were to go purely by communications by the company, it would be difficult to believe they even recognize those issues currently exist.
- Since the crafting update, the only post by u/Fatshark_Catfish that I can identify which acknowledges crafting is an issue is this But we still have a real lack of actual communication. Outside this one post, barely any mention of any issues the game has.
So what can we learn about Fat Shark's communication strategy? If it doesn't involve outright lies (as it did in December 2022 when they promised a completed crafting system in December), it involves deliberate silence, and a refusal to acknowledge any issues. Apparently, if you don't admit your game has flaws, you don't have to address them.
Compare the two companies. I have a reasonable idea about what exactly GSG has been working on based on their release schedule and communications to players. I have no idea what Fat Shark has been working on. It is left to my imagination, and my imagination suspects they've just been focusing on a console port, past messaging to the contrary be damned. Even if they are working on the console port as their sole focus, them openly, honestly acknowledging this would be preferable to their attempt to string an entire community along with a drip feed of content while pretending they're doing their best.
You know what would be most preferable? If they could simply, openly, and honestly, state what the community's issues with the game are, and whether they plan to do anything about those issues. Even if the answer with respect to our example, crafting, is "no, while the community believes that is an issue, we do not", this answer would be preferable to their current strategy of "silence and let the community fester in false hope". It would be more respectful to the players that they need for this game to survive. It would treat people as actual customers, rather than products to be deceived.
To be clear, I don't think any of this is
u/Fatshark_Catfish's fault. If anything, the open letter that occurred after she took over the community manager position indicates that she knows how to do her job right. And her continued silence in the face of the game's numerous issues is a policy set by management. So this is a fat shark problem, not a catfish problem. Fat Shark would do well to actually let catfish do her job, if that is correct.
Anyways, rock and stone lads.
EDIT: It occurred to me that I should do more to explain why open, direct communication is a good strategy for a company too. This is a good strategy for two reasons:
- It fills in the gap. If a company chooses to not even address issues in their communications, they leave their customers to guess and imagine how the company will eventually attempt to address the issues later. This is bad. People are cynical. They will imagine the worst in the absence of any evidence to the contrary. People like me will imagine that the company is doing something silly, like porting a broken game to a console in the middle of a virulent community rage storm about the status of that game. Addressing issues, even if you merely address them to say that they are not issues, prevents this sort of speculation.
- It builds up credit. A history of open, honest, and direct communication gives you breathing room when you can't actually engage openly or honestly for whatever reason. If a Fat Shark representative posted in this thread that all my issues will be addressed in three months, but they can't tell me how, I wouldn't believe them. If a GSG representative posted in their thread that they had to delay the patch for half a year for vague reasons they couldn't legally talk about, I would believe them. The difference is that GSG has built up a reputation for being forthright and honest with their customers, and Fat Shark has spent the last month avoiding the phrase "next week" in communication, because they've used it too often to weasel out of deadlines without getting memes made.

2023.05.30 22:26 so_many_rocks Neighbor's house has lead paint flaking off
I have no idea if this is even the right sub for this question. My nextdoor neighbors house is in ok condition, except for the flakes of paint chipping off and falling into my driveway. A friend mentioned the paint has an "alligator skin texture" like lead paint. So i got a 3m brand lead test and swabbed on of the paint chips. Its definitely lead paint. I asked ny neighbor if he knew his paint was flaking off and he said "it is what it is". Should i be concerned about this? Is there anything i should be doing? He has been using a leaf blower and blows the paint flakes into the road and stormwater drain. Thanks!

2023.05.30 22:23 SalernoXbox Honest Review of Fender Professional II Stratocaster - It plays better than my LP Standard which costs more than double the price
Fender really nailed it with this guitar, there isn't really anything to say aside from the price tag but then again, I genuinely believe that this is the best Stratocaster for what you get for the money. The Performer series would be a close second. I tried a few ultras in the store and the neck was super fast, but I personally preferred the deep c neck as it felt more like the original standard I know and love. The deep c is not "deep" at all, in fact it's more slim than the modern d on my les paul standard. It has nice fullness on the edges that gives the hand something to grip, playing chords is much more comfortable on the deep c I found than the slimmer necks. I'll break the strat down into all the categories I can try to list at the top of my head: Neck - 10/10 : I may be a little bit biased but I think the deep c neck is the best neck that Fender has ever come out with. Between this and my standard, this neck just feels so much more pleasant and comfortable to hold. It speaks for itself. The rosewood is extremely smooth and easy to noodle around on. Mine came with this funky 2-tone grain on the wood that tripped me out a little at first but I learned to embrace it. The back of the neck has this super satin smooth finish and it is definitely super smooth, it's an extremely smooth playing guitar. Frets - 9.5/10 : I'm not giving it a 10 because I think Fender should be putting stainless steel frets on these instruments considering the price tag and especially compared to other brands that use them. But I think the Narrow Tall frets with the rolled edges are incredible. It's quite funny hearing people say "I'm going for the performer for the medium jumbo" or "Narrow tall is horrible" , I'm not sure how many people know this, but literally almost all of Fender's Custom Shop Strat's and a lot of the Telecasters, have Narrow Tall frets. $4000-$10,000 guitars and up, and almost every single one I looked at had Narrow Tall frets in the specs. There is obviously a reason why this is a thing, and I'm also sure nobody who gets a custom shop fender is going to be concerned over medium jumbo or narrow tall frets. I have no idea what the difference is between Narrow-Tall and Medium Jumbo if you put 2 in front of me, my Les Paul is Medium Jumbo and my Strat is Narrow Tall and never have I picked up one instrument over the other and went "oh, these frets feel different." Tone - 9/10 : I love the tone that comes out of these V-Mod 2 pickups, it has a very modern stratty sound to it, perfect for modern covers, jazz, some country, a little bit of John Mayer, I do think that some hotter more vintage pickups would have been really cool especially when you consider the implementation of the Narrow-Tall frets to try to give you that Custom Shop vibe. The push-push knobs are cool and there's a few positions I really like that almost sound like an acoustic guitar. Finishes - 10/10 : I think the Pro II line by far had the nicest paint finishes. Miami blue, Surf green, Dark Knight, Mercury Silver, Olympic white, even the roasted pine. The ultra line is great too, I think the Miami blue is more vibrant than the cobra blue, the finishes on the ultra just didn't catch my eye the way I hoped they would. The Texas Tea was in my opinion the nicest finish on the ultras. My 2 favorite finishes in the Pro II line are definitely the Mystic Green and Dark Knight. Reason being because it has the exact same sparkly paint as the ultras that reflect and shine in different lighting. It almost looks like a fancy car paint finish. It's a nicer paint finish than my Les Paul Standard. Versatility - 8/10 : It's definitely versatile, an HSS would be more practical if you're looking for a do-it-all guitar. The SSS version gives that authentic single coil strat sound, and with the coil tapping abilities, opens up for more acoustic sounding tones, muddier overdrive for punk, some really bright funky tones for country too. I use my LP for anything related to gain, so for me it was a no brainer to get the SSS version. The HSS is really good too, I had one before getting a LP and later on getting the SSS, while it may not be as meaty as some other guitars designed for overdrive, the HSS will get the job done. The SSS is everything I would expect from a classic single coil strat, and the coil tapping just opens me up to more tonal possibilities. Body & Weight - 10/10 : Extremely ergonomic guitar, especially when comparing it to a beefy LP. It's extremely light, easier to hold, more comfortable to play in bed, and a lot easier for high fret access especially with the contour in the back to help this. This is what I meant earlier with the Pro II being a mighty match for the ultra, the ultra is extremely fast yes, but the Pro II is also fast. If I would rate the speed out of 10 between both guitars, I'd give the ultra a 9.5/10 and the Pro II a 9.2/10. But if I were to rate the neck's in terms of comfort, I'd give the ultra an 8.5/10 and give the Pro II a 9.5/10 if not a perfect 10. So how I looked at it in the store was where did it differ the most? And it was certainly in comfort, I would rather sacrifice a little bit of speed for a lot more comfort than to sacrifice a lot of comfort for a little bit of speed. I fingerpick quite a lot when I'm not using a pick, and everything from Clapton inspired chords (thumb-work) to John Mayer's funky chord variations, it just feels super comfortable to play. and I can go very long periods without getting tired or cramping. When you factor in all of these amazing features and little touches, this is probably the best value Stratocaster on the market right now. The finish is premium and what you would expect from a high end American Fender instrument, you get unique Narrow Tall frets that actually works very well unlike the cheaper fender models that have it, and that is typically something that would only be found on a Fender Custom Shop. It has almost all of the compliments an ultra would, minus the ability to turn the single coils into humbuckers; but that goes with saying I would just get an HSS or 1 humbucking guitar and 1 single coiled guitar. And the ultra neck is no "improvement" but more of a preference for people who want a super slim fast neck. I think they can totally put both of these guitars at the same price but they won't do it because of marketing. This Pro II is a REALLY big upgraded and refined American Standard, while the ultra is a refined version of the Elite. All in all I am more than pleased with this fine instrument, I think that the competition of the Ultra tends to kick this one into the shadows sometimes, but it's price tag justifies every bit of this instrument. When I brought the ultra home for a week, I personally couldn't bond with it , mainly because it was more of a super-strat than the classic American Standard I always wanted to own. Let me know how your experience with your Fender Stratocaster is, which model you think is the best bang for the buck I would love to hear :) Cheers https://preview.redd.it/tfep1wj5t03b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49c1e7be35641b67ec2697f571201c4b3a94580b submitted by SalernoXbox to fender [link] [comments]
2023.05.30 22:20 GreenUserper Collaborated Project Done Right!!! The Blon X HBB Z300
| OVERALL POINTS Aspects | Points | Tonality | 4.5/5 | Technicalities | 4/5 | Build and Quality | 5/5 | Aesthetic and Feel | 4.5/5 | Overall | 4.5/5 | Review OF The Blon X HBB Z300 https://preview.redd.it/l83v8qcq113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbb883272f4c37ab04600ad35c7f0a549caf15b4 Introduction It is not surprising that most audiophiles have positive opinions of the Blon Company when it comes to their influence on the audiophile community, their influence on high-quality sound at reasonable prices, and especially their infamous Blon BL03 which attracted the attention of many seasoned audiophiles. Blon has released other IEMs, such as the BL05 and BL05s, which have a different signature than their typical V-shape tuning, in contrast to the tuning of the BL03 model. And now, for the first time, they have partnered with Hawaiian Bad Boy, a well-known audiophile reviewer and YouTuber who has recently released another project called the Blon X HBB Z300. Hawaiian Bad Boy is known throughout the audiophile community for his successful collaborative projects. And today I'll be doing a review of the Z300, but first I'd like to clear up a few things. https://preview.redd.it/3066ez1r113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80c39f6076911562c1f95b41f8c411c2250763e9 Disclaimer *I am thankful to HBB himself and the kind staff at Linsoul for setting up this unit for review. The same is true for this evaluation as it has been for all of my evaluations: all of the ideas I've discussed below are wholly my own, original thoughts that haven't been influenced by anyone. If interested, go to this link. *I am not associated with the connection, and I receive no financial assistance from anyone. *For the remainder of the review, I will refer to these IEMs as "Z300." *I am using different Ear-tips for convenience and better versatility. *Finally, I will only evaluate the Z300 based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically. Specification The Z300 is an IEM with a single dynamic driver that employs a 10mm silicone diaphragm and powerful magnets. The faceplate has a design inspired by dragons, and the shells are made of zinc alloy with a surface that is tough 18K gold plated. Despite feeling heavy in the hands, the shells are simple to put in and secure in the ears. There is never any discomfort, not even after extended use. The shells' sturdy construction feels promising. A 4 strand braided high purity cable wire with distinctive 2 pin connectors and a 3.5mm straight termination plug is included in the package. The 2 pin connectors on the cables included with BL03 and BL05 feel identical to this cable's connectors. The cable has a great quality feel and is pleasant to hold. The Z300 Package also includes a blon jute-like storage pouch and two different types of eartips in various sizes. Regarding the technical details, the sensitivity is 115dB, and the impedance is 28 Ohms. The range of the frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz. https://preview.redd.it/9pwkckor113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f117f32521839fd3fc6c21458bbf8953e740062e Sound This is the first time I've heard a tuning like this from Blon; I've heard their BL03, BL05, BL mini, etc., and they are typically sound exciting or bright. The Z300 sounds balanced and has a smooth presentation, in contrast to the Bl03, which has a lot of mid bass and sub bass and seems to have a lot of energy in the upper mid range and lower treble. Basically, even though I was aware that HBB tuned it, Blon's unconventional tuning surprised me. The Tripowin Z300's sound is similar to the Tripowin Piccolo's in terms of perceived performance, with the exception that the Z300 has a less energetic upper midrange and lower treble than the Piccolo. The Z300, in my opinion, is more resolved and tonally superior even after being less energetic because of the balance between the two regions. The treble comes across as nicely expansive and full of good details, the mid range sounds forward and lively, and the bass responds with enough warmth to make up for the natural timbre that permeates the entire mix. Let's learn more about Z300's audio output. https://preview.redd.it/pkgovz2s113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16b139fdaa32639ffafc0d9bfe98eab050336e1b Treble When comparing the Z300's response to other IEMs in this price range, it is impossible to do so fairly. However, I can say that it is smoother than the Kiwi Ears Cadenza, denser than the Tin Hifi C2, more expansive and spacious than the QKZxHBB Khan, and more detailed than the Tripowin Piccolo. The treble is silky and smooth, and the notes' details are more than sufficient. The notes don't distort or become single notes or cause any noticeable or avoidable sibilance because the upper treble has nice extension. The vocals definitely stand out and sound complete, while still maintaining a natural sound throughout. Of course, the instruments sound playful, with good notes that are less sharp and produce lovely details. While Cadenza will likely respond similarly, this one sounds softer and more comforting. The C2 displays more details, but at the expense of note weight and lean note quality. The response fills and sounds more personal because the QKZxKhan is way too energetic. In comparison to the Piccolo's off balance in the lower and upper treble, the Z300 sounds even. To keep the energy balance between the upper and lower treble smooth and consistent, the Z300's lower treble sounds sufficiently energetic. The vocals stand out in the mix while the instruments are audible and distinct. Of course, no one in the area sounds in any way offensive. In conclusion, the treble region is presented in a seamless, comforting, and satisfying manner overall. Mid Range When compared to other IEMs, the midrange sounds forward and musical in the mix, and the transient flow of energy feels constant and intact. Upper midrange and lower treble energy are essentially equal in intensity. In comparison to other IEMs in this price range, I find the response to be more melodious and aesthetically pleasing. Obviously, the Cadenza outperforms every other IEM in terms of tonality, especially in the mid range, but the Z300's response is more precise and nuanced. The C2 and the Khan are either perceived as being more airy and lean or as being overly spirited or forward. Similar to the others, but with a more personal tone, is the Piccolo. The vocals in this rendition sound forward and possess enough energy to come across clean and pleasing. The upper mid range of the Z300 sounds realistic and clear. Instruments, on the other hand, sound more expressive and resist the tendency to sound metallic. The vocals and the instruments sound their best in this region, which maintains the organic timbre. I'd say the mid bass leaks in the lower mid range and by how much determines how dull or clean it can sound. The lower mid range builds the foundation of the natural characteristics of every note in the upper frequencies. Similar to how all other IEMs sound in this area, the bass' influence causes the response to behave differently. The C2 and the khan sound clear, compared to the dense and thick Cadenza and piccolo. The Z300 strikes a better balance between sounding dense and clean; the instruments and vocals sound thick and dense as they should while maintaining clear, easily recognisable notes. The bass notes also appear to be thick and organic, which is how they might actually sound. The mid range is presented overall in a lively, musical, and pleasant manner. Bass To be completely honest, I'd say that the bass hits HBB's target preference perfectly. There is just enough bass to bring out the warmth and organic timbre while still being effective. Because the bass response of the Piccolo is one or two dB less than that of the Z300, the bass is more expansive and explosive than the Piccolo. However, because the Piccolo puts out a lot more impacts and hits, the bass may not feel as full on the Piccolo. However, the Khan's response is more explosive and quick, which some people may find overwhelming. If I were to discuss the control, the C2 would be the best-suited to handle it. Candenza excels in its ability to sound dense and organic while still being enjoyable to listen to. Although the presence of the mid range is really good, the bass on the Z300 is more prominent in the sub bass region. Similar to how the mid bass's slams are impactful and sound straightforward, the sub bass's response is well extended and induces a supple sensation of rumble in the ear canal with hard hitting punches. Sometimes, but usually when listening to bass-heavy tracks, the bass can become boomy. When compared to instruments like Piccolo or Cadenza, the bass is more textured and the note details are good. Even the bass guitar sounds natural with that thick and slamming response, thanks to the impressively realistic vibe that kick drum or toms produce. Overall, the bass response is powerful, punchy, and well-done. Technical Performance Regarding technical performance, the Z300 does face off against other IEMs in this price range, so I consider its capabilities to be higher than those of an average IEM. The imaging is sharp and the stage is wide enough to sound spacious. The notes are really well separated from one another as well. The resolution is good, particularly how expressively the macro details appear, and the speed of resolvability is comparable to other IEMs in this price range. https://preview.redd.it/sqrqwils113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a210fc91eedab695e89d778e847b0f9a76bdd9e0 Soundstage, Sound Imaging & Separation The stage set is effectively organised and constructed, and it is both wide and far. The notes' distant and distinct characteristics make them easy to distinguish, so the separation is really nice. Even though the imaging could be sharper, I still think it is better than the Piccolo and the Khan and can bring clarity to the mix. Speed & Resolution The resolution is also good, making it simple to approach macro details while finding enough interest in the micro details. Even though the attack and decay of notes could have been resolved more quickly, they are on par with other IEMs. Sound Impressions Sources Tempotec V6 - The response of the Z300 sounds more clear and detailed when coupled with the V6. The mid range sounds forward and balanced, while the treble is more exuberant and full of good details. Because the bass is well-controlled and doesn't overpower the other tones, it sounds lively and crisp. I really like the pairing with the V6 because, aside from the imaging being sharper and the stage being larger, the technical performance feels the same. https://preview.redd.it/4xj61kct113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48eb0d0589cb24796249835fe7c22b8150be2327 iFi Hipdac - Because of the aggressive forwardness of the vocals and the instruments' attempts to respond more sharply, the treble becomes reserved and slightly dull when paired with the Hipdac, while the midrange completely takes over as the mix's main star. In the mix, the bass is given more prominence, and the mid-bass response may even increase. Except for the stage becoming a little bit smaller, I didn't notice any changes to the technical performance. Although this pairing provided a fun and exciting response, I still prefer V6 pairing to the Hipdac. https://preview.redd.it/fcncpdlt113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20545437d1f8677b2ef3fa1a36bad6b1f3f3d3b5 Megatron - I noticed that the response from the pairing with Megatron was becoming more transparent and lucid as I listened to it. While the bass response became more sub bass obsessed, the details and energy in the treble and mid range became more sophisticated. The stage got a little bit narrower while the imaging and resolution got better. The way the notes were divided up still felt the same. The technical performance felt the same aside from that. The treble region has sibilance, but it is rarely audible. I like the details, but I'd still rather pair the Z300 with the V6 because the transparent response lowers the tonality and makes the IEM sound generic. Their price point is reasonable, their build quality is promising, their sound is excellent for the money, and their tuning is excellent, with a great balance between the bass and higher frequencies. I would still say that these perform better than they are priced, even with my slight bias in favour of the tuning because it perfectly matches my preferences. So, yes, I wholeheartedly advise anyone who appreciates a balanced sound signature and a sound that sounds more natural than detailed and bright to invest in the Blon X HBB Z300. https://preview.redd.it/uufsr59u113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b115f3418d6a9ce80a08061c913e7183130a8df6 submitted by GreenUserper to headphones [link] [comments] |
2023.05.30 22:16 Lucylu94 Organized recycling station?
I’m a mom that lives in a small town, so almost everything I buy comes in packages. Our recycling only comes every other week and I swear we have like 30 boxes to recycle every time they come. I haaaaaaaate the boxes every where and saw this on Pinterest. It’s a cool idea, but I’d love for it to look more ~aesthetic.~ Also would love not to have to build it as I do not have the time or knowledge on how to. Anyone know of product I could just buy? If you do have something you built that looks really nice, I’d love to see it too. submitted by Lucylu94 to OrganizationPorn [link] [comments]
2023.05.30 22:13 Vethalos Is there a future for physical existence that isn't reactionary?
I just read an essay that the idea that may define now and the near future, in term of culture, is the complete decoupling of physical space from abstract/conceptual space.
Some may say it is a bad thing, and a sign of alienation facilitated by declining societal prospects and the culture where everything could be marketed, sold and consumed, but some say that it is the only view of the future that we have now that is exciting and not haunted by the past, like how 20th century modernity was filled with competing ideas. It is the culture where our primary place of meaning is becoming more digital - identities are defined by labels and aesthetics. The physical body is simply a vessel to be changed and altered to fit within the abstract ideals of the mind, and pose no inherent meaning. The artificiality is to be celebrated and not feared as it is the nature of the world integrated to the digital space.
But of course, there can't be only one idea. In some way, I haven't been a fan of this digital gnosticism as the future. However, I understand that we cannot return to the past either. The technologies we made are here to stay, we'll be online in some way in some way. Most proponents of physical spaces are usually reactionaries, with the desire to return to the traditionalist past, and usually are ineffective because the material condition now can't give rise to something as exact as the past. So we have to go forward, but I can believe that the path is forked.
Is there a place for an idea where the physicality matter without being reactionary? Can the ietas about not identifying with specific labels get around in these days and age? And I'm not even talking about wokeness even, It's more about creating a rigidly defined conceptual identity to live out rather leaving it unclear and understated, that's something right wings people are subjected too.
I've got some ideas but it's probably too regarded, I want to hear people here first.

2023.05.30 21:49 Unhappy-Tip-5545 Case model Le Soleil Royal. 7 years of hard work!
My father finally finished this piece of art! Hull model of the legendary French ship 1669-1692 Le Soleil Royal, made on a scale of 1:75 from precious woods: pear, walnut, hornbeam, amaranth, padouk. In his free evenings, he was practically engaged in jewelry work. It took a little over 7 years! The history of the ship is quite interesting, about it in future posts in the series, if the topic finds its readers. Looking at the smallest details like rope pulleys, door hinges, decorations on (by himself) cast tools, or an incredible number of nails that fasten deck boards and planks (and this is not a drawing or something like that - these are really carnations!), You can take a very long time . And about every detail, the father can tell in detail what it is and why - for 7 years of evenings spent at the table, he studied this subject very well. The standard for the appearance of this ship is now taken as a model made 150 years after the death of the original, stored in the Maritime Museum in Paris. From the author: "Indetailed descriptions of the ship, supply and acquisition registers have been preserved. But neither paintings nor engravings with a detailed depiction of the appearance of the ship, made by his contemporaries, have been found. The original "technical documentation" of this ship from the time of Louis XIV, as I understand it, has not been preserved either. There are only sketches for the design of this future legend of the French fleet proposed by the artist Jean Berin. The sketches were commissioned by Jean-Baptiste Colbert, head of government at the time. How accurately Beren's idea was embodied "in a tree" on a real ship is a question. An important point. In 1688, the ship underwent a major overhaul, strengthened its armament and changed its appearance. My model in no way claims to be a reliable copy of the real one." But in my opinion, historical accuracy is excellent, but not the most important thing in this model. In the last photo, the master himself with his creation. Ask your questions and I will gladly pass them on to my father to answer them. Thank you for your attention! submitted by Unhappy-Tip-5545 to u/Unhappy-Tip-5545 [link] [comments]
2023.05.30 21:44 Kammy6707 What to do with this fireplace/brick wall?
I need some help with this wall in our family room - I keep going back and forth. It is all brick with the fireplace in the center and a paneled area above the fireplace (70s era house). We just moved in (so excuse the mess!)and I have been brainstorming ideas but the non-bricked area above the fireplace is throwing me off. I plan on replacing the red carpet with something more grey/tan and doing dark blue walls and I’m thinking a green couch. Also will update the fireplace screen and replace the drop ceiling. Do I whitewash all the brick and paint the paneled area dark blue to match walls? Do I paint the entire center a darker color and leave the brick walls on the side to help define the fireplace? Or whitewash the walls with the darker fireplace? submitted by Kammy6707 to HomeDecorating [link] [comments]
2023.05.30 21:34 belcorvo Gentle Guidance Experience and Reflection
I had my Gentle Guidance with Rita yesterday, which was very eye-opening for me. Let me start by saying Rita is the nicest human being on the planet. She takes the time to listen and answer with intent. She knows her words have power so she is very deliberate with her responses, which is really impressive for a 30 minute call. If you're on the fence about getting the GG I say do it no matter the stage of your personal style journey you're in. If you are unfamiliar with the process, before the GG you fill out a form with some questions. She starts the GG by asking more questions, and then she will address any concerns you have, then tell you your key, the archetypes she thinks you'll get the most support from, and supporting keywords. I'm giving my interpretation of her advice so please feel to ask questions if something doesn't make sense.
Okay let's get into it!
We first talked about my current spiral around needing cohesion in my personal style. She was blunt with me and said that I'm a multi-dimensional person and because I use the Amethyst Key I should dress for the Raven (which is my name, hi there lol) in the moment. I should be seeking more variety and not less. I should be changing and exploring. She recommended doing a character design exercise to understand Raven as the persona and then use my personal style as a lens to be perceived. I'm currently working on that exercise and loving it! It's like creating a Dungeons and Dragons character but that character is me!
She agreed with my placement of Left Up/Amethyst. She placed me more up than I ever considered, but when we got into it I definitely saw it. I loved the way she explained the archetypes so I wanted to share. She explained them as friends that you go to for advice. You wouldn't go to your friend for career advice if they aren't in the field you want to be in, right? Same for the archetypes. They aren't who you are, but a guide to help you. They are a fictional person with the same needs, wants, desires as you. Ask them for advice, and see what germinates. She recommended I look at Enchantress, Siren, and Lady Heretic as a blend but keep them separate. She did say that having three archetypes is not common but I could use the support of each one to help with different aspects of my process and my personal style.
Enchantress - She really wants me to lean into identifying what I need to express to the world, and do it without a specific aesthetic. Cohesion is a part of the process because I define the story, but isn't the intention. The enchantress needs to be high maintenance and I should lean into the effort and know that I need the additional effort to execute my vision. I should also think creatively while staying true to my vision but not get too nitpicky. Let the randomness flow through!
Lady Heretic - She wants me to use the Lady Heretic to provide that "step on people" energy that I definitely mentioned during our session. I want to be the most stylish person in the room and feel stylistically superior, a form of social dominance (which isn't as bad as it sounds). I shouldn't be afraid that I'm the "most dressed-up" person in the room. I actually thrive off of that. I should use the Lady Heretic to assert myself more and use her to learn how to take up more space. Flex on 'em!
Siren - Very similar points to the Enchantress, but with the Siren she wants me to identify my personal red flags for nitpicking. Would I nitpick a friend's outfit to the extent I criticize my own looks? Give myself grace and space to grow with this medium. I base a lot of my "success" on receiving praise from the outside. Turns out I don't need that! I'm creating a reaction, and I don't need to make anyone but myself happy about what I'm wearing. Let's unsettle them. Let's make them uncomfortable, it's okay! I also need to shift the control from external acknowledgment to my own. Whether this is a large art piece or just a sketch, I am in control. I need to shift the energy to get more of what I need from my personal style.
She also wants me to keep exploring. I'm in the Blossom and Harvest phase and just need to allow myself to be and enjoy the fruits of my labor!
Rita then gave me the style keywords she thinks relate to me the most. The first were Sensual and Dramatic with a touch of glamour. Sensual was no big surprise. She described it in a way I really love where she sees that framing the body, hinting at the body is really where sensual hits home for me. Dramatic was a little surprise just because I haven't put too much time into exploring drama. I do love the performative nature of my style so I'm excited to get into it more. She framed sensual as soft while dramatic is hard, and that's how I should look at getting that juxtaposition across my looks. She also said that I'm naturally dramatic because of the tattoos, so sensual is the home base for me to add softness and create that contrast.
The other keywords are Gaia/Elemental and Intimidating which I'm OBSESSED with. We at first explored elemental but she really liked Gaia as my essence. She changes with the seasons and she doesn't care what anyone thinks. Others do not affect the seasons changing, they just change. I loved that. She also loved intimidating here because that is Gaia. She is power. You should be intimidated by the elements and raw energy. Expect some moodboards coming soon!
I turned to this community yesterday for ideas on what to call the combination of my 3 archetypes. I want to make the flair something others will recognize, but for myself I decided to come up with my own archetype based on the character design I created. I want to combine the whimsy and magic of the enchantress, the allure of the siren, and the rebellious nature of the lady heretic with the idea of being
a stellium in astrology.
The name I came up with was
"the Solstice Supreme." "The Solstice Supreme" conveys a sense of power and authority, suggesting a figure who holds a position of utmost significance during the solstice, a time of celestial transition and cosmic energy.
"Solstice Supreme" represents a character who wields unparalleled enchanting abilities, possesses an irresistible and seductive aura like a siren, and challenges established norms and authority like a lady heretic. Solstice embodies the magic and allure of the enchantress, the captivating and seductive nature of the siren, and the rebellious and heretical tendencies of the lady heretic. This archetype suggests a character who holds celestial wisdom, harnesses the power of cosmic forces, and wields them to navigate and shape their own destiny.
The addition of "Supreme" emphasizes the character's elevated status and extraordinary capabilities within the context of the enchantress, siren, and lady heretic archetypes. It suggests a figure who is revered, feared, or respected for their powers and their ability to shape the course of events. Ultimately, "Solstice Supreme" evokes a sense of celestial grandeur, dominance, and awe-inspiring presence.
I chose "Solstice" to represent the magic of change and transformation. "Supreme" gives me that "step on me" vibe. Together I'm envisioning this alluring powerful force of nature. It just fit so well with how my mind chooses outfits and the feelings I get when I complete a look that I love.
The overall experience was so great! I will definitely work with Rita more in the future. She gave me so much in such a short amount of time and I'm excited to see where it takes me! Let me know if you have any questions around my experience.

2023.05.30 21:34 RamboBambiBambo [TotK] Anyone else wonder what we might see as DLC equipment options?
So LoZ: TotK is going to have DLC. And going off of how DLC was in BotW, I cannot help but wonder what new equipment items we may see added to the roster for TotK's gear in the form of new weapons, bows, shields, and armor that may be bundled into any of the DLC packs coming around.
So I cannot help but theorize and predict that we may get any of the following -
ARMOR SETS - - Skyloftian Attire - Considering the fact we may get a DLC that adds more islands, I think it would be fitting to allow for Link to acquire clothing and a new hairstyle option as rewards; replicating Link's appearance from the opening act of Skyward Sword.
- Ordonian Shepherd - Sticking to the idea of having Link in TotK replicate the look of what we once wore in the opening act of a previous game, I think it would be fitting to allow us to acquire the outfit worn by Link in the opening act of Twilight Princess. Especially since it will expose Link's right arm that is now adorned with Zonai accessories.
- Zora Armor of Twilight - As an alternative outfit choice for the Zora Armor you can already acquire in-game, the Zora Armor of Twilight Princess would be an addition to simply allow you to replicate Link's appearance in Twilight Princess.
- Magic Armor - The Magic Armor from Twilight Princess could be added to the game. Though most likely it would simply be an alternative outfit style while replicating the same effect as the Mystic Armor, I personally believe it could be recontextualized as a suit of armor worn by King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule during his younger years as a mere prince of the realm before his time to reign.
- Hero's Shade Armor - Continuing the trend of Twilight Princess inspired attire, I believe that the armor worn by the late Hero of Time in his final days would make for a nice set of armor to replicate the effects of the Barbarian Armor set. To make it interesting, I would personally add a visual flair to the armor by having Link's flesh look normal by day; but when night falls, his exposed flesh becomes semi-translucent, revealling his bones beneath with a single eye-socket glowing red to fully pull off the Hero's Shade look.
- Dark Mage's Robes - Moving to more toon aesthetics, I believe that it would be interesting to provide Link with the ability to mimic Vaati's appearance from The Minish Cap. What with BotW/TotK being more cell-shaded, it would be rather fitting to allow for us to see Vaati's likeness in more graphical detail. Plus as a bonus I think it should receive the gloom-resistant effect.
- Royal Engineer Uniform - Similarly, I think it would be fitting to have the outfit worn by Link in Spirit Tracks to be available in TotK as a collectible set. If I were to apply a bonus attribute to the set, it would be Energy Cell Efficiency; thus wearing the full set would allow you to have a 20% less drain on your Energy Cells when using Zonai Devices.
- Cap/Tunic/Trousers of the Warrior - Honestly, I was surprised that this set was not available in the base game; seeing as the outfit was available in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. But I can totally see Nintendo adding it in as a new collectible set to acquire while scrounging through The Depths.
- Bunny Hood - Tired of eating Rushroom Skewers and Speed Potions? Well, wearing the Bunny Hood will provide you with the same effect; allowing you to jog and run faster; though climbing speed is still normal.
- Hawkeye Mask - Some Bows, such as the Gerudo Bow, will zoom in whenever you take aim. If Nintendo were to add this mask as a DLC item, this would be how to replicate that effect for all bows in the game.
- Pegasus Boots - No, I don't think a speed boost would be proper to apply to these boots. Instead, I would have it be so that wearing the boots has stamina drain reduced by 20% while sprinting. Combined with the Bunny Hood, you can most certainly travel fast and far on foot.
- Iron Boots - Tired of being knocked around by heavy attacks from large enemies? Don't want Horriblins with bouncy mushroom sticks to make you launch across the cave? Well, find and equip the iron boots to make you move around a little slower but also never be launched by a heavy attack. Just be ready to take the hit.
- Travelling Swordsman - Though most Super Smash Bros Ultimate players don't like the Mii BrawleGunneSwordfighter characters, we can all admit that the default outfit for Mii Swordfighter is actually pretty well made. I could easily see Nintendo add it in as a reference set of shirt and pants; to be paired with the Travelers weapons arrangement.
WEAPONS - - Wooden Sword - I think as a fun silent addition, Nintendo should add the Wooden Sword from Twilight Princess as an item. An uncommon drop from the Meantree enemies, so instead of them dropping an effectively useless tree-branch; they drop a more sturdy wooden sword to possibly make use of.
- Ordon Sword - The sword that the Hero of Twilight wielded during his adventure's earliest miles. A fitting piece to help fully replicate the look of Link from the Twilight Princess game when paired with the Cap, Tunic, and Trousers of Twilight.
- Sword of the Knave - At the start of Hyrule Warriors, Link was but a young Knave on his way to be a proper Knight. So it would be fitting to rename the Knight's Sword as such. However in the hands of someone like Link, this blade's power would surpass the likes of a Knight's Sword from BotW/TotK.
- Blade of the Shade - Should the Hero's Shade armor items be added to the game, it would only be fitting to include the Hero's Shade sword to help complete the look.
- Gilded Sword - The fully upgraded Kokiri Sword version 4.0! I think it would be fitting to have to acquire this sword in the Lost Woods, implying that the Hero of Time had returned the blade to the Lost Woods after his adventure in Termina.
- Great Fairy's Claymore - Perhaps they might add in a quest for Link to perform for each of the Great Fairies, allowing you to be rewarded with the gift of the Great Fairy's Claymore? That or simply make us find it in the overworld.
- Kholint Sword - Seeing as Toy Link has been given some representation as a headpiece you can acquire, I think it would only be fitting to allow for you to obtain the ultimate sword from Link's Awakening as an item you can acquire.
- Blade of Hurricanes - The sword that the Hero of Winds used when not in possession of the Master Sword. What makes this blade unique? Well, I propose that if you were to charge up your spin-attack to the third level of power buildup; Link will then unleash a Hurricane Spin Attack! Great for when you are surrounded by enemies or just farming for items that you can harvest by cutting down grass in a field.
- White Sword - Though it has rarely made an appearance, I believe the addition of the White Sword would be fitting. Fun fact, if you attach a star fragment to an item; you will launch beams of light into the distance. So if the White Sword were to be added to the game, I think it would be best to have it simply not be a weapon you can throw away. Make it akin to the Master Sword where attempting to toss the sword will instead send out a beam. However in the White Sword's case, it will cast a triad of light sources into the distance. A good tool for when in the depths and trying to conserve Brightbulbs.
- Magical Sword - Like the White Sword, this sword should also be unable to be thrown. Instead, attempting to throw the sword should unleash an elemental attack. But with the caveat of it being a random type of element. Are we casting flames, lightning, or ice against our opponent?
- Phantom Sword - I think the addition of the Phantom Sword would be a nice addition to the game's roster of legendary weapons. But how to make it unique? Well it could be complicated to code, but I think that if Link were to try to toss the blade while at full health; it should launch a beam of light upon the enemy. Whatever enemy gets hit by the beam of light will replicate the Time Stop + ability from BotW so the enemy is frozen for a free hit or two.
- Lokomo Sword - The addition of the Lokomo Sword would make for a nice item to include in the weapons roster. But how to make it unique? Simple. If Link attempts to use the Fusion ability with this weapon and attempts to attach Zonai Charges or even Large Zonai Charges, the blade will be mended of damage. Thus the sword can be healed without the need of an Octorok.
- Four Sword - Now I know what you are thinking and NO. This sword will not make three other companion Links running around as AI companions. We already have our Vows with the Sages providing that. Instead I offer an alternative. Imagine a visual effect like what happens in Super Mario Galaxy when you pick up an Invincibility power up. Whenever you wield the Four Sword, you will instead have three shadows following very closely behind you; one red, one blue, and one purple. Whenever you swing the Four Sword, these copies follow your every motion and if the hit lands; they deal the same damage as you. So while the Four Sword would be 15 damage power, it is actually most likely 15x4 if all three of these copy Link's follow your motion and land their hits; meaning that if all 4 hits land you just dealt 60 damage with one button press. However, the enemy could fall out of range due to the slight knockback that weapons feature in the game; so you may end up missing your copy-cat hits. At least this is how I would have the Four Sword act in the game.
- Dominion Mace - Though this is more of a joke item. I figure that after eons, the Dominion Rod of Twilight Princess would be both depleted of power and all history regarding the relic has been lost to those who do not peruse the Royal Library. As a result, Link finds the Dominion Rod and deems it to be a well-made mace.
- Flameblade
- Flamespear
- Great Flameblade
- Frostblade
- Frostspear
- Great Frostblade
- Thunderblade
- Thunderspear
- Great Thunderblade
- So yes, these weapons were sadly removed as BotW transitioned into TotK. And yes, you can replicate them by way of elemental Lizalfos Horns. HOWEVER; I think there is a missed opporitunity here. Zonai attachments to Zoanite weapons receive a bonus to their attack power. I believe that these elemental weapons should return to the game and if affixed with the proper attachment (Flameblade receives Flame Lizalfos Horn attachment for example), it should have a similar enhancing effect to both the weapon's damage and elemental output.
BOWS - - Sacred Bow - The final upgraded version of Skyward Sword Link's bow. I suspect that we will most likely see a DLC give us more islands in the sky to explore. So it would be fitting to be able to find this bow nested in a chest up high in the skies above Hyrule.
- Legendary Crossbow - It would be rather unique to have the ability to use Link's Crossbow from Link's Crossbow Training as a weapon. I personally would have it replicate the Duplex Bow to shoot two arrows for the price of one.
SHIELDS - - Deku Shield - If any shield should be added in a DLC as a quest reward, it should be the iconic Kokiri Shield from Ocarina of Time. Simply have it be a reward given by the Deku Tree for Link running an errand for him, a humble and sentimental reward.
- Ordon Shield - To go with the Ordon Sword, I think that the Ordon Shield should also be added to the game as a legacy item; thus allowing us to replicate the Hero of Twilight look even further.
- Mirror Shield - Though you can replicate this shield's effect thanks to the Zonai Mirrors you can fuse with a shield, it would be nice to have a Mirror Shield from a previous game as a legacy item. Question is, which one? There are like 6 designs we have had in the history of Zelda.
- Engineer's Shield - The shield that Link used in Spirit Tracks at the start of his adventure.
- Shield of Antiquity - Simply put, have it be an alternative version of the Hero's Shield that used to be dropped from the Wind Waker Amiibo. I personally would have it be an item that could be found in a whirlpool cave in the waters of the Necluda Sea added in with a DLC.
- Wooden Shield / Banded Shield / Braced Shield - I honestly find it strange that these weren't added as an homage to Skyward Sword as shields that could be found both in the islands in the sky and as items scattered around fallen island debris. If any DLC shields should be added, I think the Skyward Sword wooden shields would make for a nice addition to the roster; especially since they would level up alongside the player in the save file. So as they progress further in the game, they can find Banded and finally the Braced Shields.
- Iron Shield / Reinforced Shield / Fortified Shield - Ditto but with the Skyward Sword Iron Shield lineup of upgrades. Stronger than the Wooden Shield counterpart but susceptible to lightning.
- Sacred Shield / Divine Shield / Goddess Shield - Ditto. However, unlike with this lineup of shields from Skyward Sword where they mended themselves over time; I think that it would be fitting to have these shields only have a single property from that game carry over to TotK. When the shield is raised against Stal enemies (with the exception of the Stalnox), it will make them cower away from you and keep their distance. An especially useful item to have on hand when roaming around at night or exploring the depths wanting to be undisturbed by the annoying bones.
- Shade's Guard - Again, if Nintendo were to add in the Hero's Shade armor set; it would only be fitting to add in the shield used by the Hero's Shade in Twilight Princess as a bonus to complete the look.
- Shield of the Knave - The default shield from Hyrule Warriors would make for a descent addition. Especially if players are wanting to replicate the Hyrule Warriors' depiction of Link if Nintendo were to add in the outfit as well.
- Shield of Light - If Nintendo were to add in the White Sword as depicted in Hryule Warriors, I think it would be fitting to have it also be included the shield that Link used when making use of that sword. Have the bonus attribute that whenever you raise the shield, it shines light upon whatever is in front of you; allowing you to illuminate the darkness of the Depths and some caves with ease.
- Shield of Magic - Ditto. However, I believe that this shield should have the bonus effect of actually being able to heal itself. Should the player successfully deflect a magic attack with this shield equipped, it will mend some of its damaged health-pool by 10%; allowing you to fix the shield by simply fighting an elemental enemy.
And there you have it.
Just figured I would share my expectations of what we could see as DLC legacy items coming to Tears of the Kingdom in the coming year and how I would have some of them provide a bonus effect.
Thoughts anyone?

2023.05.30 21:18 jameskitchener Mystery damage to Car Bonnet
My cars bonnet looked perfect when I first purchased about 3 years ago. However recently the bonnet has suddenly become completely dull and the paint looks like it has worn down completely. I have no idea what has caused this, weather its been damaged during a car wash or just naturally worn down. If anyone has seen this before and what the best cause of action is please let me know. I have already tried to polish/compound it however it hasn’t done anything. submitted by jameskitchener to CarTalkUK [link] [comments]
