2023.06.02 00:47 Ihavethecoolestdog Where to get dog nails trimmed

Looking for recommendations where to take my large 130lb dog to get his nails clipped. He has black nails and bad anxiety from bad experiences from a local vet.
I’ve tried taking him to Petsmart and every time they send him back without doing it because he’s too anxious and he won’t let me near them either. Whether he likes it or not they need to get done.
Any recommendations are appreciated!

2023.06.02 00:46 richardvirginia Need help getting helper meds (Gabapentin)

I have been taking tia Sodium for about 4 years now. At this point, it has ballooned into a 5gpd habit. Skip to the last paragraph for the important part.
There are some strange things to note. I sleep a solid 8 hours, and sometimes I wake up without being in withdrawal, 9.5 hours after my last dose. But no matter when or how much I dose after waking, full blown withdrawal in 3 hours at best. I also have seen a recent return of my sexual function, which is strange for reasons I don't have to explain on this subreddit. I'm able to take half of my regular dose without so much as discomfort. I also experience nothing from taking it. In fact, I feel worse on the stuff than I do in the earliest stages of withdrawal.
My plan is to taper myself down back to the sub 100mg per dose range, but I borderline have PTSD from the times I was forced to go cold turkey for two or three days at a time. When I do get withdrawal, it's absolutely brutal: A bone-chilling coldness despite being drenched in sweat, full body restlessness, a racing heart, a constant rush of unpleasant emotions, and a total lack of sleep for 72 hrs. Plus, horrible body odor, extreme weakness, constant shakiness, and an inability to keep food down.
Kratom doesn't help, benzos and weed barely touch it. I don't want to be stuck on methadone or suboxone for the rest of the foreseeable future, and if I'm quitting the stuff, I won't be able to work to afford care anyway. I'm need to rapid taper and then cold turkey this. It feels like the only realistic option.
The important part: Gabapentin is the only thing I've tried that actually helps. It near-totally resolves my symptoms in relatively small amounts. I could actually kick tia if I could get enough to buckle down for 4 days. The problem, however, is that I'm not able to get it in the state of Virginia. An actual doctor at urgent care told me they're not licensed to prescribe controlled substances for withdrawal (and they don't even know what tia is), telehealth won't prescribe gabapentin in virginia, psychiatrists refer me to addiction centers, and every addiction center in my area only seem to give methadone, suboxone, naloxone, and benzos for opiates. Technically, there aren't even established guidelines for treating tia addiction here. Not to mention, my lack of healthcare would make rehab an absolute pain to pay for.
How can I get my hands on Gabapentin in Virginia? I feel like I've tried everything to get it, and at this point, I'm seriously losing steam. I want out, but no one seems to have keys for the damn door. Any help, tips, anything?

2023.06.02 00:46 Chance-Equivalent-38 6th UW pick..

6th UW pick..
So I've finally saved up enough stones to just take a peek at what my next choices are because I was hoping CF was going to be one of them. Well, it's not and I'm not sure what's the better investment here. I'm nowhere near a GC build as I'm early mid game I'd say. I know some of my other UW need some love but I was hoping to at least start CF labs while I sink stones into the rest. I place ~18th in champion and I know CF is the way to go. I wouldn't mind PS stun but I'm thinking I put the stones I have into my current setup. I know my 3 choices are critical to late game but the ROI is my main concern. Any late gamers want to give me some insight?

2023.06.02 00:46 Ultim8_Lifeform Respect Clint Barton, Hawkeye! (Marvel Cinematic Universe)

Hawkeye

"Clint. You should not be here."
"Really? I retire for, what, five minutes and it all goes to shit."
Clint Barton worked as one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top agents for a number of years under the codename Hawkeye, being put on various assignments from keeping an eye on notable items like Mjolnir and the Tesseract to the mysterious Budapest mission where he recruit Natasha Romanov to S.H.I.E.L.D.. These experiences led to him becoming a founding member of the Avengers despite his own claims of just being a regular guy with a bow. Hawkeye worked with the Avengers for several years, from Ultron's attack to the superhero civil war that saw the group falling apart at the seams. However, his life as he knew it was snatched away after the invasion of Thanos, which saw 50% of all life in the universe being erased including Hawkeye's entire family. Hawkeye took up the alias of Ronin, a vigilante that roamed the globe in a vengeful rampage to kill the many criminals that had survived Thanos' snap. He eventually rejoined the Avengers after they discovered a way to bring back everyone that had been erased, but the guilt from what he had done as a result of his grief still weighed on him even after his family had been brought back. It wasn't until he met his future protégé Kate Bishop that Clint's faith in himself and his efforts as a superhero were restored.

2023.06.02 00:45 Waste-Fail8014 TROUBLE with AXS

Hey everyone. Driving from Canada all the way to Cleveland to see Zach.
I have been having such a horrible time with AXS. I've had tickets in my cart nearly 40 times in the past week. I have been refreshing at least once an hour when I'm not stuck on "Just a sec! Please wait while we find available inventory" I'm at the last step to check out and it tells me my credit card is invalid. Ive tried Visa, debit, MasterCard, and Amex. Does anyone have any ideas?

2023.06.02 00:45 skisky1989 Reseller and Shipping hell

I've been waiting for my Zenfone 9 for nearly a week, I ordered it from Mobile Advanced who uses FedEx to ship the phone.... Fedex keeps changing the delivery day, time, and won't let me schedule a delivery time. Nor will they allow me to pick up the package at the FedEx store. I've had Mobile Advanced on the horn, they will not allow the package to be signed for anywhere other than my address. This is infuriating... I (among many many people) work 7am-4pm. Why would they expect me to be home for a package between 1000am and 2pm?
Where else can I buy a NA Zenfone 9? I'm seen people struggle to receive the NA version of the phone.
TLDR; Don't buy from Mobile Advanced or allow FedEx to be your package carrier.

2023.06.02 00:45 mvis_thma Luminar Technologies - TD Cowen 51st Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference

Tom Fenimore was interviewed by Josh from TD Cowen today. Here is a synopsis and a bit of my analysis at the bottom.
https://wsw.com/webcast/cowen138/laz2035800
Josh: Volvo, SAIC, Polestar are ramping nearer term. The push back on LiDAR is that it has always been too expensive. How are the OEMs trying to monetize the cost?
Tom: It all comes down to the value you get. The Luminar sensor is around $1000. There are 2 primary benefits. 1) Volvo said they expect to reduce severe collisions by 20% (Luminar thinks that is a conservative estimate). 2) Luminar is the best long-range LiDAR in the industry. It can see 250M, which provides 7 seconds of reaction time, which is needed to achieve a safe stop or take some other maneuvers. This enables "highway autonomy", which is hands off and eyes off. Luminar believes that full Level 5 (hands off, eyes off everywhere) is a very difficult problem to solve. This may only be achieved at end of decade at best. Highway autonomy, however, is achievable. $1000 is not the cheapest device to put on a vehicle, but in order for highway autonomy to be enabled, the car must have a LiDAR that provides 250M of visibility. This will enable the OEM to upsell the consumer to this capability.
Josh: Is the goal for the OEMs to generate subscription revenue for "highway autonomy".
Tom: SAIC R7 and Volvo are marketing the power of the LiDAR, for better safety and highway autonomy. Today, the auto industry is in a big pivot to EVs. These buyers are tech savvy. The LiDAR is a differentiator in this space. LiDAR and it benefits provides a great marketing message for the OEMs in the crowded EV space.
Josh: Talk about your relationship with the compute players: Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Mobileye.
Tom: Some OEMs have their in-house software arms (for example Volvo has Zenseact). Mercedes Benz is using Nvidia to take the lead on certain parts of the software. Luminar is flexible to work with either model. Luminar is designed to work with the compute players. For example, Luminar is on the reference platform (Hyperion) from Nvidia. It doesn't guarantee the OEM will choose Luminar, but it makes it Luminar's business to lose.
Josh: What is the business model for the software platform. You have made more investments than your peers for example in things like pro-active safety and highway autonomy.
Tom: Yes, safety, highway autonomy, and 3D mapping. Luminar believes there will be big opportunities on the software for the medium and long term. In the near term, it is the perception software which is the object identification and object tracking - this is the output of the perception software. Luminar is developing the right way to integrate the LiDAR (pro-active safety) information into the other sensor modalities (camera, radar). They have built a product (they call pro-active safety) to share with the OEMs to show what the art of the possible is. The OEMs are very good at taking camera-based output and developing the algorithms around that. The LiDAR point cloud is a different sensor modality. Luminar is helping the OEMs to integrate that. Ultimately, they want to demonstrate to the OEM what a LiDAR can do when you put it on a vehicle. They are focused on perception software today. Longer term proactive safety, highway autonomy, and 3D mapping will be separate revenue streams.
Josh: What is the goal and status of the insurance angle? It was surprising to hear this at Luminar Day.
Tom: It facilitates the monetization of the safety improvement. If cars crash less, the cost to insure the vehicle will come down. The legacy insurance companies wanted to see years of data until they would value the LiDAR appropriately. Luminar wanted to move faster than this. This is why Luminar took the lead to develop the insurance business.
Josh: How does the partnership with Swiss Re work?
Tom: Luminar recognizes they are not experts in insurance. Swiss Re plays the expert role. Luminar wants to go through the OEM partners to do this together. Many OEMs are looking to build out their own insurance business. Luminar is willing to give the insurance money to the OEM, but of course the OEM will need the LiDAR to make the insurance product work.
Audience Member: Where does the Luminar LiDAR stand with regard to navigating bad weather?
Tom: Bad weather can mean anything from fog, to blizzard, to rain. Luminar operates at a wavelength of 1550nm. Tom talked about many other LiDAR companies operating at 905nm and how that wavelength is limited by the amount of power that can be applied due to eye safety issues. Luminar can put more power through the 1550nm laser to effectively "power through" fog or a blizzard. However, there will be some limitations to this. The other aspect is how to keep the LiDAR clean. Since the Luminar sensor is designed to be placed "high up" on the vehicle it is easier to keep clean vs. a LiDAR sensor that is placed down lower in the bumper.
Josh: How should we look at the competitive landscape with other LiDAR players and also including imaging radar companies?
Tom: 1) Tom does not know how many LiDAR companies will exist 10 years from now. But there will be less than today. There will be a day of reckoning over the next 12 to 18 months for some of the LiDAR companies. Again, there will be less companies 10 years from now, don't know how many, but Luminar will be one of them. 2) It all comes down to what you want the LiDAR to do. It is not the cheapest thing to put on the car ($1000). If an OEM is only focused on an ADAS system today with only incremental improvements he is not sure if buying a LiDAR for that purpose is worth it. Could an imaging radar system provide that kind of incremental benefit, perhaps yes.
Josh: Luminar issued guidance for doubling revenue this year. This was before Volvo announced a delay in the EX90 rollout. How are you able to maintain revenue guidance for this year.
Tom: We built a conservative model. Despite the Volvo delay, we are still planning for increased sensor sales (vs. last year). Their new factory is up and running. Other programs and other customers (not in the automotive space) will also grow. They have healthy NRE revenue. LSI (Components) subsidiary is growing (however the revenue here will actually be for next year vs. this year).
Josh: What are some of the customer assumptions for the doubling of revenue through 2025 and 2026.
Tom: Phase 1: Over next 12 months, Volvo and Polestar will begin shipping and they will continue with SAIC and some other customers that will build up. Phase 2: Mecedes and Nissan will come along in the middle part of the decade. The plan would be to reach a 100,000+ rate sometime next year (driven by the Volvo launch). The million-unit rate would be achieved in 2026 or 2027. Of the million-unit mark over 75% has already been booked. The remainder will be achieved via existing customers by expanding to additional vehicle lines.
Josh: What does "booked today" mean?
Tom: For those in the automotive industry, it means they have been officially awarded the vehicle program, they have an agreement in place with the customer, they have a rough sense of timing. The risk is how many vehicles will the OEM sell. Example: Volvo - Luminar will be on every EX90. What is unknown is how many EX90s will Volvo sell next year. Luminar uses IHS who does industry forecasting to come up with an estimated number. The only elements considered booked with Volvo is the EX90 and EX90 Excellence. All the other models are not considered booked.
Josh: You have provided some margin targets - gross margin positive exiting this year. 35% in 2025. Longer term 65% gross margin.
Tom: ASP will be $1000 (plus or minus) range. The $1000 includes the BOM, the conversion costs, and then some drib and drab costs (like warranty). They use 3rd party partners like Fabrinet and Celestica to manufacture the sensor. They believe the cost a sensor will be $650 (plus or minus) once they get to scale in late 2024 or 2025 timeframe. Longer term, their next generation product (ready in the 2nd half of the decade) they believe they can get the cost down to $350 by bringing down the BOM cost and the conversion cost (i.e. manufacturing cost).
Josh: You have said you have enough capital to reach cash flow breakeven. What assumptions are baked into that? You did a shelf earlier this year.
Tom: The shelf is based upon them getting a lot of calls about M&A opportunities. Many companies are struggling to raise money right now. This would be for opportunistic M&A. They referenced some recent examples: Seagate LiDAR business, Argo Princeton operation, Velodyne/Ouster India operation, and Simple Map as examples). If an acquiree wants cash, they wanted an ability to act nimbly but then have the ability to backfill that cash by selling equity from the shelf. Tom reiterated they have enough cash to get to profitability. Cash burn will come down meaningfully toward the end of the year due to the one-time launch costs they have now.

2023.06.02 00:43 1lifeisworthit My chosen June challenges...

Because of the lack of a clear winner in the poll, I've chosen a few challenges for myself, as I've found that challenges really do keep me going through the month.
  1. Buying, cooking, and eating only groceries... Carrot being putting into savings $25.00 every week I don't eat out, Stick being I must take $25.00 out of savings and give it to someone whose cause I hate. I will allow myself to buy a frozen meal from the grocery store if I think it necessary. Connected to this is Using up all my home food storage this month.
  2. Continuation of the Zero-Out challenge every Sunday. This moving of small amounts into Savings was absolutely painless last month.
  3. Education... Either reading the book, Millionaire Next Door, and/or spending 1 hour per day on dilligent study of my Spanish, to increase my employability.
Best of luck to you, my friends.

2023.06.02 00:43 Tentaclaw Local shop with gallowfall, ashes of faith, soulshackle, nachmund

Hey all, There is a local game store near me that has one copy each of soulshackle, gallowfall, nachmund, and ashes of faith being sold at MSRP, if anyone would be interested in going halves on anything ? I would be interested in pretty much any of the different teams but already have a copy of the gallowdark terrain and soulshackle expansion. Alternatively, if someone wanted me to try and pick up the full copy for them by extension (if they cover shipping)?

2023.06.02 00:43 CommonJuggernaut8419 Cloridine & DLPA for Kratom withdrawals

I’m not a doctor and not giving advice, only sharing what worked for me.
I’ve been taking Kratom daily for the last 3 years. I’ve tried numerous times to quit, with no success. For the last 6 months or so, I’ve been taking about 20 grams a day.
Thankfully, I have a super cool doctor, who I felt comfortable enough to disclose my addiction with him. I found most doctors aren’t familiar with Kratom, so I had to do my own research and ask him to prescribe what I needed. He gave me 30 Ativan (only used as needed to sleep) and 30 - 0.1 mg Cloridine. I purchased 500 mg DLPA off Amazon. Along with a blood pressure monitor, since Cloridine causes your blood pressure to drop, and mine is within normal range.
This process worked for me, but you have to be committed and willing to record what you take daily.
For the first 3 days, I would take 1/2 of a Cloridine every few hours taking no more than .4 in a day. I also took 500 mg DLPA every few hours no more than 4000 mg a day. I also continued the Kratom, but tried to take less.
Days 4, 5, 6 & 7- same amount of Cloridine and DLPA, but was able to taper the Kratom down each day (18, 16, 14, 12 grams)
Day 8, - Cloridine & DLPA the same and zero Kratom. Some sleep issues but used the Ativan. Felt a little tired but not nearly as bad as times past when I’ve tried to quit.
Day 9 - Only needed 3000 mg of DLPA and .2 of the Cloridine. (That’s all day long). Felt good
Today is day 10- I’ve only taken 2000 mg of DLPA and .125 of the Cloridine. I’ve done more today than I’ve done in a long time. Yay!
75 hours Kratom free and have zero withdrawal symptoms! I think tomorrow I’ll cut the Cloridine down more and see about getting off of it.
I hope this information helps someone. I know all the reddits articles I’ve read have encouraged and helped me get off this nasty stuff. If I can do it, anyone can!
Good luck!

2023.06.02 00:42 The-Nex-Trash AITA for not wanting to be home on my little brother’s birthday?

My younger brother (9,M) is having his birthday party tomorrow. My mom (49,F) decided to throw him a pijama party and he invited 3 friends to sleep over.
No big deal. We’ve been planning this for about a month and I (20,F) even drew the invitations for the kids and had them printed on nice cardboard paper so my mom could hand them over, but I’ve been letting my mom know I really rather not be home on that day, since I want to be able to sleep properly. I arranged with my boyfriend (21,M) to sleep over at his place in advance, made sure it was okay and have been very vocal about it with my mom and she didn’t oppose to anything. She’d occasionally mention she wanted my help, to which I would respond that I was sorry, but I simply wouldn’t be around.
Now, for context, I am a college student and have been working very hard on a lot of projects. Since I’m in Art School, my assignments require a lot of work and time to get them done and I’m currently entering evaluation week, which means stress is very high. I’ve been struggling with mental health for nearly 10 years now and I don’t work very well under a lot of stress. Because of my mental health, I actually didn’t even want to enroll in Art School just yet (I entered later last year) and instead wanted to take a break to improve it, but my parents opposed the idea and insisted I went, so I did. This, of course, has been proving difficult, but I’m trying my best.
Today, my brother asked if I could make pancakes for him and his friends when they woke up the day after and I apologized to him, and said I wouldn’t be around. Suddenly, my mom asked me where I was going and I said “Oh, I’ll be sleeping at my boyfriend’s” Now, she’s mad at me because she thought I was joking when I was said I’d be out even though we talked about it - even my boyfriend mentioned it last week.
My dad backed up my mom and said he didn’t know about anything and doesn’t like the idea of me sleeping at my boyfriend’s house, even though his brother and dad are there too.
My mom said she was counting on my help and called me a liar when I said I spoke to her about this, but I don’t think it’s fair to plan a birthday party for my brother assuming I’ll be around to help without even asking me if I could. AITA?

2023.06.02 00:41 theTdot I got out

I've worked in a kitchen or some related role since i was 16 (nearly 30 now). I love to cook, I love to eat, I love the community and comradery that working in a face paced kitchen provides. I never had dreams of working in fine dining or owning a spot. Just polishing my skills and crushin that cold one with the staff after a grueling shift was always enough motivation to keep goin. After covid, like many of us, going back was hard for me. The owner was more of a douche bag, the orders more annoying and after having a taste of a good work life balance I knew my days were numbered. So i did what any proper self destructive chef would do and worked harder lol Got my first management role, my first sous role and took more on than I ever had. I hated it. I fell in love and had someone close to me for the first time tell me how angry I was after work. That coupled with getting fired back to back showed me I just wasnt in it anymore. I knew I could never be happy in the kitchen. After a massive identity crisis I landed in an electricians apprentice job. I still love the kitchen and dream of going back but after getting a 9-5 with weekends and holidays ALL for just a few dollar pay cut im stuck into my new life. Maybe I was just never cut out for it but I think a lot of fellow chefs have felt similarly to me. Cooking is not the only thing you are its just a part of you. Maybe someone needs to hear this maybe I'm just ranting. But if you ever need to gtfo entry level labor jobs pay great, work your ass like i know you like and have a great schedule. Still miss blastin it out with the boys on the line tho god damn lol
Keep rippin yall

2023.06.02 00:41 myalbatr0ss No reason to stop drinking?

burner account bc I'm paranoid lol
tw: loss, alcoholic logic
I've been reading on this community for a few months and reading everyone's stories has been very helpful for me. I just need to vent a little and thought this might be a good place. sorry if this is more of a stream of consciousness I just need to get things off my chest
I'm 23, and I've been drinking almost daily for the past 2-3 years. Right now I'm averaging eight beers a night, sometimes 9 or 10. Objectively, I know I need to stop. I'm rotating grocery stores out of embarrassment, and I'm falling apart. I'm so depressed, my house is disgusting, and I sleep most of the day until I either go to work or start drinking. the problem is I feel like I don't have a good reason to stop. I live alone after multiple traumatic family deaths in the last year and a half. as a result I basically have no family left. I never really made many friends either so I'm really on my own. I go to work, work on my online classes, and drink. no one is concerned about my drinking because there's no one who would know. In my (probably addict) mind, why would I give up having fun getting drunk by myself at night when my other option is to have panic attacks? I couldnt' sleep sober at all for a year after my mom died. Now I can sometimes but it's really hard. I'm struggling so much with grief and probably ptsd that the only time I can even laugh at something or relax is when I'm drinking.
the ironic part is that I feel like I should know better. I'm a nurse, and my dad was an alcoholic the whole time I was growing up and I watched it wreck my family. I just feel like since I don't have any family left, it doesn't matter if I'm a drunk. I know I have a lot of issues at play here and should probably seek some kind of professional help haha but like I said I just wanted to vent a bit to some people who might understand. if you've read all this thank you, I support all of you!

2023.06.02 00:40 ThrowawayDay2023 I took an important step today. Finally.

TW: Brief mention of Suicide
I am depressed. I have been for a long time. I can't remember when it started, exactly but it's been, by a rough estimate, about 9/10 years now. It's been bad. I isolated myself nearly completely. For a time, I was a total shut-in. I flunked out of college and, on one particularly dark day, I nearly tried to end it all. I ended up not going through with it but the situation never really improved. I moved back home, settled in to a minimum wage, dead-end job and continued just... existing. Not living... just existing. Wake up, go to work, come home, wait until it gets dark enough to sleep and repeat.
It's been several years of this. Occassionally I go for job interviews for better jobs but it's lead to nothing so far. I have no friends. I live in a pretty rural area so it's a small community. I've never had a girlfriend or anything close to that... I just can't bear the thought of putting myself out there like that. It's been so long like this that I have trouble believing that things will ever change.
But today... today I finally did something that I wasn't sure I was ever going to do. I called and made a doctor's appointment. It's still a couple weeks away but I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't know what's going to happen from here on. Therapy? Meds? I really don't know but it's something. I don't have anyone in my life I can tell about this but it's a really important step for me and, I dunno, I guess I feel a little proud of myself? If I can even allow myself to feel like that.
Realistically, I know this won't fix all my problems and I've got a long way to go before I'll be genuinely satisfied with life. This isn't the end of the race... I'm just glad to have made it to the start line.

2023.06.02 00:40 No_Cardiologist_911 The differences in our [34M] [28F] sex drives is becoming a deal breaker. What should we do?

I read and was told online that men in Muslim countries commonly have sex with other men due to sexual repression and gender segregation, where women are unavailable
I was also told the women in those situations don't have sex with other women anywhere near as commonly
This made me think that male sexuality depends almost solely on the sexual availability of women while female sexuality depends on so much more than the sexual availability of men
I asked my psychologist, parents and sister. They said that it would be a minority of men who would do that and that in most cases (like prisons) women do it with other women as often, even more. My psychologist said she worked in both men's and women's prisons and that the women do that with each other much more than the men do it
What do you think?
Because if it's not somewhat equal between men and women and if it is so one sided, then that puts me off men as a gender completely because it would show that women like men more, in a more well rounded way and that take sex away and men turn to men. So their attraction and interest in women is paper thin.

2023.06.02 00:39 ToxicStallUmbreon [US, US] (H) Axew BW16, Ex era holos/RHs, Trade Binder, Slabs w/ Error slab (W) Moonbreon, Raichu & Alolan Raichu alt, Wantlist, Paypal

Hi everyone!
Looking to fund a moonbreon purchase in the near future so almost everything is open to offers! Please let me know if you have a desired condition in mind when asking about a card as the vintage leans more towards played with some LP and NM
Axew sold listings are super few and far between, only listing on TCGPlayer is "LP" but creased. Last sold on ebay was for around $170, I'm leaning towards $125 PP or $150 TV to move quickly. Also open to trades including eeveelution alts and my wantlist so make an offer!
Aside from the axew, the first page of my trade binder is trade only atm. I've also decided to include my ex era holo/rh collection to feel out interest. Not in any hurry to move so will be picky on trades and would probably only sell as a lot
Pricing based on TCGPlayer and Ebay sold listings except for red/green giftset moltres error slab which I'll start at $150
Trade Binder and axew: https://imgur.com/a/vcZ3YKk Ex era: https://imgur.com/a/Jzuqr7N Slabs: https://imgur.com/a/Xiot3OU

2023.06.02 00:39 sidedishx need help deciding

I would say I am intermediate hobbyist bassist with the interest to take lessons and grow.
That being said, I had a beautiful bass that I loved to play and felt and sounded amazing to me.
It was a Fender player series jaguar bass with flatwounds. I played mostly the P pup and I loved the feel and sound. Unfortunately that guitar was involved in an accident with which I don't care to discuss the details. Getting it repaired is an option, but getting a new one is a more immediate and guaranteed one, so I have been shopping around.
I tried a mid range musicman bass, but the neck was driving me crazy and I'm not sure if I want or need one with just the bridge pickups or one with both neck and bridge pickups.
SO I went shopping online. Two basses caught my eye, with p or pj config.
One was the Sire Marcus Miller P5 (4 string). Looks good, not sure how the sound would compare to the pickups from my jag though.
The other one was a Charvel Pro-mod san dimas PJ IV. It's an active bass which I have never played with, and I heard that playing it in its passive mode is lackluster.
Unfortunately, the Charvel is the only one I can visit a shop near me to actually play, so I am looking for a little advice. I am planning on test driving the Charvel, but the Sire has me more interested. Looking for any info from anyone with experience with either.
I am also considering just getting a squire or MIM P-bass, but I figured if I am going to get a new bass, and possibly repair my jag, I'd try something from a different manufacturer. Just want to hear some thoughts.

2023.06.02 00:38 ChampionshipRight586 In celebration of pride month my supervisor fired me without warning for being a lesbian. What should I do now? My mom & I are already suffering from financial strain

Im a openly gay female. When I 1st applied to this job I only met staff workers as the owners wife hired me via text (1st red flag!) I also told her my mom has cancer and from time to time I would need to be off. Ive been there 3 months, no right ups, never late or called in. Here's the problem, I'm openly gay and staff let me know she dislikes lgbtq+. Well of course that had me worried but I live in a area without bus access so I walk a hour to work. Well after my day off for the holiday (Memorial Day) she didn't tell what time to work. As I said before, I hadn't been in trouble so I walked to work. I got there and I wasn't on the schedule, I text her & she said she didn't need me anymore. I'm literally in tears, this is the only job I could find near by. My mom is sick and on limited income. I need work as soon as possible to pay for her medications. I dont even have enough karma to use certain reddit groups. Can someone give me advice om what I can do next? Im beyond humiliated and Im a damn hard worker, all because Im gay I got fired. I have no car or bus access so that makes it worse. I was so close to being able to get transportation now this bulls****

2023.06.02 00:37 CluckBucketz The two new episodes really show improvement

It really feels like the writers are finding their footing again and I've noticed a lot of people's criticisms with the first two episodes don't really apply to these. There's no meta humor, there are more historical references (JFK aksing what can go wrong in a convertible and Joan being crucified), and the writing is much more focused on jokes with one being in nearly every scene. I'd say episode three is up there with the season one episodes. While I didn't care for episode four as much, it still has plenty of good jokes (the opening in Florida and JFK saying; "tell me what to do, man on the radio"). The show really feels like it's improving, what do you guys think?

2023.06.02 00:35 go-move-78 Coming from a C/systems development world, what would be a good way to use JS in a simpler, less complex way?

I've been putting off learning JS for years because my experience with it has been incredibly poor. I come from systems programming. In C, and even more generally systems programming, there's rarely that many ways to accomplish a task. Tasks, regardless of complexity, have pretty obvious solutions as long as you're familiar with the language (in C's case, it's so incredibly tiny that you can't avoid knowing the whole language).
My issue with JS (though not nearly as much as my issues with the god-forsaken language of Python), is that there are way, way, way too many ways to tackle a problem. People like variety in JS, C programmers do not. We like standards and things that never break because the standards are so unbelievably rigid. Which library do we use? The only one, maybe a 2nd one, but the industry standard is always clear.
Javascript runs the world, and I'd like to work with it seriously. My goal is to move away from my systems programming career and get a job with JS since the fields which use JS tend to have higher quality of life for programmers. Most likely means webdev, but anything JS related is fine.
Is there anything in JS that will get me a bit closer to the sanity I'm familiar with when using C? I know that there are a lot of frameworks which have their own way of doing things, and I know that things like Typescript exist, but I don't know how common it is.
I'd like to use something that maintains a very strict standard:
I might be out of luck, in which case I'll suffer through it. But I imagine that some business, some project, something, has done work to make javascript more concrete and smaller.
