2023.06.07 13:34 BaseballSeveral1107 I HATE WINTER

It's cold. But when it's winter it must be cold. And that's the problem. You either have to pay for heat or get tired with getting coal or wood, starting the fire and checking it doesn't spread. Going out is a torture. You have to put in a dozen layers of clothes. Underwear, pants, short-sleeved shirt, long-sleeved shirt, sweatshirt, boots, neck warmer, hat, gloves. To go out to a shop that is on the ground level or just around the corner, you need all this wearing and getting tired. Winter clothes are heavy, limit motions, sometimes even visibility, and are hard to put on and put off. So buying those is hard and even if you do, then they're hard to walk in. Summer and spring don't have those problems, because you can put on clothes for outdoors and indoors, just change boots and you're alright.
And winter is such a great time to get sick. And the worst thing is having a stuffed nose and have to breathe with your mouth, with this cold air. Throat damage guaranteed, plus this pain in the face from the cold air blowing in your direction. Summer and spring don't have such problems. And winter has the highest amount of deaths of all the seasons. I literally got a frostbite because I touched snow with my bare hands because I didn't have gloves on them. And if you're healthy and put on the clothes, there's another problem.
Getting around. Most of us are rich and have a car and can drive wherever they want. But if you can't, you have to use public transit. I don't have anything about just using it or the fact of the existence of public transit, but the quality of those in Poland, where I live, leaves much to be desired. You have to wait, in cold. In a city this isn't a problem as big as in the rural areas where buses function. These are often coming only in early mornings and in early afternoon, but even if they come more often, they often are late. And no matter the location, you often have to stand, and even if you find a seat, you can sometimes smell people who don't shower very often. Trams, trains, metros and buses are often heated, like most indoor places, we'll get to that later, and people coming there in winter are usually in jackets and sweat in those vehicles, especially considering how crowded they often get and how warm those crowded people are. You'll sweat like a construction worker after 8 hours of work during a heatwave. And driving doesn't save you from the effects of winter. You have to scrape snow from your car, the engine can not start or the visibility is low and roads are blocked or icy, you can skid easily and crash into another car, a pedestrian, a pole or a tree. Walking does neither. If snow falls, it's crushed by people walking, melts and freezes again, and or forms ice on the sidewalk. And you can slip on it and either break something or die. Each time I walk on it, I think I'm gonna die. Either i slip on it and land on a spiked fence, I land on the sidewalk and break something, or I land on the street and get run over by a semi truck or a car. If you manage to get to your destination, there's another problem.
All the buildings are heated, so if you're in winter clothes, you're going to sweat like a construction worker after 8 hours of work during a heatwave.
It's dark half the day. You go to work or school, dark, you go back, dark. And the other half it's cloudy and grey. And the whole world dies. No leaves, no grass, no flowers, some animals hibernate, just grey, cloudy skies and white brown combination of snow, soil, water and mud. No sun. Sure, there are Christmas lights but let's face it, they are only to hide the grey and dark.
It's a hard time for students. The semester ends. You have to pass everything. They throw a lot of tests and quizzes at you. You will tire yourself to death.
Winter sports and games. Snowballs. I hate snowballs. Even if the person who throws one is someone I like. Usually, I take it easy, but in my mind, I hate it. Ice skating. I can't do that because the nearest lake or skating rink is too far away to walk. I could afford that, but I would need to wear all those clothes, get on the bus, ask my parents for approval, get back. No way. Skiing. I live in a city surrounded by forests and farm fields. No way. Sledding. Those are easier because I have some hills in my neighborhood, but going out, taking the sled, going back. Nope. Snowman. Going out. No.
And there are, CHRISTMAS IN WINTER. I'm fed up with them. Literally a few days after Halloween and All Saints Day, all the shops and malls are decorated, and Christmas songs are playing on the radio and Christmas commercials on TV. "Last Christmas, I gave you my heart...":“Christmas promotion! Bone carp, only 21.37 per package or a withered Christmas tree, 69.69 each plus delivery for 3.21. Holidays for Christmas, Old Zealand, 666.66 both ways. Christmas loans, only in Pierogi Bank Polski." Don't take Christmas loans, that's the stupidest thing you can do in that time of the year. They're still up everywhere, wherever I go, whatever I look at. Until the day finally arrives, December 24, when you are completely fed up with it. And it's not like I hate Christmas. Christmas in their current shape and theme are asking for dislike. You want to get up, leave, and come back when all this madness is over. But it's nice that we have time off and we get presents and meet our family. In the summer we have more free time, and on birthdays and name days we also get gifts and meet our family. But always something. And then there's another holiday.
New Year's Eve and New Year, when humans celebrate Earth going around the Sun once again, while nothing besides it happens in nature and humanity on those two days. You can do whatever you want on that day, and in my case, it'll be sitting on the couch in pajamas, watching TV and eating some unhealthy snacks like chips. Most people will spend it partying with friends and family and doing stuff together. And then, they will count from 10 to 1 like if a rocket was starting, and then fireworks explore, and dogs are scared. Afterwards, people will start to go home. And then you can't sleep the whole night because some idiots have too much fireworks and firecrackers, which is also a problem the whole winter.

2023.06.07 10:19 tenuissimus I sleep a lot + cannot stay awake, how do y’all manage it?

Okay so, I’ve got a bit of a medical history background that I think is maybe important? I (24nb) have epilepsy (absence seizures, specifically) that I’m being treated for, as well as severe daily migraines that are treatment-resistant. I’ve been suffering with them for 8 years and no amount or combination of medications helps. I was diagnosed with Chiari 1 malformation but my neurologist said it isn’t anything of concern. I have nasal polyps in my maxillary sinuses but sleep study results said I don’t have sleep apnea
So my issue: aside from all of that, I am so deeply exhausted all of the time. No matter how much or how little I sleep, I always wake up feeling like I haven’t slept in days. I always feel some amount of tired during the day. I also have a hard time staying awake while driving, and I try to sing or just scream or hit my leg to keep myself up but it doesn’t work. I’m thinking I might have to stop driving bc of it :(
I also sleep for a long long time if left undisturbed, I’m talking 16+ hours (or 24+ if I have a particularly bad migraine), but I wake up a lot, twitch really hard, and I feel like I need to wiggle my toes throughout the night. When I do have to be awake, waking up feels impossible, like dragging myself out of mud. I’m always angry when I wake up too! Not cute of me!
The amount that I sleep is genuinely ruining my quality of life. I can’t make plans or have hobbies, I just work and sleep because I can barely function throughout the day
I had a sleep study done a few years ago, they said that everything came back normal.
I feel miserable like this. Has anyone experienced something similar? How do y’all manage?

2023.06.07 05:59 MrBattleRabbit 175 Mile Dual Sport Ride Through the Adirondacks on the Himalayan

175 Mile Dual Sport Ride Through the Adirondacks on the Himalayan
The little mule does it again- my dad and I joined a 175 mile dual sport ride through NY’s Adirondack Mountains. He was on his KTM 990 Adventure S Dakar, and I was on the Himalayan.
The ride was led by the owner of a local Beta dealership, who is also an experienced flat-track, enduro, and motocross racer (shoutout to Jim, he rules). He led the ride on his Honda Africa Twin, and the group included Triumph Tigers, KTMs 990 and 1290 Adventures, several Honda CRFs another Africa Twin, a pair of T7s, and me on the only Himalayan to ever join one of Jim’s rides.
I’m glad to say that I and the Himalayan acquitted ourselves well. On dirt road sections I was able to maintain the group pace easily, and compared to some of the larger bikes I seemed to have an easier time hanging the rear out and rotating into tighter corners.
On the day’s toughest climb, which wound up taking down three of the larger adventure bikes, I also made it up without trouble.
In most sections my pace was somewhere between the faster front running group (the CRFs, my dad’s KTM, one of the T7s, and the two Tigers), and the four guys in the slower rear group. Generally, the more technical it was the closer I was to the front group.
I did have a bit of a tank slapper in the dirt early in the day (recovered without incident), and I dug into some deep sand late in the day (also recovered without going down), so the day wasn’t totally without incident for me.
On the road I had no trouble keeping up with the group- big shoutout to the Shinko tires I’m running now, they give a lot more grip leaned over than the stock Ceats did. I had to bank on my ability to maintain momentum to keep my pace up, but the Himmy didn’t disappoint too badly.
It was a good time though, and I’m looking forward to the next one. A steering damper might not be a bad idea in the meantime though.
It was a good time, and good to get the Himalayan out if its slow tractor comfort zone.

2023.06.07 05:36 caleblcoyle Had a funny Bail

Today when I was riding down a blue trail called Binx, trying to hit a jump I’ve never really liked. I landed with my weight really far back and my dick and balls got sucked into my mud guard, where they locked up my wheel. Leading to me sliding around on my back tire until I low sided.

No low tire pressure warning
Hi y’all! I have a 2022 Honda Civ Hatchback Sport Touring and I’m also a new driver. I had a nail in my tire causing a flat and I had no tire pressure warning. I watched a YT video where the person looked on the infotainment system > vehicle settings > tire pressure monitoring system but I don’t even have that as an option. Why didn’t my car tell me that the tire pressure was low? I’d really like to know as I’m a new driver and this is my first car

Acura Sports Car: A High-Performance Vehicle For Everyone

The Acura sports car is a high-performance vehicle that is available in a variety of models. The base model starts at $33,950, while the top-of-the-line model can cost up to $156,000. The Acura sports car is packed with features and amenities that make it a great choice for anyone looking for a high-performance vehicle.

Honda’s luxury brand Acura is a division of the Japanese company. Only one Acura sports car exists in the world, and it is an excellent machine. With the introduction of the Acura Integra, Honda introduced the world’s first aluminum-production vehicle, as well as VTEC technology. Acura NSX buyers can select from a variety of optional extras as well as standard Acura features. There’s also the NSX GT3, which is specifically designed for race car drivers. This is not a production car, nor is it allowed on a racetrack.

Acura TLXs start at $37,700 in 2022 and are extremely affordable for a luxury midsize car. All-wheel drive will increase the price by $2,200. The Acura TLX, which includes the Type S Performance, is the entry-level model. Packages for wheels and tires start at $53,600.

The Honda NSX is also known as Acura NSX (North America), and the production year 2005–2022 was followed by years 1991–2005, 2017–2022.

The 2022 NSX Type S will come with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $169,500, plus a destination charge of $27,500.

A NSX – 1st Gen, on average, costs $79,997.

How Much Are Acura Sports?

There is no definitive answer to this question as prices can vary significantly depending on the model and year of the vehicle. However, Acura sports cars are generally considered to be moderately priced when compared to other luxury brands. Additionally, Acura frequently offers special deals and incentives on their vehicles, so it is always worth checking for current offers.

The Acura NSX, the company’s flagship hybrid sports car, costs around $160,000. A 1991 Acura NSX, priced at $62,000, has an Instant Market Value of $91,342 on CarGurus. The NSX’s RWD configuration is popular due to its high performance and low fuel consumption.

The Acura Nsx Type S Is A High Performance Sports Car.
Acura’s NSX Type S sports car is a cutting-edge performance model that will set you apart. This car has a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph, making it a fitting choice for those who enjoy driving fast. The 2021 Acura NSX begins at $157,500, but many other luxury sports cars have more expensive top trims than the NSX. If you want a car that will leave a lasting impression on people and will handle some of the best track conditions you can find, the Acura NSX is a great choice.

How Much Are Acura Nsx Cars?
The Acura NSX will set you back around $28,000. The starting price for the 2022 Acura NSX Type S is $169,500, which is quite high for a luxury sports car.

The 2022, Acura NSX has a powerful V6 hybrid engine that can propel it to breathtaking speeds. The NSX’s interior is roomy, its seats are comfortable all day, and it has a longer-than-average warranty. If you’re thinking about an older model, our older model reviews can help you make the best decision. The 2022 Acura NSX Type S has a 600-hp hybrid powertrain combined with all-wheel drive. The Chevrolet Corvette, like the Acura NSX, is a mid-engine sports car. As a result, the Nissan GT-R starts at around $55,000 less than the BMW M3. This is a better sports car than others and a better value overall.

The Acura NSX Type S can travel from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds. The NSX can also be driven silently at low speeds with an electric-only Quiet mode. The interior of a $170,000 car is uncomfortable. The capabilities of the infotainment system are limited, but they are simple to use. Acura NSX has a trunk that measures 4.4 feet long and 9.4 feet wide. There is excellent visibility on both sides due to the thin roof pillars and a low-slung hood. The cabin also muffles road and wind noise in addition to muffling road and wind noise.

The Acura NSX Type S is only available in 300 models in the United States. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds thanks to a 600-hp hybrid powertrain, lithium-ion battery pack, and all-wheel drive. The current-generation NSX was released in 2017, and it continues to mix civility and sportiness with its predecessor’s civility. The 2022 Acura NSX Type S is among the best vehicles in its class. Driving fast but relaxing when you pilot day in and day out is exhilarating and enjoyable. Its powerful V6 hybrid system has been described as the most advanced in its class. The issue is that, while the NSX has the look of a luxurious car, it does not offer the level of luxury that it claims to provide.

This is an introduction. The Honda NSX is a true sports car, one of the most iconic models in history. It’s not only one of the most expensive, but it’s also one of the most well-known. The Honda NSX is a fantastic driver’s car with an excellent combination of performance and handling. Furthermore, it is a beautiful vehicle with a sleek design that will undoubtedly draw attention. If you want a car that is both reliable and extremely luxurious, you should consider the Honda NSX.

How Much Does A 2020 Acura Nsx Cost?
In the United States, the 2020 Acura NSX will retail for $157,500, including the $1,995 destination fee. That is well below the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Audi R8 V10, as well as the Lamborghini Huracan and Ferrari 488 GTB, which are on the high end of the price spectrum.

If a 2020 Acura NSX with no options and 12,000 miles per year in clean condition was sold for $110,042, it would be worth around $540,050 in trade-in value. You should deduct a couple thousand dollars for each of the lower two condition levels if the vehicle is in poor shape. If you traded in a 2020 Acura NSX with no options and 12,000 miles per year in clean condition, you could get about $110,042 for one with no options. You can get a more accurate appraisal by going to Edmunds and entering the vehicle’s details, which will give you a more accurate number.

The Acura NSX Type S, on the other hand, will not be available in the United States until 2022, according to Acura. Acura has confirmed that the supercar has sold out. There is currently only one NSX model available in 2022 – the NSX Type S, a 600-hp farewell to the Japanese supercar. The 2020 all-wheel drive (AWD) model’s limited weight and 573 horsepower make it a viable alternative to a hybrid. Acura NSXs can travel at a top speed of 190 mph and a top speed of 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. While the Acura NSX is no longer available in the United States, it will always be remembered in Japan. Acura NSX epitomized what a supercar could be, and its legacy will last for a long time after it is no longer available.

The Acura Nsx: An Exotic Sports Car Worth The Price
The Acura NSX is an exotic sports car with two people inside. There is a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain in which two electric motors drive the front wheels, a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine drives the rear wheels, and an additional electric motor drives the front wheels. The base MSRP for the 2021 NSX is $157,500, making it the most expensive model in its class. The NSX, on the other hand, comes standard with a front-wheel drive model, but there are many other luxury sports cars that come with an optional, more expensive interior. The NSX, in the end, is a luxury vehicle with a high price tag that may be difficult to afford for some. Nonetheless, if you can afford it, the Acura NSX is an excellent vehicle to consider.

How Fast Is The New Acura Nsx?

The new Acura NSX is incredibly fast. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, and it has a top speed of 191 mph. It’s also very efficient, getting 28 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city.

The video above promises a performance upgrade for the Acura NSX Type S that is faster than ever before. In the teaser video, you see a close-up look at the Type S engine, then a shadowed NSX tearing through the night sky. Is it possible to make a car go faster than 60 mph? Will it go faster top speed? Can it lap faster racetracks? Why or why not? The Type S will be introduced during Monterey Car Week in California on August 12. It is expected that only 350 will be built, with production ending in 2022, when the second-generation NSX will come to an end. The NSX Type R was the subject of many rumors in the past about its 650 horsepower (485 kilowatts) engine.

A quarter mile time of 14.6 seconds also works well. Because of its all-wheel drive system and ability to take advantage of the traction provided by its tires, this vehicle can achieve this level of performance. Driving the Acura NSX is enjoyable because it is an extremely high-performance sports car. This car has a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds and a quarter mile time of 14.2 seconds, making it capable of traveling at a top speed of more than 200 mph. Furthermore, the NSX’s all-wheel drive system is designed to handle any terrain or road conditions that may arise. Whether you want a powerful sports car that can handle any kind of driving or a vehicle that can handle any type of terrain, the Acura NSX is an excellent choice.

Acura Nsx For Sale
The Acura NSX for sale is a sports car that was first introduced in 1990. It was designed to compete with the likes of the Porsche 911 and the Chevrolet Corvette. The NSX was Acura’s first foray into the world of supercars and it did not disappoint. The NSX is powered by a 3.0L V6 engine that produces 276 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. It is rear-wheel drive and has a 5-speed manual transmission. The NSX is not only fast, but it is also extremely reliable and has a reputation for being one of the best handling cars on the road. If you are in the market for a supercar, the Acura NSX should definitely be at the top of your list.

The car has excellent gas mileage as well as excellent handling and other worldly acceleration. I drove my car 2,300 miles in three days, and I am a 6’4″ tall guy. A car like this is not designed to draw attention to itself by being brightly colored or excessively loud. The supercar character shines in track mode. You shouldn’t play Sport because it’s mediocre and the worst of Quiet and Sport Plus modes. There are numerous ways to consider the NSX’s drivetrain. It has a 3.5-liter V6 engine and two turbochargers on the inside and out. An electric motor is located between the V6 and the 9-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The first production model of the NSX was released in Japan in February 1991 as a result of a collaboration between Honda and Acura. In 1993, Acura began selling the Acura NSX in North America, and it went on to sell in Europe and Asia. Following the suspension of production in Japan in December 2001, Honda discontinued the production of the NSX in North America in March 2002. The Acura NSX Zanardi Edition, a limited edition version of the NSX introduced in 1999, is available only to a select group of buyers. Ayrton Senna, a McLaren Formula One driver who died in a car accident in 1988, was the inspiration for the Zanardi Edition. The Acura brand is marking its 25th anniversary this year with the creation of the Zanaardi Edition NSX, in honor of the memory of iconic driver Alfonso Senna. The Zanardi Edition NSX is a 1999 special edition of the NSX. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Acura’s inception, the company created a limited edition NSX that pays homage to the memory of late driver Alfonso Assis. The Zanardi Edition NSX is a limited edition version of the NSX that was introduced in 1999. The NSX Zanzaardi Edition is a limited production version that was introduced in 1999. Only 51 Acura NSX Zanardi Edition vehicles have ever been built, making it one of the most rare vehicles. If you want one, you’ll have to be willing to pay a lot of money for it. But if you’re a fan of the Senna and want a cool NSX, this is the car for you.

The 2019 Acura Nsx Is A Great Choice For Those Looking For A Fast And Fuel-efficient Car.
Despite its flaws, the Acura NSX is a very fast car. This vehicle can reach 60 mph in just a little over three seconds, and it is one of the most fuel-efficient NSX models on the market, saving more than 50 pounds per mile. My pick for the most underrated truck
The boar is an absolute unit of a truck that I see no appreciation for. Has one of the best turning circles in the heavy class (if not the best), fits chained tires, has one of the strongest engines in the game, it’s high saddle sits really tall which helps for bigger trailers, has massive ground clearance and wheels, only downside is really no mud tires

2023.06.07 02:37 Ralts_Bloodthorne First Contact - Chapter 962 - The Shadows of Twilight

[first] [prev] [next] - [wiki]
There are some deeds, some crimes and horrors even our Mother, the Universe itself, loathes beyond all. And when this is the case, neither time, nor space, nor reality itself can deny her vengeance.
Because time is a flat circle... and we all dance on its twisting disk. - kwong879, Pukan philosopher, Post Second Precursor War Reconstruction Era
For three days and three nights did the Lady Lord of Hell, the Detainee herself, in all of her fearsome matronly glory, tempt the First Biological Disciple, Daxin Freeborn, Enraged Phillip.
And for three days and three nights did he deny her.
And thus did he pass into memory and legend. - The Book of Telkan
And before I took the lives of the damned, He did appear before us and commanded my hand still.
His glowing blue form a radiant mercy. For us.
For them. - Glory, Failure, Temptation, & Redemption, Magnus Oathsworn
There is no doubt of the fact of malevolence. The very universe itself reaches out to crush what she has birthed in an eternal struggle of hatred. There are, however, some sins which even in the face of annihilation cannot be countenanced. Some acts which even this malevolent universe will not tolerate. Protect the infants at all cost, for they are survival, and to sacrifice survival for the sake of survival shall bring only suffering and doom. - Wisdom of the Traveler, Tribulations, Chapter 5 Verse 1.
In the Age of Paranoia, Humanity's leadership ordered terrible things done. Not because they knew they were necessary, but because they might become necessary. Never realizing that the existence of those terrible things would drive them to find a reason to use them. — Prof. Kuruka N'anga, University of the Sacred Bough, Terra Nuevo
While many things enrage the Lady of Hell, in fact most things seem to, certain crimes and sins earn her personal wrath. The many men who took everything from her. The idiotic creatures who thought themselves masters of everything. And those who commit cruelties upon the innocent. For she sees all of mankind's many many sins and knows very few are clean of them. Wise beings fear when cold gray eyes turn upon them.
We were desperate, and in our desperation we reached for things that will haunt me for all eternity. We could have stopped at anytime, we should have stopped before it was too late. We ignored the warnings, in our hubris we were assured that what we were doing was necessary. We were right, but it was still wrong and there is not enough time in the universe to pay for what we did. We ignored all the warnings and applauded ourselves on our success...only moments later the shouts of joy and celebration became screams of terror as the gray-eyed one illustrated why the warnings of these dark sciences should be heeded. --Words found in a blood-soaked journal at dark site research station, this was the only document recovered. Site glassed and all traces of the research were redacted.
It was misty, with a little bit of rain. The anomaly was hidden behind artificially generated cloud cover so that it looked more like an overcast sun than the strange globe of psuedo-reality it was. The starwalk station was empty, no bones, no shades, no scars from the furious fighting that had taken place after the Glassing had driven the SUDS personnel insane.
Holos flickered, some advertising restaurants or stores, others with directions, some with safety warnings, and still others with just public service holograms. The mist made the holograms flicker and fade in and out as the focused laser systems were scattered by the tiny water droplets suspended in the air.
There was a beep and the gate opened, allowing Surscee to step from the starwalk to the platform. She was wearing revealing leathers, a bustier, a short skirt with copper strips for reinforcement, tight weave fishnet stockings, and polished black leather boots with silver buckles. Around her shoulders was a gauzy sheer cape that shed the moisture even as it gleamed and sparkled.
She stopped to examine a few of the public service announcements. Some making her smile, others making her shake her head.
"You are a window to the world of my ancestors, nine thousand years gone," she said softly, touching the base of the holo. She moved to another and watched it. "We are not so different, you and I," she said, her voice full of wonder. She watched a PSA to remind everyone not to bring plants from Earth in case of seed contamination. "Your lives were full of danger that eventually became mundane," she said softly.
"That's humanity in a nut shell," the voice from behind her was low, rough, a woman's whiskey and cigarettes voice.
"Although ever changing, thus, we are," Surscee said, straightening up. She turned around and looked over the short matron in her dark charcoal gray skirt and blouse. "Greetings, fearsome one."
"Greetings to you, sorceress," the Lady Lord of Hell said. She looked Surscee up and down slowly. "Huh."
Surscee raised an eyebrow.
"Nice to see the Great Value Red Sonja look isn't just an act," the Lady Lord of Hell said, turning and walking into the mist. "Magic, science, mysticism, technology, all the same to the ignorant." Her voice faded as she walked away.
Surscee watched the short woman walk away, then turned and went back to following the path.
She was startled to discover that the vending machines were not VI driven, but just mechanical with a few holograms.
One of the vending machines that normally dispensed energy drinks and fizzybrews was ripped open, like someone had hacked on it with a blade. Surscee noted that most of the Liquid Hate was gone.
She got a lemon-lime fizzypop and followed the softly glowing holographic line of the ground until she finally came to a small park.
She stopped at the playground, leaning against a cement post, and stared at it.
The swings moved slightly back and forth at the almost unfelt breeze that stirred the mist. Droplets of water ran down the slide. The swinging rings just rocked slightly in the air current. The seesaw and the spring horses, the jungle gym and the wooden playhouse all sat quietly, damp from the mist.
Surscee closed her eyes, cocking her head slightly, listening for any echoes of happiness gone by.
"I would bring them here to play, once I had soothed their trauma to where they could interact with one another, to the point they could do more than run and scream and claw at themselves," the voice of the gray eyed matron sounded behind Surscee.
The sorceress turned, seeing the darkly clothed matron standing under a tree, barely visible in the fog, lighting a cigarette.
"I recreated it in Hell, just for them. To let them be children again, to remember," her voice said. She took a drag off her cigarette and Surscee saw the stern planes of the smaller woman's face illuminated for a moment. When she exhaled smoke, Surscee could still see her gun-metal gray eyes.
"I set fallen angels to watch over the park with sword of burning sin and tridents of icy treachery," she said, then turned and walked into the mist.
Surscee frowned as the matron vanished into the mist.
She waited a moment, but the other woman was gone.
Surscee moved on, making no sign of effort as she brought up her defenses. Her fingernails twinkled slightly as the microscopic piezoelectric systems came online. The targeting reticles and the HUD elements appeared in her vision. She brought up the passive acoustic mapping and changed the hardness of the heels of her boots so that her boots clicked with each step.
The fog muffled the acoustic map slightly, the water droplets absorbing and redirecting sound, making the map fuzzy here and there.
She passed by a vending machine and smelled cigarette smoke. The onboard systems broke it down for her, putting it up in the tiny window beyond her left hand peripheral vision. No manufacturer signature, no trace elements from other worlds. Her onboards told her that it was Old Earth brand, the tobacco lacking any genetic engineering and the cigarette containing nothing but an asbestos filter, paper, and tobacco. No flavors, no genetic smoothing, no flavor enhancements. No record in the database she always carried loaded.
She frowned slightly.
"You are unmoved by human suffering, making you suitable for this task," a tired sounding man said from just past a set of benches. He was leaning against a fountain. He had shaggy cut dark hair, a simple pair of pants and shirt without decoration, and dark circles under his eyes.
Two steps and the figure vanished.
The echolocation acoustic mapping told her that there was a solid bipedal humaniod form there for a split second but it vanished just when she got in range of it.
Surscee followed the arc of the path, curiosity filling her.
She knew if the being that had manifested as a five meter tall demon with bat wings and a whip of burning warsteel links woven with barbed wire, or the short matron with the nasty steel knife, wanted to kill her, the being simply would.
Surscee was curious what the purpose of this was.
"Enemies never rest. That's why they're called the Enemy, you blithering morons. I swear, dealing with the two of you is like dealing with particularly naive and ignorant children who are shocked, shocked I tell you, that they can't ziptie a plastic bag around their head and dance in the middle of the Interstate during rush hour," the matron's voice was cruel and full of disdain. "Of course millions are dying, that's what happens when you act like atomic weapons are no more dangerous than sparklers."
Surscee didn't bother to look around, her onboard bioware systems letting her know that the point of origin for the voice kept moving and shifting.
A trivial trick with nanites and one she had used often to confuse and harry foes.
"Your weakness disgusts me," the woman's voice hissed from between two food vending machines. "If you spent less time crying and more time fixing the system you'd be done by now, you pathetic puling weakling."
Surscee smiled slightly.
The voice reminded Surscee of her mother mocking her lessers.
There was a small basket with berries and small fruits sitting on a bench and Surscee's smile got wider. She moved over and sat down, picking up the basket and setting it on her lap.
If the being wanted her dead, she would be dead, simple as that.
The berries were blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Clean, sweet and tart.
After a moment the matron came walking out of the fog, opening a breast pocket to remove a pack of cigarettes and a flint-steel lighter. The woman sat down, crossing her legs at the knee and smoothing her skirt. She then lit the cigarette, the flare of the lighter lighting her face with the warmth of the flame without making the face seem any warmer.
Surscee slowly chewed a blackberry as the cigarette was lit, puffed on, and the lighter clinked shut. The pack and the lighter went back into the top pocket, the matron's fingers nimbly buttoning up the pocket.
They sat there for a long moment.
"All of that power, all your knowledge and mastery of exotic and esoteric disciplines, and here you sit eating freshly picked berries and fruit," the matron said.
"I am a simple woman who enjoys simple pleasures," Surscee said, smiling.
"I could use someone like you on my team," the matron said, exhaling smoke. "Power, the will to dominate, the means to achieve the goals I set out for you."
"An enticing offer," Surscee said carefully. She picked up strawberry and bit off the tip, chewing slowly.
"With your brother as one of my Hell Knights, you would make an excellent Hell Storm," the matron said.
This time when she exhaled the smoke was tinged with a slight tang hot freshly spilled blood and a taint of brimstone.
"Acting as the agent of the Lady Lord of Hell herself," Surscee said. She picked up a black cherry and looked over it. "Empowered, strengthened, by the Lady Lord of Hell, to punish the wicked for their sins."
The matron nodded slowly.
"With you as the judge, myself as the jury, and my brother as the executioner," Surscee said, still smiling.
"At times," the matron said. She exhaled smoke and glared at the mist that surrounded them. "Do you know what sin mankind has fallen into?"
Surscee shook her head. "Pride, perhaps? My mother often spoke of sloth and gluttony, perhaps that?"
The matron shook her head. "No. Far far worse."
"I would hear your words, fearsome one," Surscee said, making sure her voice was respectful.
"An anecdote," the matron said. She sighed. "Later, in my life, as more and more people became enamored with being ethical, more for status than to be truly ethical, philosophers and those who called themselves ethecists began posing questions, providing answers, each of the seeking to be recognized as the pinnacle of ethics and morals that would guide humanity into a Golden Age."
"That smack of wickedness," Surscee said. "Of pride and arrogance."
The matron nodded. "One question, posed by academics to students, always enraged me. Asked by academics who had never traveled beyond their ivory towers or guarded enclaves, asked to pampered students who had spent their lives dwelling in luxuries beyond imagination to the people of my youth."
The matron reached down into the mist that covered her feet, lifting up a bottle of beer and popping the cap with a talon that immediately returned to a manicured nail.
"The question, put forth, involves a situation. I will explain it thusly: You are at a village in a war torn nation. A warlord arrives with his men, intending on killing the village. The reasons do not matter. However, the warlord makes you an offer, handing you a gun with a single bullet. Shoot one person, of your choice, and he will spare you and the survivors. Kill him, and his men will kill you, and allow the village to survive. Kill none, and he will order his men to kill all the villagers, man, woman, and child, but leave you to live," the matron said.
Surscee frowned. "A terrible choice."
The matron snorted. "The academics and ethical philosophers then asked their students: What is the most moral choice?" the matron looked at Surscee. "Care to make a guess?"
Surscee thought for a long moment. "Shoot one of his men. He did not say you had to kill a villager."
The matron laughed. "A choice fitting for a Great Value Red Sonja," she laughed. She shook her head. "But, you would be wrong. You see, you make the unethical choice to take a human life."
"Then what?" Surscee asked.
"To stand aside. That you do not make a choice. The philosophical correct answer was to stand aside, that the warlord and his men make their own decisions and it is not your responsibility nor your moral failing whatever they choose to do," the matron looked out at the mist, taking a swig of her beer. "Do nothing, let the trolley kill five, because for you to decide who lives and dies is unethical."
Surscee snorted. "Choosing to make no choice is a choice in and of itself. You should always seek to do the least harm and the greatest good."
The matron nodded.
"The cowardice disgusts me," the matron said. She took another swig of her beer and then a drag from her cigarette. She exhaled smoke tinged with blood and brimstone. "I need those who will not back down, who are willing to get in the mud and the blood and the beer to get the job done."
The matron held up a red apple. "Take the apple, accept my offer. Be my Hell Storm to your brother's Hell Knight."
"Your offer humbles me," Surscee said. "It does not matter if my brother took your offer, I am Oathsworn to Lady Nakteti the Traveler. My duty is clear, it lies with my sworn liege."
"But what of your duty to your people?" the matron asked. "What of your duty to humanity?"
"I represent humanity wherever I go. Shall my actions, my decisions, lead the people's of the galaxy to believe that humanity are oath breakers? That our word, our bond, our oath, carries no meaning other than to further our own aims and goals? That we will abandon them, no matter what oaths we swear?"
The matron was silent.
"I am tempted by your offer, but I must, respectfully, refuse," Surscee said.
"Very well," the matron said. She blew on her fingertips and the apple dissolved. She stood up, taking a moment to smooth her skirt and tug the cuffs of her sleeves.
"You would have made an excellent Hell Storm," the matron said, exhaling smoke.
When it cleared, she was gone.
Surscee closed her eyes and heaved a great breath.
"I have passed the test, I hope," she said softly.
Only the dripping of water in the mist answered her.

2023.06.07 02:14 howeudoing I Have a Spare Tire Solution for Honda Accord Hybrids

I found a bunch of spare tires at a local salvage yard that specializes in Hondas. I bought them all. Now selling them for the same $100 I paid for them. They will fit the rear wheel of a Honda Accord / Accord Hybrid with 19 inch OEM wheels. Won't fit the front wheels because of the larger rotors and brake calipers. If you get a flat in your front tire, you would have to move one of the rear wheels to the front and put the spare on the rear. Honda does not recommend a donut size spare on the front wheel of a front wheel drive car anyways. Pickup in the Los Angeles area. DM for pics and details. Sold 4 already, 2 left. Don't miss out.

Just picked up a 1978 Honda cb400 Hawk, she runs nicely and the paint is still beautiful. Image. However, shops are telling me they won't touch her because they can't get their hands on Honda parts this old? Did I bite off more than I can chew here? 2023.06.06 23:29 KratosXCV Characters that beat JP

If you're tired of losing to JP, I've learned the past few days of playing JP. Characters with good mobility like Cammy, Kimberly, Honda, Blanka, Sim and even Marissa (not good mobility) give him trouble. So I recommend pick either of these characters up.

2023.06.06 23:28 Tycho-Celchu Is a gravel bike with road tires the right bike for me?

Hi all, I've been riding a Masi Uno for 10 years. Its in rough shape and my 35 year old knees can't handle a single speed anymore. My riding is mostly rec, 1-2 hour evening rides and or longer weekend rides on roads and paved walking paths with lots of hills.
I've been looking at a Cannondale Synapse alloy, but nowhere in my city (Edmonton) carries them and it would cost me a pretty penny to ship them in (they carry the Carbon but it's a bit out of my budget). At my local bike shop (which caters more towards mountain biking) the rep was trying to sell me on a Topstone alloy instead. His reasoning being that, being a northern city, our roads are garbage(he's right), covered dirt and mud, and filled with potholes. Even our (limited) dedicated bike lane system is filled with potholes and gravel most of the time. The state of my Masi basically backs this up, it's pretty beaten up after a decade of our roads here. Is this the right path to go? I don't see myself riding off pavement basically ever. We have a pretty extensive trail system in our river valley and it's basically all paved.
Is it worth it to buy a rugged gravel bike and throw a set of road tires on it? Or am I better of just sticking with my original plan and getting a road bike?

2023.06.06 23:06 Capdavil Buy a car or ride this out

I’ve got a 2003 Honda Accord with 147k miles on it that I quite like. She’s not a looker (cosmetic damage to front and rear bumber), but she gets me around faithfully and up until recently was fairly low maintenance. In the last year my car has had some more costly repairs (replaced all tires, replaced brake pads and discs, rusted control arm). It’s also recently needed another potentially costly repair.
My car recently got a salvage repair title after a vandalism incident, which gave me about 5k that I want to put toward a new vehicle when this car finally kicks the bucket.
Essentially, should I hang onto this car and keep repairing it as the need arises (around 800/year) or start looking to finance a newer 10-15k vehicle with the 5k (I can put a total of 7.5k down for a down payment).

2023.06.06 22:04 Southern-Falcon5743 Mitigating Loss

Note sure if this is the right sub, but looking for advice.
We bought a fixer upper 2 years ago with high hopes of fixing it up. It was a 1970’s home that was neglected. We had an inspection and most things seemed “cosmetic”. We paid $550k and put about $150k into it. Our mortgage is $280k.
We couldn’t hire pros for a lot of stuff because they were so booked up in our area they wouldn’t even give us quotes. So we hired for parts that we really can’t DIY (electrical, plumbing, a couple specific small projects) and did a lot more ourselves then we expected to. Didn’t think it would be that hard to get trades but I guess we were naive. We also probably put money in the wrong things if we were going to sell in short order, but that wasn’t initially the plan.
Anyway we started out with a budget and things snowballed. We did a lot, it looks much better, but to me - it’s obvious the parts we weren’t too good with (like drywall mudding). We also ran out of steam and are just tired and have a lot of small unfinished projects on the go.
So what we’re left with now are mortgage payments that doubled, the market has cooled, we have some unfinished projects and no more money to pay for things. We’ve depleted both our contingency funds and emergency funds with some things that have come up. Now our A/C has broke and we don’t have a repair budget for it. We could live without A/C for a bit but we foresee a lot of other upcoming things going soon that we weren’t able to get to and think it’s time to cut our losses and sell.
At this point we’re trying to mitigate losses and aren’t sure the best route to take. We’re debating selling it in “as is” condition (if that’s a thing) or trying to rush and basically flip the remaining issues.
We found asbestos in our home during the process. We remediated the largest portion but the basement still has some in one main room in the popcorn ceiling and stucco walls. It is a finished basement.
Is it better to have the asbestos removed and the basement room left unfinished? Or better to just disclose the asbestos and (I assume) take a pay hit?
Also, are we better to replace the A/C before selling? We don’t have a budget for these things but could temporarily finance or borrow for them if it makes sense.
Those are the two biggest things that are currently left. The remaining things we can quickly try and finish if it’s worth it (probably is) and hope nothing else goes in the meantime. I’ve received mixed advice from local realtors so far.

2023.06.06 21:12 Due_Welcome_8802 1st gen Sequoia vs GX470

Hello all,
Just got an insurance payout for my unfortunately totalled 2005 lexus gx470. I paid a lower price than current market will allow for the same car (CA) and while the insurance payout would still cover the cost of another like model, I am considering going with a much cheaper 1st gen 4wd sequoia. There are some major changes here, but bottom line they are both full frame toyotas with the ultra reliable 4.7l v8. Last one was an amazing rig, and frankly I can't see myself moving away from Toyota trucks.
Must haves: 4wd with low range (I mud and snow, its fun), 3 rows of seats, and a penchant for going well over 250k miles.
Pros of another GX: leather, 5speeds vs 4, a backup camera, bluetooth, a center locking diff, built in Japan (some say higher build quality on land cruisers and GXs vs sequoia and tundras built in US.)
Pros of a sequoia: it's 5k cheaper, less miles (150k vs 200k), seats 1 more person, easier to source parts in CA.
Both have had belt replaced recently, both have a clean carfax..... I guess my question is, is 5k worth the few extra features? Or in this economy is buying a similar but far cheaper car more worthwhile..
For reference, I have about $25k to my name atm. The GX would shrink that by half, the sequoia by a quarter. I need a truck with room, and I don't want to settle for a less reliable brand.
I think the only other cars I would consider would be an FJ80 land cruiser, or (shudders) I GUESS a Honda pilot or ridgeline. Highlander would be an option, but I don't want to match the Mrs. (08 highlander hybrid)

2023.06.06 20:46 TrailMAC Cinturato M 40 vs 45mm

I currently am running gravel king SS+ 38mm that gets me through everything but the roughest stuff and occasional mud.
I have a spare wheelset and have heard a lot of good things about the Pirelli Cinturatos. I feel like the Hs are too similar to my SS+ so definitely want to get the more knobby Ms.
Should you always go as wide as possible? 38mm seems like the sweet spot but I found out I could use a little more traction and cushion but realize the Pirellis are going to be a much beefier tire and 40mm would be more than enough.
I ask 40v45 because alot of riding is on road as well so I’m worried about rolling resistance and rotational weight. I also live in a wet place and plan to ride in alot of mud and 45mm is the max clearance and don’t want issues with mud rubbing and making it unrideable.

2023.06.06 20:02 AllKorean Honda Dealership Pricing

I have a “2019 Honda Insight Ex” (roughly 95k miles) my maintenance menu coded me A1237, looked up the codes, called the dealership I usually go to and their prices are on the higher side. $500 for transmission oil flush/change, $70 for oil change, $25 for tire rotation. For now I setup an appt to reserve a spot
(I got a brake fluid flush/change elsewhere because honda charge way to much, also new tires where I was quoted $1200 for, mavis did 4 new tires and brake for $650)
The second Honda dealership I called quoted me $210 for transmission flush, 80$ for oil change and $30 for tire rotation. Far cheaper than my regular.
The question I have is, is it wrong for me to go to a different dealer because it’s cheaper? Would they get offended?

2023.06.06 19:31 eisssac traveling in winter through upper midwest

my friend and I are planning a trip that will have us passing through the upper United states (Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana) in DecembeJanuary. We have gotten mixed advice from friends who have done this route before, not total discouragement in traveling during that season but certainly some warning.
I’m wondering if anyone has an advice or anecdotes to share about this sort of drive. I know some roads in those states close - does anyone know more about this? Or any routes to take or to avoid? Any good places to sleep for the night?
For reference we will be driving an Honda Insight (2001, gen 1) with snow tires and I’ve planned it out that none of our days are over 5hours of driving. We will be taking it slow.
Thanks all :)

2023.06.06 19:14 mianrous Kia seltos 23/24

We're looking at trading in our Honda pilot for a seltos (the Honda is getting old and terrible on gas... And just bigger than we need, I am tired of not fitting in parking spots here). I'm struggling with what to do though. Two different dealerships appraised the pilot at $22-23000 so we'd be putting that back into the new car. I've been looking at either a loan on the rest, paying cash (using line of credit since it's interest is lower) or leasing for 4-5 years. We generally keep our family car newer to deal with better reliability and safety features, we've never leased before though... But we really could use as low of payments as possible currently. We have no other debt other than a mortgage and don't want to add too much to that so we can work on building savings more. I'm just looking for thoughts and opinions on what others would choose to do in this situation. Ideally we'd want to stay under $10k extra if it was line of credit route. But now I'm thinking leasing might work for us if we take cash for the trade in and use that against the payments?
I think my head is spinning too much to decide anymore lol and also really struggling between the 2023 and 2024 as we're trying to keep payment low while still getting the features we want (at the least we want EX trim). And I'm sad the power lift gate is only for ex premium in 24'.
FYI we're in Canada!

4-5 millimeters of clearance on the front wheel (45c Pirelli tire), 2-3 millimeters of clearance on the rear wheel (40c Pirelli tire).
Devil on one shoulder: I’ve gone on two rides and it rides fantastic. I don’t bike in mud and I doubt this tread will pick up many stones.
Angel on the other shoulder: You’re being too aggressive with the fit. Go back to 35mm (at least on the rear).
