2023.04.01 21:48 LammasuRex Can I get some opinions on if this OC is a himbo.

This "no relevancy" thing is a godsend. I've been wondering where I could ask this.
So anyway, he's a 20something superhero. He's a speedstegadgeteer called Quick-Fix. He's a metagenius so he's not traditionally stupid, he's just very naive and pretty nonfunctional as an adult. He was deliberately raised that way by his dad because he didn't want him to be distracted from superheroing. His girlfriend has to show him how to open a checking account. And when he does start managing his own money he buys that clown hotel in Vegas because he loves clowns. So dose this qualify as a himbo?

2023.04.01 21:48 Cultic_Planet Which show to go to?

I’ve been given the option to go to either the August 1st in Salem, VA or Annapolis, MD. Crown is one of my top corps so I was leaning toward Salem but Annapolis has Blue Devil and Cadets. This would be my first drum corps show and I’m struggling which one id rather attend. I know it should boil down to which corps mean more to me but I’d love advice on which show would be me a better drum corps experience.

2023.04.01 21:47 StevesHair_1986 I played "Je te Laisserai des Mots" on a piano that is over a hundred years old (see body text for details)

I played
I found this wonderful piano in Estes Park, Colorado in the famous Stanley Hotel. The piano once belonged to Fiona Stanley, F. O. Stanley's wife. F. O. Stanley has founded the Stanley hotel from his massive fortune, and , because his wife gave up showbiz to move out to the Rocky Mountains for her poor husband's health, he had made her a recreation concert hall with this piano. The keys were real ivory, so I had to wipe my hands with wet wipes before playing.

2023.04.01 21:44 Paper-First Ontario Airport - cheaper to Uber/Lyft offsite and walk?

When flying out of LAX I've found that it's WAY cheaper to UbeLyft to a nearby hotel and walk into the airport (like, $40 v. $110). Has anyone done something similar at ONT? I've never flown through ONT and am coming in on a late flight and need to get to Santa Ana... is there anyplace within walking distance to catch a ride, or is there not the fare surcharge like there is for LAX? TIA!

2023.04.01 21:37 semperfidelisnn0938 A Little Q Humor at My People's Expense, to Lighten the Mood

I hope the moderators can see the value in a little humor, mostly at the expense of my Essex County, New Jersey upbringing in the Jewish faith. If you are a Catholic, consider what follows and perhaps, given the season, write "The Twelve Stations of the Indictment" or some such.
If you are the redditor who reported your concern for me the other day when I, expressing my extreme loneliness at having returned from prison to find in the world in such a state and my family succumbing to Q, please know I talked to someone at the VA and you may have saved my life that night. Thank you, kind friend.
This is a little long, but it's fun, especially if you grew up where I did.
Tell your Q you called 1.866.JUDAISM, in order to join the persecution of their savior along with us, and got the following:
Thank you for contacting Judaism. Due to an unusually high interest in our faith, due in part to the upcoming crucifixion of the Messiah of the Q's, our second in two millennia, no one is available to answer your call right now, but we want to thank you for your interest in Judaism, the monotheist's favorite faith and the only one with a people Chosen by G-d. Your questions, comments, and concerns are important to us, please continue to hold. Your call is number (THREE) in queue to be answered.
Please listen closely to the following options as our menu has changed.
For a dial by terrible, whiny, phlegmy sounding name directory, press one.
To report someone acting like a schlemiel, press two.
If you've accidentally taken a drink from a well you or a friend has poisoned, press three.
For the latest recipes for matzoh using the blood of Christian children, press four.
If you really think either you, Madonna, or most people who claim such things have any clue about Kabbalah, press five...and then go to Christian Hell.
If you wish to change tribes, or upgrade to Orthodox Platinum, which comes with a free subscription to our online magazine, "Hypochondriac? Shympochondriac! I'm Telling You, I'm Sick. Look, Right Here. Feel This Inflammation. You Tell Me. Is a Healthy Gland Supposed to Feel Like That? Hypochondriac...And Where Did You Get Your Degree, a Grass Hut in Nairobi Mister Big Shot Doctor?" press six.
If you've received a message telling you to invest in nasal spray manufacturers or if you can't tell when your girlfriend reaches completion, and you believe it was an error or would like to order a nailfile for her to drop, press seven.
If you, like I, took your girlfriend's toches last night and would like her to stop complaining about it because it was, after all, your birthday, please press eight to order some little shiksa because good Jewish girls really shouldn't be doing that sort of thing, for shame, Aaron, for shame...you disappoint me, I'm not angry. Okay? Not angry. Calm down. Breathe. Good. Okay? Look, you're so creative and you bring so much good into the world and I just know, because a mother knows these things, call it a sense, that you are going to do great things one day. Right now? After hearing this? I'm just disappointed. You should know better by now, bubee. Really. You should know better. That's the sort of things those Catholic girls do. Okay? Not your girlfriend. Nicole is from Livingston and her family is very active in Beth Am. You know what they call that town? Livingstein. Girls from a place like that with a family so active in the faith and the community don't do...well that. You know who would do that sort of thing? Meadow Soprano or that little friend of hers, Hunter. Meadow Soprano? She was on The Sopranos. The television show. No, it wasn't about a choir, Mister Weisenheimer. It was a show about mobsters. Like Mister Pinto and those boys of his, who are they fooling? Waste management. Yes, Aaron. He's a mobster. Everybody knows that. Everyone in that business is, oh but don't say anything to them because your sister does ballet with one of their cousins. Anyway, put down your phone for a second, wipe the dust off of that television, you know the thing your father and I still watch and the thing we paid thousands of dollars for so it could collect dust on the wall of your room like some Rembrandt at MOMA and watch it instead of looking for hours on end at little girls undressing and dancing on Tik Tak. Tik Tak. That app you're always looking at. Tik Tok? Are you sure? I've been calling it Tik Tak. No, I watched something about this and like five senators called it Tik Tak. Well, good. They should ban it. But we're off topic. Meadow Soprano was a girl played by Jamie Lynn Ziegler. No. Z-I-E...doesn't that thing have autocorrect? Use it. Okay. Anyway, Jamie was a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice, she actually ended up on Broadway. I saw her once. Divine. No, I didn't take the PATH in. Because it smells, bubee. Like pee. We took a car service, why does it matter how we got there? Ugh. Not angry. Not angry. You just frustrate me sometimes with these questions. Anyway, saw her live. Orchestra seats. So much talent. Anyway, Meadow Soprano, or better yet, that little friend of hers, you could just tell by looking at them, that is the kind of girl you do something like that with. Okay? Not Nicole. Not anyone from JCC, not those girls you meet at camp, have fun, that's why we send you, but I don't need details, I'm your mother, I'm here if you want to talk about it or if you have any questions but, please, for my sake, ask your father or one of his brothers, but not Uncle Andy he couldn't handle that sort of thing right now, don't ask, or even Rabbi Krauss, he's not a priest after all, and, finally, bubee, none of the girls from synagogue. Nicole? She's one of us and we don't do that sort of thing. Ask your father. I know what he does with that so-called secretary of his and it's fine. Okay? He thinks I don't know but I know what with those outfits she's always wearing and all that makeup. She might as well hang a big, neon sign around her neck that says "Open for Business. Parking in Rear." That's right I know all about these things. But that's not why we're talking., now is it? Again. Not angry. Just disappointed. Now, come on, I went to Harold's. No, not that one, the good one in Teaneck. You should see the counters at that other one. Haven't been cleaned since Moses ate there, right? Now let me make you something. You'll feel better after you eat, I promise.
If you've caught your death because you went out dressed like that, and in this, press nine.
If you no longer wish to receive emails and text alerts about days when we will crash planes into buildings, please go to www.melgibsonwasrightaboutus_mishpocha.com/zog. That's, www.melgibsonwasrightaboutus all as one word, then an underscore then mishpocha...as in the whole mishpocha will be attending seder except your brother but he sends his blessings and those from that wife of his and the little ones she's been blessed with, oh his oldest just got accepted at Julliard, I know, right, now if she would ever just finally grow out of that emo phase she's been in for what, a decade, but you had your phases too, even if you refuse to admit it now, I remember when your counselor called me from Camp Winola and told me you had bought a shirt with a picture of Che Guevara on it and were sitting around the fire singing the Adomalon in it, plus the fact that you didn't understand the irony of buying a communist t-shirt from a corporation then wasn't so bad because you were young and we all go through phases, it's part of growth, or so says Rabbi Krauss and he's so learned, it was embarrassing back then, yes, but not so embarrassing to me as it is now when you're still preaching that schlock to your friends in the Green Party while billing your clients $300 an hour, which is fair, in that trans-vaginal mesh class action because someone beat you to that goldmine with that contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, oh isn't that horrible, but it's good someone is going to hold them to account, we're so proud of you, anyway he sends his blessings from their place down in Freehold and you know him he never really followed the faith too closely, really puts the "ish" in Jewish, that one...Dot com, then a backslash and then the letters Z-O-G. Click on the unsubscribe button and then enter your email and mobile number. Please allow nine to eleven business days for your request to be processed.
Please continue to hold. Your estimated wait time is far less time than it's been since you called your mother and you know how she worries, you really should be better to her, she who gave you life and carried you in her womb for nine months with that back of hers.
To leave a message, please complain neurotically or cough for three minutes, you should really get that checked out, you sound terrible, or until you hear the tone.
Once again, we'd like to thank you for your interest in Judaism, our people, our traditions, and the wars we cause. Please continue to hold.

2023.04.01 21:31 chopchoppopadop 4 months post op: osseous sliding genioplasty 11mm

1 day pre-op
Early morning It is raining cats and dogs. I wake my husband up to take me to the airport. I arrive in Madrid and now I have a few hours to kill before I can check into my airbnb. I eat half a chicken pita and coffee before 13:00, since I need to fast for 6 hours before my consultation and tests.
Afternoon I check into the airbnb - it’s COLD. I message the host about the heating and apparently it comes on later.
Evening I am at the hospital and they send me from one place to the other and finally I get to the right place. Consultation, blood tests etc. A lot of waiting. I am STARVING.
Late Evening After everything I scuff down the apple and half pita that I had left in my handbag. Tired, I return to the airbnb and it’s freezing. Try to take a shower and the water is cold. Can’t recover from a surgery here.
Operation day
06:30 I wake up and can’t feel my feet. Too late for breakfast. I just eat an apple and gulp down copious amounts of water.
07:00 Fast starts. I get ready, book a hotel and call airbnb. The customer service is amazing and they give me a full refund.
11:00 Hotel let’s me check in early after I explain that I will not be able to check in after surgery. I buy some liquids and lay out towels, pajamas etc. The bed is really comfy and the room is nice (and warm).
13:00 I am at the hospital, someone misplaced me for an hour. We go through the final steps. It goes fast. At around 15:00 I am in the surgery room.
?? I remember waking up in the ICU/recovery room and later in the private room. The doctor and anesthesiologist sit with me in my room and slowly help me get dressed after she takes out the catheter. She combs my hair because there is a lot of blood in it. I get sick twice. It’s around 01:30 and I had no idea it was this late. I message a quick “am ok” to my husband and mom, eventhough I don’t feel okay at all. I feel in disbelief that I am being discharged now. My hip is THROBBING and it is impossible to put weight on my right leg. A taxi picks me up for the 600m to the hotel and he stops at the pharmacy to pick up medicine for me. I tip him well because he had to help me get out of the car and into the hotel room. He also stopped because I got sick again.
The rest of the night is not friendly to me. I needed to wee so I got up from the bed, but all I remember is when I woke up I was moaning on the floor, totally blacked out, meaning I had fell hard. I think I just napped on the floor after that and in some miraculous way got back to the bed eventually.
1 day post op
09:00 Next morning and I am doing a bit better, I hear my heartbeat in my ears the whole time. I am in and out of sleep and listening to my book. Getting out of bed is a massive struggle and pain due to the hip bone graft. I sip on protein shakes and juice. Eventually I ask the doctor about the noise in my ears. She comes by to the hotel and takes my vitals, she says everything is fine under the circumstances, my blood pressure will pick up again then I will feel better again, because I lost a lot of blood when they did the bone grafting.
Rest of the day is a blur. Called the airline to ask for assistance because I can’t even walk 10 feet without feeling like passing out. The lady was so patient because I can barely talk. I muster the energy to wash my hair over the tub, because I don’t think they let people fly that can’t walk, talk well and with blood in their hair. Pink water everywhere, I slump into the bed exhausted wet hair and all.
2 days post op
7:00 I get up and take 45 min to get ready and pack, I only came with a backpack. I almost didn’t need anything as I was just sleeping most of the time. I am glad I packed my own towel to sleep on because there was blood and the hotel linens are white. The trip back feels like a mountain in front of me.
I am astounded that the operation coordinator said I should be able to fly home today, because I feel like death warmed up. It was probably when she thought I was still coming with someone.
Once at the airport I take about 20 mins to find the assistance booth and almost cry from relief when I get there. From there on they make sure I get where I need to be. On the flight I get a few looks because I guess I don’t really look sick, especially with a mask on that covers most of the swelling and bruising. I puke twice into a barf bag. The flight was very empty. My head is ON FIRE.
I didn’t think there would be assistance at the arrival airport because I’m not even sure what I booked, but thank goodness as I’m limping out of the plane a wheelchair appears and the man behind it asks me “Ms X?”. I almost cry again which is weird because I haven’t been this emotional in a long time. Husband is waiting for me at arrivals.
Finally at home and I am relieved and very very exhausted. I just sleep from here on out. Some time during the night I wake up and take a shower. I sleep with a cold cloth on my forehead, because this headache is out of this world.
As a side note: My husband is freaked out. He says I look like another person. I know he isn’t trying to upset me but he looks horrified. I’m not sure how to deal with this so I try to let it go. I look like 100 bees stung my face. At least my phone recognizes me.
3 days post op
I wake up at 6 with master headache. Somewhere during the night I moved to the couch to sleep upright and to ice my head with icewater and cloths. Maxxed out on prescription meds. I don’t want to over medicate but I can’t deal with this so my husband takes me to the hospital. I ask them to please just get rid of the headache but they insist on a CT because I passed out on the floor 2 nights ago. They put me on a pain drip which doesn’t work, make me wait 1.5 hours for a CT in a very bright waiting room (could have been worse). Afterwards the doc says he doesn’t want to put me on another drip, he just gives me medication to drink. Not happy with this as the pain is at the same level as when I arrived, and at this stage even keeping liquids down is difficult. At least my brain is okay according to the CT. When we return home I continue to ice my head and I just try to sleep. I have the weirdest scariest dreams.
4 days post op
The headache continues throughout today, with ups and downs. It is more bearable than the previous day. We have the most uneventful Christmas and finally in the evening we watch a Christmas movie together. We eat a very soft spaghetti bolognaise. Chewing is a mission and I need to clean my mouth every hour, doctor’s orders. Yesterday was the first day I ate solid food and I think that helped a lot with the dizziness. (Different doctors have different guidelines, mine’s were soft foods like pasta, risotto, liquids, white fish, eggs etc.)
5 days post op
Horrible night and the headache is back with a vengeance at 06:00. I take more medicine and fall asleep again. When I wake up again at 10:30 I am desperate. I read up all the ways to get rid of headaches. I put on my warm robe and boots, and I put a cold, wet cloth around my neck and sit on the balcony. It’s -2c so the fresh air hits hard and keeps the cloth cold. I drink a cup of coffee with a straw and the maximum combined allowed dose of pain meds. 30 mins later and pure bliss as the headache has gone. Then all of a sudden I feel good. I am actually a little worried to be feeling this normal all of a sudden.
19:00 Note since this morning: everything is in check and haven’t had pain meds since this morning. I feel like a whole different person. My prayers have been answered. I was able to shower, wash my hair again, cook dinner (in slow motion), make the bed etc. But still very careful not to exert myself.
I mustered up the courage to take off the plaster from my hip. It is VERY bruised. The cut is long and thin, I think I will be able to make it disappear with some tlc once it is completely healed. I wasn’t expecting it to be this long.
Day 5 Notes:
Cleaning teeth is a mission and the first 3 days I was just rinsing my mouth with water every 3-4 hours, and always directly after eating. I have been flossing 2-3 times a day since day 2.
Still drinking with straws
I put on a lot of vaseline on my lips to prevent it from drying out, as I can’t close my mouth “relaxed” yet. I think it helped to an extent.
Huge mistake practically skipping breakfast the morning of the surgery, also because the night before I didn’t pay a lot of attention to dinner. I think if I had more fuel it would have been a little easier.
7 days post op
Pretty uneventful, the bruise on my hip is a little wild, the swelling on my face has gone down tremendously.
Walking is still a little difficult, but a lot better.
——————
The doctor calls quite regularly to check up and I am very happy that I chose to go with him at the end. He and the anesthesiologist are amazing.
—————— For some reason I thought this was going to be a lot easier. Maybe it was because the surgery coordinator said I can go home 2 days post op which made me believe it would have been okay by then, or maybe it was because most posts I’ve seen about it seemed to have been somewhat easy. I think I definitely did not pay attention to how painful the bone graft was going to be. I would NOT recommend doing this alone. The doctor also told me once I was there he is surprised that I came alone after all. Before I went, I asked the operation coordinator if I must sleep in the hospital one night, because I am coming alone, and she told me I will be fine alone because I am very close to the hospital, and a lot of patients stay in that specific hotel to recover. In hindsight I wish I would have insisted on sleeping in the hospital that one night.
——————
Biggest 3M: post-op concern is lip incompetence and some soft tissue asymmetry. Hopefully this clears up between months 3-6. Otherwise I will enquire about a revision or a mentalis resuspension.
Biggest 4M concern: still slightly worries about the lower lip, but it has improved drastically. This is the first month I am also not on the fence about having had this operation and starting to like the results
Tl;dr operation was harder than expected, mental rollercoaster until month 4, only liked results by month 4, still slightly worried about lip competence (it’s getting better), still drooling a lot at night

2023.04.01 21:28 DesignerWedding7443 Woman I've been talking to online for ages suddenly said "Let's be friends." What gives?

Rare for me to take an interest in someone but finally found one. We were talking lots every day for a few weeks, lots of flirting, even sexting that she instigated. All in all, she was keen.
We were due to meet in a couple of days, she even made a reservation at a restaurant near her place and wanted me to get a hotel there.
Suddenly today she said "Let's be friends. I also want to cancel the date."
Any ideas?

2023.04.01 21:21 FlyPenFly Life Support - When the Power Goes Out and other Emergencies

I've recently been doing a lot more research into power outages as I stock my tanks with expensive torches. With severe weather events and fires only increasing where I live, I think it's prudent to prepare for when the lights go out for extended periods or if I need to evacuate for a number of days. I'm writing this out in the hope that it can help others save their livestock in case the very probable event of power outages strikes you. The most important thing is to have a plan and strategy of what you're going to do.
FLOW
I run the latest Ecotech MP10s on my main tank with Nemo wide flow adapters, they're positioned near the waterline on opposite ends. If main pump fails or stops, the MP10s are on Ecotech battery backup systems and will keep gas exchange going. You want to make sure your powerheads are positioned in such a way that if the power goes out, they can keep surface agitation vigorous. I've replaced the lead acid batteries with LiFePo4 (Lithium Phosphate) which will give them a few days of run time. There are plenty of options and guides here. IMO, Flow is the most important thing to keep running: bacterial action for the nitrate cycle, waste removal for coral, and oxygen exchange for fish cannot happen without flow. Lack of flow will kill a tank in a few hours.
TEMPERATURE
If the ambient temperature for where you live goes below 72F or above 80F at any point during the day or night, you need some sort of method for temperature control.
Cooling is a lot easier, as you can simply run fans on your tank. I do not recommend running chillers in an extended outage as they consume refrigerator amounts of power. An Inkbird temperature controller or similar is a fantastic way to temperature control your tank. I have my heaters and fans on tanks without an Apex. Keeping a tank cool with an inkbird and fans is very easy and low power, just plug into a backup power source and you can probably go days. (power sources at bottom)
Heating is a lot harder because no matter what, it's a lot of power or manual labor. If you live where it's very cold and the power is out, you can try wrapping your tank in a heat reflecting blanket to try to insulate and retain as much heat in the tank as possible. If you have a gas stove, a propane camping stove, etc you can also boil water, put it in a Nalgene or other heat compatible bottle and float it in the tank to act as a heating source. You will constantly have to cycle through bottles until the power is back. I wouldn't recommend it with ziplock bags or the sort as they will probably melt or release who knows what. The best option is to keep your heating going through one of the backup power sources. One thing to note, I have noticed that the newest Neotherm Pros and AquaEl heaters use a different possibly more efficient heating strategy. They don't go full blast to their power ratings but scale up and down in wattage depending on the demands of the tank. This may be a power saver.
POWER SOURCES
Aquarium specific batteries
Icecap (Coralbox) and Ecotech all offer ancient lead acid battery sources. These can last from a few hours to a day or two as the pumps go into low power mode automatically. You're much better off replacing the lead acid battery with a LiFePo4 battery as it has much higher energy density and is very tolerant of several deep cycles and service life longevity.
Generator
If you have a whole house generator running off natural gas piped into your home, it must be nice being God's favorite. If you're like the rest of us, I would invest in a propane or dual fuel generator because propane doesn't go bad nor do you have to do fuel shut off procedures and stabilize your gas. It's also very easy to find propane tanks pretty much anywhere. Since this is typically for emergency use, I would go with the one where you have to think about it the least. The newest generators are relatively quiet but if you have jerk face HOAs like I do, they might fine you for use and harass you about it. You might want to claim you need it for medical eqpt such as dialysis, CPAP machines, medical monitoring eqpt, etc. If they demand proof, cite HIPA or get kidney disease or get your fish labeled as specially trained service fish. I'm not a lawyer though. You can also build noise cancelling housings for a generator, just make sure whatever your do, don't let the carbon monoxide get into your dwelling, at least have an alarm. If you can't have a personal use small generator (apt/condo) then I would skip to high capacity batteries.
Computer UPS
Almost useless, even the biggest most expensive systems still use lead acid and will last you an hour to a couple hours. Some people do replace the batteries with LifePo batteries but it does require careful wiring and resoldering. If you already know how to do this, you don't need this guide, I hope you don't set your house on fire.
High Capacity LifePo4 Batteries (Solar Generators)
I cannot stress enough that if you go this route, you need to go with Lithium Iron Phosphate and not the much more common Lithium Cobalt Manganese chemistries. LiFePo4 batteries are slightly more expensive but they'll last you much longer in terms of service life and are generally more tolerant of abuse. They're also less likely to go critical and start a nearly un-extinguishable fire in your house. Personally, I have EcoFlow River 2 and Delta 2 batteries permanently hooked up to my tanks but I make sure to drain the batteries once a month to reset the BMS (battery management system) so that it keeps their state of charge accurate. All batteries are prone to drifting calibrations unless you reset the BMS in this way. For a 50 gallon tank, I would start with two 500wh rating batteries. If you only hook up heating/fans/flow to them, it should keep you going for at least half a day unless your heating demands are very high. You can charge these batteries in your car if you don't have a generator so keep 2 per tank so you can swap them out. Charging in the car is limited to around ~100w so make sure your socket and car allows for that. The more batteries the better and if you live somewhere with a lot of sunlight, you can get 200w panels online for less than $200 each and they hook in directly to the batteries. There are also extensive DIY battery bank systems you can build and many YT guides on how to get that done.
Personally, I use the batteries and have a generator that will recharge the battteries as needed. This gives me several hours to get the generator up and I do not need to constantly run the generator which saves on gas and noise. The batteries charge very fast. If you have enough battery capacity, you can also just run solar panels to charge during the day and the batteries can last through the night.
EVACUATION
If you have to evacuate by car due to a wild fire, tornado, riots, etc and want to save your precious corals or fish, one method I've been thinking of works pretty well that I used to move states. Get as many five gallon buckets as you need from homedepot/lowes along with their lids. Drill a small air hole in the lids. Buy a USB powered air pump to keep the buckets oxygenated and provide some minimal amounts of flow. It would be preferable to have some live rock or bacteria media in there if you have fish. Keep the car's internal temperature around 75 or 78. Make sure to plug the USB into a high capacity power bank and plug that into car power. If you have delicate coral, I would try to protect the corals with cut out plastic cups like when coral shippers sent you coral. If you have to stay at a friend's or a hotel for several days, just pick up a cheap temporary tank at Petco or a rigid container at Homedepot and make sure you bringa pump and heater to keep things alive.
Whatever you do though, have a plan and be prepared with the items you need so you're not struggling to find things when the worst happens and the bomb timer starts for your livestock. If you're super strapped for cash, at a minimum, I would invest in:
That'll at least keep a tank sort of alive for a while.

2023.04.01 21:19 hemim0rphite Top Secret clearance with Cuba trip

Hi all, I got a DOE job offer for which i need a Q (top secret) clearance. I’m mostly not too worried except for a 30 day trip i took to Cuba in 2019. I went under the OFAC “support for the Cuban people” license, bought a visa, and used my US passport. I stayed away from all banned groups (govt hotels, govt restaurants, etc) and stuck to the license by not doing touristy stuff like going to the beach. We engaged in several well documented activities like cooking and dancing classes, but (especially towards the end of the trip) a lot of the activities could not be officially documented, like having dinner with locals and “so and so’s cousin taking us to his farm.” Technically i think that’s still legal according to the treasury website, but I’m worried the security clearance folks will have a field day with all that. I’ve got photos, a diary, and some receipts, but most of it is just my word. Anyone have experience with this and/or want to rate my chances of passing?

2023.04.01 21:18 ContributionOdd7841 Higher Level Review Success Rates

In my last post on here I talked about the issue with a C&P exam and decided to go with a higher level review after consulting with a VSO. For context, I submitted a mountain of documentation for a supplemental claim; however CP examiner didn't have of my stuff (private medical records, nexus, DBQ, etc) and then I received a denial letter a month later. After asking this subreddit, I decided to contact a VSO and get an HLR.
I've seen a lot of posts on here about higher level reviews and it seems like the general consensus is that the timeline for the VA to have an answer is anywhere from 3-6 months. Sometimes longer sometimes shorter.
My question is: For those of you that submitted a higher level review, did you get a favorable or unfavorable outcome? If unfavorable, what actions did you take following that decision? Feel free to include any relevant context info.
