2023.06.07 14:25 bethskw [Meet Report] USAWA HackenDinnie Classic - Albany, KY, USA (690 lb total @ 155 bwt) - overall win & set several records
I beat the men again :) This was a super fun and well-run meet.
photo for cover Background and training
I compete in USAWA, the
US All-Round Weightlifting Association, best known for its many wacky odd lifts. This meet had just two official lifts, the Hackenschmidt Floor Press (a floor press done with the bar at 15" off the ground) and the Dinnie lift (weights in two stacks with ring handles, one heavier than the other, to mimic the famous Dinnie Stones of Scotland). After the competition was over, the organizer held a "record day" where lifters can pick anything they like from the rulebook and attempt to set or break records.
I've been competing in USAWA since 2019 and have been the undefeated women's champ at all the in-person meets I've done--although in many cases I was the only woman competing. Usually men and women are scored separately, but I asked ahead of time if the HackenDinnie organizer would be able to use a formula that combines men's and women's scores. Because, I told him, I'm competing to win. (He said yes.)
Meet prep
The first time I tried the floor press, I was only able to move 75 kilos (about 160 pounds).
u/BenchPauper suggested using the Gillingham bench template to train it, which involved one day each week with a heavy single and backoff sets, and a second day with lighter lifts. After a few weeks I figured out the right grip width and bar placement and was able to hit 85 kilos (about 185 pounds). This remained my 1RM for the rest of training. I deviated from Gillingham in the last few weeks, but it was a solid structure to keep me in practice for most of my training time.
The Dinnie lift I've done before. Back in 2020 I got up to 503 pounds with straps. But in USAWA, no straps are allowed, nor even thumb tape. You just chalk up your hands and go for it. My best without straps had been 418 pounds.
When I trained the Dinnie lift, I kept getting little tweaks and aches and pains. One time I took two weeks off of Dinnie lifting because I was convinced I'd sprained my left ACL. (That's the ACL I tore and had reconstructed many years ago, so it kind of spooked me.) Later I had an issue with my hip. I was kinda bummed about all of this and didn't train this lift as heavy as I would have liked. Fortunately, by the time the meet rolled around everything was feeling better.
I had a total of 11 weeks between my last big weightlifting meet (Masters Nationals in olympic weightlifting) and the HackenDinnie. I did 3 days/week of normal weightlifting training, and 2 days where I practiced these two lifts and a few other lifts that I selected for the record portion. I pulled my last heavy Dinnie lift 8 days out, at about 440 pounds. My heaviest in the whole training cycle had been a hook grip PR at 470. On
u/just-another-scrub's recommendation I bought a pair of Versa Gripps to get in more volume without worrying about my thumbs, but in the end my lower body injuries (or fear thereof) limited me more than my grip.
Meet day
I drove down to Kentucky for this one. The meet was held in Clint Poore's very nice garage gym and he put on an extremely well run meet. I refereed when I wasn't lifting.
The guys at the scoring table called me over to ask what my opener really was on the floor press--maybe it was my handwriting, or maybe they weren't expecting me to open at 180 pounds. Out of 11 people there, I was 4th to open on the floor press. And of 9 people who did the Dinnie lift, I was second-to-last to open. One lifter bumped up his own opener to match mine (430).
The lifts
Hackenschmidt floor press
- 180 pounds - good lift, and set a record in my weight class.
- 185 pounds - had to follow myself. Good lift and an all-time women's national record.
- 190 pounds - I believe I followed myself again. I didn't quite wait long enough for the down command, but got white lights and a warning.
- 200 pounds - 190 moved so easy I knew I had more in me, so I went for the big 2 hundo for a 4th attempt for record. Looking at the video I think I may have even had a bit more.
(This lift is not eligible for world records in our international organization, IAWA.)
Dinnie lift
Had to wait a while to open this one. My hands began to slip on my last warmup at 400, so I made a note to chalk the heck up and to believe in the magic of the taper.
- 430 pounds - good lift and set a record in my weight class.
- 480 pounds - good lift and beats the record in the 70kg weight class. (I had chosen to be in the 75 to make sure I wouldn't have to worry about whether I could beat this number--but here I am beating it anywaay.)
- 500 pounds - good lift and a women's all time national record.
- 510 pounds on a 4th attempt - good lift at a poundage that beats all the IAWA women's world records as well. Sound on for this one!
There are several women who have either lifted the real Dinnie stones or the Rogue replicas, at 734 pounds, so it's not a world best lift. But 510 is higher than any woman's Dinnie lift in our record books.
I also had the second-heaviest Dinnie lift (by raw poundage) of the 9 of us. The only person who lifted heavier than me was a highland games athlete who said he had planned to do 500/550/600 but bumped his attempts when he saw mine. He did 550, 650, and broke 700 off the ground but didn't get a complete lift. I pointed out that a 300+ kg lift is all you need to book an appointment to lift the actual Dinnie stones, so even though the competition was over at that point, everybody supported him to get his qualifying lift in. We loaded 671 pounds, weighed it out and documented the scale weight, and he pulled it to massive cheering.
Results
When age and bodyweight were taken into account, I had the 4th best total on points. Our international org, IAWA, uses a 1.33 multiplier for women when they combine men's and women's scores, so we did the same to determine the overall winner. That turned out to be me.
Honestly, I believe several of the men there were strong enough to beat me, but they weren't as familiar with the lifts and/or underestimated themselves when it came time to choose attempts. I, meanwhile, had been able to train on very similar equipment (I have Dinnie rings at home) and had a strong sense of what attempts would be strategic and doable for me. What can I say, I came to win!
Record portion
One of the first things the meet organizer showed me when I arrived that morning was a foot press he had just gotten. Sort of like a primitive leg press, but the idea is that you just need to break the weights off the supports (no need to fully lock out your legs). I almost couldn't reach the footplate, but with my heeled lifting shoes on I was able to participate.
The foot press had 350 pounds on it when I first gave it a try. I lifted that, and so did a bunch of other folks. Then four more plates got piled on, and we all did 530. Next up, a bunch of the guys did 580. When it was my turn, I said...well, why not 600? So that was my third. And I finished up with a
4th attempt at 700. Felt that one in my shin bones (ew), but no problem lifting it.
I also did a clean rack Sots press (James Lift is the USAWA name). 75, 80, and set a record and a small PR at 85 pounds.
I had planned to do a snatch, but there were no weightlifting bars in the place, and I forgot how weird it is to have a bar without your usual landmarks and to have so much knurling. I scraped up my legs enough on the Sots press that I scratched the idea of snatching with it.
Somewhere in there I took a first attempt at a normal bench press (IAWA/world lift but not USAWA lift). Did 150 pounds, then got distracted and never bothered to come back for more.
It was kind of chaotic, okay? At some point I stumbled across an axle loaded with 275 pounds. Pulled that for a beltless deadlift, because I didn't have my belt on when I impulsively grabbed it and told a ref to watch me. One attempt one record. Moving on.
Last one was an Apollon's Lift, which is just an axle press anyhow. I have not attempted to clean an axle in years and kind of forgot how. I no-contact power cleaned it and then did a split jerk at 115 pounds. Easy. So I went 135 next, couldn't remember how to clean it, managed to get it up to my shoulders continental style, then shit the bed on the jerk. I'm for sure good for more if I practice this someday. But the record book had a blank space on that, so 115 was good enough.
Aftermath
I'm working toward getting into the Century Club of people with 100 or more records. (We love our records in USAWA. The Century Club has many members, in part because you can keep setting different age group records as you get older.) I'm on track to make it this year.
Next meet is USAWA nationals in Missouri in three weeks, so once I recover I'll jump right back into training. I've actually taken two whole days off from training so far, which is weird for me. Stay tuned for the next meet, which includes a Steinborn squat and a hip lift, among other things.
I'm not always sore after meets, but mannn is my body feeling this one. Everything hurts, including some
bruising on the back of my leg and a
superficial skin tear on top of my thumb from hook gripping so hard. Still have
never torn a callus on my palms or fingers. File those suckers down, kids.
PS. I'm lifting the real things someday. Only 224 pounds to go.
Happy to answer questions about joining us at USAWA meets. They're for everyone (my daughter even lifted at Nationals at 6 years old) and are always a blast.

2023.06.07 14:25 Total-Bad-1791 What can I do to get ahead in STEM Grade 11?
To be honest, tumaas lang ng grades ko this school year dahil I wanted to impress my crush at the time HAHAHHA. Siya ang naging main motivation ko buong Grade 10 to the point that I became a try-hard sa acads on top of being delulu.
Nawala na ang crush ko sa kanya, pano na ang mga bursts of motivation ko magpuyat sa pag-aaral š
Ano ang mga need ko i-prepare or pag-aralan to get ahead? Gusto ko mapag-aralan ang fundamentals ng syllabus ng gr 11, pero parang mali-mali yung pinagssearch ko na syllabus.

2023.06.07 14:22 randomgunlover1 Almost at a year and Iām afraid.
When I first started working at Walmart again (I was a cashier as a minor a few months before) I told my mom and myself that I wasnāt going to be there long. It was something to keep me steady and if something better was to come along then I would consider it. True enough I didnāt lie but those other jobs didnāt work out.
By my 3rd month of employment in my department (OPD/OGP/Pickup) I had learned a good amount of information to be able to become one of, if not THE top worker in my department. Every one can see it, even people who work in other departments.
Well itās been 11 months and Iāve basically completely mastered all there is to my job. The problem is Iāve gotten so good at this job that Iām afraid to go to another job that isnāt Walmart. I donāt like Walmart, as a company. To me certain rules and policies are terrible and seem unjust and inhumane. Especially at my store, it feels like a trap. Like a bad record deal. Once you sign to this store itās basically bye bye to any other Walmart because they barely like transferring people or releasing them to other stores.
Anyway, Iām approaching my year mark and itās scary. Iām so good at my job, what if I never get to move up? Every single person in my department knows and can vouch for me being the TOP performing employee. I definitely work beyond my pay grade, just for it to go unnoticed. Problem is I work hard naturally, and I tend to overwork myself to pick up slack from others. I do basically my team leadās job, my job, my coworkers job, and all of it goes to waste because I get nothing out of it but stress, a bad back and knees, and increased anxiety and depression. Itās honestly wild but I cant do anything about it because it feels like I canāt escape. Every other job position at another company doesnāt work out, and itās like I come back to work and things get worse. Ima wrap this up now, thanks for reading.

2023.06.07 14:19 Dohi014 Something was Hunted
I love this sub and noticed it doesnāt have a lot of traction. Bummer. So, I thought Iād add to it, instead of just lurking. Iāve only ever recounted this story a couple times because people donāt believe me. They look at me a little funny and sometimes change the subject.
I lived on a big āfamilyā farm. Before a dispute amongst distant cousins, I could ride my bike to the furthest point (with a road), and still encounter family. One end was my house, the other was my great grandmotherās house, and between us was one big incline that lead up, and up, and to the rest of the hundreds of acres. That was to the left. On the right side was a field with a dried creek, trees growing, and dying along where they once had water. This was the bottom of the property, split by a small dirt road, sandwiched by a main road. In the fall I could see the main road past the field and through the trees.
This was late spring, early summer. I went past my grandmaās house to enjoy a cool ride in the over shaded path. The over grown field, sometimes full of flowers on my right, made it all the better. As soon as I left the hot sun, and the canopy blanketed me, the temperature changed drastically. I was expecting cool and shady, not bitter, and to see my breath. I had this horrible weight to my guts and I was overwhelmed with fear. My fight or flight was screaming at me to get away from there and to not look right.
My fear was overwhelming and I couldnāt help but turn my head as I realized I could hear the dry grass crunching along with my crunching of gravel. The tall grass was bending in a way that was indicative to someone running through it. The grass was between four and five feet high; the possibilities are endless for what it could be. As I swung my head back to make sure I wasnāt going to crash as I increased speed, I realized there was a second ātrailā in the grass. I nearly stomped on my breaks to observe, still panicking, I wondered if maybe I wasnāt the prey in mind. As I came to a halt (I slid a bit in the gravel), an animal screamed, and I noticed the muzzle of a deer (or what looked like it in a glance) break the top of the grass. As a clear scuffle broke out, the grass moving appropriately, I sped off again, not wanting whatever predator to choose me for dessert. I hid at my great grandmaās in one of her outbuildings. Someone had to get me because I was so scared. They didnāt understand and just gave me a hard time for taking their time. It took four years to ride my bike back through there and I only did it the once more out of necessity.
The overwhelming fear and dread I felt was gone as soon as I was past there, out of the canopy, and in the next clearing in the sun. I couldnāt hear any of the noises when I got past even though I was only maybe another 100 yds down. Itās hard for me not think itās supernatural in some way because less than 300 ft away from where the prey was taken, is a cemetery for children. A very small plot; in fact only four are buried there. Iāve also always been told my whole life that the animals I couldāve possibly seen are more seen after dusk. To see them just after 1 pm is fairly odd.
I donāt have any reason to return but, I still shudder and shake at the idea of being alone on that small stretch of dirt road again. The dread I felt that day was suffocating.

Has anyone recently-ish transitioned from top lane to mid? I've been wanting to change roles and really have like 90% of my experience on top lane Irelia. I'm P4 if that matters, and have about 450,000 points on Irelia across my accounts. On top lane I'm used to fighting hard for early turret plates vs tanks, and scaling vs lane bullies. I typically split as much as I can if they can't match me, but I'm not sure how effective that is in Mid.
Grateful for any tips and advice people might have on their experiences before I dive in

2023.06.07 14:14 hatethatmalware iOS 17 will stop your Android friends from ruining your group texts with their green bubbles
https://www.xda-developers.com/ios-17-green-bubbles-wont-hurt-anymore/ In 2014, the iPhone usage rate among teenagers in the United States was close to 70%, and for nearly 10 years, not only has its market share been maintained, but it has continued to grow, with the current iPhone usage rate among teenagers being close to 90%, making it a strong region for iPhones.
Even when looking at all age groups, the iPhoneās market share exceeds half in the US.
From the mid-to-late 2010s, Appleās own ecosystem strategy, which emphasized interconnectivity ahead of Android and Windows PC vendors, hit the mark, and Apple is now dominating not only
the premium phone market but also
the tablet,
watch, and
wireless earphone markets.
Among them, the power of Appleās ecosystem in the United States, where Apple is based, is particularly strong. It cannot be ignored that iMessageās early dominance of messaging platforms, which is the essential purpose of phones, communication, has contributed to this.
It remains to be seen whether this change by Apple will allow Android users in the United States (especially younger generations) to escape from the peer pressure triggered by the resentment of iPhone users due to the āGreen Bubbleā and give some hope to Android phone manufacturers or whether it will instead make Android phone users still āquietlyā suffer while iPhone users become insensitive to Bubble colors and aim to trigger a switch to iPhone. What do you think?

2023.06.07 14:13 Zefirez Don't play support if you got ADHD.
As a 6 years silver stuck support with real life ADHD i finally understood what was the problem.
Contrary to common player problem and it's solution - "Play a simple champ, focus on basics", this advice can backfire if you got ADHD. For someone like me, playing a simple support (alistar main) was killing my ability to learn and climb.
Cow was boring and the role itself was boring. And for ADHD players this means one thing - instant autopilot and seeking engages/combat even when it's absolutely stupid. Doesn't matter, brain wants action, and that is an instinct driven priority that overrides any sane decision making and good macro.
So i moved my ass top and am now one tricking Urgot. And it's working great. While Urgot himself is a low intensity champion he is by no means boring. There are a lot of nuances to his kit and small plays that really make the difference.
Combine that with typical challenges of a solo lane and my brain is happily engaged into every minute of the match and not wondering off anywhere. I don't have to force it to stay in the game (which is extremely draining and what I have to do to win in botlane).
If something is too hard it may impede your learning process. But if it's too simple (a.k.a. boring) the learning process may never take off in the first place.

2023.06.07 14:11 Fearell_Val [PC][2000-2010] 3d Top Down Shooter about a guy (clone I think) fighting robots
Looking for a game I played a long time ago but never finished.
The game starts with an intro of a naked guy bursting from a mechanical cacoon/pod, he immediately gets dragged by some sort of a machine that appears to drag him immediately into combat
The game itself is a top-down 3d shooter where you play his bold guy against an army of robots. The camera is from a bird's eye view but is fixed as you move forward in the level it followed you but you couldn't rotate the camera. Levels were really linear. The majority of the time the enemies just patrolled and stood waiting for you to engage.
The game itself was really grim and dark, the first level was some sort of base with lots of pipes and rain. The second level had snow and/or some mountains. I remember this game being really hard.

2023.06.07 14:11 RedRiam S6 fails the sapphic bechdel test
You don't need to read if you don't really want to listen or if these conversations make you uncomfortable. If you do, I hope you are open and understand where I'm comming from.
I trully think we are in the straightest season since s2, probably even worse because season 2 conversations were rich and full of banter and character building. Not constant checks on who your interested in, between two guys I don't want. Bella the ONLY female li once again has 6 sentences dedicated to her route, between way more were she talks about guys with you and "having fun" with them (And lets be clear I wanted no fun with them since the first episode). You still are unable to make public you just want bella, and multiple characters are pushing you into every other straight route. You can just softly express interest once to her, while Roberto and your current li get like 6 conversations only about their interest in you, having to say where your heads at. And only 1 of them actually lets you say "I'm not interested" but it obvs had to in the shitty code were they need to know "I like someone else" as if I can't just not be into them (most conversations only letting you say I don't know instead of "IM NOT INTO YOU!".
It's exausting to be honest. I mean it already was tiring that most season you have to wait to couple up with a woman (and the forced conversations about them liking other people), and that most put words in your mouth regarding male love interest. But I've seen no season push this hard for being straight (after s5). It's even more noticeable after replaying s4 were stakes were way lower, it wasn't constant cheap drama and interest checks, but many actual conversations building the characters, the lis felt different, and you had the chance to have two way different best friends, and more importantly it took seriously letting you be just into Najuma, and not the many guy options. Now I have to wait for two over the top scenes with two male Lis I'm not interested in, one having been already turned down.
Even if this is a step up from s5, this writers need to really understand that in romance is important to have the chance to decline someones advances and that "no means no". And going back to the sapphic stuff, I want to be able to choose Bella like I was forced to choose "Lewie" even if there is forced drama and the same questionable writing at least let me have it with a character I'm interested in. It would also ironically in the process, be making for ONCE a comitted female li going all out to woo you, which we've never had (we've always been the ones having to take the steps and put in the work to pursue these romances)

2023.06.07 14:09 Yazoyu_Kreed Feel like a loser? Read this.
This is inspired by the post from
u/PM_ME_ZEUS_PICS. I'm a 26 year old IB associate making ~$400k and I graduated from Wharton undergrad after doing the traditional internships. You might think I'm a hardworking success. Couldn't be further from the truth. I got lucky. Tremendously lucky....multiple times.
But you must have worked hard to get into Wharton right? Partially true. I did study my ass off in high school to get a 4.0 and high SAT scores, but I never had the goal of attending an Ivy. My dream school was UCLA and my dream was to own a little coffee shop. I didn't even know the difference between investment banking and the bank teller.
I only applied to Wharton because I simped over a girl (lmao) and wanted to get into her dream college (plot twist...she didn't get in...) I scrambled junior year to sign up for a bunch of extracurriculars to fluff my college app and made up some bullshit inspirational story in my college essay about wanting to get into finance to fund a startup to save the dying bookstore industry LOL.
But you must have worked hard to get your internshps right? HA. No...I partied hard in college. I didn't even think about internships until sophomore year when it was too late. Ended up taking an unpaid internship with a "private equity" fund in the middle of nowhere in California. Turned out to be a solid search fund and gave me enough ammo for junior year recruiting.
Except I fucking sucked at everything finance. I got rejected from like 10 different EBs and BBs. Ended up at a no-name tech boutique IB my junior year after an unprescribed-adderall-fueled few months of recruiting.
There, I perfected the incredibly difficult task of moving logos around pages. I guess I did well enough, because I got the return offer. Ended up turning it down because I wanted the chiller consulting life instead, so went into full-time recruiting senior year.
Except...I fucking sucked at everything consulting. I didn't get a single interview. I got one product management interview and completely bombed it. By that time, EB and BB recruiting was over. So I applied to other boutiques that no one else applied to.
There, I got insanely lucky. I ended up at a boutique that, by some miracle, paid more than the BB/EBs. I took an extra dose of adderall on that superday and killed it.
But now you're an associate. You must have done well right? Eh. I did not hit the ground running as an analyst. I did everything wrong and I was horrible at interpersonal skills on top of that. I survived through...you guessed it, a lot of adderall.
Anyways, I worked hard nevertheless, but I wasn't even supposed to get my 3rd year analyst offer since I didn't seem very interested in the job (which I wasn't at the time...was definitely starting to get burnt out). Luckily, other analysts in my class left and they were stuck with me...
By the way, I also tried PE recruiting, and..you guessed it...I fucking sucked at PE recruiting. So I gave up a few months into it and took the associate promotion instead. I've gotten my life together since then and I now feel a lot more confident in my abilities and where I'm at.
I'm very happy with my life, but I have no delusions. I was tremendously lucky. Everything fell into place at the right time. I stumbled and stumbled and somehow....mission failed succesfully. I may be the exception, but there are more stories out there similar to mine than you would expect. Stop comparing yourself. Success is a LOT of luck. submitted by

2023.06.07 14:05 Emergency-Cake73 Non lactational mastitis not responding to antibiotics
Won't let me attach a picture to the post but I'll put in replies.
I'm 33yrs old female. Weaned my youngest 8 months ago I'm not pregnant.
Last Thursday I noticed a vein(maybe) on my left breast that was dilated and sort of hard. I'm a phlebotomist and I've felt a lot of veins and compared to veins elsewhere on my body this one is harder than normal. It's also lumpy. Other veins are spongy and this one is slightly soft but mostly hard. I remember this vein from when I was lactating and I would get engorged. I'm definitely not lactating or engorged right now. Wednesday night I had sex and there was some rough squeezing on the side of my breast where the pain and redness is worst.
The vein (maybe) starts in my left armpit and heads directly towards my areola and then does a little loop around the top of my breast towards my sternum.
After a couple days pain and redness developed near the armpit. The redness spread along that vein (maybe). It's a very light colored red almost pink and it's very hard to photograph. The area where the pain and redness is the vein is much harder and larger. Think lump maybe a hematoma? No bruising though. It's very close to the surface of the skin so a bruise should be noticeable.
I've been on ciprofloaxin since Monday 4pm. There has been no improvement. The redness has continued to spread.
Physically I feel fine. No flu like symptoms. No fever no discharge.
I had a CBC drawn Monday before the antibiotics and my WBC was at the high end of normal. I can get the results off MyChart if exact number is needed.
I have an ultrasound on the breast and mammogram scheduled Monday.
Other than what Google tells me when I search "mastitis not lactating" (inflammatory breast cancer) what else could this be?

Target Market Analysis
Before diving into selling fashion items for women, it's crucial to conduct a thorough analysis of your target market. Understand the preferences, needs, and purchasing behaviors of your potential customers. Consider factors such as age group, style preferences, price range, and geographical location. This analysis will help you tailor your product offerings to meet the specific demands of your target market, ensuring higher customer satisfaction and increased sales.
Trend Research
The fashion industry is ever-evolving, with new trends emerging regularly. Staying up-to-date with the latest fashion trends is essential when selling fashion items for women. This knowledge will guide your product selection and help you offer trendy and in-demand fashion items to your customers. Stay connected with fashion publications, influencers, and industry events to stay ahead of the curve.
Quality and Durability
In the competitive fashion market, quality and durability are key factors that can set your products apart. Ensure that your fashion items are well-crafted, durable, and capable of withstanding regular wear and tear. Delivering quality products will earn you a reputation for excellence and encourage repeat purchases and positive word-of-mouth referrals.
Pricing Strategy
Setting the right price for your fashion items is crucial for sales success. Consider factors such as production costs, market demand, competition, and perceived value when determining your pricing strategy. Striking a balance between affordability and profitability is essential. Conduct market research to understand the price range for similar fashion items in the market. Offer competitive prices that appeal to your target market while ensuring your business remains profitable.
Branding and Differentiation
In a crowded marketplace, effective branding and differentiation are essential for standing out from the competition. Develop a strong brand identity that resonates with your target market. Special Occasions and Weddings
Special occasions such as weddings, parties, and formal events create a demand for elegant and sophisticated fashion items.
