Santiago raises an eyebrow as he finds Albin whaling on holographic opponents. The safeties in the room ensured that even though the kid wasn’t doing that well, he was still not getting hurt. He has one real piece of advice. “Follow through.”
“What?” Albin asks. He had sent he room to send out endless waves off literally faceless opponents at him so he could feel like something other than weak. But he... he’s not very good. He may have gave off a good fight when he could rely almost entirely on his Yauya Cloaking abilities. But he’s not even trying to fade out of sight now and is just flailing around.
“If you want your opponent to feel it then don’t swing like you just want to hit them, swing like you want to crash through it. Don’t aim to hit the opponent. Aim to cave them in.” Santiago says and Albin tries before shaking his hand.
“It’s not doing much better.”
“That’s because you’re just using your arm. Turn in with the punch, put your whole body behind it and it’ll be felt.” Santiago says throwing a punch as an example.
The next shot rocks back the faceless opponent and sends it staggering rather than just having the head snap back and return like a mocking speedbag.
“See? Follow through and full body. Thankfully you’ve already got a good idea how to make a proper fist. Thumb on the outside.” Santiago says punching one of the targets so hard it crashed into another three hard enough to take them all out. “So, wanna talk?”
“Every time I talk with someone about my problems the more of a problem it becomes!” Albin replies as he slams a hard fist into the gut of another opponent and it starts to fade away. There are only about two more opponents left in this wave and Santiago’s smash to the top of one’s head has enough force to crush a man’s spine, let alone the somewhat weaker hologram.
Meanwhile Albin has grabbed the last hologram by the shoulders and was slamming his knee into it’s crotch over and over again. He pants and stands up before pulling Axiom into himself to rejuvenate. Santiago doesn’t try to engage in conversation again. According to Doctor Malaise, who has a connection to his earpiece, the kid needs to reach out first and is more likely to do so to a positive male role model. Something he fits in as as a strong independent man who also has strong family values and frankly nothing but positive interactions with the young man.
Three waves pass with Albin getting faster and stronger with each push as he figures out more from fighting with Santiago there to provide an example. He goes from flailing to respectable crosses and hooks with the occasional jab mixed in as well. A bit of example from Santiago and he starts taking up a boxing stance and things just start falling into place.
At the end of the fourth wave Santiago sees his exhaustion and pauses the simulation to allow Albin a break. The boy collapses to the ground panting and trying to regulate his body temperature a bit better. A bit of a task considering his lack of sweat glands.
“Feel a bit better.” Santiago asks.
“Feel like I’m boiling myself alive.” Albin says as his tongue lolls out a bit.
“In a god way or a bad way?”
“How can it feel good to be boiled alive!?” Albin demands.
“Bad way then. Got it.” Santiago says. “Just take it easy and let the heat die down then.”
“Already happening.” Albin says as he sighs in relief. The Axiom flow around him is mildly interesting, but of no real concern. The older an Axiom born person is the faster these automatic Axiom adjustments happen. A sort of instinctual experience and efficiency.
“Nice, very nice.” Santiago says as he helps Albin up who’s sniffing the air.
“What... are you stinking?”
“No, I’ve been throwing my punches far harder than I need to. So it’s a slight workout for me. A bit better than shadowboxing to be honest.”
“Shadowboxing?” Albin asks and Santiago steps back to give him an example.
“You work on your speed and form like this! You use a bag to push your force and toughen up your hands too!” Santiago explains and Albin chuckles.
“That’s a bit different from how Bane fights.” He teases and Santiago pauses mid box before chuckling.
“True enough, there are many unarmed fighting styles. Bane is a poor example of one, relying more on brute strength and endurance than skill. But he’s a Luchadore. A grappler. I’ve been trained in the Lucha style and I prefer it. So I’m the default option for playing a bad Lucha and...” Santiago explains before finishing off by blowing a raspberry in annoyance and Albin chuckles at that.
“Don’t like doing a bad job?”
“I defy you to find me one man, no, one person that likes doing a bad job of things!”
“Plenty of people do things halfway!” Albin dismisses.
“Yes, but they’re succeeding in that they want to avoid work and be lazy. Name one person who wants to work and is satisfied doing it badly.” Santiago rephrases his challenge.
“My parents did a bad job with me and...”
“They’re absolutely miserable about it and hate themselves for it.” Santiago interrupts that train of thought even before Doctor Malaise can tell him to. He doesn’t care if he’s lying or not. He hates that very mindset.
“What?” Albin asks.
“Keep going, you’re right, please keep going.” Malaise tells him through his earpiece.
“Do you think your parents like that they’ve hurt you? They may have made mistakes, but they never wanted you hurt.” Santiago says before shrugging. “They coddled and smothered you. Not good. But they never laid an angry hand on you and... have they ever even shouted at you?”
“No, not really...”
“Then it could have been worse.”
“But... I mean...”
“Look, I’m not either of your parents. But you’re going to be caught up in endless what could have beens or what ifs if you don’t speak with them. I understand the hesitation. But well... I am personally an Undaunted. I see something hard to do as something that’s worth doing all the more.”
“Because it’s hard?”
“Because by doing hard things, you become a stronger person. You become better, not because you do something easy, but because you do something hard. It’s easy to sleep, to eat, to not care. But it’s hard to work, to push past your hunger and harder still to care. But no one celebrates the best napper. The biggest eater... maybe, but the most uncaring person? What do they have?”
“Well I assume big eaters have big bodyparts.” Albin says with a bit of a grin. He clearly understands what Santiago is saying but is arguing for the sake of it.
“And if they keep small and thin? Are they just a big eater then?”
“Alright alright fine! I get it! I get it...” Albin says before trailing off. After a few moments he gives Santiago a sideways look. “So... how much of that was Doctor Malaise’s coaching.”
“The extent of it has been keep going, keep going. Please keep going.” Santiago says as he plucks out the ear piece and pockets it. “There, see? It’s gone.”
“Alright. I just... I know I hired her but at the same time it! I mean... Argh!” Albin exclaims miming strangling something as he utterly fails to find the words and just groans in disgust, annoyance and frustration.
“I know.”
“How?”
“I was a teenager once too you know! You’re feeling everything! The world is shifting around you! You’re finally aware enough to see the things you never saw before or always ignored but you don’t have the experience or knowledge to deal with them! You feel like you can take on an army! But the stupid randomness of life is tripping you up every step of the way! You’re unstoppable! But you’re helpless! You’re immortal! But you can’t DO anything! I know! I really, really know.”
“You do?”
“Yes! I thought I was going right to the top of the heap in Lucha when I was in highschool! I got to the semi-finals on a technicality and was tossed around like a joke! I thought nothing could stop me! Then The Gecko treated me like a complete chump!”
“You were?”
“I was! But do you want to know what I did?”
“What?”
“I spoke with The Gecko afterwards. I talked to him, I learned how he beat me. I learned what my weaknesses were. I learned and then I practised anew. I grew to become better. The problem you’re having with your family... it can be somewhat the same. Right now, there’s been a defeat. Metaphorically, both you and your family have lost the fight. So if you’re to learn from this and grow to be even better fighters, you need to talk to learn about your weaknesses, which you have indeed started to do, and then you need to train to be better. To be stronger.”
“... It’s completely insane that that actually made sense.” Albin says after a bit and Santiago laughs.
“True enough! But sometimes the most mangled metaphors are the most effective!” He says. “Now! Want to face a wave or two with nothing but grappling? Learn to control your opponent and you can control a fight.”
“I’d like that. I think I would. It feels good to break things.”
“It’s called Catharsis. You’re venting all your grief and rage and frustration when you’re hurting things. The mind lives in the body, so a lot of problems can be strangely solved by just going out and doing something.” Santiago says before shrugging. “It’s just one of the odd things of life.”
“Yeah, that’s weird.” Albin concedes.

Doctor Malaise resists the urge to sigh. After Santiago had pulled off a minor miracle in further calming and getting Albin more agreeable she had arranged a meeting between Albin and his parents Thalison and Azisa. Which in brooding teenage fashion had quickly shut down as Albin decided to sulk anew and glare over his shoulder as he turned mostly away.
She ensures that the urge to try and shake the silly boy is well and truly suppressed before she opens her mouth. “Now, this meeting has been agreed to as the unfortunate death of Beaky has revealed quite a few issues and miscommunications in this family that need to be if not sorted out, then at least discussed. Albin, would you like to speak first?”
“Oh? Am I allowed to talk? Am I not too frail for that!?” Albin demands.
“We just wanted to...” Thalison begins but Azisa speaks over him.
“Son you don’t understand...” She begins to say before a piercing whistle from Doctor Malaise grabs everyone’s attention. She then slightly coughs to both clear her throat and establish an appropriate level of sound for the conversation.
“Let’s not start with casting blame or insults. That only leads to such things being returned or defensive attitudes. Instead perhaps you two could explain to Albin why you thought it was a good idea to hide the fact he had Gurana’s Syndrome from him.”
“If I may?” Thalison asks. There’s no answer. “It’s from my family line so it’s best if I answer.”
“By all means. Please.” Doctor Malaise says and she notes happily to herself that Albin has turned a little more towards his parents instead of away.
“It was by my recommendation that we don’t tell you about your Gurana’s Syndrome or treat it as odd, because to me? To my family? It is normal. Once a generation, someone has it. Every twenty years there is Gurana’s Syndrome in the family. Sometimes it’s as little as a ten year gap. And sometimes, though never more than once every hundred or so years, we have two at once.” Thalison explains. “And normally, what we’ve done with you Albin, works perfectly! My cousin Garona had it in my generation. She’s a master bladesmith now and makes a very comfortable living producing custom weapons for hunters and warriors of all stripes. Before her, it was your grandfather. The man is a historian. Before him it was a great great aunt! She’s an expert huntress specializing in traps and animal calls to do all the work for her.”
“Then what went wrong with me?” Albin demands fully facing his father and while not hiding away, he is confrontational about it.
“Pure bad luck. That’s all. What I did for you, worked for my cousin. Worked for my father, your grandfather. Worked for my Great Aunt, your Great Great Aunt. You are the first in many generations to actually have a negative side effect of Gurana’s Syndrome. I wanted this to go so very differently. I figured you’d go hunting with your sisters in a huff, then after that you and me would drag them to the fertile plains over this world and you’d have a wonderful time playing with Beaky and getting your sisters to as well. But it all fell apart.” Thalison explains before taking a deep breath and swallowing a bit to rewet his throat.
“Where did it go wrong? I don’t know! Was it your sisters pushing too hard or being too inattentive? Was it Beaky choosing to be difficult at the exact wrong moment? My choice of destination? You choosing the exact wrong time to dig in your heels? I don’t know! Maybe all of them, maybe none of them! But it was not deliberate. I don’t want to hurt you, I never wanted to hurt you. If I can get nothing else across to you today, then understand this, I’m on your side. I want the best for you. I’m your father and I love you. I want you to have a wonderful life and I’m sorry about what happened to Beaky. I really am. I know he meant a lot to you.”
Albin tries to answer but nothing comes out. He tries again and there’s a slight hitch in his breathing. But still no words. He pushes and tries to force it and he breaks out in a few sobs. Thalison is beside him and pulling him into a hug that Albin does nothing to get away from even as he starts breaking down. Before he can even start to weep Azisa is there and embracing them both.
Doctor Malaise smiles at this. It’s a start.

Note: I am still working on this theory and I know there is a ton of stuff I am missing, but what better place of this one to try and discuss?
It has been discussed frequently, but still something that has bugged me since I've known Star Trek (and that is many many years ago) is the concept of how a society can function if we remove money from the equation.
As far as I remember, it is never clearly stated how people in the UFP carry on with their lives and decide to work when they don't need money. We do however know that "the acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force" and that "humans work to better themselves" from First Contact.
Though this only brings out more questions: are there enough people willing to do every job still needed to be done? What drives people to the less desired positions? Because apparently, if in a post-scarcity society you don't need to work at all, we are supposed to believe one works just because he wants to or out of boredom.
But this leaves out the more tiresome jobs (or less interesting), and automation will only go up to a certain point (We only see in PIC S1 that androids have started to be used as workforce, but we also see other workers of what seems like a tedious job).
I've come up with an idea: what I will call the "Reputation system", though reputation is used loosely.
Assuming that: in a post scarcity society your basic needs will always be met, something like a UBI without the money. You have the right to a house, a bed, to eat regularly, to travel, to see a doctor and so on. And you will just ask for it and receive what you need.
But if you work, any kind of job, every time you consistently do your job you receive reputation points. You do not spend them: they "just" give you priority to request goods or services (for example priority to use a replicator).
In a post scarcity society there are no actual commodities to be exchanged, as everything can be created from energy and recycled in enegy, and energy from M/AM reactors is almost limitless. Only thing of value: your time. So, waiting less for obtaining something might be desirable.
It may not seem much when you just wait in line for a food replicator, as it is quick and will serve everyone in front of you quite fast, but what if you want the parts for a space shuttle and you need access to an industrial size replicator? There are far less of them, and they probably work all the time. What if you want it already assembled? You will also need to require services of the aforementioned workers, who no doubt are working hard every day.
Enter the reputation system, along with waiting time: in this system you have a certain score, and the higher it is, the higher you are in any queue when requesting something. And the more time you wait, the more "situational score" you accumulate.
The situational score is important because otherwise, in certain "markets", you may end up with your queue position always overtaken by people with a higher Reputation Score and never get what you want. But let's say you have 100 RS and waited 30 minutes, and those give you 100 situational points, you now have 200: someone with a Reputation Score of 180 is no longer able to overtake your position. Once you've waited enough, no one can, not even Starfleet high ranked officers with, let's say, 800 RS.
So that's why you decide to work: because if you don't you still live your life perfectly fine, but whenever you want to do something out of the ordinary you will end up waiting. Now, how do you get the Reputation Points? They may work this way: if your customers or "employers" (Starfleet for officers for example) confirm you did your job, you get a certain amount of points. If they value your job as exceptional you get extra. If you fail to do your job within the expected standards, you lose points.
So now you have the choice of what job you want to try to do, and if you become very good in it you will work more and accumulate more reputation points. Not everyone is tailored to be an art performer, or to oversee agriculture. So you tend to choose the job for which you feel you can do your best: maybe you're that good at working in a factory replicating and assembling components for Warp Drives. Boring, tiresome, but you're good and you quickly accumulate RP.
It does not stop here: workers and professionals with high reputations will be in demand. And the system takes care of it too, since the higher the reputation of someone, the longer will be the queue of people wanting to hire him (let's say, a good musician for a concert). But when queues are too long customers may decide to go down the reputational ladder and hire someone with less reputation, that maybe has no queue at all in that moment.
In this sense you "work for the betterment of yourself" and of humanity as a whole: you don't need to work to live and not even to fulfill your dreams. But if you do you'll get things faster, cutting waiting times that nibble at your only commodity in the future: time. No one lives forever (yet), and shorter queue times are desirable and a driving force.
And this is how everyone, by working to better himself, also works for a better humanity: by doing his best at the job he thinks he can do best. And if he want to do another job, he will try to learn and get experienced to do it the best he can.
Now, let's address what could be a weak point: people with impossibly high Reputation monopolizing every kind of request. This could be easily avoided with a limit that says you cannot ask for something new if you have still a certain number of requests undergoing. And besides, even with 10,000 RS you could not get in front of a no-worker even at a food replicator if he's been waiting long enough that he got 10,001 situational points.
Another weak point: no one lives forever but some species live longer than others, and therefore may be able to reach higher Reputation Scores. But even that could be fixed by weighing the amount of score for every job against the average life span of the species. So if an Ocampa and a Vulcan do the same job, in the same way, and both customers are equally satisfied, the Ocampa will get far more Reputation Points. And it makes sense, because by having less to live than the Vulcan, he should be allowed to get the things he needs faster.
Again, this is a theory I am still working on and there may be something around the corner ready to destroy it. But without challenging it I cannot test and improve it anyway so... let me know what you think.

There were rules to staying in the house. Rules of order, behaviour, respect. Of course, said rules were very soft, very fluid, and kept changing to accommodate new arrivals and new situations.

• No children

— That half-heartedly lasted until Rob and Rosie's son Joshua was born, but had already been shattered a half-dozen times due to women showing up demanding support for offspring that belonged to one resident or another.

• No excessive noise after midnight

— That one was struck down in committee sometime in the second month when no one could decide how much noise was "excessive."
A handful of other rules came and went in the first year, and others would crop up now and again, but they were so ephemeral, so constantly shifting and changing, that in the end all that mattered was keeping the door to your room closed when you wanted privacy. Even that was not guaranteed, but others did appreciate when you at least made the effort.

Listing a recent build of mine as we’ve got a newborn and I’m dropping down to a single bike stable for the foreseeable future due to limited riding time.
Less than 300 miles on it total, bike is in flawless condition and ready to rock. All components were new for the build other than the shifters, saddle, and seatpost. Impressively light for a full steel frame and does a great job absorbing road chatter. A weird (and fun) blend of tech and retro. For my Orange County people, I built this up with Santiago Canyon, Silverado, and Modjeska in mind. 59cm frameset was a great fit for me at 6’1.5”.
Force AXS shifters, Red crankset (167.5mm w/46T chainring), Rival AXS XPLR derailleur and Force XPLR cassette. Wheels MFG bottom bracket.
Velo Orange Grand Cru Brakeset and Headset, Mercury S3 Carbon wheelset set up tubeless with 32mm Gravelkings and Muc-Off valves. Frame/calipers can easily clear 35s in the rear and likely a 38 in the front. Black Prince pads just set up (1 ride) for a little extra bite, but I’ll also include the originally Mercury pads, which are softer but dead silent.
Zipp XPLR 44cm handlebars, Nitto UI-12 110mm stem (also have 100mm if needed) Soma seatpost, Specialized Romin Pro saddle. If you’re a narrow handlebar fan I’ll also toss in a used set of 40cm Easton EC70 bars that won’t be going on any other builds.
Only item to note is a potential slight slip in the seatpost - it occurred more frequently with a shorter seatpost I used originally, and I haven’t noticed it as much with the Soma, but my guess is that it’s something with the chasing/finishing from the factory on the interior of the seat tube. As I don’t have the time to fully assess it, as part of the sale I’ll pay for whatever fix is needed (if any). Want to take it to a bike shop? I’ll send you the 80 bucks for labor. Want to use a larger diameter Thomson seatpost? I’ll cover the cost of a new seatpost. Are you handy and able to fix the issue at home? Perfect, just lie to me and tell me it cost 100 dollars, I’ll still gladly compensate you. Just want to be sure the buyer is as happy with the bike long term as they should be.

Hello all!
My friend and I are planning a trip to Berlin and Prague from July 10th-18th. We will be staying in Berlin from July 10th-13th and in Prague from the 13th-17th. We are having trouble making an itinerary because it looks like there is so much to do and we only have four nights in each destination.
We would love to do some general sightseeing and the stereotypical touristy stuff, but would also like to venture out and talk to the locals, learn more about the culture, and experience the city in a more "off the road" type way. We were also thinking to experience the nightlife but aren't sure what the good clubs are/how strict the bouncers are. For more reference we both enjoy house and techno music.
Also we are not sure where to stay in terms of hotels. We have found a lot of cheapish ones ($80-$115 a night) but we are not familiar with the different neighborhoods and where to stay to be close to public transportation, the airport, good restaurants, cafes, shops, etc.
Does anyone have any good recommendations for us? We are both females and traveling without parents for the first time so we also need to be in safer areas/not doing anything super sketchy. Would still love to have a ton of fun there though just doing it responsibly.

I have pretty good credit for a 25 year old. I owed 20 dollars from a doctors visit over a year ago. Which I didn’t find out about until today. I was receiving texts from a “credit collection service” the phone numbers didn’t work, the websites looked so fake so I ignored it. I got another text today so I decided to call the doctors office/network and they said it’s from a visit back in March of 2022. They said they tried sending me mail and I never received a single piece. No one tampers with my mail and I lived in the same place for years. After another of me complaining how I never received anything I payed it right then. What are the chances and if so how much did 20 dollars hurt my credit. I was about to try to refinance my vehicle.

I've known Stacy for about a year and a half, now. I had always thought she was very cute, but I had never really thought a relationship was possible because I basically felt like she was "out of my league" until a friend told me he thought that she was into me, because when he met Stacy, she more or less only talked about me. Now, since then I've learned that she feels like she isn't good at making conversation, and usually only talks about things that she has in common with other people, and in the case of this friend, I suppose it was the fact that they both knew me.
Stacy has, for most of the time I've known her, been in a third-wheel situation with a coworker, Dave, who's been stringing her along for that whole time while he's got a girlfriend. He buys her gifts, and he's one of her best friends, and when they had worked together previously, she had a crush on him, and he on her, but neither of them were aware. When she went back to work there, he initiated a romance, despite having a girlfriend, and even though she made it clear that she didn't want to be the other woman, and that he needed to decide to either be with his girlfriend or break off what they were doing, he never did either and continued to flirt with her, kiss her from time to time, and so on. During this time, though I was in love with her then, I never told her how I felt, because I didn't want to complicate her life further. At one point, Eric (35M) who goes to the same bars as us started flirting with her, and Stacy wasn't sure about whether to date him or not.
One day, while Stacy was at my house with a few other friends, we ended up talking on my front stoop, and she said that she wasn't sure if she was right for Eric, or even for me, because of her current relationship status. She also told me that she worried that Eric was too much older than her, and I can't remember if it was in that conversation, or at a later time, but she also mentioned that her mother had cautioned her against dating him for the same reason.
I told her that I understood that the age thing could be a worry, because of the fact that you may not have as much in common and could be in different places in your life, but I also said that, if she wasn't sure, she should at least give Eric a chance and see how it felt. She also expressed a concern that dating him could be a "rebound" and that she didn't want to do that to him or to herself. I told her that I understood that, as well, but that I felt that, if he (knowing her situation) was willing to take that risk, that she shouldn't try to make her decision based on what would be best for him, but only on what would be best for herself, and that eventually she would have to move on if Dave was just going to continue to leave her in the dark.
It took Stacy a while, and several more conversations with myself and others, to finally try allowing Eric to take him on a few dates. I was supportive of this, because, despite my own deep feelings for her, the main thing I want is for Stacy to be happy, and if that's with someone else, then so be it. Ultimately, it didn't work out, and she eventually made it clear that they would be better off as just friends.
About a month or two ago, Dave's girlfriend came to an event at their shared work, and spent the entire time staring her down and making sure that they couldn't talk to one another. I happened to have decided to also go to that event, just to say hi, and when I came in she basically flung herself into my arms and told me that she was done with Dave. I asked her if she wanted me to come get her after work so that we could talk about it, and she did. She gave him a note telling him she was done with the situation (again, gf wouldn't let them talk), and then after work I took her to my house and talked to her for hours about the situation and how she felt. All I did was listen and sympathize, made sure she knew that I was there for her as a friend, and eventually took her home, and she took the next day off because she was too upset to go into work. I talked to her and saw her in person a few times before she went back in to work the next week, and during all this time, Dave never reached out.
During the period where she was either contemplating dating Eric or afterwards, we ended up alone at my house after a night at the bar where we were supposed to hang out with her best friend (Jenny), as well. When we were sitting on the couch, getting ready for bed (she always slept in the guest bed), she blurted out "worst case scenario, I can sleep in the guest bed, but if you don't mind I'd like to cuddle." I immediately accepted the offer of cuddles, and had the happiest night I can remember in who knows how long just snuggling with her while she slept. I'm not even sure I got any sleep at all, I was so happy.
The next time she stayed over, she did not want to cuddle, and I was heartbroken, but we were not alone that night, as Jenny was also staying the night. Another night, when we were alone, she agreed to cuddle again. Then one night, all three of us slept in the same bed, though I was more hands-off than usual, because I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable (also given that I had about a week of FWB with Jenny before I thought that there might be interest from Stacy, which Stacy had shown great interest in at the time it happened). I've since assumed that she will never cuddle if other people are there, but she has on another occasion when we were alone together.
She is very affectionate with me, much more than with any of our other friends, and we regularly tell each other "I love you". She's also said a number of things that make me feel as though she is at least considering me as maybe more than friends. Finally, about two weeks after the Dave break-up (or whatever you want to call it), I was talking to her and, after she mentioned maybe looking for other people to date, I asked her how she felt about me as maybe more than friends. She said she didn't know for sure. I assured her that, if she said "no" that I would understand and focus just on being her friend. She did not say no. She also asked how long I'd felt that way, and I told her it had been a long time, to which she replied "awww, thank you"
Everywhere we go, people always assume we're together, though we always tell them we are not. This weekend was her golden birthday (the birthday where your age and the day of your birthdate match), and she invited friends to come spend time with her on the day itself, while one of her friends who is also a friend of her brother's and myself were invited to come for the whole weekend. I spent the whole weekend there with her, a good deal of it one-on-one time, and one of her mother's friends asked her mother if we were a couple. When telling me this story, Stacy said that her mom said she didn't think so, but she would be the last one to know, and maybe Stacy had "finally made a decision" which sounds to me like she's talked to her mom about dating me. I got along great with her family over the weekend, so that, too, feels like a good thing.
Every time I get a hint that she might be interested, I get flooded with feeling, and I try to spend more time with her and make sure to appear interested, and whenever I do, I can't help but feel like she pulls back a little. Every time I tell myself it seems like we're just going to be friends, she immediately does or says something that indicates interest (including offering to cuddle, inviting me to spend alone time with her in her parent's hot tub, etc.).
Above all, I want her to be happy, and to be comfortable around me, because I love her as much as anyone I can think of as an individual and a friend. However, I'm also deeply in love with her, and I want to pursue that unless she tells me she just wants to be friends, in which case I'll be quietly heartbroken, but I will honor that and focus on just being her friend. From past experiences, I feel as though I tend to overwhelm potential partners with my feelings and my desire to be around them, so I've been trying very hard not to try and talk to her and be around her 24/7. I also am very aware that she is not out of the woods yet regarding her feelings for coworker Dave, and they do work together a few days a week, and so I want to give her time to finalize her feelings for him and get a bit of closure. Despite saying that she's over it, it's clear she still wishes that he'd just break up with his girlfriend and she'd be right there. She's told me she wasn't sure whether or not she wanted to date me, but didn't give me an outright no when I offered her the chance, and so I guess all I can do is give her time to sort through her feelings.
All that is background to my current question: Until she decides, how do I balance giving her space and keeping it clear that I'm still interested?
TL:DR: I'm interested in my friend, she's made a number of blatant and not-so-blatant indications that she is at least somewhat interested in me. When I asked if she was interested, she said she wasn't sure, when I told her that, if the answer is "no" that I would 100% accept that and focus on being her friend she did not say no. Until she decides, how do I balance giving her space and keeping it clear that I'm still interested?

I feel like I have a weird anxiety where at this point it doesn't feel like I have SA but in very specific situations it is similar to the most EXTREME SA reaction I tend to see on this sub. The anxiety behind the thought of doing a job interview literally paralyzes my mind to the point I cant even take steps to put myself in that situation, which means I don't apply.
I don't have a fear of going places like the grocery store or public places. I can go to parties feel awkward for a moment but after a while assimilate in or end up playing with the dogs/pets. I have been in "interview" like situations like when I volunteer at places and they literally put me in the office of the person in-charge and have a literal interview to see if I'm a good fit for the position. I when I replied to an email to be a TA for a class I had to go to the professors office and have a discussion to see if I was a good fit to TA.
But getting a job in my career field literally makes me panic, my heart rates, I end up literally having my hand shake and I just end up not doing anything. So I've been free-lancing work so I have to talk to clients to plan/set expectations/etc. I feel zero anxiety doing that stuff and I can communicate normally. It seems extremely irrational to be "normal" except for trying to get a job in the career field I wanted to go to. I've read/watched a bunch of stuff that makes me think its a trauma response but I've never had a negative experience with an authority figure, a teacher or anyone in the field or at my school. I don't feel like I'm "stupid" or incapable of doing/learning something, I was able to graduate with a 3.98GPA and volunteer around. It does feel like imposter syndrome but at the same time I feel like I don't know anything aside what I learned in school so there isn't much to be an imposter of. So it just messes with my mind with how irrational avoiding an interview feels like, maybe its the discomfort of doing something I haven't done before in an official sense that putting me off.
How do you guys just push through this stuff? I feel like I have no issue in an interview except when its directly related to the career I want to go to.

I’ve reconnected with my first long-term boyfriend of 3.5 years after losing contact 10 years ago. I reached out to him and at first he was very happy to hear from me (he said he tried looking for me - I have very limited social media) We maintained a good friendship for a couple years before we both lost touch so I was expecting the connection to be positive. So far I’ve experienced some hurtful behavior.

1. One day when we were reminiscing on the past (on the phone - we live in different states) I asked him why we dated for so long/why he dated me (we are both single so I didn’t think it was inappropriate to ask) he told me he dated me mostly for my looks. I thought he was just joking and I asked if he can name anything else and he got defensive. No further explanation was given. 2. He then proceeded to cut me off when I wanted clarification and ignored me for 2 whole months just to respond and tell me it was a joke and not true at all. 3. When he finally responded and we talked about the topic he told me I “should of explaining what I felt" despite the fact that I had already expressed my feelings in the texts he ignored. 4. He downplays and devalues our past relationship as if it was nothing just because we were young. I even asked him if it was a real relationship to him and he basically implied it wasn’t. 3.5 years. A significant amount of time and emotion. And I’m not even counted as a real relationship. I’ve moved on too but that doesn’t take away from our history like it does for him. Maybe I wasn’t memorable or good enough. So this it made me feel low for something I remember sweetly.5 He is short with me by text, take hours to respond (despite saying how much he loves texting) and doesn’t follow through with plans unless prompted. 6. He agreed with me when i called him “difficult," which suggests that he may not be willing to take responsibility for his behavior and have accountability. He also said he’s the type that people have to take in “small doses” (whatever that means) I actually think him saying this explains everything I’ve experienced since we reconnected. 7. It’s put up or shut up with him. I can’t talk about anything when it comes to the above mentioned topics.

All I’ve done is be nice to him, see how he’s been and talk kindly about him and my memories.
I’ve brought up these things to him and he just shuts me down. Now he’s cutting me off again because I’ve told him it’s been hurtful talking to him. Am I overreacting?
TL:DR - Ex that I once had a great relationship/friendship with is treating me in hurtful ways and I don’t know if I’m overreacting

I (28F) have been seeing my partner (27M) for 2 years ish minus a 3 month breakup period. I have been questioning my attraction to him throughout our relationship but have always complimented him. Sometimes they were honest compliments, and sometimes I questioned the honesty of what I was saying. He has expressed many times that he owes a lot of his confidence to me and praises me often for being supportive . This adds to my uncertainty and guilt. For context, I only recently started therapy for OCD.
The first point of conflict for me is his health, including his weight. I value health and fitness and want a partner who also shares this lifestyle which I know he does. When I met him he had already started gaining weight because the gyms had closed due to the pandemic. I think it is worth mentioning that he has an eating disorder and his all or nothing mentality with fitness triggered him to start eating poorly as well during this time. I figured it did not matter because it’s normal for us to fluctuate in our health throughout our lives and we cannot be perfect. Also, he was talking of getting back into shape and eating properly. 2 years later and he is doing exactly what he said he would. I’m proud of his determination and progress but I sometimes think I would not stay with him if he did not get back in shape. I remedy this uncertainty by comparing the current him to old pictures of him, when he was fit. It would hurt me deeply if he thought like this about me, and it hurts me to think this way about him 😞
The second point is his thinning hair. I don’t think I have an issue with him going bald but he currently styles his hair with a subtle comb over and I’m ashamed to say it gives me the Ick. I have tried to gently suggest a new hairstyle, one that doesn’t hide his hair loss but understandably he is struggling with his confidence and this is a major insecurity for him. I will even get frustrated with him when his hair falls out of place because it sends me spiralling, questioning his physical attractiveness. My thought process is why can’t he try to make himself more attractive to me so I can avoid these thoughts all together. Of course these are self centred and narcissistic thoughts which worries me.
We are moving towards marriage but I feel he deserves someone who would marry him in any physical state and not focus so much on his potential. I think the breakup was largely related to my anxieties and during that period I reflected a lot and missed him and all of his qualities. I even started noticing people with his features and found them attractive. I’m so lost and so uncertain. I just don’t know if my current thoughts are rational or not. Either way there is loss. If they are related to my OCD, I don’t know how to overcome it. If they are not then I feel that makes me a superficial and bad person, especially for stringing him along.

But I've also read quotes by Nichiren that basically show he wanted to DESTROY all other sects of Buddhism!!! (These quotes have been linked many times, sorry not to link them again).
It seems that Nichiren was only protecting the followers of the Lotus Sutra and not other religions, though . So in our modern-day, we might say that Nichiren would have protected both the Shoshu priesthood and the SGI members.

Hi all. I would appreciate some outside perspective on my situation. I live in California, in a high cost of living area. I've been job hunting for the last few months, and have been fortunate enough to recently receive two job offers, both with the State.
Job #1 is with the Department of Social Services, and job #2 is with a local state college, and both are administrative positions. Job #1 has a mix of office and field days, which require me to use my personal vehicle, while Job #2 has a fixed office location on campus. Job #1 has a starting pay of $4500 per month in the first year, and since it has a step system, the pay would increase to $5000 per month in year two. It also has a union. Job #2 has a starting pay of $3500 per month, but there is no step system, so there is no guaranteed pay increase annually, though it also has a union which fights for one.
Both positions have comparably good medical, dental, and vision benefits, with Job #1 requiring a minor deduction from each employee paycheck (about $50 for the employee contribution), whereas job #2 has a stipend that covers all benefits (if the basic options are selected). Both jobs have a pension, both have a union, and both have a good degree of job security, though I would suspect job #1 with the Department of Social Services would be a bit more secure, since it is more directly connected to the State. I suspect job #1 would also make more opportunities for growth and movement available to me, whereas people working in job #2 say opportunies for growth are very limited.
Since I am looking for a long-term career, and since I hope to one day buy a home in my area, job #1 seems to be the better choice by a wide margin, due to its higher pay, step system and security, as well as the doors that this position would open. However, based on my research, job #1 is highly stressful, has a high turnover rate, and is a position many feel to be overworked and underpaid. While Job #2 pays significantly less, many say that it is an enjoyable position, with low-stress, and a comfortable work environment (though a common complaint is the low and stagnant pay). If the pay for both positions were equal, I would take job #2 in a heartbeat, however, since that is not the case, I just need to determine how much of a premium I am willing to place on having a low-stress and pleasant work environment.
What are others' thoughts on my situation? Is there anyone who has ever been in a similar situation? Is there any chance job #2 would be able to match the salary of job #1, if I were to show them my official offer paperwork (I suspect they wouldn't, since it's a union job, but they also mentioned that pay was based on skills, experience, and equity, so I was thinking I could frame my request by saying that another state body, which also uses those same criteria, determined I was eligible for 4500 per month starting). I know mental health and happiness are important, and I wouldn't want to wake up every morning for the next 30-40 years dreading work, but past a certain point, I don't want to have unreasonable-- or as some could say, childish-- expectations. I should also note that, as other factors for consideration, there is a handful of people who say they love job #1, and that job #2 would be at a school I once attended, so it has tremendous sentimental value to me. I am also aware that, with either job, home ownership in my area will be difficult, and likely not possible for a few years. I appreciate any advice or wisdom anyone can share!

Hello all, so this is about to be loaded but me and my boyfriend (22F) & (23M) have been together for about a year and a half. Me and my boyfriend haven’t had any issues between me and him, only his mother. At the beginning me and her got along very well, she was very sweet and supportive of me and it helped a lot because i’m in college 800 miles away from home and don’t have many friends where I’m at.
She is a single divorced woman who doesn’t have much friends and cut off most of her family. The only person she has is my boyfriend. Anyways, so they have a pretty traumatic past, her ex husband is my bfs father and he is an abusive alcoholic who stalked and severely abused my bf and his mother to the point where they fled their town to another to get away from him. My BF is in therapy and genuinely handles his past well. His mother… does not.. She is a very resentful angry person sometimes and can be supportive and sweet but flips the dime literally at a moment notice. She can be incredibly psychotic. She recently got into therapy because of a ultimatum my bf gave her because she started calling him having a breakdown pretty much telling him she was gonna **** herself and just going crazy. I told my bf i was gonna lay a boundary because she is starting to destroy me mentally. He agreed and told her what our boundaries were she agreed but has given me the cold shoulder and out of nowhere acts passive aggressive. I try to ignore it but she unfortunately pays a chunk of our rent and knows what to say to get under my bfs skin.
I’m in school and dealing with her drama is starting to wear on me and I can’t take it anymore. I’m thinking of leaving my lease and my boyfriend because I get anxious at the thought of marrying into his family. He is the sweetest, most loving and respectful guy I have ever been with and the thought of us not being able to be together.. destroys me. But with us both being in college and the hold she has over him, I can’t do it anymore. My parents love him and hate what we’re going through and my mom said i’ll be searching for someone like him for the rest of my life.. which i agree. i love him so much but i see no future with him anymore because she’ll come with it. thoughts?

I have pretty good credit for a 25 year old. I owed 20 dollars from a doctors visit over a year ago. Which I didn’t find out about until today. I was receiving texts from a “credit collection service” the phone numbers didn’t work, the websites looked so fake so I ignored it. I got another text today so I decided to call the doctor and they said it’s from March of 2022. I payed it right then. What are the chances and if so how much did 20 dollars hurt my credit. I was about to try to refinance my vehicle.
