| I started using uber service long time ago when it just started and I always tip . Like always. At least $ 3 . I tip average $5-$20. I tip more when the rides are short because I know the drivers donât make much from driving short trip. I just lost my job and started driving uber last week for the first time ( I never worked service job that comes with tip before ) . I drove a guy from his senior home to a steak house . He needed a walker and could barely walk . I helped him from his dorm door to the car . Fold his walker and put it in the trunk . Took it out and helped him to the restaurant front door . All took me 40 mins for $5 ride . NO TIP đ Second ride , I drove a college professor from her house to her community college in the rain .I made sure to drop her off right in front of her building so she did not have to walk in the rain. Its a $8 ride. NO TIPS . I did 5 rides with no tip then I was thinking to myself: I never knew that other people are not tipping? Anyway, I quit after 3 days . submitted by jordan_maymay90 to uberdrivers [link] [comments] |

2023.05.16 21:10 TigersBeatLions Think I successfully crashed a surge party...
| So I just dropped off a PAX and was right outside a 8.50 surge area. I started driving toward it...saw as I entered the red zone my surge go from 4-5-6 to 8.50 The 8 50 only showed up once I was right under the 8 50 on the map. I pull over and missed out on 1 trip radar. After seeing the area is not busy at all...I remember reading abt surge party's on reddit. So I open up the rider app and put my home address as if I'm about to order an uber...didn't want the surge to go away. Got another ping radar trip and I was fast enough to secure it. The full 8.50 even though it was far away from the 8.50 on the map and looked like it could have been outside or outskirts of the red zone. The crazy part is...I drove the dude b4. He recognized me. Cool story bro. submitted by TigersBeatLions to uberdrivers [link] [comments] |

2023.05.11 02:46 Ccsaker I'm out
Use to recommend Acorns to everyone. Used too. Lost my wallet, happens to everyone, contact customer service to let them know and lock my card, go through the process, they let me know it'll be the standard 14 business days to get my card, it stings, but since that's all they say they can do I guess I'm out of luck right? Well then they tell me my cards still active. Excuse me? The card I lost is still active? So I clarified, its locked and I can unlock it right? No. The card is active. So I clarify again, you don't mean that I can unlock it if I find it and then use it, you mean that the card is currently unlocked and usable. Yup. That's what the rep confirms. Come to find this isn't true, it was locked the way it should be, and can be unlocked via the app. So it was a miscommunication right? No big deal.
So I have them give me my options to gain access to my money. According to them, the absolute, ONLY way to get access, is to use their transfer out button.I ask about Zelle, I'm told it's not an option. Ask about cash app, or any other form off 3rd party app transference, same responce. I ask about wire transfers (found out after that's not any faster), not only am I told it's not an option, I'm told they don't have any way to facilitate a wire transfer, even if it's requested from a different bank. This doesn't seem right, so I request escalation, they can't do that, I have to wait 1-2 business days. So I confirm that this will be escalated to someone that oversees their checking accounts, they say yes, so I wait.
A week later, I have to put in a second escalation request because I haven't heard anything, but I do get a call back the next day. Get the same information, but this time, I've got more information. I spoke with my primary bank to ask if they could initiate a wire transfer out of my acorns checking account from their end to my primary bank account. Absolutely! Not a problem, though it will take the same amount of time to transfer. In the mean time, I do a test with zelle to see if I could pull money through there, and wouldn't you know it, that worked too! So I relay all of this to the supervisor I'm speaking with, and all they can do is come up with excuses as to how that's not what the preliminary rep meant, but when asked to explain what they meant, they couldn't. Even doubled down that I couldn't do a wire transfer.
I finally asked this supervisor what it was they oversaw. They're just a standard customer support/app supervisor, they have nothing to do with the checking account. After I specifically requested a financial supervisor, and waited a week, I can't even speak with someone that knows anything about my checking account. I expressed my frustration with this, and suddenly the rep became very confrontational, cutting me off multiple times to tell me that they "don't offer financial advise" like it was a magical catch phrase any time the term "finances" passed my lips. This supervisor told me that they would escalate this "to the appropriate member of their financial department" and hung up on me. This was 2 weeks ago.
I've since gone to the BBB to make a complaint after multiple emails have gone unanswered, and I found out two things that were pretty important to me. Acorns Securities LLC is not BBB accredited, and while that's not the end of the world, I would expect a company that promotes themselves to be helpful and for the people would want to be accredited, just as a little extra "See? We're good!" For two, they hold an "F" ranking with the BBB, even though they're unaccredited, with 114 total complaints in the past three years, and 42 reviews in the past twelve months. I wish I had looked sooner.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

2023.04.20 02:28 embarrassedbuthonest Looking for a few more schools to apply to
Hey all, I am looking for some suggestions for schools. This is my second cycle applying, so I want to make it worth it. My biggest weakness during the first application cycle was my clinical experience, so I did what I could to fill that gap. It was a little tricky while maintaining a full-time job, but I feel proud of what I could do. Before, I applied to Colorado and CA schools but had no luck whatsoever. So this time, I am applying more broadly.
State resident: CA
Disadvantaged: ORM but grew up in poverty
Ties to states: California, Colorado, and Wisconsin
GPA/sGPA: 4.0
MCAT: 517
Research: 10,000 or so. I received a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry with about ten publications, several conference posters, grants, etc.
Shadowing: 120 hours across four specialties, both primary and non-primary
Clinical Experience: Volunteering 800 hours over two years of experience as a health counselor
Volunteering: 200 hours post-undergrad teaching cooking classes and trash cleanups; 500 hours in undergrad doing various works
Paid Experience: 6000 hours as a scientist at multiple startups. 600 hours low rate pay (minimum wage) to work at local food communities as a data scientist
Leadership: Managed labs, managed people, and taught university-level classes (not TA but taught)
Between MSAR and premed counseling through alum centers, the school list I have so far is as follows:
Cornell, Duke, John Hopkins, Maryland, Mayo, UCSD, Colorado, Creighton, Kaiser, Pitt, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Davis, UCSF, Madison Wisconsin, Yale, Columbia, Harvard, NYU
I would like to add 2 to 3 more schools to this list as it feels a little too lower yield to me, or maybe I have missed schools that would appreciate me!

Final Thoughts:
I was a bit surprised with how things turned out. My application isn't very well rounded, is pretty boring, I don't have any good awards/olympiads/big ECs, and I don't go to a good school either. I pretty much just did what I was interested in throughout HS, and have stuck with CS/engineering for about 7 years now.
My advice to all CS applicants, please focus on your ESSAYS a lot. They are what make you stand out, which is especially important in such a competitive major. Make sure they show your personality, your goals, and who you are beyond a computer screen. Also another thing is that you don't need to grind olympiads and "do it all" to have a shot. Do what you are passionate about and let it show through your application and essays.

Letters of Recommendation (
Briefly describe relationships with your recommenders and estimated rating.) Interviews - Princeton (9/10): Connected super well with my interviewer, super awesome guy who internet stalked me before we talked (my portfolio is in my email signature). He came prepared and we had a really frank conversation about college and life.
- Northwestern (8/10): Sweet lady but she seemed really rushed. I applied for a dual degree in engineering/communications. She was a student at the communications school, so we talked about that the whole time.
Essays - Personal statement: EA one 7/10; RD was 9/10
- Supplementals were honestly hit or miss, ranged between like a 6-9 of 10.
- My essays (and ECs maybe idk) got me into the reaches I did get into.
Decisions (some acceptances removed for brevity) Acceptances: - [RD] CS @ Arizona State University ($10k/year merit!)
- [EA] CS @ University of Minnesota ($10k/year merit!)
- [EA] CS @ University of Pittsburgh (waitlisted honors)
- [EA] CS @ Rutgers University ($10k/year merit and honors college!!!)
- [EA] Undecided @ UMD
- [EA] CM @ Georgia Tech (transfer guarantee so it's like a rejection + some copium)
- [RD] SWE @ San Jose State
- [RD] CSE @ UC Merced
- [RD] CS/BA @ UC Riverside
- [RD] CS @ RIT ($22k/year merit!)
- [RD] CS/BA @ Northeastern (first year Oakland, $10k/year merit!)
- [RD] DS @ Purdue
- [RD] Undecided @ Colby College (presidential scholar!!!!!!!!!)
Waitlists: - UMass Amherst, UW Seattle, UW Madison
- UCSC, UCSD, Cal Poly SLO
- NYU, Colorado College
Rejections: - UNC, Georgia Tech, UT Austin, UIUC,
- UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, UCSB, UC Berkeley, UMich,
- Northwestern, USC, CMU, Princeton, Yale,
- Cornell, Stanford, Penn, Duke
Additional Information: This application cycle was super nice for me. My rejections (as many as there were) really never hit me hard, but my successes felt amazing. The few, out-of-the-blue acceptances, namely Colby (6% WTF?, Rutgers' Honors College (7% WTF?), and Northeastern (I know they deported me to Oakland for my first year but whatever shut up), as well as some of the random waitlists like UW Seattle and NYU, were welcome and honestly slightly reassuring. My self-esteem never really dipped; my expectations were just validated. I think I knew where I stood as far as applicant potential, which is why this process hasn't really "humbled" me necessarily.
I'm super happy about my results. As far as the application process, I wouldn't have changed a thing. I honestly just shotgunned because I didn't know what else to do for fun LOL and I really enjoyed the essay writing process. But between my options, I had been super confused. It's been really hard to decide (particularly Rutgers put up a really hard fight), but I'm finally
committed to UMD**!!**
It's been fun! And yes, the "t20" in the post title referred to t20 CS hehe (I love UMD) <3
