I know I know everyone is going to hit me with the “no news is good news!” and “just be patient, it takes time!” and I get that, but this isn’t my first go around with Delta. I made it all the way to the F2F in February and got sent home in the last group before the CJO group. I’ve been through the application process. And before you ask, yes, I applied within the allowed timeframe - exactly 3 months and 2 days from the date of my TBNT post F2F, so I know I didn’t apply too early. I applied the day the new req # opened. I know there are others who also have their applications just seemingly in limbo at this point. I’m not asking for advice. Just ranting because this is frustrating at this point. 20 days is a long time for them to not even review the application or send an assessment like they typically do. I also truly believe if they were just going to TBNT us, they’d do so, instead of sending emails about how they’re reviewing your application. I know I just have to wait and be patient and I’ll continue to do so. Again I’m just venting bc I know others are in this same boat. Anyway, I love seeing y’all get your invites and hope you nail those interviews and get those wings, because just like y’all, working for DL is a dream of mine. We've seen more and more discussion about this in the subreddit in the last couple of days, and we've agreed that we will be joining a growing number of other subs protesting the planned changes by blocking out cricket.
If this issue is news to you, there are some copy-pasted and edited details below.

What's going on?

Recently Reddit Inc announced changes to their API which, if enacted, will shut down many, if not all, 3rd party apps that a large number of Redditors use to access and enjoy their favourite communities - this one included. Effectively this means the only way to access reddit on mobile will be through the official app or mobile site.
On May 31 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API - previously this was free, but it will soon be raised to a level that developers of 3rd party apps simply cannot afford, effectively forcing them to shut down forever. More details in posts from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Many people believe 3rd party apps are far superior to the official app, but even if you're not using a 3rd party app yourself these changes are likely to impact the communities you enjoy, with the vast majority of moderation teams relying on 3rd party or self-made tools that utilise Reddit's API (especially in the really big subreddits).
Shutting down these apps basically means many people with vision impairments won't be able to use reddit on mobile, because the official tools just don't have the features they need to be able to use it.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, the changes cast a massive cloud over the future of other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface.

What's being planned across the website?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app.
After the 14th... who knows? Unless reddit changes the plan some subs may stay closed, some may close again but for longer, a lot of people will probably leave reddit entirely, and a lot of mods will probably step down. There are a lot of different scenarios that could play out... some people think this could even be the beginning of the end for the entire site.

What can you do?

There are a bunch of suggestions in a huge number of other subreddits if you'd like to become involved. We won't copy them all here but they including making complaints, leaving negative reviews, boycotting reddit yourself from 12th-14th, and spreading the message to others.
One personal suggestion though - if you DO use a 3rd party app at the moment, consider purchasing the premium version or donating to the app creator to say thank you for the work they've put in.

How will the blackout work here?
We'll take some guidance from other subs on the best way to do it, but for now it's most likely the sub will be set to private (only approved subscribers can view and access it, a list that will be cleared). Alternatively automod will be used to automatically remove all posts and comments posted during the blackout period, other than a post explaining what's going on.
As for timing, it's likely it won't start exactly on the dot at 00:00 GMT but it will be obvious enough when it does happen. Again we'll probably take guidance from other subs so it's somewhat coordinated.
What about the WTC final?
This is scheduled to end on the 11th, the day before the blackout. If something super dramatic happens or there is a delay we may postpone things a bit, but best to assume it's over before the blackout starts. Ideally there's some time to discuss the match fallout too, and we'll take this into consideration.
How is cricket directly impacted by the API changes?
As far as we know, the match bot is ok for now. The changes will definitely impact anyone using a 3rd party app to browse the sub though (you won't be able to do that anymore). A lot of the mods use 3rd party apps to help moderate too, because (like browsing) a lot of us think the official app just isn't good enough.
What about after the 14th?
When the blackout ends the sub will open up again as normal.... at this stage. We'll need to see what happens elsewhere on reddit before deciding to do anything further.
But I don't care about any of this, why can't I keep using the subreddit?
Firstly, we've seen a lot of people asking us to join this blackout so we hope it will be supported by the majority here. Although we don't want anyone to miss out or feel like they're being mistreated when they don't care about this issue, we genuinely believe these changes are just plain wrong. They're grossly unfair to a huge number of people, and contradict many of the principles that this website was built on.
It might not make a difference in the end, and we've always tended to stay out of sitewide drama in the past, but we think it's worth trying in this case.

What a time to be alive, right boys and girls?

So, first of all, I really enjoyed most of Waybound, having finished it. The epilogue was pretty satisfying -- especially the bits with Mercy, Ziel and Yerin, and their respective approaches to their new jobs. The fights were pretty solid overall. In general, I feel like this was one of Mercy's best books, and that's good news, because I love Mercy. I liked the transformation of the Dreadgods into something more human and yet more grotesque, and I liked the prose, which was another reason I read the series.
There were criticisms I could see being levied at the book that don't really apply to me. The characters advanced extremely fast compared to the rest of the series, but the speed of progression was never as important to me as seeing its effects, seeing the characters face new challenges and view old ones from a new perspective, and Waybound did a good job of that -- great, even, in places.
But it had a low point that I feel was lower than any other book outside of maybe Unsouled or Bloodline, and I felt the need to make a post explaining what that point is and why I feel it's so low.
This is a Waybound spoilers thread, so here's the scene I'm talking about: when Ozriel dies, and only Suriel and Makiel together can bring him back. Not only does Makiel do this, he's willing to sacrifice his own life to do it.
Makiel and Ozriel have been at each other's throats for so long that the two pages of them fighting together didn't do enough for me to buy this. Their conflict spanned books. I don't think it was satisfactorily resolved in a handful of pages, when that resolution decided whether Ozriel, a character whose presence defines the series, lives or dies. I can turn it around in my head again and again, but it just doesn't work for me. I'm going to try to explain why.
If you look at Cradle as wrestling, there's a metaphor I can use here. And in many ways, it is similar. It's about seeing two or more people square up, having them pitted against each other not only in a physical sense but also a narrative sense -- willpower is a literal weapon in the universe, after all. And the success of a wrestling match comes from its leadup: long-standing rivalries sell better than new blood.
This felt like Makiel put his shoulders to the mat for Ozriel when he could have easily, easily gotten what he wanted.
Now, thinking about it myself and browsing Reddit, I've thought of a few things that act as a balm for this. I might never love the reigning champion handing his title and his life over to the beloved face that's been given less than his immense due, but I do want to see the narrative logic behind it. There's only a few things I can think of and agree with, and they don't entirely satisfy me.
One is the idea that Makiel always had a shred of goodness in him all along. Sure, that's true. So did Malice, and Malice went done with her ship. Makiel has shown fewer sympathetic traits than Malice ever did. Malice, at least, had her family. Makiel shows a commitment to the greater good that isn't unique among the Abidan, and is in fact arguably weaker than all of the other Judges. You can't argue that he makes tough choices; even the Phoenix does that. You can't argue that he makes personal sacrifices, as I'll get into shortly.
Second is the idea that Makiel is too proud to allow Ozriel to sacrifice himself as he stands idly by. I can agree with that -- but the problem is that we've never been given any indication that his pride comes before even the possibility of success, let alone his life. We've been given that with many characters, multiple times in Waybound in fact. Shen is the most obvious example, and he gets a deliciously ironic end as he's trapped, dying, with the enslaved ghost of the man he killed, powerless and barely himself.
If we'd seen Makiel make even a small (on the Abidan scale) sacrifice to maintain his pride, even once before, I think that'd help. But I can't think of one. If he was so proud he'd rather let Ozriel take his existence and his influence than be shown up by him once, we should've seen him do something similar, smaller, before.
As it is, he must have been shown up by Ozriel dozens of times throughout history. Everything about Ozriel and about Makiel tells us that.
Third is the idea that Suriel's gesture, giving him the Scythe, touched him, reminded him of who he meant to be, just as Lindon did to Northstrider with his echo.
I'm not at all unhappy that Makiel evaded judgment. That is something I would expect from him. In fact, I'd been led to expect it more than a book ago. But this? This, I don't think I could have expected coming into Waybound at all. And by the time the story tried to ease me into the idea, Ozriel was only pages away from being killed, and then saved by his rival.
What gives me trouble digesting this book is that Makiel evaded judgment by sacrificing something I simply didn't expect him to sacrifice, and that for Ozriel, when he had, on a silver platter, the opportunity to follow his established plan and go home with Suriel to rule forever. It mirrors bits and pieces of other narratives in the book -- Northstrider's resigned ascension, Mercy's appeal to her mother -- but despite its more cosmic scale, it feels like their shadow, not the opposite.
I'm glad the main cast got such a bright ending, but Eithan's, in particular, has a bad aftertaste to me.

Hi everyone, this is my first Reddit post ever and I have no idea on how this Works.
Anyways here's what's been hitting on my mental health recently.
I am a 16 y-o boy and this year I realized that I had voices inside of my head. 2 to be specific and another kind of thing whatever it is but I call it the crowd. The crowd is not constantly present unlike the voices and it affects my behavior and mood much more than the voices. Whenever the crowd appears its as if i was in a Bubble and every sound around me Makes me more and more Mad or upset. Sometimes i cant even speak. I have no idea when they appeared but I have always been used to these kind of noises in my head which could explain how it took me so long. I see professionals almost everyday to get all this figured out. We have had many discussions about it and i even got to see a psychologist. She made me sign a form that Says she was allowed to contact ressources linked to what she thinks i have. The people she contacted are people specialized in psychosis/psychotic related problems. Which gives me a kind of preview of what issue i could have. I am still waiting to see the person that Will offer me the services i need in order to get a diagnosis.
The news were very hard to accept as this was not something i wished to hear. Can anyone give me tips on how to keep my head up and to keep the courage and strenght i need to get through this. knowing that things like hallucinations and voices and kind of body switching with my voices have gotten worse in just 2 years. I'll jump right in and start from the beginning, but I think you already know where this is headed...

So, I grew up in Kansas, and although the state government grew increasingly republican, the county I lived in was all liberal democratic. At one time I was in the boy scouts. This was early 2010s or so. I personally never went far in it because it was hosted at a church that was far away, I was very socially awkward and never liked social interactions in general, and it was a cub scout group that did primarily boring things like tying the same knots over and over and also listening to hour long presentations about fire safety or whatever. I never really got to go outside but was there for the free food. I believe I was in second grade or maybe third grade, and only even got to go to like 10 meetings or so. My dad took drove me to them and after he left, for military service overseas, my mother just quit paying for it, and never approved of it anyway. She didn't like me hanging out with him.

In fifth grade I moved to another state, where I currently reside, where the government is completely liberal and democratic. The main motivation for the move, I was told, was my mother hated the Kansas Republicans cutting off educational programs and welfare benefits. But I believe the real reason was to keep me away from my father. He was in the same state after returning from service in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and by the time we moved into this state, he had already been assigned away. Fortunately, the reassignment was stonewalled by many completely unpredictable things. This was the year that NATO ISAF became NATO RSM, and OFS became OEF. I believe the changes were initiated by CJTF OIR, after pretending to be successful with UN SCR 2254, which was written as a response to a rising conflict in Syria that resulted from, among other things, al-Qaeda splitting from Daish. Remember that the CJTF is a mechanism for NATO to create operations and carry them out with non-NATO forces. NATO RSM led the effort in OEF, which is a counterterrorism campaign targeted against Daish. None of that matters anymore because a year or two ago, all NATO forces were withdrawn by the Doha agreement.

I suspect the non-NATO forces will be flocking to Syria in the coming months but honestly, I've never been able to keep track of what they've been up to. My mother said my father was away overseas constantly, in Germany, Israel, or someplace random, but I learned that none of it was true. He was at home, and she spun misinformation using the narcissistic technique of hounding him for information over the phone, making him guess about an unpredictable future, and then deliberately ignoring updates whenever a decision was actually made. He was in Hawaii on a cruise ship when I thought he was in Tehran.

So as a kid I remember the giant fuss that feminists made over the boy scouts. They said that girls should be allowed to join, and the program should be renamed to just "the scouts". There where little carboard signs everywhere with this bullshit on them, as well as the effort being reported in the local news.

The girl scouts, apparently, is not as fun as the boy scouts. I suppose they don't go outside, go camping, or go on field trips. Instead, they sit around in a classroom and learn cooking and cleaning or whatever. I don't know, I was never a girl scout. It was the fact that boys have so much more fun that was considered misogynistic by the feminists.

So, in many troops now, girls can join. In the cub scouts that I was in, there weren't any girls, as far as I can remember, but the counselors themselves where girls, which I think was unusual, given that men usually do that.

I don't understand why the girl scouts can't just restructure their own program. Allow the girls to have the same fun stuff. There's no reason why they can't do that and stay completely on their own.

Of course, the girl scouts are run by women. These women are in charge and made it lame. They design the whole program, run the whole show, and believe that somehow, their failure is the fault of men and boys.

But it's not our fault. The fault is literally the women with the full power and responsibility over their own schedules. They could easily make any renovations to the girl scouts that they want.

Boys just know how to have more fun. We know how to get along and we're not afraid of actual life, and the great outdoors. But then the women want to infiltrate our group. And change it completely. My cub scouts experience was pretty lame, because these liberal women removed anything that was actually fun. They ruin the girl scouts and now want the same for the boy scouts.

We are not misogynist because we live our lives freely and have more fun. I think we never should have let the girls in, they are so miserable and whiny. The amount of narcissism they have is so insane and crazy to me. They have no right to barge in and change things according to a political agenda. What needs to be done is some self-introspection as to restructure the girl scouts. If they want to stop selling cookies and go camping or swimming or hunting or whatever, then why not let them do it? Why do they have to come over to the other side? We did not design the girl scouts. Women designed the girl scouts. Women ruined it and blamed all the men of the world as if we somehow had any control over what they do. I will not be made to believe that I have any responsibility at all for the fact that the women counselors ruined girl scouts all by themselves.

Also, women should not be in the military. I'm sorry, but it comes down to the biological fact that they are not naturally gifted in the areas that a good solider requires. Number one being the oath of honesty that the military enforces. If my father ever behaved like my mother, straight up lying about his location or his credentials, he would be court-martialed immediately.

Now that I think of it, isn't it strange that feminists have an obsession with tearing down any institution that stands for honor? As if men are not allowed to be honorable? Just a final thought...
