2023.05.30 17:55 Pussy_Seasoning [NA] [Xbox] [Plat-Emerald] Looking for chill older gamers that play ranked around 6:30ish-10:30ish PM (CST)

We have a stack of married old guys in our 30s that play most nights. Our ranks are high gold thru emerald. Usually we'll need 1 or 2 people to fill out the stack and we're tired of getting randoms that either don't know how to play the game, or that actively troll and throw matches.
We're trying to find some other chill old married gamers that want to play some competitive ranked and BS about sports, movies and funny TV shows. We ban Jackal every match just as a heads up. Looking for someone that is ideally Platinum or higher so we can stack some wins too.
We usually start around 6:30-7:30PM and play until 10:00-11:00 on week days. Friday and Saturday we'll usually play until 12:00-1:00ish. We're all in the central time zone.
If interested hit me up here or message me on Xbox.
Gamertag: Dr Ray Purebut

2023.05.30 16:15 13AnteMeridiem End of an ITS department

Hi,
I have an interesting story to share, I don't know what to think about it really. Mid-level international firm, around 500 users, top in their field and very maintenance-heavy.
I was an IT guy, starting out as a junior IT supporter, ending up as a manager of the whole IT Support department (12 offices in 11 countries, around 10 internal people) for 2 years. The department was underfinanced, we needed more people, I kept fighting for it with hard proof, was working many overtimes and did my best to keep up the team spirit and to keep people interested, while continuously pushing the top level management to give us more resources.
Unfortunately, head of IT was a manipulative dick, who I found out is claiming all successes and blaming all problems at me (even IT problems of things my ITS department had no relation to, like his failing projects), standing in the way of funding ITS more and hiring more people, trying to micromanage everything through me (he wanted to install a watchdog software to all IT people's laptops, making screenshots every 5 seconds. I would have to drive the "project of that").
Confronted COO, he decided to trust the head of IT, I decided to leave. I've been out for a month now, the firm hired someone onto my place, a 15-years-old-experienced guy.
My team is sending me horror stories. The new guy told everyone on the first day that there is enough people in the dept. but they are not proactive enough and mismanaged, banned personal talk, vulgarisms and gifs in the chat, and fully seriously ordered they should have a Teams meeting after hours on Friday instead to catch up on personal lives (he found out then it's not legal to force them to do that so he backed out). He does not listen to anyone, gives no/wrong solutions to problems to the team, you get the idea. Essentially he's destroying the department.
Bigger, more competent half of the department complained, gave notice, is leaving. But apparently, the head of IT is still being treated as if he's doing well, and COO is holding an umbrella over everything.
Am I missing something? Is there any reason to destroy a department on intention? Both of these guys are not stupid, I don't think they can not know what's happening. So I'm trying to figure out a different reason why it's happening, just to understand, because I don't believe it's incompetence.
Any ideas?

2023.05.30 15:04 Floodman11 Everything YOU need to know about the 2023 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans - Ask your questions here!

With only days separating us from the Centenary Edition of the 24 Heures du Mans, it's time again for the Le Mans Primer thread! This is the place if you’ve got any questions about the 2023 Le Mans event, no matter how small! There are no dumb questions about Le Mans!

CONTENTS

The Race

It all comes back to Le Mans. A century ago, people asked ‘Could a car continue to drive for 24 hours straight?’, an event was made to test that theory, and a legacy in racing, motorsport, and motoring was born. The 24 Heures du Mans is the holy grail of endurance motor racing, and brings up its Centenary edition this year. In its 100 year history, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is recognised as the most prestigious and gruelling test for innovations and improvements in motorsport technology. Technologies such as disk and air brakes, streamlined bodywork, fuel, oil, and lubricant improvements, improvements to engine efficiency and longevity, even things as simple as LED lighting and windscreen wiper blades have been trialled and tested at Le Mans. The normally hot conditions in the middle of June stretch the limits of reliability, with all the teams knowing that in order to beat their competitors, they must first beat the event. A variety of different engine configurations, displacements, positions, fuels, and hybrids have won over the history of the event. So far, petrol-fuelled traditional piston engines have been the most successful. Mazda managed to win using a Wankel Rotary engine in 1991 with the Mazda 787b (oh god listen to that sound!), while Audi was the first to win with an alternate fuel, taking victory in the diesel-powered R10 TDI in 2006. 2012 ushered in the era of the Hybrid, with Audi taking victory in the R18 e-tron Quattro, featuring a flywheel hybrid engine.

Qualifying

The Qualifying format for Le Mans is unique to the event, and called Hyperpole. In this format, all classes are permitted to use the track in the 1 hour qualifying session on Wednesday evening. The top 6 cars from each of the 4 classes then progress to the Hyperpole session on Thursday night, which sets the top of the grid for each class. This means that each class will be segregated on the final grid.

The Track

The Circuit de la Sarthe covers 13.6 kilometres of the French country side. It combines the permanent race components of the Ford Chicanes, the pit straight, under the Dunlop Bridge and through to Tertre Rouge as well as the normal everyday roads of the Mulsanne straight through to Indianapolis and Arnage. The track has gone through many iterations over the years; originally, the cars raced into the heart of the city, turning just before the river Sarthe, before hurtling down the 8.6 kilometre straight. In 1932, the circuit removed the journey into the city, and more closely resembled the track we see today. Here’s a video of Mike Hawthorn touring the circuit with a camera and microphone attached in 1956, one year after his involvement in the Le Mans disaster. The addition of the Porsche Curves and the Ford Chicanes in 1972 added an extra dimension to the high speed, fast flowing track. In the late 80’s, the Group C prototype cars would reach over 400km/h, achieving average speeds of almost 250km/h in qualifying for the entire lap. This is an onboard of Derek Bell’s Porsche 956 in 1983, showing the ridiculous speeds on this configuration of the circuit. This configuration remained relatively unchanged right up to 1990, until FIA mandations required that for the circuit to be sanctioned, it must not have a straight longer than 2km. The 6km Mulsanne straight was cut down into three relatively equal length portions by two chicanes, giving the iteration of the circuit used today. Allan McNish takes you on an onboard lap of the 2008 circuit in this video. McNish is one of the gods of the modern prototype era, winning Le Mans 3 times; once with Porsche and twice with Audi. For a more comprehensive focus on the track, John Hindhaugh’s track walk takes you on a 30 minute exploration of the track, with in depth focus on corners like the Dunlop Esses, Tertre Rouge, Mulsanne Corner, and the Ford Chicanes.
For some modern on boards, check out the fastest ever lap in the Circuit de la Sarthe: Kamui Kobayashi's 3:14.791 in 2017 Q2, and last year’s Hyperpole lap, by Brendon Hartley, setting a 3:24.408
The Dunlop Bridge
The iconic Dunlop Bridge has been a part of the Le Mans track since 1932, making it the oldest Dunlop Bridge at any track. This part of the track requires a good launch out of the first chicane before cresting the brow of the hill, and plunging through the esses out onto the Mulsanne straight. As the LMP cars are much more maneuverable, caution must be taken passing the slower GT traffic, as Allan McNish discovered in 2011.
Tertre Rouge
Tertre Rouge is the corner that launches the cars onto the long Mulsanne straight. Maintaining momentum through this corner as it opens on exit is imperative to ensure maximum straight line speed heading down the first part of the Mulsanne. The undulation in the road makes for fantastic viewing at night, with some magic images of the Porsches throwing up sparks on the exit in 2014. Finally, this was the location of Allan Simonsen’s fatal crash in mixed conditions in the 2013 Le Mans. The Danish flags will fly at the corner in his memory.
Mulsanne Corner
After the incredibly long Mulsanne straight, the Mulsanne corner nowadays features a subtle right hand kink before the tight 90 degree turn. Here, the cars decelerate from 340 km/h down to below 100 km/h, resulting in a brilliant opportunity to overtake. Again, care must be taken overtaking slower traffic; unaware drivers have caught out faster cars attempting to pass through the kink, such as Anthony Davidson’s spectacular crash in 2012 resulting in a broken vertebra for Davidson.
Indianapolis and Arnage
The Indanapolis and Arnage complex is one of the most committed areas of the track. Hurtling down the hill from the Mulsanne Corner, the road suddenly bends to the right, a corner which only the bravest prototype drivers take flat out, followed by a beautifully cambered open left hander taken in third gear. A short sprint leads the cars into Arnage, the slowest point on the track. The tight right hander was the scene of heartbreak for Toyota in 2014 when the leading #7 broke down and had to be retired after an FIA sensor melted and shut off the electronics. Kazuki Nakajiima was unable to make it to the pits, leaving him stranded on the circuit.
The Porsche Curves
At a terrifyingly high speed, the Porsche Curves is the most committed part of the lap. Getting caught behind GT traffic in this section can mean losing phenomenal amounts of time. This was the site of Loic Duval’s horrific crash in practice for the 2014 event. Keeping momentum through the flowing right-left-right handers that lead into Maison Blanche requires 100% commitment and ultimate precision, with severe punishment for getting it wrong. The exit of the Porsche Curves underwent significant change in 2020, with additional run-off added in the middle part of the section. This has turned the treacherous and claustrophobic sweeping left-hander into an open and sweeping corner, encouraging every little bit of road to be used on the exit. What it hasn’t changed is the terrific consequences for making a mistake
The Ford Chicanes
The final chapter in the 13.6km rollercoaster that is Le Mans is the Ford Chicanes. Two tight left-right handers with massive kerbs are all that separates the driver from the finish line. Watching the cars bounce over the kerbs in beautiful slow motion is certainly something to behold, but 24 hours of mistreatment can lead to suspension and steering issues. The drivers have to be attentive until the very end, lest they throw it all away in the last minutes of the race.
The Circuit de la Sarthe requires over 85% of the lap on full throttle, with the cars accelerating from less than 100km/h to over 300km/h five times each lap. The challenge of having a car finish Le Mans is in itself, an achievement.

The Classes

The WEC consists of three classes on track at once, resulting in three separate races on track each in their own battle for 24 Hours. The classes are split based on their car type, with LMH and LMDh machinery facing off in the Hypercar class, purpose built prototypes with a spec engine and gearbox battling in LMP2, and GT machinery racing in GTE. Each class has its own set of regulations, driver requirements, and relevance for the Le Mans event.

Hypercar

The current top class of endurance sportscars is Hypercar, combining cars built to Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) and Le Mans Daytona (LMDh) specifications. Fighting it out will be LMH machinery from Toyota, Ferrari, Peugeot, Glickenhaus and Peugeot, while Porsche and Cadillac will be racing in LMDh cars. The LMH cars are bespoke sportscars, designed to a strict set of requirements dictating maximum power, drag coefficient, and weight, amongst other parameters, intended to limit the cost of the category. LMDh machines on the other hand are based on the future LMP2 chassis offerings, with manufacturers able to develop their own engines and bodywork, aligning with the power and drag coefficients of LMH. As part of cost-cutting, the Hypercar class is also subject to a Balance of Performance (BoP) formula, to level the playing field and ensure good racing! Hypercars are a little slower than their LMP1 predecessors, with lap times around the 3:24 mark for the Circuit de la Sarthe, which is on par with the 2014 LMP1 cars.

LMP2

The second prototype class is LMP2, and provides an excellent platform for endurance racing on a budget. The LMP2 class features a spec drivetrain and gearbox, using a Gibson V8 producing 400kW, and a selection of three chassis to choose from, of which the Oreca 07 has been the chassis of choice. This ensures that the competition in the class is very tight, and often comes down to the drivers and the team’s performance instead of just having the best car. While LMP2 was capable of 3:25 lap times in years previous, part of the ‘stratification’ of classes with Hypercar’s inclusion, the LMP2 class has lost some power and had some weight added. This should put LMP2 at the heels of the LMH pace, but with laptimes outside the 3:28 mark.
LMP2 is the first class that must feature amateur rated drivers. The Amateurs must drive for a minimum of 6 hours in the car over the course of the race. This means that there's an element of strategy of when to use your amateur driver throughout the race, as the amateur driver is generally slower than the Pros. The pro drivers in this class range from up and coming talent, former F1 drivers, and some of the best sportscar pilots in the world, and with 244 cars in this class, LMP2 is sure to be a hotbed of action over the 24 hours.

LMGTE-Am

GT class cars are cars that are derived from production models, and feature some of the most iconic cars and brands battling it out at the top of the field. The GTE cars are on the border of aero dependency, and can lap Le Mans in around 3:45 in a professional driver’s hands.
This year is the last year of the GTE class, and features 21 cars in a Pro-Am category, with cars from Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Chevrolet on the grid. Despite the lack of a Pro category, the driver quality in GTE-Am is still incredibly high, with factory drivers, young stars, experienced champions and every level of experience in between on the grid, with each car featuring two Bronze or Silver rated drivers. With two amateur drivers, the strategy considerations multiply. While GTE-Am might be the class focussed on the least over the course of the race, the stories that come from this class are phenomenal, and it's well worth following.
The GT classes feature a range of different cars and configurations, and to equalise each of these against each other, the class goes through a process called 'Balance of Performance' or BoP. The organisers can adjust each individual car's weight, fuel tank, air restrictor, turbo boost pressures, and aero performance to alter performance levels to enable the different cars to race competitively. This can sometimes be contentious as every team will feel hard done by, but it is a necessary evil to having the variety of cars on the grid.

Innovative Car

Each year, there is the option for an Innovative Car, with untested or innovative technology, allowed to enter in it’s own category. In years past, this has allowed for entries from the Deltawing, or a modified LMP2 to allow amputees to race.
This year, the Innovative Car entry is a modified Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Next-Gen NASCAR, run by Hendrick Motorsports. The Next-Gen NASCAR features modifications to allow it to run safely on the Circuit de la Sarthe, and will be driven by multiple NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button, and Le Mans Overall Winner Mike Rockenfeller.

The Legends

Part of the allure of the Le Mans 24 Hours is the history, and the legends steeped in history over the course of its 88 previous editions. The race has had many headline battles in its history - periods of time where two or three teams went toe to toe for years, with the drivers, cars, and brands embroiled in these battles given the chance to elevate themselves above the rest, and show their prowess.
In 2019, we at /WEC, took our normal Le Mans Legends celebrations to a new level; each week, members of the community have been writing reviews on some of the closest, most fascinating finishes in Le Mans history! You can check out these reports below!

The early races were dominated by the Bentley company in their Speed 6, who won 5 of the first 7 races. Cars were separated into classes by their engine displacement, and the overall winner was based on distance covered. If two cars had finished with the same number of laps, the car with the smaller displacement was declared the winner. The race wasn't run during the second world war, and comparatively very little information is available on the stories of the early days of Le Mans.
After the second world war, teams such as Jaguar, Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston Martin became the dominant teams. This era featured the legendary Jaguar D type, the Mercedes Benz 300 SLR, the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, and the Aston Martin DBR1. Jaguar won 5 times between 1951 and 1957, followed by an era of Ferrari dominance. Drivers such as Mike Hawthorn, Stirling Moss, Juan Manuel Fangio, and John Fitch became household names as Le Mans became a battle between German engineering and British "garagistas".
Ferrari and Ford was the story of the 60's, with Ferrari winning 6 times straight before Ford won four in a row with the GT40 Mk II, taking their first win in 1966. The story of their rivalry is legendary in it's own right - Henry Ford had almost successfully bought out the Ferrari motor company, only to be knocked back by Enzo himself at the 11th hour. In retaliation, Ford planned to hurt Ferrari where it mattered most; on the track. The Ford GT40 was so comprehensively dominant that it won the 1966 edition 21 laps ahead of the next car back - a Porsche 906/6. None of the Ferrari 330P3's finished the race. This battle gave drivers like Bruce Mclaren, Dan Gurney, and Jacky Ickx their first Le Mans victories, and propelled them to the forefront of motorsport stardom at the height of motorsport's popularity.
The 1970's saw the dawn of Porsche, with the 917k taking the brand's first win in 1970, with the same car winning the following year in the hands of Helmut Marko (yes, that Helmut Marko). It would be 5 years before Porsche would win again, with Matra taking 3 victories in the interim, each at the hands of Henri Pescarolo. Porsche returned with the 936 and the 956/962c dominating the race for the next 20 years. In fact, from 1970, Porsche won 12 times in 18 events, including 7 in a row, and they miiight have been a bit cheeky about it. Amongst these 12 wins, there were 4 for both Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell, and two for IMSA legend Hurley Haywood, as well as the first win for the Joest team in 1984. This era coincided with the introduction, and subsequent destruction of the Group C sportscar formula, widely regarded as the best Sportscar championship regulations of all time. Porsche’s dominance was eventually ended by Jaguar in the XJR-9LM, at the height of Group C’s magic. Ickx's 6 wins at this stage had earned him the nickname 'Mr Le Mans', a fitting title for one of the best drivers in the world at the time.
GT cars became a force to be reckoned with at the end of the Group C era, with classes being split into LMGTP and LMP. McLaren and Porsche had wins in GTP cars, in the F1 GTR and the 911 GT1 respectively, while Porsche, BMW and Peugeot scored LMP wins. 1997 saw the first win for Tom Kristensen, while the following year Allan McNish took his first victory, starting their journeys into the legend books of Le Mans.
The 2000’s ushered in the era of Audi, with all 13 of their wins coming since the turn of the century. GTP was disbanded due to safety issues, being replaced by GT1 and GT2. Audi picked up wins in the R8, the R10, the R15, and the R18, often dominating the might of the Peugeot 908. Audi's dominance elevated not only their drivers to legend status, but also their team managers, car designers, and race engineers. People like Reinhold Joest (team manager), Dr Wolfgang Ullrich (Audisport director), Ulrich Baretzky (engine designer), Leena Gade, Howden Haynes (race engineers) behind the wall and Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen, Rinaldo Capello, Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer have become household names in the sport not only for their wins, but their longevity and domination. Audi's dominance was only broken by a win for Bentley in 2003, running basically an Audi under a British racing green skin, and Peugeot in 2009, before being ended for good by Porsche in 2015. After both Porsche and Audi left the top class, Toyota rose to dominance, taking the last 3 Le Mans events in a row!
Between 2015 and 2017, Porsche added to their victories, now holding a record 19 overall victories at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Audi trail with 13, with Ferrari, Jaguar and Bentley holding the next three positions. Toyota finally took their first overall victory in 2018, and have won every year since. Tom Kristensen is has the most victories at Le Mans, with 9 overall victories over his career with Porsche, Audi and Bentley, inheriting the title of Mr Le Mans.

2023.05.30 14:12 shrooms4dashroomgods Camping at Waimanalo Beach Park - Update

Couple weeks ago I posted on here for advice from anyone who has camped at waimanlo beach park. There was an overwhelming consensus that it was a bad idea, due to the homeless encampment and issues invokving theft.
Wellp, I packed up the kids, a couple of their friends, and the wife and took a chance. I did some research before hand, mainly on the police report map Website. To my surprise, there was barely any crime reported at waimanlo beach park this year. That was my main deciding factor.
We got there Friday at about 230pm. 1st thing we noticed were the homeless tents; however, they did a great job at keeping their areas clean. We finally got to our campsite and we were right next to a water faucet, sweet. I noticed a huge Splitter on it with couple hoses going to the camp, so i connected my hose to an avaliable port and that was that, no problems, and access to showers the entire time.
Beach was beautiful! Not crowded like bellows or sherwoods. There were large areas of open grass for the kids to play football on, and what else was good, was that the beach is closer to the campsites there, so it was easier for me to keep an eye on the kids when they swam. For our entire stay, the only time people from the homeless camp came out, was to fish during the day, grab water from the faucet or relax and admire the beutiful scenery.. At night they didn't come onto the campsites.
Friday night got a little hairy. I slept on a cot outside my the tent, under my 13x13 and was woken up by arguing at 230am. Some dude who wasn't a part of the homeless camp was all high trying to start shit with some chick that was part of the homeless camp. Another dude from the camp tried to calm dude down, but he wanted to scrap. they squared up a few times, but no punches. Cops came, dude calmed down, and that was that. Aside from his yelling, we were all G. What's funny is, after whatever he was on wore off, he and the homeless camp dude were having breakfast and chilln. Guess making amends? That night I also left out bait, in the form of an old fire pit. Left it were I burned wood, which was on a patch of sand about 30ft away from our campsite. Bugga was still there the next morning.
Saturday morning, I woke at 5am cause the homeless tent directly behind us was str8 bumping his music. I didn't mind, woke me up early enough to catch the sunrise. Made coffee, watched sunrise, got breakfast ready, then woke up the wife and kids. Saturday afternoon and night went amazing. Games, football and boogy boarding all day, music, campfire, smores and catching crabs and drinking all night. No homeless fights, nothing.
Sunday morning, same shit again with the loud music at 5am. But all G, I went right back to sleep and woke up at 830am. Woke up kinda scared cause I didn't secure the chairs, fire pit and jbl party box. But everything was still there in the morning. I even left my shades on 1 of the chairs by the fire pit by accident.
In summary, this was one of THE best camping trips I've brought my family on. I had a lot of bonding time with my kids. They were rarely on their electronics, and they were having a blast. Yes, the homeless camp was an eye soar, but they keep to themselves, and do a great job of keeping their area clean. Wiamanlo beach is clean, debri free and beautiful. The campsights have large grass covered areas that allow you to even play volley ball if you like.
If anyone decides to camp there, just smile, be humble, no make trouble and have some1 sleep outside on a cot to deter anyone with sticky fingers. Or buy a set of motion lights from Amazon for $30. I did both. Get ready to be woken up by music at early in the morning, but look at it as a gentle alarm clock.

2023.05.30 11:52 LewdMishap This might be my last week.

Whoever is reading this, you’re probably able to because I’m either already dead or that I gotta do something that might not end well. So, if any of these cases have occurred, I’d want to be fully outspoken and unfortified with who I am. Usually, I’d write a poem or song but this way guarantees that it won’t be up to interpretation. Plus, I’m definitely no William Blake or even Tupac at that lol.
Anyways…I’m the exact definition of a “very flawed individual”. My psyche is riddled with insecurities and fears. Regarding my body (even though they’ve improved), intelligence, my perception of the world and my place in it. I analyze myself WAY too much due to a fleeting self-confidence. As if my sense awareness is constantly evolving into a new species of neurosis. All of it stemming from childhood torment and a fear of being weak, hated or feared. So I feint a persona that I can barely call mine. The surface is taciturn, unbothered and austere. While I’m slowly corroding from the inside. Everyday I fight against my own decomposition to ensure that nobody sees what’s underneath. Having to constantly check myself. The last time that I didn’t, I ruined some great relationships. I promised myself that I’d die first before I became that man-child again.
Furthermore, I was and proceed to be the kid that you all know but never knew too much about. The one who would never have an issue with you, unless you have one with them. He’d talk to everyone but could never find the words to dig deeper into who you goals are. So he’d fraudulently say that has full disdain for the human race. Even though he would LOVE to just get to know you more and see what makes you unique or interesting! He’s just shy, introverted and socially anxious. Only betting on his sense of humor to survive. So some aspects of socialization are harder than most. There’s no charismatic bone in his body. Which is likely the reason why he’s never had an official GF before. He’s a fucking coward! He desires to show you the complete him. However if he did, an astute and good-natured person would qualify him as “too much trouble”. “Being yourself” doesn’t work! If it did, then nobody would be asking for support to improve. I can’t seem to describe his own personality! So many people see me as a bland and not worth their time. My sense of humor is the only personality trait that I can barely display properly.
However, my biggest fear isn’t even being alone…t’s being forgotten. Like I initially said, I’ve always felt as if nobody truly knows who I am. So, I rarely feel a sense of belonging around others. Which fuels all of my passions to a varying degree. I’ve been involved in many activities; such as powerlifting, martial arts, videography, music, football, poetry, acting, cooking, basketball manga/comics and writing. Although, I don’t want to just be good, I want to be great! Everywhere I go, I hear about how men are only valuable if they can leave an impact on their environment. That’s why I strive to be spread as much kindness as I can. It makes me feel a bit better about myself. It’s either that or I go beat something up. Those are the only things that make me feel alive. Circling back to having no personality; I’m a nice and funny loser. Now, doesn’t that sound like an incomplete character?? I may not require a “thank you” or an “IOU” but it feels good to receive one spontaneously. I understand what it’s like to feel lonely, unworthy and mediocre. However, I’m the one meant to be stuck in a self-destructive cycle, not you. Yes, my kindness is selfish but I did say that I was going to speak openly. You all have a gorgeous life ahead of you, while I’m meant to be a stepping stone. Just…just make sure that you remember the print that you left on me.
Recently, it’s like every minute of work that I put in just fucks it up even more. So all that I do is beat myself up for what I could’ve done differently. To think that I’m worthy of achieving great things. Ridiculous!! I REALLY thought that I was…a badass! That I had discipline, ambition, work-ethic and bravery. Maybe, I’m more deluded than I thought. I’ll be 23 next month and I’ve already fucked up my future. For instance, I worked my ass off with returning back to uni and found out that I can’t receive financial aid due to my advisor quitting. If I can’t get the where I want to be, my way…I’d rather cut my loses than fight a losing battle. Which sucks because I’m surrounded by other ambitious and hard working people. Who I bet my savings are going to be successful in all that they do. I’m not exactly envious but more dejected. Am I just that guy in the group that’s never gonna have his glow up?? I’ve tried therapy and counseling, nothing seems to work.
However, I will give myself some credit. You may call me weak and unhinged, but disloyal…that’s where I draw my line. The one thing that I pride myself on. If I say that I have your back…I FUCKING MEAN IT! I’ll go on a mission and start a war to help you out as much as I can. This even goes towards random strangers. However, how much can I genuinely change?? Trust and actually building a relationship is more important. Plus, nobody needs my help anyway. Which should be a good thing but...idk.
Anyways, this is too long already. You probably already have clocked out and stopped reading after the first paragraph. To put it simply, I’m not meant to live a long life. Save some resources for the next generation. (I’ll be printing copies out on Friday)

2023.05.30 11:46 throwawayTooth7 RIP Hopey, 9 1/2 year old Labradoodle

I grew up a kid with horrible allergies. Could never have a pet. Fast forward to I'm an adult and prior to my annual doctor appointment, my 10 yo daughter hands me a list of questions to ask him. On there is "Can we get a dog?". I'm thinking no way is he going to say yes. So I go and get tested for allergies and the doc says "Good news, you are not allergic to dogs anymore". Hmmm. That's interesting. So the wife and daughter start looking into dogs and to play it safe we end up getting a Labradoodle. She's been great. A few years later, they want another one. So we get one from the same breeder. Her name was Hope.
Hope turns out to be a very anxious dog. Always giving and wanting affection. She loved us more than anything. She was the playful, goofy dog. Did this mouth licking thing when she got nervous that was like slapstick comedy. I am an early riser and she always got up with me. Always there in the morning, wagging her tail, wanting and receiving pets. Sometimes I would try to sneak by so I would not wake her and have to give all of that attention. It's funny how now all you want is that "annoyance" back.
A few months ago, Hope, now 9 1/2 years old, was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph node. We had it removed, and she was on chemotherapy for a bit and did not tolerate it well. Last week she went downhill some more, and stopped eating. We spent most of the weekend at the vet ER and made the tough decision to put her at peace yesterday.
Now with her gone I am being hit very hard by how much I miss her. This morning I woke up and turned on the light where she would be sleeping and was sad she was not there to greet me. This little dog, so playful, so fun, so goofy, brought me so much joy. A pet I never thought I could have brought so much joy to my life.
I have gone through many stages of grief, sadness and relief. When she was first diagnosed, I thought "she will beat this, no way is cancer taking our Hopey." On Friday when she needed to go to the ER I still thought she would be fine and come out Ok. Then Saturday came and we found out she probably only had a few more days to live. We brought her home to give her some time with us and her older sister. But she had just gone downhill too much.
Early yesterday we made the toughest decision and put her at peace. I was relieved that the decision was made but was overcome with grief when the time came. When we got home the void became real. I'm trying to focus on how much joy she brought us but it's tough in this time.
I am posting this because I Hope (haha) it will help me with the grieving process. Thanks in advance for your emotional support.
Rest in peace Hopey. You brought us so much joy and we love and miss you so much.

2023.05.30 10:34 fe7xh Complaining about a line manager? Am I in the right?

Can i complain about my line manager? Will I actually get an outcome?
Hi everyone.
I think my line manageteam leader is bullying me and I have had enough. But I don’t know if I’m overreacting so I need some more opinions.
I work in the healthcare sector in the U.K. - funny because I thought that’s where mental health and physical health would matter the most but clearly not to the people I work with.
I’ve been working at my current workplace for nearly 2 months now. But I feel like I am being so nitpicked by my current line manager. I must also point out although maybe not relevant that I am an ethnic minority in my workplace. I was late once due to traffic (I catch the bus - a bus that only comes once every 2 hours from my town) so it takes me an hour to get to the town where my workplace is. I was 7 mins late to my work place that once. Btw for my job I don’t need to swipe in or swipe out, you work according to your schedule - and in my diary I had nothing on till 9 so me coming at 8:07 was not effecting my performance in any way. I just feel like this line manager of mine just wants to nitpick and find any excuse to tell me off as he’s very new to having this sort of power of authority. That’s the first example that’s happened. The second example, i asked him if it’s possible for me to have more days in the week to work from home ( I currently only have Friday as work from home) OR be moved to the closer office that is very close to my house if they really need me to come in (bc I’m a newbie) instead of travelling 2hours for 4 days a week - and this is because I am also still a newish mum. I explained to him that my child is still an infant (my baby is 9months old) and I just feel like it would help me so much to have that request accepted. He said he will look into it but never agreed to it. What annoys me is that it’s easily a request that could be done - as many in my position are given working options that suit them. Example 3 - Im doing my job very well and I have gotten so many positive feedback from other colleagues - but not one single positive feedback from my line manager. Which is fine but it just makes me think he really has it against me for some reason? One of my colleagues even told me to be careful as she thinks he really does not like me and it seems that he is nitpicking on everything I do and waiting for me to slip up. This was her observation. Now Idk what to think , this has sealed what I’ve been feeling. As I initially thought it might be in my head.
Now latest example, I’ve been diagnosed recently with IBD unfortunately, so more trips to the loo. and last Thursday I was late to our teams catch up meeting that was at 9. I messaged him saying I was going to be a few mins late - as I had something personal going on (I was too embarassed to mention my diagnosis at this point because I just am not comfortable with this man at all). He proceeded to berate me and say I’m always late. I said to him I’ve only been late twice since I’ve started working? And that I had a good excuse for both occasions. He replies back saying I am “arguing back instead of taking his feeedback on board” I was like ????? I said to him I am defending myself because I don’t think the way you’ve been treating me is fair. He then says he’s going to put the request I told him about on hold bc he thinks I’m underperforming? At that point I just stayed quiet and thought to myself I’m never going to win here. I then told him I was recently diagnosed with IBD and it’s affecting me a lot mentally and physically. He was like “what’s that” and then Googled it and said it out loud in such a monotone voice. “Irritable bowel disease” and he literally showed me no empathy or nothing? Is this normal? What should’ve been my dream job is now a place I dread going to. I dread going to work and I feel so on edge everytime I am there. All weekend I’ve been crying and not knowing what to do. I even had thoughts of just quitting and staying at home caring for my baby instead of going aomewhere where they are not willing to understand or make any sort of adjustment because my line manager has it in for me for some reason. Please advice on what can I do? Is quitting my only option? I have spoken to the cultural and diversity lead in our workplace for advice but she said to me that perhaps I’m just feeling really emotional recently and just taking things the wrong way. But I’ve been employed before in the same sector and I’ve never been made to feel like this? She also said it’s unfortunately just the way the U.K. hierarchy employment scene works - “UK work politics where you have to play the game and just try to get on his good books until he likes you” just like the other newbies that have started they have to suck up to the manager. But I don’t understand why we need to do that? Surely that’s not a normal thing? Is there nothing I can do? I feel like after speaking to her that no one will listen to me. Even the higher up managers are buddies with my line manager so I feel like it’s a case of his word against mine. It’s just never going to end up with the result I want. The result that I want is to have a different manager - I cannot deal with this man anymore. I’ve had enough. Please if you were in my shoes what would you do. Thank you

2023.05.30 08:08 Notlovinit1234 Venting kinda funny tho

I have hated a person for 8 years. I, Female 22, her -same grade. In highschol we met (im done college now) i dated someone she was friends with. She had a boyfriend of 8 months at the time. We will call him J. and Her O. O is the most evil woman I have ever met. Just rude to everyone and everything. I got suspended because she pushed me too far after a relative died and I punched her many times. Only regret not doing it harder. I knew Id get in trouble. I didnt care. I hit her on camera. And got to watch the replay in the office. I cried after to the principal and got off easy lol. O was pissed. J then dumped O. double lol. Years later I forget and move on. This b***** then posts on our local wants to know site on Face Book that MC donalds ice cream machine isnt working. Ppl complain about this all the time. But today our community is litterally on fire businesses burning down. She is posting about this. There is about 60 people roasting her right now. And I cant help but comment 3 gifs of people looking confused, pointing, then laughing. Needles to say today she has been made a internet joke by everyone she knows. And Itd really funny to me. Because she was so mean to everyone I ever knew. so haha. F her. All commenting Our home is on fire and your complaing about ice cream who raised you whats wrong with you etc etc.. Ive been saying this forever. Wtf is wrong with her. Everyone hates her that I know. And I just find it really comforting the fact that she still sucks. And got what she deserved when she grew up. I talked bad about her bc she talked bad about everyone ik and legit bullied ppl. So glad i get to watch it happen now publicly where I can take screen shots and send to ppl she used to bully. So they can laugh at her now.

2023.05.30 06:01 LucyAriaRose AITA for making a separate portion of stuffing for my son?

I am not the Original Poster. That is u/throwawaymom_12. She posted in AmItheAsshole.
Mood Spoiler: hopeful
Original Post: May 19, 2023
I (33F) am married to John (35M). Together we have a daughter (3F) and are currently expecting our second child together. We both also have a child from previous relationships: I have Liam (8M) from my previous marriage, and my husband has Ava (10F).
I make Sunday lunch for my family every week. On Friday, Liam asked if I could make stuffing without onions this week. Liam doesn't normally eat stuffing. He tried it a few times, decided he wasn't a fan, and that was it. He tried it with his dad the weekend before (we have 50/50 custody, so our weekends vary) and liked it. I agreed, and on Sunday made my son his own stuffing without onions. It's no big deal, after all, and I'm happy to make separate portions of anything if it means my children eat more.
This is where the problem starts. We sit at the dining table and John points out that Liam has stuffing on his plate. Liam tells him that I made him stuffing without onions, because he likes it without the onions. Immediately, I noticed Ava's mood sour, and when I pressed her, she asked why I didn't make her stuffing without onions when she'd asked about it months ago. Now, I'd understand where she was coming from if she'd actually asked but I had no clue what she was talking about. I said as much, and she told me that she'd brought it up with John, who said he'd talk to me. John never spoke to me about it, and told Ava that it was 'too much work' for me to take out the onions just for her.
John said he didn't tell me because he thought it'd be too hard on me, wanted to make things easier, thought I'd only say no anyway. He even said that it didn't make sense to make a separate portion for just one person. He said it was stupid that I'd even done it for Liam. He said the kids should learn to either make do with onions or not have stuffing at all, because not everything in life is going to go their way. I called him an idiot. I then went to the kitchen and got the rest of the onion-less stuffing for Ava to try.
Later that evening, Ava went back to her mother's and told her what happened, which caused an argument between her and John (and they're not on good terms anyway). John has been angry with me since. He says it's my fault Ava (and her mother) is mad at him. He says I should've just left the 'd*mn stuffing' alone, that I'm just spoiling my son by giving into him like that. There's been some name-calling, but I'd rather not repeat what he said.
Liam must have told Mike what happened, too, because he's told me that he thinks John is overreacting. John's mother and older sister think I'm an a-hole, but his brother has told me to just ignore him. My parents are also on my side, because they used to make separate portions for me when I was a child if I didn't like a specific ingredient. My sister told me to post on here to see if the majority think I'm in the wrong or not. So, I dread to ask, am I the a-hole for making a separate portion of stuffing to suit my son's taste?
Relevant Comments:
Has your husband been saying things to the children about food behind your back? Is it a behavior he exhibited with his ex?
"I hadn't thought about that. Liam hasn't mentioned anything, but I'll have to have a talk with him just in case. I'll ask his father if he's said anything about John, too. Thank you!"
"I definitely will. I'm in charge of pick up this week, so it'll definitely be addressed before I head home. I'll be stopping at Mike's place to talk with him and Liam about John, and then I'll talk with Ava and her mom when I pick her up. There have been a lot of helpful comments and I've realised I need to talk to John's ex, too, to see if this is behaviour that he exhibited when they were married"
Is this anger a pattern of behavior for John?
"He has always had a habit of calling names when he's angry, but he never used to get angry all that often"
"John hasn't always been this bull-headed. He's kind and funny, and he loves the kids. But I'll admit there's been a change in him over the last few months."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it. He is normally very good to us, but he has been quicker to anger these past few months after I found out I was pregnant with our second child together. Hopefully it'll get better after our talk. Thank you again!"
Did you call him an idiot in front of the kids?
"I'll admit calling him an idiot wasn't my best moment. I didn't say it aggressively by any means, but looking back it was wrong to do so. Definitely a slip of the tongue and not something I practice often (especially in front of the kids). I was just blown away, honestly"
OOP decides what else to do:
"Thank you. As bizarre as this argument has been, it's definitely been an eye-opener. I'm planning on showing him these comments tonight when our daughter is in bed. I also plan to have a long talk and air everything out before Liam and Ava come home tomorrow"
Can you teach the kids to make their own food too?
"That's another thing! Liam and Ava do sometimes help out when I'm making the dinner on Sundays. If they're not otherwise engaged (because holding a child's attention can sometimes be a battle), they'll help me with peeling the potatoes or stirring the gravy, etc. John has always been hands-off on Sunday dinners!"
OOP is voted NTA
Update Post: May 23, 2023 (4 days later)
Hi everyone. Before I begin, I just wanted to thank everyone for the overwhelming number of comments and messages I received as a response to my original post. Because of the support and advice that a lot of you gave me, I wanted to come back and give you all an update on how things have progressed since then.
On Friday night, aka a few hours after I posted, I sat down with my husband after he put our 3yo to bed to talk about what had transpired and why he reacted the way that he did. We spent fifteen minutes just reading through comments and messages you guys left, and John was ashamed. He was also very hurt that his reaction (i.e. the name calling) was, in the eyes of the majority, bordering on abuse. He was disgusted with himself.
Now onto the onion debacle. I'm not going to quote everything he said word for word, but it boils down to this: John's dad was very strict when it came to meals. You ate what you were given, and that was that. If John or his siblings ever expressed their dislike for something on their plate, even if it was just one thing, then the meal would be thrown out and they'd go to bed hungry. His dad drilled into him the same "not everything goes your way" mentality that John expressed last week. No one ever told John any different growing up. His mom followed the same rules even after his parents divorced. His dad remarried and John's step-mom was just as bad. If John wanted something, it was an automatic 'no' from her. John didn't tell me about Ava's request because he didn't want me to shut her down as coldly as he was. I guess it was two traumas with one stone.
Then it comes to the anger. Again, I'm summarising here, but John attributes it to stress. He feels overwhelmed with the kids and the pregnancy, and his work has been particularly busy over the last few months. He feels constantly frustrated and doesn't know how to bring that down. But then he asked a question that really blew my mind. He asked if I was having an affair with my ex-husband/Liam's father. Apparently his mom (lovely lady) made a comment about how close we were, how it was 'unnatural', and it's been playing on his mind since. I'll admit that Mike (my ex-husband) and I are close. We're friends. We have a child together. But we don't love each other anymore. All of this I told my husband. I asked if I did something to make him not trust me on that.
Well, after four years of marriage, I found out why John and his ex-wife hate each other. She had an affair. He didn't want to tell me because he was embarrassed and he wanted to put it behind him. He also didn't want me to hate her and maybe have that ruin my relationship with Ava, because it was his pain (his 'burden') to carry. He's bitter because she never apologised and blamed him for the affair. He's apologised profusely for the pain he has caused me and our children. I apologised for calling him an idiot. We both agreed no onions on Sunday.
Despite this exhausting and enlightening conversation with John, I still sat down and spoke with Liam the next day when I went to pick him up from Mike's. Liam said John has never said anything 'weird' to him, nor has he gotten angry/yelled at him, he's never raised a hand. Mike said that Liam has never mentioned anything to him about John. He also said that Liam still brings up the time that John took him and Ava to the zoo when I was pregnant with our youngest.
I also decided to go ahead and talk with John's ex-wife, Izzy. I asked her if John was ever 'hotheaded' when they were together, and she said that he'd get angrier with stress. I then asked about the affair, because while I wanted to believe my husband unconditionally, I needed to hear it from her side. She admitted it. She said that she 'connected' with a guy from her job. She said she doesn't feel guilty about it, because it felt like John was waiting for an excuse to leave, because that's exactly what he did. They argued, and he left, and that was it. Neither of them fought for their marriage, and Izzy's bitterness is mostly due to the fact that, when they were in the process of divorcing, John ordered a DNA test on Ava because the affair made him question if he was really Ava's father.
There were no onions on Sunday. John has agreed not only to couple's counselling but to solo counselling as well. We're also considering family therapy, but before we commit to it, I want to get Mike and Izzy's opinions since they're the other parent of our respective children. John has also apologised to both Ava and Liam separately for the incident. He made the stuffing this weekend with Ava, no onions. It was nice. John even apologised to my parents for being a no-show last week. It's been very stressful, but I love my husband. I believe that he can grow from this. I know him to be kind, and funny, and just a good man overall. I hope from the bottom of my heart that things will be looking up by the time we welcome our son into this world.
Thank you to everyone who has left comments and messages again. I genuinely believe that your advice may have helped save our marriage. Or, at the very least, given me the strength I needed to save it myself.

Teagan
My sweetheart. She’ll be 7 months old next Friday. She is SO funny! She figured out today that if she drops her ball down the stairs, it bounces all the way down and then she can chase it without needing me to throw it for her! I have been watching her play fetch with herself for the last 2 hours, having the time of her life 😂
