Looking for a place to practice music (specifically vocals and drums). I have been looking into storage units, curios if anyone knows of any storage units that allow this or wouldn't mind. Also curios if anyone knows of alternate options! Ideally closer to downtown or Hazel Dell would be best! Thank you!

2023.03.20 22:05 JustinHardyJ Advice for my first NAS build
So I'm making a NAS build predominantly for the purposes of streaming my Plex movie collection (varying file sizes and types, highest quality being 4K BluRay rips), with potential use later down the line for video editing from files on the NAS.
Here's what I've come up with so far in terms of parts:
Device | Name | Price | Reason |
OS | TrueNAS Scale/Unraid | €0/€60+ | So I'm still not sure which system is more advisable to use for my use-case. I've heard Unraid is much easier and more expanable, whereas TrueNas is more reliable/safe but has a harsher learning curve. Any thoughts here are appreciated. |
Case | Fractal Node 804 | €80 | Can hold up to 10 3.5" HDDs, which hopefully should provide me with all the expandability I'll need. |
CPU | Intel Core i3 12100 | €150 | Fairly cheap, modern CPU with Quick Sync video funtionality in case I ever need hardware transcoding for Plex. |
Motherboard | ASUS PRIME B660M-A D4 | €130 | Fairly cheap and compatible with 12th gen CPU (LGA1700 socket). |
CPU Cooler | Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO V2 | €30 | Cools the CPU :) |
Ram | 2x8GB Kingston FURY Beast | €45 | More than enough ram for Unraid and is the recommended amount of ram for TrueNAS. Can always be expanded in the future if needed. |
SSD | Lexar NM620 1TB | €50 | Honestly not 100% sure about the functionality of this component. Cache? OS drive? Boot drive? Something along those lines is what I read, I'd love for someone to let me know the primary use for this. |
Power Supply | EVGA 500 W1 | €45 | 500W should be more than enough power for a NAS. |
Display Emulator | DisplayPort | €10 | Apparently this is necessary if you want to do hardware transcoding. Do let me know if this isn't actually the case. |
| | Total = ~€535 | |
I haven't mentioned any actual
HDDs here as I'm currently mainly trying to figure out the actual NAS side of things before getting caught up in storage. However, from my research it seems that
16-18TB SATA drives are good value so this are likely what I'll go for -- in case that information is of any use.
So yeah, any recommendations? Changes? Additions? I would love to hear your guys' thoughts, especially on TrueNAS vs Unraid!

2023.03.20 21:58 Bekahlish Getting first duty station soon!
Hey guys! So my husband just got his jump wings this past weekend (YAY! So Proud of him) which means he has his MOS then we move! He should be getting his orders within the next month or so, but here’s the situation..
Our lease ends end of April. I was going to put our things in a storage until but I know the military helps with moves…
So I have a couple of questions. Since I have to pack myself, will the USMC reimburse me for supplies? Or can I have them move my things when the lease is up and have them hold it in a storage unit or something. I’m not sure how to go about this.
If anyone has been in a similar situation that would be so helpful! Feel free to comment or message me.
I’m staying with family in the meantimes when the lease is up so it’s not like I’m moving into another house lol
Thank you in advance!

So we always see the Akro-mills storage units and each draw is labelled with a printable sticker - why is it always a printable sticker?
I figure you could get away with just writing your remark in texta on the front of the draw..no?
What am I missing that makes the cost of printing labels worth it?

2023.03.20 21:33 imageryguy Tailoring 6 to 10
| I did most of the heavy lifting already, literally by collecting, cleaning, and sorting all the cloth into boxes. So, now the easy part. I started adding ripped sheets to Long Johns (and remove all patches) with Tailoring level 6 at 06:10 and reached level 8 by 08:00 (1 hr 50 minutes). Experience gain for each set of 11 (add then remove patches) usually gave around 200-220 experience. Then, I began reading Tailoring Vol 5 (380 pages) from 08:00 to 17:00 (almost 9 hrs total), for the 16x multiplier. Even with fast reader, this seems excessively long duration; at least it does not take days. I stopped for 10 minutes to water some crops that were crying for attention, well not literally crying, but meh. Then, I started ripped sheets adding and removing (11 at a pop) from 17:10 to 20:40, but I paused skillups mid-level 9 consolidate a box (78 capacity) of 780 thread for an hour, so 3.5 hrs minus 1, 2.5 hrs. With 27,500 total experience (level 7 is 4500, 8 is 6k, 9 is 8k, and 10 is 9k) divided by 200 (minimum exp per 11 sheets added then removed) equals 137.5, so around 138 x 11 (units of thread used each time) equals 1518 thread used. Maybe 35% (around 30 to 40 percent of ripped sheets returned) returned sheets also gave exp, so 1518 x .35 equals 531. In total, around 1000 ripped sheets and 1500 thread units were used to go from Tailoring 6 to 10 (could be lower due to varying experience gained by ripped sheets returned when removed). Tailoring 7 & 8: 1 hr 50 min; Tailoring 9 & 10: 2 hr 30 min; Total: 4 hrs 20 min Reading Tailoring Vol 5: almost 9 hours; Simply put, it took longer to read the book than it did to go from Tailoring 6 to 10. I mean, it was totally boring to do all of this in one shot, but there you go. And, as far as thread goes, multiple uses can be from each. If you select 1 thread from the stack and select Add To > Consolidate All, you will see exactly how many units/uses per 'full' thread (the answer is 10). Other multiple use items like bags of gravel, dirt, and some others can also be consolidated, to help with storage efficiency. My 78 capacity box of thread (780 mostly partial thread), consolidation reduced it down to 220 full thread (10 units each); thus, more than 500 thread can now be added to the container. Screenshot - Tailoring 10 complete: Woot, Tailoring 10 tldr: sorry for all the numbers, something something I made my underwears stronger submitted by imageryguy to projectzomboid [link] [comments] |
2023.03.20 21:31 70summers Any advice you can offer me in my situation?
Hey, I’m a 21M living in CA. Unfortunately I racked up some credit card debt during the end of 2021-beginning of 2022, and have been paying it down since. I actually just got approved for a consolidation loan through my CU, so my interest rate is about to drop from 24% to 13% on $7500 (2 year pay off plan if just making regular payments). Starting this month, I’ve been paying myself 10% of my income first, to save for future investments. Currently I make about $3100/month and after bills/monthly spending, I have about $400 extra, in addition to the $310/month saved (10% to be used for investments). Should I even worry about investing this extra money right now, or just pay extra down toward my debts till I’m free? Any ideas on what to invest my extra money into to watch it grow? I’m interested in a future in real estate, so I was debating starting out with REITS since I don’t have much money. My grandpa also owns an auto shop, so I’ve thought about maybe flipping cars. I’ve flipped auctioned storage units before with some success, but not too interested in doing it again. Kind of rambling at this point, so I’ll end this, but thank you in advance for all advice!

2023.03.20 21:28 Longjumping-Motor-10 Some tips and tricks to get you through Contagion Mode
One of the most intense achivements I’ve been through. I just want to share my experience and some tips and tricks that you may not know and can give an extra hand if you're trying to get this.
Regarding weapons and upgrades:
Upgrades Fast Forward: - get Stun Baton 3rd tree first 2 upgrades, get Grp 2nd tree with first 2 upgrades. Hand Gun 100% by chapter 7, riot gun 100% before ending, the rest is at your choice but forget about Stun Baton 2nd tree and last 1 expensive upgrade, GRP 1st tree and last 2 expensive upgrades and the other guns.
A. Stun Baton
- 3rd tree – get the first 2 upgrades as soon as possible - Increased Velocity Alloy Sheath and Block Break. Block Break will get you easily past by many enemies as they start to block quite fast.
- 1st tree – get the first 2 upgrades depending on your playstyle - Riot Control Swing and Damage Upgrade Level 1 (if you are a more melee style – get it on chapter 2 or 3, more stealth and guns approach - then do it later. I think I did it at starting chapter 7 - Colony)
- didn’t touch 2nd tree and didn't bother with damage upgrade level 3.
B. GRP
- 2nd tree - Energy – Get the first 2 upgrades as soon as possible (will help to have more energy)
- 3rd tree - Velocity – I just got the first upgrade and was enough for me.
- didn’t touch 1st tree, nor the last 2 velocity upgrades.
C. Hand Gun – I had it upgraded 100% at the the start of chapter 7. Prioritise ammo capacity and magnum rounds. I breezed through chapter 8 with alt fire and 80ish ammo capacity before final boss.
D. Riot Gun – I had it upgraded 100% by the end of chapter 8 before final boss / Ferris & SuperBiophage Ferris. Prioritise ammo capacity and magnum rounds.
General tips and chapter threats:
- use cloud save
- if you experience crashes, I never had any before I tried this mode, and if you're using headphones, be sure to put all audio off before the part where you had your crash. I had one crash on chapter 4 - Habitat, the one with the FANS, and 3 in the last chapter. You may also try to get online just for that part and then get back offline, I also did this and it worked.
- restart checkpoint if you’re about to die or use the cloud save if you died. You still have NG+ so you can give it another shot then.
- you may have auto-dodge activated but I don't recommend. The quick time events button can also be out to auto but I found myself pressing Y or A so don’t know what to say about this. Aim assist on the 3rd level may help with hitting targets but you move harder the aim as it auto-hard-locks. Probably 2 or 1 is better.
- don’t get too close to FANS or other dangerous environments as it can get you instakilled. Two Head and SuperBiophage Ferris will also do that to you.
- loot everything in the first chapters and run back to the store and try to sell as much as you can. Try not to sell ammo, better to use it on the mf biophages. It will be easier after chapter 5 - Lost, as you know you'll have more space.
- use grp on big mouths (spitters), corruptors (invisible enemies) and on the basic ones if you still have energy or batteries. Single basic biophage or even mutated? Then show him the love of your baton. Not having checkpoints it's harder than any mode because grp becomes more important than ever. I found out that after some cutscenes you may get a refill on your grp, but don’t count on that, consider it a bonus.
- sell injectors or drop them for more valuable loot. (energy converter, decoder, cpu printer)
- maintain a green healthbar, even by using injectors. Their cost is cut down to 33 callisto credits so you don’t lose too much if you use them from time to time.
- if you get surrounded, stay focused on the enemy that is about to attack and keep right or left for dodging. After his attack, shoot, grp or hit him and move to the next one. I got crowded on chapter 6 - Below when trying to get to the 2nd breaker, ran out of grp when pushing a blind to the wall and alerted the others. What fun I had with my heart pumping and all the sweating but I managed to get past them.
- get all blue chests, except the one with alternate path at the beginning of chapter 6 – Below. It’s too risky for this mode. Don’t open any in chapter 8, they have a parasite in it like the first blue chest in chapter 1.
- having hand gun upgraded to magnum will be helpful on sections where you fight them and when they start mutating with 2 bullets they are totally dead.
- be careful with your upgrading, if you focus too much on stun baton or grp you may not have enough credits to upgrade your weapons and get softlocked.
- if possible kill bloodworms without using ammo. There's one in chapter 6 after descending some stairs and a blind will be sleeping in front of you. I shot him down, waited for another blind to come and also shot him down and then I shot the bloodworm. Not big of a deal if it harms you, usually there's an injector near by.
- I didn't test if some enemies despawn after reaching different cutscenes. I played it safe and cleared most of them.
- if you go berserk in chapter 8 and kill most of the enemies with the hand gun's alt fire be sure to stomp them quickly as they may mutate. This is available everytime you use the alt fire.
Regarding chapters:
- Cargo – nothing mentionable.
- Outbreak – just don’t rush the stealth part with the Security Unit/Robot. Prioritise grp on spitters.
- Aftermath – take your time with the robot by having a box in your left, take two shots then cover and then take another 2 and cover. Repeat until it falls. I had the magnum rounds so it only took 4 bullets.
- Habitat – well, ladies and gents here you have the hardest part of the game. Water slide. With. FANS. I’ll get back to them. After the FANS you have another security robot. Wait for him to pass by then go and take cover after a box, I used the one at the entrance where your next objective is and also he turns around and continues his loop. At the end you have a video that I tried to use with the water slide part. Getting back to FANS. I knew this would be something that will blow me over as they go random. So my first attempt went smoothly without dying but I had my first crash after 3.5 playthroughs at the cutscene where Ferris appears at the end of the level. Started again, and this time I died. Started again and died again. On my next attempt I used the xbox button – pause/dashboard when I was approaching the FANS and you can somewhat make an idea of where the FANS are going. You may have some seconds to move but it will be enough. It may help to raise brightness and contrast at maximum. Not a 100% bulletproof option but I did it on my first attempt with the xbox button. Luckily, I didn't have another crash and I didn't do anything at this point.
- Lost – just keep an eye for combusters (explosive crawling ones) and use your 1 shot hand gun. After getting the riot gun you’ll have a spitter that will come from an elevator. Just shoot his leg, shoot again or stomp him. The next room has an instadeath spinner, don’t get too close but it’s very helpful to grp enemies in it. At the end you'll fly where you can get a instadeath if you're not paying attention. This part is easy - left, right, left, right, left then A.
- Below – stealth all the way. I mean crouch on almost every part of it. Silently kill every blind one, almost all. With 3-4 you'll need to pull out your gun or baton. You don’t want to get ambushed here, especially when they can mutate. There’s a section with a spitter that is walking so be crouched as if you alert him he’ll bring more blind ones. Grp him as soon as you see him. You'll get through a next section where you're on top of a collapsed floor and many blind enemies are sleeping, run for the exit and in the next room you'll have 2 spitters. Shoot their legs and they will instantly die. And next you'll have 2 crawling enemies coming to you - grp the explosive tank at them and grp or shoot the other one that will spawn. For the tram ride have at least 2 grp batteries, 3 is best and with the upgrades I wrote about you'll get by quite easily. With the Two Head I used CarcinogenSDA's strategy and pushed him down the drill.
- Colony - Stealth where you have blind ones and get aggresive with the others grp/gun. Before 2nd Two Head buy ammo, I had the alt fire for the hand gun (40-50 ammo) and used like 4 shots before he fell and another 2 and I switched to riot gun (magnum upgrade - 30 ammo) as I noticed in hardcore that is does more damage in his second phase. Well, just run around and shoot him on the long side of the box. If you by any chance get cornered and can't run, just dodge and shoot his heads/head. If a biophage appears, prioritise to get him killed and focus again on the Two Head. Don’t fight both of them, in hardcore as I was dodging the basic biophage, Two Head pinned me down. At the end you'll fight Ferris, dodge all the way 3, 4, 5 times as many as it takes and only when you see him retreat then beat the crap out of him. Dodge => Beat.
- Tower - I mostly used my hand gun's alt fire on all enemies where I didn't use grp. Those all saved credits made life easier on this chapter. Before the 3rd Two Head stock up on ammo like on Colony and you know the drill, run in a circle and shoot when you are far away. If you're cocky you can put one shot on the turn side but don’t get too cocky. Before the 4th Two Head you will have 1 spitter and another biophage sleeping. Run near the first fan on the left, wait for the spitter to jump in front of you and grp him into the FANS, next shoot the sleeping one that's in your left, he'll pop in front of you and again, grp him. If you just walk a little you'll hear a combustor and the last Two Head will come to salute you. I usually run to FANS in front of me and walk a little to make him come through the last hallway and I'm waiting him in the corner next to the FANS. Stay where you are, but if you want the alt fire for the riot gun I suggest doing what I did, and push him to the FANS. Else shoot that mf. And when I was riding the lift with Dani to get to Ferris, guess what? I had my 2nd crash. Then my 3rd crash. Then my 4th crash and also my 2nd death as I was pushing the Two Head to the FANS he lost one head and when his animation stopped and attacked me, somehow he went to my left and I dodged directly in to the FANS. Did I tell how much I love FANS? On my 4th attempt I found out that putting audio to off may help with the crashes as I'm playing with headphones and I also went online just to get by this part. It worked. Looted everything, upgraded my riot gun's alt fire and it was not quite a walk in the park as Ferris may give you 7-8 hits to dodge and when he transforms you need to look after the combusters to throw at him or just kill them. After 2 alt fires the first 2 appeared and I just had to keep him walking and not letting him run. The alt fire of hand gun or riot gun will stop him when he gets running. I also threw at him the explosive barrel, because why not?
Helpful videos:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=QrPR5WTSr-M&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE Water slide section. With FANS. Even though it's random, it may help you get an idea of where to position yourself.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=aI30iVavBsc&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE CarcinogenSDA's video is on maximum security and he uses checkpoints for his grp recharge. You won't use the grp as he does and won't upgrade it either to max. But he has sections that will help you if you're struggling. You also can see how to deal with 1st and 4th Two Heads.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=StNS0wvRS78&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE I didn't try this but if it helps, why not?
So that's it, you'll probably win one of the hardest achievements. Probably.
If I may, when you finish, play Survivor - The Eye of The Tyger. You'll get it.
Don’t worry. You've got this. FANS.

2023.03.20 21:09 yaycupcake FE Engage PMU
Doing a PMU for my second run.
Unit requirements:
- Please give me at least 2 magic users and 2 physical weapon users.
- Please give 2 healers at least.
- Pick Emblem rings/bracelets for the character you pick. I have the DLC and they are fair game.
- Don't pick specific bond rings because I don't want to deal with RNG hell. (I know it can be manipulated, I just don't want to do it.)
- Pick final class as well as reclass path. Please specify which weapon specialty for classes that have options.
- Optional but helpful, give me a recommended weapon/inventory loadout.
Not allowed:
- Default class Alear and first royals and Fogado/Hortensia, Sword Mage Knight Clanne, High Priest Anna. Used these in particular a lot already and I want variety.
- More than 2 units in the exact same class, or 3 units in the same general class with different weapons. I want some variety.
- Unpromoted final classes unless they're the special ones that go beyond 20.
Other stuff:
- I reserve the right to use Framme as a healer until the first one is recruited/reclassed.
- If I have less than 3 total units (4 if I get to ch10 like this, PLEASE don't give me "Everyone from Fogado's group and later") I'm allowed to pick a temporary filler in their default class until the next picked unit joins. This isn't an Alear+Framme early/mid game solo lol
- I am going to allow using any character on their join chapter but bench them afterwards if they're not picked.
- Also allowing recruiting characters not picked for their inventory or paralogue exp/items. Same for Emblem paralogues and DLC paralogues.
- For chapters where specific rings are required or unavailable I might improvise but will use the picked rings for everything else. For example I may use a DLC ring or random bond ring on an Emblem Ring paralogue for the unit usually paired with them. Same for chapters prior to that ring's availability.
- I am okay with super powerful units and meme builds as long as there's at least 2-3 non-meme builds that aren't just support.
- Seadall (dancer) is NOT required but obviously appreciated. Same for Byleth ring.
- I suck at FE so I am gonna try hard difficulty but if I get stuck I'm switching to normal. (sorry im a fake).
- I will probably grind if I need to.
- May or may not use the well.
- On maps with lower deployment slots I will pick whichever of the units I get depending on the map based on what I feel like doing.
Units:
- Alear (class/ring needed)
- Jean - Halberdier - Sigurd
- Amber - Axe General - Hector
- Anna - Axe Mage Knight - Camilla - Hurricane Axe
- Veyle - Thief - Corrin
- Framme - Sword Griffin Knight - Leif
- Merrin - Sage - Soren
- Alcryst - Martial Master - Lucina
- Seadall - Dancer - Byleth
- Yunaka - Warrior - Eirika
- Jade - Axe/Sword Wyvern - Lyn

2023.03.20 20:52 SwingTraderx 11/22/63. Best mf love story ever, absolutely heartbreaking. What do y’all think of the book?
2023.03.20 20:45 Eleganos A technical, non-moralist breakdown of why the rich will not, and cannot, kill off the poor via a robot army.
Preface/TLDR: My arguments below aren't based wholly in some nebulous belief in human goodness.
I accept the shitty realities of human civilisation, even as someone who does try to see the bright side of life.
However, those are by and large evils caused by malicious negligence in some cases, and scrupulous selfish opportunism in other.
Neither of which would be present in a 'kill the normies' plan.
Rich people do not see themselves as a collective in-group, and they are not want to sink God knows how much of their hard earned resources into making an army of Death bots when their collaborators could rat on them at any time and initiate a corporate takeover or monopoly thanks to their no longer existent competition. Or to satisfy some petty personal vendetta. Or get good pr. Or any other number of immediately gratifying selfish reasons that, while screwing over the majority's plans for global genocide, would dramatically improve the life of whoever screwed them over.
Rich people are not known for being cooperative team players.
The 'cull the poores' scenario isn't plausible for solely moral reasons. It is just impossible on a technical and logistical level.
To elaborate...
I'm not denying rich are shitty, and I won't deny some places have it bad, or that some rich people WOULD kill the poor if they could.
I just deny the sheer ludicrous scale of what would be needed to formulate, prepare, and execute a 'kill the normies' plan.
It assumes that...
- Rich people possess the capability to unite, coordinate, and execute this plan simaltaneously
This first hurdle is what really makes it impossible since, even assuming the other points I'll mention are met, the rich would need to operate a collected unified front with perfect synchronicity and no opportunism backstabbing or short sightedness for the plan to work.
If it isn't synchronized, it gives the human race a chance to see the knife being drawn and do something before the rich try to thrust it into us.
If there's backstabbing, namely infighting, it'd Drain their resources AND give us that moment of realization in one. Assuming the plan isn't just killed in its infancy or that they don't mutual kill each other in some sort of wealthy civil war.
If there's incompetence on their end, say they get sloppy and the CIA finds out about the rich illuminati planning on killing us all. Or they recruit Elon Musk and he decides to betray them all so he can stoke his ego by being remembered in history as the man who saved humanity, or they fuck up and their killer robots/AGI become free before the butchery can begin, then they'll just be fucked.
And that'll be it. The moment we find out they tried and failed to kill us all
enough people will be pissed off and willing to throw hands that they won't get another shot.
- All rich people, without exception, are willing and eager to murder all non rich people.
Rich people are disproportionately evil. They are not universally evil.
This is a statistical reality.
Even if there's only 1% out of them all who have working moral compasses and would not be down for the mass genocide, when we're talking about what would need to be a global conspiracy, that's more than enough for one of them to be recruited into the conspiracy, or otherwise learn of it through other means, and utilize their resources and political power to counteract it.
Even if only, as I pointed out with my Elon Musk example, to assert themselves as the neo messiah/s who saved humanity from the other, evil rich people.
- Rich people would require the logistics to enact this mass culling.
Hundreds of millions of murder bots don't just pop out of thin air. Unless the rich are using nanotechnology or bioweapons to do the culling, they'd need whole factories producing advanced robots, weapons, munitions, supply chains, ecetera. All of which would be glaringly obvious unless they had some bonkers tech to just completely wipe all evidence of this buildup from the face of the earth. And at that point they might as well use that same tech to just increase their power in the current system and steal from the other rich to become that much richer that much quicker.
Billions of people equals trillions of bullets, trillions of microchips, metrics fucktons of steel and plastic and circuitry and God knows what else. It requires hundreds of factories and dozens of shipping route configurations to transfer materials between them all
And this is all without getting into where the fuck they're storing these murder robots/drones to begin with. You can't exactly hide a fighting force big enough to literally end 90% of the human race in a couple of warehouses. You'd need a whole city's worth of storage at the absolute bare minimum. Assuming they sprang for exclusively compact drones and not the outright terminators lots of people seem to be imagining.
- Governments would need to do nothing.
I'm not even arguing 'governments will protect the people!' I'm arguing 'If this can be done, the American government and military industrial complex will just do it first.'
Because I can actually buy the American government, for example, hashing out the logistics, the coordination, and enacting the plan with the motive of imperialism and enforcing an authoritarian peace/rule over the planet.
At the least, if the tech existed to just churn out robot armies, en-mass, first world nations would be building up artificial fighting forces with that tech to levels comparable to the rich's secret army of Doom. Armies that would definitely be used to achieve zero casualty precision military campaigns in foreign lands. In regions that had been previously unconquearble due to the death toll, morale tax, and corruption issues in previous attempts at subjugation.
If nothing else, this would be a litmus test and a big red flag to anyone with half a brain and ability to discern the consequences of it.
Especially if it came out that rich people were churning these killer robots out en mass for 'reasons'.
And all this is without asking what happens when some poorer governments who weren't let in on the plan and subverted by the rich (under the logic of 'fuck em, they're poor, who gives a shit') turn out to have secretly squirrels away a few nukes. With which they could enact a forced peace under M.A.D or ruin the days of the perpetrators who caused this shitstorm as a final middle finger.
- Rich people would actually need to be motivated to do all of this.
Rich people in this scenario are essentially the illuminati, with full control over all governments, the ability to magic up a world ending army out of thin air, and all done in complete cooperation with each other with a single Game of Thrones backstabbing waiting in the rafters.
At that point...why do they need to kill the poor...
Like, what do the actually gain from it?
More land?
More resources?
They can get infinite of both. And could kick anyone they wanted dout of their land at a moment's notice.
To get more money? To rid themselves of the proles?
There are easier ways to do the former now that they basically own the planet from the shadows with their secret army of Doom, and if they kill all the poors then they aren't rich anymore. Their lives literally wouldn't change other than them being on the same level as each other, which when considering all the egomaniacs amongst them...would not end well...
This whole scheme would be more trouble than it'd be worth. Yes, most rich entities are shitty and commit crimes. But, if you'll notice, they haven't exactly been taking over any countries single-handedly as of late. Or trying to overthrow their own nations. Because it's more headache than it's worth. Why risk everything for a plan that wouldn't really personally enrich you all that much.
Cause remember: they all have to share their 'winnings'amongst themselves after rthe normies are dead. And if there's one thing thing the rich hate. It's sharing.
- They need to be perfectly fair and generous and cordial to each other once all is said and done.
So, 1% of humanity is left alive. All of them rich and whoever else those rich might want to keep around.
They now have to 'divvy the spoils'.
In what world does this not end with them turning on each other at the end so they can 'win more?
They've already illustrated an insanity beyond anything previously demonstrated din the history of the human race. The butchery of the whole species just so they can be the kings of skull mountain.
Except they aren't the kings yet. Oh no, there's still thousands of lesser rich people trying to hog that land and money.
And so, with no more external enemies left to unite them, they'd do what humans have done time and time again in comparable historical situations: turn on one another.
At which point they're liable to just end up wiping each other out.
So even in a scenario where, by some absolute ridiculous miracle they 'win', they've still not won just yet.
And if they've not killed off all the poors. If a few thousand survived through the 80,000,000 separate one-in-a-million chances that occurred throughout the cull of 8 billion, and if the rich deplete themselves enough over their mutual fights with one another, thinking themselves fre eof any other potential threat, then the proles might yet get their win.
So even in the perfect, impossible scenario where they win. The proves have an equal, if not more enjoyable win condition for the aftermath of the global cull.
In conclusion: I don't say this scenario is dumb because I'm a hopeful optimistic who has unwavering faith in human goodness (though I won't deny it either)
It's just not a plausible scenario that's feasible outside of a dystopian sci-fi novel.
If you like theory crafting it, or you enjoy thinking up ways it could happen and debating over them, then you do you.
Just be honest about the fantasy that is this scenario.
It's not going to happen.
And if you really thought it was going to, then you'd be a fool for seeing it coming not actively working on an escape plan so you can be one of the one-in-a-million lucky survivor's who'd slip through the cracks.
That's basically everything I've to say on this.
I await the inevitable responses on how I'm dumb and wrong and I gladly anticipate the voices of those who concur or otherwise have something new to add to the discussion.
(This post is not a personal attack on anyone, just the bad take. It is not meant to insult or denigrate any parties.)

2023.03.20 20:43 terencebogards Question(s) About Grandfather's Service in Engineer Corps in Pacific Theater - 1943-1946
Hey Reddit,
Been diving back into the scant records of my Grandfather's service as part of the 340th Engineers in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1945. I've found some incredible sources but there are some very confusing points that leave my unsatisfied when it comes to finding as close to what really happened as possible. Basically, before I bring some of these stories and photos to my grandmother and/or family in general, there are a few sticking points that leave me scratching my head.
I don't expect any of you to do additional research or help me in unreasonable ways, but I would assume there is some collective knowledge about how units were assembled, named, divided, etc during this time. I've just gotten to the point where I'm looking at literal bridges he might have built and I can't stop thinking I could be on the wrong path.
If you don't want to help or care about my search, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO check out some of the sources below! The Books from the 340th Group are absolutely amazing records. ----------------------------------------
My grandfather joined the Army Engineers after (I'm assuming) one last hurrah of an Independence Day, signing up for service 7/5/1943 in Syracuse, NY. We have notes and discharge papers, but there are a few discrepancies between the sources I've found, his separation papers, his notes, and general internet records. I'll list some of the great sources I've found before.
I *think* they give me most of the story, but again, raised a few more queries... examples:
1. His notes and discharge papers both say he was part of the 340th Engineers Construction Battalion, *however* his notes also list -
"
340th ENGRS to 5251 ENGRS (1944)
596 ENGRS (1944)"
I cannot find any existence of a "5251" or "5251st" unit anywhere in WWII records. There seems to have been a "596" / "596th" Airborne Engineers Company that served in the European Theater which makes 0 sense to me.
https://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/596/596.html It's possible these notes are tracking where a friend ended up, because NONE of my Grandfather's notes show any service anywhere except South Pacific. This is a sticking point to me that I cannot make sense of. His Note - https://imgur.com/a/4jP9Tzq
2. Following the "340th Engineers" path led to my first positive result when I began searching, but just like Bender finding his cigar had burnt down Zoidberg's house - "That just raises further questions!" - Hermes
In the two absolutely incredible sources I have listed below that follow the 340th Engineers through the war, I finally found my grandfather's name listed.
THE PROBLEM - Book one on the 340th (
Lower Post or Freeze) follows the 340th Engineers from 1942-1943 in a 16month expedition to Alaska and BC, Canada where they constructed a highway. When this mission was completed and they were called back, they traveled to Camp Sutton, NC in 1943.
THIS is where my grandfather undoubtedly joined up with the main unit, makes total sense.
What doesnt make sense is that he is in the FIRST book only, and not mentioned ANYWHERE in the second book... This omission, coupled with the confusing notes mentioned in Point 1, are my biggest source of doubt when I want to see
Book 2 - 340th Engineers In The Pacific as a definitive record of his service in the war.
In
BOOK 1, my grandfather is listed under "B Company". Again, he is NOT in
BOOK 2, but
BOOK 2 has some absolutely breath taking documentation on, not only the 340th as a whole,
but of bridges and runways built by B Company. Take the confusion out of play and I have found a holy grail of documentation on my grandfather's service.
Leave the confusion in and I cannot allow myself to get too excited about what I have found because I just
CANT know for sure. His notes include names of some commanding officers and not a single one shows up in
BOOK 2.
----------------------------------------
CONCLUSION:
IN ALL FAIRNESS - I BELIEVE BOOK 2 ACCURATELY DESCRIBES MY GRANDFATHER'S SERVICE, AS THE DATES AND LOCATIONS MATCH HIS NOTES EXACTLY. FROM STARTING AT CAMP SUTTON, GOING TO DARWIN, AUS, THEN ONTO NEW GUINEA, LEYTE, AND MANILA.
I'm fully ready to call this search completed, but I would LOVE any sort of additional clarification before I would show this book definitively as a good record. I don't really understand how units, battalions, companies, corps are defined or used in these senses. I believe 340th was his battalion, B Company, but idk any more really.
I know this might seem like an arbitrary distinction and a single error or omission of him in
BOOK 2 could explain this all, but that omission coupled with his confusing notes on unit numbers just leaves me very unsatisfied.
Hopefully you can see that I'm earnestly trying to figure this out and not just trying to have someone do the work for me. I believe my mother has tried to get records before but its possible they were lost in the massive fire that destroyed 16 MILLION records some time in the 1970s. I honestly don't know what other records there would be besides his discharge papers and notes. Nothing could possibly be more substantial than
BOOK 2. I've set up an account for my grandfather on Together We Served but obviously finding contemporary vets is not easy, and even children of these vets are beginning to pass from old age.
I lived with my grandfather from age 3 until his death in 2004 when I was around 13/14. He was like a father to me. I'm the most tech savvy person in the family who is this interested in this, so I would really love to have a definitive answer for my family members, but again, I understand that might not be possible.
REGARDLESS OF MY SEARCH - I HOPE YOU CAN ENJOY SOME OF THE AMAZING SOURCES I HAVE DISCOVERED AND LINKED BELOW!!!
----------------------------------------
From his notes, I believe his service went like this -
7/1943 - Enlists in Syracuse NY
8/1943 - ? Camp Claiborne, LA
? - 2/1944 - Camp Sutton, NC (Joined up with 340th and headed to Vancouver, WA)
1944 - Darwin, AUS (Built B29 Base for Bombing Raids)
9/1944 - Milne Bay, New Guinea
9/1944 - 10/1944 - Arrives at Tacloban, Leyte - Set Up ENGR Supply Depot - (Either before or after "largest naval battle in history" in Battle of Leyte Gulf", My Note)
1/1945 - Manila / Luzon
12/1945 - Left Manila/Luzon
1/1946 - Camp Stoneman, CA after Operation Magic Carpet

Thanks for reading!
This kind of all started when I listened to Dan Carlin's "Supernova In The East" and kept hearing names and places I had seen in our records. Once I started cross referencing my grandfather's records with the actual history my interested skyrocketed. Grandpa never spoke much about the war and I don't intend on reveling in the horror he might have seen, but I would truly love to be able to "know" these stories I'm reading are somewhat accurate to his experience.
EDIT 1: I removed the full discharge papers out of abundance of safety. I will re-upload selective parts ASAP. My grandmother depends on his remaining vet benefits for housing and would never want to jeopardize that.

2023.03.20 20:42 lizbutt2020 Sim racing build
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Mostly iracing and other sim racing games
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
Just for PC I am trying to get under $600. But I do not want it to be outdated immediately in a year so want it to last a while also.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
As soon as possible.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
I really just need a tower.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
United States - Louisiana
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I don’t have anything and honestly know very little.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Maybe down the line to keep it somewhat up to date.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Just to run racing games smoothly. Whatever low cost set up can get that done and last for a while is what I am looking for.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No preferences
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Yes this will need to be included.
Extra info or particulars:
As said just a low cost machine to play iracing and other racing sim games. Want to go as low cost as possible but not be outdated and no be able to run games in a year or two. Graphics etc are not a huge deal to me.
Thanks in advance.
