2023.03.24 05:40 Fastt-n-curious Taxes situation for both full-time jobs
Hi everyone, I’m a US citizen and I’ve been working remotely in Denmark for a US company on and off and the past year on a tourist visa (I know I’m not supposed to). I plan to immigrate to Denmark through Family Reunification soon, however still want to keep full-time role in the U.S and get another full-time role in Denmark. I could make both jobs work due to the timezone difference and I only manage to do my remote job in the U.S only for 2-3 hours a day. My residency is in California.
- How does the taxes work if I work two full-time roles from two different countries?
- Can I claim FEIE for my salary portion in Denmark to avoid double taxation and still pay regular US taxes for my W-2 remote job?
If anyone experienced this situation, please give me some insights, thank you so much!

2023.03.24 05:13 Outrageous-Chart-639 Is claims adjuster trainee (auto) position with progressive a good entry job into claims if ultimately I’d like to become a property/catastrophe adjuster?
I have been really interested in making a career pivot to become a property adjuster. I have a construction and customer service background but no degree or experience in claims. I’ve been applying to trainee positions with various companies like travelers and farmers but have been denied without interview. I did get an offer from progressive but it is for an auto claims adjuster position. Is this a good resume builder to eventually get me to the property side?

2023.03.24 04:48 anonymous0271 Wanting to be a substance abuse counselor, where do I begin?
Wanting to be a substance abuse counselor.. no idea where to start!
I’ve always had a passion for helping others, growing up around addiction and seeing how it’s impacted me, I’ve had a desire to pursue a career to help others. I won’t be doing this for a year or two, as I’m having a child this summer and am wanting to adjust, but want to know what active steps I can take to be prepared. I’m in college for a degree in sociology, but am really not one for school😂 that sounds funny but I just truly don’t enjoy schooling to the extent I’m taking it, as I did college and HS at the same time to get credits for an associates, and now pursuing a bachelors. I’ve seen many things saying you don’t need a degree for this job, but also a lot saying you do, so I am confused what is accurate! I would love to get certified and pursue but just don’t know where to even begin! Aside from the job details itself, I don’t know what a typical salary would be, or if there’s any advancements as well! Of course I would love a decent living wage, 2 income household here so I don’t need to be the sole breadwinner so I have a lot more leeway pursuing a career I love, vs one I financially need.

2023.03.24 04:39 PotatoCow0113 [CA] Contradictory Evidence In Small Claims
Location: California
I am scheduled to appear for a small claims trial in June for a diminished value case against a driver that hit and ran my vehicle. I had a diminished value appraisal done that valued my diminished value at $9,000 for a $13,000 repair on a 2022 Model 3.
But their insurance also got a "third party independent" appraisal that valued my diminished value at $1500 (wtf?). I have pointed out many flaws and mistakes in their appraisal (outdated CARFAX, unjustified subjective numbers, using retail value instead of fair market value, etc.).
Small claims in California does not allow for counsel and this is a non-jury trial. I doubt they will bring any expert witnesses since the adjuster and their appraiser are all the way in Alabama. So in this situation where contradictory evidence is brought to a judge, how is the case decided?
What are my options to strengthen my claim? Would it be enough for me to just point out factual mistakes in the insurance's appraisal to the judge myself?

2023.03.24 03:58 _The_Crow_ Honda LB Works NSX-R In Depth - Season 176
Greetings, Reddit Ensemble! The current's season Prestige Cup cars are the Honda LB Works NSX-R (Purple and Gold Star). They were initially introduced in season 163 (September 15, 2022 - September 29, 2022) (OTA Update 4.0.x) as Crew Season (Top 10 Crews) and Milestone (20M Crew RP milestone) Prize cars.
Both cars will need between 2 and 4 stage 6s in order to beat the Cup or you can get thru the Cup with all stage 6s, uncommon (green) and almost all rare (blue) fusions fitted. Don't forget to claim your free Prestige Cup crates in Rare Imports, but before doing so, claim the stage 6 from Race #28, to avoid duplicates.
The Honda LB Works NSX-R is an amazing tier 4 car, that will serve you well in live racing and in the Tempe5t challenges, but for Tempe5t, you will need to completely max the car. It's not only part, but is the fastest car for the current Championship ShowDown.
Honda NSX:
In 1984, Honda commissioned the Italian car styling house Pininfarina to design the concept car HP-X (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental), which had a C20A 2.0 L V6 engine in a mid-mounted configuration. After Honda committed to a sports car project, the company management informed the engineers working on the project that the new car would have to be as fast as anything coming from Italy and Germany. The HP-X concept car evolved into a prototype known as NS-X, which stood for "New", "Sportscar" "eXperimental".
Honda settled on a non-VTEC, 3.0-liter double overhead camshaft 24-valve V6 engine selected for the production model. This engine generated a maximum power output of about 250 hp (186 kW; 253 PS) and 282 N⋅m (208 lb⋅ft) of torque, with a redline of 7,300 rpm. However, at the same time, Honda was working on its revolutionary VTEC variable valve timing system, with plans to release it on the company's home-market 4-cylinder Integra. Honda's then-president Tadashi Kume, himself a highly skilled and respected engine designer, questioned the NS-X designers' logic in foregoing the VTEC system for Honda's new flagship sports car, while it was being used on the lower-market Integra. As a result, the engine was redesigned very late in the development process "to achieve the desired levels of performance and durability"; Honda designed a new cylinder block with 6-bolt main caps and larger cylinder heads to contain the complex VTEC mechanism. Innovative connecting rods made from a titanium alloy were used to lower reciprocating weight, while increasing overall rod-strength—something which increased the engine's maximum rpm by 700, resulting in a final redline of 8,000 rpm. A consequence of this last-minute engine change was that the new C30A engine was too large to fit in the NS-X's engine bay, which had been carefully sized for the smaller heads of the non-VTEC DOHC 3.0 liter engine. As a result, the engineers were forced to tilt the entire engine backward approximately 5 degrees- a characteristic that continued all the way to the NSX's final production in 2005.
The exterior design had been specifically researched by Uehara after studying the 360-degree visibility inside an F-16 fighter jet's cockpit. Thematically, the F-16 came into play in the exterior design as well as establishing the conceptual goals of the NSX. In the F-16 and other high performance aircraft such as unlimited hydroplanes along with open-wheel race cars, the cockpit is located far forward and in front of the power plant. This "cab-forward" layout was chosen to optimize visibility while the long tail design enhanced high speed directional stability. The NSX was designed to showcase several automotive technologies, many derived from Honda's F1 motor-sports program.
The NSX was the first production car to feature an all-aluminium semi-monocoque, incorporating a revolutionary extruded aluminium alloy frame and suspension components. The use of aluminium saved nearly 200 kg (441 lb) of weight over the use of steel in the body alone, while the aluminium suspension arms saved an additional 20 kg (44 lb); a suspension compliance pivot helped maintain wheel alignment changes at a near zero value throughout the suspension cycle. Other notable features included an independent, 4-channel anti-lock brake system; an electric power steering system; Honda's proprietary VTEC variable valve timing system and in 1995, the first electronic throttle control fitted in Honda production car.
With a robust motorsports division, Honda had significant development resources at its disposal and made extensive use of them. Respected Japanese Formula One driver Satoru Nakajima, for example, was involved with Honda in the NSX's early on-track development at Suzuka race circuit, where he performed many endurance distance duties related to chassis tuning. Brazilian Formula One World Champion Ayrton Senna, who won many races in Formula One with Honda before his death in 1994, was considered Honda's main innovator in convincing the company to stiffen the NSX's chassis further after initially testing the car at Honda's Suzuka GP circuit in Japan. Senna further helped refine the original NSX's suspension tuning and handling by spending a whole day test driving prototypes and reporting his findings to Honda engineers after each of the day's five testing sessions. Senna also tested the NSX at the Nürburgring and other race tracks. As a result of Senna's input, Honda took the NS-X prototype to the Nürburgring to tune the chassis stiffness. Over the course of several months, the chassis was refined in a painstaking process: Nakajima would drive a lap on the circuit and then discuss with the Honda engineers where he felt flex in the chassis. The engineers would hand-weld aluminum braces in the area they believed would fix the issue and send the driver back out to confirm. This process was repeated over and over, with the data results sent directly to Honda headquarters in Japan, where it was fed into a Cray supercomputer and translated into reinforcements in the production aluminum monocoque. As a result of this process, the NS-X chassis stiffness increased by over 50% with only a small increase in weight. The suspension development program was similarly far-ranging and took place at the Tochigi Proving Grounds, the Suzuka circuit, the 179-turn Nürburgring Course in Germany, HPCC, and Honda's newest test track in Takasu, Hokkaido. Honda automobile dealer Bobby Rahal (two-time CART PPG Cup and 1986 Indianapolis 500 champion) also participated in the car's development.
Honda NSX-R:
Honda decided in 1992 to produce a version of the NSX specifically modified for superior track performance at the expense of customary creature comforts. Thus, the NSX Type R (or NSX-R) was born. Honda chose to use its moniker of Type R to designate the NSX-R's race-oriented capabilities.
Honda engineers started with a base NSX coupé and embarked on an aggressive program of weight reduction. Sound deadening, the audio system, spare tyre, air conditioning system and traction control along with some of the electrical equipment were removed. The power leather seats were replaced with lightweight carbon-kevlar racing seats made by Recaro for Honda. However, electric windows and fore/aft electric seat adjusters were retained. The stock forged alloy wheels were replaced with lighter forged aluminium wheels produced by Enkei, which reduced the car's unsprung weight. The standard leather shift knob was replaced with a sculpted titanium piece. Overall, Honda managed to reduce approximately 120 kg (265 lb) of weight as compared to the standard NSX, resulting in the NSX-R's final weight of 1,230 kg (2,712 lb).
Due to its mid-engine layout and rear-end link travel, was susceptible to a sudden oversteer condition during certain cornering maneuvers. While this condition rarely occurred during normal driving conditions, it was much more prevalent on race tracks where speeds were much higher. To address the problem and improve the NSX-R's cornering stability at the limit, Honda added one aluminium bracket under the front battery tray and added one bracket in front of the front radiator to add more chassis rigidity replacing the entire suspension system with a more track oriented unit, featuring a stiffer front sway bar, stiffer suspension bushings, stiffer coil springs and stiffer dampers.
The standard NSX has a somewhat rearward bias in its spring and bar rates, where the rear was relatively quite stiff versus the front. This means that the lateral load transfer distribution, or the amount of load that is transferred across the front axle versus the rear while cornering, is rather rear biased. This can make the car quite lively and easy to rotate at low speed, but during high speed cornering, this effect becomes more pronounced and could be a handful to manage. To reduce the tendency to oversteer, Honda fitted softer rear tyres on the NSX. For the NSX-R, Honda reversed the spring bias, placing stiffer springs on the front suspension along with stiffer front sway bar. This shifted the load transfer stiffness balance farther forward, resulting in more rear grip at the expense of front grip; this had the effect of decreasing the oversteer tendency of the car, making it much more stable while cornering at high speeds. Overall, the NSX-R utilises a much stiffer front sway bar along with stiffer springs than the standard NSX (21.0 mm x 2.6 mm front sway bar: front 3.0 kg/mm, rear 4.0 kg/mm for the NSX versus front 8.0 kg/mm, rear 5.7 kg/mm for the NSX-R).
Honda also increased the final drive ratio to a 4.235:1 in place of the 4.06:1, which resulted in faster gear changes. This change improved acceleration, which was 4.9 seconds to 60 mph, at the expense of top speed, which was 168 mph, and a higher locking limited-slip differential was installed. Also, the NSX-R's 3.0-litre engine had a blueprinted and balanced crankshaft assembly which is exactly the same labour-intensive high precision process done for Honda racing car engines built by highly qualified engine technicians.
Beginning in late November 1992, Honda produced a limited number of 483 NSX-R variants exclusively for the Japanese domestic market (JDM). Factory optional equipment such as air conditioning, Bose stereo system, carbon fibre interior trim on the centre console as well as the doors and larger wheels painted in Championship White (16-inches at the front and 17-inches at the rear) were available for a hefty premium. Production of the NSX-R ended in September 1995.

2023.03.24 03:20 bassbeater Career Changes and Rationalizing Anxiety Appropriately so I Don't Crash
Hi All,
I've been navigating my way out of career hell and have been working on landing my first job in the IT field after recently completing a master's degree in my respective field and before that obtaining a computer support certificate.
So a little background on me, I originally majored in the arts and this kind of landed me in a lot of bad jobs for me (since I was interested in music, I ended up in the automotive business for several jobs, because hey, what has stereos in almost every case?). Even though some things didn't work out (casualty claims adjuster, auctioneer driver, biller, I found I was at least good with a keyboard since I used to excel at admin sort of jobs. A majority of positions I found before I landed something stable were basically along the lines of "get with the program or get the **** out" from the time I entered the door.
When I started wanting to get into tech initially, I found that jobs would sort of jerk me around with this whole spiel of "we understand you'd like to gain experience, but we'd like applicants to have experience to get experience". That or I'd find myself getting drilled on having the certificates. So now I'm anticipating landing a position since I prettymuch have two degrees and am studying to take the certificate exams (some positions will offer a "we'd like you to get the cert within 6 months of hire), but I am still anxious that entering a new job where I don't have all the answers up front will be a trial by fire, even though one of the jobs I specifically answered that question liked what I had to say (that researching a problem before trying fix it would be most productive in times of doubt).
Has anyone else been in this position?

2023.03.24 02:45 k_throwaway2023 I've been using Ketamine therapy, here's how it started and my experiences so far
I’ve been using ketamine therapeutically since last spring and I’ve been thinking about writing down my experience with it for a while. In the last few weeks I’ve seen increased interest in psychedelic treatments, especially with a second clinic in the city using it.
Getting a few things out of the way- I am not a mental health or medical professional, these are my personal experiences and opinions with ketamine therapy. I am using a throw away account and there are some details leading up to the therapy that I’m skipping over for personal reasons.
I don’t think I can adequately describe the treatment and how it works, but
this is a good video going over what ketamine therapy is and how it can help I have had issues with depression for most of my life but it had gotten to a point where I was noticeably deteriorating and my current medications were no longer working. I had been in contact with Access 24/7 and have spoken to someone there on 2 separate occasions, one of which was to surrender some old medication I was no longer using (under threat of a wellness check). I had gotten a referral for therapy through AHS and had a referral to see a psychiatrist.
Therapy sessions through AHS were 3-4 weeks apart and the psychiatrist recommended I only needed Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. Afterwards I was discussing this with my doctor because I felt like I needed more help and couldn’t do this on my own. My family doctor recommended I contact
Envision Mindcare about their Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy (TMS) to help with treatment resistant depression.
Envision Mindcare is a private clinic and requires a physician referral, that can be found online. My experience was after they received my referral it was discussed internally if I would be a good fit for the clinic. I made it through the initial screening and I was contacted about receiving an intake/assessment at the clinic. The fee for the appointment was $200.
At the appointment I talked with a psychiatric nurse/psychologist about my history, what brought me to the clinic, and what I was looking for. I noticed they offer ketamine therapy and asked about it. At the end of the appointment I was told I was a candidate for either TMS or ketamine and would have an appointment with a psychiatrist for further assessment.
At my appointment with the psychiatrist we talked in a little more detail about my history, what brought me to the clinic, and what I hoped to get out of it. The psychiatrist agreed I would be a good candidate for either TMS or ketamine, but recommended ketamine for me and told me about what to expect leading up to the first therapy session. My psychiatric appointments at the clinic are covered by AHS.
They only offer intranasal ketamine therapy at the clinic. I was contacted by a compounding pharmacy in the city about preparing my prescription. There are commercial medications available but they can cost up to $1,500 if I remember correctly. The cost for my first prescription was around $150 and should last 4-6 weeks depending on dosage and frequency. There was a courier cost also with the prescription; because of the potential side effects and potential for misuse, I am only ever in possion of the ketamine nasal spray at the clinic. The cost of my last bottle was around $170 due to a higher dosage. If you have drug coverage, ask the pharmacist how to claim it because there was a special form I needed for fill out.
Before my first session I also had to submit a drug screening to the clinic because of the potential for abuse.
Since my job also has the ability to drug test me, I informed my manager (who was very supportive) about the treatment and got a doctor’s note saying I would be fit for duty the day after treatment. The note cost $80
Before each session I have to fill out a survey on a tablet at the clinic. I log on with a unique number and answer questions about my current state of mind. These are recorded and used to track progress.
Afterwards a ketamine therapist will call me and take me to a room. I’ll sit down, blow my nose, get comfortable, and have my blood pressure read. There is chance of a blood pressure spike at the beginning of the treatment and my blood pressure is monitored throughout most of the session. There will be some candy next to the chair, because if the ketamine drips down the back of my throat, it tastes intensely bitter and unpleasent. Then if the bottle is primed, I’ll begin spraying one shot in each nostril with a one minute break between sprays until I reach the required dosage for that session. The higher dosages will knock me out for around 60 minutes before I start to Greg’s in my faculties. I usually stay in the room for 90-120 minutes or until I am ready to leave.
My first session was a small dosage (60 mg) to see how I would react and each session would increase until I reached the recommended dosage. My schedule was 2x a week for 5 weeks, then once a week, then once every two weeks, and I am now going once every 3 weeks. I was told to not expect to feel the full benefits until I was in the +120 mg dosages. My highest recommended dosage was 180 mg. The cost of each session is $200.
What to expect- the first few sessions were uneventful. I remained conscious throughout and was a little nauseated by the end. The higher dosages brought different experiences but I’ve been able to just lay back and relax. Afterwards I feel slightly dizzy and uncoordinated, I’ve described it as feeling a little hung over.
Ketamine is a dissociative hallucinogen and I’m not sure how to describe its effects, so I’m copying this piece I found
Taking ketamine can make you feel:
During my sessions, I have experienced all of them at some point. Some sessions I may not experience any of them, but the clinic has reminded me to not focus on the impact of the drug, because the real benefits start after the treatment.
I have also had several medication reviews to adjust my other prescriptions and talk about my progress since I started the therapy.
Why ketamine over TMS? I have treatment resistant depression and during my assessment I remember talking about a non-imminent threat of self harm and ketamine works fast and is very good at suppressing those thoughts and urges and making it hard to focus on them if they do pop up.
From what I have been able to find, studies have found the success rate of ketamine therapy to be 60-75%. It has not been easy or cheap to use ketamine therapy and it’s not right for everyone, but I am in a better place than when I started it last year.
Personal Notes:
- Don’t eat or drink too much before the appointment, I’ve found it better to go in hungry rather than full.
- Do not drive after your session, you will be impaired. One of the survey questions is if you have arranged transportation from the clinic
- There is a question about an increase in diarrhea or constipation in the survey. It's important to answer honestly if there is a change, because it could be a symptom of a serious, but reversible, risk of a liver complication. A blood test is required to confirm if this is an issue..
- During my session, I just lay back and listen to music. I use the time to just relax for a little bit.
- I take the LRT to the clinic and I’ve found it easier to walk from Corona Station instead of Government Center
- If you have benefits/insurance, talk to the clinic about how you can use it to even partially cover the cost of treatment
- I have found it very beneficial to have counseling in addition to ketamine. The ketamine alone can’t fix the other problems that brought me to the clinic in the first place. Therapy is expensive and can be hard to find, but here a few resources I have found Drop-in Single Session Counselling. It’s free resource with multiple locations throughout the city Momentum Councelling offers free group sessions, some virtual and some in person. If you attend a virtual session you will need a camera and either headphones or a private space during the session.
- Access 24/7 780-424-2424. They have moved to the Edmonton Community Hub North- 13211 Fort Road NW
- I’ve found EMDR therapy has helped me. I’ve been going to ShiftGrit Psychology and found the addition of EMDR very helpful in trying to process some things.
- I currently reading Emotional Agility by Susan David and I’ve found it informative and helpful. Next on the list is The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion: Freeing Yourself from Destructive Thoughts and Emotions by Christopher Germer
- Nutrition is very important. I always feel better when I’m eating a more balanced diet and fewer refined and processed foods.
- I also feel much better and more energized after some moderate exercise
- I don’t do this enough, but mindfulness and guided meditation helps to calm me and focus my thoughts.
- If you're lucky enough to have a doctor, a physical can also help identify problems, like abnormal hormone levels.
- I try to stay away from supplements so I can avoid complications and identify if my medications are working for me, with one exception. One thing that I have found immensely helpful is taking a magnesium supplement. In my research, the algorithm recommended this video and I thought it would be a simple and measurable way to improve my mood. I discussed it with my psychiatrist and they said it would be fine to try out. Since I started taking the magnesium, I’ve found I have a greater distress tolerance even with one pill a day.
- I’ve found Dr Tracy Marks videos to be immensely helpful. Her videos touch on diagnosis, behavior, diet, exercise, and different forms of therapy.
- I have asked and Envision Mindacre will be offering psilocybin treatments as soon as they can, possibly within the next 2 months. I have been told that this would be an all day treatment and require fewer sessions than the ketamine but I don’t know what the cost will be. I am unaware about any other psychedelic therapies that might be offered in the future.
tl;dr
- The treatment isn’t easy to start
- It’s expensive
- It’s not the best treatment option for everyone
- It’s time intensive
- But it can be very effective at what it does and it's had a positive impact for me

2023.03.24 02:21 LittleCheesers Danny is having a mid life crisis. “My life is falling apart!”
In the theme of his videos about things falling apart, during his live yesterday, it seems his entire personality has changed. Even more cringe, even more dislike-able.
He has been delusional talking about how successful his standup is, however mentions how often he is heckled. Draws stories from stand up we have seen recently and claims people applauded and laughed, when they didn’t.
Mia’s break up has clearly really affected Danny and his commitment to his comedy studying hours.
When someone suggested a funny prank idea, he said no but his own recent writing was described and performed:
To dress up in a suit and yell inside of a Starbucks that his coffee isn’t ready and that he runs California with a 30k salary. He acted out this character and it was unbelievably cringe. Not one person responded or laughed but due to how he reads chat an hour after it is sent, he limits his ability to see that no one found it funny.
We need to help Danny find his way to Autism school before this mid life crisis results in a challenger plowed into a tree.
He also finally admitted while wearing his own merch for the millionth time that the Blader Boy Shirt didn’t make a single sale.
Our final story tonight is that Swolby enabled TTS and donations for his 4 viewer streams. This just in: no one has donated yet.

2023.03.24 02:18 uselessloner123 Is “I want a smart man” the socially acceptable way of simply saying “I want a rich man”?
I often have heard the phrase “I want a nice and intelligent man.” But when I hear the “intelligence” part this is how it goes. “I’m dating guy X (or want to date him). He’s majoring in Y (or his job is Z).” “He’s going to make a lot of money! (He makes a lot of money!”
I have heard this from well educated, intelligent girls as well as not so well educated unintelligent girls.
As someone who has been often perceived by others to be intelligent I am inclined to believe that people aren’t looking for a guy who approaches modern day politics with 100 conditions and qualifiers or who engages in long philosophical discussions. Being witty can sometimes be seen as amusing but not every moment is appropriate for making jokes.
I’ve spoken to some BPers about the above, and they claim that the salary line is the girl actively admiring the achievements of a guy without it being something she actually desires or want, while the intelligence is the true want. What do you all think about this?

2023.03.24 01:30 Shhhhshushshush Fence quotes in Bay Area
Hello everyone,
Due to the storms I've had downed fencing. I'm sure I'm not the only especially since the contractors (and even my claims adjuster) are so backed up that I've only had one quote so far.
My question is, for those going through this. What have your quotes looked like? My husband supposed $100 per linear sq ft is the norm now. What do you guys think?
Thanks!

2023.03.24 01:01 Grace_of_Reckoning High Alkaline Levels in Rain / Snow: Geoengineering is NOT Your Friend
{I posted this entry in
climatechange just a bit earlier today & immediately received a 1 year ban from the subreddit ... this was done automatically by a set of algorithms, NOT a human user. This indicates that there is authenticity to these claims such that the reddit algorithms detected classified info & thereby risk enough to conceal these ideas from reaching other human users. I have verified most of these claims for myself & have been observing them first hand on my travels through various states. Reddit algorithms (bots) have reacted this way to other posts of mine as well, but this one happened so immediately that no human could have been responsible for the decision to remove the post. Read this entry & consider the implications carefully; this knowledge can protect you ...}
Acid rain is old news & the effects of exposure to the skin are pretty easy to guess; redness, rash, corrosion of flesh, immune system reduction. Alkaline rain is a new one though & these conditions are being intentionally geoengineered to harm the public.
Not exactly with the intention of harm, but controlling the decisions & freedoms of society members is the main idea. Presumably, it would work to discourage homelessness in the sense that outdoor living would be much less convenient in humid, damp, or snowy areas. It also just encourages a more docile stay-at-home existence for most common folks as this is already largely the norm.
Rain was never seen as an invitation for outdoor recreations but now with high alkaline rain it is quite dangerous to expose one's self to a damp rainy environment for any amount of time. The effects can be felt within minutes if the ambient temperature is either below 40F or above 80F, somewhat easier to withstand in midrange temp. It is harmful to the lungs in higher temp & mainly damages the skin in lower temp, especially if exposure is prolonged (like in most cases of homelessness ...). There really isn't much to be done about this, I don't think it would be very easy to adjust the pH of rain, even after collecting it for the purpose of drinking water (there also is plenty of pollution in nanoparticle form that will reside in the water even after thorough filtration ... I wouldn't even trust a carbon-nano-filter, in truth).
In conclusion, alkaline rain is simply one of the many climatological tactics that exist in the geoengineering arsenal. Weather conditions are being artificially altered to produce obstructive, detrimental, even hostile effects for human health in order to promote the idea of being a stay-at-home consumerist couch potato. Not to mention, with better reasoning than ever to just drone out in front of a screen in the house you're still paying mortgage on for the next 10 years to come, so long as there is any snow, rain, or humidity in the area.
Even in hotter drier climates the climate is still turned against outdoor frequenting humans. Most occurrences of alkaline rain / snow are artificially created. That is to say, most cloud formations & precipitation in general aren't an act of nature; they are artificial designs (not talking about H.A.R.P.P or whatever, that shit is just a bogus cover-up). There is too much exposure to the sun radiation in cloudless, hotter climates. The idea is basically to accentuate any of the known weather extremes that are characteristic to the respective area (California, hot & dry ... Washington, cold & damp ... etc).
It is no exaggeration to claim that the conditions of the weather in very specific areas across the globe are being programmed to render poor living conditions for the common bulk of society & it is being done with perfect control. There might as well be a weather related catastrophe right around the corner to look forward to, depending on the intentions of whoever (or whatever ...) is in control of these artificial conditions manifesting.

Chapter 23: 2008: A Shawn Odyssey
Boys: Shawn
Girls: Courtney, Heather, Shawn
Episode 23: 2008: A Shawn Odyssey
"Last time on Total Drama Action," Chris said over a shot of the film lot. "In a world they didn't create," the four teens were shown waking up in the forest, "two honorable warriors," Shawn and Lindsay's fight was shown, "and two foes battled it out for Kung-fu supremacy," Courtney and Heather were shown fiddling with their joysticks.
"No mountain was too high," Heather and Shawn were shown climbing. "No aquatic creature too viscous," Courtney was shown fighting a jellyfish.
"In the end, Shawn won the reward," the theorist was shown fighting the Sasquatch, "but lost his alliance with Courtney," he and Courtney were shown ending their partnership.
"But it's gonna take more than puny alliances to survive this week," Chris told the camera as it flashed to his close-up, "on Total! Drama! Action!"
XXXXX
The episode opened on a shot of the full moon. A rat walked on-screen in front of the camera as a grandiose tune started to play. The rat sniffed the air then scurried along what was revealed to be the top of a large speaker. The music reached its climax, and the speaker shook so much the rat fell off behind it.
The shot pulled out to show the cast trailers, both flanked by speakers as tall as they were. Further to the left was a tall blueish-green monolith-like set piece. The lights inside the trailers flicked on and the complaints of the castmates echoed out of them. The doors opened, showing the girls filing out; Courtney, then a hunched over Heather, then Lindsay at the end, all three in their pajamas. The camera cut over to the guys' trailer as Shawn exited similarly. The survivalist paused briefly to yawn and stretch his arms, and the camera moved back to the girls.
"What is wrong with those mattresses?" Lindsay asked. "It's like they were full of rocks."
Confessional: Shawn
"I slept on Noah’s bed, so I don’t have the same back problems that the girls do," Shawn said. "The layers on it are super soft."
Confessional Ends
The remaining four met up as a group. Heather looked over to see the lone male scratching his butt and armpit at the same time.
"Can you believe this guy?" Heather commented.
"What a neanderthal," Courtney said.
They looked over at Lindsay, who noticed the monolith off to the side, and pointed at it with a few animalistic grunts.
The shot cut to the top of it, the moon still visible behind it. The camera panned down to its base where Chef sat in a leopard-print loincloth banging on an upside-down soup pot with a couple bones as though it were a drum. Both the castmates and Chris, also wearing a leopard-print loincloth and with his hair unkempt, approached the monolith at the same time.
"Good morning, cast!" Chris greeted as Chef stopped playing. "Or should I say, good middle of the night? Hope you're all well-rested and ready to boldly go where very few men and even fewer ladies have gone before!"
"Wait," Shawn spoke up. "Didn't we already do the caveman movie?"
"We did, Shawn," Chris answered, "but we had to reuse the costumes since my astronomical salary accounts for oh, roughly ninety-seven percent of the show's budget."
"Chris," Heather said, "it is the middle of the night. Can't we do the challenge in the morning?"
"No can do Heather," Chris replied. "While today's movie genre may start at the dawn of time, it quickly moves up, up, and away!" The camera panned up to the night sky as a shooting star flew in front of the moon.
"So we're doing space movies today?" Lindsay asked as if she already knew the answer.
"What was your first clue, Linds-iot?" Heather told her.
Confessional: Lindsay
"I've been called a lot of things, such as moron, dimwit, idiot, and much more," Lindsay said. "I've been trying to prove myself, and no way am I letting Heather drag me down."
Confessional Ends
"Awesome!" Shawn cheered. "I love sci-fi movies."
"Don't you get enough science fiction from those movies you binge watch?" Courtney half-insulted, half-asked the boy.
"Don't you get enough pleasure from looking down and nagging on us?" Shawn retorted.
"Listen up, space cases," Chris interrupted. "You'll soon be facing some out-of-this-world challenges, but first..." He quickly ducked away, and the camera cut to him pushing away the monolith to reveal four small boxes set on a table behind it. "I have a very special surprise for you," he told the cast. "Each of you has received one special item sent to you from the outside world. Which by now," he picked up one of the packages and tossed it to Lindsay, who caught it before Heather was tossed her own gift, "must feel like a distant planet."
He tossed another one like a football and it was caught by Courtney, with Shawn also shown to have received his gift.
Shawn opened his, and looked at a silver tinfoil hat shaped like his beanie with excitement. "My tinfoil hat!" he cheered. "Nice!"
"You have a tinfoil hat?" Lindsay asked.
"Yup," Shawn answered. "It keeps the aliens from reading my brains and what I think."
Confessional: Shawn
"I used to wear this thing all the time," Shawn told the audience. "Unfortunately, my dad confiscated it since it made me look weird and unusual to others. Afterwards, I decided to get the beanie I’m wearing right now."
Confessional Ends
The shot cut to Lindsay as she opened hers and smiled. "My pom poms!" she exclaimed. "My cheer team didn't forget about them!"
The camera cut to Courtney and Heather, both having opened their boxes. The former took out a picture frame and let out a choked sob.
"What's wrong?" Heather asked. "Did you get a photo of a bad hair day?"
"Just… I need a minute," Courtney claimed.
Confessional: Courtney
Courtney had her picture with her. "When I was head of the school debating team, my partner walked out on me during the biggest debate of the year because she felt I wasn't being a "team player". I went on to win it without her! Take that, Brittany Reed!" She revealed her picture, which was her in the middle of a speech. "This photo is a reminder. If you want something done right, you do it yourself!"
Confessional Ends
Heather finally managed to open her box and pulled out a green jawbreaker. "A jawbreaker? How is this a prize?" She asked in frustration.
"I don't know, but sweet things usually go to sweet people," Courtney insulted.
"Damien must have delivered this to me!" Heather growled.
"Who the heck is Damien?" Courtney questioned.
"He's my little brother," Heather answered. "That twerp likes to pull pranks on me every chance he gets. He's almost like Sadie."
"What else were you expecting?" Courtney wondered.
"He could've given me my trophy for the annual ballet contest I participated in when I was eight," Heather grumbled.
Confessional: Heather
"I'm still going to keep this jawbreaker," Heather said as she held it. "Damien may have sent it as a joke, but I won't let him have the last laugh."
Confessional Ends
"Alright gang," Chris addressed the cast, "time to blast off to the great unknown. Everyone knows a good outer space movie has three things in common. One, the zero gravity is always a trip. Two, the G-forces are killer! And three, everything is recycled in space. Including number one, and number two."
"Gross," Courtney winced.
"Eww," Heather said in disgust.
"Which brings us to our first challenge," Chris continued. "I'll meet you at the thrill ride set in ten minutes."
The cast looked at each other in confusion. "Did he say thrill ride?" Lindsay asked.
\
The scene briefly flashed to the full moon behind the water tower for a moment before flashing away again to a close-up of the host, back in his normal clothes.
"The way to achieve zero gravity," Chris explained to the contestants, all of whom have also gotten dressed, "is to fly a jet on a parabolic course. With large vertical climbs, and even larger vertical drops." The camera panned across the faces of the cast, all of which looked freaked. "But with the price of jet fuel today," the scene flashed to a makeshift space shuttle tied to what looked like a roller coaster cart at a boarding platform, "we're gonna simulate the effect on this makeshift space shuttle!"
The shot flashed away again, the camera now panning up a spaceship-themed roller coaster set among several other theme park attractions. "Which will hit the optimum speed needed to keep you all in a perpetual state of zero gravity," the host explained before the shot cut back to him and the cast.
"Are we going to get killed?" Lindsay asked. "I won't go in if it will."
"Is that thing even up to code?" Courtney wondered.
"Your first outer space challenge will be to spend the rest of the night on the shuttle sleeping in zero gravity conditions," Chris told the cast.
"That doesn't sound so difficult," Shawn said with a pleased expression.
\
The footage flashed ahead to a close-up of an intercom speaker as the host's voice came in over it. "Y'all might wanna hold on to something bolted down," Chris told the cast as the camera pulled back to show them holding pillows in their hands, "'cause we're almost ready to launch!"
"Yes!" Lindsay cheered.
"He said launch," Heather told her, "not lunch."
"I know," Lindsay explained. "I just can't wait to be flying inside a spaceship."
The shot cut back to the intercom as an engine was heard starting up over it. "In five! Four! Three! Two! One!" The camera cut outside as the space shuttle strapped to the roller coaster cart shuddered to life. "Blast off!" At Chris' ecstatic signal, the shuttle's engines flared on and the contraption took off along the track. It quickly reached the main peak as the castmates screamed in terror, and the scene cut back inside.
"If I'm gonna die, at least make my death look cool!" Shawn yelled as he clenched his eyes shut. The camera began to pull back from his close-up as he slowly opened his eyes, looked around, and smiled. He and the other three were now floating inside the shuttle's cabin. "How about that? We're floating in mid-air!"
"Alright astronauts," Chris told them, the camera cutting from a close-up of the intercom to the host lounging in his chair at the monitor room watching the cast on the monitors, "it's gonna be a long night. Better get some sleep!" He pressed a button on the keyboard and added "If you can!" The monitor screens switched from Heather and Shawn to Courtney and Lindsay, and the host accepted a cup of coffee from Chef with a laugh.
\
"Can I borrow any of your pillows?" Courtney asked as she floated around. "I lost mine."
"That's your own fault then," Shawn relaxed on his pillow. "You lose it, you deal with it."
"Fine," Courtney looked away from his former ally. "We are floating in mid-air, so I won't complain… much."
Confessional: Lindsay
"Courtney and Shawn are at each other's throats just like me and Amy," Lindsay said. "There's only one person who could've made them split, which is obviously Heather."
Confessional Ends
The scene returned to a shot of a jawbreaker floating in the air, then panned out to show that Heather was chasing after it. "If that jawbreaker wasn't so big, I would be able to stash it into my pocket!" She said as she floated past Lindsay who was looking at her pom poms.
"At least what you got is tasty," Lindsay said. "I can't eat or lick my pom poms."
"Good thing you're smart enough to know what's edible," Heather snootily responded.
"If they were taffy, I'd likely eat them," Lindsay responded.
Confessional: Heather
Heather was focused on filing her nails. "I assume I'm the favorite to win. I mean, look who's left. A control freak, a smelly nut, and a dumb blonde. And the only thing Lindsay has going for her is that she hasn't made any enemies. Whoop-de-doo! We're not here to make friends. We're here to win." As she talked, she snapped her nail filer in half. "And that is exactly what I plan on doing."
Confessional Ends
The scene cut forward to the castmates as they slept peacefully with their pillows. This only lasted for a couple seconds before an alarm started to sound off loudly, and the lights in the cabin flashed red as the four teens woke up. "This is Houston," Chris said over the loudspeaker, "and you have a problem. You've been hit by an asteroid, and your guidance system is toast!"
"What do we do?!" Lindsay asked in a panic.
"I've watched Race to Save Space 3 before I came to this show," Shawn said. "We have to override the navigation controls."
"Quick!" Heather cried. "Someone grab the joystick thingy!"
Courtney sprung off a nearby wall and darted towards the shuttle's main computer. She grabbed onto a central joystick as she floated by, then planted her feet on the desk and pulled. The camera zoomed in on it and after a few moments of effort the stick moved to the side, shutting off the alarms and returning the lights to normal.
"Way to go Courtney!" Lindsay cheered.
"Nice job," Shawn said.
The camera zoomed in on Heather's jawbreaker as it drifted closer to a small window. It hit the window, cracking it slightly. The camera pulled back again to show it pushing back forward, but the force of its push-off caused the glass to shatter soon after it floated away. The air immediately began to be sucked out of the cabin, and the lights flashed red once more as Heather looked at the broken window with a shocked look.
Confessional: Heather
"At the very least, I can say that I'm not to blame for the window breaking," Heather claimed.
Confessional Ends
Heather, Courtney, Lindsay, and Shawn were shown floating in front of the shuttle controls. "Uh-oh!'" Chris announced jovially over the intercom. "Looks like you have a hole in your fuselage!" He laughed, and the camera panned across a closer shot of the four teens' faces. "You have exactly t-minus-ten minutes to plug the hole, or you'll run out of precious oxygen."
"We have to plug the hole!" Heather yelled.
"We just need something big and form-fitting!" Courtney replied.
They all turned to Lindsay. "Why are you looking at me?"
"We can use your pom poms to fill the hole," Heather said. "It's either that, or death."
Lindsay gave them a brief look and sighed. "They are valuable, but I can get new ones after the show ends."
The scene flashed back outside, the sun already up and the shuttle-coaster still flying along its track. The camera cut to the boarding platform as it finally came to a stop, and Chris was standing in wait as the shuttle door burst open with a puff of steam. One by one, the castmates fell out of it. Lindsay was first, then Courtney, then Shawn; all landed on top of one another in a heap. Heather was the last, and was the only one who maintained her balance.
"Will somebody help me down, or will I have to do it myself?" Heather huffed.
"Go with the second option," Lindsay replied. "There's a ladder in front of you."
Heather rolled her eyes, but climbed down the ladder.
The camera cut to Chef standing outside of the broken window, Lindsay's pom poms sticking out of it. "That was smart, sealing the breach with those pom poms," he said while pulling them out.
"It was my idea," Courtney claimed. "No sweat to it."
"You just love to pat yourself on the back," Shawn rolled his eyes.
Confessional: Shawn
"I really hope that I can get Courtney and Heather out," Shawn confessed. "Lindsay's the only one I'd like to face in the finale."
Confessional Ends
"Nice going Lindsay," Chris told her. "It was your pom poms that saved the group."
"Yes!" Lindsay jumped in Victory with her pom poms on."
"What?" Heather gaped. "I was the one who suggested we fill that hole!"
"Lindsay was the one who actually plugged in the hole," Chris said. "As a reward, she'll get to decide the order of who goes first to last at the next challenge!"
"I got it," Lindsay exclaimed. "The order is me, Courtney, Shawn, and Heather."
Confessional: Lindsay
"I don't know what the next part of the challenge is," Lindsay confessed, "but making sure Heather participates last was just too good to pass up."
Confessional Ends
\
(Commercial break)
\
The footage cut forward to a shot of the sun over a few of the film lot's fake buildings near one of the studios. The wind was shown blowing a few pieces of paper along the road between the studios, then the shot cut to and upward pan of the fake hill. The camera cut back to the front of a studio as its garage-like door began to open.
A few feet were briefly shown behind the door before the camera moved inside, showing the silhouettes of the four castmates against the light flooding in from outside. The feet were shown again in an angled profile as they began to walk outside, and the shot moved up to show the four staring forward. Lindsay was first, then Shawn, then Courtney, then Heather.
The camera switched to a face-on shot, panning right across the castmates and stopping at Lindsay. A record scratch was heard as Chris ran across the shot with a scowl on his face, the teens following him with their eyes.
"Enough messing around," Chris said before the scene changed to the usual side-view as he addressed the contestants. "Alright gang, if you thought spending the night in zero G's was a stomach-churning experience, then you're gonna love this next challenge! Who can last the longest on the G-force Trainer?" The castmates were shown watching cautiously. "Or as I like to call it," Chris said before the shot quick-panned further to the right, "The Vomit Comet!" The machine he was referring to looked like a bulbous, oversized, and legless space suit attached by a hefty arm to a smaller wheeled cart.
"If you thought you were under pressure before," the host said giddily as the camera panned up a close-up of the suit, "wait 'til you feel the effects of four times Earth's gravitational force!"
"We just ate chili for lunch," Heather said. "This won't be good."
"That was a bad call," Lindsay agreed.
The shot quick-panned over to Chef Hatchet who was standing by a bubbling pot on a small table. "Plenty more where that came from," he told the camera while tapping the side of the pot with a ladle. The camera zoomed in for a close-up, showing a foul-looking vomit-green stew filled with a variety of bones, old socks, and octopus tentacles.
The focus moved back to Chris. "Remember crew, Lindsay's already picked the order, so she's up first."
"Wonderful," Lindsay said with a smile as she approached the machine. "I didn't know we were gonna barf inside this thing, but now that I know the order and I'm going first, I don't have to worry about getting covered in other people's barf."
Courtney quickly grew uncomfortable. "Uh, what's the order she picked for us."
Chris donned a villainous sneer. "You're not going to like this. After Lindsay goes Courtney, Shawn, and last but not least, Heather."
"WHAT!!??" Heather screeched. "Can I trade places with someone?"
"Too late," Chris said. "The order is set."
Heather shot daggers at Lindsay, who smiled innocently and shrugged in response.
Confessional: Lindsay
Lindsay was shown laughing to herself for a couple of seconds. "It's going to take a long time for her to wash the puke off!" She resumed her laughter.
Confessional: Heather
"When this is over, I'm going to kill Lindsay…" Heather shot the camera a deadly glare, "...right after I take a long shower!"
Confessionals End
The scene skipped to Lindsay as she was about to climb the G-force training suit. She looked over and said "This will almost be like the Hurlinator back at the carnival."
"But unlike that heap of junk, you’ll actually hurl inside that suit if you’re unlucky," Chris taunted.
Lindsay dropped into the suit and closed the helmet shut. "Have a nice spin, Lindsay!" Chris said with a wave before pressing the buttons on his stopwatch and remote control simultaneously.
The machine immediately started to move, and Lindsay began cheering out of fun and enjoyment. A bird's-eye view showed the arms rotating rapidly about the wheeled cart it was attached to. The camera cut to a close-up of the viewing window on the helmet, where the blonde's face could clearly be seen. Her happy expression changed to struggling to contain her vomit. She forced it down and exclaimed "Let me out!"
Chris obliged by pressing both buttons again, and the machine slowed to a stop. The helmet swung open and Lindsay pulled herself out. She was frazzled, but she didn’t throw up on herself.
"15.4 seconds!" Chris read off from his stopwatch with a grin. "Pretty impressive for a first run, and despite my theory, you did not hurl!"
"I did not want to smell bad," Lindsay groaned and fell over.
Confessional: Lindsay
"So I have this friend who ate twenty corn dogs as a dare," Lindsay confessed. "When we were inside the car, she started to throw up, and some of it got on us. I'm never eating a corn dog again."
Confessional Ends
"Alright Courtney, you're next," Chris told the control freak who approached him and the training suit. "Lindsay managed to keep her lunch down, so at least you'll have a dry run."
\
The scene flashed forward to Courtney in the suit, already looking nervous. "Let's get this over with," she said before the helmet swung down over her head.
Chris smiled and pressed the button on the remote control, and the camera switched over to the bird's-eye-view of the machine. The rotating arm rapidly built up speed, and unlike Lindsay before her, Courtney immediately screamed in terror. Another viewpoint change showed the panicking type-a through the helmet's viewing window, then back to the bird's-eye-view. The sound of vomiting was heard and the shot cut back to the host.
"27 seconds on the dot!" Chris announced.
"Am I in the lead?" a messy Courtney wondered after climbing out the suit.
"No," Chris answered. "I'm deducting ten seconds for puking."
"That was totally disgusting!" Courtney muttered. "I hope you can handle it, Shawn."
"I've dived through garbage and covered myself in fish guts once," Shawn shrugged her off. "This is nothing I can handle."
"I don't want to say it, but your determination is admirable," Courtney said.
"It's down to you two," Chris told Shawn and Heather. "Shawn, your slightly soiled chariot awaits."
\
"Ready or not, here I come," Shawn got in the suit.
"He's got high confidence," Chris told the camera. "Confidence that's going to disappear." The helmet closed, the buttons were pressed, and the machine began to spin.
The camera cut to the window of the helmet, showing Shawn screaming in panic. Sooner or later, ominous rumbling came from inside the suit and his cheeks bulged.
The scene cut back to Chris just as the sound of puke was heard, and the host stopped both watch and machine. "Whether Shawn will shower or not is up to him," Chris commented as the conspiracy nut exited the suit covered with vomit. "But he will definitely smell like his own lunch now. After the ten second deduction, he comes in at a grand total of 20 seconds."
"Thanks for choosing me to go last, Lindsay," Heather spat at her. "Two people threw up, and I have to be surrounded by their puke."
"Heather, you're the last one," Chris slyly said. "Unless you want to lose out on winning invincibility, I say you get inside the suit now."
Heather looked at the others and narrowed her eyes. "I'm not forfeiting."
Confessional: Heather
"The things I do to keep myself in the game," Heather rolled her eyes.
Confessional Ends
"This is so gross," Heather said in disgust as she got in the vomit-covered suit. "Start it already!" Heather yelled before slamming the helmet shut.
Chris pressed his two buttons. As with the others the camera switched first to a bird's-eye view of the machine as it began to move, then to a close-up of Heather's face through the helmet. Though she was wincing from the bits of vomit dripping down her face, she kept her determination still and wasn't about to quit.
The shot cut outside to the host and the other three castmates as they watched. Chris was focused on the stopwatch in his hands, Shawn was uninterested, Lindsay was nervous, and Courtney was scared.
"She's going longer than I thought she would," Chris said.
"Just barf already!" Courtney shouted.
The sound of vomiting was heard. The camera zoomed in on Chris again as a smile formed and he clicked his buttons, and the machine came to a stop. "That's time!" he called.
"Did I win?" Heather asked after swinging open the helmet and flopping over the side, vomit all over her head, chest, and mouth. "I know that was more than 27 seconds."
"35 and a half seconds! A new Vomit Comet record!" Chris told her.
"I know what this means," Heather grinned in victory.
"Since she lasted the longest inside that machine, I declare Heather the winner of today's challenge!" Chris announced.
"In your face, everyone!" Heather taunted the other three contestants.
"Can you mock us from far away?" Lindsay held her nose.
"We would like to be away from you," Courtney said.
"Never thought I'd say this, but I agree," Shawn stepped back. "You stink really bad, and I have horrible hygiene."
"That's just the smell of victory," Heather said.
A sudden whistle caught the group's attention, and they looked over to see Chef standing on a stepladder calmly slicing a carrot over the open suit. "Hope y'all like gumbo!" he told them before resuming his work.
The camera panned across the castmates and host as all wretched in sheerest disgust.

2023.03.24 00:45 GM770 Employed and self employed - Best way to invest in pension
I'm thinking about pension contributions for next tax year. I'm not likely to hit the £60k annual allowance. I'm needing something of a sense check please with my calculations.
Employed, employer pension paid through salary sacrifice, leaving £60k after pension contributions (with NI and income tax paid on that £60K).
Also self employed, freelance work, expecting to earn around £30k (higher than the current year, so there are more considerations).
I'd like to pay more into my pension (let's say £20K more).
** Option 1 ** I can pay this through the work pension, which will also be through salary sacrifice (the management fees are covered - but the choice of investments are limited). I think I would save 42% tax (income tax and NI) on the first £10K invested, then 32% tax on the next £10K (as the tax relief is at source).
** Option 2 ** I can pay into a SIPP. That would get me 40% income tax relief on the full £20K. I'd need to pay in £16K (with 25% topped up in the SIPP) and would also claim a further £4K through my tax return. In this case, I also pay Class 2 and Class 4 national insurance, but I would already have paid NI above the £50,270 cap through my main employment, so I think I'd only be due to pay Class 4 NI at 2.73% on about £18K (£30K-£12K). This may be wrong as I find the NI rules a bit confusing.
** Option 3 ** Some combination of both.
Mathematically, I'm thinking the best option is to pay £10K more through salary sacrifice (to avoid the 42% tax), then to separately put £8K into the SIPP (which get topped up to £10K). But have I missed something really obvious here?

2023.03.23 23:59 advancedrose What’s it like working as a claims adjuster?
I wanted to get some insight on what it’s like working in insurance/as a claims adjuster.
I graduated with a bachelors in 2020. I’m currently in an admin position( since 2021) that’s kinda boring/ with not much work for me to do. The job pays okay but I’m a contractor and I don’t think I’ll be able to move into a full time position with benefits with the company (and my contract ends in June). I’ve just started applying consistently for jobs again, but last summer I applied pretty rigorously in jobs related to my field (IT) and didn’t manage to land anything.
Now I’m thinking that I could be a claims adjuster and then I can continue to work in insurance. It seems like a relatively low barrier entry level job. I have seen a few people mention online that it’s very stressful and busy, and that dealing with the customers isn’t always great. So Is the pay worth it, or is it too stressful for what you’re paid ?

If you are unaware a Mega church in Springfield Missouri has been claiming to haal a woman whose three toes were shot off by her ex-husband. It has of course garnered a lot of skepticism. And I can't help but think that people who pull this kind of stuff are hurting the gospel. I know it's not fair but people get painted with the same brush. The church is also been well known for asking for proof of salary and expecting a 10% tithe automatically. Somehow despite all this fishiness it's a very big church with multiple campuses. He can be so disheartening.

2023.03.23 23:42 TheJessJr Vegans turned paleo?
Hey y’all, former vegan here (was for about 5 years or so), recently I’ve switched over to a more paleo esque diet under the supervision of my Dr. who suggest I cut dairy, soy, grains after some extensive lab testing. I’m wondering for those who made a similar change how long it took you to adjust? It’s been a little over a month now and I’ve noticed my energy does seem to be a bit more stable and consistent, but I haven’t noticed as much positive effects as people claim typically happen. Particularly difference in weight and my stomach still gets quite bloated frequently (I didn’t switch for the sole purpose of losing weight by any means but considering sudden weight gain was symptom of my body being off I assume I would lose some if all systems were functioning optimally). Also worth noting my thyroid levels are all in range.
Anyone make a similar switch and if so how long did it take you to see positive effects? I’ve done extensive allergy testing as well and only really came up as having a reaction to eggs so I don’t eat those either. Part of me wonders if my body is still forming the necessary digestive components from not having eaten meat for so long, but that’s just a potential speculation…any thoughts appreciated!

Decisive and urgent measures of the UNSC are necessary. Artsakh MFA in connection with the targeting of the population
“On 22 March, the Azerbaijani armed forces, once again violating the ceasefire, opened fire on civilians engaged in agricultural work in the administrative area of the town of Chartar of Artsakh’s Martuni region. This is already the third case of targeting civilians by Azerbaijan within a week. We recall that on 15 March, farmers working in the vineyards in the area adjacent to the Amaras Valley of the Martuni region, and on March 19, a civilian doing agricultural work on a tractor in the administrative area of the village of Taghavard were targeted with small arms fire from Azerbaijani combat positions. It is obvious that such attacks, which have become more frequent recently, are part of Azerbaijan's long-standing and consistent policy and are aimed at creating unbearable living conditions in Artsakh, harming the country's economy, and exerting psychological pressure on Artsakh Armenians. It is within this policy that for more than 100 days now, Artsakh has been under a blockade orchestrated by the Azerbaijani authorities, as a result of which the delivery of food, medicine and other vital supplies to the republic has been reduced to a minimum, and the rights of the people of Artsakh to free movement, proper medical care, education and other fundamental rights have been violated. Moreover, the Azerbaijani side regularly cuts the gas supply to Artsakh, obstructs the repair of the damaged high-voltage power line coming from Armenia, depriving the people of Artsakh of basic living conditions. Against the backdrop of the critical humanitarian situation in Artsakh, the demonstrations of the so-called "eco-activists" are accompanied by music, dancing, fireworks, consumption of alcohol and parties, which resemble a coven of hate in celebration of Azerbaijan's illegal and inhuman blockade of Artsakh and the suffering of 120 thousand people. By targeting civilians engaged in agricultural work, Azerbaijan is trying to prevent the citizens of Artsakh from mitigating, to some extent, the serious problems of food shortage caused by the blockade. Azerbaijan strives at all costs to break the will of the people of Artsakh to live freely in their homeland and does not shy away even from terrorist acts, such as the sabotage attack of 5 March, which left three Artsakh police officers killed and one seriously wounded. Clearly nationalist, anti-Armenian and inhumane calls are regularly made both by the country's top leadership and ordinary citizens. The latest such example is a video widely circulated recently in the Azerbaijani media, in which one of the “eco-activists” who blocked the Lachin Corridor, with Azerbaijan's connivance, literally threatens to slaughter an Armenian on the occasion of Nowruz holiday.
Against the background of the genocidal policy pursued by Azerbaijan at the state level, we consider it necessary for the United Nations Security Council to take decisive and urgent measures aimed at ensuring the fundamental rights of the people of Artsakh and preventing the genocidal intentions of Azerbaijan. We are convinced that the best and most effective way to save the people of Artsakh from ethnic cleansing and genocide is to recognise their right to self-determination and establish it as the basis for the conflict settlement”.

“We are really concerned by the increasing hostile rhetoric and the growing number of incidents in Nagorno Karabakh, and the unwillingness of the parties to reach an agreement in resolving the situation around Lachin Corridor,” Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing, adding that there is no alternative to the peace process. “We are resolute in this matter and we reaffirm our stance,” she added.
Zakharova called for a resumption of the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations.
“We call on the parties to display restraint in their statements and actions, to resume negotiations in all directions of the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement, including unblocking of transport connections, border delimitation, preparation of the peace treaty, holding of meetings between public figures and parliamentarians and other [directions],” she said.

Nagorno Karabakh Foreign Minister Sergey Ghazaryan said at a press conference that Russia-mediated meetings have taken place between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan pertaining to various humanitarian and technical issues. Ghazaryan underscored that Azerbaijan attempted to distort the agenda of the latest meeting.
The goal of that meeting was to discuss issues relating to the disruptions of the electricity and gas supplies, he said. “The attempts by Azerbaijan to distort the agenda of the meeting are unacceptable. But at the same time, we stand ready to have meetings in the same format, with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, for the solution of the abovementioned issues,” Ghazaryan said when asked in which case the meetings could become negotiations.
Speaking about a full negotiations process, the FM said: “We’ve numerously said that such meetings can only take place in an international format. The substantiations are rather clear.”
Ghazaryan noted that if Azerbaijan even violated the agreements reached in the OSCE Minsk Group talks, then it would definitely violate bilateral agreements as well.
“Only under an international format, and guarantees of implementation of obligations must be the most important component of such a process,” Ghazaryan added.

“First of all, such wordings are a gross interference into Armenia’s domestic affairs, moreover, national minorities not only do exist in Armenia, but they are also represented, they have mandates in the Parliament of Armenia, and this is guaranteed under the Constitution. At this moment there are four Members of Parliament representing the national minorities. And if such narratives don’t constitute interference into a country’s domestic affairs, then let’s say for the record that the persecutions against not only the press, the opposition, but also the national minorities are of systematic nature in Azerbaijan. The international press is full of articles about the murders and imprisonments of the leading activists protecting the interests of national minorities in Azerbaijan. Furthermore, many of these cases are revealed by eyewitnesses, the activists who survived torture and persecutions, or the families of the killed activists. Perhaps Azerbaijan ought to display goodwill and define seat quotas in its parliament for national minorities and guarantee it under its constitution. Perhaps this would be the first step in correcting the situation,” PM Pashinyan said at the Cabinet meeting.
In conclusion, Pashinyan added that a peace treaty will be achieved on the basis of the written documents that have been reached on the highest levels so far.
He said that Armenia will not deviate even for a moment from the path of developing Armenia and strengthening its democracy.

The "Victory" bridge, built by German prisoners in the 1940s, is strong and earthquake-resistant, but over the years, the structural elements have deteriorated and worn out, especially the sidewalks and side steps.
The repair of the bridge started in February. After starting the works, the builders found out that in addition to the planned cosmetic repairs, some parts of the bridge need to be thoroughly strengthened.
For several days, the construction works are going on mainly in the direction of the bridge, from Mashtots Avenue to Atenki Street, going to Hrazdan Stadium. The builders promise that they will open the traffic lane as soon as they finish dismantling the curbs and installing new ones. And the traffic lane in the other direction is already open.
Until the construction works are finished, the bridge's passengers are subjected to various tests. the existing traffic lane on the sidewalk serves not only construction equipment, but also pedestrians. The beginnings of Isakov and Mashtots avenues, which are already heavily trafficked, were additionally overloaded.
The specialist also has positive considerations. in recent years, according to him, the city authorities are more consistent, the parts of the streets that are being repaired are furnished more correctly. In the case of the "Haghtanak" bridge, the construction area is equipped with appropriate signs, says the specialist and emphasizes that the problem is in the culture of organizing the works and deadlines.
The company carrying out the repair of "Haghtanak" bridge has good news. the construction will be completed earlier than planned, in the middle of summer instead of the end of autumn. After the repair, the bridge will also have new lighting, the railings will be cleaned and painted. The builders assure that if the people of Yerevan have a little patience, they can forget about the inconveniences caused by the renovation of the 80-year-old historical structure with seven arches, 200 meters long, 25 meters wide, 34 meters high and considered one of the calling cards of the capital for a long time.

link Training sessions: participation will be short, payment based on salary
"The draft proposes that, when engaging an employee for a period of up to 30 days, the employer should pay at least the positive difference between the employee's basic salary and the monetary security calculated as a serviceman for each working day. For example, if an employee's salary is 200,000 drams, the latter participates in training sessions, and in return, as compensation, receives 80,000 drams from the Ministry of Defense, then the employer is obliged to pay the remaining part, at least 120,000 drams.
The minister clarifies that the employer does not have the obligation to pay wages to the employee who participates in the training sessions. It is only established that the workplace and the position are preserved. At this moment, the official rate for the assigned military position is calculated for the citizen.
The proposed regulation will make it possible to maintain the salary of the training camp participants. The Prime Minister reminds that the three-month period has been reduced to 25 days.
"At the same time, we have a regulation that when implementing the plan for training sessions, we should not invite more than a certain percentage of employees from the same institution to a training session, so that there is no burden on the institutions."
According to the decision of the government, from April 15 to June 15 of this year, training camps of reservists will be held. The reservists of the first and second ranks of the first group of reservists will be involved in them. Up to 953 citizens will participate in training sessions. 476 of them will be junior non-commissioned officers and privates, 25 will be senior non-commissioned officers, and 452 will be officer reservists. Reservists with motor rifle, rocket artillery, air defense, communications, reconnaissance, engineering, and technical specialties will participate in this 25-day gathering.
The 25-day gatherings in Armenia started this spring. In the first stage, according to the decision of the government, more than 3 thousand citizens were involved in the gatherings. The 25-day muster will be mandatory for all reservists between the ages of 20 and 55. Moreover, the citizen himself will choose what time of the year he can devote to it. This was announced by the Minister of Defense in October last year.
"We refuse the three-month gatherings. In fact, 21 days are the main service, 25 are for providing the organizational one. A citizen spends 7 days in training, 14 days in combat duty. The upcoming gatherings will be 25 days long. We refuse the three-month meetings. But it is mandatory for all RA citizens."
The Executive Committee believes that this is one of the important steps to have a professional army.

2023.03.23 23:38 lucsmth24 CSU Increasing Tuition 4% to Increase Staff Pay 5%
"CSU’s two highest-paid employees are football coach Jay Norvell, with a base salary of $1.7 million per year, and men’s basketball coach Niko Medved, with a base salary of $1.1 million. New CSU-Fort Collins President Amy Parsons is earning $600,000 per year, and more than a dozen vice presidents and other top administrators are paid $240,000 or more annually."
"They are all set to receive the same 5% increase for the 2023-24 academic year as graduate teaching assistants making $16,000 a year and food and dining service workers earning $15 an hour."
"CSU’s long-term debt, adjusted for inflation, has ballooned from $76 million in the 2001-02 academic year to $1.3 billion in 2022-23 — an average annual growth rate of 26%"
CSU System Chancellor Tony Frank earns $750,000-$1,000,00/yr. Frank created the $1.3 Billion Dollars in debt, while forcing a $250 Million Dollar on campus football stadium instead of housing for students/staff says this is "the only way"...
"CSU’s debt-service payments for fiscal 2023 (the 2022-23 academic year) were more than $54 million."

2023.03.23 23:09 ThatChef2021 Reducing Income for 30 Hours Childcare - Tax Year Nearly Over
Hi UKPF
Just wanted to check I have got some numbers correct, please.
Validating my 30 hours childcare codes, I get a rejection message and a call every quarter, them thinking that I will be over the £100K income threshold. I am wanting to make sufficient pension contributions and charity payments before the end of the year, to keep under the threshold.
Do the numbers below look correct?
I am looking at this as
"if I pay an extra £1,764.64 into my pension, on top of what I have already paid throughout the year, that will be grossed up by 25% and I will have a net adjusted income of £99,999." On a separate note, I have a limited company also making some pension contributions to my SIPP. They are paid gross and the SIPP provider will not claim any tax relief because it comes from the limited company. But, do these limited company contributions reduce my income? If so, perhaps the "Additional Gross Pension Required" is not needed. Logic tells me this is not the case (I haven't personally paid tax on the contributions) but I wanted to check.
INCOME: Total Income and Value of Benefits | £108,166.70 |
Target Income | £99,999 |
Excess Income (Income minus Target) | £8,167.70 |
INCOME REDUCING ITEMS SO FAR: SIPP Contributions [Net] | £2,880 |
Net Nest Contributions (Non-Salary Sacrifice) [Net] | £1,761.12 |
Charity Donations [Net] | £146.40 |
NET TOTAL | £4,787.52 |
GROSS TOTAL (Net x 1.25) | £5,987.40 |
FURTHER REQUIRED REDUCTIONS: Additional Gross Pension Required (Excess Income, minus GROSS TOTAL) | £2,183.30 |
Extra SIPP Contribution (will be grossed up by 25%, to reach £2,183.30) | £1,746.64 |

2023.03.23 22:58 DionysusSpring1992 When to try to leave a position
I'm currently working at a company that is by all means one of the best places to be employed in my area. Most people end up retiring from this company. They pay really well when comparing to others in the area and their insurance policy is super great. That being said, I have worked here for about a year and a half and regularly feel like I don't fit in with the people there and feel miserable being there and like I want to leave to go somewhere else. There is another company in the area that supposedly could pay more and could have about the same benefits. Someone from this company recently made the jump over and claimed they were getting a $30k jump in salary. I currently am on retention agreement and won't be released from it until about July of this year. I'm conflicted on whether or not I should try to apply to this other company considering I have not been with this.current for not a long amount of time.
