2022.10.05 20:09 NoBarracuda2508 Way too early offseason hot takes: One free agent each team should sign
Been going through basketball withdrawal since FIBA ended, and NBA preseason just doesn’t cut it. So I went through each team and thought of one free agent they should sign this offseason. Yes, I did put more thought into some of these than others.
Feel free to roast my picks, or tell us who you think your team should sign.
LAS VEGAS ACES – Tina Charles – PF/C
Tina’s ring-chasing journey has taken her from New York to Washington to Phoenix to Seattle over the past three seasons. If the Aces don’t cut someone or suspend Dearica Hamby’s contract for next season, Tina would have to be willing to take close to the minimum. But she’d be joining a team with a championship-level core and strong leaders in Becky Hammon, A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray.
Kiah Stokes was the clear weak link on the Aces championship roster. She came up with a couple of blocks and did well enough on the boards, but she’s a complete non-factor on offense. Charles is a downgrade defensively, but she might help the Aces unlock one of the most dominant offenses in the history of basketball. The Aces already have a strong culture, so Tina’s history of dysfunction shouldn’t keep them from making an offer.
CONNECTICUT SUN – Sophie Cunningham – G/F
The Sun’s grit and grind, bully ball style made them the villains of the 2022 playoffs. So why not go all-in on the heel turn and give people a real reason to hate them, while also filling their biggest need?
The Sun need a reliable three point shooter, and Cunningham was one of the best in the league this year. She’s shown the ability to play from the 2 up to the 4, a versatility that’s useful for a Sun team that will need to tinker with its rotations to see how it can get the best out of its All-Star frontcourt of Jonquel Jones, Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner. Most of all, she’s physical and she has the attitude and chip on her shoulder to fit in with the Sun.
Curt Miller had a lot of praise for Sophie when Phoenix played in Connecticut this year, calling her the most underrated player in the league. I’d put money on him at least making her an offer, but Phoenix does have the right to match any offer since she is an RFA.
CHICAGO SKY – Sami Whitcomb – G
This one was tough because Candace Parker, Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, Emma Meesseman, Azura Stevens and Rebekah Gardner are all free agents. There’s some uncertainty about Parker’s future, and there have been whispers about Vandersloot heading elsewhere going back to last offseason, but I’m going to assume here that all but Stevens and Gardner are coming back.
The Sky and their free-moving offense were a dominant force all season, but their age seemed to show in an exhausting semi finals matchup against Connecticut. Allie Quigley especially just didn’t look like the automatic shooting machine we’ve come to expect, and she was really up and down all season long. It might take some creative accounting to fit her into the salary cap, but Sami Whitcomb solves those questions immediately, becoming the reliable spot up shooter that Quigley just might not be anymore. Whitcomb had a somewhat down year efficiency-wise, but she would be in a better position to just focus on shooting as the fourth or fifth option on the Sky.
SEATTLE STORM – Courtney Vandersloot – PG
I know I just said I’m assuming Vanderquigs stays in Chicago, but what if the Washington native decides she’s spent enough time on her wife’s hometown team and wants to head closer to her own home?
Obviously the Storm need a new point guard since Sue Bird is (almost definitely) not coming back next season, and tying herself to 28-year-old Breanna Stewart instead of 36-year-old Candace Parker might look like a better option to Vandersloot as she thinks about putting a bow on her Hall of Fame career over the next few seasons. But replacing a GOAT-tier player, especially one who literally built the Seattle Storm franchise, can be a daunting task. And questions over where Stewart will play in the future – whether it's Turkey or New York – might make it a less attractive destination.
WASHINGTON MYSTICS – Azura Stevens – PF/C
The disappointing first-round sweep to the Seattle Storm doesn’t give credit to just how talented this roster is. But they live and die with Elena Delle Donne and her back, and they trusted that if they got her to the playoffs healthy, she could do her thing.
She pulled her weight in the playoffs, but their decision to rest her throughout the season doomed them to the 5 seed and a first round matchup on the road in Seattle. The Mystics went 18-7 with Delle Donne during the regular season, and 4-7 without her. Even one more win would have at least secured home-court advantage against Seattle, and flipping the non-EDD record to 7-4 would have pushed the Mystics up to the 3 seed.
Back injuries don’t just go away. We’ll probably see some level of load management for EDD for the rest of her career, so the Mystics need someone who can pick up the slack when she is resting. Azura Stevens is a good fit because of her versatility. She can come off the bench behind EDD and Shakira Austin, and she’s enough of a shooter that she can play in a lineup with both of them [with EDD at the 3]. And on nights that Delle Donne is resting, a lineup with Azura at the 4 and Shakira at the 5 will be able to frustrate even good frontcourts on defense.
DALLAS WINGS – Teaira McCowan – C
This might be cheating since every other team is getting a new player, but I don’t think I can overstate how much the Wings need to re-sign Teaira McCowan, who is a restricted free agent.
McCowan was as dominant a big as you could find in the SEC, but she floundered on the bench on a rudderless Indiana Fever team before the Wings traded two first round picks to bring her to Arlington this season.
For the first half of the season, it looked like McCowan’s talent would be lost to incompetence again as she sat on the bench. But she found her way into the starting lineup in July, and Dallas went 8-5 to end the season, securing the 6-seed in the playoffs. Finally given the opportunity, she showed that she can be a dominant force in the post.
She appears poised to see a max offer from at least one team, and Dallas has to match it. If they let her go, not only did they burn two first-round picks for a one-season rental they didn’t even use to her full potential – they will lose yet another star talent to dysfunction and incompetence.
NEW YORK LIBERTY – Nneka Ogwumike – PF/C
What, you thought I was going to say Stewie?
Putting aside dreams of the best player alive packing up and moving across the country to play for a franchise that hasn’t been to the Finals since the Patriot Act, there are other stars who might have good reason to leave the team they’ve called home for their entire career.
The Sparks are a mess and don’t look like they have a path back to being competitive in the immediate future, and Nneka Ogwumike might not want to waste the remaining years of her prime there. New York gives her the opportunity to form a formidable frontcourt with Natasha Howard, and join forces with a rising, playmaking star in Sabrina Ionescu. The defense and pick and rolls would be ridiculous.
It would be difficult to give up the marketing and media opportunities that come with being a star in LA, but New York offers the same opportunities – plus inroads into all kinds of lucrative post-playing careers.
PHOENIX MERCURY – Tiffany Hayes – G
Hayes might be a candidate for a change of scenery after spending ten seasons with the Atlanta Dream. The organization has been a mess the past few seasons, and while things seem to be turning around with Rhyne Howard and Tanisha Wright, her surprise absence at the end of the season to play a 3x3 tournament for Azerbaijan was an ominous sign.
Assuming BG is freed and wants to play next season, and Diana Taurasi doesn’t retire, adding Hayes could make Phoenix contenders again. Hayes’ best years may be behind her, but she’s still a very good 3 and D wing who will space the floor better than Diamond DeShields.
ATLANTA DREAM – Alysha Clark – F/G
After ROY Rhyne Howard, the Dream have a lot of holes to fill. Unless they can lure a real superstar, it doesn’t seem like there’s a path for them to jump into contention through free agency right away. So we’re looking for someone who can help them on the transition from a franchise in shambles back to relevancy.
Clark would step in as a versatile veteran leader, who can fill multiple roles depending on how the rest of the team comes together, and who can teach the Dream’s young core what it takes to win in this league. And she and Howard would make a ridiculous duo defending the wing.
MINNESOTA LYNX – Natisha Hiedeman – G
The Lynx have a lot of holes to fill after a disappointing lottery finish and the retirement of Hall of Fame Center Sylvia Fowles. Unfortunately for them, they have more than $600,000 tied up in Napheesa Collier, Aerial Powers and Kayla McBride, and only have $539,000 to fill six open roster spots. Really the only path to signing another max contract would be to fill the other five spots with players on the non-veteran minimum (which is not a good idea).
But Reeve likes to bet on players with upside, and Natisha Hiedeman has gone from Big East afterthought to pretty good shooter to solid two-way guard in just a few seasons— and she still has room to grow. Reeve said her team’s biggest problem last season was a lack of buy-in, and Hiedeman is the kind of player who can help your locker room culture. She’s worked hard quietly behind the scenes to become a solid defender, and she’s taken every opportunity she’s been given on the court and run with it.
She’s an RFA, so the Lynx will have to outbid the Sun to get her, but the Sun are pretty strapped for cash so it might not take that much. And the Wisconsin native might welcome a return to the upper midwest.
INDIANA FEVER – Brionna Jones – C/PF
It’s not often as a small-market team that you get a chance to sign a free agent who can take a franchise from a perpetual bottom dweller to the path to a potential contender, so the Fever can’t let Bri Jones get away. Sure Queen Egbo looked pretty good as a rookie, and she might turn out to be a pretty good W player some day. The Fever can’t let that stop them from getting a player who might be the second-best center in the WNBA after BG.
Bri Jones has maybe the strongest legs in the league and some of the quickest, smoothest footwork of any post player. She’s deceptively quick on defense, and she’s been the quarterback of some ridiculous defenses in Connecticut. Most importantly, she has the kind of quiet and humble, but fiercely determined attitude that can make her a cornerstone in a small market like Indy for years. They won’t be the only teams willing to pay good money to have Bri Jones, so they’ll need to sell her on her role and their future.
LOS ANGELES SPARKS –
No need to drag anyone else down with you. Just chill out for a bit and stop trading away your draft picks, then we’ll revisit.

2022.02.18 13:47 AnUltimateRessie VFLW: Round One Report & Round Two Preview (vs Hawthorn on Saturday) - Geelong Cats
Round One
Defeated Carlton Blues by 59 points at Deakin University, Geelong | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | Final |
Geelong Cats | 2.1 | 5.1 | 7.4 | 11.7 | 73 |
Carlton Blues | 0.0 | 0.1 | 1.2 | 2.2 | 14 |
Goals: Olivia Barber 3, Sachi Degiacomi 2, Claudia Gunjaca 2, Mia Skinner 2, Georgia Clarke, Breanna Pratt
Best: Olivia Barber, Paige Sheppard, Tamara Smith, Claudia Gunjaca, Sachi DeGiacomi
A free-kick friendly first quarter made sure that Geelong didn’t get too far away from Carlton but it did not last long as the Cats blew out the margin in the second quarter and held Carlton to a goalless first half. The Blues were able to score in the second half but so was Geelong as they kicked six goals to two to force the final margin to 59 points.
Geelong was able to set themselves up well after holding strong defensively under pressure with Stephanie Williams impressing the crowd at a new half-back role using her electric speed to move the ball forward while Melissa Bragg showed glimpses but was messy with her disposal. Olivia Barber was the Cats best in her return from a messy knee injury as she kicked three goals while being a strong presence across the ground collecting 17 disposals and nine marks. Barber also had to take ruck duties with 12 hit outs. VFL-listed duo Paige Sheppard and Tamara Smith look to back up their impressive 2021 seasons with Sheppard leading disposals (26) and clearances (10) while Smith followed behind her with 20 disposals and dominated the tackle statistic with 12 tackles.
Key Stat Winners: - Disposals: Paige Sheppard (26)
- Goals: Olivia Barber (3)
- Clearances: Paige Sheppard (10)
- Marks: Olivia Barber (9)
- Tackles: Tamara Smith (12)
- Hit Outs: Olivia Barber (12)

Geelong Cats vs Hawthorn Hawks
Saturday, February 19th, 12:00 pm at Deakin University, Geelong.
Where to watch?: Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/useAFLVictoria
Last time they met: Round 13, 2021: Hawthorn Hawks (4.2 26) defeated by Geelong Cats (4.8 32)
Last Week:
- Geelong Cats: Won against Carlton Blues by 59 points.
- Hawthorn Hawks: Won against North Melbourne by 59 points.
Ladder Position:
- Geelong Cats: 2nd
- Hawthorn Hawks: 1st
The Geelong Cats and Hawthorn Hawks both had fantastic starts to the season with similar scorelines to each other. It’s not clear how good the Hawks are going to be yet after only beating North Melbourne, who struggled in 2021, and that’s similar to the Geelong Cats and beating Carlton.
A home ground advantage and not having to travel should give Geelong the advantage but Hawthorn’s Tegan Cunningham will give the Cat’s lack of a ruckwomen some trouble.
Prediction: Geelong by 7 points.

2021.09.08 11:33 The_Real_Sceptray Current 2K21 Leaks Summarised
2K22 CHANGES SUMMARISED
NON-GAMEPLAY UPDATES
First off we've got the obvious changes, the soundtrack, team rosters, and player ratings will be changing this year. The updated versions of player ratings have been met with some controversy by players and fans alike. Here are some NBA2K22 ratings that are particularly contentious:
Russel Westbrook - 85 OVR - This is some serious disrespect for the man that overtook Big O for total career triple-doubles last season. Brodie will be playing with the LA Lakers this season.
LeBron James - 96 OVR - Last season LeBron showed serious signs of regression, and his age seems to finally be catching up to him. While he will undoubtedly be a great player for at least a few more years, few fans truly believe that The King is deserving of the tied-highest rating in the game.
Cade Cunningham - 80 OVR - I will concede that I am friends with a lot of Detroit Pistons fans, so this may be personal bias here. Most people I've talked to believe that Cade is deserving of about an 83 overall rating.
Breanna Stewart - 95 OVR - While many people will argue that ranking WNBA players with NBA players is simply unfair, the game doesn't see it this way. The simple truth of the matter is that Breanna Stewart would be, at most, a ~80 overall if she competed in the NBA.
GAMEPLAY UPDATES
Dribbling The dribbling system has been completely overhauled, so you can stick it out with your dribble god shooter build from 21. Dribbling is reportedly more skill-based and also much faster. The hesitation from 2K17 seems to be back in the game and more signature moves have been added.
Shooting Shooting is supposedly more customisable this year, with more options for release speeds and shot building. This system is, like dribbling, reportedly more skill-based. Precision shooting seems to be taking a bigger role in the game, and shot aiming is now more skill based.
Finishing Okay so hear me out - You don't need a release meter for dunking. The ball is released when your hand hits the ring. 2K really stuffed up now by putting a dunk meter in the new version of the game. Alley-oops are "more skill based", what this means I am not sure, but that's what 2K says.
In Conclusion
So the game is worse for casual gamers, but players who pay-to-win and are genuinely good at the game seem like they're about to have a good time. Start saving guys, 2k has said nothing about changing VC prices.

2020.08.03 07:07 tiny_doughnut AFLW Sign and Trade: Master Post
Hi everyone!
Going to keep an eye on incoming signings and list changes as we go along, don’t hesitate to post any articles that you see and give me a poke if I haven’t updated!
Hope you’re all staying safe and well, and we’ll be back at Ikon Park for season 2021 soon 🍩❤️
Points worth remembering for this trade period:
- The trade period runs until Wednesday 12th of August, however players can continue to be re-signed and restricted free agents (new in 2020) can move clubs until Monday, 17th of August.
- Players qualify for restricted free agent status if their club offer a lower-tier contract than they were previously on. If a rival club has a better offer, their existing club can either match or allow the player to freely move.
- Delisted free agents may still find a new home until 2pm, Friday 21 August, after which the AFLW draft order will be confirmed.
- Clubs can sign up to 27 players (including up to three rookies) before the draft, a date for which has not yet been set.
- The Victorian draft nomination rule (players could choose Geelong, Melbourne metro or Victoria) will no longer be in effect this year. The rule - which gave players a degree of choice if they were unwilling or unable to travel for the part-time competition - was only in place for Geelong's first two seasons.
- For the vast majority of these signings, I’m taking a best guess on the length unless specifically stated by the clubs in their announcements. If I’ve had any slip-ups, pls let me know so I can update!
