Hello everyone! I wanted to post and ask for your support. For some time now I have been working passionately on a giant monster card game based around many original Kaiju which I plan to sell someday (hopefully soon). I also have been working on Godzilla cards that can work with the game that I will hand out for free (particularly at events like G-Fest).
Any support would make my life not just my day. I am between jobs currently after some terrible people toyed with my previous employment and I was forced to quit. I have wanted to make my art and writing my career for years. Any support (even just a like on one of my social media pages) would mean the world to me as I desperately want to expand this game exponentially!

2023.03.28 04:59 altforrule34_ez Slight rant post/request to the mods: I feel like we should consider making a quality rule.

(Note beforehand, there are posts I use as examples in this post, I do not specifically hate/dislike anyone I reference in this post, nor do I condoned any harassment towards any people who might do stuff I rant about here. If you actively try to be a jackass to people who make that stuff I mention below being frank eat shit and fall of your horse.)
Now I know the title might sound a bit… gatekeepy which to a lot of people is a bad thing(and I can also agree on it generally being a jackass move a lot of the time) but let me explain:
I’ve felt like making this discussion/rant post for a bit now but haven’t really had the motivation to do so fully. Usually I’d just see posts like this think “wow couldn’t even put in enough effort to actually make a TN or anything? And just asking for stuff? Really lazy.” and move on, but today for SOME GOD FORESAKEN REASON SOMEBODY DECIDED TO JUST STRAIGHT UP POST DEVIANTART CRINGE LEVEL QUALITY PORN under the memes and joke matchups flair. This was kinda the straw that broke the camels back for me and has motivated me to be typing this out.
Now outside of the post I linked I have also seen…”poorly made” Thumbnails to put it in a nicer sense that generally look something like this(example made by me) which are far better step up from what I linked before but still like…are kinda bad. I’m not usually one to shit on TNs I know not everyone is a TN contest winner level TN maker(myself included) but still these are just like bottom of the barrel level quality, even my first TN ever has a higher quality then this and all it took was a few google searches of “death battle template” and the characters, going into google slides and making it.
Now of course like the title says I suggest to keep the sub a more better experience and to keep it more on track of DEATH BATTLE MATCHUPS(which I feel like the sub loses track of despite how I do like how the community is) example more leaning towards the first image I showed is implementing a quality rule. Now that would be up to the mods to discuss but I’d say the my personal baseline would be a TN like this, not particularly super flashy or effects heavy, but still a decent thumbnail which of course doesn’t mean it exactly has to be something like that but generally I’d say it should have
  1. Both characters(obviously) that are TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND IMAGES(those who can’t find any I implore you to use adobe express and a little bit of creativity depending on how it turns out if you don’t got renders for either). Edit: someone has pointed out to me how this might be a bit harsh of a rule so I’d say not needing transparent images if fine as long as your actually using artwork too.
  2. A background(for those who might struggle with that here is the basic death battle background
  3. The death battle logo of course.
Now if this was a perfect world I’d also suggest maybe just banning cropped porn TNs but that’s probably asking to much from the community.
Now another thing that might get me the more flak for is
We should include removing unrelated AMAs in this rule
Yes, you read that correctly. I said it. While I love how the community feels close and such we do tend to stray from the purpose of the subreddit sometimes with these AMAs. I don’t think any of these people doing them are maliciously posting them or anything I just feel like they should either be directly related to death battle or Vs debating things. This is a example of what I mean as a OK AMA to do(also a example of meeting the basic TN requirements looking at it) and not something like this(no hate though just was the most recent example)
Something else I’d like to say if this were to be added as a rule I think we should have a pinned post or smth like that linking a guide on the how to make a basic death battle TN. I’m working on my own video being a guide on how to make TNs(shameless plug) but I still think it would be a nice tool for guiding new users on how to get started here.
As for any type of punishment I think the mods should just remove the post, link a comment leaving the hypothetical “how to make a basic DBM post” and it’s a repeat offense maybe a like day long ban from posting.
Anyways these are just my opinions on this and want to hear about what you guys think if this is a good idea or if I’m about to get flamed for this.

Using Godzilla, Pale Man and Giant Plankton from Creature From The Krusty Krab in “Revenge Of The Giant Plankton Monster” as references, I made Plankzilla from a fan made episode concept back in 2020. His back is covered in orange spines, the largest of which resembles a crown. His antenna are whip-like and generate electricity. He has a retractable eye in the palm of each hand, which is handy for firing extra eye beams and whose beams are powerful enough to melt pure steel.

The goal of the series is to create a cohesive timeline that includes (almost) every Godzilla movie, as well as comics and games. The series contains several incarnations of Godzilla, as well as many monsters derived from his DNA that could be considered extended family. This thread will cover them.
Kaiju Threat Level Explanation.
This is taken from the Godzilla Fanon Wiki. While it seems to be written by Frank, I cannot confirm this. It's the only explanation of the threat levels that I can find, so take it with a grain of salt.

The Godzillas

Godzillasaurus

A therapod dinosaur that lived in what is now Southeast Asia, several Godzillasaurs survived the extinction brought about by the battle between King Ghidorah and Gigamoth. By the 1950s a pair of brothers were living on Lagos Island where they were mutated by the Castle Bravo nuclear tests, becoming Godzillas I and II.

Godzilla I, the standard Godzilla

In 1954, the first Godzilla appeared on Odo Island and eventually attacked Tokyo, only to be killed by Dr. Serizawa's Oxygen Destroyer. His awakening started the modern Age of Monsters.
The initial Godzilla Bio covers all 4 "main" Godzillas in the series. Feats from that Bio should apply to Godzillas II-IV as well.

After being killed by Destoroyah in 1995, the radiation from Godzilla II's meltdown was absorbed by his body, reviving him and mutating him into a full grown Godzilla. He fought a number of kaiju before dropping off the map in 2013, presumed dead due to injuries from a battle.

2023.02.28 18:27 HatS5486 About the Monsterverse - Rant/Vent

This was taken from a post I made on my art account expressing my thoughts on the Monsterverse movies.
I think the first two Monsterverse films, G14 and Kong Skull Island, are much well done than the later films. The more I thought about it, the more I was gravely disappointed with how the newer Monsterverse films (and their screenplays, for that matter) turned out.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still a Godzilla fan.
The things that made me realize that this franchise's writing was going down the potty was basically this: GKOTM's underwhelming Burning scene, (Which served no purpose than just fanservice) GVK's drilling into Hollow Earth scene (Stupid as heck, imo. I know Godzilla's done crazier stuff, but this takes the cake!) The nail in the coffin was when they killed off Serizawa's son, said character they literally did jack-shit with.
Since GKOTM, the future movies' screenplays have only gotten worse from there.
Not to mention the director of GKOTM (who's also directing the future Monsterverse Apple+ series) lowkey insulted the original 2014 Godzilla character design.
"I thought that the design was beautifully done, ..but it also felt like something that nature could've crafted."
The key word is the 'but'; they pretty much redesigned the spikes and altered his proportions to appeal more to fans, making him look less 'mountain-like' and practically giving Gareth Edwards' original design the middle finger.
(I do like both the 2014/2019 Godzilla designs, but the way they disrespected Gareth's original design for the pure fan service.. well, it makes me raise an eyebrow.)
All of this among other reasons (Like the toxicity/gatekeeping of some parts of the fandom, for example.) is why I have some rather low expectations for future Monsterverse/American Godzilla film installments, hopefully said future films won't be pure fanservice or a cliched mess, but I kinda doubt it at this point.
I really hope that the screenplay/writing of the next installment of the Monsterverse isn’t a cliched dumpster fire/fanservice filled mess like GVK was.
It’s not what the fans wanna hear, but that movie has problems, hopefully they’ll have better writers on the next one.
I also hope they won’t make Godzilla into more of a Hollywood cash-grab mary sue, and kill off a character immediately after introducing them and doing jack-crud with them.

I recently had to move out of my old house, and could not bring a beloved plush toy with me, so now I'm trying to find it again. The plush was somewhat like a Trex or an alligator, but because of the spikes I always called it Cuddle Godzilla.
It had big white and black muppet-looking eyes, and a zipper for its mouth. It has an actual compartment in the stomach so that you could put stuff in the mouth and store it. The tail was kind of stubby and short, and it was very chunky and round of a plush. A lot of the detail in the plush was done by sewing in specific spots. The main color was a vibrant lime green that held up even years after I got it, the spikes were rounded and three-"pronged" for lack of a better term, like an oval with an extra curve. The spikes were a darker almost foresty green. I believe the stomach was a lighter yellow green but I don't remember. The inside of the mouth was pink. The dates on the post are around when I got it as a child.
