2023.06.06 03:53 something-wrong1234 The story that was created in r/pollgames.

You, shmungus, are eating a hamburger on a boat when suddenly, a woman walks up to you. She asks you to help find her child. You told her you would, and she led you to where she last saw her kid. It was the back of the boat. All of a sudden, she pushed you off. You looked for something to grab onto, and you found the anchor. You held on to the chain for dear life. The ship came back to land and you hopped off and swam to shore. People started looking at you strangely. A child walked up to you and asked if you were okay. Offering her hand, the child smiled. You took her hand and she was shining with happiness. Her mom came over and picked her up. The child protested and you heard her say she liked you. You smiled, and sat down on the beach.
Chapter 2: You went to the resturaunt and sat down. A waitress came to your table and you realized that she was the woman who pushed you off the boat. You saw that her name was Kimberly. You decided to order a hamburger and when you finished eating, you exited the resturaunt and called the police. When you explained the situation, they said they'd look into it. Later, you were wandering around the city when you got tired. You had a bit of money. You decide to go to a hotel and rent a room. Later that day, you find out that there is a pool. When you're going down to the pool, you see the girl from the beach and her mom. The girl notices and waves. You wave back. You both go to the pool, and while the girl plays with the other kids, you and her mom begin to talk. You explain that you were walked out on by your wife, who took your son. The woman introduced herself as Kylie, and her daughter's name was Cynthia. The two of you talked about some fun adventures, and you find out that you like her.
Chapter 3: after a few hours of talking, you asked for Kylie's number to stay in touch. To your disbelief, she said yes. You returned to your room, and went to bed. When you woke up, you saw a text message from your son. It says "hey pops. I miss you and am going to a small resturaunt tomorrow. Can we meet?" You went to the resturaunt your son was going to, and you saw him.
Chapter 4: "Hey, champ. How you doing?" You asked. "Good. Finally moved out. Mom desperately wanted to keep me from seeing you but I miss you." Yout son replied "Jeremy, I missed you. Glad you reached out to me." You said. You and Jeremy caught up with eachother. He now has a loving wife who is expecting a baby in 4 months. You smile and look at how much Jeremy's grown. Suddenly, Kylie and Cynthia come in, and notice him. They wave and come to talk. Jeremy flashes you a look, and you shake your head, laughing. The two girls meet Jeremy, and then he goes home to care for his wife. You, Kylie and Cynthia finished eating and walked back to the hotel. It was time for you to be on the move again. You never really had a chance to live somewhere permanently. You accidentally blurted it out and Kylie offered for you to stay at their place. You scratch your neck and smile in embarrasment.
Chapter 5: When the two girls took you to their house, Kylie apologized for it being small. You told her not to be sorry for giving you a place to live. You smile and decide that you are cooking dinner tonight. You went out and bought some groceries, and whipped up some burgers. You, Kylie and Cynthia all dig in. They are joyous with how good it is. It soon became late, and Cynthia was told to get ready for bed. Kylie then asks what led you to wish ashore that day. You decided to tell her that you were pushed off of a boat. Kylie looked at you and you could tell in her gaze that she felt sorry. You told her that she didn't need to be sorry and you were grateful for Cynthia's kindness. You then fell asleep.
Chapter 6: You were having a dream of warmth all around you. No pollution or crime. It was the ideal life. When you woke up, you found Cynthia and Kylie sleeping right next to you. When Kylie woke up, you said good morning and she started apologizing. You said it was okay as long as she slept well. When Cynthia woke up, you decided to make breakfast. Afterwards, you look for a job, and find three to go for. Our of the three choices, you choose to go for welding. After a bit of training and research, you try and get the job, and qualify immediately! You're quite shocked. On your first day of work, you do so well, that the boss wants to promote you! HR doesn't allow it because it's your first day. A week later you get your first pay. You got a good sum of money, and are considering moving out. When you tell Kylie and Cynthia, Cynthia asks you to stay, and Kylie just says it is your choice.
Chapter 7: You decide to stay because of Cynthia asking. You keep making money to help with rent and you look for houses to buy, because the apartment the three of you are staying in is really loud. You find 5 houses. You choose one with two floors, two bedrooms, and three bathrooms. When you, Kylie and Cynthia moved in, you all stared in amazement. It looked magnificent. After exploring and playing around, night rolls around. You claim a bedroom, and Kylie takes the other one. Cynthia asks to go in with you. You tell her that she should accompany Kylie. She nodded and said goodnight, then you slept like a baby.
Chapter 8: The next morning you are working out and Kylie and Cynthia join. You let Cynthia and Kylie join you, and you teach them stuff from when you were a kid learning fighting. You taught them how to punch properly, throw good kicks, and trained their endurance. Weeks go by, and one day, after a workout session, Kylie and Cynthia walk over to you and give you a hug, thanking you for being there and helping them. You hugged them back, smiling. The three of you stood there for three minutes, and when you all let go, everybody smiled. You got a text from Jeremy, and it was a photo of him, his wife, and their first-born son. Beaming with pleasure, you congratulate him and his wife. He then asks if you want to come down.
Chapter 9: When you came to the hospital, you met Jeremy's wife, Amie. She was a sweet girl with a soothing aura. Amie held the baby and you took a look at it. "It's a boy. We named him Drake." Amie said. You picked up the baby gently, and held it in the air. "This baby will be spoiled rotten." You said enthusiastically. Everyone shared a quick laugh. "Mom was here earlier. She never seems to want to meet you." Jeremy said solemnly. "Never mind that Jeremy. You've got your kid and wife to take care of now." You said, hand on Jeremy's back. When you get back home you get a text from a number. It said "hey. If you're alive, head to the alley between the mall and the office building. I know this is the right number, because Jeremy had it on his phone."
Chapter 10 (finale): You go to the alley with a metal pipe and a kitchen knife. A figure in a hood stands at the other end. The figure whipped out a knife of her own and lunged at you. You blocked with the pipe and jabbed the knife out, catching the mask that the silhouette was wearing. The person jumped back, but you went forward again, underhand slashing at the mask. The mask falls and behind it lies your ex-wife's face. She charges at you, screaming. "I should've made sure you were dead when you were on the boat!" She shouted at you. You kicked the knife out of her hands and tried to go for her again, but she pulled out another knife and stabbed you in the shoulder. You wonder if you should pull the knife out and use it. You decide not to pull out the knife. You take your pipe and lunge, but soon you realize that was a mistake. Kimberly (your ex) slashed your left eye and stabbed you with another knife she had hidden. You wobbled forward and she kicked you into the ground. You lay on the ground, staring at Kimberly. She walks toward you, twirling a butterfly knife she lunges, and then something drives into her. Jeremy stands in front of your Kimberly and Kylie and Cynthia drag you back. "Mother or not, I'll hurt you if you hurt someone I love." Jeremy said, glaring. He leapt forward and kicked Kimberly. She dropped the knife and Jeremy picked it up, slashing her tendons so she can't move. "We saw the text." Kylie said. Jeremy knocked Kimberly to the ground and tied her up with a rope and called the police. They came and arrested Kimberly, and you blacked out. (Two years later...) "Honey get up." Kylie said. In the two years after the incident, you and Kylie got married, and were raising Cynthia together. You, Kylie and Cynthia were going to a meeting with Jeremy, Amie and Drake. The six of you asked someone to take a picture, and you put your arm around Kylie and Cynthia, smiling when the camera took the picture. The end.

2023.06.06 03:52 After-Tutor-8620 What do I do?

I am 15M and as of just now I have no idea what to do. Today was a normal day me and my sister 12F are home alone while our parents are at work and are doing our usual chores and hanging out but that's not the point. At around 5pm my father gets home and I say hello and welcome home and talk with him but the whole time he's angry in every response so I kinda avoided him my mother got home around 6 and I help her bring stuff in and go to my room. A little later I hear shouting but I think nothing of it as they mess around sometimes but then I hear a loud crash and lots of yelling and know there fighting they do fight off and on a out dumb shit but today was different someone broke and threw something when they fight yelling is all that happenes not hitting or breaking but not this time, I couldn't move I was scared so I waited there in my bed for what felt like forever but it was like 5 minutes or so. I slowly peek out and see that my mother's favorite vase had been thrown at the wall and everything on the counter had been flung off into the kitchen as I walked over I saw my father outside smoking a cigarette and my mother is cleaning, so I not knowing what to do I help clean, a few minutes ago by and he comes in saying that I shouldn't help her clean her mess all I tell him is that I want to help so the house is clean He doesn't respond to me but instead yells at my mother more and she yells back and I don't know what to say or do so I stay silent and clean up, He goes into his room and I finish cleaning with my mother, so I'm not sure what to do so I just go to hangout with my sister we talked and she cried for awhile and we had the dog in her room with us because she didn't want to be neer either our parents. So after awhile we take the dog out our mother comes out to clean the porch and we talk and I ask what the hell happened, she told me they started to argue a bit and she got mad and hucked a thing of peanuts at him hit him on his cheek so he got mad and yelled calling her a whore and a cunt and flipped out and flung everything off the counter and threw her favorite vase at the wall hitting my nieces toys with dirty water, "I cleaned them all up they are all good" and he took off his wedding ring and threw it at the floor at her and said he wants a divorce and her being already really pissed said sure that she would call her dad to get a check to do it, she started to cry telling me and my sister so my sister hugged her for a bit then they started cleaning the porch again and I sat on the bottom steps with my dog as my father came out to smoke, they start yelling again and stop fast after they tell about divorce again and finally realized there are kids and parents next door who can hear them he goes in we sit out for a bit longer and then go to my sisters room again with the dog, as I'm writing this my sister is on the top bunk reading her book while I'm laying down on the bottom bunk with the dog. I just don't know what I should do about all this.

2023.06.06 03:52 veryrealzack Ideas for a first time stay at home dad with a baby for the summer?

I’m a teacher. This is the first summer I’ll be home with our baby (approaching 12 months). I’m really excited and wanted to get some ideas of things I can do with baby. Whether that’s places to explore or activities at home, I’d love to hear what you do with your baby during the summer? If it helps: We live in the urban area of a small town with your typical small town amenities and a few major cities within 90 minutes.

2023.06.06 03:50 rxnoel the thing that really gets to me…

how is her house ALWAYS messy? she’s a stay at home mom, we’re pretty sure Sam doesn’t actually have a job right now, and didn’t she say she has a nanny/babysitter a few times a week? she’s always making videos of her cleaning her bathroom and organizing closets, her kitchen always looks disgusting, etc. how many times do you have to do this until you learn to actually keep it clean? and they just moved into a new house…. blows my mind that it’s THAT messy already.

2023.06.06 03:49 Straight_Assist_4747 Stupid trigger

I was lying on my couch earlier watching a TikTok live while waiting for a script to finish running (I work from home). I exited the live for 5 seconds and unmistakably heard a man's voice saying "gotcha" to the left of me.
I know it was probably just someone passing by outside or from my phone. I know if it wasn't then it was just a hallucination. But I've spent the last 5 hours coming up with elaborate ideas of who it could have been. The CEO of my company catching me watching TikTok. My landlord seeing my apartment unkempt. My ex-boyfriend telling me he found my new address. Someone the government sent to intimidate me. I can talk myself out of each excuse but then another just surfaces to replace it.
Going to make dinner and call a friend but I feel fucking awful and I hate this fucking cloud of anxiety. I feel like it will never go away, just keep waxing and waning and taking new shapes.

2023.06.06 03:47 AlwynEvokedHippest How feasible would it be to automate a sliding bolt lock using a Pi/similar and a DC motor? (quite possibly a ridiculous idea)

How feasible would it be to automate a sliding bolt lock using a Pi/similar and a DC motor? (quite possibly a ridiculous idea)
I've a door inside my home that I'd like to put a lock on, that can automatically open at a pre-set time (to stop the cat rushing into the bedroom and causing chaos at 3am, haha).
There's a ton of ready made locks that do this, but they all require installation inside the body of the door while replacing existing handles etc, and living in a rented place I can't do that.
But a couple of screws or similar on the outside of the door or door frame would be fine.
So essentially a "smart" version of the lock in the image at the bottom of this description would be ideal (I realise any custom or even pre-made smart version of this would be bulkiemay have multiple parts).
My initial utterly janky, and probably ridiculous, idea was to have a DC motor controlled by a nearby mounted Pi (or maybe a simpler board), which would pull a small string connected to the rotating shaft and the handle of the bolt. I'd only need the opening action automated.
I'm going to assume my idea is pretty foolish, but is there a way to achieve something like this in a sane way?

2023.06.06 03:47 ScandalNavian42 Housing a 16-year-old who has been kicked out of her home

We are in Ontario, Canada for context.
My (41F) kiddo’s friend (16F I’ll call her V) has been kicked out of her house, and has asked to stay with us, to which I wholeheartedly agreed to (this poor girl has a very traumatic past, and emotionally abusive parents). I looked up the laws surrounding the rights of a 16-year-old, and found this:
“In Ontario, at 16 years of age or older, you can generally decide where you want to live and you do not need a legal guardian.
You can live with someone else against the wish of your legal guardian. The other person will not be charged with a criminal offence as long as they do not assist you in leaving home.”
I have spoken with V’s parents; initially they told me they would have to call the police and have V picked up from my house; but after speaking to them for about 15 minutes or so I convinced them that I wasn’t interested in any details; who said or did what or if V was kicked out or left of her own free will. All I wanted was for V to feel safe and supported. I talked with V’s parents for a bit longer; they decided not to call the police and agreed to let V stay at our house for 2-3 days for everyone to calm down, process feelings and then start to make steps and a plan to go forward.
Her parents (dad and step-mum) also agreed to us stopping by their house to pick up some of V’s belongings, things she’ll need for school etc. I went with her and chatted with her parents and assuaged their fears of me “falling” for V’s lies and manipulation. I reiterated that I was on no one’s “side”, didn’t know any details of what led to the blowup, but was open to keep in communication with them so they know V is safe, going to school, and completing assignments.
I did not help V move any of her things out; she packed and carried her bags herself, and on the way out her dad told her to “Get the fuck out”, and sarcastically told me ‘good luck’.
My question is, given that V has a history of running away and is known to the local police as a previous missing person when she was younger, should I call or visit the local police station with V to let them know that V is staying with me, of her own free will, and will be staying with us indefinitely? So that if and when V’s parents call them in a few days when she doesn’t return, to report her missing, the police have V’s location and our contact information on file and know she is not in fact missing?
Is that a terrible idea that is asking for trouble or is it actually a good idea to be completely upfront and transparent? I have no intention of forcing V back with her parents, but at the same time if she chooses to return I support her choice.

2023.06.06 03:46 versenwald3 Undercover Aliens

[WP] There is a community of ~800 aliens, from around 30 species, stranded on earth due varied accidents. They live incognito. Lately they only have one conversation- the growing tech of human intelligence agencies and militaries. Their clock is ticking.
------
After his unfortunate crash-landing and subsequent stranding on a tiny, inconsequential blue-green planet, Frazzo (or Frank Levine, as he'd rebranded himself) learned one thing quite quickly.
It was this: happy hour was a magical time of day.
What wasn't there to love? The $5 margaritas, the cheap tacos, the buzz of energy, and of course, the thrill of hiding in plain sight. It was a fine line to walk - alcohol didn't quite affect his system as strongly as it did for humankind - but it still had a dampening effect on his inhibitions.
In other words, it was fun to see how shitfaced he could get without making a mistake that would out him as an alien.
It was Thursday, and it was a fine day for happy hour. Frazzo was out with his work colleagues, enjoying his third or fourth (really, who was counting?) margarita, billed straight to the company card. His head was getting really quite wonderfully cloudy, and he struggled to follow along as his coworker Daniel waxed eloquent about the woman from Accounting that he was trying to work up the nerves to ask out.
Nodding along, Frazzo took another sip of his drink. If he ever made it back to Sector Mu-7, he would definitely bring back some tequila. Really, the rest of the Dudraali didn't know what they were missing out on!
Suddenly, Frazzo realized that the conversation was now deader than a fly that had a love affair with a zap racket. Scrambling, he rewound the last few minutes that had passed. What had he missed?
Looking around, he tried to figure out the source of the disturbance, and saw that Rina was pointing a shaking finger at his drink. The drink he had just taken a long sip from. Was there something wrong with it? It tasted fine....oh.
Frazzo's long, mosquito-like proboscis lay in the drink. He quickly retracted it, but the damage had been done.
"Er...excuse me," he said, lamely. "I need to go to the men's room."
Well, this was it. He would have to find a new job. Relocate. Create a new identity. Inwardly, Frazzo wasn't too upset - he had known that this day would come sooner or later. And besides, the idea of starting from a clean slate was somewhat refreshing. He could be whoever he wanted to be!
As he washed his hands, he ran over some ideas. Francis Libbow? Fredrick Lowell? He wasn't a huge fan of either of them, but he'd like for his alias to at least have some resemblance to his true Dudraali name.
Well. He could workshop it.
"Frank?"
Shit. Frazzo clocked Daniel's curious face, peeking into the men's room.
Perhaps he could escape out the window? Were they going to turn him into NASA? Or whatever mysterious governmental agency that was in charge of alien life?
"No no no, don't run," Daniel said hastily, raising his arms in a placating gesture. "I just wanted to say....me too."
And as he said the words, Daniel removed his baseball cap to reveal two bright-pink antennae, one of which executed a shy little wave.
There were no words. Taking this as his cue to continue, David hesitantly approached Frazzo.
"Take it from me, this is salvageable," he said. "Maybe we can say you had some surgery recently? And the doctors gave you some straw that you have to drink through, and though it looks like it's part of your body, it's really not?"
Taking a deep breath, Frazzo nodded. "Okay. Maybe it's fine," he said. "Let's go."
On their way back to the table, the bartender signaled at Frazzo to come over.
"Couple of folks wanted to buy you some drinks," she said, sliding over four salt-rimmed glasses. "Two of them said you made them think of home, another said that they miss the ten moons, and one more said that they'd love to practice speaking certain languages with you."
Frazzo's brain whirled, and it wasn't just from the alcohol. The planet Dudraa was orbited by ten moons, and he didn't speak any languages other than English...and Dudraalian. What in the blazes was going on?
The bartender winked at him. "Think you've suddenly made a lot of friends. And personally, I'd love to know if you have a ticket that could take me out of this world."

2023.06.06 03:44 Mello_Jell0 F1 visa interview coming up

My cousin's F1 visa interview for bachelor's , Major: biology/biological science is coming up and i am unable to come up with some solid answers for basic interview questions.. mainly 1. What are your plans after graduation? Context: She wants to pursue future studies in Usa after her bachelor's but i think that could be seen as a red flag when framing answers. Another one was, "I plan to come back to my home town after finishing bachelors education" but this one fails at the logic of why pursue bio science in usa when u can get it in india ? Also bioscience education in usa is not valid in india and vice versa as far as i knw, so it fails on that aspect as well.
If there are any bioscience major reddittors, please share your responses so that i can better gauge on what has worked so far... any other ideas from fellow redditors are also welcome. Thanks in advance folks.

2023.06.06 03:44 CreeperTacoBoss Reviving more oldies

Two more role ideas, both for coven
Mafia - they pick a player during daytime to invade. Then at night they literally enter the home of the player and try to chase them and attack them. If they kill them by nights end, they die. If not, they survive. The player the mafia attacks can still use their night abilities. And obviously, the figure they see attacking them is the silloette that resembles the role, not the player skin.
Godfather - they pick a player during daytime to command mafia to invade. Whoever is the mafia will attack the godfathers target. If there is no mafia, the godfather attacks the player themself. Same deal as the mafia, except the godfather is slightly faster.

2023.06.06 03:42 AffectionateWear6713 W211 Randomly shutting off with engine codes

I bought a 2008 Mercedes E350 Automatic with 4matic from my grandfather's neighbor for $1,500. It was sitting in his neighborhood for a couple of months. We put a new battery in it and it sprang to life, the engine sounded okay as well. When in park however, it would shut off after a random period of time.
Today I got an oil change for it. the mechanic said theres an oil leak somewhere if thats relevant. afterwards at a red light the car shut off while in drive. I had to take the key out and try turning it back on. at first it clicked and wouldnt budge but after a few attempts I was able to safely drive it home without it shutting off again. while reversing into a spot later in the evening it happened again. it seems to happen at lower speeds.
they put a new engine in it 3 years ago. current engine has 70k miles. the total vehicle mileage is 208k
important engine codes: P0017 (NO P0016 present.. just 17), P0300
less important ones i think: P0448, P0051, P0414, P0031, P0458, P0037, P0057, P2257
i just need help getting an idea of what could be going on.

2023.06.06 03:42 kaceymustdiggraves [Tenant - CA, USA] Downstairs neighbors breaking all kinds of rules, making living here an absolute nightmare. How to approach?

Hi everyone, hope this all makes sense. Frankly I'm fed up with my neighbors and I'd love to just break my lease and get out of here, but unfortunately I renewed my lease right before all this started happening, so I think I'm pretty stuck. Just looking for some advice on how to continue bringing this up with my property manager.
It's quite a long story, but essentially, I'm living in a four-unit building with two upstairs and two downstairs units. Each is a two bed, one bath, ~850sqft. For my first year living here, everything was fine... neighbors were annoying, but other than occasional noise, it was manageable. So much so that I decided to renew my lease.... big mistake.
The neighbors that previously lived beside me in the other upstairs unit, moved into the downstairs one once it opened up. While they had barely been a nuisance before, something changed and it changed fast upon them swapping apartments. This was a family of (I believe) 5-- two parents and three children, the oldest of which is likely around 10 and the youngest is a toddler. Over the past few months, there has been a population boom within that apartment. As of now, I've counted at LEAST 6 adults, in addition to the children, that are somehow constant enough to have a significant presence in the complex, yet not constant enough for me to recognize them. This alone makes me wildly uncomfortable, as the new adults are big, grown men who speak little if any English, and I'm a small woman. I dread coming home at night (at all, really, but whatever) because they are often outside drinking, smoking, and gambling, and will watch me as I leave from my car to my door. There are so many of them in the apartment that at least one of the men sleeps in his car, parked directly next to mine. Which also makes me extremely uncomfortable.
Since moving below me, I have seen them in the patio (directly under my bedroom window) with all sorts of power tools and saws, and a handful of large planks that honestly could only be temporary walls being cut and installed. From inside, I have heard all of these tools being used as well. I let the property manager know about this immediately, as I was hoping to nip it in the bud and get it dealt with quickly. He let me know that he would speak to them about it, and the outright obvious construction stopped, but I did continue to hear noises from inside that were beyond the normal "drilling a shelf into a wall" sort of sounds.
I have also complained about them smoking around the property, and leaving cigarette butts everywhere. This was met with signs being posted in a few spots that it's a no smoking property, along with a city municipal code to back it up. I've got no idea if the tenants were spoken to about it, or if the signs were just put up to try and "fix" it without having to confront. I'm going to guess the later because while it has decreased very slightly, it certainly has not stopped.
The strange men have also decided that my parking lot is their space, so long as I'm not parked in it. (It's important to note that each unit has ONE assigned spot.) For example, today upon coming home from work, there was three of them in my spot, using it to.... give each other haircuts? And the carport reeked of weed. They "apologized" and then stood directly beside my car, watching me collect my things and get out. Again, super uncomfortable.
The children that live downstairs have hijacked the building's compost bin to use as ball storage in the patio. When I attempted to confront them about it, I did so through a letter, as I do not speak Spanish and they do not speak English. However they claimed to not know what I was talking about, and the bin "disappeared" from my view from the window..... until yesterday, when they left the gate open and I was able to see it hidden just under the awning.
Anyway. There's a lot more, but this post is getting really, really long.
TLDR: My neighbors are awful and I want out, but I'm scared to bring it up to the property manager.
I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to continue to bring this up to the property manager. I honestly feel bad doing so, as contacting him every single time something happens would just be me blowing his phone up. I've been taking pictures and documenting everything in a spreadsheet with dates, times, and notes, just so that I have written account of all their behavior, but I'm unsure of how to share this information.
My biggest concern is being a nuisance and being seen as a snitch or something. Even though I know it is his job to deal with this sort of stuff, I'm having a lot of anxiety around the entire situation, especially since the first year I lived here, I had to contact him VERY few times, and it was always related to something within my own unit (like the heater not working). So to come out swinging with all these complaints feels..... wrong? I'm not exactly sure.
Really, all I want is for them to move out lol. And if they won't leave, I would be more than happy to-- but breaking my lease would mean continuing to pay rent on it *and* a new place, and I can't afford that. I live in Silicon Valley and I'm a teacher, hahaha. But I also can't afford to continue to dread coming home, lose sleep, feel unsafe in my own apartment, etc etc. all because of some inconsiderate aholes.
If you made it this far.... thanks for reading, and an extra thanks to anyone who can offer some advice. I'm getting desperate here lol.

2023.06.06 03:40 ThatUwUkid92 I just had to post about it, i don't know why but I just had to. The last days of my grandpa's life.

Setting, Hospital Jan 7 2023. Me, my parents, my little sister and my grandpa.
We had went to see him that day at the hospital to cheer him up and not feel lonely. We had talked with him about stuff (I can't remember what). After about 30-40 minutes at the hospital we said get better and hugged him. This was the last time I would hug him ever. On the car ride home I thought about what it would be like if he died.
Setting, Sunday Jan 8 2023. My home, Me, my parents and my little sister.
I was at home watching youtube as I always do, not looking forward to school, thinking about summer break (Almost there!) And about my thought in the car.
Setting Monday Jan 9 2023 my house. Me my dad and my little sister, 8:18 am.
We where getting ready for school like always and my dad's phone rang st 8:24 am, I thought it was a scammer or postal service. But my dad said in a soft but then a loud voice: "wait what? [Listening] F**K! [Hangs up in tears]" goes to the bathroom. Me and my sister went ro our rooms when we heard him yell. In the washroom I heard him yell on the phone or just yell "My dad's dead" when I heard that it took me a minute to comprehend that and just teard up. About 9 am my mom got home and explained that to my little sister and I heard her crying. And then she came to me and explained, I told her I already knew.
9:38 am, in the car. Driving to my grandma's apartment. My dad in tears, my mom (driving) sad, and me and my little sister sad af. Once we got there my grandma was in tears just howling. We hugged her and made her feel a little better. We talked a bit on how she never talked to him about If this day had come at all. After we talked with her. We said goodbye, got In the car and went to the hospital.
10:24 the hospital, the same people.
We got to the room and then I saw him, pale and on his death bed. My dad said "no!" And sat down next to him. I sobbed but didn't want to show that i was. I wanted to make them think that I was built different, but my emotions got the best of me.
I am 11 posting this on reddit I know I'm not supposed to but I don't care.
How can I get though this to this day? Please help me.

2023.06.06 03:40 Trolliedollie My Mother is an extreme right wing conspiracy theorist, and it’s mentally destroying my relationship with my family.

During the peak of the 2016 election my family started to change. I always remember my family being conservative, and religious, but something about this election changed them entirely, but it was the worst with my mom. It started off with the “fake news” and the left is bad stuff that was being pushed all over the media, and transformed into celebrities drinking babies blood to stay young. At the time of the election I was 17 with thoughts and opinions of my own and was a very outspoken supporter of more Left leaning candidates, and that was worse than hailing the devil himself to my mom. Calling me a “fucking stupid kid” or a “left-tard” and just all around berating me for having differing opinions. At that point I was so used to being treated that way it didn’t phase me. The next year after the dust had settled from the election finally being over, and her side winning the craziness only got worse. I was able to side step most of the down slide she went through by being away for college, then moving far away, which was the plan for after college anyway because I was growing more afraid of the impact she was having on my mental health. In January of 2020 I was forced to move back home after a bad breakup, and then Covid hit. I was stuck living with my parents after 3 years of normal life, and was thrown back into a nightmare. By this time my mom was deep into the Qanon stuff and was spouting a lot of nonsense about whatever conspiracy she read that week. Even talking to her for more than a quick conversation turned into her screaming her conspiracies. By this point I was trying to talk to my dad and my siblings about my genuine concern for her and they all seemed to take her side in most of the conversations we had. They started to believe her conspiracies too and I was stuck in my family as the “lib-tard” who needs to “wake up”. At the peak of Covid I Joined the military to try and get away from the madness that was my family. Through all of the crazy I still loved them and can see all the good they still do for me but I couldn’t stand being with them. I felt like an outsider, and attacked every time I opened my mouth in my parents home. I had a year of the military and was honorably discharged due to injuries and being sexually assaulted, which caused a lot of other issues. But I had nowhere to go but back to the craziness I ran from and have been here since. My family had only gone down hill since I left, I think it was at this point they were on to flat earth theory, but I came home to a job my dad gave me which has helped me significantly financially. But I work everyday with my family so I am constantly with them and trying to maintain my mental health has been very difficult. The more time goes by the worse I get. I genuinely have no idea what to do. I know if I leave again I’d probably be disowned by my family, and would be broke. I am more financially stable here than I’ve ever been, but I’m mentally and emotionally exhausted trying to deal with the outbursts of right wing hate/conspiracies from my family. Any advice would help.

2023.06.06 03:40 ScandalNavian42 Housing a 16-year-old who’s been kicked out

My (41F) kiddo’s (15,NB) friend (16F I’ll call her V) has been kicked out of her house, and has asked to stay with us, to which I wholeheartedly agreed to (this poor girl has a very traumatic past, and emotionally abusive parents).

2023.06.06 03:39 AffectionateWear6713 Car randomly shuts off (with engine codes)

Hello, I bought a 2008 Mercedes E350 Automatic with 4matic from my grandfather's neighbor for $1,500.

2023.06.06 03:38 DragonflyWing Why can't people just think things through for a minute??

Ugh! I'm so frustrated with people who get an idea, and immediately run off half cocked when they have no clue what they're doing. Not even 5 minutes to research, ask advice from people with more info, nothing. I need to vent.
There are two people in my life that do this constantly. They need instant gratification and are never willing to listen when someone suggests just taking a minute to think things through. Normally, their decisions do not affect me, so I try not to stick my nose in unless they ask me for input. Twice this month, though, both of these people made rash decisions that directly affect me, and I am exasperated, to put it mildly.
First was my mom. Even though we live in different states, I'm on a family phone plan with her, and we had been on our current plan for about a year. We really liked it; it was an unlimited plan with great 5g coverage, and I could use mobile hotspot to do my online classes (our home wifi isn't great). I also really liked my phone, which had great battery life and all the features I needed.
Well, my mom decided she didn't like her phone, but instead of trying to upgrade it or get a different phone, she just switched mobile carriers completely out of the blue. I guess she was at Costco and saw a sign for AT&T offering a free phone when you purchase a data plan. She said she thought it was a "sign" (yes, is called advertising, mom), and immediately signed up. I got a phone call from her at 8am asking if I wanted a black phone or a purple phone. I tried to talk her out of it, but she was already dead set and basically wasn't even hearing me. Within 5 minutes of googling, I discovered AT&T doesn't have 5g coverage here, the plan didn't have unlimited data or mobile hotspot, and the free phone she got me has shorter battery life and is much smaller than I prefer. I was very upset, but I didn't get into it with her because she pays for the plan, and it was already done.
PLUS, in order to get the credit for the free phones, you had to send in your old phone to trade in within 30 days. So I couldn't even keep the phone I really liked. Plus, my sibling that is also on the family plan missed the cutoff, and had to pay $800 for the new phone. It was a mess.
That was a walk in the park compared to the second one, though. My children and I live with my sibling (who uses they/them pronouns) right now while I'm going through a divorce and going back to school. I'm eternally grateful to them for letting us stay here, so here's another situation where I don't feel like I can say anything without seeming ungrateful (hence, you bromos get to hear it ;)).
This weekend, my sibling decided that they were getting a new sink and vanity for the bathroom. Ok, cool. I should mention that they are not particularly handy, and had never done this before. So they pulled out the old sink, and found that the hot water valve underneath was stuck. Ok, so we shut off the hot water to the house until they could get the new sink in. However, they had forgotten you also need a faucet. So they ordered it, but it wasn't going to arrive for a few days. This was annoying, but I figured it was no big deal. We could wash our hands and brush our teeth at the kitchen sink 10 feet away for a couple days.
Uh oh. We couldn't turn the hot water back on because the valve under the bathroom sink was stuck, so now we also had no hot water at all until the new faucet came. I was getting frustrated at this point.
AND THEN, when pulling the sink out, my sibling noticed that there was tile underneath the laminate flooring, and decided to rip all the laminate out right then. There was a piece that they couldn't get to behind the toilet, so they decided to MOVE THE TOILET to get it out. The thing is though, they had no idea how a toilet is attached, and didn't think to look it up, or ask me. They didn't empty the water out of it, although thank goodness they shut off the water valve at the base. So, they broke the wax ring and snapped the PVC on the closet flange.
So now we had no sink, no hot water, and no toilet.
I suggested we call a plumber, but they said they could handle it, called in sick to work, and proceeded to make about 10 trips to the hardware store (because they kept getting the wrong things even though I said I would send pictures and measurements or whatever they needed), as I was shuttling kids to Walmart to use the bathroom. Eventually, they were crying with frustration in my arms and finally agreed to call a plumber.
The plumber came, and $500 later, we have hot water and a working toilet. Still no bathroom sink, though.
Like...I get wanting to make your ideas a reality as soon as possible, but can't we just Google for 5 minutes? Or ask the people we might be affecting? Please?
Ooof, if anyone made it this far, thanks for letting me vent. Time for some mindless TV to unwind.

2023.06.06 03:37 DontStayUpLeight My recruiter is an absolute buffoon (Air Guard)

So, I swore in on May 15th. She gave me my RSD dates and my paperwork I needed. (Or so I thought) Afterwards, I got home went on to life as usual. Working my full time job and started talking to this State Trooper about applying after I get out of both trainings. A few weeks past I texted my recruiter a few times and no responses, or updates at all. Last Wednesday I get a text about that weekends drill, I was at work and had no idea I was attending this months drill as my recruiter told me nothing. So, of course I was scheduled the whole weekend. Luckily I am an Assistant Manager at my job and was able to talk to my GM and move some shifts around last second. So, now I know I am heading down there and I have no visitors pass and I don't wanna waste time on Saturday so I head down early on Friday. (1hr 45m drive) They close at 3 so I rush in have no idea what I am doing, I get to the desk explain the situation. She told me I need to get my recruiter, I run in there and surprised my recruiter who got some paperwork which she didn't even know what she had to get and asked another recruiter. Anyways, trying to not get this too long. I get my pass and the next morning go to drill and then I find out I needed two forms of original government documents and get a CAC which made everything a pain in the ass, and I didn't even do actual in-processing ony first drill and just ran around doing the little I could do, next day I get there talk to 1st Sgt and get drug tested. ☠️ Then, I go to do finance and guess what I didn't have for my financial packet. My copy of SGLI, that my recruiter was supposed to give me...after that I went nextdoor to maybe get a copy and they said they couldn't without CAC. So I spent the rest of the day doing nothing but prematurely signing my training application that can't even get submitted until I get everything done. Got sent home early and let's just say I am not happy with my recruiter who just rushed me through and screwed me over with poor communication and not knowing what she's doing. 🫥🫥🫥

2023.06.06 03:36 Relentless-Dragonfly My nightmarish chin lipo journey thus far..

I finally got my chin lipo done last week after months and months or dreaming and researching. So far, my results look good and at the end of the day, that what's most important to me. But I wanted to share my experience since I wish I had read something like this before I went in. I don't think it would have deterred me from getting the procedure, but I do wish I had been more prepared. Maybe someone can learn from my mistakes.
I went to a very reputable surgeon in my area. Board certified in facial plastic surgery, stellar reviews on every possible platform. Really great before and after gallery for chin lipo specifically, it was obviously one of his most popular procedures. I thought I found the best in my area. The procedure ended up being on the pricier end of what to expect in my area, but I felt that it was worth it given his specialty and experience.
The problems started the day of my appointment. I arrive about 15 minutes early and they inform me that the surgeon is running late. Turns out he was running a whole hour late. I sat in a waiting room for almost an hour and a half. Of course during this time, I'm peeved, but I don't say anything. I don't want a rushed procedure so I'm not going to try and rush someone else's procedure. But my alarm bells really started ringing when I went to the bathroom while I was waiting and there is someone else's pee sample sitting in the sink, seemingly abandoned. That's gross. I try to shake it off and hope its just a fluke. However, full on panic ensues when I see the state of the surgery room. It's messy, disorganized, and not at all what I picture when I think of a sterile environment. It's messy but not visibly dirty, so I don't run screaming, though maybe I should have. It also doesn't help that my surgeon appears to be just as disorganized as the room. I'm internally freaking out at this point. The only thing keeping in that room is the fact that this man has a ton of documented experience, a board certification, and less than a handful of bad reviews. I've already paid and I don't even know if I'd be able to get a refund at this point. I know I'd for sure lose the deposit which was still more than I could afford to lose. So go I through with it.
The procedure itself was incredibly uncomfortable. It was local anesthesia so I was awake the whole time. The only pain was with the numbing shots and that was about a 5/10 but I'm also a baby. That was all to be expected based off my research and what he had told me pre-procedure but I was still surprised but just how uncomfortable the whole thing was. My biggest complaint about the procedure itself was that he had restrained my hands to the bed. He did not warn me ahead of time, which I do not appreciate at all. There was a female assistant in the room at all times and staff close by outside the room, so that somewhat helped my anxiety. At this point, I just wanted to be done and get out of there.
I wish I could say that was the end of the nightmare but sadly not. I was sent home with gauze wrapped around my head that added some compression, but this was to be taken off the next day. He had told me pre-procedure that he felt compression after 24 hours was unnecessary. Since just about every other surgeon on this planet recommends compression for a bare minimum of a week, I went ahead and bought a jaw bra on amazon anyway. So after taking the gauze off the next day, I pop on the compression garment and go to sleep. I wake up on post-op day 2 with the most horrendous looking rash on my neck. I'll post pictures in the comments if I can. But basically it's just absolutely nasty. Immediately I assume that I've got an infection so I call my surgeon. At this point, my surgeon has lost all of my trust so I also book an urgent care appointment. My surgeon essentially brushes off my concerns as normal and tells me to leave it alone, in a patronizing tone. The urgent care clinician said that it did not look like an infection or an allergic reaction and said that maybe the compression was to blame and to stop wearing the jaw bra. So I was left feeling absolutely hopeless and powerless with no compression options and the ugliest rash I've ever seen on my neck.
I decided that no compression was not a risk I'm willing to take and I started using some athletic tape as a form of compression. This allowed me to keep the rash area clear but still adding at least a little compression. I don't know if this method will actually work but the area feels compressed and it's at least better than nothing. So here I am, post-op day 5 with compression tape on my chin, a slightly better looking rash on my neck and all the god damn hope in the world that that was not all for nothing and I didn't just burn $5000. So far from what I can see, the results have been worth it. Which should clue you in on how desperate I was for this procedure. But holy hell this has not been easy. I've felt like I haven't taken a breath since the moment I walked into that office 5 days ago.
