2023.03.29 02:18 RaidCan My Flight Simulator Journey - A Tribute
Recently I've been thinking of what I consider meaningful - the people and places and things that have had a significant effect on me. And without a doubt, Flight Simulator lives high on that list. I've been thinking of what makes it so impactful and how my experience has changed over the years, and I wanted to share my journey with you all in the hopes that it sparks the same introspection and fond memories for you as it does for me.
It starts for me in the mid 90s. My parents are engineers and I'm six or seven years old in California and love airplanes. Much of my extended family is in South Asia and my uncle there is an engineer for an airline. On family vacations I get to experience the magic of going to work with my uncle for one or two days. I get to admire DC10s undergoing maintenance in the hangar, sit in the engine, walk on the wing, pretend to be captain in the flight deck. It's magnificent.
At some point in the late 90s I'm walking through a store with my mom or dad. I think it was a Staples. I see a computer game called "Big Jets." It looks absolutely awesome - there's a 747 Jumbo Jet on the cover. I beg for it, my parent acquiesces, and I bring it home. Incredibly exciting! We get home and put the CD in the family computer - one of those beige boxes with a CRT display. I can't remember exactly what popped up on the screen, but I can still vividly feel the disappointment: Big Jets wasn't a game, at least not on its own. It was a payware add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. It wouldn't run. To this day, I think about this and laugh about the fact that my first Flight Simulator purchase was payware. But I wasn't laughing then - I was pretty sad. We put the CD back in the box and put it in a closet. I eventually stopped thinking about it.
Some months later we're at another store and I see Flight Simulator 98 for sale. I manage to convince my parents to get it. I want to clarify that I didn't get many presents growing up - mainly on a birthday and maybe a major religious holiday, but they agreed and I brought it home ecstatic. My parents also liked to ration gifts, meaning I could install Flight Simulator 98 today but would have to wait some undisclosed period of time before getting to install Big Jets. Okay, that's fine. I get to play Microsoft Flight Simulator!
So began my journey with Flight Simulator. I was only seven or eight years old so I certainly wasn't very good at it. I didn't know what I was doing at all. My parents still joke today about how whenever I would play they'd come in a few minutes later and see the cracked windshield graphic on the screen, because naturally I had crashed. That's all I really did - take off, fly around for a bit, and eventually crash because I had no idea how to land. I didn't even know how to find other airports after taking off. But it was so fun. I remember discovering that you could open a second view on the screen (like Picture in Picture), and if you set it to the map mode, and zoomed out all the way, it would show the globe. So it was essentially like being on a transcontinental flight and seeing your position on the little inflight display. Useless for my aimless flying - but so cool! FS98 also came with a booklet of airport charts - I didn't know what to do with that but I would keep it open on my desk because it made me feel more like a pilot. Eventually I do install Big Jets. There's a 747 in Ansett Australia livery - that one was my favorite.
A few years go by. We move. We eventually get a DSL internet connection and I'm around 13 years old, actively browsing the early 2000s web while chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger. I don't play Flight Simulator as often but with this new access to internet search engines - I wonder - was there ever a new Flight Simulator?
I want to pause here. This might seem ludicrous. How do you not know what games are coming out? But I think it's important to recognize that I was a 10-something year old who had just recently gotten internet access, spent most of his time outdoors, and didn't go to any stores unless I was already with my parents - and they sure didn't go to gaming store. So it was pretty easy to be in the dark about this stuff.
Imagine my complete jaw dropping surprise when I see images of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 on the internet. The airplane models! The scenery!! Holy shit it is the most realistic thing I have seen in my life! How did I not know about this? Wait...there was a Flight Simulator 2000 and 2002 this whole time too? While I've been using 98? Quite the mix of emotions.
In any case, some time goes by and I get FS2004 for my birthday. I install it. It runs like absolute shit on my Dell computer with integrated graphics. But I make do. This is also around the time that I discover the world of freeware addons (Avsim) - and eventually - Project Open Sky (Posky), a developer forum I join and become an active member of for several years. Unlike a lot of the members, I still don't have a dedicated graphics card. I do, however, have Photoshop and a burgeoning interest in Graphic Design, so I take screenshots of my FS2004 flights and then photoshop the jagged edges with the blur and smooth tools to make them look better. It must have worked, because I eventually start running a screenshot competition on the forum.
Between 13 and 18 years old I really enjoy FS2004, and eventually FSX (this time, I knew it was coming, because of the internet and developers/forums like Posky). I also make a lot of friends. Back in the day they would say to be wary of people you met on the internet, but Posky feels like a tight group of people. The developers themselves are friendly, the community is fun. Eventually I dabble in making my own repaints (a Korean Air 747SP comes to mind), and support fellow simmers in their endeavors to build aircraft, airports, liveries, and so on. We on Skype about flight sim and life. And then I go off to college and my time for Flight Simulator all but disappears as I get busy with schoolwork and college life.
Unsurprisingly, I study engineering in college and graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While in school, I'm blessed to earn an internship with Boeing in Seattle, and upon graduating, I join the company full time. Over the next five years I have various opportunities at Boeing across engineering, manufacturing, and customer support - which was ultimately my favorite, as I serve as the point contact at Boeing for two leading airlines - one in Europe, and later one in Asia. During my travels to Asia, I eventually reach out to one of my old flight sim buddies from Posky who lives there and we hang out during my off hours. I can truly say Flight Simulator has made me friends around the world. I stay in touch with some of the others - one now works at Southwest, another moved on from Posky to QualityWings, another is a famous flight sim streamer.
I've since left Boeing and now work at a smaller company in the industry, and I've just recently gotten back into Flight Simulator with Microsoft's latest installment. I know this sub is no stranger to singing the software's graphical praises - but I'll say it over and over: the latest Microsoft Flight Simulator is the most visually stunning piece of software I have ever experienced. It's more than that though. It brings me back to being eight years old and flying aimlessly for hours because I don't know how to land. It reminds me of when I discovered the world of freeware add-ons and subsequently spent hours creating my own repaints (but getting others to take screenshots for Avsim because I didn't have a dedicated GPU). It reminds me of laughing with fellow flight sim teens on completely unrelated Skype calls.
Luckily I'm at a place now where I can afford to have dedicated graphics cards, and I don't have to wait months between getting a game and getting a payware add-on, and I know how to navigate to and do an instrument landing at the airport of my choice. And that certainly enhances the experience. But Flight Simulator has always been more than just a flight simulator for me. It's been the source of fun and joy and friendship, a career guidance counselor, an anxiety soother, and so many other things that have deeply enhanced my life.
Thanks for taking the time to read - I really appreciate it.

2023.03.29 02:18 somewherein72 Lore Week: The Collected Adventures of Fergis Failout
These are some things I wrote about one of my characters a while back.
Fergis Failout's Lucky Day at Big Bend Tunnel
I began a new character, Fergis Failout and got him to lvl 8 and I took him through Big Bend Tunnel to look for Santa Scorched. Well, it's going pretty well for the first half of the tunnel, some lvl 6 and lvl 14 scorched, but suddenly the bells, bells, bells, bells start ringing and here come 2 lvl 68 Santas, a Legendary Non-Santa lvl 68, and a couple of their lvl 68 ugly best friends - Fergis put up a good fight, but not a match, and he lost all of his junk in the tunnel. Fergis is a loser, but not one to give up, so he trekked right back down the tunnel to retrieve his bag of steel, lead, and other assorted sundries to get out the other side of the tunnel into the Cranberry Bog and certain death, but the group of lvl 68 scorched aren't happy about him tresspassing in their tunnel, so murdered again and another trek back to retrieve his sack of goodies. Rinse and repeat, until Fergis lies in wait just long enough for the hero of the Wasteland to show up, none other than Grahm, lord of the grill, master of trades, and his war drum slay the sleigh bell dangling legendaries, and every other scorched in the tunnel. Fergis is saved and has tons of loot to trade with Grahm, enough to relieve the overencumbrance, and acquire the plan for the Meathook -plus, a sweet lvl 5 Quad-Explosive Pump Action Shotgun, a few blood-soaked Christmas goodies, and a new love for our lord and savior, Grahm with his trusty sidekick, Chally.
Who is Fergis Failout: An Origin
Fergis Failout found himself and his family at fourteen living in Flatwoods, attending the high school and helping at the family business. In the days before the bombs fell, Fergis's family moved into Vault76. Fergis's father had a thriving atomic repair business, that he inherited from his father who emigrated from Ireland to the hills of Appalachia to set up shop in Pre-War America. As Fergis grew up, he worked alongside his father and learned the family trade inside Vault76. He learned to repair vault equipment, small home appliances, weaponry and other items. The years passed, and sadly Fergis's father and mother passed away in the months before Reclamation Day. Since then, Fergis has had little time to mourn their passage, instead he has tried to survive in the Savage Divide and repair some of the equipment he has been able to find laying about using the skills that his father and grandfather taught him.
Fergis Failout: The Mothman Portent of Doom
In this episode, we join Fergis putting the finishing touches on his renovated camp teetering atop a unique rock formation in the Savage Divide. Hungry for adventure, and not content to reside under a bridge near Morgantown.
Fergis packed up his C.A.M.P unit and headed out into the Savage Divide, he heard from a friend about unique rock formation near Autumn Acre Cabin and had to see for himself.
Finally on the scene after an arduous journey, young Fergis, only lvl 25 perched his camp atop the rock formation and set about to unpack all of the mounted animal heads, crafting benches, stuffed animals, and decaying body parts in jars.
As he worked along, he noted how nice and quiet his new surroundings were, "Wow, not getting attacked here. This is swell," Fergis thought to himself. Just as Fergis sat down his prized Mr. Pebbles plushie, he heard his small turret begin whispering outside and wandered out to see what was the ruckus.
Following the hail of bullets into the forest, there in the distance, he could see two red eyes, peering at him from the brush. He snuck toward the creature, but in a whoosh of black smoke, the Mothman disappeared into the ether. Fergis prepared for the Mothman to attack, but he was gone. Not to return.
But, it was not to be a quiet night, for the public address announced a Nuclear Attack had been launched; and in the distance, a mushroom cloud blossomed.
Then, without warning, from the sky a screaming and the patter of many feet, two scorched winged beasts descended upon the teetering camp and a horde of scorched men and women rained hell down upon Fergis and his camp.
Sadly, Fergis died in the melee - only to return to find his camp was beset upon anew by a new threat lvl 62 charred ghouls! Fergis, no match for the ghouls met his end yet again, taking a final breath as the walls of his camp crumbled under the assault from the creatures.
Yes Friends, the Mothman, he came with a warning of terrors to come, presaging death, destruction, and a nuclear holocaust!
Beware, when the Mothman fails to attack - it could mean that dark days are ahead!
Fergis Failout's Weighty Welch Adventure
Fergis wandered down to Welch after spending the day at Camden Park eating expired hot dogs, tossing dross, and lucky muckin'. He recently turned 50 and found himself in possession of a fine shiny suit of armor suitable for mining and fightin'.
As soon as he walked into Welch, a whole swarm of men in cloaks started shooting at him, completely unprovoked! Not to be deterred, Fergis started in to defend himself but found he was overwhelmed by the host of garbled grunting Mole Miners. He had to run away from Welch and get bandaged up, when he got back there, he found all the things he dropped and started in to stealthily eliminate the rude bastards that live in Welch. Directly, Fergis had cleaned out that whole town, liberated it of the rude cloaked men and made his way up to the little shop only to find that the shop was closed due to lack of funds. Not a cap to be had here, the Protectron vendor squawked.
"Well", Fergis thought, "this is an awful lot of salvage to just turn into scrap, I think I'll head up the tracks and find my way toward Lewisburg." The Protectron, stared at him with it's one eye and said, "May I be of assistance?"
Fergis just turned and walked out.
So, he started out of town, only to find there was a terrible-looking beast fighting some ugly green-skinned giants, "Holy moses!" He said to himself, but he was too late to avoid being spotted. Fergis shuffled through all of his junk and managed to get a weapon out of the mess and returned fire on them mutants and that giant goat, the thing damn near put out his eye with a flurry of spikes off it's back. Lucky thing Fergis was wearing welding goggles, otherwise he would've needed an eyepatch.
Finally, the mutants killed that 'Squatch, and Fergis was able to put them down one by one. Some of them, up close and personal-like with a claw he made out of mole rat teeth!
After the smoke cleared, Fergis made his way over to the killing ground and found even more salvage on the bodies, that huge goat thing had a weird weapon on it, said 'Cryolator' on the side and it appeared that it holds four times the normal amount of ammuntion. "I bet this will at least freeze an arm or a leg off, too!"
Well, Fergis turned to look back at Welch dreading the road ahead, realizing they were broke and had no caps for all his salvage, he turned back toward Lewisburg and headed on down the tracks tugging a sack of guns, scrap parts, and missile launchers behind him.
Fergis Failout : The Ghoul Puncher
It was a dreary day in Appalachia, and Fergis was free of Welch and done with breathing the dust of the Ash Heap. He finally made it back to his home in the Savage Divide after weeks of hard-worn foot travel. He was ready for some good sleep under his Mothman blanket in his own bed for a change, sleeping under bridges and old tents was a hard life for a scavenger and he was dreaming of that bed for days on end and the fresh air of the Divide.
After he returned home and checked the messages on his terminal, he found a cryptic call for help, one of the new Responders found themselves in a mess with a ghoul infestation and they were calling for anyone to come and help out.
Now, Fergis had come up against ghouls before, nasty sort of creatures, and he weren't fond of them at all. But, it was a fella he knew from the Vault and he thought he ought to go help as he could. So, after a short rest, he found his way down to the station in Berkley to get outfitted to face some nasty ghouls. Most of his guns were broken, he was practically out of ammo, and all he had was an old Miner's gauntlet with one broken claw.
He had a handful of scrip left over from Lewisburg and after he talked to the shopkeeper there in Berkley, and said where he was goin', the shopkeeper, real unpleasant sort, shoved an odd-looking glove through the window to him. He wasn't sure, but to him, it sounded like she said this was what he needed, he looked down at it and read the label on the side, 'Ghoul Puncher'. It were some kind of powered glove. Now, Fergis was already none too happy about getting close to any ghouls, but he figured this would do as good as anything. He got the rest of his gear on for travellin' and headed down toward the deepest part of the Mire, some old Church where his friend was. Well, he put that glove on, and immediately he felt better about what he was about to face. That glove had a hell of a kick to it, and he could see that it would put a hurt on a ghoul and you wouldn't have to get too close to them after all.
After a few days of plodding through the muddy mire of the swamp, Fergis found the church and could hear his buddy shouting from the window, it wasn't long after that when he saw the ghouls milling around the yard of the church, and not long after that they caught the stink of Fergis. Them ghouls started toward Fergis, and he raised that glove at them, POW, caught the first one right in the face, plumb dented it's face to pulp and it went down, another right behind it, smacked down to the ground, and they kept coming at him. He kept on dropping them with that glove, one after another, there must have been about 20 of them fall under that glove.
After all them ghouls were down, Fergis looked down at that 'Ghoul Puncher' and wondered what else it could do. "Could it take down one of them big flyin' bats?" he thought to himself.
Directly, he heard his friend coming down from the steeple of the church, "So glad to see you, I thought I was done for. I've been up there for days, and I was starting to wonder if anyone was going to help me. What's that on your arm?"
"Well, it says it's a ghoul puncher, and I believe it is."
Fergis followed his friend home, punched a few more ghouls along the way, and felt good for lending a hand, and didn't mind the jingle of a few more caps in his pockets.
Fergis & The Stubborn Camper
After Fergis left his friend, no safe from ghouls in his little bungalow in the cranberry Bog, he thought he might take a look around the Bog and get an idea of what might be there.
"Awful nice place," he thought, "But seems awful dangerous."
While Fergis was roaming around the Bog he had a message on his Pip-Boy from a gal he knew from the Vault, Yasmeen McGillicuddy. "She was a sweetie, and awful pleasant to look at, too."
Turned out Yasmeen's camp had been facing constant attacks from them flyin' scorchbats and she needed to find a new place to set up shop. Fergis had roamed far and wide, and he had a few suggestions for good places. But he was a long way away from the Forest and all of the safe places he might suggest for her to take a look at, but Fergis replied to her call and directly she came to greet him near the old Appalachian Antique store.
"Well, Fergis! Look at you. You look rough and smell rougher - what in the world are you doing in the Cranberry Bog!?"
"You know, Yasmeen - just roaming around, doin' some scavengin' and trying to stay in one piece."
Fergis and Yasmeen took to the road and headed toward the mountains. There were some nice safe areas way up in the hills and Fergis thought he could help her set up a nice place there. Well, over the next few hours, morning wore into the afternoon and they ventured over toward Kerwin Mine and right there they found a place that Yasmeen was just wild over.
"This place looks a lot like where I'm stayin' near now, Yas."
"It's gorgeous! I love the archway, so unique! I've got to move here."
"Well, don't you want to stake it out, find out if it's safe or not? You're gettin' beat down with scorchbeast already. We'll just pitch a little camp here and stay the night."
It's a hard tale to tell when tough-headed people get it in mind to do somethin' stubborn, and Yasmeen was stubborn as they get. She wouldn't have reason or logic, and she just wanted to move there to that archway. She put a call in through her Pip-boy, and before you knew it there was the C.A.M.P unit flickering to life right there on the edge of a cliff under that archway.
"I sure hope this works out for you, Yasmeen. You call me if you get into some trouble. It sure was nice to see you again, been a while since the vault."
"You take care out there Fergis, if you want to stick around a bit, I'll get mutfruit juice and corn soup cooking up!"
Fergis would've stayed, but he felt like getting back toward his own place back in the Divide. There was plenty he needed to see to back at his own house and setting up the conduits on another house wasn't worth a bowl of corn soup.
"I'll keep an ear out for you, Yas...if you need me give me a shout girl."
Fergis looked back over toward the where the Monorail used to be, "sure would be nice to hop on the rail, this walking is for the birds" he thought to himself. Over the week through the Mire and the last few days in the Bog, he had quite a bit of salvage, too much for easy transfer; so dragging it back or abandonin' it was his only choice.
Fergis made it up to a decayed satellite dish, seemed deserted, aside from a few old robots that were easy to hide from, they were slow and had just one eye, so not a threat at all. He was just about to unpack his sleeping bag when his pip-boy started to chatter.
It was Yasmeen.
"Fergis! Help me, there's Super-Mutants, Robots, Ghouls and Scorched people all around this place! Come help get me out of here!"
Fergis rolled his napsack back up, not even getting a wink of rest, strapped it all together again, tugged his bag full of junk parts, and pulled out that ghoul puncher and an old black powder rifle he found in the Mire and started back toward Yasmeen's camp.
Not even a full day and her camp were already under attack from every manner of unnatural deviance Appalachia had spit up since the world ended.
"I just got my house set up, and these mutants showed up - they smashed my tatos! They ripped my corn right out of the ground!" her voice squawked over the tiny pip-boy speaker. "I had one turret set up and an old rifle, I got them chased away, but it wasn't 20 minutes later that the scorched people showed up and start shooting at me and throwing mutfruits at my house. I'd rather have the scorchbeasts!"
Fergis listened to the static-squawking of the speaker and his frantic friend, he pressed the talk button, "I'm 'bout 10-12 hours away, I'll be there as soon as I can."
Fergis grabbed his pack, tugged it over his shoulder and put and turned around, "You can't tell stubborn people anything," he grunted to himself as he headed back through the woods toward Kerwin Mine again.

2023.03.29 02:16 glo-del Suddenly finding roaches a week after neighbors moved in…is it them? Coincidence? Something else entirely?
Earlier this week officially marked one month in our new apartment. The building seems to be decently maintained. They have an online system for submitting rent and maintenance requests. The maintenance contractor is here in the building often and I’ve seen him multiple times. The units in the building were recently renovated a few years ago, but as expected, there’s signs of wear and tear.
Despite this, as mentioned, the property seems to be managed well. Maintenance requests are usually addressed and taken care of with a couple of days. The property management phone line has always been responsive. Monthly pest control is even included in the cost of our rent and we’re due for our monthly treatment this week.
The first 3 weeks in our apartment, we didn’t find a single roach. I would see a few gnats flying around the first few days but that went away. With the past week we’ve had TWO new neighbors move in. One directly across the hall, and one directly above us. Within the past week, we went from finding no roaches, to 4 within a few days. The first 3 were dead, and the 4th one we found today was very much alive.
I assumed the sudden surge in roaches was because of the new tenants if they aren’t clean, but my partner is convinced it’s a simple coincidence and believes that it would take weeks for roaches to suddenly accumulate regardless of how unclean our neighboring tenants might be. “We live in Florida” he says with a shrug. Which I agree; but realistically, what can I do to minimize the number of roaches we find in our apartment? I’m terrified of them and even after 3 years in FL, run away in horror and often tip toe scarily outside of our bedroom when the lights are off? I want to feel comfortable in our new home. Help??

2023.03.29 02:15 Blackadder288 [IWantOut] 30M USA -> UK
I am a dual UK/USA citizen with a F USA citizen partner, I have never lived in the UK but have significant family there.
This isn’t a short term goal, because my partner and I are aware we will need to be married for some degree of time before she would be eligible for a spouse visa. I’m hoping this is something that could be possible in ~5 years. We are committed to each other and intend to stay together permanently.
However I’m unsure if I would need to move there first and establish residency beyond my citizenship.
We make similar incomes however I’m university educated and she is not, however she has a lot of career experience and less debt than I do.
Would I invariably need to move there first and establish myself as a resident before the home office would even consider her? If we could both show significant savings would that help the process? That’s my biggest question right now that I can’t find a clear answer to.

2023.03.29 02:14 Open_Objective_9371 The Big Bang Theory Question
So a bunch of them got certified so they could officiate Howard and Bernadettes wedding in season 5. When Leonard and Penny decide to actually get married in season 9 they don't know where to go and decide on Vegas because it's not too far. There friends watch it online but also complain they weren't there, and so does Leonard's mother Beverly, to which Penny always responds "It was a spur of the moment thing!" They redo the ceremony and some vows so everyone can be there, including Beverly, and have Bernadette be the one to officiate. My question is why didn't they have the wedding at home with their friends in the first place since pretty much any of them could do it. Is it just bad writing? Or am I wrong? Idk just thoughts when I've watched this a few times lol.

- A typical Tucson home will need a 6Kw system costing about $16,000 but you will get a tax credit of 30% or $4,800. Your final cost is $11,200
- The average monthly bill for electricity is $136 including a fixed charge of about $15. If the solar array provides the electricity you need, your electric bill will go down by $121
- A home equity loan at 7% for ten years will have a payment of $130. If you applied the $121 per month saving on your electric bill to your home equity loan, you would be paying $9 per month more than you now are.
- At the end of ten years, you would have paid off your home equity loan. Your solar panels will continue to provide electricity for 15 more years
- The first ten years cost $9 per month over the average TEP bill so $9x120 months equals $1,080. The next fifteen years the avoided cost for electricity is $121 times 12 months for 15 years or $21,780
- Your investment in solar panels saved you $20,700 ($21,780-$1080)
That's a great return and you're helping to reduce the impact of climate change.

2023.03.29 02:14 23yo1di0t 22 (M) married 3 years w/ 22 (F)
Obviously the first thought I’d assume everyone would have is that we got married too young. Our relationship hasn’t really been peaceful for too much of the 3 years and even when we were dating prior. I was in a situation where we were each others firsts while dating so I thought it was my obligation to make it work. I think our marriage really started to fall apart with having our kid with resentment on my end because I feel as I was handed the option within 5-6 months of marriage that we’d only be intimate if it was to get pregnant which has been ongoing since our son except I haven’t caved this time. (Intimate 3-4 times a year without that stipulation)
Since having a child work is no longer an option and she’s just told me that she is staying home indefinitely (been home around 2 years currently). This is a big issue for me as I’m very career driven and want a financially stable life. I have asked and almost begged for her to go back to work, but her reasoning is that she does not trust daycares. With that I’ve suggested in-home and that’s even worse in her eyes. It’s gotten to the point where I cannot bring it up without it being an argument as she’s firm in her stance.
She used to regularly hit me or grab me digging her nails into me leaving marks when we’d argue stating I’d make her snap; but has since gotten relatively better to where it probably only happens 4-5 times a year as of this past year. I think as she’s made improvement on this so maybe eventually it stops all together. However I do think this has dramatically effected me being affectionate towards her which in turn has made her resent me. When I say affectionate her love language is acts of kindness and I’ve fallen off pretty hard in that category basically after the first year in our marriage.
I have suggested marriage counseling numerous times over the past two years but she refusing stating that she doesn’t want someone to know all of our business essentially. I’m unsure if it’d even be effective as I’d have to skip around the parts of her hitting me as that’d make her quit immediately as she’s embarrassed about it.
Where I’m having problems: I have a son and she stated in an argument last month where I asked for a divorce that she’d take full custody and move back to her family. I feel like I’m destroying her life and my sons life if I leave but I really feel like we aren’t setting up a good environment for our son whatsoever. I just don’t know if him growing up with separated parents is better than growing up with parents that are roommates. I really do believe we’re both only in the marriage at this point to provide stability for our son and we’re hoping it eventually just fixes itself. I really do not want to set her up for failure in a divorce and will be trying to financially support her in the process as much as possible as she’d probably receive primary care of our son. She is on the title of our home (I’m alone on the loan) (100k equity) and I believe would elect to just give it to me, but I’d prefer to probably just scrub everything so there’s nothing other than our son binding us.
I guess my question is have I exhausted all my options in making this work? If divorce is the final choice how do I actually ensure I don’t get talked out of it (shes suggested it regularly for awhile but I think she’s realized the seriousness when I finally suggested it this past month).
Note: Throw away account as she does go through my phone (just to see what I’m doing I guess? Never cheated or showed any signs) will check tomorrow and response if needed.
Thanks.

2023.03.29 02:12 Vathy 34 [M4F] #NYC - Still seeking a connection with someone who wants the same, conversation that slow burns is my jam
I'll keep it short to start, but if you want a long version, feel free to read past this:
Short version: I'm a tall 34M living in NYC seeking a sub who wants a natural d/s dynamic IRL (preferably in NYC) who also wants a long term relationship. If you're passionate about exploring a dynamic with someone who knows exactly how he wants it to look like that is open to mixing it perfectly together with yours, I'm your guy.
Now for the long version...
- I'm a 34M, 6'1/245 (don't look it at all), hispanic man, who is fairly active (you'll catch me on a basketball court constantly) that has never smoked or drank alcohol (and I'd prefer to not start) that is clean and happy to verify. I may be hispanic by blood, but my spanish is the one that has the accent. Blame the NYC blood.
- I consider myself a soft dom (with a very strong and kinky side). I consider myself quite aware of my surroundings all the time, compassionate, supportive, flexible, and ambitious. I have worked crazy hard to be the mentally aware man that I am who will listen the heck out of you and your needs. I love to teach my sub about the world and everything in it (whether its working on schoolwork together, coloring, video games, your taxes, you name it) as I thrive in responsibility and embrace the lead role in a relationship like my own life depends on it. If you trust me with your well being, I've been around long enough to know that I sure as hell ain't taking it for granted. I do however have quite the kink side, but as I do not enjoy exploring nsfw banter without establishing a mental connection first, I will leave this part at you don't have to worry, we'll click as long as you're looking for a d/s dynamic.
- I enjoy nerdier things, such as board/video games, exercising (again, basketball) often (at the gym too), reading about the world, ASMR (I love giving massages, my love language is physical touch after all), traveling (been to 20 states, worked in 2), and in terms of my views, I lean very much left. I'm bilingual spanish, and I love to have conversation (both ways) for days. I work as an engineer from home with a ton of time in my hands and if you're clingy, I'm your guy. I got a ton of time in the world and you'll never go less than a day without a response.
Now, to tell you what I'm looking for!
I want a long term relationship with someone who enjoys the thought of a TPE dynamic (though I'm quite open on finding a perfect medium for us both) IRL (which means yes, living in NYC is ideal for me). I want someone who
is open to a family long term down the road should we get that far, so yes, I want children. I want someone who is into all the kinks (ddlg, cgl, humiliation, degradation). I may be a soft dom, but boy do I have kinks.
But mostly importantly? I want someone who is
available. These dynamics take
time to grow into. If you can't be there to chat, please look elsewhere, honestly.
Other than a desire for a mutual attraction, I have a sole preference of having you be younger than me, if only because I've spent most of my relationships as the younger one, and I'd love to experience my age gap kink for once the way I prefer to enjoy it.
If this resonates with you, I'd love to have you reach out and see if we can click! I'd love to know what brought you to my post and what about it appeals to you. I implore you to take a look at the picture in my profile, and share one of yourself to me, as I'd like to make sure we're both happy with what we see first and foremost.
Hoping we can chat soon!

2023.03.29 02:12 anultimatumv2 I'm just lonely
It's almost getting to that time of year again for me where I become another year older and it's just starting to wear down on me. I apologize now in advance as this may just be a ramble, but I need to just put something down as I don't have anyone else I want to talk to about this. I'm just tired of the way I am, I want to meet someone and enjoy their company, but I won't take the first step to just go and do it. Go get a hobby, go out in public, say hi to a stranger, just do something to get something started, but I won't. Instead I work, go to the gym, go home and eat and mindlessly browse the internet for a couple hours before I just tell myself I can go to sleep and start the whole process over.
I have never been good socially and used to have extreme social anxiety and still do, but not as bad. I talk to people at work fine, I put on a smile, laugh, joke around, but when I come home I just feel empty. I just want someone to be here that I can talk to. Someone I can tell all the fun things to, the things that annoy me, the weird things that happen at work. Really just anything and everything. Right now I still talk to my parents almost daily just to have a just a small sense of that feeling, but they have their own lives and spouses to be with so the calls don't last long and plus they are getting older and won't be around forever which also terrifies me to think about.
I have convinced myself for the longest time that I have been very lucky and fortunate in life in turn for having such a poor social life. I have told myself, I have made it this far because I am not good at socializing with others and I'm ok with that! The truth is, I'm not ok with that. Yes I have a good job, a house, a car, no kids. All the financial freedom in the world. But at the end of the day I come home to my empty house which has minimal decorations, nothing in the fridge except some water and yogurt. It's a shell and I find myself sometimes just sitting there staring off into nothing, sometimes daydreaming of what I could have. I don't watch TV, I never really get into movies and I used to play video games, but just don't enjoy them like I used to. So I find myself going on the internet and opening the same set of webpages over and over and over again almost like I'm hoping to see something new on the screen, but there never is.
My mom, just like probably most of your moms, constantly asks if I am dating anyone yet and man I just wish one day I can say yes. But for now it's a no and will probably stay a no. She keeps saying the same thing though, don't worry, you'll find someone. The truth is I won't, I put almost zero effort into it out side of online dating. I have been on multiple online dating sites for almost 9 years now. 9 whole years, it makes me cringe just thinking about it, and I have had single relationship that lasted 3 months. It's demoralizing and at this point I should just delete them, but there is still a part of me that wants to believe that there is still a chance. Even after 9 years I still want to believe that it can work for me.
Anyways, I have rambled on for too long, I usually feel down around this time of year because it's been another year of what I feel like is nothing and I just wanted to write something down and get my feelings off my chest. I'll probably be back to my normal self in the next week or so.

You’ve stumbled across this page for a reason.
It’s not because you’ve heard of this crazy new business model called ‘SMMA’ and it’s not because you’re struggling to sign your first client.
It’s because you’re exasperated. You’re frustrated. And you know you can do better.
You’re stuck in a pair of “golden handcuffs”: running a mildly-successful agency but beholden to your clients, your staff, and your phone.
You’ve broken the one inviolable rule of running an agency and not kept a full pipeline.
You know that you can reach the upper echelon of agency owners making six-and-seven figures, whilst working less than six-and-seven hours a week.
You just don’t know how…
My name’s Iman Gadzhi and since 2017, I’ve run IAG Media. In this time, I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, enjoyed six-figure months and made my clients millions.
I’ve also lost multiple clients in a row, been over-worked and chained to the agency that I started to give me freedom.
All the while, I’ve refined, tweaked and optimized my agency whilst also creating GrowYourAgency.com – the world’s largest education company for agency owners.
But in early 2020, I realised there was a problem. For every beginner agency owner desperate to sign their first client, there were three experienced agency owners desperate for guidance, systems and processes, and a solution to their broken agency model.
It’s why I created Copy Paste Agency…
…not so I can show you how to sign a client or perform basic outreach.
So you could take, copy and paste the exact methods I use in my own agency into your agency.
Copy Paste Agency students learn:
How I continue to run a multiple-six-figure agency from home with a skeleton staff and minimal expenses.
How to command higher retainers… and retain those clients for longer.
How to automate, delegate, and optimize every area of your agency from lead generation and sales to service delivery and client communication.
Plus get access to the latest tools and software used by my own agency, IAG Media such as reporting templates.

2023.03.29 02:12 KingBananaBird2 When try to drink a whole bottle of hot sauce in a job interview, but fail. (So funny) (Repost)
This is SO funny, I am reposting it and will repost it every once in a while.
From:
https://www.reddit.com/tifu/comments/2vdwtw/tifu_by_drinking_an_entire_bottle_of_louisiana/ I have had a number of job interviews recently that went poorly and did not result in securing employment.
I started to think I needed to do something during an interview to really stand out, be impressive, unique, and highly memorable. I thought it could be risky, but might work out.
I came up with the following idea: After concluding the interview, after the hand shakes, etc, when leaving the room stop, turn around, and say "There's one more thing you need to know about me."
Then pull out a bottle of hot sauce, down the entire bottle, slam it onto the ground and say "I can handle the heat." Nod confidently, leave the room.
Boom.
I imagined that they would be really impressed and wowed by such a performance.
Well it didn't pan out like I thought it would. It was only a small bottle of hot sauce, I figured it would be no big deal to actually do. I should have tested at home first, but I didn't.
I was nervous as a bitch-ass during the interview, but I was determined to follow through with the plan.
So I started exactly as described above. I was leaving, I turned around, maybe not with as much swagger as I'd imagined in my head, and I declared "There's one more thing you need to know about me."
I pulled out the hot sauce bottle, almost dropped it, and started to open the bottle. In my head it was all one quick confident motion, like an electric Indiana Jones, but instead I fumbled around and had a tough time getting it open. It felt like a nightmarish eternity but was probably only about 20 seconds. Enough time for one of the interviewers to ask me what I was doing.
I didn't answer directly. Instead, after I got the bottle open, I repeated "There's one more thing you need to know about me." (But stuttering.)
Then I guzzled down the entire bottle of hot sauce. I instantly regretted it. My mouth and throat felt like lava was swirling around inside me. I immediately started to gag and loudly cough, I was crying involuntarily. Tears hardcore streaming down my face. I was sweating like a terrible fool.
I desperately tried to scream "I can handle the heat" but just kept coughing before I could get anything out.
The interviewers were all standing up looking at me in horror and confusion.
A few seconds before I threw up all over the floor I knew it would happen, but I tried to hold it back. I couldn't.
I threw up all over the floor. It hurt as much on the way out as it did on the way in, if not more so. The vomit felt like flaming barbed wire shredding its way through my neck.
I should mention a disturbing amount of fiery mucus was also leaking out of my nose uncontrollably.
After I finished throwing up I could not bear to look at the interviewers. I hoarsely mumbled an apology and started to stumble as quickly as possible out the door.
I have never been more shamed in my life.
I didn't get the job.

2023.03.29 02:11 Bmv147 Advice on buying a new car at this market and time.
Currently a Junior(21) in college with the need of having a reliable car for the now and the future. My past car (2018 Civic) got totaled last November which paid out 23k from insurance. We bought the car for 18k brand new at the time which was passed down to me once I graduated high school (still had to pay 10 grand for it though). I understand buying a new car at my age isn’t the most normal or wise thing to, but after careful research and consideration used cars are still shockingly expensive for the mileage I’m looking for. I was looking at 2023 Honda civics but those start at 26k just for the base trim. Would this be a financially smart decision? Although I do have the extra cash on hand which I planned for situations like these. I would also not be financing at all due to high interest rates so this would be a all cash transaction.
I understand that after college I should have jobs lined up with the potential of having good income. As for rent, I live at home with my parents so this saved me a lot $$$ only downside is the daily 40 minute plus commute. Also my emergency fund that I saved from when I was 18 would not be touched at all from buying this car, which equals out to at least 50% of my income when working at my last restaurant jobs in the past years. I really don’t spend any money fortunately. Throughout my whole life I have always been frugal with my finances until this problem occurred with my car being totaled. I have worked my ass off to be financially comfortable especially in college at 21, with also having no student loan debt when I finish partly due to going to the first two years of community college. By all means I’m not rich but I’m doing a lot better financially than my fellow friends. Any advice or perspective would greatly be appreciated.
At the moment I am driving an old 14 year old Hyundai, the only problem is the transmission is on its last leg with really bad shifting problems. Not the safest but I would love to keep this till I graduate until getting a full time job but it’s really a gamble of how long this car would last, with the risk of being stranded in my mostly highway commute to school.

2023.03.29 02:11 glo-del Suddenly finding roaches a month into our new apartment. New neighbors moved in a week ago…is it them?
Help??

2023.03.29 02:09 glo-del Randomly finding roaches one month into our new place?? Help!!
Help??

2023.03.29 02:08 Pure_Firefighter6581 trying to decide wether to learn or outsource a developer.
I want to make a market place phone app similar to etsy but for farmers and direct buyers. Is this the type of thing that takes for ever as some people here are saying certain app types will or is this something i can pickup and complete within 1 - 1.5 months time with no coding experience and a lot of free time. Are there people out there doing this type of thing on first try or would you have to be some kind of super genius?

2023.03.29 02:08 lilsaddam Heat Cooler on One Side, Dealer Says...
Took my 2020 Explorer into the shop for some routine maintenance and also to see why the heat on one side of the car isn't working properly.
Report from dealer states that the passenger side temp door actuator needs replacement. Okay sounds right.
When all is said and done I am $800 into it, but whatever.
Go out the next morning and the heat on the passenger side is still cold.
Check the service report, it says that the tech checked that the heat was working properly the day before with a thermometer and a pin point test, whatever that is. Call dealer back and take the car in.
They now say it is the heater core and that it just went bad and they didn't see it the day before because it happened on the way home and that they replaced everything correctly the first time.
Long story short, now wanting $1300 to fix it and still say that the service the recommended and did was proper and legit.
Does this sound correct to you? Or am I being fleeced?

2023.03.29 02:08 AJ_FISHER Intermittent Hypoxic Breathing, Fact or Fancy?
Why in the world does someone who deprives themselves of oxygen enhance their physical and mental capacity? One would think that hypoxia is always going to lead to a place of ill health, such as in sleep apnea and traumatic incidents such as stroke and heart-attack. Yes, depriving oneself of oxygen SEVERELY is not good, but climbing a mountain where the oxygen molecules are more spaced out, which results in lowered blood oxygen of between 75-89%, the scientific community has observed wildly beneficial health effects…just do NOT climb Mount Everest without adapting yourself as this would lead to acute mountain sickness.
It’s all about dosing. If you were to run sprints for 8 hours each night instead of sleeping, you would end up ill and injured. The same is true with oxygen dosing.
If you lower your blood oxygen to 75-90% for between 5 and 60 minutes 3-4x a week, the literature shows positive results in both mental and physical capacity, but go down to 50% blood oxygen, and you could move into maladaptation and the danger zone. Russian researchers have been studying the positive effects of hypoxic training for more than 7 decades with conclusive positive results in the areas of cognition, cardiovascular health, body composition, and metabolism. If it’s so great, why don’t more of us do it? The answer is: it is expensive both in time and money to go to a chamber or climb a mountain. I am lucky enough to work with several clients who have put chambers in their homes, which has served as a wonderful method of studying older individuals exposed to hypoxia! But, for most of us, that is not feasible…So how can we accomplish this? Intermittent Hypoxic Breathing is a method that has become popularized by the WimHof method.
This method has been shown to improve the body’s immune response amongst many other benefits. Can the amount of time spent in hypoxia mimic that of altitude training? The duration of hypoxia with breath-work is not the same and there is another key difference: with our breath, we have the ability to increase our carbon dioxide levels as we decrease oxygen, which has unique benefits vs. the traditionally low carbon dioxide that exists when at altitude. This low carbon dioxide is due to hyperventilation (over-breathing) to get oxygen in when the air pressure decreases, the air molecules that spread apart force us to have to breathe harder to get the oxygen in. This creates a state of alkalosis (raised pH) in our body. This is NOT conducive to maximizing your muscle metabolism while working out. WimHof method also uses hyperventilation and breath-holds to lower blood oxygen quite a bit, but I have found anecdotally that sometimes the oxygen goes too low because of the low carbon dioxide not being used as a catalyst to breathe sooner.
The methodology that I prefer is to hypoventilation (made popular by Buteyko and researcher Xavier Woorons) in combination with breath retentions, so that the carbon dioxide rises in the body, and the breath-hold is limited because of the intense signal from carbon dioxide rising in the body. This allows us to more effectively go into a state of hypoxia with carbon dioxide levels high enough to increase blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Carbon dioxide is a vasodilator and higher levels will increase blood flow to many parts of the body during exercise vs. decrease it, potentially causing dysfunctional muscles during exercise! A current hypothesis is: using slowed breathing frequency during exercise has the ability to increase blood flow to vital organs and working muscles. The technique I use is a physiological sigh in conjunction with exercises…followed by a variety of lengths of SHORT retentions based on your level. From my informal and FORMAL research (through NYIT and American Public University), I have been able to show that the blood oxygen is perfected with this breathing technique at 80-90% blood oxygen for the majority of the workout! I rarely witness a person going TOO low as in the WImHof method, which begs the question: can we achieve altitude training results from breath-work? More research is needed in this area, but Cyclic Apneas have been shown in formal research to increase HIF-1 in the body, which is the catalyst to incite the growth factor necessary for both mental and physical enhancement from this style of training. Is it fact or fancy?
From my anecdotal experience, it is fact…the scientific world would say it is still fancy UNTIL more conclusions are drawn…this is why I am on a mission to be part of the first research team to devote 100% of our energies to elucidating more answers. We will be publishing and going to conferences next year, so sit tight for more details!

2023.03.29 02:07 Beanersapiens AITA for hugging my gf’s dog before her?
I (24m) went to visit my gf (23f) of 5 years after work. I work full time and she’s a student part time. Once I got out I bought some groceries that she needed and ordered a pizza to pick up on the way there because she mentioned she had no leftovers and it would be helpful if I got us something to eat. We haven’t seen each other much lately because of some family issues on her side, and because of me studying for the LSAT, so I wanted to make some time for her today.
Once I got there she told me to call her dog, which I did, and he started running toward me and going crazy like dogs do. My gf tells me not to hug her dog until I’ve hugged her first, but the dog is going crazy so I just pick him up and hug him to calm him down, and also because hugging dogs helps me decompress from work. She immediately gets angry and snatches the dog away from me. I tell her I can hug the dog and her at the same time, so she hands me the dog but then she turns around and starts walking away to do something. I give her dog a kiss as she’s turning back around to face me and she starts getting really angry again because I continued to give the dog love before her (I would’ve hugged her like I told her I would had she not walked away).
I put the dog down and I offered to hug her multiple times, to which she refused to hug me back every time, so I just went to get a slice of pizza. She again gets angry and snatches the napkins off my hand, and throws some insults at me as I’m trying to eat (I don’t have much time before I have to leave because I need to study at least 3 hours per day). I tell her that this was a very small issue and there was no need to get this angry, and she starts saying that I only do things for myself and I never do anything for her. That comment made me really angry which led to me saying that she was acting crazy. Then she starts telling me that I embarrassed her in her apartment for making that 1 comment, when she’s been very loudly coming after me the whole time and I wasn’t saying anything back.
I decide to forget about eating and try to leave. My gf follows me outside to the parking lot and continues to try to argue very loudly in public, but I’m able to eventually shut the door to my car and drive away. Once I got back home, I texted her telling her that I was done trying to do things for her for free all the time for her to just tell me I never do anything for her, so I asked her to pay me back for the money I spent today on food and groceries, as well as a few hundred dollars I had let her borrow last year, which she was supposed to pay me back in January but never did (I’ve also lent her almost $1000 for other things in the past that I never got back, but I didn’t feel like asking for that as well). This, obviously, pissed her off even more.
The action I took was hugging my gf’s dog before hugging her. I think I may be the asshole because this made her feel like she wasn’t a priority, and it led to us having a huge argument that wouldn’t have happened if I had hugged her first.
