Day 1 of the walk is now complete. The walkers have reached Holiday Inn, South Normanton and they will depart tomorrow after a delightful sleep.

For reference I'm now 36[m]. My ex and I broke up last November. She broke up with me over text, citing incompatibility due to communication and personality issues. It was a brief 5 month relationship that I felt had a lot of potential, so I took it pretty hard. Around this time I also experienced a family member passing away and our last surviving pet also passing away. It was quite a traumatic time for me to live through. What follows is a brief timeline of what I did to get through this horrendous yet insightful emotional journey.
November-December
Emotional shock. Intense anxiety and restlessness everyday. Reduced appetite and inability to function at work. Trying to process all my thoughts and feelings all at once became numbing at first. I spent the holidays trying to get back with her while at the same time grieving the loss of my family. She sent me a happy birthday text and I sent her a Happy New Year text. I can only describe this foggy time as an intense struggle to stay emotionally alive.
January-March
Healing begins. I started therapy for the first time in my life, ever. I also began educating myself on attachment theory and learned lots of useful bits of human psychology in romance and relationships. I learned my ex was an avoidant, and I was anxious. I learned a lot about mental health issues, how to communicate more effectively with others, and how to be more empathetic towards myself and others. A lot of those things started to make sense in the ways we communicated and handled conflict. I got in touch with friends and family more. I took myself out to places just to leave the house and process my thoughts and emotions. Things slowly got better. My sleep was improving. I was able to cope emotionally better overall, but life was still an intense struggle day by day. I cried a few times, fully realizing the emotional impact of what I'd experienced from the past few months.
On some days I would check her social media and see she was getting along fine without me. Other days I would experience anxiety attacks if I felt she had already found someone else (she has a history of serial monogamy -- dating someone new every 6-9 months). Listening to music on the radio was difficult because every song reminded me of us. I was obsessive about trying to get back with her. I would leave her texts and emails expressing my thoughts and emotions. I stopped by her place a few times, leaving notes describing how much I wanted to change and become a better person and I hope she'd give me a 2nd chance. She contacted me, asked me to stop and leave her alone, threatening legal action. I stopped contacting her, and began focusing on myself more.
April-June
Turning point. Therapy was helping a lot in ways I didn't anticipate. I started getting back into my creative hobbies and picked up new activities. Bowling, hiking, rollerblading (I was born in the 80s so this was something I always enjoyed), photography, getting my drone out as an excuse to go on mini road trips and explore different places. I began developing a new routine for myself, exercising self-care along the way, just in general keeping myself busy and occupied so I wouldn't think about the past as much. I tried online dating at first, and matched with someone who seemed very compatible. It was unsuccessful and I realized I wasn't ready to move on in that way.
Then it happened. Towards the end of May, I suddenly woke up and no longer felt the constant anxiety that engulfed my daily life. I was checking my ex's social media less and less, until I just became unconcerned completely. I was able to listen to music on the radio again without feeling awful about it. I got a lot better at rollerblading, learning really cool tricks along the way. I started matching with more women, having really productive conversations. One woman currently stands out and I felt instant chemistry and butterflies from that connection... a feeling I didn't think I would have for a long while. We've confessed to feeling the same way towards each other. Our first date is this Saturday. I have good expectations but I won't be disappointed if it doesn't work out. I'm happy with myself as it is.
I'm still going to therapy. Looking back at myself in January, I was an utter mess. But I've changed and grown a lot in ways I didn't imagine and I'm proud of the effort I went through to become emotionally grounded again. I know a lot of us in this sub are struggling from break ups too. I just wanted you all to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel as long as you strive to do the innerwork. Exercise patience and self-care. Take the time to rebuild yourself and you'll be okay.

I was looking to use the park and ride UP express option at Pearson but saw that it says your train journey must occur within a 7 hour window and I'll be downtown for 8-9 hours. Do they actually monitor the time that closely or as long as it's on the same day I should be ok?

Ok, first some background. My wife Susan and I have been together since our early twenties. We both come from lower-class backgrounds but I always wanted to do better for myself and my kids (3F, 10F). I didn't go to college, but I managed to start my own business at a young age and slowly built it up throughout the past two decades. I met Susan soon after things started taking off, and she's always been incredibly supportive of everything I do and how much work I put into it, even when that meant I had to put in long hours and wasn't able to see the kids as much as I wanted to during difficult times. Thanks to that, I've been able to grow it into quite a successful business. We're not super rich, but we're doing very well, especially considering where we came from. I'm not sharing the details of the business for obvious reasons. My wife worked at first, but now stays at home. I don't imagine she'll ever go back to working, but if she does I would be fine with that. All in all, it's been very great. We have a wonderful marriage and I love her more than anything. However, we've had more and more issues since I hired my new secretary, Kate, a little less than a year ago.
First, some info about Kate: Last summer I decided that I needed to hire some sort of assistant since my workload was gradually increasing, and I wanted to be able to focus more on the important decisions while still knowing everything that was going on. So, I decided to hire someone for a personal assistant/secretary position. Kate applied straight out of college, and at first I was extremely hesitant to hire someone with very little relevant experience, but she went to a very good school, had excellent grades, and throughout the interview process it became clear that Kate was more than qualified for the position.I called her a secretary but that's definitely underselling what she does. She helps me with organization, finances, business events and trips, and countless other things that I couldn't even name. Like I said, Kate was more than qualified for the position. She's incredibly smart and competent, extremely hardworking, very good at dealing with people, and just very positive in general. She gets along with nearly everyone and has overall been a very positive force for the company. Hiring her was one of the best decisions I ever made for the company.
However, she is also incredibly attractive, and that is where many of the issues arise. I would never think about trying to do anything with her, because I love my wife and am 100% loyal to her, but I can't deny that Kate is an extremely attractive young woman—it's something that everyone notices about her almost immediately, and I've heard others in the company comment on it as well (in a respectful way; I don't tolerate any sort of sexual harassment here). It's simply a fact of life that she is one of those people who is very attractive, and puts a lot of outfit into her clothes, makeup, workouts, etc. I believe she even did some sort of modeling at some point, though I don't know the specifics.
Susan never expressed any reservations about my hiring a secretary, even knowing that it was a young woman, until she met her face to face at a company holiday party. I still remember that moment, she seemed almost stunned when she met Kate for the first time. Ever since then, the problems have started to pop up. It started with Susan making snide comments about Kate whenever I would mention her. Then she started to refuse going to any event if Kate would be there. Whenever I talk about anything at work or any social event, Susan will ask me if Kate was there (and she almost always is) and then will make some rude remark about her. Whenever I get home late, Susan seems mad at me, and distant. Recently I've started working late again because of some issues, and Susan keeps asking me questions about Kate then as well. I asked her if she thinks I'm cheating, and she said no.
Obviously, I'm not cheating and would never cheat. My relationship with Kate is 100% professional and neither of us has ever done or said anything inappropriate to the other. We have a very friendly relationship, and often talk about personal matters at work, but we never hang out outside work or company parties. Everything is 100% professional. However, even with my reassurances, Susan doesn't seem to be put at ease. The one company event that Susan did go to recently, she was extremely rude to Kate and almost made a scene. I think she's being totally unreasonable. We've been arguing A LOT more recently, and she's basically told me to fire Kate without saying it directly. She'll say stuff like "You care about Kate more than you care about me and the kids."
I don't know what to do. I can't prove to my wife that I'm not cheating, and she says she believes me anyway, but is still mad. And of course I can't fire Kate over this. I feel totally lost. What should I do? How can I fix this without being unfair to Kate?

I am going on holiday this Friday, and I have been on weekly collections of controlled medication for a long time. I always collect 7 tablets every Wednesday and this has become a nice little routine for me.
As I am away on holiday this Friday, I asked to collect TWO weeks at once today (Wednesday) and my doctor said that's fine, however he sent down a 14 day script which was separate from my actual script and said this was a holiday script. HOWEVER that script was due to start tomorrow (A THU) therefore I would be without medication for one day, which I would do but didn't see how this is fair, I didn't understand.
So the doctors then say '' this is new rules, or we must always write individual scripts when travelling abroad, so if you're collecting early, you will need a different script ''
Now when home from my holiday I will then change my collection days which I am OK about, no big deal but what on Earth does this all mean?
IF on a weekly collection, a individual script needs to be written so that it's separate from the script the patient already has? So I already have my repeat there, however why would they need to write an individual script, rather than just letting me do as above?
So here's a simple way of thinking about it

1. I would collect my usual 7 day pills today2. Need to collect next weeks 7 but in another country(Can't do)3. 7 per week over four weeks/ 28 per box, per month, with a repeat script that the pharmacy orders and arranges
2. Done this for years and went on holiday so many times and just been given two weeks at once, but this time they write a new script and say this is the one to cover now until after your holiday, when returned you will have your own original script? Maybe this is to show evidence that a doctor actually O.K'd this rather than a phone call being good enough from doctor to pharmacy.

I said to them both how utterly ashamed and pathetic I feel, that this has happened to me, that I already need to be on Z Drugs and feel ashamed of myself, and this whole situation has made me feel really embarrassed. They told me to come and collect a fucking one tablet prescription instead of just telling the pharmacy to let me collect it today, that way nothing would've changed, however to make up for the missed day that's what they done.
Now I go in to the pharmacy like a total loser collecting this one pill, something I have never needed to do in my entire life, feeling utterly helpless and ashamed. I expressed all of this politely, but I doubt anyone will even care.
I am now at the point where I feel I'd prefer to just not take any medication from anyone and just deal with my own problem with alcohol or actual drugs, if they make mistakes like this, then I am the one who feels to blame.
P.S - I GAVE THEM 10 DAYS NOTICE, I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE ORGANIZED, but still I feel embarrassed.
I just want to know what the rules are really, and if on a prescription that's weekly dispense differs from a normal script of say 28 tablets

Colorado State’s been consistently solid in the Mountain West with a few great years under Sonny Lubick and Jim McElwain mixed in. Lubick was so successful that Colorado State’s since named their field after him: Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium. Under his tutelage, CSU won 6 conference titles (3 WAC, 3 Mountain West) from 1994-2002. Before Lubick arrived, CSU hadn’t won a conference title in 40 years, and only 1 in the last 60. They owe this ranking to Lubick, and I think fans would admit the same.

Colorado State has a worse winning percentage than some teams lower on the list like Louisiana Tech, but has had higher highs with five 10 win seasons. Adept at producing quality skill position players lately, CSU’s 4 consensus All-Americans have been WR Rashard Higgins (2014), WR Michael Gallup (2017), TE Trey McBride (2021), and DB Greg Myers (1995). During the Lubick years CSU was a consistent top non-Power 6 team, appearing in the Top 25 at any point in the season for 7 straight years from 1997-2003. 1994 and 2014 as well. Notable NFL players have included LB Joey Porter, LB Shaquil Barrett, WR Michael Gallup, and TE Joel Dreessen.

Top 5 Seasons

Worst Season: 1988 (1-10 overall, 1-7 WAC)
It was a bad time to be a Colorado State fan. Colorado University, just a 1 hour drive from CSU, would win the national title 2 years later in 1990. Colorado State themselves floundered to a combined 2-21 record from 1987-88, with not much hope for the future. A 1-10 record featured 5 one-possession losses, and a last place finish in the WAC. A late season Toilet Bowl matchup between 1-9 New Mexico and 1-8 Colorado State decided who was placed in the basement, with New Mexico narrowly avoiding the distinction with a 24-23 win. CSU’s lone win was over San Diego State, who finished 3-8. QB Scooter Molander (great name) threw 9 TD to 22 INT, leading the country in picks. RB Scott Whitehouse (less cool name but still solid) led the team in rushing yards and receptions, totalling 1081 yards from scrimmage. And my personal favorite, backup RB Todd Yert, added 651 from scrimmage. Yert would actually go on to be a key contributor over the next 3 years, totalling 36 rushing TDs in his career.
5. 2014 (10-3 overall, 6-2 Mountain West)
Before Jim McElwain had his highs and lows at Florida, he was the up-and-coming coach at Colorado State. CSU was already coming off its best season in over a decade at 8-6 in 2013, and many thought they could take it a step further in 2014. CSU avenged last season’s loss to Colorado in the opener, winning 31-17 thanks to 100 yard rushing performances from RBs Dee Hart and Trevous Jarrells. They weren’t quite good enough to take down Boise State yet, the class of the WAC, and fell to 1-1. After that, things were great—they beat Boston College and future CSU coach Steve Addazio 24-21, a 10-4 Utah State team 16-13, and rival Wyoming 45-31. By the end of the year, #22 Colorado State was 10-1 playing 8-3 Air Force, and All-American WR Rashard Higgins did all he could (193 yards and 2 TD) but AF walked off on a 27-24 FG. CSU got blown out in the bowl to #23 Utah as well, once a former Mountain West rival who had since moved on to a stronger conference.
QB Garrett Grayson won Mountain West Offensive POTY, throwing for 4006 yards 32 TD 7 INT and ranking 2nd in the country in YPA. WR Rashard Higgins was a consensus All-American and a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, catching 96 passes for 1750 yards and 17 TD. Jim McElwain won MWC Coach of the Year, and was scooped up by Florida before the bowl game.
4. 2002 (10-4 overall, 6-1 Mountain West)
By this point in time, Sonny Lubick had established Colorado State as a non-AQ conference power, winning 5 conference titles in the prior 8 seasons. This was the last of them, and the 4th best team of his. Led by QB Bradlee Van Pelt, who was originally recruited by Nick Saban to play at Michigan State, the Rams’ season could not have started any better. He out-dueled Matt Schaub and Virginia on opening day, winning 35-29. After that was one of the biggest wins in school history, beating #7 Colorado 19-14. Van Pelt spiked the ball into a Colorado defender’s helmet after a 23 yard TD run to take the lead with 6 minutes remaining. CUBuffs.com called it “one of the most classless displays of sportsmanship the rivalry has ever seen.” Colorado State flirted with the top 25 most of the year, getting up to #16 by the end of the year to play UNLV. CSU lost both that game and the bowl game to TCU, but still clinched the Mountain West title. Wins included top 25 finishers Virginia and Colorado, along with 8-5 Air Force and 7-6 Louisville.
Van Pelt won his 1st of 2 Mountain West Offensive POTY awards, throwing for 2000+ yards while rushing for 819 and 11 TD. RB Cecil Sapp, who missed the entire 2001 season with a foot injury, was an absolute workhorse, leading the NCAA in rushing attempts, carrying the ball 347 times for 1601 yards and 17 TD. Lubick’s final season would be in 2007.
3. 2000 (10-2 overall, 6-1 Mountain West)
Colorado State moved from the WAC to the Mountain West in 1999, and won the conference title in their first year. Going into 2000, they aimed to repeat. They continued to make Colorado’s life hell, beating the #23 Buffaloes for the second straight year in the opener. After a letdown loss to Arizona State, CSU began its quest for a 2nd straight MWC title, beating eventual 3rd place UNLV 20-19, 5th place New Mexico 17-14, and finally BYU 45-21, clinching at least a share of the Mountain West title. That set up 8-1 Colorado State vs 6-3 Air Force for a chance to win the title outright. Air Force took an early lead and CSU only barely couldn’t come back, falling 40-44 in the snow. The Rams still clinched an outright conference title the following week with a 37-13 beating of a poor Wyoming team. With a win over #22 Louisville in the bowl, Colorado State finished #14 in the AP Poll, the highest in school history. QB Matt Newton won MWC Offensive POTY, while LB Rick Crowell won Defensive POTY.
2. 1994 (10-2 overall, 7-1 WAC)
When Sonny Lubick took over in 1993, it can’t be understated how much of a graveyard the Colorado State program was. Before a bowl appearance in 1990, they played in just 1 bowl in their entire history, which dates back to 1902. Armed with 29 year old Urban Meyer as assistant coach, the 1994 team was the best in school history up to that point, and might still be. And nobody saw it coming.
Colorado State started by beating one of the classes of the WAC in Air Force, 34-21. A few weeks later it was #22 BYU’s turn, beating the Cougars 28-21. All of a sudden the Rams were serious contenders in the WAC. Down for so long, the unthinkable happened. #23 Colorado State travelled to #6 Arizona, one of the favorites for the national title. A few hours after the opening kickoff, the Rams stood with their heads held high, victors in Tucson 21-16. The win propelled CSU to #13, and the Rams hosted #18 Utah 2 weeks later. Utah won in a let down game, but CSU won their last 3 games to finish 10-1 and win their first ever WAC title and first conference title under Lubick. A 14-24 loss in the bowl to #20 Michigan showed they could definitely hang with the big boys, and the Arizona win wasn’t a fluke. Colorado State finished #16 in the nation with a 10-2 record, and were 12th in my rankings. Lubick earned Sports Illustrated National Coach of the Year.
1. 1997 (11-2 overall, 7-1 WAC)
As good as the 1994 team was, they only beat opponents by an average of 11 points a game, while the 1997 team outscored opponents by over 20 a game. After a disappointing 2-2 start with losses to Colorado and 0-24 to Air Force, CSU was flawless the rest of the way. A 9-2 regular season record featured an average score of 43-11 in the final 7 game win streak. 9-2 New Mexico and 9-2 Colorado State seemed like an even matchup on paper but it wasn’t close, with the Rams winning 41-13. A 35-24 win over #19 Missouri in the Holiday Bowl made up for losing the Holiday Bowl twice in 1994 and ‘95. Colorado State finished 17th in the AP Poll, and according to my algorithm, this is their best team.
The team set a school record for points (442) and TDs (59) in a season, ranking 7th in the nation in PPG (36.7). The defense forced 43 turnovers in 13 games, with future NFL starters LB Joey Porter, LB Clark Haggans, and DB Jason Craft, and was also top 10 in the country giving up just 15.6 PPG. QB Moses Moreno won the WAC Offensive POTY with 2257 pass yards 20 TD 9 INT, and was a 7th round draft pick by the Chicago Bears after the season. RBs Damon Washington and Kevin McDougal both ran for 1000+ yards, combining for 2223 yards and 21 TD on 6.7 YPC.

recently i booted up skyrim se after deleting some spicier mods and all my charaters started t posing and not moving all the animals animate fine its just the npc's i re downloaded the spicy mods and it still isnt working is there a fix to it? heres my modlist:

I just hope that people see this post, that they might start spreading the news before it’s too late. Something big is coming, something ancient, something older than any of us could have ever imagined. It might be too late. I don’t know what will become of me, of the people I love that I might never see again, by the time you are reading this. But I implore you to listen and take this story seriously, because it could save your life. Or not. I don’t know yet how deep this goes. If it’s true, if what I think is true…God help us. Nothing can save us now that Nature is fighting back.
I’ll start at the beginning, because you need to understand how long this has been happening, and the implications of what is possible now that it’s getting worse.
Over winter break, I went to visit my friend from high school, Jackson, in Vermont. He goes to Bennington College, studies Social Sciences with a minor in Linguistics. Smart guy. He used to write my papers for me in English class, and I would pay him back in six packs. That’s always how it was: him, studious and put together, and me itching to get outside. I was constantly on the move, biking through the forests behind my house, trail-running, building a treehouse for my little brothers, you name it. I wanted to get my hands dirty, get into nature. I guess that’s why I opted out of college, and went for camp counselor positions and summer gigs until I secured a conservation job with a park near home. Nature is important to me, and I want to do my part as the generation that has a responsibility to heal the world.
The outside was what called me to Bennington, aside from the fact that I missed my best buddy. I don’t remember when it was first brought to my attention, but I became aware of murmurings of Bennington’s rocky past online about a few months before I was set to visit Jackson. Being an experienced outdoorsman, I wasn’t afraid; on the contrary, I was rather excited to get out there and prove my worth to Jackson and his college buddies, who were far less athletic than I am. Looking back, I’m kicking myself for being so cocky. I can’t believe I ever thought of my best friend in that way.
From what I could see on the internet, Bennington College’s history was a long and often sinister one. There were videos about people vanishing into thin air: a girl wearing a red parka went for a hike alone and was never found, an experienced man leading an outdoor expedition disappeared in the woods, a woman fell into a stream, doubled back to the campsite to change her clothes, but never made it to the site, a man on a bus disappeared from the vehicle at a stop but left all of his luggage, a teenage boy was waiting in his mother’s truck and when she came back, he was mysteriously gone…I wish I could say these stories deterred me from poking my head somewhere where it didn’t belong.
Instead, I only grew more curious. What was going on in this so-called “Bennington Triangle?” I was in a unique position to investigate this phenomenon for myself. Many people hear about strange occurrences and the intrigue piques their interest, but they never have the chance to see it for themselves. But I could. I knew I could hold my own out in the wilderness—it was literally my job! Besides, I was a strong, slightly stubborn young man, built steadily, and I could protect myself well. What could possibly happen to me out in those woods, much less to a group of young college-aged men? The people who went missing most likely made one fatal mistake that cost them their lives, or maybe it was all just a big coincidence. Either way, I was about to find out for myself.
It was halfway through December when I left to meet up with Jackson. I got there on the last day of classes, and Jackson told me he would be busy until later in the day. I assumed he was cramming for a final, and I told him it was no big deal, I would meet up with him and maybe meet some of his buddies later. Besides, I had some plans of my own.
The most famous missing persons case in Bennington went cold, and is still unsolved to this day. The case is a tragic one, and I didn’t want to be insensitive by going around asking for information or throwing around names. Everything I needed, I found online. Paula Welden was the name of the girl in the red parka that went missing. Allegedly, she left campus one day to go on a hike by herself. She left the campus around 3pm and hitchhiked to an entrance to the Long Trail, a trail that runs for almost 300 miles from Massachusetts all the way to the Canadian Border. She wasn’t dressed to be outside for long, but as the story goes, she never made it back from the trail.
There was one sighting of her, however, that particularly interested me. A man reported that he had seen her running around, rather erratically, in the bottom of a gravel pit near the entrance of campus, and I wanted to see if there was anything left of the pit. Because I’m experienced with many different kinds of natural phenomena, I initially wondered if there wasn’t a natural explanation for her distressed behavior. I thought maybe there might be an insect nest or an infestation of small animals at the bottom of the pit that she might have disturbed, so I decided to check it out in my free time. After the RA checked me in and I tossed my luggage into Jackson’s dorm, I packed a small backpack with essentials: water, sunscreen, energy bars, mini first aid kit, some rope, a utility tool, a flashlight, and a lightweight jacket. Then I headed out towards the pit.
The first thing I noticed was how much smaller the pit seemed. According to the eyewitness description of the incident, Paula was running up and down the side of a deep gravel pit, but what lay in front of me now was something much more shallow. I walked down into the center of what was left of the pit, but I could easily see over the edges. The small, dark fragments of rock crunched and ground together under my hiking boots, and the slowly sinking midday sun bounced off of the remnants of white snow around me. It was an unusually sunny day for winter, and the snow was, curiously, letting up for my visit. But the good luck for me ran out here—there seemed to be nothing to investigate at this location. My hopes of finding any evidence of insect or pest infestation that could have disturbed the girl were dashed, maybe buried several feet underground.
I lingered awhile, kicking at the bits of gravel in the small pit. I watched the small rocks scatter over the rest of the gravel, hitting up against the edge of the pit and rolling back down a few inches. I turned to go, but stopped. Maybe it was a trick of my eye, the sun reflecting harshly off of the snow and glinting in my sunglasses, causing me to not see clearly. I walked to the edge of the pit and kicked some more gravel at the side. The small rocks skipped across the uneven surface of the gravel pile, and scattered up the edge of the pit, farther than gravity should allow them to travel. I kicked more, and it happened again. My heart started beating faster.
I crouched down and picked up a small stone. I rolled it gently across the gravel, softly enough that it started to slow when it reached the incline of the side of the pit. I watched, astounded, as the rock slowly rolled uphill about a foot before coming to a stop. I gave a shout of excitement and jumped to my feet.
As I stood up straight I nearly fell back down. In an instant, my hearing seemed to go and I felt an overwhelming sense of claustrophobia. I spun around, thinking someone must be behind me, messing with me, but the sensation of closeness stayed pressing at my back. I spun around again, searching for an explanation. My head was fuzzy. I heard my footsteps, overwhelmingly loud, and I couldn’t hear anything else, almost as if my range of hearing was limited to my immediate surroundings. Like I was trapped in the pit. As soon as those words flashed through my head, the claustrophobia overwhelmed me, pushing up against the very air around my body. The silence built up inside my ears until all I could hear was my muffled footsteps, my desperate breathing, and the blood rushing faster and faster through my body.
I lunged for the edge, clambering up the side as fast as I could. Instantly upon passing over the edge the sounds of the late afternoon bore down on my ears. I stumbled and covered my ears, the chirping of the birds and rustling leaves almost too loud for me to bear.
It’s not that I was scared. Obviously, I was a little shaken up. As I hastened back towards Jackson’s dorm, I tried to rationalize what had just happened to me. Maybe I hadn’t drank enough water and I simply became dizzy. Maybe it was altitude sickness. Maybe a strange bug had bitten me and I temporarily lost my bearings. Nothing quite made sense. I tried to push it from my mind and focus on having a good first day, because soon I would be meeting Jackson’s college buddies.
When I got back to the dorm, Jackson was waiting for me. Fresh from the shower, his hair was damp and he was putting on a clean t-shirt. Pulling me into a hug, he expressed his excitement over my visit, asked me about my flight, what I thought about the campus—all the preliminary niceties. Internally, I breathed a sigh of relief. Even if he noticed, he didn’t pry and try to ask me about my slightly shaking hands, my pale face, or the vague disconnectedness with which I answered his questions.
That night eased my worries slightly. I ended up meeting Jackson’s group of friends and, together, we ventured into downtown Bennington. We hit a few bars and chilled at some of the many breweries in town. Live music, good company, and many, many beers did wonders on my nerves. By the end of the night, I had completely forgotten all about my encounter in the gravel pit. Jackson’s friends were nice guys, and I was too busy feeling proud about my best friend coming out of his shell in college. When he left, I had my doubts, but it was crystal clear that Jackson was really coming into himself at this school.
The festivities continued for the next few days: the guys were stoked to be done with their final exams and excited to connect with Jackson’s old friend, so we spent our time drinking and hanging out, bumping music and generally having a blast. It was almost enough for me to forget about one of the very reasons I was excited to be in Bennington in the first place.
It’s been a few days since that incident. I had even almost started to feel better about the whole thing. Maybe it was a mistake to poke around in old history, and maybe I should just focus on living my own life and fulfilling my own passions, working to heal nature as best as I can. But now Jackson and his friends want to go on a hike, and I’m starting to feel that same claustrophobia creeping back in. What the hell is out there, and why do I feel like I shouldn’t be messing with it?

On Monday I was in a hotel for the girlfriends work. I worked the morning from the room, had late checkout at 2pm, and worked the last 3.5 hours from the bar area.
A woman arrived just before me and took my favourite spot in the corner with a socket for my laptop charger, so I sat a few tables down the same bench.
A few minutes later a woman I at first thought was a friend arrived. Between work and calls, I listened to this woman extract her dreams, and tell her she could have them, expect hardship because the most successful people struggled the most, etc, for three and a half hours! This girl had a hearing issue too and seemed to have struggled with it, and just wanted to make a living and agency in her life.
I wrote a note to her that I was going to just hand her as I left, but as I was finishing it up the succubus went to the toilet. I told her I was sorry to burst her bubble (she was so excited about the future and being able to contribute to the household income) it was a pyramid scheme. I told her about this subreddit too. Then I gave her the note anyway so she'd have it written down.
I keep thinking about her and wondering what happened. Part of me hopes that she will come here and read this and tell us it stopped her, but that's not realistic.
I'm glad I tried though

They live about an hour away. Last week I visited them with plans to help them move into a new apartment. Once there, I found out that they hadn't actually talked to the new landlord (only the other existing tenants) and couldn't move in until they did so. Ended up that there was no way to reach the landlord so we put most of their belongings into storage. I believe they spent one, maybe two, nights in their old apartment before they were evicted. They've spent a few nights couch surfing with friends, and they've visited their local homeless shelter looking for a bed. Last night they called looking for help, but I didn't know what to tell them. They have not asked to move back home, and I have not offered.
The reasons behind that are complicated. They moved out of the house when they were 18 because we were not getting along as a family. They were messy, rude and fought with us continuously. Their little sister spent most of her time at the neighbors to avoid the fights, and we had to put her into therapy. (All of that ended when they moved out.) Looking back I know that they will say I kicked them out, but in my view point they were the one who walked out the door. I remember going out of my way to deliver some personal items to them about a week later and they wouldn't even say "thanks". Them moving out was probably a good thing for the rest of our household.
We continued to support them financially over the past few years. We paid for a semester of college which was a stupid thing to do. I'm not blaming them at all for that, I should've known better but at the time we were desperate to help them find some "structure" in their life. They used a car we owned and maintained until it fell apart. We provided them with money for security deposits for 3 to 4 different apartments over the years. And we helped them with rent money when they needed it.
We've also tried to support them emotionally as well within some limits. They've been home for short (2 to 3 day) visits at holidays. Unfortunately during at least one of those visits they went through things they were specifically told not to touch, and ended up taking an old skillet and some dresses. (They had been caught stealing several personal items from their mom when they lived at home.) They could've asked for those things, but by sneaking them out of the house it brought back all the old feelings of distrust.
They've had similar relationships with their roommates. Most places they have ended up renting a room in a house with strangers. (This last place was an exception in that they knew at least one of them in-person, and the other on-line.) Every roommate experience has ended up with fights, accusations of theft and declarations that the other people are terrible. It just makes me think of the expression that if everyone around you is an asshole, maybe you're the asshole. I saw how they were living when I helped them move out of their last place, and I would not want to live like that.
So, that's it. I can't invite them home because I'm concerned about the safety and stability of my family. I can't give them money because I've been doing that for years and it just never stops. We've tried to help them find housing resources but there just aren't any with how things are going.
