He arrived with his parents and his famous siblings - Janet, LaToya, Jermaine, Tito and Randy. They waved to the fans chants of Michael is Innocent! https://preview.redd.it/p8jtchhn0p3b1.jpg?width=612&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cb1c23e69cfefb6e4608aa16b3650011976c106 Defense attorneys completed their closing arguments, labeling the Arvizo family liars and con artists trying to pull the biggest con of their careers. "They are trying to take advantage of Michael Jackson," said impassioned defense attorney Thomas Mesereau. "They are trying to profit from Michael Jackson. They think they have pulled it off. They are just waiting for one thing - your verdict." "What they are trying to do to Michael Jackson is so harmful, so brutal, so devastating if you have any reasonable doubt about the double-talk, the lies, its over. You must acquit Michael Jackson," he told the 12 jurors. Mesereau spoke about the American system of justice and said, "We have the best system in the world and ladies and gentlemen I'm begging you to honor the system. You must acquit him." He accused prosecutors of trying to "dirty up Michael" because they lack the evidence to prove their case. "The witnesses are preposterous, the perjury is everywhere," Mesereau declared. "None of it works. The only thing they've had is to throw dirt all over the place and hope it sticks." He added: "If you look in your hearts do you believe Michael Jackson is evil in that way? Is it even possible? It really is not." Mesereau then played excerpts from a video in which Jackson denies any sexual impropriety and said that he had never been betrayed or deceived by children. The defense attorney conceded that Jackson had been lax with his money and had let the wrong people into his circle. But, he said, the singer was not the monster the prosecution were trying to depict and that he was not guilty of any crime. Afterwards, prosecutor Ron Zonen delivered a brief rebuttal. He sought to answer the question of Jacksons motivation for the crime asking, "Why would Mr. Jackson do it? Because he could This child was in love with him. This child would do anything he said." Zonen reminded jurors of the past allegations made against Jackson saying that this was necessary in order to see the total picture. He claimed that Jackson was in love with his 1993 accuser and added that the current accuser is a clone of the boy in that case. After both sides rested for the last time, Judge Rodney Melville ordered the eight women and four men on the jury to begin their deliberations. He gave them a 98-page book of instructions. The Judge told Jackson that he could stay at Neverland during the proceedings but requested that the attorneys remain within 10 minutes of the courthouse in case the jurors had any questions. These deliberations are the final stage of an ordeal that began 14 weeks ago. During this time the jury has heard testimony from over 130 witnesses. A verdict was expected early next week. Paul Gongaware AEG cross Putnam asked Gongaware if MJ was comfortable with all the show dates. "Yes, I went through all of the dates with him," Gongaware said. Bugzee, the tour manager, had a big calendar on the walls, Gongaware explained, saying they changed the dates of the shows four times. The jury was shown an email in which Gongaware worked with a staffer to create a calendar to show Jackson. He wanted colors changed. He wanted the calendar to be changed so that it reflected Jackson's show dates and off days differently. Gongaware email: Figure it out so it looks like he's not working so much As to the email, Putnam asked if he was trying to fool Michael: "No, I was trying to make it clear, trying to get it just the way I wanted it," Gongaware responded. After changing 4 show dates Gongaware said Michael was comfortable with it. He would do 8 shows in July, 10 in August, 9 in September. There would be no shows in October, November and December, resuming with 10 shows in January, 10 in February and three in March. No back-to-back shows. Gongaware said the O2 Arena had a previous commitment in Oct-Dec of 2009 and they could not have the concerts. Putnam: "Was this a rigorous schedule?" Gongaware: "No, not at all" Gongaware recalled that on the HIStory tour they did 10-12 shows per month, from country to country, but this one would stay in London only. Gongaware said he wasn't concerned with Michael's age. "He seemed great to me," he said, and this was stationary show, didn't have to travel. Gongaware: The reason Michael wanted to delay the 1st show was he wanted more time to rehearse in the O2 Arena where the show would take place. He said Michael and Kenny Ortega would decide the rehearsal schedule. Gongaware explained Michael didn't have to attend rehearsals, since it was not part of his deal. He said they never require an artist to rehearse. "I didn't have any expectation," Gongaware said regarding Michael rehearsing. He said he's never seen a requirement for a musicial artist to rehearse & that during the HIStory tour, Michael didn't rehearse but nailed it. "When it was game time, he would show up," Gongaware explained. For instance, Gongaware cited an outdoor concert in Bangkok in high heat, humidity. As to the email Gongaware wrote about calling Michael lazy, he said he used unfortunate choices of words, Michael didn't like to rehearse. Talking about the elements of the show, Gongaware described what they wanted to do for the opening of the show. He said Michael would be dressed up in a LED suit, like a television, flashing on him brief movie about things that happened in history. Michael would be lowered down onto the stage. He called the LED suit a "Moon man" suit, but Ortega called it "Light man." Putnam showed a presentation of how the LED suit idea would work. Footage is not on This Is It documentary because it was early stages of prep. Gongaware said the 1st idea was to make Michael float from the audience, but they couldn't make it work. So they decided to lower him down onto the stage. Gongaware said the big screen on the back of the stage was 3D capable. The audience would be given glasses when they entered the show. The 3D songs would be Thriller, Earth Song and Smooth Criminal. "He wanted to do biggest, best show ever, live show," Gongaware said Putnam showed email chain from Ortega to Gongaware asking to make a deal with choreographer Travis Payne. Answer from Gongaware: This is not AEG money, it's Michael's money so it takes a lot of time to get approvals Defendants were trying to establish a pattern that all the money spent was actually Michael's money, not AEG's, just like with Dr. Murray At one point Gongaware said he learned from Michael about a doctor named Murray. "He came to me and said he wanted his personal doctor on the tour". Gongaware said he suggested to Michael to get a licensed doctor in London who would know the lay of the land, in case of need. "This is the machine, we have to take care of the machine. I want Conrad," Gongaware said Michael responded. I think what he meant was his brain could create it but his body had to deliver the show every night Putnam: "Were you surprised he wanted to take his doctor on tour?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Why not?" Gongaware: "He had doctors before" Gongaware said other artists take doctors as well, so he was not the only one and it didn't surprise him. Gongaware said he's been on tour before where an artist had chiropractors, but couldn't remember being in one with a doctor Putnam: "Did you worry Michael might have a health issue?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Why not?" Gongaware: "He seemed fine to me, had a physical and passed" Gongaware said the suggestion for a London doctor was due to the cost; paying a doctor full time was much more expensive than hiring a local doctor. Gongaware said Dr. Murray treated Michael for about three years before 2009. He knew the doctor was from Las Vegas but said he was in LA. Gongaware said he then called Dr. Murray to work out a deal. Gongaware testified he didn't have Michael's direct phone number, would go through Michael Amir Williams, his personal assistant, to reach him. Gongaware called Murray on behalf of Michael saying the singer wanted to take him to London. "What do you want to be paid for that," Gongaware asked. Gongaware said he thought Dr. Murray was expecting his call and was aware of the desire to take him on tour. "He said he would need $5 million," Gongaware recalled. "He said he has 4 clinics to close, would lay off people, needs $5 million for that." Asked by Putnam if Murray's price was reasonable: "It was ridiculous," Gongaware said about the amount asked. "It was a lot of money for something like that and Michael could not afford it." Gongaware said he responded that it wasn't going to work" He said this was the first time he spoke with Dr. Murray. After that, Gongaware said he told Michael Amir and Randy Phillips what the doctor had asked. He also told Frank DiLeo. Gongaware said a lot of people who wanted to work for MJ asked for huge sums of money, thinking he had a lot. Putnam: "Would you be doing this if Michael had not asked you?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Did you contemplate bringing a doctor on tour?" Gongaware: "I didn't think he needed one, we didn't have one in History, he was fine" "He was Michael's doctor, Michael wanted him. That was it," Gongaware said. Putnam:" Did you think about checking the doctor?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Why not?" Gongaware: "He was Michael's doctor" " I'm not going to tell Michael Jackson who his doctor should be," Gongaware explained. "It wasn't my place to say who his doctor was going to be," Gongaware said. "It was his decision." Gongaware said he doesn't think a doctor's financial situation has anything to do with being an ethical doctor. Gongaware said it never crossed his mind to either do a background check on Dr. Murray or to suggest to anyone to do it. "I just expect doctors to be ethical, the financial side of their lives shouldn't have an impact on their medical decision," Gongaware opined. Gongaware said he never did a background check on anyone he hired and had he done one on Dr. Murray, it would've been out of the ordinary. He also said he never considered performing background checks on Jackson's makeup artist, a choreographer who worked one-on-one with the singer or Kenny Ortega, the tour's director. "I didn't see the need for it," he said. Dr. Finkelstein, a friend of Gongaware, said a doctor should charge $10,000 a month for the tour work. But Dr. Finkelstein would've done it for free, since he was on the Dangerous tour before and had a lot of fun The second call about Dr. Murray came from Michael Amir Williams saying they were going to need to get a deal done for the doctor. Gongaware said he heard Michael in the car saying "offer 150, offer 150." Gongaware understood that to be $150k/month. Gongaware called Dr. Murray, said he was authorized to offer him $150k a month. He said Dr. Murray responded that he couldn't do it for that. Gongaware told him the offer came directly from the artist and Dr. Murray responded: "I'll take it" Gongaware said Michael approved the amount of compensation. "Michael told me offer 150," Gongaware recalled. "And that's what I did." Gongaware inquired from Dr. Murray how he would get a license in London and the doctor told him not to worry about it. They talked about Dr. Murray's request for a house in London, and the doctor said he would need a three bedroom house. Gongaware recalled Dr. Murray saying he would probably need an assistant and some equipment, but no details were given at this point. After the call, Gongaware said he let Michael Amir Williams know what the result was in a May 6th email: Done at 150k per month, per MJ. He needs about 10 days to wind down his practice then he will be full time Asked why he had negotiated with Murray, the AEG executive replied that he was "instructed to by Michael Jackson." Gongaware said there was no other reason for him to deal with the doctor. Marvin Putnam asked Gongaware why he didn't tell Jackson he couldn't take Murray on tour with him."Because he could if he wanted," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he passed Dr. Murray on to Timm Wooley, never had any other conversation with Dr. Murray about him possibly going to London. Putnam: "Do you have any understanding as to whether a contract with Dr. Murray was executed?" Gongaware: "One never was" Putnam: "Did AEG pay Dr. Murray any kind of money?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said Michael was ultimately responsible for his own health: "I think everyone is responsible for their own health and well being. He was a grown man with the capability to make decisions regarding his health and medical care" Putnam showed Gongaware a frame from the This Is It film in which Jackson's manager, Frank Dileo, was sitting in on dancer auditions. Dancers auditions took place at the Nokia Theater on April 13, 14 & 15. Michael attended the last day and made the final decision, Gongaware said. He said Ortega wanted to film the audition to use fresh footage on michaeljacksonlive.com. The cost for crew to shoot the audition was very high, so Gongaware bought a couple of cameras and used his own crew to shoot the rehearsals. He said he wasn't sure what he would use the video for, but thought the website would be a good platform. Gongaware said during the period at Center Staging, Michael was good, engaging, didn't think there were any health issues or was using drugs Gongaware said the media in the UK was going wild with gossip about Michael Jackson. "They just lie about things." The Sun claimed Michael had skin cancer on his chest. "It was sport over in London," Gongaware said about stories on tabloids. Gongaware testified about emails in which UK press agents working on This Is It sent him tabloid reports on Michael's health. Gongaware said he urged the press agents not to respond. He wanted Jackson's performance to speak for itself & silence skeptics. Gongaware on 5/27/09: The Kid is healthy and rehearsing every day. He was still there at dance rehearsals at 9pm last night when I left. Our redemption will be when he does his shows, that makes all of this build up so damn sweet. We don't have to sell tickets, so we can just sit back and prove them wrong by just doing it. Gongaware said he was not concerned "If there was something going on, if he had cancer, we would've heard about it." Michael Jackson rehearsal venues: - Mar 28- Center Staging
- May 27- Forum June 23 - Staples Center
- July 13 - O2 Arena
Putnam also asked Gongaware about an incident Karen Faye testified about, that she heard him yelling at Michael's assistant one day. The incident occurred while This Is It rehearsals were happening at The Forum in LA. Faye claimed she heard Gongaware yelling about Jackson being late to a rehearsal and told his assistant to get him there. "Never, never happened," Gongaware said, shaking his head. Putnam went through a chain of emails about tabloid reports in the UK regarding Michael. In one, it said Michael had asked AEG to reduce the number of shows by half. Gongaware said that such a discussion never happened. Gongaware testified he woke up to one gossip headline pretty much every day. His idea was simply to ignore the tabloids. "An amazing show would be the answer", Gongaware said Gongaware on 6/5/09 in response to Sunday Mirror Query: "We can only make this work, of course, if MJ puts on the best show of his life. I'm here to tell you that be will. I have seen it for myself. Last night he ran 9 songs with full band, singers and dancers. Sang every one, he was amazing, captivating, riveting. And he's just getting started. Taking it one step further. When people realize that bulls**t the press has been, they will be in receptive mood for the truth Hey look. No skin cancer. He's just a good dad, loving raising his kids. His art and his craft are paramount. A gentle, loving man who does care about people "The shows were going to be spectacular," Gongaware said. Putnam showed a clip of Michael in front of a green screen with 11 dancers, who would become 11,000. Gongaware said Michael was great at this point Regarding email Phillips sent Gongaware directing to remove Michael's "skeletal" scenes Gongaware said he didn't take anything out of the movie. Putnam: "Did you remove anything from the movie?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam showed a clip from This Is It with the making of "Thriller 3D" and Jackson wearing red jacket. Putnam: "Did you try to alter in anyway how Mr. Jackson looked, appeared?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said he didn't remember any of the footage been removed because of how Michael looked. "We just let the footage speak for itself" The mini-movie of "Earth Song" a bulldozer would come out from a ramp in center stage. Putnam: "A real bulldozer?" Gongaware: "I wish, it would've been cheaper, but it would have crushed our ramps" Gongaware said they had to build the bulldozer like a prop. It would appear at the end of the song on stage. "I think the live audience would be just captivated by it," Gongaware said about the little girl running after the last plant on Earth song. End of the show would be 3D animation. An airplane taxis up, door opens, Michael entered the plane. The airplane door closes, Michael would actually take an elevator down and out of the building, but the plane would take off over the audience Gongaware said he didn't know if anyone was responsible for Michael's nourishment. Tour would be demanding and exhausting Gongaware said he met Dr. Murray once at MJ's Carolwood house and ran into him at The Forum during rehearsal. There was a meeting scheduled to discuss Michael's nutrition with Randy Phillips, Kenny Ortega, Dr. Murray, Michael, Gongaware and DiLeo. Putnam: "Do you recall anyone in that meeting ever telling Dr. Murray how he should be treating Michael?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said he didn't have any medical training and wasn't qualified to tell Conrad Murray how to treat Jackson Gongaware said neither Dr. Murray nor Michael talked about the treatment he was receiving. The meeting was about nutrition & vitamin therapy. Gongaware said he had no idea Dr. Murray was giving Michael Propofol and first heard of the anesthetic after Michael died. Gongaware said Dr. Murray was really engaged in the meeting, seemed like a very intelligent guy and wanted to take care of Michael very much. This was the first time Gongaware met with Dr. Murray. He said there were no signs of Michael being poorly treated by the doctor. "Michael was engaged in the meeting, attentive, seemed happy we were having this meeting," Gongaware opined. "He's a doctor, he'd know better than anybody how to treat his patient," Gongaware said about Dr. Murray. As to Gongaware's email saying AEG, not Michael, paid Dr Murray he said he was mistaken. "We wouldn't pay his salary, we'd advance Michael's money". Gongaware said he didn't remember writing/receiving the email, but never denied he did it. As to Michael being habitually late, Gongaware said the singer worked on his own schedule, did things his way Gongaware said his understanding was that Michael hired a trainer of his choice, Louis (Lou) Ferrigno: "I made the deal with him (Ferrigno). He was supposed to be paid a certain amount of money per session" He didn't elaborate on fee, how many times he worked with Michael. Putnam showed an email from Travis Payne, he suggested a massage chair to be put in Michael's dressing room. As to Bugzee's email saying MJ needed cheeseburgers, brats and beers, Gongaware said Bugzee was joking, Bugzee cared very much for Michael. Gongaware testified he didn't recall having any concern about Michael's health/using painkillers as of Monday 6/15/09, 10 days prior to his death Gongaware was asked about several emails that have been shown before, including messages related to MJ missing rehearsal on June 19, 2009. The executive was on the East Coast for a family wedding, but responded to one message questioning why Murray wasn't at rehearsal. Gongaware email: Take the doctor with you. Why wasn't he there last night? He then explained his thinking to the jury. Gongaware: If his patient is having a problem and he's sick, and he's his only patient, it seemed like he should be there Gongaware said on 6/19/09, he was out of town. "This is the day Michael had chills at rehearsal and was apparently sick," Gongaware recalled. "If the meeting was going to be about what happened that night, the doctor should be there," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he believed Michael wanted to go on tour. He said he doesn't remember anyone talking about pulling the plug on the shows. Putnam: "Did anyone tell you at this point that Michael needed a drug addiction specialist?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Did anyone tell you they were concerned with the care Dr. Murray was giving to Michael?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said that on 6/20/09 he did not think Michael's health was deteriorating. With last questions of the day, Putnam asked Gongaware if he was concerned about Jackson's well-being. He said "Yes" Court Transcript submitted by FelicitySmoak_ to MichaelJackson [link] [comments] |
2023.06.03 13:02 -TerrificTerror- Would banning certain content from my home be considered imposing my personal views on my children and in doing so being a bad parent?
I (F30) have multiple children but this "issue" centers around my 9yr old daughter.
She has been watching youtube videos (supervised, obviously) for a little over a year now. This started off with slime and challenge videos and now has evolved in to a more family-vloggers orientated preference.
I wasn't happy about that as I personally feel like people vlogging and very publicly sharing every second of every day of their kids personal lifes are dispicable and taking advantage of their child(ren). Obviously i'm talking about the content that goes way beyond sharing a cute photo or video with friends and family.
Now, despite the fact that I wasn't happy about it I didn't stop her from watching this. It isn't violent or sexual in nature and I figured I could take this opportunity to provide some education towards the repercussions of what you share online and how to responsibly analyse and consume content.
This has gone decently well, obviously she's only 9 so she can't quite grasp everything involved fully yet.
Now, over the last couple of months she has been pretending to be a vlogger, walking around with an old phone, talking to an audience she doesn't have and sharing her day to day life. As this was "pretend" I kept half an eye on it as it was happening but mostly just let her play.
Now, she has learned that one of her classmates (also F9) was allowed an account on tiktok and has been allowed to make content of her own (mostly dance-videos and copying make up tutorials from what i've gathered) and she has decided she also wants to have a tiktok-account.
I said no, explained why and she had an absolute meltdown. In typical preteen fashion she accused me of "not understanding", "ruining her life" and "holding her back because i'm too old to understand that's how things are now." I, again, told her that until she was old enough to fully understand tge possible repercussions of what you put online and grasp the variety of dangers the internet hosts she would not be allowed on any social media.
She stated that "other parents make content of their kids" and that it's obviously fine if other people do so, as those kids are okay and safe so why wouldn't she be.
I always try to have conversations and try to explain my reasoning in stead of being the "because I said so" type of parent and in doing so the discussion escalated to the point where i'm wondering if I, for now at least, should be barring family and childvlogging from my home, until she has the capacity to be more critical and look at this with the appropriate context.
I am also aware that this is my personal opinion and that many people will disagree with me, including my daughter. I encourage them to form their own opinions and obviously we're bound to disagree on some things, and that's okay.
That being said; the internet truly is a dangerous place and I wouldn't allow my child near a drughouse to be able to form her own opinion on drugs, so maybe I should not allow her on the internet in the capacity she wants quite yet and in the process bar or limit the content that encourages to do so.
But on the other other hand, banning something only makes it more attractive.
As you can probably tell I have been debating myself on this for a solid amount of hours by now and I truly do not know how to proceed.
So here I am, wondering how other people/parents view this and how they handle it. I would also like to know if my view on this is truly outdates or if i'm ill informed. What do you guys think?

2023.06.03 12:59 i90approval UK to USA for Training and a Career
Hello,
I have been wanting to become a commercial pilot for a while now and life has got in the way. I am from the UK, but have a green card and am wanting to move to the states to train and work as a pilot.
I have no friends/family in the USA, and am open to moving anywhere. Ideally I would be looking for a school which provides accommodation, or has links to housing to make the move easier.
I know many advise against it, but I am considering ATP due to the short time frame, accommodation options, and other people training with you (would like to make some friends!) It may be more expensive than other places, but it is still significantly cheaper than training here.
Does anyone have any suggestions of places for me to look?

2023.06.03 12:58 Former-Wrap-7273 Is there a problem with me?
All year I've been reminded that I'm replaceable and unwanted.
Before the end of last year, I got betrayed by someone i thought was gonna be my ride or die. He had confidently said he will support me in a school election where we need to have a partner as he knew I could not find anyone. I trusted implicitedly after questioning him to the point of slight irritation. He then ditched me suddenly for a better position close to voting week. He cited a reason being we're both too hard headed because we argued over sending our images as part of introductory messages to the members during the elections. He didnt want to send picutres, but to me its ridiculous cos i have never seen people running for elections tryung to hide their faces. Even then I seeked for a compromise to send a picture of us together instead of individual ones. After the betrayal, he did not even apologise, but tried to explain how its not the rivals fault (because he was friends with the rival and he thought I believed that the rival tried to set me up, a conclusion that I never came to my mind) and made excuses for himself. It felt like he was protecting thebother friend more than me as he clarified that the rival was not involved instead of just apologising. I was mad that he took away my options for partners by being so confident, then taking them away again by selfishly dropping out when I relied on him the most. He received no backlash throughout as all our mutual friends thought I kicked him out instead (making me the villian). He then tried to find a replacemebt, but when I contacted the replacement, he was turned down the offer after being on the fence. Essentially, the replacement was just his escape route. This year, he hangs with new friends instead, only coming to me if he has no one with him, while making no effort to regain my trust.
At the start of this year I held a deputy role for someone in an organisation. I was promised an equal partnership so I placed a lot of faith in him, but I soon realised he tends to tank a lot of the work himself. Initially, he joked that we do not work well together, before fully using it as his reason for leaving me out of meetings, discussions and decision making for the rest of the year. The shift started after I made the mistake of giving my opinion the one time he did not ask for it when he did not ask, in a conversation thread where he asked for my opinions twice directly before. I declined to give my opinions after the event to avoid worsening the situation before we talked things out. However, I've been rejected a few times after initiating. Throughout the rest of the year he kept coming up with reasons why I wasnt adequate e.g. "I feel uncomfortable joking with you", "I feel you're too controlling" etc. I kept stepping back after each feedback e.g. stop making jokes, stop giving my opinions, to avoid detoriating the relationship further. However, his image of me did not change. He moved on to more excuses, inviting his significant other to discuss work stuff instead of me, leaving me out of discussions only to update me after, asking me for any suggestions only to then fiercely defending his ideas (basically asking me for suggestions is just for show). Things come to a boiling point when he threatened to leave after I initiated a talk a third time. His reasoning was because I invited the organisation head as the moderator and he felt he would be interrogated by us. After that, he fully discussed work plans with his friends instead of me, suggesting we split projects to avoid discussing altogether, and finally dropping the bombshell which is that he feels uncomfortable discussing with me and only me while he is fine with everyone else. This impacted my self esteemed a little because it felt like i was the problem, although logically I have been making all concessions to him. This also made me unable to function as the department's second in charge, because all projects go to him as the head and I cant do anything without him delegating things to me via discussions. The wording is another issue as it implies sexual harrassment especially in this social climate.
After fully isolating me, he went on to be praised as the organisation's best member, the team cannot live without him etc. It felt like he sacrificed me to make it look lile he contributed the most. It really stung when he got close to my friends after he threatened me and my friends know about the event too. Remember the first guy? Yup, he is now the closest person to him. Can you believe it?
Towards the end of the year I tried to put our differences aside and help my dept organise a birthday party for him in secret while he wanted me to write thank you cards to the dept. As I needed more time since im focused on organising his birthday party, I asked if there are other dates we can give the farewell cards. He just casually suggested we split our gifts even though we are partners on paper. It felt like a slap to the face, especially after a year of implying he wanted his friends instead of me and constantly keeping me out of the loop for projects. I started to wonder why am I doing his bday party.
How do I move on from such people? Am I the problem here?

2023.06.03 12:57 DawnSongbird Am I overrating Liandry?
I seriously love this item. Whenever I use a different mythic, mainly RoA for sustain or Luden's for burst, I am always disappointed.
While I love damage over time, I think I love Liandry for different reasons as well.
The damage over time frightens your enemies, in my opinion. I played a lot of Lissandra and not building Liandry makes a big difference. Your skills feel like they have no consequences. But when you manage to land your skills with Liandry, not just with Lissandra but with any Champ that can build it, it actually feels like it has consequences. You notice enemies hit stopping their actions/thoughts/plans for a moment. You interrupt and curse them almost. It makes your skills feel so much more impactful and consequential.
Liandry also helps you apply Anti-Heal for much longer which is essential when you face self healing Bruisers like Aatrox or Irelia.
Additionally Liandry works really well when you also build Rylai and Imperial Mandate in my opinion.
So if you build Luden's and Rabadon and Voidstaff, all you do is damage (which is good, don't get me wrong). But with Liandry, Rylai and Mandate, you are
Applying damage over time, briefly stunning/fearing the enemy
Applying Anti-Heal for 7 seconds instead of just 3
Applying a brief slow to further stop your enemie's advances
Applying a mark from Mandate which encourages your teammates to engage which also gives them addtional damage and movement speed when they do!
And to top it off, Liandry is also good against tanks (duh!) which is essential for the current Tank-Meta! I just love this item so damn much!!

2023.06.03 12:57 Fresh_Split_5456 My roommate wants me to agree with them that they are autistic
I got diagnosed recently after a psychologist was determined I needed to be assessed. I ended up receiving a diagnosis for ASD and ADHD which has been helpful in understanding how to work with my brain. I think I mentioned it once to my roommate but I haven’t bothered to talk about it with them.
However ever since my diagnosis I keep getting told stories specifically highlighting sensory issues they have. There was a really weird period for a week when they kept saying they always had to schedule everything and was obsessed with planning everything we did in a day and no spontaneous activites… and then after a week it disappeared. Anytime I say something kind of sarcastic they always say now “I don’t understand if you are being serious or not”.
I think if they want to get an assessment for a diagnosis, then I think that’s great! And I support them! But I’m getting really frustrated that I’m constantly having this in my face, and they look like they are waiting for me to tell them they have autism. I can’t diagnose someone, I don’t want to weigh my opinion on this.

2023.06.03 12:56 bayfix The Myth of Our Time: Beings from Other Planets
As we all know, NASA recently held a press conference. But it's the same thing every year. Headlines write, "Government acknowledges UFOs, but they're just unidentified flying objects," and that's about it. I don't blame anyone, but it's almost certain that these objects are beings from other planets. Some even claim they could be future humans. Yet every year, individuals from supposed government organizations talk and claim to know what we don't, yet they don't present anything groundbreaking.
I've been researching this subject since 2021 and have delved into dozens of witness testimonies, cases, theories, and more. We have countless cases out there, but we lack definitive proof. Everyone claims they've seen something, but they can't offer tangible evidence. In this day and age, we still don't have a significant number of video recordings of UFOs. It's almost like me saying I saw Zeus, but I can't provide any proof. It's almost similar to a myth, isn't it?
All in all, the article I wrote a couple of months ago (I had no intention of releasing it then) reflects my thoughts on the subject after two years of research.
I hope you enjoy reading it!
Here is the link to my article on medium. I'd love to know your opinion on this. Do you think we've made progress or is it the same thing every year? And why do you think there are only a handful of proofs available?
Thank you for your time.

--- Hr3101m973S’s perspective---
---Tuesday, 31st of October, 2682 Terran Calendar---
---Southwestern Scotland---
I ride the speeder at an altitude of 307m over the rural landscape.
I have 158 other bodies making similar deliveries across Britain right now, as well as 29 in Ireland and 11 in Doggerland. Though, none of them have quite as
spectacular a view as this one does so, for the moment, this is the body whose sensory feed I’m paying the most attention to.
I see a large herd of mammoths walking at the edge of the Galloway Forest.
Though it has a better view, the news I’m carrying with
this body is just as grim as all the rest.
In hindsight, it’s probably a good thing that I was such a spendthrift with regard to my fleet of courier bodies… If I hadn’t been, if I’d selected abilities that let them do much more than deliver things, they may well have been requisitioned for military use… which, I
suppose, they were
anyway… but there’s a
big difference between delivering notices on Earth and fighting on some distant planet!
Still, if sacrificing my replaceable bodies would save even a single irreplaceable life, I would definitely have done it.
The city comes into view.
Calling it a ‘
city’ may be a little generous… it only has 2,507,963 inhabitants.
That
may have been a respectable city in the 22nd
Century but, for context, nearby Dumfries has 7,491,509 and Glasgow has 24,339,192!
Stranraer occupies a
rare middleground between the historic hamlets that are allowed to exist in the countryside and the megalopoleis where around 98.32% of people on Earth live.
I land in the northern part of the town and step off my speeder.
I get some raised eyebrows as I walk from the landing pad to the residential home.
I don’t blame them!
Before the War, every single one of my courier bodies had a full suit of elastomer over their entire body, to make them seem more lifelike…
Now, though, that’s considered a luxury and, so, this particular unit is walking around with its metal endoskeleton bare, bar its uniform.
The effect can be a little offputting… though, in
truth, it may also have to do with the
news they’ve inferred me to be delivering to
some unlucky soul.
I cross the wall into the garden and begin walking up the steps, through the mosslawn shrouded by pinus sylvestris trees, to the house on top of the little hillock.
It takes me 12 seconds to reach the door from the gate… I can’t rush, I need to give this girl her due respect.
I rap on the door 3 times and hear the knocks echo through the cavernous hall behind.
A man opens the door.
I begin, speaking in the most popular local dialect of Lallans Scots that I know to be this man’s primary speech register “Greetings, Mr Baird. I don’t know if you remember me but…”
“I
remember you! I’m organic, not
daft! You’ve been here enough
times already…” interrupts the residential care manager, his demeanour gruff and no-nonsense “…
Come in, Hermes… You can wait in the kitchen while I go get her.”
I step into the building, passing below the lowest of 5 balcony walkways into an open space with a skylight ceiling, allowing in the natural light.
I let the man lead the way to a large kitchen.
He pulls out a chair for me.
“Thank you, Sir, but I believe I ought to remain standing to make this delivery.” I respond, politely.
“Suit
yourself…” he shrugs before walking off, presumably to fetch the girl he knows I’m here for.
I wait several minutes before he reappears.
The girl he has in tow is the perfect match of the file photo (though a few years older). She is average height, 178cm, and has an average build. Her skin is pale, her eyes are emerald green and her hair is long, absurdly voluminous, curly and
vividly red.
She looks to be in fine physical health and is making no pretence of illness or injury, though she
is scowling at me.
The grey bearded man shuts the door, leaving me alone with the girl.
“Could you tell me your name, please?” I ask, already knowing.
“Esme Reid.” she answers, truculently.
“And your date of birth, Ms Reid?”
“31st of October, 2664. Come to give me a
birthday present,
have you(?)” she says, folding her arms, pursing her lips and looking away to the kitchen counter by the window.
“Thank you…” I say, reaching into my bag to withdraw a letter and a large holopad with a stylus attached.
I hold the letter out to her and say “This is your conscription notice, Ms Reid. Please sign receipt of it here.” indicating the holo.
Her eyes flick from the paper to the screen before she drily answers “I don’t suppose, if I don’t take that or don’t sign for it, that’d mean I couldn’t be drafted,
would it(?!)”
I shake my head and respond “I’m afraid that no such loophole exists, Ms Reid… If you have a conscientious objection to fighting, you could request a nonmilitary national service. However, you
would be asked to provide some
proof of your conscientiousness and…”
“I’m no bleeding heart…” she says, snatching the letter from my hand, irritably “…I’ll sign for my bloody
death warrant!” scrawling her name on the pad.
Without looking at the pad, I check the signature she provided against the one on file and find it a close enough match to proceed.
“Thank you, Ms Reid. Please report to your local recruitment office in Stranraer within 14 days for your physical and psychological fitness assessments. They’ll then interview you regarding your preferences for training and deployment and they’ll
try to take those into account when assigning them.
“
Great(!) Maybe if I can convince my evaluator that I’m cracked enough in the head, I won’t get sent off to
die like my mam and dad did(!)” she quips, sarcastically.
“I don’t think you’ll have much luck with
that strategy, Ms Reid… Sol’s government have had quite the interest in weeding out malingerers these past few years… I would put the odds of success below 1%.” 0.75619902%, actually, but that’s
too many decimals for most biologicals’ patience(!)
She frowns up at me and demands “I’m being
such a brat about this… Why are you
still being so friendly!?”
I laugh “Ms Reid, though I
strongly encourage you
not to express the same demeanour to your
drill instructors as you are with
me, you are far from the worst person I’ve delivered this news to in even the last half
hour!… Right now, I’ve got a draftee in Leeds who’s explaining a hairbrained scheme involving unethically cloning a replacement to fight in his stead, I’ve got one in Bristol who’s trying to beat up my body but only really succeeding in hurting herself, I’ve got one in Edinburgh that’s run away in an attempt not to be served… by
comparison, a bit of scowling and sarcasm is rather
tame!”
“Huh!… Guess I’m not
quite the bad girl Ms. Larch always
told me I was, am I(!)”
“It seems you shall simply have to work
harder(!) I believe there is a leather jacket emporium in Stranraer that still does business…”
She smiles and laughs for the first time that I’ve seen.
That’s the
real reason I don’t get touchy about the attitudes expressed to me by draftees: It makes my job so much easier when I soften the blow with good manners and good humour.
As unfair as it is that so many choose to shoot the messenger, it’s understandable when you consider the messages I carry.
“Ms Reid…” I start, seriously but softly “…if you
truly do not wish to fight, you know there
are alternatives? You can discuss them with your recruitment officer but…”
“I got
no special skills, Hermes… Nothing I can do that an AI couldn’t do faster and better… The Merchant Navy’s basically as dangerous as the
Navy Navy, just
less armed… the Humanitarian corps has a waiting list so long that the War’d be
over (one way or another)
long before they got to the point of considering
me… I
know where
I’
m going… no use in fighting it…”
“Alright, Ms Reid… I wish you the
best…” I say, turning to leave.
Mr Baird shows me out of the house.
Rather than walking back to the landingpad, to retrieve my bike, I walk the other way.
My bag is still heavy with conscription notices… it only makes sense to deliver all the ones in this town first…
---Oskar’s Perspective---
---Southern Doggerland---
The evening sun plays off of the calm waves of the North Sea.
It should be
raining on a day like this…
This gorgeous weather is slapping me in the face and telling me to be happy, to be content…
I know the weather does not care for the happenings of people… I know that, if it rained everywhere and every day there was a funeral, the whole
world would flood… I know this… and
still… I
hate this contrast between my grim, internal misery and the tranquil sun drenched beach where I stand, this autumn day… There’s
barely even any
snow on the grass…
When this War started, I was fourteen and had two loving parents…
My Father was too old to serve, at 51…
At 37, my mother was
not…
Yet, it’s not my
mother’s funeral I am attending right now. That was two months ago.
No… the strongly built 55 year old man, dressed in a long white robe and clutching a Norse langsverð, despite having been a
fishfarmer and not a warrior, is my father… Lars ‘Walker’ Taylor.
His eyes are closed and he lies within a wooden boat, around 80cm wide and 3m long.
This boat was never meant to touch the water… I bought it from a supplier in Bankland that specialises in funerary boats for Doggerland’s Forn Siðr community.
I already recited a poem… there’s nothing else for me to do until the singer begins.
I’m not listening to the Goði prattle on about Valhalla and Ragnarök… I’m just looking at my father’s face… oscillating between hating him for doing this to me and hating myself for doing this to him.
The sermon concludes and a blonde woman, like everyone else present, dressed in snow white funeral clothes, steps forward.
One of the three men behind her brings his bow to the three strings of his tagelharpa, another raises a flute carved out of a cow’s leg bone to his lips, the last begins banging out a slow beat on his drum.
The band would definitely be larger if so many of the Hof’s musicians hadn’t been called up to serve.
The men begin playing a mournful tune and the woman begins a wailing, melismatic melody, not in English, the first language of most here, not in my father’s native Frisian, not even in New Norse, the liturgical language of his faith…
She sings in a strain of Norwegian that was spoken
centuries ago, when there were barely
any Forn Siðr practitioners living.
mf♫ Eg songane søkte Eg songane sende Då den djupaste brunni Gav meg dråpar så ramme Av Valfaders pant♫mf I have a final part to play in this ritual.
The Goði picks up the torch and lights it against a flaming brazier before beckoning to me.
I step forward from the small crowd.
In contrast to most, whose clothes are pristine white robes and tunics and such, I wear the same simple white suit that I wore two months ago.
I may be a nonbeliever but no one at my father’s Hof challenged the idea that I was the most fitting person to perform this last rite for him.
I take the torch from the man and walk to my father’s side.
I hesitate before I touch it to one of the mounds of high energy, smokeless fuel that surround his body… but only for a moment…
The flame quickly takes and, before the current verse of the song is even finished, the entire boat is engulfed in fire.
I toss the torch in and step back from the conflagration.
Minutes pass as I watch the inferno consume the entire pyre.
I barely notice the music stop.
I barely notice the crowd thinning as people leave.
I just watch as the man’s existence is wiped from the Earth.
“Have you thought about what you’re going to do now, brother?” asks a voice from beside me.
Without looking at the Pagan cleric, I dully answer “I have.”
“And, what is
that… if I may ask?”
“My birthday’s in January… I’ll be drafted… but I don’t have to wait… I’m going to go to the recruitment office and request an early start to my training… by the time it’s done, I’ll be 18 and they’ll be legally able to deploy me.”
“I…
see… that’s certainly…
an option… Have you
thought about…?”
“I haven’t, Tormund. This is what I’m doing.” I state, still looking at the blaze.
“I see… I wish you
well then, Oskar…” Tormund says, sincerely.

2023.06.03 12:55 HumanAdhesiveness912 Chris Pine's character is irritating in Wonder Woman
Does anybody else share the sentiment that Chris Pine's character Steve Trevor the moment they got to the mainland came across as sort of annoying always trying to suggest what course of action should Wonder Woman should pursue everytime like during the alleyway scene the dressing montage scene the office room scene right before WW takes the field of fire during the No Man's Land scene that time when she goes to confront Ludendorff in the ballroom party scene and once again in the scene before she takes on her enemies at the airfield.
Like the writers were not sure what to do with his character and had to give something for him to do so they had him always endlessly chaperoning Wonder Woman advising what is right or wrong always trying to make the decisions for her at all times.
Granted Gal Gadot's character is meant to be a fish out of water who does not yet know the complex workings of the world so Steve is always there to help her out by giving his own ideas but that itself is flawed since at no point she develops her own viewpoint about the war her own perpective about human nature to distinguish between good and evil who is inherently right or wrong and whether that is exemplified by whose side of the equation u are standing.
I wonder if Steve Trevor was a German spy who crash landed in Themyscira in pursuit by the English would she have instinctively sided with the Germans in WWI seeing as he is the first man she has ever interacted with in her whole life.
Also the movie has an abomination of an ending with Wonder Woman instantly falling in love with the first man she has ever met after spending all her life in an all women's island whom she has barely known for even like a week which is only being setup so that she can grieve and feel sorry when he inevitably sacrifices himself at the end of the movie which brings to me another very glaring problem with the movie the ending where after the whole movie being hammered by the idea that it is in human instinct in everyone to fight and go to war suddenly we are introduced to Ares who was pulling the strings from behind like all this time and corrupting and poisoning their minds with no fault of their humans themselves speak about a downer of an ending which retroactively makes the entire movie worse since the film itself does not consistently adhere and believe in its values and ideas as it has been doling out to its viewers since the beginning.
I probably should not look into this film too deeply since it is a very paint by numbers designed by committee studio movie which would fall apart when analysed too closely as would most other superhero movies or most blockbusters in general see Pitch Meetings and the movie only got praise since it was marketed as the first female led superhero movie ever even before Marvel and it did not suck balls in comparison to other DCEU films.
But god the idea of a gender flipped Captain America: The First Avenger where the male and female leads are swapped does not translate itself as seamlessly as previously thought since the entire runtime Steve comes across more as a nuisance and hindrance who blocks Wonder Woman at every possible occasion who has to navigate her own path and listen to her own self and she has to make him step aside everytime it happens maybe the movie was trying to push the idea that Wonder Woman was breaking the gender norms and patriarchal attitudes which were prevalent in 1910s England of that time but it does get more annoying each time Chris Pine's character does it.
It actually got me thinking how would a majority of women feel when the female interest of the male superhero lead in other superhero movies are given no depth and are there to just hang around for the entire movie's runtime with no character arc or purpose except being kidnapped to add to the hero's dilemma or just be there think Blake Lively in Green Lantern but in a sense we as an audience feel that it completes the male superhero character as a person while in a gender flipped scenario from a female perpective it just feels more unnecessary than anything else.

2023.06.03 12:54 Mediocre-Injury-1807 How do I become more curious and have intellectually stimulating thoughts?
I’m 19 and all my interactions with people feel unfulfilling. I usually rely on the other person to bring up interesting topics to discuss, because no matter how hard i try i just cannot think of what to say beyond asking them about their day or simple small talk. I find it difficult to talk about myself and I have been called boring by my friends before.
I feel it much more now with my boyfriend because he is a very curious person and always has so many interesting thoughts and things to say that I would have never been able to think of. I really enjoy listening to him and i do ask questions and engage, but I feel insufficient because I cannot contribute in the same way. I rely on him to start all our conversation. Even if we watch a movie together, he will have interesting thoughts about it, but I struggle to notice things beyond the surface level.
I think this has always been a problem. I remember learning things at school but never having questions for teachers, and struggling to think of what to say to people. The root of this is that I’m not curious enough and I probably don’t do any intellectually stimulating activities besides school work and social media. I feel like I have no original opinions and when I try to contribute towards conversation with my boyfriend, it always feels like I’m repeating other people’s ideas. I cannot usually answer deeper follow up questions he has because I never thought to find out more in the first place. My head is usually empty and I feel like I barely think. I don’t have shower thoughts, or deep thoughts in general, beyond the basic noting my environment.
How do I train myself to be more curious and think deeper thoughts?

2023.06.03 12:50 Efficient-Comb-8198 What these dreams trying to tell me?
I had a dream of unknown city and residents to me, in this city there were two sides, one for the locals and the other for scientists of whom all are archeologists (read yesterday that Carl jung wanted to study archaeology). The dream mostly took place in the archeologist’s zone. It seems like there was an outbreak of some predatory creatures far a way and the evacuation alert siren went on and there were the avocation organizers knocking doors of the houses of the archeologists telling them to go hide in the bio-lab which was underground. I noticed a full body fossil behind one of the archeologists who opened his door. They headed to the bio-lab and one of the archeologists who was Asian wanted to take his mummy fossil to the bio-lab but he was rejected like so many other archeologists who were forced to leave their fossils next the bio-lab door but this Asian guy had a brother who was from the organizer and he let him take his fossil. Down the bio-lab the archeologists were in teams (female and male each team). A female (No 1) from one team decided to detach her team mate and go out saying it’s not dangerous (she was kinda egotistical) and some other female (No 2) was mocking her male friend in an aggressive manner saying he’s not reliable nor capable and she went out too from the back door same as the previous girl. Later Female No 1 was killed by these creatures and was placed on the door with some other dead guy and later female No 2 was coming back from the local zone to the bio-lab and was about to open the door which behind was placed the two dead people ( they weren’t place by the creatures but rather the were injured and tried to run away but died when they reached the door)
The dream have little personal associations to me other than these:
- Archeologists: Carl jung wanted to study archaeology
- The creatures outbreak reminds me a movie called The Mist, I saw the movie when I was 15 y/o
- Ik no one in the dream
- I was in the dream as a watcher not as a participant as if I’m watching a movie.
- Note: am a 25 y/o female
I woke up at 2:00 am write the dream and finished writing at 2:22 I did some yoga bc the dream kinda troubled me and went to sleep again and had another dream:
A women (this women represents guidance figure in my real life) came our house (it was 50% different from my real house) and cleaned my father and mother room from these shadowy entities, I was suspecting her way would work and she asked me if my ears are ringing, I said no. Then the entities left the house and I heard their loud screams, we went to the back yard to see that they turned into dark gooey animals ( not a specific animal but they seem hybrid from different species only one was recognizable black goat ) all were running away in the back yard, they weren’t harmful but rather weak and scared. Then the women asked me if my ears are ringing I said yes and she said it’s bc now you are convinced the cleaning worked. We went inside (me, the women, my sister and mother) they sat in a room while I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and there I started coughing wanting to vomit but my mom was discussed by the sound I was making and she was shouting, I couldn’t vomit and I woke up.
I’d be grateful for some for your insight and opinion, feel free to suggest whatever bc previous suggestions were really helpful and eye opening.

2023.06.03 12:48 UrmCookiez Clothes/Item/Gear idea [Devs]
I want to propose an idea for a next class of clothing/gear items:
- Higher than Ultimate
- Extremely difficult to get
- Insanely beneficial to the player
So far, we have Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Ultimate quality of gear; with a 2% chance of getting ultimate gear per event and only in event boxes. I would assume most of us like the challenge and award which we have already. But, what if I was to tell you there’s only 1 complete outfit out there that would demolish every other competitor?
As a 0.5% chance of getting this item from the event box, it would include All Workers bonuses of some of the most sought-out advantages: walking speed, chance to prepare food instantly, and change to make perfect food.
With four events, you would get 4 items: head, body, hand, and pet. Each event is specific to each item. For an example: the head item would be found only in Moon Events, Body item only in Mine Event, hand item only in Seaport Event, and pet only found in Middle Ages Event. Of course, these arrangements would be made by the developers.
With a 0.5% chance of obtaining the full outfit, you would be the best cook who has ever lived. You’d show off your Flawless attire to the world, using Ultimate items and Legendary knowledge to forge your way to the top -even obtaining the blueprint alone isn’t enough to find yourself lucky.
With a head piece that bonuses all workers with 300% walking speed and 50% chance to prepare food instantly, a jacket or even a romper that awards all workers with 50% chance to prepare food instantly, 50% chance to prepare perfect food, and walk 100% faster, and a special tool in hand that give all workers a 50% to prepare perfect food and [food is made 200% faster (to fill space)]; you would become a Flawless master chef who would make Gordon Ramsey himself start self-criticizing about the art of cuisine. Each base Profit % would be 500%
But what about the pet I’ve mentioned? Well, not only would this loyal beast contribute to a grand Profit % like it’s item-counterparts or collect tips every 5 seconds, but it would even multiply the profit from tips 3-4 times its original amount! What could this pet be? Well, maybe it’s a dragon- or maybe it’s Tinker Bell.
TL;DR
- New clothes/item/gear proposal.
- 4 new items total. Each event holds only 1 item type. 0.5% chance of getting item from event box. Ex: Moon Event box only awards 0.5% chance for head item; Seaport Event box only awards 0.5% chance for hand item.
- Blueprint requires specific Ultimate item + Legendary item(s), and maybe Epic (devs decision).
- Total bonuses from the COMPLETE outfit: 400% walk speed, 100% instant food, 100% perfect food, 200% faster food. All bonuses to All Workers.
- Pet: collects tips /5 sec + multiplies tip amount.
- Base 500% Profit.
DISCLAIMER:
This could be an end game idea. So, be aware if you support the game and the developers. There may be no way to continue adding to this game if something like this would exist.
I personally enjoy the game. I enjoy the challenge/award system the devs provide us with. I know having something like this would be majorly satisfying, but after a while the award feeling could disappear.
This is just my idea as a creative person! Criticize or give your opinions! Please be respectful

2023.06.03 12:46 throwra_cowboyman My(45M) GFs(42F) daughter (22F) doesn't help around the house
Been living with my gf for nigh on 3 years. She has a 22yr and a 8yr old. 22yr old brings the little one to school ~3 times a week (on the way to her own school) because their mom works early morning shifts. I offered to in the past, but they prefer this arrangement.
She doesn't pay for anything house-related, no rent, utilities, food (although she occasionally buys and cooks herself food if she wants her own thing), etc. She doesn't do grocery shopping, we do that every week (big loads.) She'll happily use the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher, eat what we cook (but not wash any of those dishes, only when she makes herself something.) She has a part-time job and uses that money for the occasional trip with a friend, most of her own clothes buying and such stuff.
My opinion, which I voice every so often, is that she's welcome to stay here, but she could help out around the house. She's not a kid anymore, she's an adult now and she's capable of doing an occasional vacuum, do the extra dish here or there.
Personally, I think kids can start helping out a little sooner than that(12?14?), so they learn how to contribute, but that's neither here nor there.
Am I crazy?

Why does my drinking Bud Light offend you?

News item: Anthony Bass, a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, shared a video Monday via Instagram endorsing an anti-LGBTQ boycott of brands such as Target and Bud Light.
"Here's the reason biblically why I believe Christians have gotta be boycotting Target, Bud Light, and any other corporation that's pushing the things they're pushing,” Bass said. “I think a lot of people make this into a political issue, or they say, 'Oh, what's the big deal?’
“This is evil, this is demonic, we won't stand for it, we're not going to go to the stores anymore and we're not going to give you our money.”
It would be impolite to wish that Mr. Bass, who throws a ball for a living, blows out his elbow. Perhaps then he could simply blow it out his tailpipe.
Because I’ve grown tired of sanctimonious and hypocritical moral outrage over what Target and Bud Light are “pushing,” while it’s permissible that Bass and his ilk get to “push” their beliefs on the rest of us.
Example: In the last two months or so, I’ve been questioned a half dozen times in public as to why I’m drinking Bud Light. Seems people like Bass have objected to Anheuser Busch’s marketing partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Their boycott of Bud Light has led to a decrease in sales both locally and nationally. (Local bar and restaurant owners say Bud Light sales are down almost 30 percent.)
It is their right, of course, to boycott the product. I’m just curious as to why what I’m drinking is their business. I drink Bud Light because I like it. And I’m still drinking Bud Light because I will not marginalize people based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. I’m respectful enough to support someone else’s desire to evolve into another gender. And I’m not stupid enough to believe that my decision to drink Bud Light changes who I am or what I stand for in any possible way.
But I wonder why it’s so important for people — and the questions to me haven’t all come from men — to announce their disdain for a bottle of beer, tacitly implying their sexuality is “normal.” Remember this one and write it down: If you are truly comfortable with who you are, you needn’t announce anything to anyone.
And yet to further illustrate how screwed up this country really is, there’s this: Anheuser-Busch hasn’t merely been accused of alienating its traditional customer base with the partnership, but some LGBTQ+ campaigners have also criticized the company for not defending its ties with Mulvaney.
Amid all the finger-pointing and fear-fanning, the truth hides in the corner, too scared to emerge. The truth is that we are supposed to think critically, weigh evidence from both sides and then make up our own minds. Instead, we’ve become a country hell bent on legislating whatever cause we think is right and just, while burying the other side from all consideration.
It’s political tribalism. All or nothing. One side or the other. If you’re not in agreement with every morsel of the transgender movement, you are a snarling, hating, infidel. If you’re not in total agreement with Anthony Bass and his beliefs, you’re going to wither in hell.
But what if — and hold on to your ascots here — two conflicting positions can still be true? Example: What if I support Bud Light’s decision to use a transgender influencer, but also believe that transgender high school athletes belong in their own division?
I disagree with the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference’s policy complying with a state law that requires all high school students be treated according to their gender identity. We should consider a sports-centric law that acknowledges sports' unique challenges and accommodates the physical component for success that exists virtually nowhere else in society.
Sex discrimination in education, health care, housing and financial credit have no place in this country. But we must — must — realize and accept that sports require a physical component to succeed that calls for different guidelines.
Put it this way: Applying to a school or for health care, housing or financial credit requires no physical component to succeed. Sports require speed, strength and agility and do not fit under the same umbrella. And yet sports are routinely shoved into the same arguments about unfair treatment. Injustices get piled on for rhetorical usefulness, even though they're not applicable.
The male born composition has inherent physical advantages, rare exceptions noted. But in the aggregate, there are physiologic differences between biological males and females. I don’t believe writing that makes me transphobic. We should respect a person’s pronoun of choice. But that doesn't mean we have to blindly agree with claims that are not supported by science.
Yet that appears to be the new end game in this country. Blind agreement. Their side or yours. And here I sit, sipping my Bud Light, trying to figure out why so many of us act like the last three letters of Anthony Bass’ last name.

This article pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about the situation. Bud Light basically sent someone a can with her image celebrating a milestone. The fact it turned the beer into enemy number one doesn’t surprise me considering the vitriol that has become commonplace in our country. I have had plenty of private messages regarding a video I posted supporting a beer, and more importantly a human being. Most have been vehemently against my support of both and relish the chance to send me a screen shot of Bud Lights stock on a daily basis with a “Go woke, Go broke” ending. I believe much of the vitriol comes from news and talk radio which is why Spotify now fills my vehicle with music instead of talk. I ask everyone to limit their news intake to 30 minutes per day regardless of your party affiliation to center your life. Sometimes my radio will land on a “news station”, and I can feel my blood pressure rise as the most divisive topic of the day is being discussed with a majority of the facts not being considered. I am not recommending folks to ignore what’s happening in our world, but would point out that our country has survived many decades without the need for “up to the second” news reports. Most of the things we worry about will never happen and it seems our country is living in a constant state of fear which is certainly to blame for the vitriol. There will never be a point where everyone in the country will collectively say we are all happy with everything, but I still have a deep believe that with constructive conversations and true empathy we can get us close. When I get my boat in the water I would love to have an ice cold Bud Light while listening to my relaxing boat playlist, and of course talking with my favorite sports writer. That’s an invitation Mike. Great article.

“Bud Light sales are down between 26% and 35% nationwide additionally Budweiser and other AB brands (Michelob Ultra, Busch Light and Natural Light to name a few) have also taken a hit of around 11%.”
All the more reason to explain what set this off. Completely unhinged.
“My take, buy Coors stock now”
And that statement reinforces my point since Coors has been a decades long supporter of LGBT rights probably the biggest supporter (it all began with a workegay alliance boycott ironically… or not)
“Coors Light has been a sponsor of The Center and Denver PrideFest for decades,” says Rex Fuller, CEO of The Center on Colfax. “The work we have been able to do at The Center over the last four decades would not be possible without this support and we are grateful for it.”
Beyond supporting Denver PrideFest, Molson Coors has a distinguished history of supporting LGBTQ communities across the country, with significant support for organizations such as Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Matthew Shepard Foundation, National Amateur Gay Athletics Association of America, National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, LGBT Victory Institute, Out & Equal, and One Colorado.
In addition to these partners, Molson Coors works with local LGBTQ organizations in key communities through its Tap Into Change program. Annually, the summer program donates more than $100,000 to these organizations with a consistent growth in impact each year. Events take place in each city to help raise additional funds, awareness, and support for the missions of these local organizations. Over the past 10 years, Tap Into Change has raised nearly $600,000 for local LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS nonprofits.

This is even though like 2006, 2010 and 2014 they had to go through boycotts for this. And they did shrink back in response, but also came right back and didn’t move backwards for long.
And what will I do?
Continue drinking Corona because I drink what I drink.
It’s damn near impossible to do a successful boycott long term. The web of corporate connections means when you think you’re hurting one, it’s actually benefitting another one connected to it.
The beverage brand that owns Budweiser, Corona, and Stella Artois, is suing US beer-maker Constellation Brands for using the Corona brand name in a hard seltzer, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.
Beverage giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) acquired Corona’s parent company, Grupo Modelo, in 2013, but US antitrust regulators required it to sell the company’s US-based business to Constellation. AB InBev retained rights to the products in other markets, and the deal gave Constellation the rights to produce Corona and other Modelo brands in the US.

Bud Light sales are down between 26% and 35% nationwide additionally Budweiser and other AB brands (Michelob Ultra, Busch Light and Natural Light to name a few) have also taken a hit of around 11%. Bud Light has been the best selling beer in the USA for over 20 years and the normal volume of sales is 27 million barrels a year or 1134 million gallons. A 30% drop equals a loss of 340 million gallons a year. My take, buy Coors stock now

I don’t ever want to hear about people calling “the libs” snowflakes or use their center liberal stances as a weakness. These champions of “conservatives” are gullible whiny babies.
I watched in real time a bunch of idiots blow something up out of nothing and then saw them flocking to the internet people with their influencer pages and podcasts and publications where immediately they were being hawked “anti-woke” beer and all these other wares, often made by the same places they are boycotting for double the price.
There is a whole market opening up to people that will only get their businesses off the ground (temporarily for a quick cash grab) by using these outrage tactics and capitalizing (literally) on impaired brains that as Mr. DiMauro correctly observed “Blind agreement. Their side or yours”

For me… Bud Light as a “beer” sucks. I would rather support local breweries that provide far better beers. As far as this column… as far as AB selecting this influencer in their campaign I have no opinion on it or that person. Up to each to decide for themselves.
Regarding this column actually Mike what you are writing is basically the same as the boycott and the changes in attitudes (political divide) of the country. Often used by politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle screaming to be open, defending one´s right to choose, freedom of speech etc.. and this is the most important part..”unless it does not validate their opinion or view”. This is exactly what you are writing. So if someone elects to boycott something and we know the WOKE police and Leftists enjoy not only condemning opposing viewpoints to the point of boycotting, attacking employers for the “views” of their employees etc… and demanding they be removed from the position their are in. So if someone boycotts something let them… I would ask you… why does it offend you that others are using their constitutional right by boycotting (freedom of speech). I always respect other´s opinions and even when we do not agree. Sadly we live in a world where people are afraid to speak up due to the potential ramifications. None of us will always agree and I know the powers to be are trying to “force” us to all be uniform in our opinions which is sad. And btw Bud Light is terrible anyway… How about you focus on sports.

2023.06.03 12:43 tryingtobeastoic Should I trust my own thoughts when studying philosophy?
I sometimes find myself disagreeing with SEP or other seasoned philosophers. However, I am scared to trust my own thoughts lest my ideas are erroneous. I do not know whether to back myself and to have confidence in my ideas or to just keep trying to understand what other philosophers are saying more deeply until my ideas align with theirs.
Let me give an example. I was reading about Pascal's Wager today. In point 5 (The table should have more columns: the many Gods objection) of 5.1, I disagree with Schlesinger and Askell:
In response, some authors argue that in such a competition among various possible deities for one’s belief, some are more probable than others. Although there may be ties among the expected utilities—all infinite—for believing in various ones among them, their respective probabilities can be used as tie-breakers. Schlesinger (1994, 90) offers this principle: “In cases where the mathematical expectations are infinite, the criterion for choosing the outcome to bet on is its probability”.
So, the expected utility for both Islam and Christianity is the same: infinite. So, they are tied. Schlesinger and Askell suggest that we need to use their respective probabilities of being true as a criterion to break the tie. However, I disagree. We have already accounted for the respective probabilities when we calculated the value for the expected utility. The value we got for Islam was infinite and the value we got for Christianity was infinite too. No infinite is less than the other. Bringing in probability into the discussion again is completely extraneous, in my opinion.
I don't think this tie is breakable. I think that this is an absolute tie.
This is just one example.
So, how would you advise me to approach studying philosophy considering my situation?
PS: Pascal's Wager is not the main issue here. I mentioned it just as an example. My main question is whether I should trust my ideas or not when studying philosophy in general.
